This report summarizes the results of the program of implementation of an RLU Demonstration System. This system allows the evaluation of the most unique parts of the RLU and has facilitated the resolution of problem areas in the RLU design. Enhancements to the RLU functional design are presented and an implementation plan for an RLU prototype is proposed. The purpose of this manual is to provide a guide for the use and operation of the Remote Link Unit Demonstration System (RLUDS) without the details of the design of the system. The sections of this manual provide information on: inspection of the equipment to verify a correct physical configuration, external cable connections, procedures for operation. This manual provides all the details necessary for operations of the RLUDS, assuming the user is generally knowledgeable of the concept, purpose, and configuration of the RLU and its major components. Both background information and design details may be found in the Design Manual (Part III)., See also Part 3, Volume 1, AD-A124 621 and Rept. nos. This report is Part III, Design Manual for the RLU Demonstration System, and provides detailed information on the hardware and software design. Volume 2 contains the following Appendices: Source Code Tape Directory; Hardware Schematics; and Software Flow Charts.

This document is a design manual for the Remote Link Unit Demonstration System (RLUDS). The Remote Link Unit (RLU) is a new design concept for remote terminals. This document contains detailed design information on the RLUDS. The RLUDS described in this design manual is an operational hardware breadboard prototype that performs most of the important RLU functions. This effort has demonstrated the feasibility of implementation of the Link Module (LM), the Interface Configuration Adapter (ICA), the Electronic Nameplate (NP) and the Interface between the Link Module and the Link Manager. The Link Manager (LMG) was simulated with a PDP-11 computer. The extent of RLU implementation encompassed by the demonstration unit is illustrated. This document is part of the John Cocke papers that “contains the personal, business, and legal papers of this 19th century Marengo County, Alabama, plantation owner, who not only managed his own plantation but also served as an agent for various family members. Financial papers consist of receipts from grocers and suppliers detailing purchases (including slave purchases); account books for his blacksmith shop; and labor accounts with payroll. There are cotton records that contain correspondence as well as accounts.”
