Evidence from this laboratory and others indicates that endotoxin shock is a form of anaphylactic shock mediated through natural antibody and characterized by complement-fixation in vivo; that resistance to endotoxin shock can be increased by the acquisition of further antibody; and that intestinal bacteria may influence susceptibility to endotoxin by their effect on the production of both natural and acquired antibody. The immunologic factors in the production of endotoxin shock were investigated further by the following studies: (1) A Systematic Analysis of the Reaction Between Endotoxin and Complement; (2) Immunization Against Bacteremic Shock by Feeding Viable E. coli; (3) The Influence of Immunilogic Paralysis Induced by Mitomycin C on Susceptibility to Endotoxin; and (4) A Comparison of the Toxic and Antigenic Properties of Endotoxin Purified by Density Gradient Zone Ultracentrifugation.

A comparative study is reported on a boron phosphate silica type composition prepared as a glass, a devitrified body and hot pressed body. The electrical properties versus temperature and frequency indicate that this type composition approaches fused silica. Specimens of lanthanum aluminate were prepared by sintering and hot pressing. A dielectric constant of 25 was obtained for this material. The as-received strength of random samples of 10 types of micromodule wafers is reported. The two approaches to making barium titanate glass are the use of new glass formers and faster frit quenching methods in order to produce a good glass free of devitrified material. A calcium boro-aluminate frit was substituted as the glass former and the flame spraying of 100% BaTiO3 was tried both in an oxygen-hydrogen flame and an oxygenacetylene flame. A study was initiated to attempt to remove the glass forming oxide (B2O3) from the barium titanate-boric oxide frit. The object is to increase the barium titanate content in order to improve the dielectric properties of this type of ferroelectric.

The paper presents clinical observations, physiological data and pathological findings that have been collected on a series of baboons exposed to controlled occipital impacts under local anesthesia. This acute experimental trauma study was accomplished to establish trauma mechanisms and compare the relative effects of impact with supported heads and heads capable of responding to impact in a controlled horizontal A-P plane.

Summarized data resulting from a detailed review of fatal and non-fatal aerial applicator accidents are presented with an analysis of the factors underlying the accidents. The role of toxic substance is evaluated. Preventive and newer therapeutic approaches are given.
