The recent growing concerns surrounding the pervasive adoption of generative AI can be traced back to the long-standing influence of AI algorithms that have predominantly served as content curators on large online platforms. These algorithms are used by online services and platforms to decide what content to show and in what order, and they can have a negative impact, including the spread of misinformation, social polarization, and echo chambers around important topics. Frances Haugen, a former Facebook employee turned whistleblower, has drawn significant public attention to this issue by revealing the company's alleged knowledge about the negative impacts of their own algorithms. Additionally, a recent initiative to ban TikTok as a threat to US national security indicates the influence of recommender systems. The objective of this study is threefold. The first goal is to provide an exhaustive evaluation of the profound worldwide influence exerted by algorithm-based recommendations. The second goal is to determine the degree of priority accorded by the scientific community to pivotal subjects in recommender systems discussions, such as misinformation, polarization, addiction, emotional contagion, privacy, and bias. Finally, the third goal is to assess whether the level of scientific research and discourse is commensurate with the significant impact these recommendation systems have globally. The research concludes the impact of recommender systems on society has been largely neglected by the scientific community, despite the fact that more than half of the world's population interacts with them on a daily basis. This becomes especially apparent when considering that algorithms exert influence not just on major societal issues but on every aspect of a user's online experience. El mundo posdigital en el que vivimos y nos comunicamos hace que la formación necesaria para moverse en este entorno multipantallas sea más necesaria que nunca. En el presente trabajo, se presentan los problemas y retos actuales a los que se enfrenta el sistema educativo y las instituciones, así como algunas propuestas para avanzar en este campo. Esta sistematización de propuestas se realiza a partir del análisis de los webinarios Impulsar la educomunicación desde las universidades e Impulsar la Educomunicación desde los sectores profesionales de la comunicación, promovidos por la Cátedra RTVE de Cultura audiovisual y alfabetización mediática de la Universitat Jaume I, celebrados en abril y mayo, y en septiembre y octubre de 2022, respectivamente. En total, se analizan 9 sesiones (18 horas de charlas, en total). Partiendo de estas charlas, se estudian las percepciones y el diagnóstico que realizan los 27 expertos (18 invitados y 9 moderadores) sobre la situación de la educomunicación en el sistema educativo y empresarial español, a la vez que se busca la implementación de estrategias, actividades e iniciativas para impulsar la alfabetización mediática., The post-digital world in which we live and communicate makes the necessary training to move in this multi-screen environment more necessary than ever. In this paper, we present the current problems and challenges faced by the educational system and institutions, as well as some proposals to advance in this field. This systematization of proposals is based on the analysis of the webinars Impulsar la educomunicación desde las universidades and Impulsar la Educomunicación desde los sectores profesionales de la comunicación, promoted by the RTVE Chair of Audiovisual Culture and Media Literacy of the Universitat Jaume I, held in April and May, and in September and October 2022, respectively. In total, 9 sessions are analyzed (18 hours of talks, in total). Based on these talks, the perceptions and diagnosis made by the 27 experts (18 guests and 9 moderators) on the situation of educommunication in the Spanish educational and business system are studied, while seeking the implementation of strategies, activities and initiatives to promote media literacy.

Data is the magic word of the 21st century. As oil in the 20th century and electricity in the 19th century: For citizens, data means support in daily life in almost all activities, from watch to laptop, from kitchen to car, from mobile phone to politics. The world’s environmental crisis and the social crisis brewed in diverse geographical positions around the world point directly at the global economic model that has been unable to balance productivity with sustainability and has demonstrated to be incapable to bridge the poverty gap that condemns multiple social sectors in a human defenseless state. As being part of the productive gear of global economies, it is inevitable that Design’s methodological actions fall under criticism and is demanded to take responsibility that allows it to contribute to the environmental and social urgency state. The following article proposes a review of Design methodologies based on user modeling under the conceptual framework given by Digital Humanism. This framework invites human beings to think from a citizen perspective based on rights. We look into the implications of users thinking as citizens under the frame of these methodologies., La crisis ambiental planetaria y las crisis sociales gestadas en diversos puntos geográficos alrededor del planeta, apuntan directamente al modelo económico global que ha sido incapaz de equilibrar productividad con sustentabilidad y que ha demostrado ser incapaz de cerrar la brecha de pobreza que hunde a numerosos sectores sociales en un estado de indefensión humana. Al ser el Diseño parte del engranaje productivo de las economías globales es inevitable que su accionar metodológico quede en estado de crítica y se le exija asumir responsabilidades que le permitan contribuir al estado de urgencia climática y social. En el siguiente texto nos proponemos realizar una revisión de las metodologías del Diseño basadas en la modelación de usuarios, dentro del marco conceptual dado por el Humanismo digital, que insta a pensar al ser humano desde una perspectiva ciudadana amparada en derechos. Deseamos indagar sobre las implicaciones, dentro de estas metodologías, que supone el pensar al usuario en términos de ciudadano.

From its inception, the World Wide Web has been intended to be a force for social good. But there are many barriers and obstacles, a situation commonly characterized as the Digital Divide. Several billion people especially in the Global South do not have access to Internet/Web for reasons of lacking (affordable) infrastructure, poverty, low literacy, lack of digital skills, language, etc., and are thus digitally excluded. Also in the Global North, despite being technologically “advanced”, we see severe digital inequalities and power disparities, in part for the same reasons and in part due to the Web being exploited as a centralized surveillance and moneymaking machine, controlled by big parties such as states and big (tech) corporations, thus creating further inequalities and exclusion. This paper summarizes the main themes and insights from ongoing research presented and discussed at the WebSci’20 Workshop on Digital (In)Equality, Digital Inclusion, Digital Humanism.

One of the main ways of controlling power is to prohibit access to speech. Indoctrination through silence places women in a lower stratum in the digital narrative of animation film and, therefore, in society. This article reflects —from a qualitative perspective— on various aspects of Disney princesses' children's cinematography: the images of their characters, their representations, their speeches and their silences are analyzed with the intention of denaturing this type of fictions, since education, participation, transgression, perverse reading and the alternative view are the basis for recovering the freedom to create stories and identities. We start from making visible the mechanisms of audiovisual creation and the ways of suggesting to the public that they are essential elements to avoid manipulation and we conclude with the need to provide literacy in the media from schools so that the Digital Humanities can be built with such solid pillars as equality, critical thinking and humanist values, with which to give coherence to our existence., Una de las principales formas de controlar el poder consiste en prohibir el acceso a la palabra. El adoctrinamiento a través del silencio ubica a la mujer en un estrato inferior en la narrativa digital del cine de animación y, por ende, en la sociedad. En este artículo se reflexiona sobre diversos aspectos de la cinematografía infantil de las princesas Disney: las imágenes de sus personajes, sus representaciones, sus discursos y sus silencios son analizados con la intención de desnaturalizar este tipo de ficciones, ya que la educación, la participación, la transgresión, la lectura perversa y la mirada alternativa son la base para recuperar la libertad de crear historias e identidades. Partimos de visibilizar los mecanismos de creación audiovisual y las formas de sugestionar al público como elementos esenciales para evitar la manipulación y concluimos en la necesidad de alfabetizar en medios desde las escuelas para que las Humanidades Digitales se construyan con pilares tan sólidos como: la igualdad, el pensamiento crítico y los valores humanistas, con los que dotar de coherencia nuestra existencia.

Cyberculture facilitates both real-time and non-real-time communication in the digital community, making it possible to share interests based on a collective intelligence, as well as favoring dialogical interaction in a social network that uses sophisticated multimedia and hypermedia technology. For this reason, digital corporality reveals the autonomy of independent learning through the forms of communication between the individual and the collective; the anticipation of social and cooperative knowledge; the use of words and language in order to discover other people´s subjectivity; the mastery of narrative discourse that describes a person´s biography in order to reach a cognitive and meta-cognitive self-regulation; the communication of emotions and feelings as an indicator of acceptance to increase intellectual, moral, and scientic autonomy., La cibercultura facilita la comunicación de la comunidad digital en tiempo real y no real, posibilitando compartir intereses a partir de una inteligencia colectiva. Además, favorece la interacción dialógica en una red social que emplea tecnología sosticada de diseño multimedial e hipermedial. Por tal razón, la corporeidad digital delata la autonomía del aprendizaje autónomo en la manera como se comunica el individuo con el colectivo; el modo en que anticipa un conocimiento social y cooperativo; el uso que hace de la palabra y del lenguaje para conocer la subjetividad de las personas; el dominio del discurso narrativo, que describe la biografía de la persona para alcanzar la autorregulación cognitiva y metacognitiva; la transmisión de emociones y sentimientos como indicador de aceptación para crecer en la autonomía intelectual, moral y cientíca.
