1. Radiation hardness of silicon semiconductor detectors under irradiation with fission products of 252Cf nuclide

Abstract

The influence of the prolonged irradiation by fission products of 252Cf radionuclide on the operational parameters of silicon-lithium Si(Li) p-i-n detectors, Si surface barrier detectors and Si planar p+n detector was investigated. The obtained results revealed a linear shift of the fission fragment peaks positions towards the lower energies with increase of the irradiation dose for all investigated detectors. The rate of the peaks shift was found to depend strongly on the detector type and the strength of the electric field in the detector’s active region, but not on the temperature of irradiation (room or liquid nitrogen temperature). Based on the obtained results, the possibility of integration of the investigated types of Si semiconductor detectors in a radionuclide neutron calibration source is considered., Исследовалось влияние длительного облучения продуктами деления радионуклида 252Cf на параметры работы кремний-литиевых Si(Li) p-i-n детекторов, Si поверхностно-барьерных детекторов и Si планарного p+n детектора. Для всех исследованных типов детекторов был обнаружен линейный сдвиг положения пиков осколков деления в сторону меньших энергий с увеличением дозы облучения. Установлено, что скорость смещения пиков сильно зависит от типа детектора и напряженности электрического поля в активной области детектора, но не от температуры облучения (комнатная или температура жидкого азота). На основании полученных результатов рассматривается возможность применения исследованных детекторов в составе радиоизотопного калибровочного источника нейтронов.

Abstract

A search for resonant excitation of first nuclear level of 83Kr nucleus at 9.4 keV by solar axion fluxes that depend on axion-electron coupling constant gAe have been performed. The search was carried out via gaseous proportional counter that was installed in a low- background experimental setup located at underground facility of Baksan Neutrino Observatory (INR RAS). The measurement yielded new limit on axion-electron coupling constant and axion mass |gAe mA| ≤ 1.33∙10^-9 eV., Проведен поиск резонансного возбуждения первого ядерного уровня нуклида 83Kr с энергией 9.4 кэВ потоком солнечных аксионов, образующихся за счет предполагаемого аксион-электронного взаимодействия. Измерения проводились с помощью газонаполненного пропорционального счетчика, установленного в низкофоновой подземной лаборатории Баксанской нейтринной обсерватории (ИЯИ РАН). В результате было получено новое ограничение на константу связи аксиона с электронами и массу аксиона |gAe mA| ≤ 1.33∙10^-9 эВ.

Abstract

Solar neutrinos have played a central role in the discovery of the neutrino oscillation mechanism. They still are proving to be a unique tool to help investigate the fusion reactions that power stars and further probe basic neutrino properties. The Borexino neutrino observatory has been operationally acquiring data at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy since 2007. Its main goal is the real-time study of low energy neutrinos (solar or originated elsewhere, such as geo-neutrinos). The latest analysis of experimental data, taken during the so-called Borexino Phase-II (2011-present), will be showcased in this talk—yielding new high-precision, simultaneous wide band flux measurements of the four main solar neutrino components belonging to the “pp” fusion chain (pp, pep, 7 Be, 8 B), as well as upper limits on the remaining two solar neutrino fluxes (CNO and hep). 4. Measurement Of $^{144}\Rm{Ce}$ - $^{144}\Rm{Pr}$ Beta-Spectra With Si(Li) Detectors For The Purpose Of Determining The Spectra Of Electron Antineutrinos

Unzhakov St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”, Gatchina, Russia The specifications of a newly developed beta-spectrometer, based on full absorption Si(Li) detector and thin transmission detector, are shown. The spectrometer allows to separate effectively beta-radiation and accompanying X-rays and gamma radiation using registration of coincident events from both detectors. The spectrometer can be used for precision measurements of various beta-spectra, namely for the beta-spectrum shape study of 144Pr ^{144}\rm{Pr} , which is considered to be an advantageous anti-neutrino source for sterile neutrino searches. The preliminary results for beta spectra from 144Ce−144Pr ^{144}\rm{Ce}-^{144}\rm{Pr} decays and reconstructed antineutrino spectra are presented.

5. Search for resonant absorption of solar axions by $^{83}\rm{Kr}$ nuclei

Yakimenko A search for resonant absorption of the solar axions with a wide continuous spectra by $^{83}\rm{Kr}$ nuclei is continued with the krypton proportional counter at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory. Such an absorption should lead to the excitation of low-lying nuclear energy level of $^{83}\rm{Kr}$. The results obtained after 613 days of measurements allow to constraint on the axion–photon coupling and axion mass $|g_{A\gamma}\times m_A| \leq 6.26\times 10^{-17}$ for Primakoff solar axions. This bound corresponds to the upper limit on KSVZ axion mass $m_{A}\leq12.7$ eV. For solar axions produced by Compton and bremsstrahlung like processes the limit on axion-electron coupling and KSVZ axion mass are $|g_{Ae}\times m_A| \leq 1.38\times 10^{-9}$~eV and $m_A \leq 86$ eV, correspondingly (all at 95\% C.L.).

Abstract

Geo-neutrinos, electron anti-neutrinos produced in beta-decays of naturally occurring radioactive isotopes in the Earth, are a unique direct probe of our planet's interior. After a brief introduction of the geo-neutrinos' properties and of the main aims of their study, we discuss the features of a detector which has recently provided breakthrough achievements in the field, Borexino, a massive, calorimetric liquid scintillator detector installed at the underground Gran Sasso Laboratory. With its unprecedented radiopurity levels achieved in the core of the detection medium, it is the only experiment in operation able to study in real time solar neutrino interactions in the challenging sub-MeV energy region. Its superior technical properties allowed Borexino also to provide a clean detection of terrestrial neutrinos. Therefore, the description of the characteristics of the detected geo-neutrino signal and of the corresponding geological implications are the main core of the discussion contained in this work.
