Converting fatty acids into specialty chemicals is sustainable but hindered by the low efficiency and thermal instability of current oleic acid hydratases, along with mass transfer limitations in emulsion reactions. This study introduces an optimized continuous flow micro-reactor (CFMR) that efficiently transforms oleic acid at low (15 g·L-1) and high (50 g·L-1) concentrations, improving reaction efficiency and overcoming key conversion barriers. The first CFMR model showed reaction speeds surpassing traditional batch stirred tank reactors (BSTR). Optimizations were performed on three key components: liquid storage, mixer, and reaction section of the CFMR, with each round's best conditions carried into the next. This achieved a space-time yield of 597 g·L-1·d-1 at a 15 g·L-1 oleic acid load. To further enhance the yield, we optimized the emulsifier system to solve incomplete emulsification and developed a two-component feed microreactor (TCFMR) that addressed substrate and product inhibition at high loads, reaching a 91% conversion of 50 g·L-1 oleic acid in 30 minutes, with a space-time yield of 2312 g·L-1·d-1. The interface of two materials can harbor unexpected emergent phenomena. One example is interface-induced superconductivity. In this work, we employ molecular beam epitaxy to grow a series of heterostructures formed by stacking together two nonsuperconducting antiferromagnetic materials, an intrinsic antiferromagnetic topological insulator MnBi 2 Te 4 and an antiferromagnetic iron chalcogenide FeTe. Our electrical transport measurements reveal interface-induced superconductivity in these heterostructures. By performing scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy measurements, we observe a proximity-induced superconducting gap on the top surface of the MnBi 2 Te 4 layer, confirming the coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in the MnBi 2 Te 4 layer. Our findings will advance the fundamental inquiries into the topological superconducting phase in hybrid devices and provide a promising platform for the exploration of chiral Majorana physics in MnBi 2 Te 4 -based heterostructures.

Objective: The current guidelines and canonical norms of diagnosis or treatment for Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with sleep disorder are still conflicting and have not yet reached a consensus. This study aimed to unravel the most effective countermeasures between two categories (psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy) put forward by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP) respectively to treat PTSD individuals co-exist with sleep disorders., Methods: Four databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and APA PsyNet, were searched from inception to February 02, 2023., Results: Twenty articles with 24 Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and a total number of 1,647 participants were included. As demonstrated in the network meta-analysis comparison results, CBT-I (standardized mean differences (SMD) = -1.51,95% confidence interval (CI):-2.55 to -0.47), CBT-I plus IRT (SMD = -1.71, 95%CI:-3.39, -0.03), prazosin (SMD = -0.87,95%CI:-1.59 to -0.16) and hydroxyzine (SMD = -1.06, 95%CI: -1.94 to -0.19) significantly reduced PTSD symptoms compared with placebo. In contrast to placebo, CBT-I (SMD = -5.61,95%CI:-8.82 to -2.40) significantly improved sleep quality. For nightmare severity, IRT (SMD =-0.65, 95%CI:-1.00 to -0.31), prazosin (SMD = -1.20,95%CI:-1.72 to -0.67) and hydroxyzine (SMD = -0.98,95%CI:-1.58 to -0.37) significantly reduced nightmare severity in comparison with placebo., Conclusions: This study suggested that under most circumstances, psychotherapy namely CBT-I had a favorable profile, but pharmacotherapy with prazosin was effective in managing nightmare severity. The sole avail of CBT-I was recommended to improving sleep quality while CBT-I and CBT-I plus IRT showed excellent management of PTSD symptom severity. Exposure to CBT-I isrecommended for depression. The plateau phase transition in quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators corresponds to a quantum state wherein a single magnetic domain gives way to multiple domains and then reconverges back to a single magnetic domain. The layer structure of the sample provides an external knob for adjusting the Chern number C of the QAH insulators. Here, we employ molecular beam epitaxy to grow magnetic topological insulator multilayers and realize the magnetic field-driven plateau phase transition between two QAH states with odd Chern number change Δ C . We find that critical exponents extracted for the plateau phase transitions with Δ C = 1 and Δ C = 3 in QAH insulators are nearly identical. We construct a four-layer Chalker-Coddington network model to understand the consistent critical exponents for the plateau phase transitions with Δ C = 1 and Δ C = 3. This work will motivate further investigations into the critical behaviors of plateau phase transitions with different Δ C in QAH insulators.

Silkworm pupae, by-product of sericulture industry, is massively discarded. The degradation rate of silkworm pupae protein is critical to further employment, which reduces the impact of waste on the environment. Herein, magnetic Janus mesoporous silica nanoparticles immobilized proteinase K mutant T206M and Mucor circinelloides aspartic protease were employed in the co-degradation. The thermostability of T206M improved by enhancing structural rigidity (t 1/2 by 30 min and T 50 by 5 °C), prompting the degradation efficiency. At 65 °C and pH 7, degradation rate reached the highest of 61.7%, which improved by 26% compared with single free protease degradation. Besides, the immobilized protease is easy to separate and reuse, which maintains 50% activity after 10 recycles. Current approaches to treating inflammatory bowel disease focus on the suppression of overactive immune responses, the removal of reactive intestinal oxygen species, and regulation of the intestinal flora. However, owing to the complex structure of the gastrointestinal tract and the influence of mucus, current small-molecule and biologic-based drugs for treating colitis cannot effectively act at the site of colon inflammation, and as a result, they tend to exhibit low efficacies and toxic side effects. In this study, nanogel-based multistage NO delivery microcapsules are developed to achieve NO release at the inflammation site by targeting the inflammatory tissues using the nanogel. Surprisingly, oral administration of the microcapsules suppresses the growth of pathogenic bacteria and increases the abundance of probiotic bacteria. Metabolomics further show that an increased abundance of intestinal probiotics promotes the production of metabolites, including short-chain fatty acids and indole derivatives, which modulate the intestinal immunity and restore the intestinal barrier via the interleukin-17 and PI3K-Akt signaling pathways. Electrical stimulation (ES) is proposed as a therapeutic solution for managing chronic wounds. However, its widespread clinical adoption is limited by the requirement of additional extracorporeal devices to power ES-based wound dressings. In this study, a novel sandwich-structured photovoltaic microcurrent hydrogel dressing (PMH dressing) is designed for treating diabetic wounds. This innovative dressing comprises flexible organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells, a flexible micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) electrode, and a multifunctional hydrogel serving as an electrode-tissue interface. The PMH dressing is engineered to administer ES, mimicking the physiological injury current occurring naturally in wounds when exposed to light; thus, facilitating wound healing. In vitro experiments are performed to validate the PMH dressing's exceptional biocompatibility and robust antibacterial properties. In vivo experiments and proteomic analysis reveal that the proposed PMH dressing significantly accelerates the healing of infected diabetic wounds by enhancing extracellular matrix regeneration, eliminating bacteria, regulating inflammatory responses, and modulating vascular functions. Therefore, the PMH dressing is a potent, versatile, and effective solution for diabetic wound care, paving the way for advancements in wireless ES wound dressings., (© 2023 The Authors. Magnetic topological states refer to a class of exotic phases in magnetic materials with the non-trivial topological property determined by magnetic spin configurations. An example of such states is the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) state, which is a zero magnetic field manifestation of the quantum Hall effect. Current research in this direction focuses on QAH insulators with a thickness of less than 10 nm. Here, molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is employed to synthesize magnetic TI trilayers with a thickness of up to ≈106 nm. It is found that these samples exhibit well-quantized Hall resistance and vanishing longitudinal resistance at zero magnetic field. By varying the magnetic dopants, gate voltages, temperature, and external magnetic fields, the properties of these thick QAH insulators are examined and the robustness of the 3D QAH effect is demonstrated. The realization of the well-quantized 3D QAH effect indicates that the nonchiral side surface states of the thick magnetic TI trilayers are gapped and thus do not affect the QAH quantization. The 3D QAH insulators of hundred-nanometer thickness provide a promising platform for the exploration of fundamental physics, including axion physics and image magnetic monopole, and the advancement of electronic and spintronic devices to circumvent Moore's law., (© 2023 The Authors. The interface between two different materials can show unexpected quantum phenomena. In this study, we used molecular beam epitaxy to synthesize heterostructures formed by stacking together two magnetic materials, a ferromagnetic topological insulator (TI) and an antiferromagnetic iron chalcogenide (FeTe). We observed emergent interface-induced superconductivity in these heterostructures and demonstrated the co-occurrence of superconductivity, ferromagnetism, and topological band structure in the magnetic TI layer-the three essential ingredients of chiral topological superconductivity (TSC). The unusual coexistence of ferromagnetism and superconductivity is accompanied by a high upper critical magnetic field that exceeds the Pauli paramagnetic limit for conventional superconductors at low temperatures. These magnetic TI/FeTe heterostructures with robust superconductivity and atomically sharp interfaces provide an ideal wafer-scale platform for the exploration of chiral TSC and Majorana physics.

We propose an intrinsic mechanism to understand the even-odd effect, namely, opposite signs of anomalous Hall resistance and different shapes of hysteresis loops for even and odd septuple layers (SLs), of MBE-grown MnBi_{2}Te_{4} thin films with electron doping. The nonzero hysteresis loops in the anomalous Hall effect and magnetic circular dichroism for even-SLs MnBi_{2}Te_{4} films originate from two different antiferromagnetic (AFM) configurations with different zeroth Landau level energies of surface states. The complex form of the anomalous Hall hysteresis loop can be understood from two magnetic transitions, a transition between two AFM states followed by a second transition to the ferromagnetic state. Our model also clarifies the relationship and distinction between axion parameter and magnetoelectric coefficient, and shows an even-odd oscillation behavior of magnetoelectric coefficients in MnBi_{2}Te_{4} films.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of using marking and fusion image-guided technique with cone-beam CT (CBCT) in cases of kidney ruptured haemorrhage without extravascular leakage in digital subtraction angiography (DSA) images., Methods: This is a retrospective case-control study that included 43 patients who underwent transcatheter arterial embolization for kidney ruptured haemorrhage and difficult haemostasis. The patients were divided into two groups: the CBCT group (cases without extravascular leakage observed in angiography) and the control group (cases with clearly identifiable target vessels in angiography). The baseline characteristics and clinical outcomes were collected and analysed., Results: The results showed no statistically significant differences in the duration of the procedure and intraoperative blood transfusion between the control and CBCT groups (P > .05). The study clarified that the CBCT group had a significantly higher rate of improvement of gross haematuria compared to the control group (P < .05). The CBCT group showed a greater increase in haemoglobin and a lesser increase in creatinine. The clinical success rates were 87.5% in the control group and 90.9% in the CBCT group (P > .05)., Conclusions: The marking and fusion image-guided technique is useful in cases of kidney ruptured haemorrhage without extravascular leakage of contrast agent. The technique is safe, feasible, and effective, and we believe it is superior to purely DSA-guidance., Advances in Knowledge: The use of the marking and fusion image-guided technique is recommended to overcome the challenge of undetectable target vessels during interventional procedures. A quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulator is a topological phase in which the interior is insulating but electrical current flows along the edges of the sample in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, as dictated by the spontaneous magnetization orientation. Such a chiral edge current eliminates any backscattering, giving rise to quantized Hall resistance and zero longitudinal resistance. Here we fabricate mesoscopic QAH sandwich Hall bar devices and succeed in switching the edge current chirality through thermally assisted spin-orbit torque (SOT). The well-quantized QAH states before and after SOT switching with opposite edge current chiralities are demonstrated through four- and three-terminal measurements. We show that the SOT responsible for magnetization switching can be generated by both surface and bulk carriers. Our results further our understanding of the interplay between magnetism and topological states and usher in an easy and instantaneous method to manipulate the QAH state., (© 2023. An axion insulator is a three-dimensional (3D) topological insulator (TI), in which the bulk maintains the time-reversal symmetry or inversion symmetry but the surface states are gapped by surface magnetization. The axion insulator state has been observed in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)-grown magnetically doped TI sandwiches and exfoliated intrinsic magnetic TI MnBi 2 Te 4 flakes with an even number layer. All these samples have a thickness of ~ 10 nm, near the 2D-to-3D boundary. The coupling between the top and bottom surface states in thin samples may hinder the observation of quantized topological magnetoelectric response. Here, we employ MBE to synthesize magnetic TI sandwich heterostructures and find that the axion insulator state persists in a 3D sample with a thickness of ~ 106 nm. Our transport results show that the axion insulator state starts to emerge when the thickness of the middle undoped TI layer is greater than ~ 3 nm. The 3D hundred-nanometer-thick axion insulator provides a promising platform for the exploration of the topological magnetoelectric effect and other emergent magnetic topological states, such as the high-order TI phase., (© 2023. Over the last decade, the possibility of realizing topological superconductivity (TSC) has generated much excitement. TSC can be created in electronic systems where the topological and superconducting orders coexist, motivating the continued exploration of candidate material platforms to this end. Here, we use molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to synthesize heterostructures that host emergent interfacial superconductivity when a non-superconducting antiferromagnet (FeTe) is interfaced with a topological insulator (TI) (Bi, Sb) 2 Te 3 . By performing in-vacuo angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and ex-situ electrical transport measurements, we find that the superconducting transition temperature and the upper critical magnetic field are suppressed when the chemical potential approaches the Dirac point. We provide evidence to show that the observed interfacial superconductivity and its chemical potential dependence is the result of the competition between the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida-type ferromagnetic coupling mediated by Dirac surface states and antiferromagnetic exchange couplings that generate the bicollinear antiferromagnetic order in the FeTe layer., (© 2023. Objective: To assess whether prophylactic intraoperative abdominal aortic balloon occlusion (IAABO) is indeed beneficial in pregnancies with placenta previa (PP) and placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) during cesarean section., Methods: A retrospective case-control study included 251 pregnancies with PP and/or PAS. All enrolled patients were divided into a PP/PAS group, a PP + PAS group, and an IAABO group. The demographic characteristics and maternal and neonatal outcomes were compared., Results: There was no significant difference in blood loss and transfusion between the IAABO group and the PP + PAS group (P > 0.05). However, blood loss and red blood cell and fresh frozen plasma transfusion in the above two groups were significantly higher than in the PP/PAS group (P < 0.05). More pregnancies in the IAABO group had to undergo uterine artery embolization (29.2%) or hysterectomy (20.8%), and this percentage was significantly higher than that in the other two groups (P < 0.001). All neonatal characteristics did not show differences between the IAABO group and PP + PAS group (P > 0.05). IAABO led to femoral artery thrombosis in three cases and minor postoperative renal injury in one case., Conclusion: IAABO only acted as a less important supporting technique during cesarean section. Importance: Although Micropterus salmoides rhabdovirus (MSRV) causes serious fish epidemics worldwide, the detailed mechanism of MSRV entry into host cells remains unknown. Here, we comprehensively investigated the mechanism of MSRV entry into epithelioma papulosum cyprinid (EPC) cells. This study demonstrated that MSRV enters EPC cells via a low pH, dynamin-dependent, microtubule-dependent, and clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Subsequently, MSRV transports from early endosomes to late endosomes and further into lysosomes in a microtubule-dependent manner. The characterization of MSRV entry will further advance the understanding of rhabdovirus cellular entry pathways and provide novel targets for antiviral drug against MSRV infection., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Microbial transformation is an efficient enzymatic approach for the structural modification of exogenous compounds to obtain derivatives. Compared with traditional chemical synthesis, the microbial transformation has in fact the undoubtable advantages of strong region-and stereo-selectivity, and a low environmental and economic impact on the production process, which can achieve the reactions challenging to chemical synthesis. Because microbes are equipped with a broad-spectrum of enzymes and therefore can metabolize various substrates, they are not only a significant route for obtaining novel active derivatives, but also an effective tool for mimicking mammal metabolism in vitro. Artemisinin, a sesquiterpene with a peroxy-bridged structure serving as the main active functional group, is a famous antimalarial agent discovered from Artemisia annua L. Some sesquiterpenoids, such as dihydroartemisinin, artemether, and arteether, have been developed on the basis of artemisinin, which have been successfully marketed and become the first-line antimalarial drugs recommended by WHO. As revealed by pharmacological studies, artemisinin and its derivatives have exhibited extensive biological activities, including antimalarial, antitumor, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory. As an efficient approach for structural modification, microbial transformation of artemisinin and its derivatives is an increasingly popular strategy that attracts considerable attention recently, and numerous novel derivatives have been discovered. Herein, this paper reviewed the microbial transformation of artemisinin and its artemisinin, including microbial strains, culture conditions, product isolation and yield, and biological activities, and summarized the advances in microbial transformation in obtaining active derivatives of artemisinin and the simulation of in vivo metabolism of drugs.

Background: Ultrasound (US)-guided-only insertion at the bedside is safe and improves the success rates of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). However, PICC insertion procedures remain challenging for special cases., Purpose: To show that fluoroscopically guided tip repositioning, for failed US-guided PICC placement, safely led to satisfactory positioning in difficult cases and, importantly, improved success rates of PICC placements., Material and Methods: A retrospective study of 1560 patients who underwent US-guided PICC placement were performed. Patients who failed US-guided PICC placement were transferred to the interventional radiology department for fluoroscopically guided tip repositioning. Baseline characteristics as well as insertion-related factors were collected. All data were analyzed using SPSS software., Results: In total, 37 (2.4%) patients who failed US-guided PICC placement accepted fluoroscopically guided adjustment or re-insertion. Of these 37 patients, 32 were enrolled. We observed no significant differences between right and left arm PICC access ( P  > 0.05), even though a higher percentage of PICCs were inserted into left arms (56.3%). The basilic vein (65.6%) was the most common insertion site. Only four patients experienced slight angiospasm (3.1%) and venous thrombosis (9.4%). US-guided PICC insertion failures were primarily due to line tip malposition (84.4%). All patients successfully underwent fluoroscopically guided tip repositioning, which resulted in optimal catheter tip positioning. PICC lines were adjusted in most patients (n=28, 87.5%)., Conclusion: Malposition was the primary issue causing US-guided PICC insertion failure. Fluoroscopically guided tip repositioning safely and efficaciously led to satisfactory positioning in difficult cases; thus, we recommend this method for patients failing US-guided PICC placement.

The introduction of superconductivity to the Dirac surface states of a topological insulator leads to a topological superconductor, which may support topological quantum computing through Majorana zero modes 1,2 . The development of a scalable material platform is key to the realization of topological quantum computing 3,4 . Here we report on the growth and properties of high-quality (Bi,Sb) 2 Te 3 /graphene/gallium heterostructures. Our synthetic approach enables atomically sharp layers at both hetero-interfaces, which in turn promotes proximity-induced superconductivity that originates in the gallium film. A lithography-free, van der Waals tunnel junction is developed to perform transport tunnelling spectroscopy. We find a robust, proximity-induced superconducting gap formed in the Dirac surface states in 5-10 quintuple-layer (Bi,Sb) 2 Te 3 /graphene/gallium heterostructures. The presence of a single Abrikosov vortex, where the Majorana zero modes are expected to reside, manifests in discrete conductance changes. Macrophages are highly heterogeneous and exhibit a diversity of functions and phenotypes. They can be divided into pro-inflammatory macrophages (M1) and anti-inflammatory macrophages (M2). Diabetic wounds are characterized by a prolonged inflammatory phase and difficulty in healing due to the accumulation of pro-inflammatory (M1) macrophages in the wound. Therefore, hydrogel dressings with macrophage heterogeneity regulation function hold great promise in promoting diabetic wound healing in clinical applications. However, the precise conversion of pro-inflammatory M1 to anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages by simple and biosafe approaches is still a great challenge. Here, an all-natural hydrogel with the ability to regulate macrophage heterogeneity is developed to promote angiogenesis and diabetic wound healing. The protocatechuic aldehyde hybridized collagen-based all-natural hydrogel exhibits good bioadhesive and antibacterial properties as well as reactive oxygen species scavenging ability. More importantly, the hydrogel is able to convert M1 macrophages into M2 macrophages without the need for any additional ingredients or external intervention. This simple and safe immunomodulatory approach shows great application potential for shortening the inflammatory phase of diabetic wound repair and accelerating wound healing., (© 2023 The Authors. To date, the quantum anomalous Hall effect has been realized in chromium (Cr)- and/or vanadium(V)-doped topological insulator (Bi,Sb) 2 Te 3 thin films. In this work, we use molecular beam epitaxy to synthesize both V- and Cr-doped Bi 2 Te 3 thin films with controlled dopant concentration. By performing magneto-transport measurements, we find that both systems show an unusual yet similar ferromagnetic response with respect to magnetic dopant concentration; specifically the Curie temperature does not increase monotonically but shows a local maximum at a critical dopant concentration. We attribute this unusual ferromagnetic response observed in Cr/V-doped Bi 2 Te 3 thin films to the dopant-concentration-induced magnetic exchange interaction, which displays evolution from van Vleck-type ferromagnetism in a nontrivial magnetic topological insulator to Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY)-type ferromagnetism in a trivial diluted magnetic semiconductor. Our work provides insights into the ferromagnetic properties of magnetically doped topological insulator thin films and facilitates the pursuit of high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall effect.

In quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators, the interior is insulating but electrons can travel with zero resistance along one-dimensional (1D) conducting paths known as chiral edge channels (CECs). These CECs have been predicted to be confined to the 1D edges and exponentially decay in the two-dimensional (2D) bulk. In this Letter, we present the results of a systematic study of QAH devices fashioned in a Hall bar geometry of different widths under gate voltages. At the charge neutral point, the QAH effect persists in a Hall bar device with a width of only ∼72  nm, implying the intrinsic decaying length of CECs is less than ∼36  nm. In the electron-doped regime, we find that the Hall resistance deviates quickly from the quantized value when the sample width is less than 1  μm. Our theoretical calculations suggest that the wave function of CEC first decays exponentially and then shows a long tail due to disorder-induced bulk states. Therefore, the deviation from the quantized Hall resistance in narrow QAH samples originates from the interaction between two opposite CECs mediated by disorder-induced bulk states in QAH insulators, consistent with our experimental observations.

One-dimensional chiral interface channels can be created at the boundary of two quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators with different Chern numbers. Such a QAH junction may function as a chiral edge current distributer at zero magnetic field, but its realization remains challenging. Here, by employing an in-situ mechanical mask, we use molecular beam epitaxy to synthesize QAH insulator junctions, in which two QAH insulators with different Chern numbers are connected along a one-dimensional junction. For the junction between Chern numbers of 1 and -1, we observe quantized transport and demonstrate the appearance of the two parallel propagating chiral interface channels along the magnetic domain wall at zero magnetic field. For the junction between Chern numbers of 1 and 2, our quantized transport shows that a single chiral interface channel appears at the interface. The quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulator carries dissipation-free chiral edge current and thus provides a unique opportunity to develop energy-efficient transformative information technology. Despite promising advances, the QAH insulator has thus far eluded any practical applications. In addition to its low working temperature, the QAH state in magnetically doped topological insulators usually deteriorates with time in ambient conditions. In this work, we store three QAH devices with similar initial properties in different environments. The QAH device without a protection layer in air shows clear degradation and becomes hole-doped. The QAH device kept in an argon glovebox without a protection layer shows no measurable degradation after 560 h, and the device protected by a 3 nm AlO x protection layer in air shows minimal degradation with stable QAH properties. Our work shows a route to preserve the dissipation-free chiral edge state in QAH devices for potential applications in quantum information technology.

Aim: To explore the current situation and problems of interventional radiology (IR) staff, imaging equipment and procedures in hospitals., Methods: An electronic questionnaire was sent to 186 officially registered secondary and tertiary hospitals through a dedicated network for medical administration in a city in China. Data collection efforts ceased two weeks after the questionnaire was sent out., Results: The response rate was 100%. IR procedures were provided in 22 hospitals (11.8%). 50.0% were 2A level hospitals. 95.5% began to perform IR procedures in the last three decades. The IR workload of 3A level hospitals was significantly heavier than that in 3B or 2 level hospitals (1139.20±699.32 vs. 95.60±45.48, 1139.20±699.32 vs. 85.17±61.15; P<0.001). There were more senior interventional radiologists than juniors (43 vs. 41), and insufficient radiographers (radiographer-equipment ratio 0.91 ± 0.54). Thirteen hospitals (59.1%) had set up independent IR departments, and several clinical departments provided IR service at the same time in ten hospitals., Conclusions: The IR specialty of 3A hospitals had obvious advantages in staff, imaging equipment, and procedure volume over other hospitals. It should be noted that there were fewer junior interventional radiologists and the number of radiographers was inadequate. A topological insulator (TI) interfaced with an s-wave superconductor has been predicted to host topological superconductivity. Although the growth of epitaxial TI films on s-wave superconductors has been achieved by molecular-beam epitaxy, it remains an outstanding challenge for synthesizing atomically thin TI/superconductor heterostructures, which are critical for engineering the topological superconducting phase. Here we used molecular-beam epitaxy to grow Bi 2 Se 3 films with a controlled thickness on monolayer NbSe 2 and performed in situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and ex situ magnetotransport measurements on these heterostructures. We found that the emergence of Rashba-type bulk quantum-well bands and spin-non-degenerate surface states coincides with a marked suppression of the in-plane upper critical magnetic field of the superconductivity in Bi 2 Se 3 /monolayer NbSe 2 heterostructures. This is a signature of a crossover from Ising- to Rashba-type superconducting pairings, induced by altering the Bi 2 Se 3 film thickness. The plateau-to-plateau transition in quantum Hall effect under high magnetic fields is a celebrated quantum phase transition between two topological states. It can be achieved by either sweeping the magnetic field or tuning the carrier density. The recent realization of the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators with tunable Chern numbers introduces the channel degree of freedom to the dissipation-free chiral edge transport and makes the study of the quantum phase transition between two topological states under zero magnetic field possible. Here, we synthesized the magnetic topological insulator (TI)/TI pentalayer heterostructures with different Cr doping concentrations in the middle magnetic TI layers using molecular beam epitaxy. By performing transport measurements, we found a potential plateau phase transition between C=1 and C=2 QAH states under zero magnetic field. In tuning the transition, the Hall resistance monotonically decreases from h/e^{2} to h/2e^{2}, concurrently, the longitudinal resistance exhibits a maximum at the critical point. Our results show that the ratio between the Hall resistance and the longitudinal resistance is greater than 1 at the critical point, which indicates that the original chiral edge channel from the C=1 QAH state coexists with the dissipative bulk conduction channels. Subsequently, these bulk conduction channels appear to self-organize and form the second chiral edge channel in completing the plateau phase transition. Our study will motivate further investigations of this novel Chern number change-induced quantum phase transition and advance the development of the QAH chiral edge current-based electronic and spintronic devices.

Objective: To investigate the overview of thrombosis in myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPN) patients, and to explore the risk factors of thrombosis at diagnosis and during follow-up., Methods: The clinical data of 388 MPN patients treated in our hospital were collected. The patients were followed up by outpatient and phone. The risk factors of thrombosis were analyzed by statistical methods., Results: Among 388 MPN patients, 161 patients (41.49%) showed thromboses at diagnosis or during follow-up. Among them, 92.55% were arterial thromboses, 146 cases (96.27%) were complicated with thromboses at diagnosis, and 36 cases (11.46%) showed newly thromboses or progression of previous thromboses among the 314 received full follow-up patients. Age (P＜0.001, HR:1.033, 95%CI:1.016-1.051), JAK2V617F mutation (P=0.037, HR:1.72, 95%CI: 1.033-2.862), hypertension (P＜0.001, HR:2.639, 95%CI:1.659-4.197) and hyperlipidemia (P＜0.001, HR:2.659, 95%CI:1.626-4.347) were the independent risk factors affecting thrombosis at diagnosis of the patients. During the follow-up, age (P=0.016, HR:1.032, 95%CI: 1.006-1.059) and previous thrombosis history (P=0.019, HR:2.194, 95%CI: 1.135-4.242) were the independent risk factors affecting the progression of thrombosis at different sites or on the basis of the previous thrombosis in the patients., Conclusion: Patients with advanced age, JAK2V617F mutation or complicated with hypertension and hyperlipidemia shows a higher risk of thrombosis at diagnosis, while the patients with advanced age or previous thrombosis history shows a higher risk of progression of thrombosis during the follow-up.

Recently, MnBi 2 Te 4 has been demonstrated to be an intrinsic magnetic topological insulator and the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect was observed in exfoliated MnBi 2 Te 4 flakes. Here, we used molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to grow MnBi 2 Te 4 films with thickness down to 1 septuple layer (SL) and performed thickness-dependent transport measurements. We observed a nonsquare hysteresis loop in the antiferromagnetic state for films with thickness greater than 2 SL. The hysteresis loop can be separated into two AH components. We demonstrated that one AH component with the larger coercive field is from the dominant MnBi 2 Te 4 phase, whereas the other AH component with the smaller coercive field is from the minor Mn-doped Bi 2 Te 3 phase. The extracted AH component of the MnBi 2 Te 4 phase shows a clear even-odd layer-dependent behavior. Our studies reveal insights on how to optimize the MBE growth conditions to improve the quality of MnBi 2 Te 4 films.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated gastric carcinomas (EBVaGCs) present unique molecular signatures, but the tumorigenesis of EBVaGCs and the role EBV plays during this process remain poorly understood., Methods: We applied whole-exome sequencing, EBV genome sequencing, and whole-genome bisulfite sequencing to multiple samples (n = 123) derived from the same patients (n = 25), which covered saliva samples and different histological stages from morphologically normal epithelial tissues to dysplasia and EBVaGCs. We compared the genomic landscape between EBVaGCs and their precursor lesions and traced the clonal evolution for each patient. We also analyzed genome sequences of EBV from samples of different histological types. Finally, the key molecular events promoting the tumor evolution were demonstrated by MTT, IC50, and colony formation assay in vitro experiments and in vivo xenograft experiments., Results: Our analysis revealed increasing mutational burden and EBV load from normal tissues and low-grade dysplasia (LD) to high-grade dysplasia (HD) and EBVaGCs, and oncogenic amplifications occurred late in EBVaGCs. Interestingly, within each patient, EBVaGCs and HDs were monoclonal and harbored single-strain-originated EBV, but saliva or normal tissues/LDs had different EBV strains from that in EBVaGCs. Compared with precursor lesions, tumor cells showed incremental methylation in promotor regions, whereas EBV presented consistent hypermethylation. Dominant alterations targeting the PI3K-Akt and Wnt pathways were found in EBV-infected cells. The combinational inhibition of these two pathways in EBV-positive tumor cells confirmed their synergistic function., Conclusions: We portrayed the (epi) genomic evolution process of EBVaGCs, revealed the extensive genomic diversity of EBV between tumors and normal tissue sites, and demonstrated the synergistic activation of the PI3K and Wnt pathways in EBVaGCs, offering a new potential treatment strategy for this disease., (© 2021. Our previous studies have shown that cathepsin L (CTSL) is involved in the ability of tumors to resist ionizing radiation (IR), but the specific mechanisms responsible for this remain unknown. We report here that mutant p53 (mut-p53) is involved in IR-induced transcription of CTSL. We found that irradiation caused activation of CTSL in mut-p53 cell lines, whereas there was almost no activation in p53 wild-type cell lines. Additionally, luciferase reporter gene assay results demonstrated that IR induced the p53 binding region on the CTSL promoter. We further demonstrated that the expression of p300 and early growth response factor-1 (Egr-1) was upregulated in mut-p53 cell lines after IR treatment. Accordingly, the expression of Ac-H3, Ac-H4, AcH3K9 was upregulated after IR treatment in mut-p53 cell lines, whereas histone deacetylase (HDAC) 4 and HDAC6 were reciprocally decreased. Moreover, knockdown of either Egr-1 or p300 abolished the binding of mut-p53 to the promoter of CTSL. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay results showed that the IR-activated transcription of CTSL was dependent on p300. To further delineate the clinical relevance of interactions between Egr-1/p300, mut-p53, and CTSL, we accessed primary tumor samples to evaluate the relationships between mut-p53, CTSL, and Egr-1/p300 ex vivo. The results support the notion that mut-p53 is correlated with CTSL transcription involving the Egr-1/p300 pathway. Taken together, the results of our study revealed that p300 is an important target in the process of IR-induced transcription of CTSL, which confirms that CTSL participates in mut-p53 gain-of-function. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Transcriptional activation of cathepsin L by ionizing radiation required the involvement of mutated p53 and Egr-1/p300. Interference with Egr-1 or p300 could inhibit the expression of cathepsin L induced by ionizing radiation. The aim was to investigate the independent prognostic factors and construct a prognostic risk prediction model to facilitate the formulation of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) clinical treatment plan. We constructed a prognostic model using univariate COX, Lasso, and multivariate COX regression analysis and conducted statistical analysis. In this study, 195 randomly obtained sample sets were defined as training set, while 390 samples constituted validation set for testing. A prognostic model was constructed using regression analysis based on nine survival-associated metabolic genes, among which PIP5K1B, NAGK, and HADHB significantly down-regulated, while MINPP1, PYGL, AGPAT4, ENTPD1, CA12, and CA9 significantly up-regulated. Statistical analysis used to evaluate the prognostic model showed a significant different between the high and low risk groups and a poor prognosis in the high risk group ( P < 0.05) based on the training set. To further clarify, validation sets showed a significant difference between the high-risk group with a worse prognosis and the low-risk group ( P < 0.05). Independent prognostic analysis based on the training set and validation set indicated that the risk score was superior as an independent prognostic factor compared to other clinical characteristics. We conducted Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) among high-risk and low-risk patients to identify metabolism-related biological pathways. Finally, nomogram incorporating some clinical characteristics and risk score was constructed to predict 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates (C-index = 0.7). To increase the reliability and success rate of drug discovery, efforts have been made to increase the C(sp 3 ) fraction and avoid flat molecules. sp 3 -Rich enantiopure amines are most frequently encountered as chiral auxiliaries, synthetic intermediates for pharmaceutical agents and bioactive natural products. Streamlined construction of chiral aliphatic amines has long been regarded as a paramount challenge. Mainstream approaches, including hydrogenation of enamines and imines, C-H amination, and alkylation of imines, were applied for the synthesis of chiral amines with circumscribed skeleton structures; typically, the chiral carbon centre was adjacent to an auxiliary aryl or ester group. Herein, we report a mild and general nickel-catalysed asymmetric reductive hydroalkylation to effectively convert enamides and enecarbamates into drug-like α-branched chiral amines and derivatives. This reaction involves the regio- and stereoselective hydrometallation of an enamide or enecarbamate to generate a catalytic amount of enantioenriched alkylnickel intermediate, followed by C-C bond formation via alkyl electrophiles.

We report compelling evidence of an emergent topological Hall effect (THE) from chiral bubbles in a two-dimensional uniaxial ferromagnet, V-doped Sb 2 Te 3 heterostructure. The sign of THE signal is determined by the net curvature of domain walls in different domain configurations, and the strength of THE signal is correlated with the density of nucleation or pinned bubble domains. The experimental results are in good agreement with the integrated linear transport and Monte Carlo simulations, corroborating the emergent gauge field at chiral magnetic bubbles. Our findings not only reveal a general mechanism of THE in two-dimensional ferromagnets but also pave the way for the creation and manipulation of topological spin textures for spintronic applications.

The Berry phase picture provides important insights into the electronic properties of condensed matter systems. The intrinsic anomalous Hall (AH) effect can be understood as the consequence of non-zero Berry curvature in momentum space. Here, we fabricate TI/magnetic TI heterostructures and find that the sign of the AH effect in the magnetic TI layer can be changed from being positive to negative with increasing the thickness of the top TI layer. Our first-principles calculations show that the built-in electric fields at the TI/magnetic TI interface influence the band structure of the magnetic TI layer, and thus lead to a reconstruction of the Berry curvature in the heterostructure samples. Based on the interface-induced AH effect with a negative sign in TI/V-doped TI bilayer structures, we create an artificial "topological Hall effect"-like feature in the Hall trace of the V-doped TI/TI/Cr-doped TI sandwich heterostructures. Our study provides a new route to create the Berry curvature change in magnetic topological materials that may lead to potential technological applications.

This study was to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Thymus przewalskii. The chemical consti-tuents were separated and purified by column chromatography on silica gel, ODS, Sephadex LH-20 and semi-prepared HPLC, and their structures were determined by physicochemical properties and spectroscopic data. Four flavanones were isolated from the ethanol extract of the aerial parts of T. przewalskii, and identified as(2S)-5,6-dihydroxy-7,8,4'-trimethoxyflavanone(1), 5,4'-dihydroxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavanone(2),(2S)-5,4'-dihydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavanone(3), sakuranetin(4), respectively. Compound 1 was a new compound and its configuration was determined by CD spectrum, compound 3 was natural product which was isolated for the first time and their configurations were determined by CD spectra. Compound 2 was isolated from the genus Thymus for the first time and compound 4 was isolated from T. przewalskii for the first time. Furthermore, cytotoxicity test was assayed for the four flavanones. They exhibited weak cytotoxicity against human lung cancer cells(A549), with the IC&#95;(50) from 74.5 to 135.6 μmol·L~(-1).

Background: The effects of drug treatment on veterans, who have a high risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), are not clear, and the guidelines are different from the recommendations of the recent meta-analysis. Our goal was to find the efficacy and frequencies of complications of drugs that can treat PTSD in veterans. Method: We searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, The Cochrane Library and Web of Science until January 1, 2020. The outcomes were designed as the change of PTSD total scale, subsymptom score, response rate, frequencies of complications outcomes, and acceptability. Results: We included a total of 36 randomised controlled trials with a total of 2,331 adults. In terms of overall effect, drug treatment is more effective than placebo in change in total PTSD symptoms scale (SMD = -0.24, 95% CI [-0.42, -0.06]) and response (RR = 1.66, 95% CI [1.01, 2.72]). However, in terms of frequencies of complications, drugs generally had a higher withdrawal rate (RR = 1.02, 95% CI [0.86, 1.20]) and a higher frequencies of complications (RR = 1.72, 95% CI [1.20, 2.47]) than placebo. Risperidone showed a good curative effect in change in total PTSD symptoms scale (SMD = -0.22, 95% CI [-0.43, 0.00]) and acceptability (RR = 1.31, 95% CI [0.82, 2.59]). The drugs acting on 5-HT receptors, our results showed that symptoms of hyper-arousal (SMD = -0.54, 95% CI [-0.86, -0.21]), symptoms of re-experiencing (SMD = -0.62, 95% CI [-0.86, -0.39]) and symptoms of avoidance (SMD = -0.53, 95% CI [- 0.77,-0.3]), The drugs acting on dopamine receptors, our results showed that symptoms of re-experiencing (SMD = -0.35, 95% CI [-0.55, -0.16]) and the drugs acting on α2 receptor has a significant effect on reducing total PTSD symptoms scale (SMD = -0.34, 95% CI [-0.62, -0.06]). Conclusion: Drug therapy can effectively treat PTSD, but its frequencies of complications should be considered. Different from the guidelines for adult PTSD, this study supports atypical antipsychotics, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and receptors that act on 5-HT and dopamine for the treatment of PTSD in veterans. A quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) state is a two-dimensional topological insulating state that has a quantized Hall resistance of h/(Ce 2 ) and vanishing longitudinal resistance under zero magnetic field (where h is the Planck constant, e is the elementary charge, and the Chern number C is an integer) 1,2 . The QAH effect has been realized in magnetic topological insulators 3-9 and magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene 10,11 . However, the QAH effect at zero magnetic field has so far been realized only for C = 1. Here we realize a well quantized QAH effect with tunable Chern number (up to C = 5) in multilayer structures consisting of alternating magnetic and undoped topological insulator layers, fabricated using molecular beam epitaxy. The Chern number of these QAH insulators is determined by the number of undoped topological insulator layers in the multilayer structure. Moreover, we demonstrate that the Chern number of a given multilayer structure can be tuned by varying either the magnetic doping concentration in the magnetic topological insulator layers or the thickness of the interior magnetic topological insulator layer. We develop a theoretical model to explain our experimental observations and establish phase diagrams for QAH insulators with high, tunable Chern number. The realization of such insulators facilitates the application of dissipationless chiral edge currents in energy-efficient electronic devices, and opens up opportunities for developing multi-channel quantum computing and higher-capacity chiral circuit interconnects.

Objective: To investigate the difference of clinical characteristics between young patients(age≤40 years old) and middle-older patients(age>40 years old) with the myeloproliferative neoplasms（MPN）., Methods: The clinical data (gene mutations， peripheral blood routine examinations， imaging examination and past history) of 269 MPN patients was collected and analyzed., Results: In essential thrombocythemia (ET) group, the proportion of triple-negative type in young patients was higher than that in middle-older group, while the peripheral white blood cell（WBC） and platelets（PLT） counts in the first visit were lower. In polycythemia vera (PV) group, the total detection rate of JAK2V617F (80.65%) was lower than that of other research reports. Young patients with PV showed the lower JAK2V617F rate and lower WBC count, compared with the middle-older aged patients. Both CALR and MPL mutations were not found in PV patients. There was only 1 primary myelofibrosis (PMF) patient aged <40 years old. 91.67% of the patients merged splenomegaly and this rate was higher than that of ET or PV patients. It was found that there were a diagnosed familial MPN family and an undiagnosed family， and the youngest patient was only 8 years old. The second-generation gene sequencing detection for them was not carried out., Conclusion: Age is an important reference index in the assessment of risks. The MPN patients with different age and types show much difference in gene mutations, peripheral blood cell counts, thrombotic events and sizes of spleen. The onset ages of patients with familial MPN trends to be generational younger.

Doping a topological insulator (TI) film with transition metal ions can break its time-reversal symmetry and lead to the realization of the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect. Prior studies have shown that the longitudinal resistance of the QAH samples usually does not vanish when the Hall resistance shows a good quantization. This has been interpreted as a result of the presence of possible dissipative conducting channels in magnetic TI samples. By studying the temperature- and magnetic-field-dependence of the magnetoresistance of a magnetic TI sandwich heterostructure device, we demonstrate that the predominant dissipation mechanism in thick QAH insulators can switch between nonchiral edge states and residual bulk states in different magnetic-field regimes. The interactions between bulk states, chiral edge states, and nonchiral edge states are also investigated. Our Letter provides a way to distinguish between the dissipation arising from the residual bulk states and nonchiral edge states, which is crucial for achieving true dissipationless transport in QAH insulators and for providing deeper insights into QAH-related phenomena.

The quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect is a consequence of non-zero Berry curvature in momentum space. The QAH insulator harbours dissipation-free chiral edge states in the absence of an external magnetic field. However, the topological Hall (TH) effect, a hallmark of chiral spin textures, is a consequence of real-space Berry curvature. Here, by inserting a topological insulator (TI) layer between two magnetic TI layers, we realized the concurrence of the TH effect and the QAH effect through electric-field gating. The TH effect is probed by bulk carriers, whereas the QAH effect is characterized by chiral edge states. The appearance of the TH effect in the QAH insulating regime is a consequence of chiral magnetic domain walls that result from the gate-induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and occurs during the magnetization reversal process in the magnetic TI sandwich samples. The coexistence of chiral edge states and chiral spin textures provides a platform for proof-of-concept dissipationless spin-textured spintronic applications.

Olanzapine is an antipsychotic drug used to treat patients with schizophrenia due to its lower incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms. Previous studies have shown that olanzapine activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and induce autophagy in SH-SY5Y cell line. In this study, we investigated whether olanzapine protected against rotenone-induced neurotoxicity in PC12 cells. We showed that treatment with olanzapine increased the phosphorylation of AMPK in both dose- and time-dependent manners in PC12 cells. In addition, olanzapine activated autophagy and increased autophagic vacuoles. Furthermore, olanzapine pretreatment could protect PC12 cells from rotenone-induced apoptosis. Besides, olanzapine pretreatment could suppress the rotenone-induced depolarization of mitochondrial potential and thus protect the cells. Moreover, pretreatment with specific AMPK inhibitor compound C or with autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine impaired the protective effect of olanzapine on rotenone-treated PC12 cells. In summary, our results show for the first time that olanzapine ameliorates rotenone-induced injury by activating autophagy through AMPK pathway.

Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element for living organisms and plays diverse biological roles. Endometritis is a common reproductive disorder in dairy cows, causing huge economic losses. In this study, we explored the effects of Se on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced endometritis in mice and expounded its underlying mechanism of action. We validated the anti-inflammatory effects of Se in vivo by establishing a mouse model of endometriosis induced by LPS. Se significantly reversed the LPS-induced uterine histopathological changes, MPO activity and inflammatory cytokine levels in vivo. Simultaneously, TLR4 and its downstream signaling pathways, lipid rafts and cholesterol levels in the tissues were also attenuated by Se under LPS stimulation. In addition, the molecular mechanism of the Se anti-inflammatory effect was clarified in mouse endometrial epithelial cells. Se inhibited TLR4-mediated NF-κB and IRF3 signal transduction pathways to reduce the production of inflammatory factors. We found that Se promoted the consumption of cholesterol to suppress the lipid rafts coming into being and inhibited the TLR4 positioning to the lipid raft to prevent the inflammatory response caused by LPS. Meanwhile, Se activated the LxRα-ABCA1 pathway to cause the outflow of cholesterol in cells. The anti-inflammatory effect of Se was disrupted by silencing LxRα. In conclusion, Se exerted anti-inflammatory effects most likely by the LxRα-ABCA1 pathway activation, which inhibited lipid rafts by depleting cholesterol and ultimately impeded the migration of TLR4 to lipid rafts.

A quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulator coupled to an s-wave superconductor is predicted to harbor chiral Majorana modes. A recent experiment interprets the half-quantized two-terminal conductance plateau as evidence for these modes in a millimeter-size QAH-niobium hybrid device. However, non-Majorana mechanisms can also generate similar signatures, especially in disordered samples. Here, we studied similar hybrid devices with a well-controlled and transparent interface between the superconductor and the QAH insulator. When the devices are in the QAH state with well-aligned magnetization, the two-terminal conductance is always half-quantized. Our experiment provides a comprehensive understanding of the superconducting proximity effect observed in QAH-superconductor hybrid devices and shows that the half-quantized conductance plateau is unlikely to be induced by chiral Majorana fermions in samples with a highly transparent interface., (Copyright © 2019 The Authors, some rights reserved; exclusive licensee American Association for the Advancement of Science. Cathepsin L (CTSL), a cysteine protease, is responsible for the degradation of a variety of proteins. It is known to participate in neuronal apoptosis associated with abnormal cell cycle. However, the mechanisms underlying CTSL-induced cell apoptosis remain largely unclear. We reported here that rotenone caused an activation of CTSL expression in PC-12 cells, while knockdown of CTSL by small interfering RNAs or its inhibitor reduced the rotenone-induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Moreover, elevation of CTSL and increased-apoptosis were accompanied by induction of B-Myb, a crucial cell cycle regulator. We found that B-Myb was increased in rotenone-treated PC-12 cells and knockdown of B-Myb ameliorated rotenone-stimulated cell apoptosis. Further analysis demonstrated that CTSL influenced the expression of B-Myb as suppression of CTSL activity led to a decreased B-Myb expression, whereas overexpression of CTSL resulted in B-Myb induction. Reduction of B-Myb in CTSL-overexpressing cells revealed that regulation of cell cycle-related proteins, including cyclin A and cyclin B1, through CTSL was mediated by the transcription factor B-Myb. In addition, we demonstrated that the B-Myb target, Bim, and its regulator, Egr-1, which was also associated with CTSL closely, were both involved in rotenone-induced apoptosis in PC-12 cells. Our data not only revealed the role of CTSL in rotenone-induced neuronal apoptosis, but also indicated the involvement of B-Myb in CTSL-related cell cycle regulation.

Aims: Our laboratory previously reported that olanzapine treatment inhibited growth of glioma cell lines and hypothesized that autophagy may be involved in the proliferation inhibitory effects of olanzapine. However, the mechanisms of olanzapine-contributed autophagy activation are unclear., Methods: The inhibitory effects of olanzapine on glioma cells were evaluated by CCK8 assay, Hoechst 33258 staining and annexin V-FITC/PI staining. Western blotting, nuclear separation techniques, and immunofluorescence assays were used to investigate the relationship between the inhibition of NF-κB and autophagy activation by olanzapine., Results: In this work, we verified that olanzapine increased autophagic flux and autophagic vesicles. In addition, we confirmed that autophagy was related to NF-κB inhibition in cancer progression, especially with the nuclear translocation of p65. Furthermore, we demonstrated that autophagy induced by olanzapine could be impaired with TNFα cotreatment. We also found that olanzapine had an inhibitory effect on T98 cells with positive MGMT protein expression, which may involve the inhibition of MGMT through effects on NF-κB., Conclusions: Our findings identify a pathway by which olanzapine induces autophagy by depressing NF-κB in a glioma cell line, providing evidence which supports the use of olanzapine as a potential anticancer drug., (© 2019 The Authors. Inducing magnetic orders in a topological insulator (TI) to break its time reversal symmetry has been predicted to reveal many exotic topological quantum phenomena. The manipulation of magnetic orders in a TI layer can play a key role in harnessing these quantum phenomena toward technological applications. Here we fabricated a thin magnetic TI film on an antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulator Cr 2 O 3 layer and found that the magnetic moments of the magnetic TI layer and the surface spins of the Cr 2 O 3 layers favor interfacial AFM coupling. Field cooling studies show a crossover from negative to positive exchange bias clarifying the competition between the interfacial AFM coupling energy and the Zeeman energy in the AFM insulator layer. The interfacial exchange coupling also enhances the Curie temperature of the magnetic TI layer. The unique interfacial AFM alignment in magnetic TI on AFM insulator heterostructures opens a new route toward manipulating the interplay between topological states and magnetic orders in spin-engineered heterostructures, facilitating the exploration of proof-of-concept TI-based spintronic and electronic devices with multifunctionality and low power consumption.

Rapid and effective hemostasis for a noncompressible hemorrhage is the key to control bleeding and reduce mortality. Chitosan (CS) has been widely used as a popular hemostatic dressing; however, irregularly shaped wounds present in emergencies limit the performance of CS powder. To improve the hemostatic effect of CS, we modified it with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), a fast-swelling sponge triggered by water. The novel synthetic PVA-CS was prepared by cross-linking PVA and CS during foaming and crosslinking reactions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction were utilized to analyze the characteristics of PVA-CS. In vitro, the swelling ratio and blood clotting ability were evaluated in different groups with various weight ratios or degrees of deacetylation of the CS, and the cytocompatibility and cell attachment on the material were analyzed by human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cell testing. In vivo, the hemostatic effects were evaluated in Sprague-Dawley rats and Bama miniature pigs in a femoral artery hemorrhage model or gunshot wound experiment. PVA-CS presents robust mechanical strength, rapid water-triggered swelling and a fast absorption speed. As compared with gauze and PVA, which are widely used in first aid, PVA-CS sponges showed an improved blood clotting ability and increased blood cell and platelet adhesion and activation. The PVA-CS sponges also showed high biocompatibility in cell viability, cell proliferation and cell attachment bioassays. Furthermore, in vivo evaluation of the PVA-CS sponges revealed excellent hemostatic performance and enhanced wound healing with increased re-epithelialization and decreased granulation tissues. The results of this study strongly support the use of these composite sponges for noncompressible hemorrhage in acute trauma and ballistic injuries.

Heimuer, Auricularia heimuer, is one of the most famous traditional Chinese foods and medicines, and it is the third most important cultivated mushroom worldwide. The aim of this study is to develop genomic resources for A. heimuer to furnish tools that can be used to study its secondary metabolite production capability, wood degradation ability and biosynthesis of polysaccharides. The genome was obtained from single spore mycelia of the strain Dai 13782 by using combined high-throughput Illumina HiSeq 4000 system with the PacBio RSII long-read sequencing platform. Functional annotation was accomplished by blasting protein sequences with different public available databases to obtain their corresponding annotations. It is 49.76Mb in size with a N50 scaffold size of 1,350,668bp and encodes 16,244 putative predicted genes. This is the first genome-scale assembly and annotation for A. heimuer, which is the third sequenced species in Auricularia., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.)
