Artículos recientes encontrados en Brasil critican ejemplos tradicionales utilizados en manuales de derecho penal, especialmente la Tabla de Carnéades, con la excusa de que son demasiado abstractos y aumentan la distancia entre enseñanza y práctica. Sin embargo, las opciones presentadas, como el recurso a la literatura y a la jurisprudencia, no siempre brindan resultados equiparables o satisfactorios. Por los análisis de los argumentos presentados, este artículo concluye que esa interpretación no avanza, ya que no considera que el recurso a experimentos mentales puede ser utilizado no solamente para fines didácticos, sino también para exponer, defender y refutar teorías.

A jurisprudência recente do Supremo Tribunal Federal estabeleceu que o terceiro delatado não tem legitimidade e interesse para impugnar o acordo de colaboração premiada. O objetivo deste artigo é examinar os argumentos utilizados pelo tribunal para tanto. De início, apresenta-se o histórico do tema na jurisprudência da Corte e, em seguida, são tecidas considerações sobre a natureza jurídica da colaboração premiada, com foco em sua caracterização como negócio jurídico. Passa-se, então, à análise dos argumentos utilizados pelo Supremo Tribunal Federal, que dizem respeito à interpretação do acordo de colaboração premiada sob a ótica da teoria civilista dos contratos e à inexistência de prejuízo ao delatado pela celebração do acordo em si. Aponta-se a impropriedade da leitura civilista da colaboração premiada, bem como que, ainda que ela fosse correta, o recurso ao caráter de negócio jurídico personalíssimo e ao princípio res inter alios acta não acarretariam a impossibilidade de o terceiro prejudicado impugnar o acordo. Ademais, sustenta-se que o delatado é afetado pelo acordo de colaboração premiada e que tem interesse e legitimidade para impugná-lo em caso de invalidade, em razão do efeito das invalidades do negócio jurídico sobre a prova dele derivada. Por fim, são apresentadas reflexões preliminares para uma concepção publicista do negócio jurídico, inspiradas na doutrina dos contratos do Direito Administrativo.

Resumo Recorrendo a uma variedade de escritos sobre experiência, linguagem, narração e processos de subjetivação, especialmente de Walter Benjamin, Michel Foucault e Giorgio Agamben, argumento neste artigo que, entre agricultores ecológicos do oeste de Santa Catarina, Brasil, o passado é constantemente acionado nas narrativas dos atores e o ato de visualizar um futuro desejado acontece por meio das experiências vividas, particularmente por momentos de introspecção e colaboração. Fundamentado em pesquisa de campo de caráter etnográfico, analiso como a relação passado-futuro na agroecologia problematiza os modelos de desenvolvimento rural, integrando e entrelaçando as experiências pessoais compartilhadas com narrativas e práticas, pois envolve memórias de sofrimento, exploração, desejos não realizados e, simultaneamente, trabalho em grupo com construção coletiva de ideais. Esse contexto empírico é particularmente propício para a reflexão sobre desenvolvimento, uma vez que este é entendido como um processo no qual aparecem tanto a superação das formas de exploração como a autoconstrução subjetiva e colaborativa. Abstract Drawing on a range of works about experience, language, storytelling and subjectivation processes, especially of Walter Benjamin, Michel Foucault and Giorgio Agamben, I argue in this article that among ecological smallholder farmers from West of Santa Catarina, Brazil, the past is constantly triggered in the actors’ narratives and the act of visualizing a desired future happens through their lived experiences, particularly in moments of introspection and collaboration. Based on fieldwork data from ethnographic research, I analyze how the past-future relationship in agroecology challenges rural development models, integrating and interweaving shared experiences with narrative and practices, as it involves memories of suffering, exploitation, unfulfilled desires and, simultaneously, group work with collective construction of ideals. This empirical context is particularly useful for thinking about development, since it is understood as a process in which both the overcoming of forms of exploitation and subjective and collaborative self-construction emerge.

The use of green manures increases the efficiency of soil cover, contributing to better infiltration, moisture, soil microorganisms, and nutrient cycling. The objective of this work was to evaluate the amounts of nutrients released by seven species of green manures in four collection times. The experimental design adopted was the DIC, with 4 evaluation times and three replications. The experiment was carried out at UEMS/Aquidauana, where 7 species of green manures were sown in 5x10 m plots, manually, with the aid of a hoe. Crop management was carried out when necessary, without the application of agrochemicals, only with manual weeding. After flowering, the plants were harvested, and left under the constituent plot. Four samples were weighed per plot of each species, containing 90 g of each material, placed in literbags, produced with 70% shade, with. The samples remained in their respective plots, being collected every 30 days, in 4 evaluation periods. The samples were taken to the laboratory, washed in running water to remove excess soil, dried in an oven at 65ºC until constant weight. Subsequently, the samples were ground in crucibles, and laboratory analyzes were carried out to determine nitrogen (N). Black velvet bean, velvet bean and pork beans had the highest means of N in seasons 0 and 30. For dry mass, velvet bean, velvet bean, pigeon pea, pigeon pea, broad bean and Crotalaria spectabilis had the highest means in the first cutting season. El uso de abonos verdes aumenta la eficiencia de la cobertura del suelo, contribuyendo a una mejor infiltración, humedad, microorganismos del suelo y ciclo de nutrientes. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar las cantidades de nutrientes liberadas por siete especies de abonos verdes en cuatro tiempos de recolección. El diseño experimental adoptado fue el DIC, con 4 tiempos de evaluación y tres repeticiones. El experimento se realizó en la UEMS/Aquidauana, donde se sembraron 7 especies de abonos verdes en parcelas de 5x10 m, manualmente, con la ayuda de una azada. El manejo del cultivo se realizó cuando fue necesario, sin aplicación de agroquímicos, solo con deshierbe manual. Después de la floración, las plantas se recolectaron y se dejaron debajo de la parcela constituyente. Se pesaron cuatro muestras por parcela de cada especie, conteniendo 90 g de cada material, colocadas en bolsas de litro, producidas con 70% de sombra, con. Las muestras permanecieron en sus respectivas parcelas, siendo colectadas cada 30 días, en 4 periodos de evaluación. Las muestras se llevaron al laboratorio, se lavaron con agua corriente para eliminar el exceso de tierra, se secaron en estufa a 65ºC hasta peso constante. Posteriormente, las muestras se molieron en crisoles y se realizaron análisis de laboratorio para determinar nitrógeno (N). El frijol terciopelo negro, el frijol terciopelo y el frijol cerdo presentaron las medias más altas de N en las campañas 0 y 30. Para la masa seca, el frijol terciopelo, el frijol terciopelo, el gandul, la arveja, la haba y la Crotalaria spectabilis presentaron las medias más altas en el primer corte temporada. A utilização de adubos verdes aumenta a eficiência da cobertura do solo, contribuindo para uma melhor infiltração, umidade, microrganismos do solo, e a ciclagem de nutrientes. As amostras foram levadas para laboratório, lavadas em água corrente para retirada do excesso de solo, secas a estufa em 65ºC até obter peso constante. Posteriormente as amostras foram moídas em cadinhos, e realizadas análises laboratoriais para determinação de nitrogênio (N). Mucuna preta, mucuna cinza e feijão de porco obtiveram maiores médias de N das épocas 0 e 30. Para a massa seca, mucuna preta, mucuna cinza, guandu anão, guandu fava larga e Crotalaria spectabilis obtiveram maiores médias na primeira época de corte.

A Apple construiu uma marca que provoca não apenas a admiração de seus usuários, mas a veneração. Através do emprego consciente de imagens sagradas e narrativas mitológicas, a empresa e seus entusiastas manipulam símbolos para fortalecer os vínculos com os usuários até torná-los verdadeiros fiéis em um culto à marca. O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar uma trilogia de livros do consultor Carmine Gallo, especializado no modelo Apple de comunicação empresarial, para investigar a influência deste discurso mitológico no conteúdo das obras. Para isso, empregaremos o método da revisão bibliográfica e da pesquisa documental. Observamos que, ao lado da linguagem técnica, os livros analisados reproduzem e amplificam a mística da Apple, reforçando também o culto dos consumidores à marca.

Objetivo: Identificar os verdadeiros efeitos da restrição calórica (RC) sobre o consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO2máx) relativo e absoluto e força muscular. Costuma-se dizer que doutrinas e conceitos nacionais não devem ser importados indiscriminadamente para o Direito Penal Internacional. Tal máxima está certamente correta, contudo, quais são exatamente as diferenças entre o Direito Penal nacional e o internacional, e.g., no âmbito da parte geral no que diz respeito aos elementos subjetivos do crime? Que particularidades existem entre a imputação da macrodelinquência em comparação com os crimes “comuns”? Este ensaio identifica três problemas clássicos relativos aos elementos subjetivos do crime em que algumas dessas particularidades existem. A investigação, no entanto, não exclui a possibilidade de que o Direito Penal Internacional possa aprender com as doutrinas do Direito Penal desenvolvidas nacionalmente.

As divergentes concepcoes da teoria da cegueira deliberada: Uma analise dos precedentes dos Tribunais Superiores e Tribunais Regionais Federais (2012-2019)

Objetivou-se por meio deste trabalho relatar uma atividade desenvolvida com os cães da Associação de Resgate e Cuidado Animal - ARCA em Janaúba-MG por alunos do curso de Zootecnia da Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros (UNIMONTES) , visando proporcionar melhor bem-estar dos animais resgatados. A Associação de Resgate e Cuidado Animal de Janaúba foi criada no ano de 2011 por um pequeno grupo de protetores com o intuito de desenvolver ações em defesa dos animais. Por meio da intermediação de uma das docentes da UNIMONTES, que também é protetora da ARCA, foi proposto aos alunos uma atividade dentro da disciplina de Criação de Cães e Gatos, do curso de Zootecnia, objetivando a participação dos discentes em caminhadas semanais com os cães da presente Associação. As caminhadas foram realizadas entre os anos de 2016 e 2017, contando com a participação de 27 alunos. As atividades de convivência desenvolvidas entre os acadêmicos e os animais resgatados da ARCA proporcionaram melhoria do bem-estar físico e emocional dos cães do abrigo, bem como despertou atitudes de compaixão, respeito, senso de responsabilidade e dever nos alunos para com os animais abandonados.

The objective of this work was to report an activity developed with the dogs of the Association of Animal Rescue and Care - ARCA in Janaúba-MG by students of the Animal Science course at the State University of Montes Claros (UNIMONTES), aiming to provide better of the rescued animals. The Janaúba Animal Rescue and Care Association was created in 2011 by a small group of protectors in order to develop actions in defense of animals. Through the intermediation of one of the teachers at UNIMONTES, who is also the protector of ARCA, an activity was proposed to students within the discipline of Breeding Dogs and Cats, of the Zootechnics course, aiming at the participation of students in weekly walks with dogs of this Association. The walks were carried out between the years 2016 and 2017, with the participation of 27 students. The coexistence activities developed between the academics and the animals rescued from ARCA provided an improvement in the physical and emotional well-being of the shelter dogs, as well as aroused attitudes of compassion, respect, sense of responsibility and duty in the students towards the abandoned animals.

Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar as noções de comunicação presentes no Modelo dos Campos Semânticos (MCS) de Lins (1999, 2012) e as noções de interação e interação produtiva, tomadas pelos autores deste texto como centrais para este trabalho. São apresentadas, também, as noções estruturantes da Teoria da Atividade de Leontiev (1978) – necessidade, objeto e motivo – quepossibilitam compreender as ações de cursistas enquanto realizam suas atividades em um curso de formação de professores. Por meio da discussão de exemplos construídos pelos autores ou retirados de um curso de formação, faz-se uma análise de interações frente a frente e de fóruns de discussõesutilizando-se das noções do MCS de Lins (1999) e de atividade de Leontiev (1978). Por fim, centrando o foco em interações entre professores em fóruns de discussão, conceitua-se interação colaborativa.

This article aimed to propose and test a model to assess the potential of sustainability reporting (SR) standards as facilitators for knowledge and technology transfer (KTT), the Sustainable Reporting Knowledge and Technology Transfer (SURKaTT) Model. The proposed model can be used mainly by researchers and public organizations that intend to or are currently conducting SR initiatives. It can be used to assess and compare SR standards, being a facilitator to KTT processes. GRI, a worldwide well‐known SR standard was assessed using the SURKaTT Model, and results show that GRI performed at only 58.8% of its potential to facilitate KTT processes. This pioneering approach can encourage researchers onto developing further criteria to assess the possibilities of KTT in SR, and it is a kick‐off start for SR to be considered a both purposeful and serendipitous source of KTT initiatives.

Recent major upstream raised tailings dam failures have led to a reopening of the discussion of the validity of some of the existing routine practices within the profession. Despite its many shortcomings, deterministic slope stability limit equilibrium analysis is and will continue to be, at least for some time ahead, an important tool for tailings dams’ safety assessment. Within this context, this paper presents a contribution to the postulation of minimum factors of safety required for tailings dams’ slope stability analysis. A recent review and discussion of limit equilibrium analysis and the guidelines of international standards and current trends, with focus on tailings dams, are presented. Based on this review, and the authors’ academic and professional experience, minimum required factors of safety recommendations are proposed. The framework of the recommendations strives to conciliate, in a simple manner, the deterministic minimum required factors of safety with concepts of consequence, uncertainties, risk and characteristics of loose tailings behaviour as a material.

Este artigo utiliza como referencial teórico o Modelo dos Campos Semânticos (MCS) e tem como objetivos apresentar e discutir diferentes significados para a multiplicação, fazer uma distinção entre a multiplicação na rua e na escola e trazer aspectos didáticos que podem ser levados em consideração quando professores forem se preparar para abordar multiplicação em sala de aula. Para isso, foram utilizados os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais, a Base Nacional Comum Curricular, teorizações realizadas com base no MCS e exemplos de diferentes situações envolvendo multiplicação. A partir das considerações apresentadas e desenvolvidas neste artigo, espera-se contribuir para uma ampliação nos modos de produção de significados de professores quando estes se depararem com a docência do tema multiplicação na Educação Básica.

El presente artículo propone como objetivo examinar el desarrollo actual de las Indicaciones Geográficas (IGs), junto a esquemas similares, en Centroamérica. Con ello, se estudia el panorama de estas IGs y otras protecciones de cuño territorial en el istmo, prestando atención a una dicotomía que justifica su creación: la maximización de ganancias económicas y la creación de iniciativas que potencien el desarrollo local-rural. Utilizando la base de datos de la Organización para una Red Internacional de Indicaciones Geográficas (oriGIn), se identifica desde el año 2010 una explosión de bienes de calidad con IG, entre los que destacan los productos alimenticios, especialmente el café y bebidas espirituosas. Al respecto, se distinguen algunos riesgos asociados a las IGs en Centroamérica: inclusión limitada de actores, costos asociados, productos con poco arraigo campesino o concentración en una cantidad baja de bienes. Asimismo, se evidencia que los países centroamericanos han adoptado recientemente la estrategia de utilizar los tratados comerciales, ya sea regionales o bilaterales, para proteger sus Indicaciones Geográficas en mercados internacionales.

The underlying challenges of knowledge management and technology transfer and their respective contributions to the development of society are well-known and widely discussed issues in business management. This paper aims to (1) build on the state-of-the art literature on knowledge management and technology transfer, (2) to identify the most relevant, recent studies, and main researchers working on the field worldwide, and (3) to unveil topics of recent development in the field, as well as overlap the themes. To this end, Web of Science, ScienceDirect and Scopus databases were screened for studies that explored the relevance of knowledge management and technology transfer. This research focused on the most recent studies comprising the periods of 2013–2018, while employing Metodi Ordinatio as a quality ranking method, producing thus 50 studies submitted for further analysis and appraisal. The study sought to analyze the co-occurrence of keywords on the theme, the number of citations, number of publications per country, year and journal, and the overlap between areas. This paper also enabled an analysis of the steps required for knowledge management and their relationship to technology transfer. The results showed that most studies focused on the private sector and on technology transfer for attaining innovation, customer orientation and acquiring technological abilities. The university–industry relationship was also observed, in which the focus is on universities creating and transferring knowledge in order to foment the economic and technological power of industries. The findings can assist public and private companies, non-governmental organizations, university and industry applications in terms of knowledge management and technology transfer.

O campo de aplicações financeiras tem se tornado cada vez mais complexo e desafiador, com comportamentos não lineares e incertos que mudam com o tempo. Diante disso, as técnicas de inteligência computacional, incluindo redes neurais, algoritmos genéticos e lógica difusa, têm ganhado destaque como soluções promissoras para a automatização de decisões no mercado financeiro. Este artigo tem como objetivo explorar os estudos recentes que abordam o uso dessas técnicas e discutir suas aplicações, vantagens e limitações. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura narrativa, de caráter descritivo exploratório. A coleta de literatura foi realizada nas bases de dados Science Direct e Scopus, utilizando palavras-chave relacionadas ao tema. Conclui-se que as técnicas de inteligência computacional têm se mostrado capazes de resolver problemas altamente não lineares e variantes no tempo, tornando-se assim uma abordagem eficaz para automatizar operações no mercado financeiro.

Background: ChatGPT has been largely discussed since it was launched in November 2022. Problem statement: the main approaches of ChatGPT in the recent and scarce literature are more focused on the impacts for general use, applied sciences and educational systems, which evidences a relevant gap for the management field, especially related to the supply chain area. Objectives: as a novel and initial contribution, this article aims to provide a viewpoint with the main applications and other issues regarding ChatGPT in supply chains, based on the initial discovered evidence. Methods: This viewpoint article is grounded on the few articles available in specialized magazines, blogs and company websites that approach potential applications and other issues of ChatGPT in supply chains, as a systematic literature review was not possible due to the absence of papers approaching the subject in the research databases. Contributions: this article contributes to the practitioners involved in supply chain activities who desire to have an initial and structured content related to the impacts and applications of ChatGPT on supply chains. It also seeks to encourage researchers on further research deployments in this field by presenting potential research agenda topics. Results: first evidence based on quality results from the analyzed content showed that, although it may take time until this technology evolves to a desirable level of maturity, it may be applied in different areas of supply chain management (e.g., route optimization, predictive maintenance, order shipment, customer and supplier relationships, data analysis, ordering process, automating invoices, reducing waste, workforce training and guidance, amongst others), with a potential generation of significant benefits such as cost reductions and the improvement of supply chain performance.

Background: Industry 4.0 is one of the topics related to manufacturing, supply chain and logistics that has received great interest from the academic community, organizations and governments in the last decade. Problem statement: Several published articles discuss and seek to conceptualize what the fourth industrial revolution is, but no research relates Industry 4.0 in the context of logistics service providers (LSPs) in a clear and structured way. Objectives: This study aims to fill this research gap, proposing a conceptual framework and addressing the challenges, barriers and organizational dimensions that need adaptation to insert LSPs in the new Industry 4.0 environment. Methods: This theoretical and conceptual study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) as a research method to understand the Industry 4.0 phenomenon in the context of LSPs. Contributions: The relevant constructs identified in this research will help professionals and organizations that provide logistics services to develop strategies and encourage new research in the field of Industry 4.0 from the perspective of LSPs. Results: In addition, this research identified and generally consolidated six dimensions, as a result of this innovative study a conceptual framework is presented.

Os embargos de declaracao existem desde os tempos dos monarcas e, ainda assim, seu desenvolvimento e estudo perfizeram pontos controvertidos durante o caminhar da historia. O efeito modificativo dos embargos de declaracao traz em seu bojo anos de discussao sobre as questoes que o envolvem. A analise desse efeito dos embargos de declaracao sob a otica do Codigo de Processo Civil, advindo da Lei no 13.105/2015, demonstra que, quando da oposicao do recurso, objetivando suprir omissao, clarear obscuridade, corrigir erro material ou eliminar contradicao, e possivel o resultado de modificacao da decisao, alterando o intuito decisorio. Demonstra-se com o presente trabalho, portanto, quais sao as possibilidades de utilizacao de tal regra processual e a posicao adotada atualmente nos principais Tribunais.

Ao lado das qualidades técnicas de seus produtos, parte importante deste sucesso pode ser compreendido através de suas estratégias de comunicação. O emprego de símbolos arquetípicos e narrativas mitológicas na propaganda da marca tem sido analisado por pesquisadores de diversos países. Oobjetivo desta pesquisa é efetuar uma revisão bibliográfica para sintetizar os principais resultados de pesquisas realizadas em países diferentes acerca das mitologias universais criadas em torno da marca e dos produtos da Apple. Observamos que, tal como umareligião, a empresa conta com uma comunidade global de consumidores fiéis, vinculados por um senso identidade e pertencimento, reunidos sob uma atmosfera de comunhão espiritual que estimula a adoração e o culto.

Measuring and evaluating the sustainable performance of an organization has become an important and challenging topic because it involves the economic, social and environmental dimensions, helping the development of policies and becoming strategic factors in the decision-making process. However, difficulties are still encountered by managers in adequately assessing sustainability at the corporate level. In this perspective, data mining and machine learning are presented as techniques for extracting potentially useful information for generation of knowledge. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to identify, by means of a literature review, different approaches used to assist in the evaluation of sustainable performance. The method called Methodi Ordinatio was used for the review and, for the analysis, the software tools: VOSviewer e RStudio. By means of the methodological procedure adopted, 33 significant articles were identified for analysis from the Web of Science, Scopus and Science Direct databases, in which mainly the applied techniques were addressed. In this sense, this study seeks to stimulate research on the use of DM and ML to help in the sustainable context, being essential to assist in the Sustainable Development Goals.

Circular economy can play an important role towards sustainable business management and it can be seen all throughout an organization. Although the current literature regards the circular economy as a guide for more sustainable business models, it is not clear the main implications to key business areas. Therefore this study aimed to present the key impacts of circular economy practices within different business areas that help guide a sustainable management of businesses. To that end, it was identified, by means of a systematic review of the existing literature, the business areas impacted by circular economy practices within an organization. The business areas identified were strategic planning, cost management, supply chain management, quality management, environmental management, process management, logistics and reverse logistics, service management, and research and development, allowing a discussion on the main contributions of the circular economy to each area. A key-impact map was provided summarizing the most influential changes in each area that assist in the management of businesses towards greater sustainability. It is important that organizations understand and accurately internalize circularity principles within their strategic plan. On that note, adopting a circular thinking might enable an organization to obtain more sustainable (economic) results while reducing impacts.

Highlights • SILAC proteomics approach yielded important cisplatin resistance biomarkers in NSCLC. • Cisplatin resistance upregulated NER-based repair and downregulated mRNA splicing-related pathways. • STAT3 KO conferred epithelial morphology and sensitized to mTOR inhibition. • Cisplatin responsiveness is dependent on STAT3 and mTOR crosstalk in NSCLC cells. • Synergistically inhibition of STAT3 and mTOR is possibly a potential approach against NSCLC., Lung cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide and is strongly associated with cisplatin resistance. The transcription factor signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is constitutively activated in cancer cells and coordinates critical cellular processes as survival, self-renewal, and inflammation. In several types of cancer, STAT3 controls the development, immunogenicity, and malignant behavior of tumor cells while it dictates the responsiveness to radio- and chemotherapy. It is known that STAT3 phosphorylation at Ser727 by mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) is necessary for its maximal activation, but the crosstalk between STAT3 and mTOR signaling in cisplatin resistance remains elusive. In this study, using a proteomic approach, we revealed important targets and signaling pathways altered in cisplatin-resistant A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells. STAT3 had increased expression in a resistance context, which can be associated with a poor prognosis. STAT3 knockout (SKO) resulted in a decreased mesenchymal phenotype in A549 cells, observed by clonogenic potential and by the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition markers. Importantly, SKO cells did not acquire the mTOR pathway overactivation induced by cisplatin resistance. Consistently, SKO cells were more responsive to mTOR inhibition by rapamycin and presented impairment of the feedback activation loop in Akt. Therefore, rapamycin was even more potent in inhibiting the clonogenic potential in SKO cells and sensitized to cisplatin treatment. Mechanistically, STAT3 partially coordinated the cisplatin resistance phenotype via the mTOR pathway in non-small cell lung cancer. Thus, our findings reveal important targets and highlight the significance of the crosstalk between STAT3 and mTOR signaling in cisplatin resistance. The synergic inhibition of STAT3 and mTOR potentially unveil a potential mechanism of synthetic lethality to be explored for human lung cancer treatment.

Neste artigo analisamos como se constitui a defesa da vida e das águas em conflitos socioambientais na região de Cajamarca, norte do Peru. A disputa por água tem se tornado nos últimos anos uma questão central da vida das pessoas em uma região que é foco de exploração mineradora e para a qual se utilizam discursos e apelos para evocar os benefícios quanto ao desenvolvimento que ela pode realizar. Ao longo de pesquisa etnográfica se testemunhou o esforço de pessoas e coletivos para defender as águas dos rios, das lagoas e dos canais de irrigação nos Andes em paralelo ao modo como defendem a vida. Ao fazê-lo, articulam memórias, aprendizagens locais e experiências coletivas para romper com os papeis que a ordem política convencional lhes destinou, constituindo criativamente modos próprios de pensar e pôr em prática projetos de vida e resistir à opulência das empresas mineradoras ou às autoridades estatais. In this article we analyze the defense of life and water in social and environmental conflicts in the region of Cajamarca, northern Peru. In recent years the contention over water has become a central issue in people's lives in a region whose main focus is mining exploration and for which discourses and appeals are used to evoke the benefits of development that it can bring about. Through ethnographic research, we witnessed the efforts of people and collectives to defend the waters of rivers, lagoons and irrigation channels in the Andes in parallel to the way they defend life. In doing so, they articulate memories, local knowledge and collective experiences to disrupt the roles that the conventional political order has assigned to them. They creatively enact their own ways of thinking and articulate life projects, resisting to the opulence of mining companies or state authorities.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer‑associated death worldwide and exhibits intrinsic and acquired therapeutic resistance to cisplatin (CIS). The present study investigated the role of mTOR signaling and other signaling pathways after metformin (MET) treatment in control and cisplatin‑resistant A549 cells, mapping pathways and possible targets involved in CIS sensitivity. MTT, flow cytometry, clonogenic assay, western blotting, proteomic analysis using the Stable Isotope Labeling by Amino acids in Cell culture (SILAC) approach and reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR were performed. The results revealed that CIS treatment induced mTOR signaling pathway overactivation, and the mTOR status was restored by MET. MET and the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin (RAPA) decreased the viability in control and resistant cells, and decreased the cell size increase induced by CIS. In control cells, MET and RAPA decreased colony formation after 72 h and decreased IC50 values, potentiating the effects of CIS. Proteomics analysis revealed important pathways regulated by MET, including transcription, RNA processing and IL‑12‑mediated signaling. In CIS‑resistant cells, MET regulated the apoptotic process, oxidative stress and G2/M transition. Annexin 4 (ANXA4) and superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2), involved in apoptosis and oxidative stress, respectively, were chosen to validate the SILAC analysis and may represent potential therapeutic targets for lung cancer treatment. In conclusion, the chemosensitizing and antiproliferative effects of MET were associated with mTOR signaling and with potential novel targets, such as ANXA4 and SOD2, in human lung cancer cells.

In this work, we study the obtainment of compact submanifolds of the codimension 2 spacelike through special lightlike hypersurfaces. For a more in-depth understanding, we will approach from the main results of Riemannian and semi-Riemannian geometries. We will see that obtaining a temporal orientation for the Lorentzian submanifolds Σ and a pseudo-orthogonal basis for (TΣ)⊥ have the fundamental feature for our calculation base and, thus, we can define and to characterize the trapped submanifolds as to their causality and inform which restrictions are necessary to be considered compact. Para um entendimento mais aprofundado abordaremos os principais resultados das geometrias Riemanniana e semi-Riemannianas até que possamos definir o que é uma subvariedade aprisionada. Iremos ver que obter uma orientação temporal para a subvariedade Lorentziana Σ e uma base pseudo-ortogonal para o (TΣ)⊥ possuem o cunho fundamental para a nossa base de cálculos e, desse modo, podemos definir e caracterizar as subvariedades aprisionadas quanto a sua causalidade e informar quais as restrições necessárias para que possa ser consideradas compactas.

Obesity is closely related to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes genesis. The liver is a key organ to glucose homeostasis since insulin resistance in this organ increases hepatic glucose production (HGP) and fasting hyperglycemia. The protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) may dephosphorylate the IR and IRS, contributing to insulin resistance in this organ. Aerobic exercise is a great strategy to increase insulin action in the liver by reducing the PTP1B content. In contrast, no study has shown the direct effects of strength training on the hepatic metabolism of PTP1B. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of short-term strength exercise (STSE) on hepatic insulin sensitivity and PTP1B content in obese mice, regardless of body weight change. To achieve this goal, obese Swiss mice were submitted to a strength exercise protocol lasting 15 days. The results showed that STSE increased Akt phosphorylation in the liver and enhanced the control of HGP during the pyruvate tolerance test. Furthermore, sedentary obese animals increased PTP1B content and decreased IRS-1/2 tyrosine phosphorylation, however, STSE was able to reverse this scenario. Therefore, we conclude that STSE is an important strategy to improve the hepatic insulin sensitivity and HGP by reducing the PTP1B content in the liver of obese mice, regardless of changes in body weight.

Tese de Doutoramento em Relações Internacionais O território do Saara Ocidental continua a ter a designação de território não autogovernado, por parte das Nações Unidas e, no entanto, Marrocos foi-se apropriando deste, enquanto que a República Árabe Saarauí Democrática (RASD) e a Frente Polisário lutam pela emancipação que, desde os anos sessenta do século XX, se enquadrava no direito à autodeterminação. Posto isto, o objeto desta investigação é o sistema de interesses geopolíticos, diretos e indiretos, no conflito do Saara Ocidental. O tema assume particular relevância dado que o reino de Marrocos defende que o Saara Ocidental constitui parte das suas províncias do Sul, e sustenta que a área ocupada pelo Estado não autónomo lhe pertence, anexando-o parcialmente. De forma adicional, o passado colonial do Saara aponta Espanha como Estado responsável, porque não cumpriu com a obrigação legal, como potência administradora, de concluir a descolonização de forma definitiva, no que respeita a questões de soberania. O conflito de interesses que se aborda ao longo da investigação, leva-nos a entender quais as razões que têm levado a um arrastamento da situação até aos nossos dias. Por se tratar de um conflito sem resolução à vista, tornou-se uma questão importante para a investigação em Relações Internacionais e Geopolítica. Assente numa metodologia de caráter qualitativo, recorre-se a um método indutivo, à técnica de análise documental e, como procedimento de análise dos dados contou-se com o modelo ICB e o modelo I-O. Conclui-se que a irresolução do conflito do Saara Ocidental resulta das pretensões irreconciliáveis das partes - Marrocos e a RASD -, que lutam pela soberania sobre o território. A militarização do Magrebe sustenta o prolongamento do conflito do Saara Ocidental, enquanto garante as condições para a instalação de uma nova ordem geopolítica apoiada por uma retórica do desenvolvimento. The territory of Western Sahara continues to be designated as a non-self-governing territory by the United Nations, and yet Morocco has appropriated it, while the Democratic Saharawi Arab Republic (SADR) and the Polisario Front are fighting for the emancipation that, since the sixties of the twentieth century, fits on the right of self-determination. Taking this into account, the object of this investigation is the system of geopolitical interests, direct and indirect, in the Western Sahara conflict. The topic assumes particular relevance given that the Kingdom of Morocco defends that Western Sahara forms part of its southern provinces, and maintains that the area occupied by the non-autonomous state belongs to it, annexing it partially. In addition, the Sahara's colonial past blames Spain as responsible, because it has failed to fulfill its legal obligation, as an administrative power, to complete decolonization definitively, with respect to sovereignty issues. The conflict of interest that is addressed during the investigation, leads us to understand what are the reasons that have led to a dragging of the situation until today. Because it is a conflict with no resolution in sight, it has become an important topic for research in International Relations and Geopolitics. Based on a qualitative methodology, we use an inductive method, the document analysis technique and, as a data analysis procedure, we used the ICB model and the I-O model. It is concluded that the irresolution of the conflict of Western Sahara results from the irreconcilable pretensions of both parts - Morocco and SADR -, that fight for the sovereignty over the territory. The militarization of the Maghreb mantains the prolongation of the Western Sahara conflict, while guaranteeing the conditions for the installation of a new geopolitical order supported by a rhetoric of development. Obesity is linked to a reduction in the control of hepatic glucose production, which is the primary mechanism related to fasting hyperglycemia and the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The main system involved in hepatic gluconeogenesis synthesis is controlled by pyruvate carboxylase (PC), which increases in obesity conditions. Recently, we showed that short-term strength training is an important tool against obesity-induced hyperglycemia. As aerobic exercise can reduce the hepatic PC content of obese animals, we hypothesized that strength exercise can also decrease this gluconeogenic enzyme. Therefore, this study investigated whether the metabolic benefits promoted by short-term strength training are related to changes in hepatic PC content. Swiss mice were divided into three groups: lean control (Ctl), obese sedentary (ObS), and obese short-term strength training (STST). The STST protocol was performed through one session/day for 15 days. The obese exercised animals had reduced hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. These results were related to better control of hepatic glucose production and hepatic insulin sensitivity. Our bioinformatics analysis showed that hepatic PC mRNA levels have positive correlations with glucose levels and adiposity, and negative correlations with locomotor activity and muscle mass. We also found that hepatic mRNA levels are related to lipogenic markers in the liver. Finally, we observed that the obese animals had an increased hepatic PC level; however, STST was efficient in reducing its amount. In conclusion, we provide insights into new biomolecular mechanisms by showing how STST is an efficient tool against obesity-related hyperglycemia and T2DM, even without body weight changes.

Mitonuclear imbalance and the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) are two conserved mitochondrial mechanisms that play critical roles in ensuring mitochondrial proteostasis and function. Here, we combined bioinformatics, physiological, and molecular analyses to examine the role of mitonuclear imbalance and UPRmt in the skeletal muscle of aged rodents and humans. The analysis of transcripts from the skeletal muscle of aged humans (60-70 years old) revealed that individuals with higher levels of UPRmt-related genes displayed a consistent increase in several mitochondrial-related genes, including the OXPHOS-associated genes. Interestingly, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) was effective in stimulating the mitonuclear imbalance and UPRmt in the skeletal muscle of aged mice. Furthermore, these results were accompanied by higher levels of several mitochondrial markers and improvements in physiological parameters and physical performance. These data indicate that the maintenance or stimulation of the mitonuclear imbalance and UPRmt in the skeletal muscle could ensure mitochondrial proteostasis during aging, revealing new insights into targeting mitochondrial metabolism by using physical exercise. Neste artigo, analisamos práticas de agricultores familiares que cultivam sementes crioulas de milho num contexto de expressiva inserção de transgênicos no Brasil meridional. Examinamos quais discursos são acionados para que tais variedades tenham significativa expansão na região e as avaliações críticas realizadas pelos agricultores. Podemos considerar o incentivo ao plantio e à produção de variedades transgênicas enquanto uma iniciativa pertencente às dinâmicas de desenvolvimento? A pesquisa de caráter qualitativo foi realizada em Canguçu, Rio Grande do Sul, e mostrou que a adoção dos transgênicos tem efeitos diversos que, independente de representar sucesso ou fracasso do desenvolvimento, geram desejos, subjetividades e relações que (re)produzem desigualdades. Nesses contextos, eventos agropecuários são articulados para promover a ideia de que transgênicos trazem facilidade e produtividade. Mesmo com impactos na agrobiodiversidade e as percepções que os agricultores têm acerca de dificuldades e eventuais frustrações nas colheitas, é justamente isto que cria condições para novas iniciativas de “desenvolvimento”. In this article, we analyze practices of family farmers who cultivate native corn seeds (open source seeds) in a context of significant growth of transgenics in southern Brazil. We examine which speeches are triggered so that such varieties have significant expansion in the region and also the critical assessments by farmers. Can we consider encouraging the planting and production of transgenic varieties as an initiative belonging to the dynamics of development? The qualitative research was carried out in Canguçu, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and showed that the adoption of transgenics has several effects. Regardless it represents success or failure of development, this initiative generates desires, subjectivities and relationships that (re) produce inequalities. In these contexts, rural events and seminars are articulated to promote the idea that transgenics bring easiness and productivity. Even with impacts on agrobiodiversity and perceptions that farmers have about difficulties and possible frustrations in the harvests, this is exactly what creates conditions for new “development” initiatives.

Atualmente, a maneira como as pessoas se deslocam nas grandes cidades brasileiras é, em boa medida, resultado de um complexo processo de evolução urbana, apoiado na crescente taxa de motorização individual e na prestação de serviços de transportes públicos cada vez mais deficitários. Para agravar a situação, a integração entre os diferentes modos de transporte, quando existentes, sofrem com sérias limitações, fato que contribui para a escolha do modo individual motorizado e aumenta os problemas no tráfego. Não é uma casualidade que a bicicleta tem ganhado força nas discussões sobre mobilidade. Vários estudos acadêmicos sugerem que investimentos em transportes ativos podem tornar o uso das modalidades tradicionais mais racional e equilibrado. Nesse contexto, o objetivo geral desta dissertação consiste em estimar a ciclabilidade viária do município de Belo Horizonte/MG, a partir de um modelo capaz de avaliar o grau de adequação das vias ao uso da bicicleta como modo alternativo de transporte. Com base na identificação dos fatores que influenciam sua utilização, valendo-se de ferramentas de análise multicritério, foi proposto um índice sintético, composto de indicadores desagregados, para representar os níveis locais de ciclabilidade. De um modo geral, os resultados apontam que grande parte das vias apresenta índices consideráveis de ciclabilidade, por exemplo, os níveis de desempenho “Alto” e “Muito alto” correspondem a 44,2% do total da extensão viária municipal. Além disso, as regionais Pampulha e Venda Nova se destacam positivamente quando comparado os resultados gerais das unidades administrativas. Esse desempenho contraria o senso comum que tende a compreender a capital mineira como inapropriada ao uso bicicleta, seja por suas características socioambientais, principalmente aquelas relacionadas à topografia do sítio urbano, seja pela falta de infraestrutura adequada. Entende-se que ao promover a discussão de como sistemas frágeis de mobilidade e acessibilidade urbana afetam diretamente a qualidade de vida da população, principalmente da população mais carente de recursos, assim como agravam as desigualdades sociais e pressionam as condições do equilíbrio ambiental, esta dissertação vai ao encontro das necessidades apontadas pela Comissão de Área de Ciências Ambientais da CAPES de fomentar a investigação e a inserção social da pesquisa. Currently, the manner people move in large Brazilian cities is, to a great extent, the result of a complex process of urban evolution, supported by the increasing rate of individual motorization and the provision of increasingly deficient public transport services. Besides that, the integration among the different modes of transport, when available, suffer from serious limitations, which contributes to the choice of the individual motorized mode and increases the problems in traffic. Moreover, it is not by chance that the use of bicycles has been gaining strength in discussions about mobility. Several academic studies suggest that investments in active transport can make the use of traditional modalities more rational and balanced. In this context, the general objective of this dissertation is to estimate the bikeability in the city of Belo Horizonte/MG, based on a model capable of assessing the degree of adequacy of roads for the use of bicycles as an alternative mode of transport. Based on the identification of the factors that influence its use, using tools of multicriteria analysis, a synthetic index, composed of disaggregated indicators, was proposed to represent the local levels of bikeability. In general, the results show that most of the roads have considerable levels of bikability, for example, the performance levels “High” and “Very high” corresponding to 44.2% of the total municipal road extension. In addition, the Pampulha and Venda Nova regions stand out positively when compared to the general results of the other regions. This performance contradicts the common sense that tends to consider the capital of Minas Gerais as inappropriate for bicycle use, either due to its environmental characteristics, mainly those related to the topography of the urban site, or due to the lack of adequate infrastructure. It is understood that by promoting the discussion of how fragile systems of mobility and urban accessibility directly affect the quality of life of the population, especially the population most in need of resources, as well as aggravating social inequalities and pressuring the conditions of environmental balance, this dissertation meets the needs pointed out by the Environmental Sciences Area Committee of CAPES to promote research and the social insertion of research.
