Autonomous lawn mowers and floor cleaning robots are today easily accessible and areutilizing well-studied Coverage Path Planning algorithms. They operate in single-floorenvironments that are small with simple geometry compared to general urban environments such as city parking garages, highway bridges or city crossings. A next step for autonomous cleaning is road sweeping of these complex urban environments. In this work,a new Coverage Path Planning approach, Sampled BA* & Inward Spiral , handling this taskwas compared with existing well-performing algorithms BA* and Inward Spiral. The proposed approach combines the strengths of existing algorithms and demonstrates state-of-the-art performance on three large-scale 3D environments. It generated paths with lessrotation, while keeping the length of the path on the same level. For a given starting point,the new approach had consistently lower cost (length + rotation) for all environments. Forrandom starting points, randomness in the new approach caused less robustness, givingsignificantly higher cost. To improve the performance of the algorithms and remove biasfrom manual tuning, the parameters were automatically tuned using Bayesian Optimization. This makes the evaluation more robust and the results stronger.

Water pressure and sweeping applied weekly, biweekly, and monthly, during the two months testing period, maintained the SR level above the required value of 60 and the untreated sections showed that pavement surface must be treated to maintain the SR above 60.

The content of this contribution is an evaluation of research on various mechanical pre-treatments of inorganic coating, which is part of the so-called duplex system applied to a steel sheet. In order to coating adhesion increase, the hot-dip galvanising surface was first pre-treatment using the standard light blast technology (synthetic brown corundum F40). Furthermore, pre-treatment was also carried out using alternative methods that can be used in conditions without blasting equipment - sandpaper regrinding (P40, P60, P80 and P100) and a corrosion-resistant steel brush (wire diameter 0.30 mm). Tools are designed e.g. for cleaning metal surfaces. Samples without mechanical pretreatment and samples with blasted surface were used as a standard. The surface texture was evaluated based on the roughness height parameters Ra and Rz (according to ČSN EN ISO 4287 standard). The mechanical resistance of applied anti-corrosion protection was determined by means of a pull-of adhesion test (according to ČSN EN ISO 4624 standard). The experiment suggest results, that among the alternative methods, the use of P80 and P100 sandpapers and corrosion-resistant steel brushes seems to be the most suitable, as these tools are not as aggressive to the galvanised surface as P40 and P60 sandpapers.

Assuming a service perspective, with an exploratory, multi-stakeholder, and collaborative approach, a case study of an autonomous cleaning robot currently in development is conducted. With the methodological approach of sequentially and iteratively going through the phases of Mapping and Ideation, Conceptualization, Prototyping, and Data analysis, a total of 10 co-creative, stakeholder-centric workshops were conducted, using various prototyping methods e.g. Contextual value network mapping and Desktop walkthrough. Findings show that the value that an autonomous cleaning robot can bring different stakeholders in the context of a cleaning service is multi-facetted and can be divided in to eight different Aspects, where each value carries a different implication at the level of the individual and the level of the system. Furthermore, a list of seven different Design parameters and four different Design problems are presented, which should be used as guidelines when further developing a cleaning service that uses an autonomous cleaning robot. Finally, the implications of the findings are put into a broader perspective through discussion, with topics such as the impact of more robots in society.

This study aimed to produce an inventory of the parasitoid Hymenoptera for the Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra, using the vegetation sweep method. Between September 2009 the October 2010, 6,489 exemplars were collected, belonging to eight superfamilies and 24 families. Eulophidae, Braconidae, Platygastridae, Pteromalidae and Encyrtidae were the families with the highest relative abundance, being responsible for 18.6%, 18.5%, 15.8%, 10.3%, and 9.8% the total number of collected, respectively. Nineteen families combined contributed less than 4% of the sample. The greatest diversity occurred at sample points located on the base of the Chapadão da Canastra, influenced, probably, by the phytophysiognomic gradient in this region. A similarity analysis this study with other surveys of parasitoid wasps in the Cerrado, besides a preliminary table of Pimplinae (Ichneumonidae) genus is presented, O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a composição faunística de Hymenoptera parasitoide do Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra, utilizando o método de varredura de vegetação. Pavement markings are an essential element in the navigational aids subsystem for any airfield. Most airfields still use waterborne paint as the primary marking material, although there are other materials in use on roadways that airfield managers could use to save time and money. An airfield experiences a host of maintenance operations that cause degradation of the pavement markings. Of particular concern are rubber removal operations, sweeping operations, and snowplowing operations. This research focuses on chemical rubber removal operations and sweeping operations. The study evaluates waterborne paint markings and thermoplastic marking strips to determine if these marking materials perform differently from each other after the maintenance operations of chemical rubber removal and sweeping. The evaluation criteria included retro-reflectance, chromaticity, and coverage. Results show that the two materials experienced different degradation characteristics from the chemical rubber removal treatment. Waterborne paint markings degraded quickly and no longer met the minimum requirements for retro-reflectance and chromaticity after the first chemical treatment. The thermoplastic markings experienced catastrophic failure after the third chemical treatment. In contrast, neither the waterborne markings nor the thermoplastic markings showed any appreciable amount of degradation in any of the three performance measurements when subjected to sweeping operations., The original document contains color images.

Since the paper of Given & Leckie (Libr. Infor. Sci. Res. 2003) about the use of ethnographic methods in libraries to define how students make use of their (!) spaces in libraries, few experiences have been published in Europe. A contact with a Canadian team having applied this kind of end‐user survey to map the social activities in libraries (9th Northumbria Conf., May & Swabey 2011) was our starting point to experiment the “sweeping” method of analysis in the Library of science and technology (UCL). As a relocation project of our old library of the seventies has been planned into a new building for 2015, the survey was also an opportunity to rethink the spaces and the services of our library. What are the habits and the activities of our users, mainly digital natives? What is their use of the spaces? What are they doing with our reading tablets available? And when and how? The responses given by the survey will improve our efficiency to plan changes, to argument our discussions with architects, to select furniture and equipments and, why not, to invent new services. Our methodology to “sweeping the seats” consists to realise a 30’ tour of the library and to record for each user his profile (student, staff …), his location (rooms for groups, reading table, information desk …) and his activity (studying alone or working in groups, with or without our books! browsing the web, with or without Facebook! eating or sleeping …). The survey is conducted by a young and discreet librarian who records this information on a check‐list with 10 different spaces and 25 different activities. The project, conducted between September 2011 and June 2012, consist to repeat this short 30’ survey at 60representative moments of the academic calendar. Given the absence of a definitive threshold for atmospheric particulate matter (PM)-induced adverse health effects and the evidence of road traffic as a main contributor to PM-urban levels, there is a general agreement in reducing PM-associated health risks by firstly focusing on vehicle traffic sector. Beside the reduction of primary exhaust emissions, recent potential measures are challenging to reduce emissions of particulate matter from abrasion and resuspension processes given the high potential health burden of heavy metals and metalloids sourced by vehicle-wear particles (brakes, tires, rotor, discs and catalysts) and of coarse particles (PM2.5-10). Some mitigating measures can be adopted in order to reduce road dust emissions from paved roads by removing or binding those particles already deposited and easy to be resuspended by traffic-generated turbulence. Sweeping, water flushing and use of chemical suppressants are usually more commonly employed to try to diminish emissions, but evaluating the effectiveness of preventive measures on improving air quality is a difficult task, consequently there is a general dearth of information about their effectiveness in reducing ambient PM concentrations. In particular, the scientific bibliography seems to be particularly scarce, whilst most of the information comes from local authorities committees. Consequently the existing reports are often aimed only to the municipalities and in the native language, with an objective difficulty for the international scientific community to access to them. For this review we have gathered contributions from some of major experts in this field, with the purpose of taking advantage of their background and personal awareness about any kind of related reports even not in English. Esta tesis versa sobre el desarrollo de las tecnologías para la generación de mallas de hexaedros. El proceso de generar una malla de hexaedros no es automático y su generación requiere varias horas te trabajo de un ingeniero especializado. Por lo tanto, es importante desarrollar herramientas que faciliten dicho proceso de generación. Con este fin, se presenta y desarrolla un método de proyección de mallas, una técnica de sweeping o barrido, un algoritmo para la obtención de mallas por bloques, y un entorno de generación de mallas. Las implementaciones más competitivas del método de sweeping utilizan técnicas de proyección de mallas basadas en métodos afines. Los métodos afines más habituales presentan varios problemas relacionados con la obtención de sistemas de ecuaciones normales de rango deficiente. Para solucionar dichos problemas se presenta y analiza un nuevo método afín que depende de dos parámetros vectoriales. Además, se detalla un procedimiento automático para la selección de dichos vectores. El método de proyección resultante preserva la forma de las mallas proyectadas. Esta proyección es incorporada también en una nueva herramienta de sweeping. Dicha herramienta genera capas de nodos internos que respetan la curvatura de las superficies inicial y final. La herramienta de sweeping es capaz de mallar geometrías de extrusión definidas por trayectorias curvas, secciones no constantes a lo largo del eje de sweeping, y superficies inicial y final con diferente forma y curvatura. En las últimas décadas se han propuesto varios ataques para la generación automática de mallas de hexahedros. Sin embargo, todavía no existe un algoritmo rápido y robusto que genere automáticamente mallas de hexaedros de alta calidad. The process of generating hexahedral meshes is not fully automatic and it is a time consuming task. Therefore, it is important to develop tools that facilitate the generation of hexahedral meshes. To this end, a mesh projection method, a sweeping technique, a block-meshing algorithm, and an interactive mesh generation environment are presented and developed. Competitive implementations of the sweeping method use mesh projection techniques based on affine methods. Standard affine methods have several drawbacks related to the statement of rank deficient sets of normal equations. To overcome these drawbacks a new affine method that depends on two vector parameters is presented and analyzed. Moreover, an automatic procedure that selects these two vector parameters is detailed. The resulting projection procedure preserves the shape of projected meshes. Then, this procedure is incorporated in a new sweeping tool. This tool generates inner layers of nodes that preserve the curvature of the cap surfaces. The sweeping tool is able to mesh extrusion geometries defined by non-linear sweeping trajectories, non-constant cross sections along the sweep axis, non-parallel cap surfaces, and cap surfaces with different shape and curvature. In the last decades, several general-purpose approaches to generate automatically hexahedral meshes have been proposed. However, a fast and robust algorithm that automatically generates high-quality hexahedral meshes is not available. A novel approach for block meshing by representing the geometry and the topology of a hexahedral mesh is presented. The block-meshing algorithm first generates an initial coarse mesh of tetrahedral elements. Second, several planar polygons are added inside the elements of the initial coarse mesh. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá kapilární elektroforézou a technikami, kterými lze zvýšit citlivost elektroforézy, tzv. prekoncentračními technikami. Důvod, proč se prekoncentrace provádějí je nízká koncentrační citlivost, která je, mimo jiné, způsobená dávkováním malého množství vzorku do kapiláry. Při zmenšení průměru kapiláry se zvětší účinnost separace, ale sníží se schopnost detekce. Při větším průměru kapiláry nastává obrácená odezva. V práci, která je psána formou rešerše, jsou uvedeny nejběžnější techniky prekoncentrací. V experimentální části je demonstrováno použití prekoncentrační techniky nametení. Metodou micelární elektrokinetické kapilární chromatografie byl analyzován kvercetin ve vzorku čaje., The principles of capillary electrophoresis and techniques, which can be used to improve sensitivity of detection in electrophoresis, so called preconcentration techniques, are reviewed in this bachelor work. Preconcentration techniques are applied due to the low concentration sensitivity of the method, due to the low volume injection into the capillary. With lower inner diameter of the capillary separation efficiency increases, but sensitivity of detection decreases and vice versa. Cutting and F128 brushes, under various operating conditions are studied. Appropriate and optimum combinations of operating parameters for different debris types are identified. It is concluded that medium-size gravel may be easy to sweep; fine particles tend to be left in the road irregularities; and wet thin debris may entangle in the brush and be thrown on the road. The F128 brush seems to provide better effectiveness than the cutting brush., Se estudia experimentalmente la efectividad de los cepillos laterales para barrido de calles para remover varios tipos de basura. Se usa un cepillo cortador y un cepillo F128 bajo diversas condiciones de operación. Se identifican combinaciones apropiadas y óptimas de los parámetros de operación para varios tipos de basura. Se concluye que la gravilla mediana es de fácil remoción, mientras que las partículas pequeñas se tienden a quedar en las irregularidades de la vía y la basura húmeda delgada tiende a adherirse al cepillo y a quedarse en la vía. We present a method for calculating the envelope of the swept surface of a solid along a path in three-dimensional space. The generator of the swept surface is a trivariate tensorproduct B`ezier solid and the path is a non-uniform rational B-spline curve. The boundary surface of the solid is the combination of parametric surfaces and an implicit surface where the determinant of the Jacobian of the defining function is zero. We define methods to calculate the envelope for each type of boundary surface, defining characteristic curves on the envelope and connecting them with triangle strips. The envelope of the swept solid is then calculated by taking the union of the envelopes of the family of boundary surfaces, defined by the surface of the solid in motion along the path.

The paper presents the current density peaks during the heating-up phase for different kind of quartzes: clear natural from Brazil, smoky natural, and synthetic quartz from Sawyer Research Product (Electronic and Premium Q), Toyo, romanian and polish ones, and compares the phenomenon in vacuum and in air for the same applied electric field and gives a model, with which the process could be described.

Resonators have been fabricated for 70 MHz to 1.6 GHz operation using wet chemical etching of AT-cut quartz wafers. Measured Q's close to estimated material values were obtained for first and third overtone resonators. Best performance for very high frequency operation was obtained using small diameter electrodes, polished blanks and vacuum enclosures. Natural quartz which has a lower incidence of etch channels and pits than cultured quartz was used for most of the resonators fabricated. Elimination of these defects which contribute to failure of thin etched wafers was also achieved in cultured quartz by sweeping. Swept material was used for 100 MHz resonators with good results. A breadboard circuit operable to 150 MHz was built to demonstrate the feasibility of using these resonators in oscillators. (Author)
