Migration is one of the most pressing global issues of our time. However, relatively little is known about the factors and mechanisms that govern the post-migration experiences of skilled migrants. We adopt an acculturation- and social identitybased approach to examine how diferences between institutional characteristics in the destination and origin country, as well as migrants’ experiences with formal and informal institutions shape their identifcation with the destination and origin country and contribute to their community and career embeddedness. Our study of 1709 highly skilled migrants from 48 origin countries in 12 destination countries reveals that the institutional environment migrants encounter provides both sources of opportunity (potential for human development and value-congruent societal practices) and sources of disadvantage (experienced ethnocentrism and downgrading). These contrasting dynamics afect migrants’ destination-country identifcation, their origin-country identifcation and, ultimately, their embeddedness in the destination country. Our results have important implications for multinational enterprises and policy makers that can contribute to enhancing skilled migrants’ community and career embeddedness. For example, these actors may nurture a work environment and provide supportive policies that bufer against the institutional sources of disadvantage we identifed in this study, while helping migrants to leverage the opportunities available in the destination country

Carbon taxes are an effective tool to reduce carbon emissions but their use is hampered by a lack of public support. We develop the theoretical argument that social insurance programmes may be designed to mitigate perceptions of economic risk and unfairness, and thereby increase public acceptance of carbon taxes. Employing a novel combination of cross-sectional data, we test whether and how the coverage, replacement rates, and duration of three social insurance programmes relate to support for carbon taxes in 20 European countries. The results reveal that coverage correlates significantly with support for carbon taxes, while replacement rates and the duration of social insurance exhibit no such association individually. However, a combination of broad coverage and high replacement rates is linked to greater support for carbon taxes than broad coverage alone. The relationship between social protection and carbon tax support is furthermore equally strong among economically vulnerable and other groups.

This volume is the outcome of an Academia Europaea conference in Uppsala in the spring of 2022. After an introudction by the editor to the topic and the volume, Hans de Wit, Simon Marginson and Ellen Hazelkorn provide perspectives on internationalization. In a second part Ravit Mizrahi-Shtelman and Gili Drori, Marijk van der Wende, Mette Ginnerskov-Dahlberg and Karen Valentin, elaborate on obstacles to internationalization such as language, security concerns, barriers in labour markets and climate effects. In a following third part, Robert J. Coelen; Ashley Gunter, Markus Roos Breines, F. Melis Cin and Purvati Rahuram, and Christine T. Ennew discuss three alternative modes of internationalization: internationalization at home, distance education and branch campuses. A final chapter by the editor draws conclusions from the earlier chapters and provides some thoughts for the future.

The aim of this study is to shed light on how Swedish female survivors of male intimate partner violence experience support from social workers during post-separation violence. This is explored through an interview study with sixteen survivors. Hester’s (2011) Three Planet Model is utilized in the analysis. The results show that while the survivors described positive experiences of support from social workers on the Domestic violence planet, they felt social workers in the family law system on the Child contact planet enabled post-separation violence, and reported that this contributed to them feeling betrayed rather than supported.

Background: Assuring that emergency health care (EHC) is accessible is a key objective for health care planners. Conventional accessibility analysis commonly relies on resident population data. However, the allocation of resources based on stationary population data may lead to erroneous assumptions of population accessibility to EHC. Method: Therefore, in this paper, we calculate population accessibility to emergency departments in Sweden with a geographical information system based network analysis. Utilizing static population data and dynamic population data, we investigate spatiotemporal patterns of how static population data over- or underestimates population sizes derived from temporally dynamic population data. Results: Our findings show that conventional measures of population accessibility tend to underestimate population sizes particularly in rural areas and in smaller ED’s catchment areas compared to urban, larger ED’s—especially during vacation time in the summer. Conclusions: Planning based on static population data may thus lead to inequitable distributions of resources. Recent geopolitical and economic crises underline the need for a European transition towards a more sustainable food system. Scholars and policymakers have called for a re-territorialization of food production to strike a better balance between local, regional and global value chains. This paper explores the role of re-territorialization through an analysis of the emergence, development and current transformation of the Swedish wild berry value chain. The analysis combines the multi-level perspective on sustainability transitions with a socio-techno-ecological system approach and draws on interviews, informal conversations, participant observations and a range of secondary sources. The resulting case narrative shows how processes of de-territorialization may result in regimes that fail to address sustainability potential and problems. It also highlights that processes of re-territorialization challenge established regimes by promoting niches that represent diferent, albeit complementary, value chain confgurations. Apart from a rich empirical narrative that brings useful knowledge to stakeholders to the Swedish wild berry value chain, the paper contributes to the theoretical understanding re-territorialization, shows how the ecological dimension can be accounted for with the multi-level perspective on sustainability transitions and presents a number of general policy implications., The authors gratefully acknowledge funding from The Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development, FORMAS (grant no. 2020-02839 and 2021-02226).

The purpose of the article is to explore, through comparative analysis, how different objectives within the universities influence the process when implementing programmes with a gender-theoretical orientation for women researchers and leaders. In the Nora programme, with an indivi- dual objective, gender theory is repeatedly rejected by the participants, as the structural perspective in the theories collides with the participants’ idea of themselves and their organization. In Svea, with a structural objective, gender theory instead becomes a useful tool for the partici- pants. The objective also has a significant effect on the participants ability to cope with resistance from the academic environment. In both pro- grammes, participants experienced resistance that triggered frustration. In Svea, the frustration that arose could be repaired by connecting to gender theory, whereas in Nora the participants could not interpret the resistance from a power perspective and were trapped in frustration. When objec- tives focus on the individual, the problem of inequality is interpreted at the individual level, i.e., that the problem is women, and that women are still to blame. The aim of this paper is to, based on official statements in public documents as well as statements and opinions in media, identify how different perspectives that appear in the debate about the green transformation can be understood and justified in Norway and Sweden with a specific focus on land use. It is assumed that these perspectives can be linked to fundamental values such as for example anthropocentrism or ecocentrism. Given that different perspectives on land use can be identified, the paper also identify what type of policy instruments the literature suggests has a potential to bridge the different perspectives. The literature acknowledges traditional policy instruments (regulatory, economic and informative) including spatial planning, but also suggest testing more innovative policy instruments within the realm of economic incentives, information, and voluntary instruments, to mitigate land use conflicts in the context of green transformation.

One of the main tasks of the armed forces is to recruit and select future soldiers and to identify potential officers. However, these procedures may have a wider societal impact beyond the borders of the military organization itself. This study aims to examine how compatible assessments of military leadership potential are with those in the labor market. Using longitudinal data concerning a large cohort of Swedish males who underwent mustering during the early 1970s, we analyzed the association between officer suitability assessments and managerial role occupancy at age 50 to 55, while controlling for socio-demographic factors in childhood and adulthood. We found a high level of predictability, whereby those who were ranked highest were four times more likely to hold managerial positions than those with the lowest ranking. Results are discussed in relation to perceptions about leadership skills and possible institutional isomorphism between the armed forces and other societal organizations.

Digital twin technology is an emerging technology within the built environment. There are yet many unexplored opportunities to utilize digital twins for facilitating the transformation towards a climate neutral building stock while also meeting the expectations from the building occupants. This article presents a case study of a digital twin, developed for an existing commercial building stock of campus areas in Sweden. The overarching purpose of the digital twin is to support both building occupants and building operators. This twofold human-centric approach represents a novel approach for building digital twins. The digital twin is based on 3D scanning and together with geospatial data, a real-like navigational indoor environment is created. Three innovative features are presented; the building analysis module, the digital twin mobile application and the building operations module. The results show that the digital twin improves the building occupant’s experience by supporting navigation and providing access to room booking system via this dedicated interface. Building management is also benefited by the digital twin through easier access to building data aggregated into one platform and a state-of-the-art analysis tool for optimizing the use of indoor space. The digital twin holds future potential to achieve operational excellence by incorporating feedback mechanisms and utilizing Artificial Intelligence to enable intelligent fault detection and prevention. Denna rapport om dubbel diskriminering handlar om förekomst av sexuella trakasserier och ohövlighet på KTH. En annan benämning på sexuella trakasserier och ohöv- lighet är genusbaserad utsatthet. Syftet med rapporten är att bidra till förändring för en mer inkluderande kultur på KTH genom ökad medvetenhet om fenomenet och dess förekomst samt genom att bidra till konstruktiva diskus- sioner kring vad som kan göras för att minska problemet. Rapporten är tänkt att användas internt på KTH i utbild- ningar, ledarutveckling, gruppövningar, på arbetsplatsträf- far och i andra lämpliga sammanhang där organisationens kultur och värdegrund är på agendan. Rapporten innehåller en kort introduktion till vad genusbaserad utsatthet, sexu- ella trakasserier och ohövlighet är genom att dels referera till hur det beskrivs och tolkas i forskning och dels till hur det definieras i svensk lagstiftning. The biotechnology industry is known for being highly networked and knowledge-intensive, as well as highly internationalized. Young firms within this sector are reliant on long term support from financiers, research collaborators and supply of highly skilled human capital. Further, contributing to the unique circumstances for entrepreneurship in this industry, it is not uncommon for firms to have no product or service, nor revenues, many years or even decades after its founding. Creating and maintaining relationships with their external environment therefore becomes essential for survival. This thesis aims to study how interorganizational networks form over time and to contribute to the understanding of how activities of entrepreneurial actors draw on and shape the networks in which they are embedded. To achieve this, 319 Swedish firms in the Swedish biotechnology industry were studied longitudinally over a period of ten years. Data was collected on their activities and relationships with actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystem surrounding biotechnology firms. A relational database of 7,745 interactions between 2,868 unique actors was constructed and analyzed using social network analysis, and additional statistical analysis was performed using panel data linear regression modeling. The findings suggest that there are significant differences in how structural characteristics of the different layers within interorganizational networks enable and constrain entrepreneurial firms in their relationships with external stakeholders. The entrepreneurial ecosystems are presented as supra-local phenomena, integrated in and through networks transcending traditional geographical confines of ecosystems. The result of this thesis underscores the importance of understanding the multi-layered and international dimensions of interorganizational networks, particularly in a knowledge-intensive and globally interconnected industry like biotechnology. By deploying remotely sensed data together with spatial statistical modeling, we use regression modeling to investigate the relationship between the density of the built environment and two types of crime. We show how the Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) data set, which is a measure of building density generated from Sentinel 2A satellite imagery, can be used to create different indexes to describe the built environment for the purpose of analyzing crime patterns for indoor crimes (residential burglary) and open space crimes (street theft). Analysis is at neighborhood level for Stockholm, Sweden. Modeling is then extended to incorporate six planning areas which represent different neighborhood types within the city. Modeling is further extended by adding selected social, economic, demographic and land use variables that have been found to be significant in explaining spatial variation in the two crime categories in Stockholm. Significant associations between the GHSL-based indexes and the two crime rates are observed but results indicate that allowance for differences in neighborhood type should be recognized. Average income and transport hubs were also significant variables in the investigated crime categories. The article provides a practical demonstration and assessment of the use of high-resolution satellite data to examine the association between urban density and two common types of crime and offers reflections about the use of satellite image data in crime analysis., QC 20240126

This article contributes knowledge regarding professionals’ expectations and conceptions of what initiatives in pedagogical practice, multiprofessional cooperation for supporting children “at risk”, can generate or has generated. The data derive from semi-structured interviews with professionals involved in a project in a Swedish municipality that aimed by means of improved multi-professional collaboration to prevent children from getting into difficulties. In this article, Billig’s concept of ideological dilemmas was used as theoretical framework, and the data analysis was inspired by qualitative content analysis. The presented ideological dilemmas – rhetoric versus practice and the individual versus the collective – relate to contrasting overarching logics associated with education and social services: promoting all children’s health and development versus treating individuals’ potential deficiencies. This article suggests that discussions about the intentions of multiprofessional collaboration need to be held when opposing positions can be articulated. Such discussions, based on professionals’ experiences and knowledge, may lead to the development of multiprofessional collaboration.

‘Translanguaging’ is nowadays an umbrella term referring to either the framework of ‘spontaneous translanguaging’ from the United States or that of ‘pedagogical translanguaging’ from the Basque Country. Both these frameworks propose ways of integrating languages in school, but they adopt very different perspectives on multilingualism, language education and minority languages. This article starts out with a discussion of spontaneous and pedagogical translanguaging as related to their sociolinguistic and educational contexts and a discussion of multilingualism in Sweden. This is followed by a critical review of academic publications on translanguaging published by researchers affiliated to Swedish universities between 2017 – the year in which the distinction between spontaneous and pedagogical translanguaging is featured in the literature – and 2023. The analysis shows that whereas spontaneous translanguaging is highly influential, pedagogical translanguaging generally plays a very understated role. Linked to the current discourse about multilingualism in Sweden, most researchers discuss translanguaging in relation to the social inclusion of students with a foreign background, who are referred to as ‘the multilingual students’, rather than to teaching languages to the whole student population. A central goal of the Swedish educational system, however, is to promote all students' multilingualism by teaching multiple languages, including foreign languages as well as any official or immigrant minority language a student uses at home. We call, therefore, for more attention to pedagogical translanguaging and we claim the importance of adapting translanguaging to the challenges of each society.

The purpose of this article is to investigate how changes in the environment of a library affect thesafety conditions of both visitors and staff. Using principles of Crime Prevention ThroughEnvironmental Design, crime and incidents of public disturbance from 2017 to 2020 from librariesin Stockholm, Sweden, are analyzed and later mapped using 3D models in CAD. Introduction: Compared to other countries, Sweden did not introduce sudden lockdowns and school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the country chose a less restrictive approach to managingthe pandemic, such as staying at home with any symptoms of cold orCOVID-19, washing hands, and maintaining social distancing. The present study investigated parental perceptions of satisfaction with family-school collaboration and with family quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Twenty-six parents of students with SEND who attended general lower secondary schools (grades 7-9) completed a survey using three measures: the demographic questionnaire, the Beach Center Family Quality of Life scale (FQOL), and the Family-School Collaboration scale – the adapted version of the original Beach Center Family-Professional Partnership Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations were used to analyse data. Results: Parents felt less satisfied with family-school collaboration related to child-oriented aspects; they were least satisfied with their emotional well-being aspect of family quality of life. Strong, significant and positive associations were found between family-school collaboration and disability-related support aspect of FQOL. Discussion: The findings point to the importance of family-schoolpartnerships in promoting students’ positive school achievements, and inenhancing FQOL. This paper proposes a directionality framework that highlights goal, sector and solution as key dimensions of transformative policy missions. The framework is used to investigate the directionality of process industry decarbonization in Sweden, by analyzing the orientation of projects supported by the major national funding program the ‘Industry Leap’ between 2017 and 2022. The results show that innovation activities (i) mainly aim to reduce fossil emissions rather than produce negative emissions, (ii) focus on the steel and chemicals industries, and (iii) engage mostly with carbon capture, electrification and hydrogen. This indicates that innovation activities are somewhat narrow and imbalanced, which suggests that policymakers should promote broader experimentation. The theoretical and empirical contribution of this paper supports academics, policymakers and other actors in understanding, evaluating and shaping the directionality of transformative policy missions., The research presented in this paper was funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (grant no. 48508-1). The characterization of the socioeconomic profle of COVID-19 mortality is limited. Likewise, the mapping of potential indirect adverse outcomes of the pandemic, such as suicide and alcohol abuse, along socioeconomic lines is still meagre. The main aim of this paper is to (i) depict SES-diferences in COVID-19 mortality, and (ii) to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on suicide and alcohol mortality across socioeconomic groups. We used Swedish monthly data spanning the period January 2016–December 2021. We chose education as indicator of socioeconomic status (SES). The following causes of deaths were included in the analysis: COVID-19, all-cause mortality excluding COVID-19, suicide and a composite index of alcohol-specifc deaths. SARIMA-modelling was used to assess the impact of the pandemic on suicide and alcohol-specifc mortality. Two alternative measures of the pandemic were used: (1) a dummy that was coded 1 during the pandemic (March 2020 and onwards), and 0 otherwise, and (2) the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker’s Stringency Index. There was a marked SES-gradient in COVID-19 mortality in the working-age population (25–64) which was larger than for other causes of death. A SES-gradient was also found in the old-age population, but this gradient did not difer from the gradient for other causes of death. The outcome from the SARIMA time-series analyses suggested that the pandemic did not have any impact on suicide or alcohol-specifc mortality in any of the educational and gender groups.

By deploying remotely sensed data together with spatial statistical modeling, we use regression modeling to investigate the relationship between the density of the built environment and two types of crime. We show how the Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) data set, which is a measure of building density generated from Sentinel 2A satellite imagery, can be used to create different indexes to describe the built environment for the purpose of analyzing crime patterns for indoor crimes (residential burglary) and open space crimes (street theft). Analysis is at neighborhood level for Stockholm, Sweden. Modeling is then extended to incorporate six planning areas which represent different neighborhood types within the city. Modeling is further extended by adding selected social, economic, demographic and land use variables that have been found to be significant in explaining spatial variation in the two crime categories in Stockholm. Significant associations between the GHSL-based indexes and the two crime rates are observed but results indicate that allowance for differences in neighborhood type should be recognized. Average income and transport hubs were also significant variables in the investigated crime categories. The article provides a practical demonstration and assessment of the use of high-resolution satellite data to examine the association between urban density and two common types of crime and offers reflections about the use of satellite image data in crime analysis., QC 20240126

For-profit companies have begun competing with women’s shelters for ‘clients’ trying to escape violence. Using discourse theory, this study examines how 20 private shelters describe their business. The analysis shows that private shelters describe themselves as: (1) having a broad expertise and target group: (2) being able to tend to the individual needs of any client; and (3) being highly available and flexible. We understand this as an expression of a neoliberal market discourse and as a way to differentiate themselves from women’s shelters. This may put pressure on women’s shelters to provide similar ‘inclusion’, availability and flexibility. Furthermore: (4) private shelters contribute to shaping a desirable neoliberal subject, that is, a self-reliant woman; and (5), by articulating needs as individual and inherently mundane, they lean more towards ‘providing accommodation’ than addressing the particularities of (gendered) violence.

Background: The use of snus among Swedish youth has increased, posing a potential risk of long-term consequences in adulthood. Objective & Research Questions: The aim of the study is to analyze snus usage among high school students and identify influencing factors as well as reasons for quitting. The research questions investigate the prevalence of snus use, differences based on gender and socioeconomic background, disparities in self-esteem between snus users and non-users, and factors motivating students to quit snus. Method: The study adopts a cross-sectional design and employs a survey to collect data from respondents. The method involves convenience sampling from four high schools, and the survey's validity was established through a pilot study. A total of 112 high school students participated in the survey, and the analyses included t-tests and chi-square tests. Results: The results reveal that the majority of high school students, 65.2%, have used snus primarily due to influence from friends. No significant differences were observed in terms of ethnicity, self-esteem, or gender-related snus habits, except for a higher percentage of boys citing friends outside of school as a reason compared to girls. Respondents considering quitting mention economic and health-related reasons as motivations. Conclusion: Elevated snus use among high school students highlights the need for preventive interventions, which may need to be tailored differently. The study's limitations, including overrepresentation of high socioeconomic status, require cautious interpretation. Syfte & frågeställning: Studiens syfte är att analysera snusanvändning bland gymnasieelever och identifierapåverkande faktorer samt orsaker till att sluta. Frågeställningarna undersöker prevalensen av snusanvändning, skillnader baserat på kön och socioekonomisk bakgrund, skillnader i självkänsla mellan snusare och icke-snusare samt faktorer som motiverar elever att sluta snusa. Metod: Studiens är av en tvärsnittsdesign och har använt enkätundersökning för att samla in data frånr espondenterna. Metoden inkluderade bekvämlighetsurval från fyra gymnasieskolor och enkäten validerades genom en pilotstudie. Totalt deltog 112 gymnasielever i enkäten och analyserna omfattade t-test och chi-tvåtest. Resultat: Resultaten visar att majoriteten av gymnasieeleverna har snusat 65,2% främst på grund avpåverkan från vänner. Inga signifikanta skillnader kunde observeras mellan etnicitet, självkänsla eller könsskillnader och snusvanor. Förutom att en större andel killar angav vänner utanför skolan som en anledning jämfört med tjejer. Respondenter som överväger att sluta nämner ekonomiska och hälsomässiga skäl som motiveringar. Slutsats: Hög snusanvändning bland gymnasieelever pekar på behovet av preventiva insatser och att dessa insatser kan behövas varieras beroende på elevgrupp. Studiens begränsningar, inklusive överrepresentation av hög socioekonomi, kräver försiktig tolkning. Vi lever i ett samhälle där teknik och internet tar alltmer plats i vårt dagliga liv, särskilthos barn. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hurvillkoren sett ut för den ideella barnrättsorganisationen ECPAT Sveriges förebyggandearbete mot sexuell exploatering av barn på nätet. För att undersöka detta genomförs endiskursanalys. Studien har ett kvalitativt förhållningssätt och bygger på ECPATSveriges verksamhetsberättelser mellan åren 2005–2022. De identifierade diskurserna ärekonomisk diskurs, utbildningsdiskurs, juridisk diskurs, globaliseringsdiskurs ochteknisk diskurs. Diskurserna analyseras med en diskursteori inspirerad av MichelFoucault (1972). Resultaten av analysen visade att villkoren präglas av både utmaningaroch möjligheter som främst kännetecknas av den tekniska utvecklingen i samhället,attityder gentemot problematiken och barns digitala verklighet, samt samarbeten medolika institutioner, civilsamhällsaktörer och allmänheten. This contributes to an accessibility that can be positive in many ways, but that also can lead to a lot of challenges. The aim of thisstudy is to examine the conditions of the non-profit children’s rights organizationECPAT Sweden’s preventive work against sexual exploitation of children online, byconducting a discourse analysis. The study has a qualitative approach and is based onECPAT Sweden’s activity reports between the years of 2005-2022. The identifieddiscourses are economic discourse, education discourse, law discourse, globaldiscourse, and technical discourse. The discourses are analysed with a discourse theoryinspired by Michel Foucault (1972). The results of the analysis show that the conditionsare characterised by both challenges and opportunities which are mainly defined by thetechnical development in society, attitudes towards the problem and children’s digitalreality, and collaborations with various institutions, civil society actors and the public.We noticed a lack in previous research addressing the commercialization of childpornography and payment methods, especially new ones, that are used to purchase childpornography online. Finally, further research within the subject of sexual exploitation ofchildren online is requested as it is a major and current social problem.

This project explores the impact of a mobile website (MWS) designed to enhance knowledge and interest in local history among residents of Eberswalde as a sample for an Eastern German post-communist city. It aims to strengthen the sense of regional identity and attachment, potentially affecting their decision to remain in or leave the region. The MWS features digitised old postcards, new images, audio memories, short films, and text about historical locations preceding communism in East Germany. Building on previous research showing that interest and engagement in local history can raise, i.a., individuals 'place attachment', 'local identity', and 'regional pride', the research's theoretical frame joins Stefaniak et al.'s (2017), Twells et al.'s (2018) and Pearson and Plevyak's (2020) research outcomes. It groups them into six spheres of effects (SoEs) and reorders them into six individual personal growth dimensions (IPGDs). While the SoEs represent a researcher's bird's-eye view, the IPGDs aim to understand individuals from a frog's-eye viewpoint. The MWS was developed using WordPress with the Divi Editor. A local choir of approximately 35 members critically accompanied the development process, from naming the domain to creating and initial testing a prototype for a location page, which then served as a template for subsequent locations. Subsequently, the MWS was evaluated on-site by five participating local individuals who were not part of the initial testing by the choir members and had at least one family member who experienced the region under communist rule. They were observed during this process, and audio notes were taken. Approximately one to two weeks later, each participant was interviewed using a retrospective semi-structured interview exploring their experiences and any possible perceptual changes regarding their local history. One of the main tasks of the armed forces is to recruit and select future soldiers and to identify potential officers. However, these procedures may have a wider societal impact beyond the borders of the military organization itself. This study aims to examine how compatible assessments of military leadership potential are with those in the labor market. Using longitudinal data concerning a large cohort of Swedish males who underwent mustering during the early 1970s, we analyzed the association between officer suitability assessments and managerial role occupancy at age 50 to 55, while controlling for socio-demographic factors in childhood and adulthood. We found a high level of predictability, whereby those who were ranked highest were four times more likely to hold managerial positions than those with the lowest ranking. Results are discussed in relation to perceptions about leadership skills and possible institutional isomorphism between the armed forces and other societal organizations.

We study how exposure of employers to immigrants, both at the market and at the individual firm level, mitigates immigrant-native disparities. We use administrative employee-employer matched data from Portugal, which provides a unique setting given that it experienced almost no immigration until the early 2000s followed by substantial immigration waves. Focusing on the evolution of market wages across successive immigration cohorts, we find that increased employer exposure to immigrant groups can account for up to 25% of the wage convergence between immigrants and natives over the last two decades. We also document that individual-level exposure of firms to immigrants plays an important role, influencing future hiring and remuneration of immigrants. Our results provide new insights into how barriers to hiring different worker groups shape economic inequality, with novel implications for integration policies.

Background: Assuring that emergency health care (EHC) is accessible is a key objective for health care planners. Conventional accessibility analysis commonly relies on resident population data. However, the allocation of resources based on stationary population data may lead to erroneous assumptions of population accessibility to EHC. Method: Therefore, in this paper, we calculate population accessibility to emergency departments in Sweden with a geographical information system based network analysis. Utilizing static population data and dynamic population data, we investigate spatiotemporal patterns of how static population data over- or underestimates population sizes derived from temporally dynamic population data. Results: Our findings show that conventional measures of population accessibility tend to underestimate population sizes particularly in rural areas and in smaller ED’s catchment areas compared to urban, larger ED’s—especially during vacation time in the summer. Conclusions: Planning based on static population data may thus lead to inequitable distributions of resources. The aim of this paper is to, based on official statements in public documents as well as statements and opinions in media, identify how different perspectives that appear in the debate about the green transformation can be understood and justified in Norway and Sweden with a specific focus on land use. It is assumed that these perspectives can be linked to fundamental values such as for example anthropocentrism or ecocentrism. Given that different perspectives on land use can be identified, the paper also identify what type of policy instruments the literature suggests has a potential to bridge the different perspectives. The literature acknowledges traditional policy instruments (regulatory, economic and informative) including spatial planning, but also suggest testing more innovative policy instruments within the realm of economic incentives, information, and voluntary instruments, to mitigate land use conflicts in the context of green transformation.

The purpose of the article is to explore, through comparative analysis, how different objectives within the universities influence the process when implementing programmes with a gender-theoretical orientation for women researchers and leaders. In the Nora programme, with an indivi- dual objective, gender theory is repeatedly rejected by the participants, as the structural perspective in the theories collides with the participants’ idea of themselves and their organization. In Svea, with a structural objective, gender theory instead becomes a useful tool for the partici- pants. The objective also has a significant effect on the participants ability to cope with resistance from the academic environment. In both pro- grammes, participants experienced resistance that triggered frustration. In Svea, the frustration that arose could be repaired by connecting to gender theory, whereas in Nora the participants could not interpret the resistance from a power perspective and were trapped in frustration. When objec- tives focus on the individual, the problem of inequality is interpreted at the individual level, i.e., that the problem is women, and that women are still to blame.
