Abstract

Using the 1.32 $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ pb - 1 statistics collected at the $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $$e^{+}e^{-\, }$$ e + e - collider, we measured the branching fractions of $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ meson decays to the final states 2($$\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-})\pi ^{0}$$ π + π - ) π 0 , $$K^{+}K^{-}\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\pi ^{0}$$ K + K - π + π - π 0 , 2($$\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-})$$ π + π - ) and $$K^{+}K^{-}\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}$$ K + K - π + π - . The results obtained for the decays $$J/\psi \rightarrow $$ J / ψ → 2($$\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-})\pi ^{0}$$ π + π - ) π 0 , $$J/\psi \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\pi ^{0}$$ J / ψ → K + K - π + π - π 0 contradict the measurements performed by other groups in the last century, but agree well with recent results of BABAR and BESIII collaborations.

Abstract

A closed mathematical model of continuous spin detonation with the chemical kinetics equation correlated with the second law of thermodynamics is developed for a hydrogen–air mixture within the framework of the quasi-three-dimensional unsteady gas-dynamic formulation. The model takes into account the reverse influence of the oscillation processes in the combustor on the injection system of the mixture components. For comparisons with experimental data, the numerical simulations are performed for the geometric parameters of the flow-type annular combustor with an outer diameter of 306 mm used in the experiments. For the flow rates of the mixture varied in the interval 73.1–171.3 kg/(s $$\, \cdot\,$$ m $$^{2}$$ ), the one-wave, two-wave, and three-wave regimes of continuous spin detonation are calculated, the flow structure is analyzed, the specific impulses are determined, and comparisons with experimental data are performed. It is shown that the use of a simplified single-stage kinetic scheme of hydrogen oxidation, which was used in some investigations, for simulating continuous spin detonation leads to results that differ from the experimental data by several times.

Abstract

The taxonomy of the European whitefish species complex Coregonus lavaretus (L.) is extremely intricate. Owing to wide distribution from Central Europe to water bodies in Chukotka and high biological plasticity, many forms with different taxonomic status have been described. Teletskoye Lake is inhabited by two endemic whitefishes: Pravdin's whitefish Coregonus lavaretus pravdinellus and Teletskoye whitefish C. smitti. Previously, a total of 106 mitogenomes of whitefishes from the C. lavaretus complex from different populations of the Baltic and North seas were sequenced; however, there are no such data for whitefishes from Siberia. We obtain the mitochondrial genomes of C. smitti and C. l. pravdinellus, 16 738 bp in length, with high coverage. The mitogenomes differ in 46 positions (0.27%). Comparative analysis of C. lavaretus mitogenomes from water bodies of Europe and Teletskoye Lake confirms the common origin of the populations from the eastern part of the Baltic Sea and water bodies of Siberia. In addition, analysis of the complete mitogenomes of C. smitti and C. l. pravdinellus does not confirm their different taxonomic status, at least on the basis of mtDNA.

We review the recent results obtained by the KEDR experiment in the charmonium energy range. They include the measurements of $J/\psi$ meson total and partial widths and exclusive branching fractions, study of $D^+$ and $D^0$ meson masses and R between 1.8 and 7.0 GeV.

Abstract

Using the approach of sequencing the V3–V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene, we have analyzed the bacterial diversity associated with the gut and “body” (other parts of nematode after dissection: cuticle, epidermis and longitudinal muscles, etc) of Cystidicola farionis parasitizing the swim bladder of different morphotypes of the nosed charr. Comparisons of the gut microbiota of nematodes with their “body” has revealed that the associated microbiota are closely related to each other. Taxonomic analysis indicated that the relative abundances of the dominant nematode-associated bacteria varied with individual fish. The common dominant microbiota of the gut and “body” of nematodes were represented by Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Shewanella, and Yersinia, while the associated microbiota of the swim bladder of the nosed charr was dominated by Acinetobacter, Cetobacterium, Pajaroellobacter, Paracoccus, Pseudomonas, Shewanella. By comparing the associated microbiota of nematode parasitizing the different morphotypes of the nosed charr the difference in richness estimates (number of OTU’s and Chao1) were revealed between the N1g and N2 morphs.

Abstract

We present the first accurate results of measurements of the tensor analyzing power component $$T_{20}$$ for the coherent neutral pion photoproduction on the deuteron. The measurements were performed at the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics at VEPP-3 storage ring using the internal tensor polarized deuterium target. The measurements cover the region of photon energy from 200 to 450 MeV and the region of the center-of-mass pion polar angle from 100 to 140 degrees. The results obtained are compared with predictions of several theoretical models.

Abstract

The product of the electronic width of the ψ(2S) meson and the branching fraction of its decay to the muon pair was measured in the e + e − → ψ (2S) → μ + μ − process using nine data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.5 pb−1 collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider: Γ e e × B μ μ = 19.3 ± 0.3 ± 0.5 eV . Adding the previous KEDR results on hadronic and leptonic channels, the values of the ψ(2S) electronic width were obtained under two assumptions: either with the assumption of lepton universality Γ e e = 2.279 ± 0.015 ± 0.042 keV or without it, summing up hadronic and three independent leptonic channels Γ e e = 2.282 ± 0.015 ± 0.042 keV .

Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − e + e − collider, we have measured the values of R uds R uds and R at seven points of the center-of-mass energy between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV. The total achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.3% 3.3 % at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 2.1% 2.1 % . At the moment it is the most accurate measurement of R(s) R ( s ) in this energy range.

Abstract

The National Synchrotron Light Source II is a third generation light source, which was constructed at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This project includes a highly-optimized 3 GeV electron storage ring, linac preinjector, and full-energy synchrotron injector. Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics built and delivered the booster for NSLS-II. The commissioning of the booster was successfully completed. This paper reviews fulfilled work by participants.

Abstract

Artifacts in projection data and images obtained by medical X-ray computer tomography were analyzed. A general-purpose tomographic image reconstruction unit was used to clarify and elaborate the artifact simulation mechanism. It allows corrupted data to be input at different stages of the image reconstruction procedure. Introduction of these data leads to occurrence of image artifacts. The artifact simulation was used to develop filtering procedures for reduction of artifacts and evaluate the filter effectiveness. An effective method for reduction of artifacts in tomographic images based on projection data filtering was found.

Abstract

The paper presents the results of measurements of the tensor analyzing power component [Formula: see text] for the coherent neutral pion photoproduction on the deuteron. The measurements were performed in the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics using the internal tensor polarized deuterium target at VEPP-3 storage ring. The measurements covered the region of the photon energy 240 — 420[Formula: see text]MeV and the region of the center-of-mass pion polar angle 100–140[Formula: see text]. The results of measurements were compared with the calculations performed within frameworks of several theoretical models.

Abstract

The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the $R$ value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than $2.6\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $1.9\%$. Together with the previous precise $R$ measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84-3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision $R$ measurement near the charmonium production threshold., arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1610.02827 and substantial text overlap with arXiv:1510.02667

Abstract

The product of the electronic width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fractions of its decay to hadrons and electrons has been measured using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The obtained values are $$ \begin{array}{c}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=5.550\pm 0.056\pm 0.089\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{\mathrm{hadrons}}\left(J/\psi \right)=4.884\pm 0.048\pm 0.078\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=0.3331\pm 0.0066\pm 0.0040\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}.\hfill \end{array} $$ Γ e e J / ψ = 5.550 ± 0.056 ± 0.089 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ hadrons J / ψ = 4.884 ± 0.048 ± 0.078 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ e e J / ψ = 0.3331 ± 0.0066 ± 0.0040 keV . The uncertainties shown are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the result presented and the world-average value of the electronic branching fraction, one obtains the total width of the J/ψ meson: $$ \Gamma =92.94\pm 1.83\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}. $$ Γ = 92.94 ± 1.83 keV . These results are consistent with the previous experiments.

Abstract

We present the analysis of all KEDR data on the determination of J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) masses. The data comprise six scans of J / ψ and seven scans of ψ ( 2 S ) which were performed at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in 2002–2008. The beam energy was determined using the resonance depolarization method. The detector and accelerator conditions during scans were very different that increases the reliability of the averaged results. The analysis accounts for partial correlations of systematic uncertainties on the masses. The following mass values were obtained: M J / ψ = 3096.900 ± 0.002 ± 0.006 MeV , M ψ ( 2 S ) = 3686.099 ± 0.004 ± 0.009 MeV . These results supersede our previous measurements published in 2003 and 2012.

Abstract

We formulate a mesokinetic model of feedstock transformation into a material based on a system of devices in which the material is mechanically, thermally, or chemically modified. The idea of a frequency function that describes the rate of change of the function of particle distribution for a substance over the states in each device has been introduced. The possible application of the model to the development of technology that provides the maximum contribution of every device to the feedstock transformation to material is considered. It has been shown that, in developing the technology of the materials, it should be taken into account that, in many systems, the function of the size distribution of the particle varies according to the Fokker–Planck equation.

A method for monitoring electron synchrotron parameters is proposed. The adjustment and control of the synchrotron are analyzed. The architecture, operation logic, and software means of the monitoring system are considered. The software of the monitoring system of the booster parameters for the NSLS-II synchrotron light source is described, which was developed on the basis of the EPICS software environment.

Abstract

The authors describe the methods of pharmaceutical and criminalistics analysis that are finding the increasingly wider application for the drug expertise (identification) and elucidation of the circumstances conducive to the commission of an offence. The special emphasis is laid on the buprenorphine studies with the use of the colour chemical reactions, thin-layer chromatography, gas chromatographic analysis, high-performance liquid chromatography, IR spectrometry, and other modern techniques. The methods based on the recent achievements in pharmaceutical and criminalistics sciences can be employed in the activities intended to control the illegal drug circulation. Moreover, they may be of importance for obtaining valuable information about the actions of the persons involved in the trafficking or synthesis (production) of the prohibited substances after they are brought to criminal responsibility and/or appear before the court.Представлены фармакопейные и криминалистические техники, внедряемые в экспертизу наркотических средств (идентификация), выявление обстоятельств, способствовавших совершению преступления. Описаны методы исследования бупренорфина: цветные химические реакции, метод тонкослойной хроматографии, газовый хроматографический анализ, метод высокоэффективной жидкостной хроматографии, ИК-спектрометрия и др. Методика, основанная на достижениях фармацевтической и криминалистической наук, направлена на противодействие нелегальному обороту наркотиков, получение судом и следствием ценной информации о деятельности лиц, причастных к контрабанде запрещенных препаратов, хищению их, а также противозаконному синтезу (изготовление).

Abstract

Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the J / ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay J / ψ → γ η c as well as η c mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained Γ γ η c 0 = 2.98 ± 0.18 − 0.33 + 0.15 keV , M η c = 2983.5 ± 1.4 − 3.6 + 1.6 MeV / c 2 , Γ η c = 27.2 ± 3.1 − 2.6 + 5.4 MeV .

Abstract

The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the J / ψ meson has been measured using direct J / ψ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The result Γ e + e − ( J / ψ ) / Γ μ + μ − ( J / ψ ) = 1.0022 ± 0.0044 ± 0.0048 ( 0.65 % ) is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for J / ψ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.

A closed mathematical model of continuous spin detonation in a H2-O2 mixture with oxygen ejection from the environment has been developed. The model takes into account the inverse effect of pulsation processes in the combustor on oxygen ejection. A numerical study was performed for a 10 cm diameter ramjet annular combustor with geometric dimensions corresponding to experiments. One-wave modes of continuous spin detonation were calculated and the flow structure was analyzed with variation in the specific hydrogen flow rate from 3 to 3.75 kg/(s·m2). Decreasing the flow rate of ejected hydrogen during continuous detonation in the combustor is found to lead to a monotonic decrease in the detonation velocity, wave front height, average static pressure, and equivalence ratio, but to an increase in the oxygen ejection coefficient. The results are validated against experimental data.

Abstract

A mathematical model of continuous spin detonation for hydrogen-oxygen and hydrogen-air mixtures is developed within the framework of a nonstationary gas-dynamic formulation. An OpenFOAM package is used to carry out numerical calculations in an annular cylindrical combustor in order to compare the main solution parameters with experimental data for geometric dimensions of combustors 40 mm and 306 mm in diameter corresponding to the experiments for hydrogen-oxygen and hydrogen-air mixtures. Regimes with a single continuously rotating transversal detonation wave are obtained for given fuel mixtures. It is shown that the solution significantly depends on the coordinate along the radius. The results for the hydrogen-oxygen mixture are in good agreement with an experiment in terms of a wave velocity and satisfactory agreement relative to a front height and the number of waves (a 1.5- to 2-fold difference). The results for the hydrogen-air mixture are in satisfactory agreement with an experiment for the wave velocity and front height and significantly differ from it on a minimal flow rate of the mixture, in which the existence of continuous spin detonation is possible in the combustor.

Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we have determined the values of R at thirteen points of the center-of-mass energy between 1.84 and 3.05 GeV. The achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.9 % at most of the energy points with a systematic uncertainty less than 2.4 % .

Abstract

A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the ψ ( 2 S ) resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in three scans of the ψ ( 2 S ) – ψ ( 3770 ) energy range. Fitting the energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the ψ ( 2 S ) we obtained the mass value M = 3686.114 ± 0.007 ± 0.011 − 0.012 + 0.002 MeV and the product of the electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons Γ e e × B h = 2.233 ± 0.015 ± 0.037 ± 0.020 keV . The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third uncertainty quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the single-photon e + e − annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this work. Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments. Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the total width of the ψ ( 2 S ) : Γ e e = 2.282 ± 0.015 ± 0.038 ± 0.021 keV , Γ = 296 ± 2 ± 8 ± 3 keV . These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than any of the previous experiments.

Abstract

A mesokinetic model of the formation of a solid substance and the change in its properties under the action of factors that transform a substance into a functional material is proposed. Equations are introduced that represent the conditions of preservation of the number of molecules and particles of the substance during their nucleation, growth, and aggregation in supersaturated environments as well as during the ordering of the particles after the imposition of a temperature field and the introduction of additives. The equations describe the rate of change in the state distribution function of particles and can be reduced to the Liouville equation and the Fokker-Planck equation. The model contains unknown frequency functions subject to experimental determination. After these functions are determined, the model makes it possible to construct a methodological scheme for seeking the optimum route for the preparation of a new nanomaterial with desired properties.

Abstract

We report results of a search for narrow resonances in e + e − annihilation at center-of-mass energies between 1.85 and 3.1 GeV performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The upper limit on the leptonic width of a narrow resonance Γ e e R ⋅ Br ( R → h a d r ) 120 eV has been obtained (at 90% C.L.).

Abstract

We present a study of the inclusive photon spectrum from 6.3 million J/ψ decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of the radiative decay J/ψ → ηcγ, ηc width and mass. Taking into account an asymmetric photon line shape we obtain: Mηc = (2978.1 ± 1.4 ± 2.0) MeV/c2, Γηc = (43.5 ± 5.4 ± 15.8) MeV, [Formula: see text].

Abstract

The work analyzes the possibility of treating the production of a functional material as the realization of the stage of separation of the substance forming the material from a supersaturated medium and the stages of physical and chemical modification of the separated substance. The key kinetic equation of variation of the distribution function of states of the particles of the substance at each stage is formulated, considering the discrete nature of the nucleation, growth, and aggregation of particles. Solutions to continuous versions of the kinetic equation with regard to each stage are given. The conception of the path \( \vec Z(\vec g) \) of obtaining the material is introduced in the form of the coupling function of the target properties \( \vec Z \) of the compound with characteristics \( \vec g \)} of the reactors where the material is produced. The conditions are considered under which the path can be regarded as optimal at each stage, and the optimality criteria of the routes are introduced.

Abstract

We present a study of the inclusive photon spectra from 5.9 million J/psi decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of radiative decay J/psi to eta_c gamma, eta_c width and mass. Our preliminary results are: M(eta_c) = 2979.4+-1.5+-1.9 MeV, G(eta_c) = 27.8+-5.1+-3.3 MeV, B(J/psi to eta_c gamma) = (2.34+-0.15+-0.40)%.

Abstract

The products of the electron width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fraction of its decays to the lepton pairs were measured using data from the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The results are Γee×Γee/Γ=0.3323±0.0064(stat.)±0.0048(syst.) keV, Γee×Γμμ/Γ=0.3318±0.0052(stat.)±0.0063(syst.) keV. Their combinations Γee×(Γee+Γμμ)/Γ=0.6641±0.0082(stat.)±0.0100(syst.) keV, Γee/Γμμ=1.002±0.021(stat.)±0.013(syst.) can be used to improve the accuracy of the leptonic and full widths and test leptonic universality.

The masses of the neutral and charged D mesons have been measured with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider: M D 0 = 1865.30 ± 0.33 ± 0.23 MeV , M D + = 1869.53 ± 0.49 ± 0.20 MeV .

Abstract

The VEPP-4M accelerator facility with a universal KEDR detector is designed to conduct experiments with colliding electron-positron beams. High-energy physics, nuclear physics, and studies using synchrotron radiation are the main directions of research with this facility. In addition, experiments on poorly explored issues in the physics of beams in the electron-positron storage ring and methodological studies to prepare an experiment aimed at testing corollaries of the CPT theorem for an electron and a positron are regularly conducted at the VEPP-4 facility. A number of works performed in recent years are described: studies to increase the accuracy of comparing the electron and positron spin precession frequencies by the resonant depolarization method; measurements of the count rate of Touschek electrons as a function of the beam energy in a wide range; comparison of the methods for measuring the beam energy spread; a study of the electron beam dynamics when a nonlinear betatron resonance is crossed.

Abstract

The knowledge accumulated by chemical engineering makes it possible to create a methodology of the rational development of new science intensive technologies. One of the versions of such a methodology implies the formulation of principles and the revelation of methods for study, which shortens the way from the technological idea formation to its industrial implementation. This version implies passing from an a priori physicochemical model of phenomena which led to a technological idea to an a posteriori model of processes in industrial apparatuses where these phenomena should occur. In doing this, it seems expedient to combine numerical and real experiments with an iterative extension of the range of implementation conditions of phenomena from laboratory to industrial ones. The efficiency of such a methodological approach is evidenced by the experience of the development of the technology of an Ostim medicinal preparation.

41. Motion of agglomerates on the surface in the formation of methane hydrate crystals

Abstract

A study of the formation of a crystal hydrate film CH4 · 6H2O on the surface of an immobile solution of methane in water have shown that, at early stages of film formation, hydrate crystals and their agglomerates are in motion at a velocity of 2–5 mm/s caused by crystal growth. Collisions of agglomerates are accompanied by their rotations at a Ω ∼ 0.2–2 rad/s rate. The motion of crystals and agglomerates is explained using the hydrodynamic model that takes into account the surface tension and the difference in the pressure exerted by the medium on the growing and nongrowing faces of crystals, which sets them in chemoreactive motion.

Abstract

A precise τ lepton mass measurement performed at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the τ+τ− cross section behavior around the production threshold. The result based on 6.7 pb−1 of data is m τ = 1776.81 −0.23 +0.25 ± 0.15 MeV. Using 0.8 pb−1 of data collected at the ψ′ peak, we have also determined that Γ ee B ττ(ψ′) = 9.0 ± 2.6 eV.

Abstract

A procedure was developed for the IR-spectroscopic detection of α-aminopropiophenone and amphetamine in narcotic drugs prepared from phenylpropanolamine-containing medicines using sample preparation by liquid–liquid extraction. Extraction conditions were selected using the computation of physicochemical parameters of the analytes. The procedure is simple, inexpensive, and can be used in combination with other chemical and physicochemical methods for the expert analysis of narcotic drugs.

Abstract

The use of retention time locking (RTL) in the development of unified procedures for the detection and quantitative determination of drugs in biological fluids was considered. With consideration for the use of RTL, a chromatographic procedure with flame-ionization and mass-selective detection was developed for the detection and quantitative determination of opiates and their synthetic analogs; phenylalkylamine derivatives; cocaine; ketamine; and other narcotic drugs, their derivatives, and metabolites in urine. The analytical ranges for chromatography–mass spectrometry were 0.05–1000 and 0.005–1000 μg/mL under the conditions of total ion current (TIC) scanning and selected ion monitoring (SIM), respectively. With flame-ionization detection (GC–FID), the analytical range was 0.5–1000 μg/mL.

Abstract

An experiment, using the new detector Kedr, on the precise measurement of the τ-lepton mass is being readied on the VEPP-4M. The resonance depolarization method is used for absolute calibration of the particle energy. The main difficulty in using a polarized beam at the τ-lepton production threshold (1777 MeV) is the closeness of an integral spin resonance (1763 MeV). Experiments observing the polarization of particles in VEPP-4M after injection of the polarized beam from the VEPP-3 storage booster with different detunings from resonance have been performed. For comparison, the depolarization time of a beam due to quantum fluctuations in the presence of characteristic disturbances of the guiding field is calculated. The temporal stability of the energy indications is studied.
