Abstract: National audience; Des chercheurs de l’Observatoire Hommes-Milieux Vallée du Rhône (CNRS-INEE) ont travaillé en 2017-2018 sur la bancarisation et la visualisation de ressources biophysiques historiques sur le fleuve Rhône. Ce projet interdisciplinaire, associant des géographes et des écologues, a consisté à prospecter des services d’archives encore peu explorés afin d’améliorer la connaissance du fonctionnement biophysique du fleuve, notamment avant les grandes transformations liées à l’aménagement hydraulique du Rhône (pré-1850).Une base de données contenant 350 cartes, plans et relevés topographiques issus de 14 services d’archives institutionnels, départementaux et nationaux a été compilée sur l’ensemble du Rhône français (530 km de long), du 17e au milieu du 20e siècle. Cette base de données augmente substantiellement le nombre de cartes déjà collectées dans les précédents programmes de recherche, elle couvre une plus longue période et devrait permettre des analyses spatio-temporelles plus détaillées. Elle offre ainsi la possibilité d’affiner la connaissance de la trajectoire socio-environnementale du Rhône grâce à l’étude de l’évolution des différents compartiments de la plaine alluviale, par exemple la morphologie des chenaux en eau, la végétation riveraine ou encore les éléments anthropiques (bâti, routes, rail, ouvrages hydrauliques).Afin de valoriser la base de données et la rendre accessible au plus grand nombre, l’idée d’un data paper a émergé à la fin du projet. Cette communication propose de revenir sur les différentes étapes de son élaboration : choix de la revue, choix de l’entrepôt de données, gestion des différentes politiques de réutilisation des données d’archives, préparation des données, rédaction, réflexion sur la section Data use and application du manuscrit, soumission, révision publique. L’article publié dans Earth System Science Data en 2021 est le premier data paper en SHS de l’OHM Vallée du Rhône.

Présentation de 25 ans de données du projet ThEMA dans un data paperThesaurus Exemplorum Medii Aevi (ThEMA) est une base de données collaborative sur les exempla médiévaux.Les sermons médiévaux renferment des milliers d’exempla, ou histoires exemplaires, souvent utilisés pourtransmettre doctrine et morale religieuses aux fidèles. Longtemps considérés comme une part négligeable destextes dogmatiques et moraux, ils sont désormais aussi approchés comme sources culturelles et historiques.Développée par l’historien Jacques Le Goff et ses héritiers, ThEMA comporte actuellement plus de 12 000 exem-pla indexés couvrant un long Moyen Âge s’étendant de l’Europe latine à Byzance et l’Asie, provenant de sourceschrétiennes, juives, islamiques et bouddhistes. La conversion au format XML-TEI et l’engagement vers des « FAIRdata » permettent un usage élargi des données.

Abstract: International audience; Food has become a social issue. Developing a healthy relationship with food is a complex process as it implies a behaviour change. At first sight, recent advances in recommender system domain ensure personalised service and assistance of a user in decision-making process. However, traditional recommender systems lack the consideration of health-related factors (e.g., healthy diet guidelines, foodallergies, etc.). Moreover, instead of recommending a new item (recipe), an effective system should apply persuasion strategies to accompany a user in a long process, a little step at a time. Furthermore, most of existing recommender models do not take privacy preservation into account. In this position paper, we outline the challenges faced by a persuasive system for promoting eating habits and discuss our vision on the implementation of adaptive and privacy-aware persuasive strategies for healthy food promotion.

Abstract: Research assessment reform is crucial for the social sustainability of research infrastructures (RIs): RIs can only thrive in the long term if the researchers who contribute to their development and growth receive academic credit for the kind of work they do in and around research infrastructures. To put it bluntly, research infrastructures have a vested interest in supporting the reform of research assessment. But, conversely, ongoing attempts to reform research assessment can also benefit from the work of research infrastructures because RIs have a great deal of experience creating and maintaining public services for producing, curating and harvesting both traditional and non-traditional academic outputs. The goal of this paper is to outline DARIAH’s position on the importance of research assessment reform for thematic RIs and the importance of thematic RIs for research assessment reform at the European level.

Abstract: What challenges does international law face in dealing with the ecological crisis? Can the actors, the rules, the tools for implementing international law evolve to contribute effectively to the resolution of socio-environmental problems? In order to respond to the ambitious command of the International Law Association to the Working Groups, the group that drafted the White paper on Anthropocene, coordinated by Sandrine Maljean-Dubois, undertook a very useful exercise in anticipation. While international law has a role to play, we cannot expect everything from it. It is not so much a revolution in values as a multiplication of changes in governance practices that could lead to the timely consideration of ecological preservation through international law.; À quels défis le droit international est-il confronté pour faire face à la crise écologique ? Les acteurs, les règles, les outils de mise en œuvre du droit international peuvent-ils évoluer pour contribuer efficacement à la résolution des problèmes socio-environnementaux ? Pour répondre à la commande ambitieuse de l’Association de Droit International aux groupes de travail sur le droit international de demain, l’équipe de rédaction du Livre Blanc sur l’anthropocène, coordonnée par Sandrine Maljean-Dubois, s’est livrée à un exercice d’anticipation fort utile. Si le droit international a un rôle à jouer, on ne peut pas tout en attendre. C’est moins une révolution des valeurs qu’une multiplication de changements de pratiques en matière de gouvernance, qui pourront conduire à une prise en compte, en temps utile, de la préservation écologique par le droit international.

Abstract: Analysing the available data relative to the anisotropies of the ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECR) at intermediate angular scales, we examine to what extent they can be used to constrain the origin of these particles, and what could be gained from a new generation of observatories with increased exposure. We simulate realistic UHECR sky maps for a wide range of scenarios, with the assumption that the distribution of UHECR sources follows that of matter in the Universe, also considering possible biases. We produce numerous datasets on which we apply similar analyses as those recently used by the Auger and TA collaborations. We find that: i) the investigated scenarios can easily account for the significance of the anisotropies reported by Auger and TA; ii) the direction in which the maximum flux excess is found in the Auger data differs from where it is found in most of our simulations; iii) for datasets simulated with the same astrophysical scenario, the significance with which the isotropy hypothesis is rejected through the Auger likelihood analysis can be largest either when "all galaxies" or when "starburst" galaxies are used to model the signal, depending on which GMF model is used; iv) the study of the energy evolution of the anisotropy patterns can provide new insight about the origin of UHECRs; v) the direction in which the most significant flux excess is found in the Auger dataset above 8 EeV appears to essentially disappear in the dataset above 32 EeV; vi) this appears to be very uncommon in our simulations, which could point to a failure of some generic assumption in the investigated scenarios, such as the predominance of a unique type of sources in the flux above the ankle, with essentially the same composition and spectrum; vii) a meaningful measurement of their energy evolution, from 10 EeV to the highest energies, will require a significant increase in statistics., Comment: 28 pages, 23 figures

Abstract: In 1923, the Philosophical Transactions published G. I. Taylor’s seminal paper on the stability of what we now call Taylor–Couette flow. In the century since the paper was published, Taylor’s ground-breaking linear stability analysis of fluid flow between two rotating cylinders has had an enormous impact on the field of fluid mechanics. The paper’s influence has extended to general rotating flows, geophysical flows and astrophysical flows, not to mention its significance in firmly establishing several foundational concepts in fluid mechanics that are now broadly accepted. This two-part issue includes review articles and research articles spanning a broad range of contemporary research areas, all rooted in Taylor’s landmark paper. This article is part of the theme issue ‘Taylor–Couette and related flows on the centennial of Taylor’s seminal Philosophical Transactions paper (part 1)’.

Abstract: Recent empirical analysis of income distributions are often limited by the exclusive availability of data in a grouped format. This data format is made particularly restrictive by a lack of information on the underlying grouping mechanism and sampling variability of the grouped-data statistics it contains. These restrictions often result in the unavailability of an analytical parametric likelihood function exploiting all information available in the grouped data. Building on recent methods for inference on parametric income distributions for this type of data, this paper explores a new Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC) approach. ABC overcomes the restrictions posed by grouped data for Bayesian inference through a non-parametric approximation of the likelihood function exploiting simulated data from the income distribution model. Empirical applications of the proposed ABC method in both simulated and World Bank's PovCalNet data illustrate the performance and suitability of the method for the typical formats of grouped data on incomes.

Abstract: Since its discovery in 1987, the monumental basin of Bibracte questions archeologists because of its atypical orientation that was thought not to follow the way on which it lies. We study 4 archeoastronomical papers dealing with the orientation of the short and long axes on the sun rise at winter solstice or on peculiar stars and we discuss the validity of these hypotheses., Depuis sa découverte en 1987, le bassin monumental du site archéologique de Bibracte interroge les archéologues de par son orientation atypique dont on pensait qu'elle ne suivait pas la voie sur laquelle il est sis. Nous étudions 4 publications archéoastronomiques traitant de l'orientation du petit axe et du grand axe sur le lever du Soleil au solstice d'hiver ou sur des étoiles particulières et nous discutons la validité de ces hypothèses.

Abstract: Témoignant du peu de travaux ethnographiques et historiques publiés au sujet du démariage en Ouzbékistan lors des dernières décennies, ce working paper interroge l’hypothèse selon laquelle l’accroissement des démariages répondrait principalement à l’individualisme et à la redéfinition des attentes affectives et conjugales de la jeunesse dans un contexte de libéralisation des pratiques économiques. Revenant sur le cadre juridique islamique qui présidait aux ruptures conjugales jusqu’aux deux premières décennies du XXe s, il expose certains enjeux économiques du démariage et retrace les transformations du marché matrimonial ouzbek aux ères soviétique et post-soviétique. Présentant le démariage comme une fenêtre pour étudier le devenir des pratiques de consommation, des liens de parenté, des émotions et de la sexualité des Ouzbeks, il donne un court aperçu de ma démarche ethnographique.

Abstract: Nous retracerons ici les principales orientations de l’action publique introduite ci-dessus tout en se focalisant plus en détail sur les modes de régulation des circuits de financement de l’immobilier locatif. On s’attachera ici à mettre en perspective les politiques publiques introduites depuis 2015 avec leurs effets (potentiels, attribués et réels) sur les quatre circuits de financement distingués dans des travaux antérieurs : financiarisé, défiscalisé, intermédiaire et social (Halbert, 2018). Cette mise en perspective consistera notamment à examiner si l’action publique menée durant les six dernières années constitue une « accélération des tendances anciennes » (Driant, 2020) comme le retrait étatique du financement du logement social (Pollard, 2018) avec un approfondissement de la dépendance des politiques du logement social aux mécanismes de valorisation foncière et immobilière (Gimat et Halbert). Par ailleurs, ce working paper met en lumière les dynamiques relatives à trois idées ayant fait l’objet d’une attention particulière des acteurs des politiques publiques du logement depuis 2015.

Abstract: International audience; We use the focused proof system LJF as a framework for describing term structures and substitution. Since the proof theory of LJF does not pick a canonical polarization for primitive types, two different approaches to term representation arise. When primitive types are given the negative polarity, LJF proofs encode terms as tree-like structures in a familiar fashion. In this situation, cut elimination also yields the familiar notion of substitution. On the other hand, when primitive types are given the positive polarity, LJF proofs yield a structure in which explicit sharing of term structures is possible. Such a representation of terms provides an explicit method for sharing term structures. In this setting, cut elimination yields a different notion of substitution. We illustrate these two approaches to term representation by applying them to the encoding of untyped λ-terms. We also exploit concurrency theory techniques-namely traces and simulation-to compare untyped λ-terms using such different structuring disciplines.

Abstract: Electron Ion Collider (EIC) is a particle accelerator facility planned for construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York by the United States Department of Energy. EIC will provide capabilities of colliding beams of polarized electrons with polarized beams of proton and light ions. EIC will be one of the largest and most sophisticated new accelerator facilities worldwide, and the only new large-scale accelerator facility planned for construction in the United States in the next few decades. The versatility, resolving power and intensity of EIC will present many new opportunities to address some of the crucial and fundamental open scientific questions in particle physics. An Earth challenged by habitability. University and the Challenges of Earth Knowledge, a strategic positioning text, defines its research agenda for the years to come and gives concrete expression to these three years of interdisciplinary dialogue.

Abstract: International audience; Dans un cahier exécutable, nous décrivions les données produites par une série d’outils adaptables construits pour retrouver les mots employés dans une page d’un site web. Pour dépasser à terme les techniques de référencement actuelles, l’objectif était de disposer d’un instrument capable de réduire les contenus textuels d’une page web, expurgée des balises HTML et codes informatiques, en un lexique afin de pouvoir saisir le sens global porté par la page. Pour apporter une finesse sémantique, le lexique est lemmatisé et séparé selon les catégories grammaticales (verbe : actions, nom : champ nominal, adjectifs et adverbes : intensité, temporalité, etc.). Les ensembles de données obtenues sont alors combinés pour être représentés en nuages de mots paramétrables afin d’accompagner une lecture distante. Les données collectées dans l’environnement web du Parc National de Port-Cros, sont agrégées selon une typologie de sites. Les traitements et représentations montrent l’intérêt et la pertinence de cette instrumentation pour comparer les lexiques véhiculés par des pages. La sauvegarde de ces extractions ainsi que toute la chaîne de production est d’intérêt autant pour des travaux en continuité que pour les reproduire dans un cadre pédagogique.

Abstract: To improve reliability in latency-critical applications, a point-to-point communication system with heterogeneous decoding deadlines is considered. Unlike existing work, this system allows for a message to arrive before the decoding deadline of a prior message. A new coding scheme with finite blocklength codewords is introduced exploiting the dirty paper coding principle. Rigorous bounds are derived for achievable error probabilities. Moreover, numerical results illustrate that the proposed scheme outperforms time sharing for a wide range of blocklengths.

Abstract: International audience; The International Symposium on Andean Geodynamics (ISAG) is an international conference that was held, on average, every 3-4 years in different European cities between 1990 (Grenoble) and 2008 (Nice). These symposia usually offer an opportunity for researchers from Latin American countries and Europe as well as other countries to review the state of knowledge in geosciences on the Andes. After a long period without an edition, the 8th ISAG was organized for the first time in a Latin American country, Ecuador, from 24th to 26th September 2019. The organizing committee led by Pablo Samaniego relied heavily on the Instituto Geofísico of the Escuela Politécnica Nacional (IG-EPN) and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), in particular through its office in Quito, and through the Laboratoire Mixte International in France and Ecuador: "Seismes et Volcans dans les Andes du Nord" (LMI-SVAN); and the French Embassy in Ecuador. Field trips in tectonics, seismotectonics and volcanology at emblematic sites in Ecuador were organized by researchers from the IRD (Isterre and LMV), the Institut de Radio Protection Nucléaire (IRSN), IG-EPN and the University of Geneva. Four invited speakers gave presentations: Peter Molnar (University of Boulder) on the mechanisms of the Andes uplift, Suzanne Kay (Cornell University) on its magmatism, Victor Ramos (University of Buenos Aires) on the scientific approaches developed through time for the Andean orogeny and Eric Calais (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris) on the difficulty of dialog between seismic risk specialists and the authorities in Haiti. The symposium also provided an opportunity for more than 250 participants to meet, with more than 80 oral presentations and over 150 posters. As a result of this conference, the Editor of the Journal of South American Earth Sciences proposed to the organizing committee to publish a special issue on the contours of these presentations. Following the peer review process, 19 papers are published in this special issue. These manuscripts reflect the various disciplinary fields, geophysics and deep imaging, tectonics, volcanism, geomorphology and seismic hazard, from the local scale to the Andes as a whole. Not surprisingly, a higher density of works is found in Ecuador and the northern Andes (Figure 1). As this collection of articles reflects the outlines of a symposium and not a specific scientific question, our aim here is not to develop a synthesis of current knowledge on the Andes. We therefore present these articles in sequence, by discipline, although this categorization may appear subjective since some articles are multidisciplinary.

Abstract: National audience; La communication investit la question des pratiques de citation des data papers en archéologie à travers le cas d’étude du Journal of Open Archaeology Data. En ciblant les auteurs ayant cité un des data papers de la revue, l’approche choisie d’une enquête par questionnaire permet de révéler leurs motivations. A partir des réponses de 19 auteurs, l’enquête montre que la citation des data papers en archéologie est le fruit de chercheurs sensibles à l’ouverture des résultats de la science et s’inscrit dans un contexte d’émergence de ce nouveau type de publication. Souvent cité à la place du jeu de données, le data paper est perçu à la fois comme un point d’entrée vers celui-ci et comme un moyen de délester l’article de recherche d’une partie méthodologique sur le processus de collecte des données. Ces résultats révèlent donc une utilisation du data paper dans les pratiques de citation comme document situé à l’articulation entre données et article de recherche.

Abstract: International audience; Extracellular vesicles (EV) are emergent therapeutic effectors that have reached clinical trial investigation. To translate EV-based therapeutic to clinic, the challenge is to demonstrate quality, safety, and efficacy, as required for any medicinal product. EV research translation into medicinal products is an exciting and challenging perspective. Recent papers, provide important guidance on regulatory aspects of pharmaceutical development, defining EVs for therapeutic applications and critical considerations for the development of potency tests. In addition, the ISEV Task Force on Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Use of EV-based Therapeutics as well as the Exosomes Committee from the ISCT are expected to contribute in an active way to the development of EV-based medicinal products by providing update on the scientific progress in EVs field, information to patients and expert resource network for regulatory bodies. The contribution of our work group "Extracellular Vesicle translatiOn to clinicaL perspectiVEs - EVOLVE France", created in 2020, can be positioned in complement to all these important initiatives. Based on complementary scientific, technical, and medical expertise, we provide EV-specific recommendations for manufacturing, quality control, analytics, non-clinical development, and clinical trials, according to current European legislation. We especially focus on early phase clinical trials concerning immediate needs in the field. The main contents of the investigational medicinal product dossier, marketing authorization applications, and critical guideline information are outlined for the transition from research to clinical development and ultimate market authorization.

26. Kaluza-Klein Dimensional Reduction From Elasticity Theory of Crumpled Paper

Abstract: During the last century, two independent theories using the concept of dimensional reduction have been developed independently. The first, known as F\"oppl-von K\`arm\`an theory, uses Riemannian geometry and continuum mechanics to study the shaping of thin elastic structures which could become as complex as crumpled paper. The second one, known as Kaluza-Klein theory, uses Minkowskian geometry and general relativity to unify fundamental interactions and gravity under the same formalism. Here we draw a parallel between these two theories in an attempt to use concepts from elasticity theory of plates to recover the Einstein-Maxwell equations. We argue that Kaluza-Klein theory belongs to the same conceptual group of theories as three-dimensional elasticity, which upon dimensional reduction leads to the F\"oppl-von K\`arm\`an theory of two-dimensional elastic plates. We exploit this analogy to develop an alternative Kaluza-Klein formalism in the framework of elasticity theory in which the gravitational and electromagnetic fields are respectively associated with stretching-like and bending-like deformations. We show that our approach of dimensional reduction allows us to retrieve the Lagrangian densities of both gravitational, electromagnetic and Dirac spinors fields as well as the Lagrangian densities of mass and charge sources.

Abstract: International audience; Small cell densification is recognized as one of the most significant characteristics in the fifth-generation of communication systems (5G) and beyond. A substantial capacity boost can be achieved at a low cost by supplementing macro networks with numerous small cells to create ultra-dense heterogeneous networks, which can serve as the foundation for the next generation of services. In this paper, we investigate a model that accounts for the location and channel quality of an enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) user as well as the locations, density, and energy levels of a large number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. More specifically, the eMBB user is randomly distributed in the coverage area of the MBS, and given its channel gain, it adjusts its transmit power to achieve an acceptable Quality of Service (QoS). In contrast, the IoT devices are gathered around SBS and regulate their transmission power in accordance with their energy budget to minimize energy-efficient utility function. Due to the coupling, the Stackelberg-Nash differential game is initially used to model the power allocation problem, with the eMBB user playing the role of the leader and the IoT devices playing the role of the followers. Then, we use the mean-field approximation to construct a hierarchical mean-field game from which we can recover a set of equations that may be solved iteratively to provide the optimal power allocation strategies. Simulation results illustrate the optimal power allocation strategies and show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract: International audience; The design and development of new network protocols, architectures, and technologies require an evaluation phase where the researcher must provide empirical evidence for the performance of their contributions. In this context, network emulation has proven to be an attractive approach as it offers more flexibility compared to traditional testing platforms, and more realism compared to simulation software. However, as emulation requires running multiple concurrent virtual network components on a limited amount of resources, it faces welldocumented limitations in its scalability and accuracy. Our work is an attempt to address these issues by developing a lightweight and highly scalable distributed emulator, and by designing a framework for fidelity monitoring through passive measurement of emulated packet delays. The preliminary evaluation shows promising results and demonstrates the high potential of our approach.

Abstract: International audience; New cellular technologies combine complex software stacks and heterogeneous hardware. As a result, even if models and simulators are still essential to understand them, validation must go to the next level and rely on real software and hardware testbeds. Unfortunately, building comprehensive testbeds is expensive and this is why we propose the Sophianode, a cloud-native cellular network testbed accessible to the community. In this demonstration, we show how to run arbitrary *G experiments in this testbed by following DevOps techniques.

Abstract: International audience; IntroductionDifférentes cohortes et registres montrent que les patients avec une suppléance rénale sont majoritairement des hommes alors que les femmes sont prédominantes aux stades 3 et plus. Une des hypothèses testées dans cette étude est que l’orientation vers la suppléance ou le traitement conservateur serait différent selon le sexe et les comorbidités.Description/méthodesLe projet thérapeutique et les comorbidités des nouveaux insuffisants rénaux en stade 4 et stade 5 non suppléés en Bretagne entre 2019 et 2021 ont été obtenus à partir du registre Breizh IRC 5.RésultatsAu total, 1627 patients ont été inclus dont 1050 en stade 4 (421 femmes et 629 hommes) et 577 en stade 5 (219 femmes et 358 hommes). Parmi les patients du stade 5, les femmes sont plus âgées que les hommes (71,9 contre 69,9 ans), plus souvent dépendantes pour la marche (18 % contre 5 %) et seules à domicile (38 % contre 24 %). Dans les analyses univariées, la probabilité d’être orienté vers un traitement conservateur initialement et à la dernière consultation renseignée est plus grande chez les femmes par rapport aux hommes (OR respectivement OR = 2, IC95 % = 1,2–3,5 et OR = 2,1, IC95 % = 1,2–3,9). Parmi les patients du stade 4, la probabilité d’avoir un projet thérapeutique non fixé initialement et à la dernière consultation renseignée est plus élevée chez les femmes par rapport aux hommes (OR respectivement OR = 1,8, IC95 % = 1,3–2,4 et OR = 1,5, IC95 % = 1,1–2,1). Les analyses multivariées sont en cours.ConclusionLes premiers résultats en analyse univariée montrent que le sexe féminin est associé à une moindre orientation vers la suppléance au bénéfice du traitement conservateur. La richesse du registre Breizh IRC 5 et des modèles multivariés permettront l’analyse des choix thérapeutiques en tenant compte de toutes les caractéristiques disponibles des patients.

Abstract: International audience; Introduction :L’impact du parcours de soins pré-dialyse sur le devenir post-dialyse est peu étudié. L’objectif était d’étudier la survie et l’accès à la greffe post-dialyse en tenant compte des parcours de soins pré-dialyse.Description/méthodes :Les données relatives aux patients adultes ayant démarré la dialyse en France en 2015 ont été extraites du registre REIN et celles de parcours de soins dans l’année pré-dialyse du Système National des Données de Santé (SNDS). Le modèle de Cox a été utilisé pour étudier la survie et l’accès à la greffe.Résultats :Au total, 8856 patients ont été inclus. Le risque de décès (à 6 mois, 1 an et 3 ans) est plus faible pour les patients ayant consulté un néphrologue plus d’une fois dans les 6 mois pré-dialyse comparés à ceux qui consultent qu’une seule fois. La probabilité d’être inscrit sur la liste d’attente (HR = 1,3, 95 % CI = 1,1–1,5 à 1 an et HR = 1,2, 95 % CI = 1,1–1,4 à 3 ans) et d’être greffé (HR = 1,8, 95 % CI = 1,2–2,6 à 1 an et HR = 1,3, 95 % CI = 1,1–1,5 à 3 ans) est plus élevée pour les patients ayant consulté plus de 3 fois leur néphrologue dans l’année pré-dialyse comparés à ceux qui consultent qu’une seule fois.La survie (à 6 mois, 1 an et 3 ans) est plus faible pour les patients ayant démarré une dialyse en urgence (avec ou sans cathéter) ou programmée avec cathéter comparé aux patients démarrant une dialyse programmée sur fistule.Conclusion : Le suivi néphrologique dans l’année précédant le démarrage de la dialyse est associé à une meilleure survie et un meilleur accès à la greffe post-dialyse. Comparés aux patients qui démarrent une dialyse programmée sur fistule, les autres patients ont une moins bonne survie et une moindre probabilité d’accès à la greffe. Ces résultats montrent l’importance de l’adressage précoce des patients aux néphrologues par les médecins généralistes.

Abstract: International audience; In the last forty years Sahel has been depicted as a region in permanent 'crisis', environmental in the following of the 1970-80's droughts and security-driven with reference to the widespread insurgencies of the last decade. Within these frameworks, the notion of 'crisis' has been mobilized in a poorly analytical but highly performative way. Along with all-encompassing explanations like 'farmer-herder' conflict for scarce resources as well as religious radicalization driven by international jihadism, it has been used to justify a revival of problematic approaches and solutions. These dominant narratives depoliticise Sahelian societies and the historical and contemporary effects of development intervention on the society-environment relations. Building on a systemic approach (Morin), this communication proposes to consider the current situation in the light of a 'crisis' of development, here intended as a specific form of public action 'under aid-regime' characterised by high levels of extraversion and complexity. 'Crisis' takes here the meaning of a turning-point where political and social critiques leading to multiple forms of active contestation become major trends that affect the whole system and produce significant changes. Drawing from a scientific literature review and an empirical research on vernacular perceptions of 'security crisis' in Burkina Faso (2019-20), the communication shall highlight through several examples how insurgencies embody contestation of agricultural and environmental development and of its effects on peasant and pastoral moral economies (i.e. long-term ill-adaptation of conceptual models and policy, extraversion and local power relationships…). The case of Burkina Faso is illustrative of the scarce visibility in public debates of heterodox analysis and political solutions based on social equality, entitlements and rebalancing of power relationships. In conclusion, different potentially 'regressive' or 'progressive' scenarios of change at the interplay of international, national and local scales will be discussed.

Abstract: Best paper award; International audience; The problem of maximizing total early work in a two-machine flow-shop is known to be NP-hard, for which an O(n²d²) dynamic program and an O(n⁴⁄ε²) FPTAS exist in the literature. In this paper, we present new optimality properties, which pave the base for an O(nd²) time dynamic programming algorithm and an O(n³⁄ε²) time FPTAS. We further generalize the problem to a distributed flow shop consisting of m parallel two-machine flow-shops. We develop an O(mn(2d)³m) time dynamic programming algorithm and an O(mn(4n/∈)³m time FPTAS.

Abstract: EconomiX Working Paper 2022/11; Surprisingly Simon's activities at the Cowles commission remain largely unexplored; while Simon and the Cowles shared a twofold wish to operationalize economics and to formalize human decision making. This is also during his time at the Cowles commission that Simon produces his emblematic paper formalizing bounded rationality. Furthermore, Simon claims that his participation at the Cowles was decisive in his awarding of the Nobel Prize. The aim of the paper is to produce such scrutiny. As such the claim of the paper is that Simon's relationship with the Cowles commission and its members was a bittersweet one. Indeed, such a collaboration started enthusiastically from both sides and ended surrounded by indifferences. We offer three explanations to this bittersweet relationship. First, both the Cowles and Simon shared a wish to formalize decision making problems; although, they had different conceptions about mathematical tools and the articulation between theory and empirics. Second, the irreconcilability of their conception of optimality threatened their common interest in operational research. Third, and more globally, Simon's and the Cowles's research agendas were not stabilized during this period explaining the enthusiastic phase as well as the cold one, once these two research agendas stabilized, but in different directions. The paper distinguishes four periods from 1947 to 1954 during Simon's time at the Cowles. Each section of the paper deals in turn with one of these four periods.

Abstract: International audience; Ultrasonic welding is a serious candidate in the development of methods to assemble papers and paperboards without using additional substances. However, the ultrasonic welding of papers remains a technological challenge considering the low weldability of lignocellulosic materials. This study aims to investigate on the ultrasonic welding process applied to papers in order to identify the processing conditions which favor the formation of strong welded joints. To reach such purpose, an experimental strategy was developed by combining the characterization of welded materials and the monitoring of process parameters. Experimentations were performed using a reference paper displaying a good weldability to specifically highlight the contribution of process parameters. Results indicate that the process is highly sensitive to vibration amplitude, power supplied by the high frequency generator, and sample thickness. Power seems to be a reliable indicator of the severity of the process. A strong decrease in the strength of the welded joints is observed when working with low thicknesses. It seems that the layers coated on top of papers are the main part of the material contributing in the development of adhesion at the welding joint. Overall, instrumenting the device has led to a better understanding of the ultrasonic welding of papers.

Abstract: International audience; This paper focuses on the problem of the hierarchical multi‐label classification of research papers, which is the task of assigning the set of relevant labels for a paper from a hierarchy, using reduced amounts of labelled training data. Specifically, we study leveraging unlabelled data, which are usually plentiful and easy to collect, in addition to the few available labelled ones in a semi‐supervised learning framework for achieving better performance results. Thus, in this paper, we propose a semi‐supervised approach for the hierarchical multi‐label classification task of research papers based on the well‐known Co‐training algorithm, which exploit content and bibliographic coupling information as two distinct papers' views. In our approach, two hierarchical multi‐label classifiers, are learnt on different views of the labelled data, and iteratively select their most confident unlabelled samples, which are further added to the labelled set. The success of our suggested Co‐training‐based approach lies in two main components. The first is the use of two suggested selection criteria (i.e., Maximum Agreement and Labels Cardinality Consistency) that enforce selecting confident unlabelled samples. The second is the appliance of an oversampling method that rebalances the labels distribution of the initial labelled set, which reduces the reinforcement of the label imbalance issue during the Co‐training learning. The proposed approach is evaluated using a collection of scientific papers extracted from the ACM digital library. Performed experiments show the effectiveness of our approach with regards to several baseline methods.

Abstract: Allergic asthma (AA) is a common asthma phenotype, and its diagnosis requires both the demonstration of IgE-sensitization to aeroallergens and the causative role of this sensitization as a major driver of asthma symptoms. Therefore, a bronchial allergen challenge (BAC) would be occasionally required to identify AA patients among atopic asthmatics. Nevertheless, BAC is usually considered a research tool only, with existing protocols being tailored to mild asthmatics and research needs (eg long washout period for inhaled corticosteroids). Consequently, existing BAC protocols are not designed to be performed in moderate-to-severe asthmatics or in clinical practice. The correct diagnosis of AA might help select patients for immunomodulatory therapies. Allergen sublingual immunotherapy is now registered and recommended for controlled or partially controlled patients with house dust mite-driven AA and with FEV1 ≥ 70%. Allergen avoidance is costly and difficult to implement for the management of AA, so the proper selection of patients is also beneficial. In this position paper, the EAACI Task Force proposes a methodology for clinical BAC that would need to be validated in future studies. The clinical implementation of BAC could ultimately translate into a better phenotyping of asthmatics in real life, and into a more accurate selection of patients for long-term and costly management pathways.

Abstract: International audience; Button batteries (BB) remain a health hazard to children as ingestion might lead to life-threatening complications, especially if the battery is impacted in the esophagus. Worldwide initiatives have been set up in order to prevent and also timely diagnose and manage BB ingestions. A European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) task force for BB ingestions has been founded, which aimed to contribute to reducing the health risks related to this event. It is important to focus on the European setting, next to other worldwide initiatives, to develop and implement effective management strategies. As one of the first initiatives of the ESPGHAN task force, this ESPGHAN position paper has been written. The literature is summarized, and prevention strategies are discussed focusing on some controversial topics. An algorithm for the diagnosis and management of BB ingestions is presented and compared to previous guidelines (NASPGHAN, National Poison Center). In agreement with earlier guidelines, immediate localization of the BB is important and in case of esophageal impaction, the BB should be removed instantly (preferably 12 hours after ingestion or time point of removal >12 hours after ingestion) and esophageal impaction the guideline suggests to perform a CT scan in order to evaluate for vascular injury before removing the battery. In delayed diagnosis, even if the battery has passed the esophagus, endoscopy to screen for esophageal damage and a CT scan to rule out vascular injury should be considered even in asymptomatic children. Abstract: Background One year after the declaration of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) and despite the implementation of mandatory physical barriers and social distancing, humanity remains challenged by a long-lasting and devastating public health crisis. Management Non-pharmacological interventions (NPIs) are efficient mitigation strategies. The success of these NPIs is dependent on the approval and commitment of the population. The launch of a mass vaccination program in many countries in late December 2020 with mRNA vaccines, adenovirus-based vaccines, and inactivated virus vaccines has generated hope for the end of the pandemic. Current Issues The continuous appearance of new pathogenic viral strains and the ability of vaccines to prevent infection and transmission raise important concerns as we try to achieve community immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its variants. The need of a second and even third generation of vaccines has already been acknowledged by the WHO and governments. Perspectives There is a critical and urgent need for a balanced and integrated strategy for the management of the COVID-19 outbreaks organized on three axes: (1) Prevention of the SARS-CoV-2 infection, (2) Detection and early diagnosis of patients at risk of disease worsening, and (3) Anticipation of medical care (PDA). Conclusion The “PDA strategy” integrated into state policy for the support and expansion of health systems and introduction of digital organizations (i.e., telemedicine, e-Health, artificial intelligence, and machine-learning technology) is of major importance for the preservation of citizens' health and life world-wide.

Abstract: This is an extended version (including the Minnie RMP440 experiment) of a paper currently under review; Validation and Verification (V&V) of autonomous robotics system software is becoming a critical issue. Among the V&V techniques at our disposal, formal approaches are among the most rigorous and trustworthy ones. Yet, the level of skills and knowledge required to use and deploy formal methods is usually quite high and rare. In this paper, we describe an approach that starts from a regular, but rigorous, framework to specify and deploy robotics software components, which can also automatically synthesize a formal model of these components. The fact that this formal model is behaviourally equivalent to the implementation of the component is very promising. We show how we can use this formal model to prove properties both offline, for model-checking (e.g., schedulability, worst-case time, exclusivity). We also describe our approach to execute this formal model, in place of a traditional implementation, and show how this provides the opportunity to add powerful monitoring and runtime verification capabilities to the system (e.g., prevent robot damage, force landing). We believe that having a consistent workflow, from an initial specification of our system, down to a formal, executable specification is a major advance in robotics and open the way for verification of functional components of autonomous robots and beyond. We illustrate this claim by describing a complete example based on a genuine drone flight controller.

Abstract: We introduce the General Index of Software Engineering Papers, a dataset of fulltext-indexed papers from the most prominent scientific venues in the field of Software Engineering. The dataset includes both complete bibliographic information and indexed ngrams (sequence of contiguous words after removal of stopwords and non-words, for a total of 577 276 382 unique n-grams in this release) with length 1 to 5 for 44 581 papers retrieved from 34 venues over the 1971-2020 period.The dataset serves use cases in the field of meta-research, allowing to introspect the output of software engineering research even when access to papers or scholarly search engines is not possible (e.g., due to contractual reasons). Abstract: International audience; The origin of Tibetan papermaking is poorly documented. Up to now, only the Tibetan paper fragments from Endere and Dunhuang sites have been scientifically studied outlining the basic knowledge about plant fiber uses and artwork manufacturing procedures. In order to deepen the knowledge on the unique ancient Tibetan papermaking, we report here the analysis of a set of paper fragments from the Samye Monastery in south Tibet, China. Multidisciplinary scientific investigations utilizing 14C radiocarbon dating, microscopic observation, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS), pyrolysis-comprehensive gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GCxGC/MS), and proteomic analysis have been applied to these ancient paper fragments. The results show that the fragments were dated to the 12th~13th century AD and made from fibers of the Thymelaeaceae family plant Stellera Chamaejasme L of which the fiber’s chemical profiles have been firstly studied. The presence of starch granules from Triticum spp wheat and proteins from bovine milk (more likely assigned to native yak), offers the first indication that a unique sizing technique using starch-milk sizing had been employed in early Tibetan papermaking, compared to using alum-animal glue sizing agent which is more popular in contemporary Central China. The combined use of organic material (unaltered starch grains) and inorganic material (calcium carbonate) as paper fillers is also firstly revealed in Tibetan papermaking. The application of Py-GC/MS, Py-GCxGC/MS and proteomic analysis revealed more detailed profiles of early Tibetan hand papermaking, indicating that these methods have great potential to explore the production technology of ancient handmade papers.

Abstract: This paper will review the origins, development, and examples of new versions of Micro-Pattern Gas Detectors. The goal for MPGD development was the creation of detectors that could cost-effectively cover large areas while offering excellent position and timing resolution, and the ability to operate at high incident particle rates. The early MPGD developments culminated in the formation of the RD51 collaboration which has become the critical organization for the promotion of MPGDs and all aspects of their production, characterization, simulation, and uses in an expanding array of experimental configurations. For the Snowmass 2021 study, a number of Letters of Interest were received that illustrate ongoing developments and expansion of the use of MPGDs. Abstract: Fungi have the ability to transform organic materials into a rich and diverse set of useful products and provide distinct opportunities for tackling the urgent challenges before all humans. Fungal biotechnology can advance the transition from our petroleum-based economy into a bio-based circular economy and has the ability to sustainably produce resilient sources of food, feed, chemicals, fuels, textiles, and materials for construction, automotive and transportation industries, for furniture and beyond. Fungal biotechnology offers solutions for securing, stabilizing and enhancing the food supply for a growing human population, while simultaneously lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Fungal biotechnology has, thus, the potential to make a significant contribution to climate change mitigation and meeting the United Nation’s sustainable development goals through the rational improvement of new and established fungal cell factories. The White Paper presented here is the result of the 2nd Think Tank meeting held by the EUROFUNG consortium in Berlin in October 2019. This paper highlights discussions on current opportunities and research challenges in fungal biotechnology and aims to inform scientists, educators, the general public, industrial stakeholders and policymakers about the current fungal biotech revolution.

Abstract: International audience; This paper is intended to update the former consensus between the French Societies of Radiology and Cardiology about the use of stress cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in chronic coronary syndrome, published in 2009. The Delphi method was used to build the present consensus. This expert panel consensus includes recommendations for indications, the procedure (with patient preparation), stress-inducing drugs, the acquisition protocol, interpretation and risk stratification by stress magnetic resonance imaging.
