Central nervous system (CNS) infections caused by neurosurgery or intrathecal injection of contaminated cerebrospinal fluid are a common and difficult complication. Drug-delivery microrobots are among the latest solutions proposed for antibacterial applications. However, there is a lack of research into developing microrobots with the ability to sustain antibody delivery while can move efficiently in the CNS. Here, biocompatible antibacterial metal-organic framework (MOF)-modified microrollers (MMRs) to combat CNS infections are proposed. The MMRs are iron-based metal-organic framework (NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe)) modified for enhanced adsorption and Fe/Al coated for magnetic actuation and biocompatibility. The MMRs have demonstrated a faster and unhindered magnetically actuated motion on the uneven biological tissue surface in an organ-on-a-chip that mimicked the CNS compared to it on smooth surface. CFD results consistently align with the experimental findings. The MMRs can be loaded with rhodamine 6G for bioimaging, allowing them to be imaged through sections of the main human tissues by fluorescence microscopy, or tetracycline hydrochloride for antibiotic delivery, allowing them to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus biofilms by sustained release of antibiotics for 9 days. This study provides a strategy to integrate high-capacity adsorption material with magnetically actuated locomotion for long-term targeted antibacterial applications in biological environments.

MXene usually exhibits weak pseudo-capacitance behavior in aqueous zinc-ion batteries, which cannot provide sufficient reversible capacity, resulting in the decline of overall capacity when used as the cathode materials. Taking inspiration from polymer electrolyte engineering, we have conceptualized an in situ induced growth strategy based on MXene materials. Herein, 5.25 % MXene was introduced into the nucleation and growth process of vanadium oxide (HVO), providing the heterogeneous nucleation site and serving as an initiator to regulate the morphology and structural of vanadium oxide (T-HVO). The resulted materials can significantly improve the capacity and rate performance of zinc-ion batteries. The growth mechanism of T-HVO was demonstrated by both characterizations and DFT simulations, and the improved performance was systematically investigated through a series of in situ experiments related to dynamic analysis steps. Finally, the evaluation and comparison of various defect introduction strategies revealed the efficient, safety, and high production output characteristics of the in situ induced growth strategy. The presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) contributes significantly to treatment resistance in various cancers, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Despite this, the relationship between cancer stemness and immunity remains poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to identify potential immunotherapeutic targets and sensitive drugs for CSCs in HNSCC. Using data from public databases, we analyzed expression patterns and prognostic values in HNSCC. The stemness index was calculated using the single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssgsea) algorithm, and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was employed to screen for key stemness-related modules. Consensus clustering was then used to group samples for further analysis, and prognosis-related key genes were identified through regression analysis. Our results showed that tumor samples from HNSCC exhibited higher stemness indices compared to normal samples. WGCNA identified a module highly correlated with stemness, comprising 187 genes, which were significantly enriched in protein digestion and absorption pathways. Furthermore, we identified sensitive drugs targeting prognostic genes associated with tumor stemness. Notably, two genes, HLF and CCL11, were found to be highly associated with both stemness and immunity. In conclusion, our study identifies a stemness-related gene signature and promising drug candidates for CSCs of HNSCC. Aims: Doxorubicin is a powerful chemotherapeutic agent for cancer, whose use is limited due to its potential cardiotoxicity. Semaglutide (SEMA), a novel analog of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), has received widespread attention for the treatment of diabetes. However, increasing evidence has highlighted its potential therapeutic benefits on cardiac function. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine the efficacy of semaglutide in ameliorating doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity., Methods and Results: Doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity is an established model to study cardiac function. Cardiac function was studied by transthoracic echocardiography and invasive hemodynamic monitoring. The results showed that semaglutide significantly ameliorated doxorubicin-induced cardiac dysfunction. RNA sequencing suggested that Bnip3 is the candidate gene that impaired the protective effect of semaglutide in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. To determine the role of BNIP3 on the effect of semaglutide in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, BNIP3 with adeno-associated virus serotype 9 (AAV9) expressing cardiac troponin T (cTnT) promoter was injected into tail vein of C57/BL6J mice to overexpress BNIP3, specifically in the heart. Overexpression of BNIP3 prevented the improvement in cardiac function caused by semaglutide. In vitro experiments showed that semaglutide, via PI3K/AKT pathway, reduced BNIP3 expression in the mitochondria, improving mitochondrial function., Conclusion: Semaglutide ameliorates doxorubicin-induced mitochondrial and cardiac dysfunction via PI3K/AKT pathway, by reducing BNIP3 expression in mitochondria. The improvement in mitochondrial function reduces doxorubicin-mediated cardiac injury and improves cardiac function. Molecular mobility of intracellular water is a crucial parameter in the study of the mechanism of desiccation tolerance. As one of the parameters that reflecting molecular mobility, the viscosity of intracellular water has been found intimately related with the protection of the phospholipid membrane because it quantifies the diffusion ability of water and mass in the intracellular environment. In this work we measured the intracellular water relaxation time, which can be translated into water viscosity, by using a previously established NIR-dielectric method to monitor the drying process of baker's yeast and Jurkat cells with different desiccation tolerance. We found that intracellular saccharide can significantly decrease the intracellular water viscosity. In the field of medical image segmentation, achieving fast and accurate semantic segmentation of tumor cell nuclei and skin lesions is of significant importance. However, the considerable variations in skin lesion forms and cell types pose challenges to attaining high network accuracy and robustness. Additionally, as network depth increases, the growing parameter size and computational complexity make practical implementation difficult. To address these issues, this paper proposes MD-UNet, a fast cell nucleus segmentation network that integrates Tokenized Multi-Layer Perceptron modules, attention mechanisms, and Inception structures. Firstly, tokenized MLP modules are employed to label and project convolutional features, reducing computational complexity. Secondly, the paper introduces Depthwise Attention blocks and Multi-layer Feature Extraction modules. The Depthwise Attention blocks eliminate irrelevant and noisy responses from coarse-scale extracted information, serving as alternatives to skip connections in the UNet architecture. The Multi-layer Feature Extraction modules capture a wider range of high-level and low-level semantic features during decoding and facilitate feature fusion. The proposed MD-UNet approach is evaluated on two datasets: the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC2018) dataset and the PanNuke dataset. Introduction: Vehicle re-identification is a crucial task in intelligent transportation systems, presenting enduring challenges. The primary challenge involves the inefficiency of vehicle re-identification, necessitating substantial time for recognition within extensive datasets. A secondary challenge arises from notable image variations of the same vehicle due to differing shooting angles, lighting conditions, and diverse camera equipment, leading to reduced accuracy. This paper aims to enhance vehicle re-identification performance by proficiently extracting color and category information using a multi-attribute dense connection network, complemented by a distance control module., Methods: We propose an integrated vehicle re-identification approach that combines a multi-attribute dense connection network with a distance control module. By merging a multi-attribute dense connection network that encompasses vehicle HSV color attributes and type attributes, we improve classification rates. The integration of the distance control module widens inter-class distances, diminishes intra-class distances, and boosts vehicle re-identification accuracy., Results: To validate the feasibility of our approach, we conducted experiments using multiple vehicle re-identification datasets. We measured various quantitative metrics, including accuracy, mean average precision, and rank-n. How to efficiently activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in a complex water matrix to degrade organic pollutants still needs greater efforts, and cobalt-based bimetallic nanomaterials are desirable catalysts. In this paper, sea urchin-like NiCo 2 O 4 nanomaterials were successfully prepared and comprehensively characterized for their structural, morphological and chemical properties via techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), among others. The sea urchin-like NiCo 2 O 4 nanomaterials exhibited remarkable catalytic performance in activating PMS to degrade phenol. Within the NiCo 2 O 4 /PMS system, the removal rate of phenol (50 mg L -1 , 250 mL) reached 100% after 45 min, with a reaction rate constant k of 0.091 min -1 , which was 1.4-times higher than that of the monometallic compound Co 3 O 4 /PMS system. The outstanding catalytic activity of sea urchin-like NiCo 2 O 4 primarily arises from the synergistic effect between Ni and Co ions. Additionally, a comprehensive analysis of key parameters influencing the catalytic activity of the sea urchin-like NiCo 2 O 4 /PMS system, including reaction temperature, initial pH of solution, initial concentration, catalyst and PMS dosages and coexisting anions (HCO 3 - , Cl - , NO 3 - and humic acid), was conducted. Cycling experiments show that the material has good chemical stability. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and quenching experiments verified that both radical activation (SO 4 •- , • OH, O 2 •- ) and nonradical activation ( 1 O 2 ) are present in the NiCo 2 O 4 /PMS system. Finally, the possible degradation pathways in the NiCo 2 O 4 /PMS system were proposed based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Favorably, sea urchin-like NiCo 2 O 4 -activated PMS is a promising technology for environmental treatment and the remediation of phenol-induced water pollution problems.

Background: We compared the real-world efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy to chemotherapy alone in patients with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC)., Participants and Methods: A total of 59 consecutive patients were finally selected and divided into two groups: the neoadjuvant chemotherapy group (n = 33) and the neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy group (n = 26). The primary endpoint was disease-free survival (DFS). The secondary endpoints were pathological response, clinical response, and adverse events. All patients were followed up to collect perioperative pathology and clinical data., Results: The objective response rate (ORR), pathological complete response (pCR), and major pathological response (MPR) were significantly higher in the neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy group than in the neoadjuvant chemotherapy group (73.1% vs. 45.5%, 34.6% vs. 3.0%, and 65.3% vs. 15.1%, respectively; P < 0.05 ) . There was no statistically significant difference in disease-free survival between the neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy groups ( P = 0.129). Patients in the neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy group had a higher rate of tumor regression than those in neoadjuvant chemotherapy group (37.0% [25 patients] vs. 29.0% [33 patients], P = 0.018). However, no discernible correlation between MPR achievement and the degree of tumor shrinkage was observed in either group ( P > 0.05). The cumulative MPR rates were 42.3, 50, and 65.3% for 2, 3, and ≥ 4 cycles, respectively, in the neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy group and 9.1, 12.1, and 15.1% for ≤ 2, 3, and ≥ 4 cycles, respectively, in the neoadjuvant chemotherapy group. Moreover, No statistical difference was observed between the two groups regarding postoperative complications, resection range, operation time, surgical method, and extent of resection ( P > 0.05). In recent years, water pollution has posed a serious threat to aquatic organisms and humans. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) show high oxidation, good selectivity, wide pH range and no secondary pollution in the removal of organic pollutants in water. Carbon-based materials are emerging green catalysts that can effectively activate persulfates to generate radical and non-radical active species to degrade organic pollutants. Compared with transition metal catalysts, carbon-based materials are widely used in SR-AOPs because of their low cost, non-toxicity, acid and alkali resistance, large specific surface area, and scalable surface charge, which can be used for selective control of specific water pollutants. This paper mainly presents several carbon-based materials used to activate PMS, including raw carbon materials and modified carbon materials (heteroatom-doped and metal-doped), analyzes and summarizes the mechanism of activating PMS by carbon-based catalysts, and discusses the influencing factors (temperature, pH, PMS concentration, catalyst concentration, inorganic anions, inorganic cations and dissolved oxygen) in the activation process. Aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and genetic environment of the oxazolidinone resistance gene optrA in Streptococcus suis (S. suis) isolates from diseased pigs in China. A total of 178 S. suis isolates were screened for the optrA gene by PCR. The phenotypes and genotypes of optrA-positive isolates were investigated by antimicrobial susceptibility testing, core genome Multilocus Sequence Typing (cgMLST), capsular serotypes determination and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). Fifty-one (28.7%) S. suis isolates were positive for optrA. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the spread of the optrA among S. suis isolates was primarily due to horizontal transfer. Analysis of S. suis serotypes from diseased pigs revealed substantial diversity. The genetic environment of optrA was complex and diverse and could be divided into 12 different types. Interestingly, we identified a novel integrative and conjugative element ICESsu988S, carrying optrA and erm(T) genes. This is to the best of our knowledge the first report of the optrA and erm(T) co-located on an ICE in S. suis. Our results showed a high prevalence of optrA gene in S. suis isolates in China. Bone defects are common in orthopaedics and there is an urgent need to explore effective bone repair materials with osteoinductive activity. Peptide self-assembled nanomaterials have a fibrous structure like that of the extracellular matrix and are ideal bionic scaffold materials. In this study, a short peptide WP9QY (W9) with strong osteoinductive effect was tagged to a self-assembled peptide RADA16 molecule through solid phase synthesis to design a RADA16-W9 peptide gel scaffold. A rat cranial defect was used as a research model to explore the effect of this peptide material on the repair of bone defects in vivo. The structure characteristic of the functional self-assembling peptide nanofiber hydrogel scaffold RADA16-W9 was evaluated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Then adipose stem cells (ASCs) were isolated from Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat and cultured. the cellular compatibility of scaffold was evaluated through Live/Dead assay. Furthermore, we explore the effects of hydrogels in vivo with the critical-sized mouse calvarial defect model. Micro-CT analysis showed that the RADA16-W9 group had higher levels of bone volume/total volume (BV/TV) (P < 0.05)，Trabecular number(TB.N) (P < 0.05)，bone mineral density (BMD)(P < 0.05) and trabecular thickness (Tb. Th) (P < 0.05) compared with the RADA16 and PBS groups. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining showed that RADA16-W9 group had the highest bone regeneration level. Histochemical staining showed significantly higher expression levels of osteogenic factors such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteocalcin (OCN) in the RADA16-W9 group than in the other two groups (P < 0.05). Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) quantification showed higher mRNA expression levels of osteogenic-related genes ALP, Runt-related transcription factor 2(Runx2), OCN, Osteopontin (OPN) in the RADA16-W9 group than in the RADA16 and PBS groups (P < 0.05). The live/dead staining results showed that RADA16-W9 is not toxic to rASCs and has good biocompatibility. Ultraviolet lithography is a very promising technology used for the batch fabrication of biomedical microswimmers. However, creating microswimmers that can swim at low Reynolds number using biocompatible materials while retaining strong magnetic properties and excellent biomedical functionality is a great challenge. Most of the previously reported biomedical microswimmers possess either strong magnetic properties by using non-biocompatible nickel coating or good biocompatibility by using iron oxide particle-embedded hydrogel with weak magnetism, but not both. Alternatively, iron oxide nanoparticles can be coated on the surface of microswimmers to improve magnetic properties; however, this method limited the usability of the microswimmers' surfaces. To address these shortcomings, this work utilized an in situ synthesis technique to generate high magnetic content inside hydrogel-based achiral planar microswimmers while leaving their surfaces free to be functionalized for SERS detection. The hydrogel matrices of the magnetically actuated hydrogel-based microswimmers were first prepared by ultraviolet lithography. Then, the high concentration of iron oxide was achieved through multiple continuous in situ coprecipitation cycles. Finally, the SERS detection capability of magnetically actuated hydrogel-based microswimmers was enabled by uniformly growing silver nanoparticles on the surface of the microswimmers. In the motion control tests, the microswimmers showed a high swimming efficiency, high step-out frequency, and consistent synchronized motion. Pressure, analogous with temperature and composition, is other meaningful variant for tuning the structure-activity properties of layered materials. In-situ high-pressure electrical results discover that Vanadium based MXene (V 2 CT x MXene) conductivity is increased by one order of magnitude from ambient to 10.4 GPa, and then the conductivity is still fixated on meeting growth as pressure releasing. Increased carrier concentration due to denser compactness is the most important factor in improving sample conductivity. Furthermore, abundant of V 2 CT x samples after preloading different pressures are prepared by the mean of the double-anvil hydraulic press for the first time, and results of increased conductivity were reproduced at ambient conditions. The first-principles calculation of V 2 C (non-functional group), V 2 CF, V 2 CO, and V 2 COH explains for the lattice expansion by tracing emotion of different function groups upon decompression. Electrochemical results obtain that once forming V 2 CT x MXene anode rapidly quenched from 2.0 GPa in hydraulic press shows better performance, obviously weakening electric polarization and increasing Li-ion transport rate due to its proper interlaminar densification and improved conductivity. Cell delivery using magnetic microswimmers is a promising tool for targeted therapy. However, it remains challenging to rapidly and uniformly manufacture cell-loaded microswimmers that can be assembled into cell-supporting structures at diseased sites. Here, rapid and uniform manufacturable 2D magnetic achiral microswimmers with pores were fabricated to deliver bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) to regenerate articular-damaged cartilage. Under actuation with magnetic fields, the BMSC-loaded microswimmers take advantage of the achiral structure to exhibit rolling or swimming motions to travel on smooth and rough surfaces, up inclined planes, or in the bulk fluid. Cell viability, proliferation, and differentiation tests performed days after cell seeding verified the microswimmers' biocompatibility. Long-distance targeting and in situ assemblies into 3D cell-supporting structures with BMSC-loaded microswimmers were demonstrated using a knee model and U-shaped wells. Overall, combining the advantages of preparing an achiral 2D structured microswimmer with magnetically driven motility results in a platform for cell transport and constructing 3D cell cultures that can improve cell delivery at lesion sites for biomedical applications.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most commonly diagnosed solid tumor. Natural killer (NK) cell-based immunotherapy is a promising anti-tumor strategy in various cancers including NSCLC., Objective: We aimed to investigate the specific mechanisms that regulate the killing effect of NK cells to NSCLC cells., Methods: Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) assay was applied to measure the levels of hsa-microRNA (miR)-301a-3p and Runt-related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α. Lactate dehydrogenase assay was applied to detect the killing effect of NK cells. Dualluciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were carried out to confirm the regulatory relationship between hsa-miR-301a-3p and RUNX3., Results: A low expression of hsa-miR-301a-3p was observed in NK cells stimulated by IL-2. The levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α were increased in NK cells of the IL-2 group. Overexpression of hsa-miR-301a-3p reduced the levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α as well as the killing effect of NK cells. Furthermore, RUNX3 was identified to be a target of hsamiR-301a-3p. hsa-miR-301a-3p suppressed the cytotoxicity of NK cells to NSCLC cells by inhibiting the expression of RUNX3. We found hsa-miR-301a-3p promoted tumor growth by suppressing the killing effect of NK cells against NSCLC cells in vivo., Conclusions: Hsa-miR-301a-3p suppressed the killing effect of NK cells on NSCLC cells by targeting RUNX3, which may provide promising strategies for NK cell-based antitumor therapies.

We studied the structure-function relationship of compressed Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene using high-pressure in situ synchrotron radiation, impedance spectroscopy, Hall effect measurements, and first-principles calculations. With increasing pressure, the conductivity of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene increases along with its continued lattice shrinkage. A pressure range of 0.4-2.2 GPa exhibits a sharp decrease in resistance, which decreases by more than one order of magnitude from 3.3 × 10 4 to 1.4 × 10 3 Ω. A pressure range of 2.2-6.6 GPa exhibits a steady resistance with a slight decrease of 0.2%. As the pressure drops to atmospheric conditions, the resistance increases slightly to 4.2 × 10 3 Ω. This is accompanied by a transformation of the semiconductor into metal. An irreversible increase in conductivity is observed owing to an increase in the electron concentration and a decrease in the grain-boundary potential barrier. Furthermore, abundant Ti 3 C 2 T x undergoing prepressure treatments (0.4, 2.0, and 4.0 GPa) was first prepared using a double-anvil hydraulic press. The recycled samples retain an accordion-like layered structure with slight lattice shrinkage while the voids between the sheets contract considerably, increasing the density. Correspondingly, electrochemical results show a pressure threshold of 2.0 GPa based on the rapid quenching from the hydraulic press. This weakens the electric polarization in redox reactions and increases the ionic transport rate for the formation of a Ti 3 C 2 T x anode owing to pressure improving the conductivity and interlaminar densification. Our study shows a new, simple, and universal way to regulate various MXenes and also promotes the application of MXene-based materials in energy storage and related fields.

This study investigated the effect of dietary Macleaya cordata extract (MCE) supplementation on the growth performance, serum parameters, and intestinal microbiota of yellow-feather broilers under heat stress. A total of 216 yellow-feather broilers (28-days-old) were randomly allotted into three groups. A control group (CON) (24 ± 2 °C) and heat stress group (HS) (35 ± 2 °C) received a basal diet, and heat-stressed plus MCE groups (HS-MCE) (35 ± 2 °C) were fed the basal diet with 1000 mg/kg MCE for 14 consecutive days. The results revealed that MCE supplementation improved the final body weight, average daily feed intake, average daily gain, and spleen index when compared with the HS group (p < 0.05). In addition, MCE supplementation decreased (p < 0.05) the activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, and creatinine, and increased (p < 0.05) the glucose level and alkaline phosphatase activity in heat-stressed yellow-feathered broilers. Moreover, MCE treatment alleviated heat-stress-induced intestinal flora disturbances, decreased the Bacteroidota and Bacteroides relative abundances, and increased Firmicutes. A linear discriminant analysis effect size analysis found five differentially abundant taxa in the HS-MCE group, including Alistipes, Rikenellaceae, Mogibacterium, Butyrivibrio, and Lachnospira. These results suggest that MCE can alleviate HS-induced decline in growth performance by modulating blood biochemical markers and cecal flora composition in broilers.

Integrative conjugative elements (ICEs) are important carriers for disseminating resistance genes. We have previously reported a novel element ICE Hpa1 carrying seven antibiotic resistance genes, which could be self-transmissible relying on the novel T4SS. To identify novel ICE Hpa1 variants from 211 strains and novel T4SS encoded in ICE Hpa1 , and to explore the relationships in these ICEs, four complete sequences of ICEs were identified by WGS analysis and antimicrobial susceptibility testing was determined by broth microdilution. In addition, a comparative analysis of these ICEs was conducted with bioinformatic tools, and the transfer abilities of these ICEs were confirmed by conjugation. Four ICE Hpa1 variants ICE Gpa1818 , ICE Gpa1808 , ICE Gpa1807 , and ICE Gpa1815 with different resistance gene profiles were characterized, and their hosts showed different resistance spectrums. All ICEs shared the same backbone and were inserted into the tRNA Leu site, and all resistance regions were inserted into the same target site between the accessory and integration regions. This study analyzed complete sequences of ICEs from the ICE Hpa1 family and identified novel T4SS and insertion element IS Gpa2 . Uncontrolled growth, distant metastasis and chemoresistance are critical characteristics of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), and they result in high mortality; however, the mechanisms triggering these effects have not been fully investigated. In this study, we analysed a dataset in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and identified PCDH1, a rarely studied transmembrane protein, as a novel prognostic marker in PDAC patients. We demonstrated that PCDH1 expression was upregulated in PDAC tissues, and its expression levels were associated with the depth of tumour invasion and lymph node metastasis. Patients with high PCDH1 levels showed poor overall survival (OS). We also investigated the biological significance of PCDH1 in PDAC cell growth, metastasis, and side population (SP) phenotype acquisition and explored the internal molecular mechanisms of PCDH1 action. Our results demonstrated that PCDH1 enhanced p65 nuclear localization by interacting with KPNB1, a well-characterized nuclear transporter, thereby activating the NF-κB signalling pathway and increasing its functional effects during PDAC progression. As an important chemical raw material, styrene has a high price because of its high energy consumption for separation. This article focuses on the styrene separation unit in a practical propylene oxide/styrene monomer process, and divided wall columns (DWC) are used for process optimization. Four DWC models are evaluated in terms of both economics based on the minimum total annual cost (TAC) and operability based on degrees of freedom. Differential evolutionary (DE) algorithms are used to optimize the parameters for each case study. In the process of finding the minimum TAC, the traditional DE often falls into local solutions and has low efficiency. In order to solve this problem, we propose chaotic sequences in DE algorithms to generate variables with ergodicity, which improves the optimization efficiency. Compared with the conventional process, Wright's fully thermally coupled DWC (FTC) and Agrawal's liquid-only transfer DWC (ALT) can save 21.36 and 10.14% TAC, respectively, but ALT has 2 more degrees of freedom than FTC. With the rapid development of information technology, the scale of complex networks is increasing, which makes the spread of diseases and rumors harder to control. Identifying the influential nodes effectively and accurately is critical to predict and control the network system pertinently. Some existing influential nodes detection algorithms do not consider the impact of edges, resulting in the algorithm effect deviating from the expected. Some consider the global structure of the network, resulting in high computational complexity. To solve the above problems, based on the information entropy theory, we propose an influential nodes evaluation algorithm based on the entropy and the weight distribution of the edges connecting it to calculate the difference of edge weights and the influence of edge weights on neighbor nodes. We select eight real-world networks to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the algorithm. We verify the infection size of each node and top-10 nodes according to the ranking results by the SIR model. Otherwise, the Kendall [Formula: see text] coefficient is used to examine the consistency of our algorithm with the SIR model. To improve the performance of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, herein, based on the idea of designing a material that can adsorb polysulfides and improve the reaction kinetics, a Co,N-co-doped graphene composite (Co-N-G) was prepared. According to the characterization of Co-N-G, there was a homogeneous and dispersed distribution of N and Co active sites embedded in the Co-N-G sample. The 2D sheet-like microstructure and Co, N with a strong binding energy provided significant physical and chemical adsorption functions, which are conducive to the bonding S and suppression of LiPSs. Moreover, the dispersed Co and N as catalysts promoted the reaction kinetics in Li-S batteries via the reutilization of LiPSs and reduced the electrochemical resistance. Thus, the discharge specific capacity in the first cycle for the Co-N-G/S battery reached 1255.7 mA h g -1 at 0.2C. After 100 cycles, it could still reach 803.0 mA h g -1 , with a retention rate of about 64%. Introduction: FOXD2-AS1 is known to promote the development of several cancers. However, its role in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) is unclear., Methods: Expression of FOXD2-AS1 and miR-30a-3p in PAAD patients was analyzed with RT-qPCR. A follow-up study was performed to analyze the prognostic value of FOXD2-AS1 for PAAD. Overexpression assays were performed to analyze the crosstalk between FOXD2-AS1 and miR-30a-3p. Cell invasion and migration were analyzed by transwell assays., Results: Analysis of the TCGA dataset revealed that FOXD2-AS1 was upregulated in PAAD tissues compared to the non-cancer tissues (1.89 vs. 0.2 TPM), indicating potential involvement of FOXD2-AS1 in PAAD. Our own data also showed FOXD2-AS1 was overexpressed in PAAD. Moreover, high FOXD2-AS1 levels predicted poor survival. It is predicted that miR-30a-3p can bind FOXD2-AS1, while their overexpression did not affect each other's expression. Correlation analysis revealed a significant correlation between FOXD2-AS1 and COX-2. In addition, FOXD2-AS1 overexpression increased COX-2 level, while miR-30a-3p played an opposite role. FOXD2-AS1 and COX-2 overexpression increased PAAD cell invasion and migration. MiR-30a-3p played an opposite role and inhibited the effects of FOXD2-AS1 and COX-2 overexpression., Conclusion: FOXD2-AS1 may promote PAAD cell invasion and migration by sponging miR-30a-3p to upregulate COX-2.

In this work, a recyclable self-floating A-GUN-coated (Ag/AgCl@g-C 3 N 4 @UIO-66(NH 2 )-coated) foam was fabricated for effective inactivation of Microcystis aeruginosa (M. aeruginosa) under visible light. The floating photocatalyst was able to inactivate 98% of M. aeruginosa within 180 min under the visible-light irrigation, and the floating photocatalyst exhibited a stable performance in various conditions. Moreover, the inactivation efficiency can still maintain nearly 92% after five times recycle experiments, showing excellent photocatalytic stability. Furthermore, effects of A-GUN/SMF floating catalyst on the physiological properties, cellular organics, and algal functional groups of M. aeruginosa were studied. The floating photocatalyst can not only make full use of excellent photocatalytic activities of A-GUN nanocomposite, but also promote contact between catalyst and algae, and realize the effective recovery of the photocatalyst. LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 (NCM811) became a research hot point because of its low cost, environmental friendliness, and excellent electrochemical performance. However, Li + /Ni 2+ intermixing is an essential factor affecting its applicability. Doping could be an important method to improve the electrochemical performance of NCM811-based cathode materials. In this work, La and Al co-doped NCM811 was prepared by a solid-state method. Results from X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and electrochemical performance were discussed in depth. These showed that when La and Al doping concentrations were 1 and 0.5%, the samples showed the best performance. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious complication of diabetes, which importantly contributes to the increased mortality of patients with diabetes. The development of DCM is accompanied by numerous pathological mechanisms, including oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. Accordingly, the present study aimed to determine the effects of the sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) inhibitor OSS‑128167 on DCM using a mouse model of streptozotocin (STZ)‑induced diabetes and high glucose (HG)‑treated cardiomyocytes. C57BL/6 mice were intraperitoneally injected with STZ for 5 days to simulate the diabetic cardiomyopathy model. Mice with STZ‑induced diabetes (STZ‑DM1) were orally administered OSS‑128167 (20 or 50 mg/kg) through gavage every other day. The expression of SIRT6 in myocardial tissue was detected using western blotting. Tissue staining (hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's trichrome) was used to characterize myocardial structure, TUNEL fluorescent staining was used to detect myocardial apoptosis, and immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of inflammatory factors in myocardial tissue. Dihydroethidium staining and a malondialdehyde (MDA) detection kit were used to detect the oxidative stress levels in myocardial tissues. In vitro , H9c2 cells were pre‑incubated with OSS‑128167 for 1 h and then stimulated with HG (33 mM) for various durations. Expression levels of fibrosis markers, collagen‑1 and transforming growth factor (TGF)‑β, apoptosis‑related proteins, Bax, Bcl‑2 and cleaved‑poly ADP‑ribose polymerase, tumor necrosis factor‑α and the oxidative stress metabolite, 3‑nitrotyrosine were analyzed using western blotting and reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR. Commercially available kits were used to detect the activity of caspase‑3 and the content of MDA in the H9c2 cell line. The corresponding results demonstrated that OSS‑128167 aggravated diabetes‑induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis and fibrosis in mice. Mechanistically, OSS‑128167 was revealed to increase the levels of inflammatory factors and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in vitro and in vivo . In conclusion, OSS‑128167 facilitated the inflammatory response and promoted the production of ROS while aggravating DCM development. These findings indicated that SIRT6 may target two closely combined and interacting pathological processes, the inflammatory response and oxidative stress, and may serve as a potentially advantageous therapeutic target.

Background: Shortages of qualified health workers have been a global concern, especially in developing countries. China also faces this dilemma, which hinders the development of public health services. Senior high school students are a group who are considering their college majors and careers after graduation. They are also a potential and basic talent reserve for the health sector. This survey focused on senior high school students' intention to learn clinical medicine and explored potential influencing factors., Methods: An anonymous questionnaire containing 20 items was distributed to 5344 senior high school students. The questions covered the following topics: students' intention to learn clinical medicine, personal and family information, understanding of medical education, cognition of doctors' working conditions, and doctor-patient relationships. Logistic regression and the chi-square test were used to compare students with and without a clear intention to learn clinical medicine to explore influencing factors., Results: Only 5.6% of senior high school students had a clear intention to learn medicine (CILCM). Personal and family information had distinct impacts. Interest and anatomy course were also associated with students' choice. There was a positive correlation between understanding of medical education and students' intention Meanwhile, students' cognition of doctors, career prospects, and social status had significant impacts. The more optimistic students were about doctors' working conditions and doctor-patient relationships, the more likely they were to have a CILCM., Conclusion: To some extent, this survey reflects the shortage of medical talent in China and provides possible clues for solving this problem. In addition, these findings may provide a perspective for understanding the development of health services in developing countries.

Glucocorticoid excess often causes a variety of cardiovascular complications, including hypertension, atherosclerosis, and cardiac hypertrophy. To abrogate its cardiac side effects, it is necessary to fully disclose the pathophysiological role of glucocorticoid in cardiac remodelling. Previous clinical and experimental studies have found that omentin-1, one of the adipokines, has beneficial effects in cardiovascular diseases, and is closely associated with metabolic disorders. However, there is no evidence to address the potential role of omentin-1 in glucocorticoid excess-induced cardiac injuries. To uncover the links, the present study utilized rat model with glucocorticoid-induced cardiac injuries and clinical patients with abnormal cardiac function. Chronic administration of glucocorticoid excess reduced rat serum omentin-1 concentration, which closely correlated with cardiac functional parameters. Intravenous administration of adeno-associated virus encoding omentin-1 upregulated the circulating omentin-1 level and attenuated glucocorticoid excess-induced cardiac hypertrophy and functional disorders. Overexpression of omentin-1 also improved cardiac mitochondrial function, including the reduction of lipid deposits, induction of mitochondrial biogenesis, and enhanced mitochondrial activities. Mechanistically, omentin-1 phosphorylated and activated the GSK3β pathway in the heart. From a study of 28 patients with Cushing's syndrome and 23 healthy subjects, the plasma level of glucocorticoid was negatively correlated with omentin-1, and was positively associated with cardiac ejection fraction and fractional shortening. Collectively, the present study provided a novel role of omentin-1 in glucocorticoid excess-induced cardiac injuries and found that the omentin-1/GSK3β pathway was a potential therapeutic target in combating the side effects of glucocorticoid.

Purpose: To investigate whether RBM6 can serve as a suppressor gene in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and affect its progression., Methods: QPCR and Western blot were carried out to measure RBM6 expression in tissue samples collected from HCC patients with different tumor sizes or in different stages. The relationship between overall survival (OS) and RBM6 expression in patients with HCC was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival method. Meanwhile, the effects of different factors on HCC progression were evaluated through Cox regression analysis. After over-expression of RBM6 in HepG2 and HB611 cells, the cell viability, cell migration and invasion abilities and apoptosis rate were assessed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), transwell assay, and flow cytometry analysis, respectively., Results: RBM6 expression, markedly down-regulated in HCC tissues, showed a great relevance to tumor size, TNM stage, and histological grade, and the survival rate of patients in high RBM6 expression group was higher than those in low RBM6 expression group. Besides, Cox regression analysis revealed that RBM6 expression, tumor size, TNM stage and histological grade were four independent factors affecting the OS of HCC patients. Moreover, in vitro cell experiments demonstrated that overexpression of RBM6 significantly attenuated the cell viability as well as the invasive ability while enhanced cell apoptosis., Conclusions: The low expression of RBM6 contributes to the improvement of the survival of patients with HCC. Therefore, RBM6 can serve as a tumor-suppressing gene to repress cell proliferation, migration and invasion and promote cell apoptosis, thereby affecting the progression of HCC.

With the rapid development of computer technology, the research on complex networks has attracted more and more attention. At present, the research directions of cloud computing, big data, internet of vehicles, and distributed systems with very high attention are all based on complex networks. Community structure detection is a very important and meaningful research hotspot in complex networks. It is a difficult task to quickly and accurately divide the community structure and run it on large-scale networks. In this paper, we put forward a new community detection approach based on internode attraction, named IACD. This algorithm starts from the perspective of the important nodes of the complex network and refers to the gravitational relationship between two objects in physics to represent the forces between nodes in the network dataset, and then perform community detection. Through experiments on a large number of real-world datasets and synthetic networks, it is shown that the IACD algorithm can quickly and accurately divide the community structure, and it is superior to some classic algorithms and recently proposed algorithms.

The polycrystalline thin films of BiFeO 3 (BFO) and Bi 0.90 Ho 0.10 Fe 1-x Ti x O (x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20) were successfully synthesized by the simple sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectra revealed the substitution of Bi and Fe by Ho and Ti, respectively, and correspondingly a structural phase transition from the rhombohedral phase to orthorhombic phase. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images indicated that the average size of the particles was decreased and the surface homogeneous agglomeration was enhanced with the increased concentration of Ti to x = 0.05. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements illustrated that Fe 3+ and O 2- ions tended to increase with the Ti concentration increase, which accounted for the enhanced super-exchange interaction between Fe 3+ and O 2- . Because of the reduced concentration of oxygen vacancies, Ho and Ti ions with a smaller ionic radius and denser surface structure, the Ho and Ti co-substituted films with an appropriate concentration of Ti ( x = 0.05) showed an optimal saturation magnetization ( M s ) of 44.23 emu/cm 3 and remanent magnetization ( M r ) of 4.62 emu/cm 3 , which were approximately 1.8 times and 1.9 times than that of the pure BFO, respectively. In this work, compared with the corresponding pure CsPbCl 3 nanocrystals (NCs) and Mn 2+ -doped CsPbCl 3 NCs, Mn 2+ /Cu 2+ -codoped CsPbCl 3 NCs exhibited improved photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence quantum yields (PL QYs) (57.6%), prolonged PL lifetimes (1.78 ms), and enhanced thermal endurance (523 K) as a result of efficient Mn 2+ doping (3.66%) induced by the addition of CuCl 2 . Furthermore, we applied pressure on Mn 2+ /Cu 2+ -codoped CsPbCl 3 NCs to reveal that a red shift of photoluminescence followed by a blue shift was caused by band gap evolution and related to the structural phase transition from cubic to orthorhombic. Moreover, we also found that under the preheating condition of 523 K, such phase transition exhibited obvious morphological invariance, accompanied by significantly enhanced conductivity. The pressure applied to the products treated with high temperature enlarged the electrical difference and easily intensified the interface by closer packaging. Interestingly, defect-triggered mixed ionic and electronic conducting (MIEC) was observed in annealed NCs when the applied pressure was 2.9 GPa. The pressure-dependent ionic conduction was closely related to local nanocrystal amorphization and increased deviatoric stress, as clearly described by in situ impedance spectra. Finally, retrieved products exhibited better conductivity (improved by 5-6 times) and enhanced photoelectric response than those when pressure was not applied. Our findings not only reveal the pressure-tuned optical and electrical properties via structural progression but also open up the promising exploration of more amorphous all-inorganic CsPbX 3 -based photoelectric applications.

Co 3+ doping in BiFeO 3 is expected to be an effective method for improving its magnetic properties. In this work, pristine BiFeO 3 (BFO) and doped BiFe 1-x Co x O 3 (BFC x O, x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.10) composite thin films were successfully synthesized by a sol-gel technique. XRD and Raman spectra indicate that the Co 3+ ions are substituted for the Fe 3+ ion sites in the BFO rhombohedral lattice. Raman vibration of oxygen octahedron is obviously weakened due to the lattice distortion induced by the size mismatch between two B-site cations (Fe 3+ and Co 3+ ions), which has an impact on the magnetic properties of BFC x O. SEM images reveal a denser agglomeration in Co-doped samples. TEM results indicate that the average size of grains is reduced due to the Co 3+ substitution. XPS measurements illustrate that the replacement of Fe 3+ with Co 3+ effectively suppresses the generation of oxygen defects and increases the concentration of Fe 3+ ions at the B-site of perovskite lattice. Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurements show that the remanent magnetization (Mr) of BFC 0.07 O (3.6 emu/cm 3 ) and the saturation magnetization (Ms) of BFC 0.10 O (48.84 emu/cm 3 ) thin film both increase by approximately two times at room temperature, compared with that of the pure BFO counterpart.

The Sol-gel method is successfully used to prepare high specific surface area TiO 2 (HSTiO 2 ). Then, the photodeposition method is used to composite silver particles with HSTiO 2 . X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and UV-vis spectroscopy are used to characterize the Ag/HSTiO 2 nanocomposites. It can be concluded that the prepared TiO 2 has a large specific surface area, reaching 125.5 m 2 g -1 . Additionally, the addition of silver particles successfully broadens the photoresponse range from the UV region to the visible light region. In order to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of Ag/HSTiO 2 , we conducted the methyl orange degradation test. Purpose: To investigate whether miR-449a can regulate the biological functions of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells by targeting special AT-rich sequence binding protein 1 (SATB1)., Methods: qRT-PCR and western blot were carried out to detect the expression of miR-449a and SATB1 in normal human hepatocyte cell line HL-7702 and in HCC cells SMMC-7721, Hep3B, HepG2, and Bel-7402. miR-449a-mimics, miR-negative control (miR-NC), specifically inhibited SATB1 RNA (si-SATB1), specifically overexpressed SATB1 RNA (sh-SATB1), and negative control RNA (Si-NC) were transfected into the Hep3B and Bel-7402 cells. MTT assay, Transwell assay and flow cytometry were conducted to detect cell proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis. Dual luciferase reporter assay was performed to determine the relationship between miR-449a and SATB1., Results: miR-449a was highly but SATB1 was poorly expressed in HCC cells. According to the cell experiments, the up-regulation of miR-449a expression could inhibit the proliferation and invasion of HCC cells, promote their apoptosis, and significantly reduce SATB1 expression. The inhibition of SATB1 expression could inhibit the proliferation and invasion and promote apoptosis. The dual luciferase reporter assay confirmed that there was a targeted regulatory relationship between miR-449a and SATB., Conclusion: miR-449a can inhibit the proliferation and invasion of HCC cells and promote their apoptosis through the targeted regulation of SATB1, so it is expected to become a potential therapeutic target for this disease in clinical practice.

Aim: Several studies reported the association of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), but the results remain controversial. Therefore, we investigated the prognostic value of PLR in NPC through meta-analysis. Materials & methods: A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Embase and Web of Science was performed. Results: A total of 9 studies comprising of 3459 patients with NPC were included. The data demonstrated that an increased PLR predicted poor overall survival, progression-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival. There was no significant association between PLR and sex, age, T stage, N stage, tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage or intensity-modulated radiotherapy. Conclusion: This meta-analysis revealed that PLR might be a potential predicative biomarker of poor prognosis in patients with NPC.

The charge carrier behavior and dielectric properties of BaF 2 :Tb 3+ nanocrystals have been studied by alternating current (AC) impedance spectroscopy. The electron and ion coexist in the transport process. The F - ion's contribution to the total conduction increases with the doping concentration up to 4% and then decreases. Tb doping leads to the increase of defect quantities and a variation of charge carrier transport paths, which causes the increase of the ion diffusion coefficient and the decreases of bulk and grain boundary resistance. When the Tb-doped concentration is higher than 4%, the effect of deformation potential scattering variation on the transport property is dominant, which results in the decrease of the ion diffusion coefficient and increases of bulk and grain boundary resistance. The conduction properties of our BaF 2 :Tb 3+ nanocrystals are compared with previous results that were found for the single crystals of rare earth-doped BaF 2 . Purpose: Several lines of evidence support the fact that the presence of oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathophysiological mechanisms of schizophrenia (SCZ). The glutathione peroxidases (GPXs) and glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are the major antioxidant enzymes. Polymorphic variants of GPX and GST can affect the antioxidant activities of their encoded enzymes. This study explored the possible associations of the GSTA1 and GPX3 gene polymorphisms and schizophrenia in Chinese Han population., Methods: DNA from 648 healthy controls and 617 schizophrenic patients was genotyped for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs3957357 in GSTA1 and rs736775 in GPX3 using a PCR-LDR genotyping assay. The χ 2 test compared differences in genetic distributions between the two groups in a case-control study. The generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) was used to explore the interaction between the GSTA1 gene and the GPX3 gene on the risk of SCZ., Results: Significant differences in allelic and genotypic frequencies of GSTA1 rs3957357 were present between SCZ and control groups ( GSTA1 rs3957357 χ 2 =6.172, P =0.046 by genotype, χ 2 =5.847, P =0.016, odds ratio=1.329, 95% confidence interval=1.055-1.674 by allele). No significant differences in allelic or genotypic frequencies of GPX3 rs736775 were detected between cases and controls ( GPX3 rs736775: χ 2 =2.058, P =0.357 by genotype, χ 2 =1.853, P =0.173, odds ratio=1.131, 95% confidence interval=0.953-1.342 by allele). Moreover, the GMDR model showed that the interaction between GSTA1 rs3957357 and GPX3 rs736775 was associated significantly with SCZ risk, P =0.0107., Conclusion: Our results suggest that GSTA1 rs3957357 SNP has an effect on the risk of SCZ and the interaction between GSTA1 rs3957357and GPX3 rs736775 may affect the development of SCZ in Chinese Han population. Dumbbell Ag 2 CO 3 -ZnO heterojunctions were synthesized for the first time via a simple in situ precipitation method. The as-prepared Ag 2 CO 3 -ZnO heterojunction showed high photocatalytic activity in the decomposition of methyl orange aqueous solution under simulated solar irradiation. The high improvement of photocatalytic activity compared to that of pure ZnO can be attributed to the formation of the Ag 2 CO 3 -ZnO heterojunction. Furthermore, the mechanism of photocatalytic activity was investigated in detail. The free radical trapping experiments indicated that the superoxide radical (·O 2 - ) was an important active species in the photocatalytic process. Highly dispersed ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 composites with different doping ratios of g-C 3 N 4 were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The preparation method is simple and the energy consumption is low. The composite samples were used to degradate the methyl orange solution. They all showed excellent photocatalytic activity and cycling stability. The optimal loading content of g-C 3 N 4 was investigated, and the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity was studied in detail. Herein, high-energy {001} facets and Sn 4+ doping have been demonstrated to be effective strategies to improve the surface characteristics, photon absorption, and charge transport of TiO 2 hierarchical nanospheres, thereby improving their photocatalytic performance. The TiO 2 hierarchical nanospheres under different reaction times were prepared by solvothermal method. The TiO 2 hierarchical nanospheres (24 h) expose the largest area of {001} facets, which is conducive to increase the density of surface active sites to degrade the adsorbed methylene blue (MB), enhance light scattering ability to absorb more incident photons, and finally, improve photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the Sn x Ti 1- x O 2 (STO) hierarchical nanospheres are fabricated by Sn 4+ doping, in which the Sn 4+ doping energy level and surface hydroxyl group are beneficial to broaden the light absorption range, promote the generation of charge carriers, and retard the recombination of electron-hole pairs, thereby increasing the probability of charge carriers participating in photocatalytic reactions. Compared with TiO 2 hierarchical nanospheres (24 h), the STO hierarchical nanospheres with 5% n Sn / n Ti molar ratio exhibit a 1.84-fold improvement in photodegradation of MB arising from the enhanced light absorption ability, increased number of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, and prolonged charge carrier lifetime. In addition, the detailed mechanisms are also discussed in the present paper.

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of tumor‑associated mortality, and >75% of patients with lung cancer have non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Pemetrexed, a folate antagonist, is a first‑line chemotherapy drug for NSCLC that is administered alone or in combination with cisplatin. The present study established in vitro cell models of PTEN inhibition and overexpression, and the effects of the treatment with pemetrexed were investigated in these cell models. Result from the present study demonstrated that treatment with pemetrexed suppressed lung cancer cell proliferation, inhibited mRNA and protein expression levels of anti‑apoptotic Bcl2, and increased the mRNA and the protein expression levels of pro‑apoptotic p53 and apoptosis regulator BAX. The present study suggested that pemetrexed regulated apoptosis via the inhibition of the mTOR/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Additionally, cellular processes associated with the aerobic oxidation of carbohydrates were identified to be significantly inhibited. The present findings suggested that treatment with pemetrexed may exhibit synergistic effects with PTEN on lung cancer cells via the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and through carbohydrate metabolism, and treatment with pemetrexed combined with PTEN overexpression may represent a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of NSCLC.

Mn 2+ :CsPbCl 3 nanocrystals (NCs) were synthesized using a modified one-pot injection method, which exhibits significantly improved thermal stability. For the first time, the pressure-treated optical and structural properties of synthetic Mn 2+ :CsPbCl 3 NCs were further investigated, and their associated intriguing electrical and photoelectric properties were revealed from impedance spectra and photocurrent measurements under compression. The pressure-dependent photoluminescence experienced an initial redshift before 1.7 GPa followed by a continuous blueshift, as evidenced by the bandgap shifts. High-pressure XRD spectra uncovered a cubic-to-orthorhombic structural transition at about 1.1 GPa and subsequent amorphization upon further compression, which was fully reversible. Furthermore, the sample annealing from 340 K drove grain growth and decreased grain boundary resistance at ambient pressure. The compression further decreased the grain boundary barrier and improved the electrical conductivity (up to ∼10 -2 Ω -1 cm -1 ) of the thermally annealed Mn 2+ :CsPbCl 3 NC surface. Simultaneous photocurrent enhancement of thermally annealed NCs was also achieved as expected, and reached optimal performance at 0.7 GPa. Strikingly, after the pressure cycling (loading-releasing), the results show that thermally annealed Mn 2+ :CsPbCl 3 NCs gained preservable higher electrical conductivity (∼10 times increase) and an improved photoelectric response compared to the ambient state before compression. This work proves that high pressure is useful for opening the versatility in the structure and properties of metal-halide perovskite nanocrystals leading to a promising way for superior optoelectronic materials-by-design.

In this work, the hierarchical tin oxide nanoflowers have been successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method followed by calcination. The as-obtained samples were investigated as a kind of gas sensing material candidate for methanol. A series of examinations has been performed to explore the structure, morphology, element composition, and gas sensing performance of as-synthesized product. The hierarchical tin oxide nanoflowers exhibit sensitivity to 100 ppm methanol and the response is 58, which is ascribed to the hierarchical structure. The response and recovery time are 4 s and 8 s, respectively. Moreover, the as-prepared sensor has a low working temperature of 200 °C which is lower than that for other gas sensors of such type has been reported elsewhere. The excellent sensitivity of the sensor is caused by its complex phase mixture of SnO, SnO 2 , Sn 2 O 3 , and Sn 6 O 4 revealed by XRD analysis. The proposed hierarchical tin oxide nanoflowers gas sensing material is promising for development of methanol gas sensor. The as-obtained hierarchical tin oxide nanoflower (HTONF) gas sensor shows excellent gas-sensing performance at low working temperature (200 °C) and high annealing temperature (400 °C).

The nanostructures with uniform long-range ordered structure are of crucial importance for performance standardization of high-quality surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra. In this paper, we described the fabrication and SERS properties of Au decorated Cu (Au@Cu) nanoarrays. The Cu nanoarrays with uniform long-range ordered structure were first synthesized by in-situ electrochemistry assembly on insulated substrate. The Cu nanoarrays can reach a size of centimeters with strictly periodic nano-microstructure, which is beneficial for the production and performance standardization of SERS substrates. Then Au nanoparticals were decorated on the Cu nanoarrays by galvanic reaction without any capping agent. The obtained Au@Cu nanoarrays exhibit excellent SERS activity for 4-Mercaptopyridine, and the sensitivity limit is as low as 10 -8 M. Therefore, this facile route provides a useful platform for the fabrication of SERS substrates based on nano ordered arrays.

The structural phase transition of synthetic ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles (ZFO NPs) is investigated as a function of pressure up to 40.6 GPa at room temperature for the first time, and its associated intriguing electrical transport properties are resolved from in situ impedance spectra and magnetoresistivity measurements. Significant anomalies are observed in the properties of the grain boundary resistance ( R gb ), the relaxation frequency ( f max ), and the relative permittivity (ε r ) in the ZFO NPs under the pressures around 17.5-21.5 GPa. These anomalies are believed to be correlated with a cubic-to-orthorhombic phase transition of ZnFe 2 O 4 at the pressures between 21.9 and 25.7 GPa, which is found to be partially reversible. The pressure-tuned dielectric properties are measured for the cubic and the orthorhombic phases of ZFO, respectively. Remarkably, R gb decreases up to 6 orders of magnitude as a function of pressure in the cubic phase. The dielectric polarization is obviously strengthened with increased f max and decreased ε r with pressure in the orthorhombic phase. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the external pressure effectively improves the electrochemical stability of the sample based on the cycled measurements of the impedance spectra at various pressures. The changes in the complex permittivity (ε', ε″) and the dielectric loss tangent (tan δ) with frequency reveal the irreversible increase in the dielectric loss accompanied by phase transition. The MR measurements indicate that ZFO NPs are superparamagnetic under high pressure of up to 40 GPa. The transmission electron microscopy images reflect the decrease in the grain boundary number and some local amorphization of grains after compression, which provides good explanations for the changes in the electrical transport properties as a function of pressure. Herein, the structural and electrical properties of ZnFe 2 O 4 NPs generated are preserved by quenching the high-pressure phase to ambient conditions, thus providing great choices of ferrites materials for a variety of applications.

The ionic transportation and dielectric properties of YF₃:Eu 3+ nanocrystals are investigated by AC impedance spectroscopy. The ion diffusion coefficient and conductivity increase along with the doping concentration and reach their highest values at 4% of Eu 3+ . The difference of ionic radius between Eu 3+ and Y 3+ leads to the structural disorder and lattice strain, which deduces the increase of the ion diffusion coefficient and conductivity before 4% Eu 3+ doping; then the interaction of the neighboring doping ions is dominated, which results in the difficulty of ion migration and decreases of the ion diffusion coefficient and conductivity. The strong dispersion of the permittivity in the low frequency region indicates that the charge carrier transport mechanism is the ion hopping in the system. The low-frequency hopping dispersion is affected by an interfacial polarization, which exhibits a Maxwell-Wagner relaxation process, and its loss peak shifts to higher frequency with the ionic conductivity increasing.

The improvement of ferromagnetic properties is critical for the practical application of multiferroic materials, to be exact, BiFeO₃ (BFO). Herein, we have investigated the evolution in the structure and morphology of Ho or/and Mn-doped thin films and the related diversification in ferromagnetic behavior. BFO, Bi 0.95 Ho 0.05 FeO₃ (BHFO), BiFe 0.95 Mn 0.05 O₃ (BFMO) and Bi 0.95 Ho 0.05 Fe 0.95 Mn 0.05 O₃ (BHFMO) thin films are synthesized via the conventional sol-gel method. Density, size and phase structure are crucial to optimize the ferromagnetic properties. Specifically, under the applied magnetic field of 10 kOe, BHFO and BFMO thin films can produce obvious magnetic properties during magnetization and, additionally, doping with Ho and Mn (BHFMO) can achieve better magnetic properties. This enhancement is attributed to the lattice distortions caused by the ionic sizes difference between the doping agent and the host, the generation of the new exchange interactions and the inhibition of the antiferromagnetic spiral modulated spin structure.
