Background Rapid urbanization, academic pressures, and developmental life transition stressors contribute to mental health stress for postsecondary students in China. Effective prevention, early identification, and timely intervention are challenged by stigma, a lack of mental health literacy, and inadequate mental health resources. Objective Our implementation science (IS) research project is aimed at evaluating the use of an evidence-informed mental health promotion intervention named Acceptance and Commitment to Empowerment – Linking Youth and ‘Xin’ (hearts) (ACE-LYNX) to promote university student mental health in Jinan, China. Methods We will engage and collaborate with Shandong Mental Health Center, the provincial mental health center, and six local universities in different regions of Jinan. The ACE-LYNX intervention aims to reduce social stigma against mental illness, enhance mental health literacy, and improve access to quality mental health care by increasing interdisciplinary collaboration and forming a mental health network. It is based on two evidence-based approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Group Empowerment Psychoeducation (GEP), and it will be delivered through online learning and in-person group training. The project will train 90 interdisciplinary professionals using the model. They will in turn train 15 professionals and 20 students at each university. The project will adopt the Reach, Efficacy, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework, which provides a structure to examine the process and outcomes of implementation using mixed methods comprising quantitative and qualitative approaches along five dimensions: reach, efficacy, adoption, implementation, and maintenance. Results Over the course of the project, 720 champions will be directly trained. They will contribute to developing a formal and informal mental health network, strengthened by student-led mental health initiatives and professional-led initiatives to promote collaborative care and facilitated care pathways. We anticipate that our project will reach out to 11,000 to 18,000 students. Conclusions This IS protocol will outline our unique intervention model and key steps to contextualize, implement, and evaluate community-based mental health intervention. While formative assessment is recognised as a powerful strategy to improve student learning in mainstream education, less is known about its use in special schools. This study investigates how teachers’ Personal Practice Assessment Theories (PPATs) affect their formative assessment practices within the special school context with the support of e-books. A case study was conducted with three Chinese teachers working with lower primary students who exhibit mild levels of intellectual disability. Data were collected through classroom observations and interviews. The findings reveal that the interaction between teachers’ PPATs and the e-learning environment affect teachers’ assessment goals, and the way they ‘elicit’, ‘interpret’ and ‘respond’ to assessment information. This study contributes to the understanding of how e-learning technology can be used to facilitate meaningful formative assessment in the special education context.

Since the announcement of a million-mile battery by Tesla, single-crystal processing of layered oxide cathode has received great attention recently. From single-crystal process, high Ni layered oxides with grain size in mm range tends to give better cycling performance due to better structural integrity against repeated charge/discharge cycles. However, during heating/calcination process of oxide/carbonates/nitrates powder compacts, it may involve decomposition, chemical reactions, diffusion, oxidation, sintering, grain-growth. For single-crystal process, the powder compacts need to be heated to higher temperatures (~950°C) for certain period of time. On the other hand, enough air/oxygen is need for Ni oxidation and better crystallization in Ni-rich layered structure. Therefore, it is important to investigate the processing of single-crystal Ni-rich layered oxide based on the sintering behavior, thermal gravimetric analysis, and phase transformation. Nevertheless, the lithiation/oxidation of Ni-containing oxides involves charge compensation resulted from defect reactions. As a result, the affected electrical, optical, structural, and electrochemical properties of layered oxides will be discussed based on defect chemistry consideration. The structural, microstructural and electrical properties of decomposed precursors and doped layered oxides will be examined using XRD, SEM and DC/AC impedance measurements. CV and charge/discharge tests from assembled coin cells will be used to evaluate electrochemical properties of single-crystal Ni-rich layered oxides.

International audience; We perform unsupervised analysis of image-derived shape and motion features extracted from 3,822 cardiac Magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs) of the UK Biobank. First, with a feature extraction method previously published based on deep learning models, we extract from each case 9 feature values characterizing both the cardiac shape and motion. Second, a feature selection is performed to remove highly correlated feature pairs. Third, clustering is carried out using a Gaussian mixture model on the selected features. After analysis, we identify 2 small clusters that probably correspond to 2 pathological categories. Further confirmation using a trained classification model and dimensionality reduction tools is carried out to support this finding. Moreover, we examine the differences between the other large clusters and compare our measures with the ground truth.

Purpose: To demonstrate the feasibility and performance of a fully automated deep learning framework to estimate myocardial strain from short-axis cardiac magnetic resonance tagged images. Methods and Materials: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 4508 cases from the UK Biobank were split randomly into 3244 training and 812 validation cases, and 452 test cases. Ground truth myocardial landmarks were defined and tracked by manual initialization and correction of deformable image registration using previously validated software with five readers. The fully automatic framework consisted of 1) a convolutional neural network (CNN) for localization, and 2) a combination of a recurrent neural network (RNN) and a CNN to detect and track the myocardial landmarks through the image sequence for each slice. Radial and circumferential strain were then calculated from the motion of the landmarks and averaged on a slice basis. Results: Within the test set, myocardial end-systolic circumferential Green strain errors were -0.001 +/- 0.025, -0.001 +/- 0.021, and 0.004 +/- 0.035 in basal, mid, and apical slices respectively (mean +/- std. dev. of differences between predicted and manual strain). The framework reproduced significant reductions in circumferential strain in diabetics, hypertensives, and participants with previous heart attack. Typical processing time was ~260 frames (~13 slices) per second on an NVIDIA Tesla K40 with 12GB RAM, compared with 6-8 minutes per slice for the manual analysis. We report a case of pulmonary embolism in a patient who presented with repeated anxiety attacks and psychotic symptoms and was misdiagnosed as having withdrawal seizure or anxiety disorder not otherwise specified. This case highlighted the nonspecific clinical features of pulmonary embolism and the principles in making psychiatric diagnosis. Careful history taking, thorough physical examination, appropriate investigation, and a high index of suspicion led to the correct diagnosis. The principle of hierarchy of psychiatric diagnosis (ie, organic over non-organic) and the possibility of comorbidities should always apply.

Cathode materials with high energy density for Li ion batteries have received great attention due to the high demand in transportation applications. Although several crystal structures have been demonstrated and shown reversible capabilities during lithiation/delithiation processes in cathode of Li ion batteries; oxides with layered/spinel structure still remain the ones that provide higher energy densities. However, higher energy density means the creation of more ionic/electronic defects in both cation and/or anion sublattices of layered/spinel structures. Higher defect concentration in either cation or anion sublattices tend to destabilize its crystal structure. As a result, the phase change is frequently observed in repeatedly cycled cathode. Furthermore, the phase-changing cathode tends to show the capacity fading after cycling tests. Based on defect consideration, the stability of highly defective materials may be enhanced by using dopant and/or better processing routes. In this study, the electrical/electrochemical/structural properties of oxide cathodes will be investigated. First, the electrical measurement of spinel/layered oxides are conducted using sintered disc. Assembled cells using above-mentioned cathode and Li anode with desired liquid electrolyte will be tested and cycled. XPS, SEM and XRD analyses will be conducted on as-assembled as well as cycled cells. The analyzing results will be illustrated based on the processing parameters and defect chemistry of doping ions and the accompanying defects created.

Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text., Background: Exposure to ambient air pollution is strongly associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Little is known about the influence of air pollutants on cardiac structure and function. We aim to investigate the relationship between chronic past exposure to traffic-related pollutants and the cardiac chamber volume, ejection fraction, and left ventricular remodeling patterns after accounting for potential confounders. Methods: Exposure to ambient air pollutants including particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide was estimated from the Land Use Regression models for the years between 2005 and 2010. Cardiac parameters were measured from cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging studies of 3920 individuals free from pre-existing cardiovascular disease in the UK Biobank population study. The median (interquartile range) duration between the year of exposure estimate and the imaging visit was 5.2 (0.6) years. We fitted multivariable linear regression models to investigate the relationship between cardiac parameters and traffic-related pollutants after adjusting for various confounders. Background: The trend towards large-scale studies including population imaging poses new challenges in terms of quality control (QC). This is a particular issue when automatic processing tools, e.g. image segmentation methods, are employed to derive quantitative measures or biomarkers for later analyses. Manual inspection and visual QC of each segmentation isn't feasible at large scale. However, it's important to be able to automatically detect when a segmentation method fails so as to avoid inclusion of wrong measurements into subsequent analyses which could lead to incorrect conclusions. Methods: To overcome this challenge, we explore an approach for predicting segmentation quality based on Reverse Classification Accuracy, which enables us to discriminate between successful and failed segmentations on a per-cases basis. We validate this approach on a new, large-scale manually-annotated set of 4,800 cardiac magnetic resonance scans. We then apply our method to a large cohort of 7,250 cardiac MRI on which we have performed manual QC. Results: We report results used for predicting segmentation quality metrics including Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) and surface-distance measures. As initial validation, we present data for 400 scans demonstrating 99% accuracy for classifying low and high quality segmentations using predicted DSC scores. As further validation we show high correlation between real and predicted scores and 95% classification accuracy on 4,800 scans for which manual segmentations were available. We mimic real-world application of the method on 7,250 cardiac MRI where we show good agreement between predicted quality metrics and manual visual QC scores. Background Handgrip strength, a measure of muscular fitness, is associated with cardiovascular (CV) events and CV mortality but its association with cardiac structure and function is unknown. The goal of this study was to determine if handgrip strength is associated with changes in cardiac structure and function in UK adults. Methods and results Left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF), end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV), stroke volume (SV), mass (M), and mass-to-volume ratio (MVR) were measured in a sample of 4,654 participants of the UK Biobank Study 6.3 ± 1 years after baseline using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Handgrip strength was measured at baseline and at the imaging follow-up examination. We determined the association between handgrip strength at baseline as well as its change over time and each of the cardiac outcome parameters. After adjustment, higher level of handgrip strength at baseline was associated with higher LVEDV (difference per SD increase in handgrip strength: 1.3ml, 95% CI 0.1±2.4; p = 0.034), higher LVSV (1.0ml, 0.3±1.8; p = 0.006), lower LVM (-1.0g, -1.8 ±-0.3; p = 0.007), and lower LVMVR (-0.013g/ml, -0.018 ±-0.007; p Conclusions Better handgrip strength was associated with cardiac structure and function in a pattern indicative of less cardiac hypertrophy and remodeling. These characteristics are known to be associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events.

This study aimed at providing explanation and prediction of principals’ inclusive education intentions and practices under the framework of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). A sample of 209 principals from Hong Kong schools was surveyed using five scales that were developed to assess the five components of TPB: attitude, subjective norm, perceived behaviour control, intention, and behaviour. Rasch analysis was utilised to examine the psychometric quality of the scales and generate principals’ measures, which were subsequently subjected to path analysis to investigate the relationships among the five components. The results revealed a good model–data fit. Principals’ attitude and perceived subjective norm were strong and significant predictors of their intention to implement inclusive education. The predictive power of perceived behaviour control on intention was not significant. A vast wealth of literature exists on the topic of rocket trajectory optimisation, particularly in the area of interplanetary trajectories due to its relevance today. However, a large proportion of the research is focused on using a specific propulsion system, and is almost exclusively conducted using Newtonian mechanics. Studies on optimising interstellar and intergalactic trajectories are usually performed in flat spacetime using an analytical approach, with very little focus on optimising interstellar trajectories in a general relativistic framework. This thesis examines the use of low-acceleration rockets to reach galactic destinations in the least possible time, with a genetic algorithm being employed for the optimisation process. The fuel required for each journey was calculated for various types of propulsion systems to determine the viability of low-acceleration rockets to colonise the Milky Way. To limit the amount of fuel carried on board, it was found that an antimatter propulsion system would likely be the minimum technological requirement to reach star systems tens of thousands of light years away. However, using a low-acceleration rocket would require several hundreds of thousands of years to reach these star systems, with minimal time dilation effects since maximum velocities only reached about 0.2c. Such transit times are clearly impractical, and it was concluded that low-acceleration rockets are not a viable candidate for galactic colonisation. High accelerations, on the order of 1g, are likely required to complete interstellar journeys within a reasonable time frame. To minimise fuel consumption, the propulsion system would likely need to be more advanced than an antimatter drive, though such a claim would require further research.
