Sensors based on chaotic oscillators have a simple design, combined with high sensitivity and energy efficiency. Among many developed schemes of such sensors, the promising one is based on the Duffing oscillator, which possesses a remarkable property of demonstrating chaotic oscillations only in the presence of a weak sine wave at the input. The main goal of this research was to evaluate the maximal sensitivity of a practically implemented metal detector based on the Duffing oscillator and compare its sensitivity with conventional sensors. To achieve high efficiency of the Duffing-based design, we proposed an algorithm which performs a bifurcation analysis of any chaotic system, classifies the oscillation modes and determines the system sensitivity to a change in different parameters. We apply the developed algorithm to improve the sensitivity of the electronic circuit implementing the Duffing oscillator, serving as a key part of a three-coil metal detector. We show that the developed design allows detecting the presence of metal objects near the coils more reliably than the conventional signal analysis techniques, and the developed detector is capable of sensing a large metal plate at distances up to 2.8 of the coil diameter, which can be considered a state-of-the-art result. © 2022 by the authors.

Memristor is a non-linear circuit element in which voltage-current relationship is determined by the previous values of the voltage and current, generally the history of the circuit. The nonlinearity in this component can be considered as a fractional-order form, which yields a fractional memristor (fracmemristor). In this paper, a fractional-order memristor in a chaotic oscillator is applied, while the other electronic elements are of integer order. The fractional-order range is determined in a way that the circuit has chaotic solutions. Also, the statistical and dynamical features of this circuit are analyzed. Tools like Lyapunov exponents and bifurcation diagram show the existence of multistability and antimonotonicity, two less common properties in chaotic circuits., Memristor je nelineární obvodový prvek, u kterého je relace napětí-proud dána předchozími hodnotami napětí a proudu, tedy historií obvodu. A multistable system is a double-edged sword which can have many benefits in some applications while in some other situations they can be even dangerous. In this paper, we introduce a new multistable two-dimensional oscillator. The forced version of this new oscillator can exhibit chaotic solutions which makes it much more exciting. Also, another scarce feature of this system is the complex basins of attraction for the infinite coexisting attractors. Some initial conditions can escape the whirlpools of nearby attractors and settle down in faraway destinations. The dynamical properties of this new system are investigated by the help of equilibria analysis, bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponents’ spectrum, and the plot of basins of attraction. The feasibility of the proposed system is also verified through circuit implementation.

Such an optimization concept is utilizing direct output iterations of chaotic system transferred into the required numerical range or it uses the chaotic dynamics for mapping the search space mostly within the local search techniques. This paper shows totally three groups of complex chaotic dynamics given by chaotic flows, oscillators and discrete maps. We review recent progress at AMRDEC in establishing an information-theoretic basis for designing efficient signals sources using unstable nonlinear electronic oscillators. Such oscillators appear to be generally useful in ranging and communications, particularly when used in a chaotic mode. Their primary advantages lie in their tremendous natural bandwidth and simplicity of construction. We show that the dynamics of these novel devices can be modeled as an information source of discrete symbols with fixed transition rules. The authors carried out experiments and supporting simulations on the dynamics of nonlinear complex systems with coupling, feedback, external forcing, and noise. The experiments were carried out with arrays of electrodes where: (1) the sites have measurable rates of reaction and can be addressed individually, (2) each site has rich dynamics depending on reactor parameters, and (3) the strength and length scales of coupling among the elements are controllable. The authors have provided a proof of the theory on the emergence of synchronization of coupled smooth oscillators. They demonstrate a phase transition and dependence of order on coupling strength predicted by the theory. Furthermore, they have shown a strong enhancement of fluctuations near the critical point and evidence that the principal predictions also hold for relaxation and weakly chaotic oscillators that often occur in physical systems. For very weak coupling of chaotic systems there are no qualitative effects on local chaotic dynamics. These small effects can nevertheless produce significant changes in the collective, or overall, behavior of the system and the collective behavior can be quite different from the local behavior. The authors also carried out experiments on the application of global coupling, periodic forcing, and feedback to arrays of chaotic electrochemical oscillators. By controlling the external variations or system feedback to influence spatial-temporal patterns and system behavior, desired states (synchronized behavior, cluster formation, etc.) can be obtained. The constructive effects of added noise on synchronization were studied in both small sets and in larger populations of coupled chaotic oscillators.
