The present study was carried out to evaluate the performance of two gerbera hybrids IIHR15-7 and IIHR16-8 along with their parents and a commercial check, for flower quality traits under polyhouse condition in completely randomized block design, during 2016-17 to 2018-19. The hybrids IIHR15-7 and IIHR16-8 had been developed through the half-sib method of breeding with IIHR9 and Arka Ashwa, respectively, as parents. Data for three years were pooled and analyzed statistically. In both hybrids IIHR15-7 and IIHR16-8, all the quantitative traits were found to be on par with the respective commercial checks. They had novel flower colour (as per RHS Colour Chart) i.e. NN155A, White Group for IIHR 15-7 and 65A Red Purple Group for IIHR16-8, with semi-double and double forms of flowers, respectively. These hybrids are suitable for cut-flower and flower arrangement purposes. Further, these hybrids will be useful for developing new gerbera hybrids with novel traits.

Among the other fungal diseases of gerbera, powdery mildew disease causes decisive damage to the ornamental cut flower crop, thereby decline in the industrial value of the crop. Symptom of the disease include as white powdery mat on the upper surface of leaf lamina that gradually turned pale yellow to brown. Powdery mildew existed in two locations of Wayanad viz., Ambalavayal and Chulliyode where highest per cent disease severity (PDS) of 50.72 was observed at Chulliyode and 47.2 per cent was observed at Ambalavayal during November-December. In Ambalavayal, the disease was non-significant and no correlation existed between weather parameters and disease progress. But, in Chulliyode, correlation studies revealed that it was significant with positive correlation to relative humidity and a reverse relation existed with temperature and rainfall. The weather data clearly depicts that at a low rainfall of 96 mm and above average relative humidity of 80.27 per cent during November-December was the congenial factor influencing the disease development. But during summer, decline in relative humidity (78.37%) and rainfall (63.13 mm) caused a slight reduction in mean per cent disease severity of 49.12 per cent and 33.6 per cent at Chulliyode and Ambalavayal respectively. Morohological and cultural characters of the pathogen depicts presence of two distinct organism viz., Golovinomyces cichoracearum (Erysiphe cichoracearum) and Podosphaera sp. as the causative organism of the disease. Golovinomyces cichoracearumproduced hyaline, septate mycelia with globose conidia with irregular peripheral end formed in a chain and Podosphaera sp. produced superficial, hyaline, coenocytic mycelium with oval or ellipsoidal, catenate conidia with dimension ranging from 22.1-30.18 x 13.36-18.08ìm formed in unbran

Gerbera hybrida is one of the top five cut flowers. It is well-known to people for its variation in flower color and patterning. Gerbera breeding at the moment is done using conventional methods which are based on a phenotypic selection. This has drawbacks in breeding speed and efficiency, especially for complex traits like disease resistance. Gerbera gray mold, promoted by high humidity during the production in greenhouses or by an accumulation of condensate during transportation, is a considerable threat to the gerbera production. Gerbera gray mold is caused by Botrytis cinerea and plant resistance to B. cinerea is considered to be a polygenic trait that needs the contribution of multiple loci, and on top of that is highly affected by the environment. Conventional breeding might be inefficient for improving Botrytis resistance in gerbera. In this study, the transcriptomes of four parents of two gerbera populations were sequenced using Illumina paired-end sequencing. Transcriptome data provides a resource for genetic dissection and an insight to explore gene functions for this ornamental crop. To identify the QTL regions leading to the phenotypic variation in Botrytis resistance, and establishing a relationship between marker genotype and phenotypic variation for marker assisted selection (MAS), genetic linkage maps were constructed with SNP markers in the two F1 segregating populations. A total of 20 QTLs were identified in the parental maps of the two populations. The number of QTLs found and the explained variance of most QTLs detected reflects the complex mechanism of Botrytis disease response. Narrowing down the QTL region and identifying the causal gene(s) underlying a QTL could maximize the effective use of MAS in breeding. Homologs of known functional genes involved in Botrytis resistance from other species were obtained in gerbera and SNP markers identified and mapped. Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium was supplemented with various growth regulators at different concentrations for callus induction and organogenesis. Newly emerging leaves of Gerbera cv. Rosalin were used as explants. Experimental results showed that maximum rate (74.07%) of formation of callus with good growth was recorded on MS medium supplemented with 2.0mgL-1 2,4-D + BAP 0.5mgL-1. Best shoot regeneration (57.8 %) with maximum shoot number (12.0) was achieved on with BAP 2.0mgL-1 + NAA 0.5mgL-1 fortified MS medium. Maximum (66.7 %) and earliest (12.3 days) root formation in shoots was recorded on IBA 3.0mgL-1is 1/2MS media. Survival rate of regenerated plantlets was maximum (73.33 %) in the potting mixture containing garden soil, sand and vermicompost (1:1:1).

The evolutionary success of Asteraceae, the largest family of flowering plants, has been attributed to the unique inflorescence architecture of the family, which superficially resembles an individual flower. Here, we show that Asteraceae inflorescences (flower heads, or capitula) resemble solitary flowers not only morphologically but also at the molecular level. By conducting functional analyses for orthologs of the flower meristem identity genes LEAFY (LFY) and UNUSUAL FLORAL ORGANS (UFO) in Gerbera hybrida, we show that GhUFO is the master regulator of flower meristem identity, while GhLFY has evolved a novel, homeotic function during the evolution of head-like inflorescences. Resembling LFY expression in a single flower meristem, uniform expression of GhLFY in the inflorescence meristem defines the capitulum as a determinate structure that can assume floral fate upon ectopic GhUFO expression. We also show that GhLFY uniquely regulates the ontogeny of outer, expanded ray flowers but not inner, compact disc flowers, indicating that the distinction of different flower types in Asteraceae is connected with their independent evolutionary origins from separate branching systems.

Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii H. Bolus ex. Hooker) is an important ornamental flower in global flower market. Consumers are attracted by its bright colour and beautiful shape; but as with other cut flowers, quality loss after harvest is a major concern. Moreover, in certain cultivars, its vase life is dramatically shortened by a stem bending problem. ‘Navy’, an attractive new variety, caused customer complaints resulting from its short vase life, as a result of a high incidence of stem bending. In this thesis, 2 – 6% sucrose was shown to be an effective preservative for preventing ‘Navy’ from stem bending. Furthermore, deeper research showed sucrose improved stem rigidity and did so by improving lignification of sclerenchyma fibres in the phloem caps and interfascicular region. Once stem bending has been prevented by sucrose, it is also possible to delay underlying flower senescence. Certain antibacterial materials were tested and a preservative solution containing 4% sucrose and colloidal silver (3 or 5 ppm) was shown to be the best. This may be mainly due to effective control of bacteria and resulting reduction in water stress; but also it may delay flower senescence by inhibiting ethylene action (although most gerbera varieties that have been tested are ethylene insensitive). Just sucrose and colloidal silver is sufficient to keep ‘Navy’ flowers alive for three or four weeks; which should be enough for consumer demand. There is quite limited knowledge on the mechanism of gerbera flower senescence. The sequence of ‘Navy’ senescence was shown to involve first a change in head angle which always occurred on day 11 after harvest. Water uptake mostly started to be affected from day 13 to 15. Most of the senescenceassociated colour changes, including the values of ‘L’, ‘a’, ‘b’, began to change during day 15 to 20. Sinds het najaar van 2009 is er onderzoek gedaan naar Het Nieuwe Telen (HNT) in de Gerberateelt, gevolgd door meerdere valorisatietrajecten in de praktijk. Er was binnen de sector behoefte om deze kennis centraal bijeen te brengen, wat ook is geslaagd. De drie systemen van HNT zorgen niet voor een extra kwalitatieve verbetering in de vorm van minder bloemsmet en rotkoppen. De verwachting in 2012 was dat met slurven onderdoor er meer luchtbeweging zou zijn door het gewas en een drogend effect. Het omgekeerde bleek het geval: bij de luchtslurf onderdoor is het VD rondom de bloem lager wat kan leiden tot smet. Bij luchtslurven bovendoor bleek dit niet het geval. Voor wat betreft rotkoppen kan niet zondermeer gezegd worden dan een van de systemen de voorkeur geniet. Een hypothese is dat uitstraling in de nacht in negatieve zin bijdraagt aan suikerrot, doordat op specifieke momenten er lokaal onvoldoende verdamping is in de bloem. Het optreden van suikerrot is nog steeds een niet getackeld teeltprobleem in Gerbera.

Dat trips een enorm probleem is in de sierteelt onder glas is geen nieuws meer. In de meeste gevallen gaat het dan om de Californische trips, een soort met een sterke voorkeur voor bloemen. De laatste jaren duikt er steeds vaker een andere polyfage trips op, de Echinothrips americanus. Deze typische bladbewonende trips kan in sierteeltgewassen zoals gerbera en roos behoorlijk schade geven als er niet tijdig wordt ingegrepen. In onderzoek is nog eens nauwkeurig gekeken naar de bestrijding met een aantal soorten roofmijten en roofwantsen.

De gerbera is zeer gevoelig voor de waterkwaliteit. Telersvereniging Colours of Nature besloot enkele jaren geleden om het onderwerp prioriteit te geven. De leden werken nu alle met een water- APK. De ervaringen zijn positief: dankzij een verbeterde waterkwaliteit doen de gewassen het een stuk beter.

FloraHolland en Wageningen UR Glastuinbouw hebben afgelopen jaar proeven gedaan met plasma geactiveerd water. Ze bevestigen de ontsmettende werking van dit milieuvriendelijke middel. Grote uitdaging is echter om deze resultaten te vertalen naar praktijktoepassingen.

Since 2014 Dutch gerbera grower Reijm Nieuwerkerk has been using a system to actively ventilate the greenhouse air as part of its Next Generation Growing strategy. The continuous refreshment of the air provides an optimal microclimate at the bottom of the crop. The company is producing the same quality gerberas with less energy input.

Het blijft een puzzel: welke middelen, in welk gewas en op welk moment zet je als teler in tegen meeldauw. Zeker in sierteeltgewassen vormt deze biotrofe schimmel een structurele bron van inkomstenderving. De schimmel zelf en de middelen daartegen zijn uitgebreid onderzocht. Echter, de invloed van praktijk- en productieomstandigheden op de gevoeligheid van de plant is onvoldoende belicht. Een nieuw onderzoek moet hieraan invulling geven.

Bij nieuwe productiemethoden van biogas en -olie blijft als restproduct biochar over. Dat is geschikt als toevoeging in potgronden, blijkt uit lab- en kasproeven. Ook kan dit restproduct wellicht dienen als drager voor nuttige bodemorganismen, die daardoor beter aanslaan.

Sinds medio 2015 maakt een groep gerberatelers gebruik van een nieuw pakket voor gewasregistratie. Volgens de initiatiefnemers en ontwikkelaars vormt het pakket een handig hulpmiddel voor teeltsturing en bedrijfsvergelijking. Dat is ook de ervaring van teler Eric Theunissen.

In welke andere bedrijfstak kun je nu elk jaar uitgebreid rondkijken en alle vragen stellen die bij je opkomen? De formule van Kom in de Kas is uniek en het evenement trekt consequent veel bezoekers. Als er al een bedreiging is, dan komt die van binnenuit de sector: de angst voor insleep van ziekten neemt lichtjes toe.

Lage prijzen en hoge financiële lasten zijn een lastige combinatie. Het maakte dat bij Zwethco, minigerberabedrijf in Honselersdijk, ruim een jaar geleden het roer om ging. De broers Ronald en Erik van der Lans waren gewend om alles zelf op te lossen, maar dit konden ze niet alleen. Met hulp van buitenaf is de structuur aangepast en het bedrijf opnieuw winstgevend gemaakt. “Ik ga iedere dag weer met plezier naar mijn werk. De ambitie is terug.”

Wie bij de minigerberatelers Aad en Ronald van Veen de kas in loopt, ziet niet de gebruikelijke bonte kleurenzee van kleine vakken met veel verschillende kleuren, maar grote vakken in één kleur. Net als hun collega’s van coöperatie Colours of Nature hebben ze zich gespecialiseerd in slechts enkele rassen. Dankzij deze specialisatie kunnen ze grote, uniforme partijen leveren. En omdat ze zich met de teelt op specifieke rassen richten, kunnen ze de kwaliteit en productie verbeteren.

Gerberateler Batist uit Maasdijk voorzag een van de kassen dit voorjaar van een nieuw, beweegbaar klimaatscherm met verbeterde lichtdiffuse eigenschappen. Vanwege de lagere directe instraling staat het gewas minder snel bloot aan stress en kan er op zonnige dagen per saldo meer licht in de kas worden toegelaten. In combinatie met de betere lichtspreiding en verminderde schaduwwerking resulteert dit in een generatiever gewas dat meer produceert.

Gerbera grower Batist, of Maasdijk, the Netherlands, fitted a new, moveable climate screen with improved light diffusing properties into one of its greenhouses this spring. Due to less direct radiation, the crop is less quickly exposed to stress and ultimately on sunny days more light can be allowed to enter the greenhouse. The combination of better light distribution and less shadow results in a more generative crop that yields more.

Veel belichtingsinstallaties in de gerberateelt bestaan nog uit 600W armaturen. Bij vervanging worden vaak 1000W SON-T lampen gebruikt. De praktijk laat zien dat onder een hogere lichtintensiteit, de gerbera meer toegevoegd groeilicht nodig heeft voor de afsplitsing en ontwikkeling van één enkele bloem. Het lijkt er dan ook op dat de efficiency van de plant terugloopt. Kan led een oplossing bieden voor energiebesparing en sturing van het gewas?

The Ventilationjet system is used to dehumidify a greenhouse with a fully closed blackout screen during the night. Gerbera producer Zuijderwijk and Witzier in the Netherlands uses this equipment but was not satisified with the duhumidification capacity since the RH was rising to unwanted levels. That forced him to pull a gap in the screens but that resulted in local temperature drops and botrytis. In this research project the cause of the high humidity was found to be the result of a combination of unwanted transpiration from the floor area and a limited air supply through the screens as a result of a turbulent flow in the outlet of the fans. The problem was fixed by developing a new version of the Ventilationjet where the air was supplied through a vertical duct instead of a simple round opening in the screens. Also the air supply capacity was increased from 3 m3/m2.hr to 14 m3/ m2.hr with a speed controllable fan. In addition, measures were taken to prevent humid, warm air to reach the area above the blackout screen by guiding this air to a central opening in the screen above the concrete path in the middle of the greenhouse. The ventilation windows above this ventilation gap in the screen release this humid air to the outside world, without causing a temperature drop since the fans create an overpressure., Ventilationjets worden ingezet om in de nacht een (energie)scherm volledig te kunnen sluiten en toch te kunnen ontvochtigen. Op het gerbera bedrijf van Zuijderwijk en Witzier in Bergschenhoek heeft men al enige tijd ervaring met dit systeem. Tijdens het gebruik viel op dat de vochtafvoer zodanig klein was dat de RV naar ongewenste hoogte steeg bij een 100% sluiting van het verduisteringsscherm. Door het trekken van een kier kon dat probleem weliswaar opgelost worden, maar daardoor ontstaat lokale kouval waardoor de kans op botrytis toeneemt. In dit onderzoek is getracht de oorzaken te achterhalen van de te lage capaciteit, dit op te lossen en vervolgens te testen welke invloed een aangepast systeem heeft op het klimaat en de energiebehoefte van de kas. Gebleken is dat de oorzaak van de lage capaciteit gezocht moet worden in een combinatie van een te lage inblaascapaciteit door turbulentie en luchtweerstand aan de blaaszijde van de ventilator en door extra verdamping vanuit de kasbodem. Vervolgens is een verbeterd ontwerp van de ventilator gemaakt, maar ook deze bleek teveel luchtweerstand te ondervinden van het gat in de schermen. Uiteindelijk is het gat in het scherm vervangen door een koker die aan de tralie wordt bevestigd. Ook is het toerental van de motor van de inblaasventilator variabel gemaakt en is er boven het middenpad een opening in het scherm gemaakt waarlangs vochtige kaslucht zodanig uit de kas kan worden afgevoerd dat de aangezogen lucht boven het scherm zo droog en zo koud mogelijk blijft. Na deze aanpassingen bleek het goed mogelijk om de RV in de kas te beheersen met 100% gesloten scherm. Na aftrek van de stroom van de ventilatoren resteerde een energiebesparing van 15% ten opzichte van een systeem waarbij via kieren wordt gelucht.

This study explored new possibilities to control whiteflies in greenhouse ornamental crops with omnivorous predatory bugs and volatiles. Besides the well-known Macrolophus pygmaeus, we tested 4 new species of predatory bugs: Dicyphus errans, Dicyphus eckerleini, Dicyphus maroccanus and Dicyphus tamaninii. We assessed both their potential to control whiteflies and their possible plant damaging effects through plant feeding. The best control of whiteflies was achieved by the species M. pygmaeus, D. tamaninii and D. maroccanus. Significant flower damage was only observed for the predator M. pygmaeus. The degree of flower damage depended strongly on the gerbera cultivar, but damage was observed for both large-flowered and small-flowered types. All 5 species of predatory bugs were able to establish in a winter crop of 2 gerbera cultivars and the exotic plant Lantana camara. The most promising candidate predatory bug for biological control in gerbera is D. maroccanus. This species established well on the 2 tested gerbera cultivars, gave in all cases an excellent control of pests and no significant plant damage was observed. The predatory bugs gave, besides whiteflies, a good control of Echinothrips and in some cases a suppression of aphids and western flower thrips. The volatile limonene showed no significant effect on the oviposition of tobacco and greenhouse whiteflies. Neither did they repel adults of these whiteflies. The mixture of (E)-2-hexenal and 3-hexen-1-ol did not induce a significant attraction response of the adult whiteflies., In dit onderzoek is gekeken naar nieuwe mogelijkheden voor bestrijding van wittevlieg in de sierteelt onder glas met omnivore roofwantsen en geuren. Naast de bekende Macrolophus pygmaeus zijn voor deze studie 4 nieuwe soorten roofwantsen verzameld, namelijk Dicyphus errans, Dicyphus eckerleini, Dicyphus maroccanus en Dicyphus tamaninii. Deze zijn beoordeeld op hun potentie om wittevlieg te bestrijden en tegelijkertijd op hun mogelijke negatieve effecten op de productie van gerberabloemen. Wittevlieg werd het meest effectief bestreden door M. pygmaeus, D. tamaninii en D. maroccanus. Significante bloemschade in gerbera is alleen aangetoond voor de roofwants M. pygmaeus. De schadegevoeligheid blijkt sterk te verschillen tussen cultivars, maar trad op bij zowel groot- als kleinbloemigen. Alle 5 de soorten roofwantsen vestigden zich goed gedurende een winterperiode op gerbera en de kuipplant Lantana camara. Van alle roofwantsen lijkt D. maroccanus de meest interessante kandidaat te zijn voor biologische bestrijding in gerbera. Er was een goede vestiging op de 2 geteste cultivars, in alle gevallen een goede plaagbestrijding en er is géén significante schade geconstateerd. Naast wittevlieg, gaven de roofwantsen een goede bestrijding van Echinothrips en er was een nevenwerking op bladluis en californische trips. De geurstof limoneen had géén significant effect op de eileg of afstoting van kas- en tabakswittevlieg. Ook werden de wittevliegen niet aangetrokken door een mengsel van (E)-2-hexanal en 3-hexen-1-ol.

An “emission model” has been developed for use in the assessment of plant protection products (PPP’s) for admission. The “ emission model “ should predict the size of the emissions of PPP’s and provide tools for the effective use. A comparison was made of model calculations with field measurements after dosing two pesticides. In two experiments, data were collected over the course of the concentrations of two dosed pesticides with the active substance pymetrozine and propamocarb. Practical measurements have been carried out on a pepper holding company and a gerbera holding. After dosing the two agents the concentration gradients in the water were measured during 4 weeks. In a laboratory set-up , the agents have been added to three treatments , namely, gerbera mature plants , cut-off gerbera plants and new rockwool blocks. Subsequently, the leaching of PPP’s in the drainage water was measured over three days. Model calculations and practical measurements were too far apart to indicate that the model is generically applicable. There is insufficient understanding of the processes, such as dosing, adsorption, degradation and adsorption to explain the results. In a small follow-up study in a cucumber crop at Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture in Bleiswijk the behaviour of three via dripirrigation dosed chemical agents (dimethomorph, fluopyram, imidacloprid) was followed in detail., Er is een ‘emissiemodel’ ontwikkeld om te gebruiken bij de beoordeling van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen voor toelating. Het ‘emissiemodel’ moet de omvang van de emissies kunnen voorspellen en handvatten geven voor het effectief gebruik van middelen. Dit project heeft tot doel: Toetsing van de modelmatige benadering van emissie op praktijkschaal en het verwerven van inzicht in de belangrijkste emissiebepalende factoren in het model.

Om inzicht te krijgen in het effect van nieuwe belichtingssystemen op de productie, is Gerbera, cv. Kimseywerd gekweekt onder SON-T (13 uur dag), hybride (9-12 uur dag) en onder LED (10.5 uur dag) belichting, metoplopende etmaaltemperaturen. Het teeltsysteem met SON-T belichting bij koudere dag- en nachttemperaturenpresteerde lange tijd het beste voor wat betreft bloemproductie in vergelijking met de hybride en LEDbehandeling. Het lijkt er sterk op dat een voldoende lage etmaaltemperatuur, onder de 16°C, een versterkendeffect heeft op de generativiteit van een Gerbera gewas. Daglengte lijkt dan tot zekere hoogte ondergeschikt tezijn voor wat betreft aanleg van knoppen en scheuten. Een lagere kastemperatuur resulteerde in een langereuitgroeiduur van de bloemen met 2 dagen. Er kan veel energie bespaard worden bij de Gerberateelt. T.a.v.de referentie werd aan elektrische energie bespaard bij SON-T (28%), hybride (35%) en LED (41%), en voorwat betreft warmte energie bij SON-T (71%), hybride (59%) en LED (36%). Het totaal energiebesparing aanelektrische en warmte energie tezamen was voor SON-T 48%, hybride 46% en voor LED 39%. Het aantalGerbera taken dat geproduceerd werd per eenheid primaire energie was 18.6, 19.8 en 17.2 voor SON-T, hybrideen de LED teeltconcepten, respectievelijk.

Vervolgonderzoek moet meer duidelijkheid verschaffen over hun waarde voor de praktijk.

Doelstellingen van dit onderzoek: Effectiviteit testen van plasmawater als biocide in labtesten met een bacterie, Erwinia en een schimmel, Botrytis. Effectiviteit in de naoogst tegen Botrytis op gerberabloemen. About 30 months ago, Mans Flowers built a new nursery in the Dutch village of Brakel. Marius Mans took the opportunity to prepare the nursery for the future. He – together with his brother – is one of the first gerbera growers to have adopted The Next Generation Growing. They also contracted out and together developed the automated internal transport system. As a result they have achieved 15 to 20% savings on labour.

Suikerrot is een complexe ziekte, die nog weinig voorkomt in de teelt van gerbera. Het manifesteert zich als een witschuimende aantasting in het hart van de plant. Daarnaast verspreidt een aangetaste plant een weeëige zoete geur. Aandacht voor oorzaak en beheersing van deze ziekte.

Kwekerij Reijm Nieuwerkerk gebruikt sinds vorig jaar voor Het Nieuwe Telen een systeem waarbij de kaslucht actief wordt geventileerd. Het continu verversen van de lucht geeft een optimaal microklimaat onderin het gewas. Met minder energie-input produceert het bedrijf nu dezelfde kwaliteit gerbera’s.

Toen dit voorjaar verschillende middelen met dezelfde werkzame stof niet meer tegen slakken gebruikt mochten worden, was er even lichte paniek onder sommige siertelers, want in verschillende gewassen kan de naaktslak behoorlijk huishouden. Nu sinds juli Metarex Inov beschikbaar is, is er weer wat lucht gekomen in dit knelpunt in de gewasbescherming dat met name in het najaar speelt.

Assimilatiebelichting heeft veel invloed op het kasklimaat en – wanneer de elektriciteit zelf wordt opgewekt – op de efficiëntie van de energie-installatie. Door de aansturing van de belichtingsinstallatie te optimaliseren, valt er op beide terreinen winst te behalen. In twee praktijkcases leggen telers en hun toeleveranciers uit hoe zij dit realiseerden.

Lower concentration of BA (1.0 and 2.0 mg/l) with NAA induced the explants to form callus. On the other hand when the explants were cultured in higher concentration (5.0 mg/l) of BA produced shoots and 5.0 mg/l BA with 1.0 mg/l NAA was found to be the best for shoot proliferation of the three explants optimum response was obtained from flower buds. Further multiplication of shoots occurred upon transfer of shoot clumps to BA containing MS medium. Regenerated shoots were rooted in MS medium with indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) or indole-3-buteric acid (IBA) and maximum frequency (81%) of rooting with highest number (4) of roots per shoot was achieved in MS medium fortified with 0.3 mg/l IBA. The rooted shoots were acclimatized and successfully established in soil under natural environment with maximum 84% survivability.

Door toepassen van LED-belichting en de beperking tot 80 in plaats van 100 μmol belichting kunnen gerberatelers 30 procent energie besparen zonder een al te groot productieverlies, blijkt uit onderzoek. Lichtintegratie en tussenbelichting leveren voorlopig nog geen besparing op.

Sinds deze zomer is het groeimodel gerbera klaar voor gebruik door Nederlandse telers. Zij kunnen dan zelf met dit hulpmiddel aan de slag om bijvoorbeeld te zien wat hun oogst is op de korte termijn, maar ook teeltbeslissingen of investeringen toetsen.

Sinds september 2013 onderzoekt Wageningen UR Glastuinbouw samen met een groep telers de toepassingsmogelijkheden van led-belichting in de gerberateelt. De onderzoekers en telers hopen daarmee duidelijkheid te krijgen over de mogelijkheden van energiebesparing met diverse intensiteiten SON-T en ledbelichting boven en tussen het gewas.

Sinds deze zomer is het groeimodel gerbera klaar voor gebruik door Nederlandse telers. Zij kunnen dan zelf met dit hulpmiddel aan de slag om bijvoorbeeld te zien wat hun oogst is op de korte termijn, maar ook teeltbeslissingen of investeringen toetsen.
