Study Design: Biomechanical cadaveric study (level V)., Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of polyethylene bands looped around the supra-adjacent spinous process (SP) or spinal lamina (SL) in providing strength to the cephalad unfused segment and reducing junctional stress., Background: Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is a pathologic kyphotic deformity adjacent to posterior spinal instrumentation after fusion constructs. Recent studies demonstrate a mismatch in stiffness between the instrumented construct and nonfused adjacent levels to be a causative factor in the development of PJK and proximal junction failure. To our knowledge, no biomechanical studies have addressed the effect of different methods of polyethylene band placement at the proximal junction., Materials and Methods: Twelve fresh frozen cadavers were divided into 3 groups of 4: pedicle screw-based instrumentation from T10 to L5 ("control"), T10-L5 instrumentation with a polyethylene band to the T9 "SP," T10-L5 instrumentation with 2 polyethylene bands to the T9 "SL." Specimens were tested with an eccentric (10 mm anterior) load at 5 mm/min for 15 mm or until failure occurred. Failure was defined by the inflection point on the load versus deformation curves. Linear regression was utilized to evaluate the effect of augmentation on the load-to-failure. Significance was set at 0.05., Results: Fractures occurred in all specimens tested. The mean peak load to failure was 2148 N (974-3322) for the SP group, and 1248 N (742-1754) for the control group ( P > 0.05) and 1390 N (1080-2004) for the SL group. No difference existed between the control group and the SP group in terms of fracture level ( P > 0.05). This work describes the dissipative constraint-based load frequency control problem for multi-area power system under load disturbances. Particularly, a new model incorporating time-varying delays and cyber-attacks are widespread in communication networks, significantly impacting control and stability. Consequently, the state-space equations of the addressed model are formulated and analyzed under the impact of false data injection attacks, and time-varying delays. The analysis is simplified by representing cyber-attacks using nonlinear functions adhering to Lipschitz continuity, while possible cyber-attacks are characterized by stochastic parameters conforming to Bernoulli distributions. Followed by the above information, stochastic analysis and Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory, the convex optimization problem is formulated. As a consequence, the load frequency control gains were effectively constructed, confirming that the established power model is stochastically stable and strictly (Q,S,R)-γ-dissipative. Pneumonia, a leading cause of mortality in children under five, is usually diagnosed through chest X-ray (CXR) images due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. However, the shortage of radiologists in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) emphasizes the need for automated pneumonia diagnostic systems. This article presents a Deep Learning model, Zero-Order Optimized Convolutional Neural Network (ZooCNN), a Zero-Order Optimization (Zoo)-based CNN model for classifying CXR images into three classes, Normal Lungs (NL), Bacterial Pneumonia (BP), and Viral Pneumonia (VP); this model utilizes the Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) approach to ensure class balance in the Kaggle CXR Images (Pneumonia) dataset. Conventional CNN models, though promising, face challenges such as overfitting and have high computational costs. The use of ZooPlatform (ZooPT), a hyperparameter finetuning strategy, on a baseline CNN model finetunes the hyperparameters and provides a modified architecture, ZooCNN, with a 72% reduction in weights. The model was trained, tested, and validated on the Kaggle CXR Images (Pneumonia) dataset. The ZooCNN achieved an accuracy of 97.27%, a sensitivity of 97.00%, a specificity of 98.60%, and an F1 score of 97.03%. The results were compared with contemporary models to highlight the efficacy of the ZooCNN in pneumonia classification (PC), offering a potential tool to aid physicians in clinical settings.

A combination of therapeutic modalities in a single nanostructure is crucial for a successful cancer treatment. Synergistic photothermal therapy (PTT) can enhance the effects of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and chemotherapy, which could intensify the therapeutic efficacy to induce cancer cell apoptosis. In this study, Fe and Mn on a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) (Fe/Mn-ZIF-8; FMZ) were synthesized through ion deposition. Furthermore, bismuth sulfide nanorods (Bi 2 S 3 NRs; BS NRs) were synthesized via a hydrothermal process and coated onto FMZ to generate the core-shell structure of the Bi 2 S 3 @FMZ nanoparticles (B@FMZ). Next, methotrexate (MTX) was loaded effectively onto the porous surface of ZIF-8 to form the B@FMZ/MTX nanoparticles. The Fenton-like reaction catalyzes Fe 2+ /Mn 2+ ions by decomposing H 2 O 2 in the tumor microenvironment, resulting in the formation of toxic hydroxyl radicals (·OH), which promotes the CDT effect of killing cancer cells. Furthermore, under 808 nm laser irradiation, these B@FMZ nanoparticles showed a strong PTT effect, owing to the presence of intense BS NRs as a photothermal agent. The B@FMZ nanoparticles exhibited a prominent drug release efficiency of 87.25% at pH 5.5 under near-infrared laser irradiation due to the PTT effect can promote the drug delivery performance. The B@FMZ nanoparticles were subjected to dual-modal imaging, guided magnetic resonance imaging, and X-ray computed tomography imaging. Both in vitro and in vivo results suggested that the B@FMZ/MTX nanoparticles exhibited enhanced antitumor effects through the combined therapeutic effects of PTT, CDT, and chemotherapy. Therefore, these nanoparticles exhibit good biocompatibility and are promising candidates for cancer treatment.

Listeria monocytogenes is a gram-positive bacterium that causes listeriosis in humans. This contaminates the ready-to-eat food products and compromises their safety. Thus, detecting its presence in food samples with high sensitivity and reliability is necessary. Herein, we propose a label-free electrochemical immunosensor based on a mussel-inspired polydopamine-modified zinc molybdate/MXene (PDA@ZnMoO 4 /MXene) composite for effective and rapid detection of L. monocytogenes in food products. Spectrophotometry approaches were employed to examine the resulting composites. Voltammetry and impedimetry techniques were used to confirm the step-by-step assembly of the immunosensor and its sensitive detection of L. monocytogenes in various food products, such as milk and smoked seafood. The results demonstrated the practicality of the constructed immunosensor, with an appreciable linearity of 10-10 7  CFU/ml and a reasonably low detection limit (LOD, 12 CFU/ml). Moreover, the immunosensor exhibited excellent selectivity for microbial cocktails and acceptable repeatability, reproducibility, and storage stability. The incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer (CRC) are alarmingly high, and the scientific community is consistently engaged in developing newer therapeutic options for cancer cure or prevention. The fluoropyrimidine drug, 5-fluorouracil (5FU), remains the first line of treatment against CRC; nevertheless, relapses frequently occur since the cells gain resistance over time through various mechanisms. Studies have highlighted the significance of combinatorial treatment of a Wnt signaling inhibitor and 5FU as a better treatment strategy to overcome 5FU resistance. Small molecules that specifically target and disrupt β-catenin-TCF interaction, a crucial step of the Wnt signaling, are promising in CRC treatment. In this study, we investigated the synergistic cytotoxic activity of menadione with 5FU as the former has previously been shown to downregulate Wnt signaling in CRC cells. Docking and experimental results suggest that the drug combination interfered with key protein-protein interactions in the β-catenin-TCF complex, exerted synergistic anti-cancerous effects in CRC cells, and downregulated the expression of Wnt signaling proteins. Taken together, our data suggest that the simultaneous binding of 5FU and menadione to β-catenin can block Wnt signaling by disrupting β-catenin-TCF interaction and inhibit the proliferation of CRC cells., (© 2024. This work presents a hydrothermal method followed by a sonochemical treatment for synthesizing tantalum decorated on iron selenide (Ta/FeSe 2 ) integrated with nitrogen-doped graphene (NGR) as a susceptible electrode material for detecting trolox (TRX) in berries samples. The surface morphology, structural characterizations, and electrochemical performances of the synthesized Ta/FeSe 2 /NGR composite were analyzed via spectrophotometric and voltammetry techniques. The GCE modified with Ta/FeSe 2 /NGR demonstrated an impressive linear range of 0.1 to 580.3 μM for TRX detection. Additionally, it achieved a remarkable limit of detection (LOD) of 0.059 μM, and it shows a high sensitivity of 2.266 μA μМ -1  cm -2 . Here, we used density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the structures of TRX and TRX quinone and the locations of energy levels and electron transfer sites. The developed sensor exhibits significant selectivity, satisfactory cyclic and storage stability, and notable reproducibility. Self-formation of boron-doped diamond (BDD)-multilayer graphene (MLG) core-shell nanowalls (BDGNWs) via microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition is systematically investigated. Here, the incorporation of nitrogen brings out the origin of MLG shells encapsulating the diamond core, resulting in unique sp 3 /sp 2 hybridized frameworks. The evolution mechanism of the nanowall-like morphology with the BDD-MLG core-shell composition is elucidated through a variety of spectroscopic studies. The photocatalytic performance of these core-shell nanowalls is examined by the deterioration of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB) dyes beneath low-power ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. Starting with 5 ppm dye solutions and employing BDGNWs as the photocatalyst, remarkable degradation efficiencies of 95% for MB within 100 min and 91% for RhB within 220 min are achieved. The effect of varying dye concentrations was also examined. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is driven by carrier photogeneration and mediated by the Schottky junction formed between BDD and MLG, promoting efficient photoinduced charge separation. The stability of the BDGNW photocatalyst is examined, and after five test runs, the photocatalytic behavior for MB and RhB degradation decreases to 87 and 85%, respectively, from initial values of 96 and 91%, demonstrating excellent photostability. These findings underscore the significance of diamond-graphene nanoarchitectures as promising green carbonaceous photocatalysts.

Loss-less data compression becomes the need of the hour for effective data compression and computation in VLSI test vector generation and testing in addition to hardware AI/ML computations. Golomb code is one of the effective technique for lossless data compression and it becomes valid only when the divisor can be expressed as power of two. This work aims to increase compression ratio by further encoding the unary part of the Golomb Rice (GR) code so as to decrease the amount of bits used, it mainly focuses on optimizing the hardware for encoding side. The algorithm was developed and coded in Verilog and simulated using Modelsim. This code was then synthesised in Cadence Encounter RTL Synthesiser. The modifications carried out show around 6% to 19% reduction in bits used for a linearly distributed data set. Worst-case delays have been reduced by 3% to 8%. Area reduction varies from 22% to 36% for different methods. Simulation for Power consumption shows nearly 7% reduction in switching power. This study involved the synthesis of a Ce 2 Sn 2 O 7 /Ag 3 PO 4 /V@g-C 3 N 4 composite through hydrothermal methods, followed by mechanical grinding. The resulting heterojunction exhibited improved catalytic activity under visible light by effectively separating electrons and holes (e - /h + ). The degradation of Tartrazine (TTZ) reached 93.20% within 50 min by employing a ternary composite at a concentration of 10 mg L -1 , along with 6 mg L -1 of PS. The highest pseudo-first-order kinetic constant (0.1273 min -1 and R 2  = 0.951) was observed in this system. The dual Z-scheme heterojunction is developed by Ce 2 Sn 2 O 7 , Ag 3 PO 4 , and V@g-C 3 N 4 , and it may increase the visible light absorption range while also accelerating charge carrier transfer and separation between catalysts. The analysis of the vulnerability positions and degradation pathways of TTZ involved the utilization of density functional theory (DFT) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to examine the intermediate products. The rapid expansion of industrial activities has resulted in severe environmental pollution manifested by organic dyes discharged from the food, textile, and leather industries, as well as hazardous gas emissions from various industrial processes. Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 )-nanostructured materials have emerged as promising candidates for effective photocatalytic dye degradation and gas sensing applications owing to their unique physicochemical properties. This study investigates the development of a photocatalyst and a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sensor using hydrothermally synthesized globosa-like TiO 2 nanostructures (GTNs). The synthesized GTNs are then evaluated to photocatalytically degrade methylene blue dye, resulting in an outstanding photocatalytic activity of 91% degradation within 160 min under UV light irradiation. Furthermore, these nanostructures are utilized to sense liquefied petroleum gas, which attains a superior sensitivity of 7.3% with high response and recovery times and good reproducibility. This facile and cost-effective hydrothermal method of fabricating TiO 2 nanostructures opens a new avenue in photocatalytic dye degradation and gas sensing applications.

This article investigates the asymptotic stabilization of periodic piecewise time-varying systems with time-varying delay under various cyber attacks, particularly deception and acrlong DoS attacks. The addressed system is reformed into a number of time-varying subsystems based on the time interval for each period. Following that, a state-feedback controller with periodic time-varying gain parameters is developed to solve the stabilization problem. The control design depicts the possibility of the aforementioned cyber attacks with two mutually exclusive stochastic Bernoulli distributed parameters. Then, an augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional with periodically varying matrices is used to determine the conditions for designing the proposed controller that ensures the mean-square asymptotic stability of the addressed system. The results of numerical examples support the conclusion that the proposed method is effective and superior, regardless of the cyber attacks involved.

In this study, a novel Ce 2 MgMoO 6 /CNFs (cerium magnesium molybdite double perovskite decorated on carbon nanofibers) nanocomposite was developed for selective and ultra-sensitive detection of ciprofloxacin (CFX). Physical characterization and analytical techniques were used to explore the morphology, structure, and electrocatalytic characteristics of the Ce 2 MgMoO 6 /CNFs nanocomposite. The sensor has a wide linear range (0.005-7.71 μM and 9.75-77.71 μM), a low limit of detection (0.012 μM), high sensitivity (0.807 μA μM -1  cm -2 nM), remarkable repeatability, and an appreciable storage stability. Here, we used density functional theory to investigate CFX and oxidized CFX as well as the locations of the energy levels and electron transfer sites. Furthermore, the Ce 2 MgMoO 6 /CNFs-modified electrode was successfully tested in food samples (milk and honey), indicating an acceptable response with a recovery percentage and relative standard deviation of less than 4%, which is comparable to that of GC-MS. Pesticides pollute natural water reservoirs through persistent accumulation. Therefore, their toxicity and degradability are serious issues. Carbendazim (CBZ) is a pesticide used against fungal infections in agricultural crops, and its overexploitation detrimentally affects aquatic ecosystems and organisms. It is necessary to design a logical, efficient, and field-deployable method for monitoring the amount of CBZ in environmental samples. Herein, a nano-engineered bismuth selenide (Bi 2 Se 3 )/functionalized carbon nanofiber (f-CNF) nanocomposite was utilized as an electrocatalyst to fabricate an electrochemical sensing platform for CBZ. Bi 2 Se 3 /f-CNF exhibited a substantial electroactive surface area, high electrocatalytic activity, and high conductivity owing to the synergistic interaction of Bi 2 Se 3 with f-CNF. The structural chemical compositions and morphology of the Bi 2 Se 3 /f-CNF nanocomposite were confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Electrochemical analysis was carried out using cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The voltammetry and impedance experiments exposed that the Bi 2 Se 3 /f-CNF-modified GCE has attained adequate electrocatalytic function with amended features of electron transportation (R ct  = 35.93 Ω) and improved reaction sites (0.082 cm 2 ) accessible by CBZ moiety along with exemplary electrochemical stability (98.92%). The Bi 2 Se 3 /f-CNF nanocomposite exhibited higher sensitivity of 0.2974 μA μM -1 cm -2 and a remarkably low limit of detection (LOD) of 1.04 nM at a broad linera range 0.001-100 μM. The practicability of the nanocomposite was tested in environmental (tap and pond water) samples, which supports excellent signal amplification with satisfactory recoveries. Water splitting is promising, especially for energy and environmental applications; however, there are limited studies on the link between water splitting and cancer treatment. Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) can be used to convert near-infrared (NIR) light to ultraviolet (UV) or visible (Vis) light and have great potential for biomedical applications because of their profound penetration ability, theranostic approaches, low self-fluorescence background, reduced damage to biological tissue, and low toxicity. UCNPs with photocatalytic materials can enhance the photocatalytic activities that generate a shorter wavelength to increase the tissue penetration depth in the biological microenvironment under NIR light irradiation. Moreover, UCNPs with a photosensitizer can absorb NIR light and convert it into UV/vis light and emit upconverted photons, which excite the photoinitiator to create H 2 , O 2 , and/or OH˙ via water splitting processes when exposed to NIR irradiation. Therefore, combining UCNPs with intensified photocatalytic and photoinitiator materials may be a promising therapeutic approach for cancer treatment. This review provides a novel strategy for explaining the principles and mechanisms of UCNPs and NIR-driven UCNPs with photocatalytic materials through water splitting to achieve therapeutic outcomes for clinical applications. Moreover, the challenges and future perspectives of UCNP-based photocatalytic materials for water splitting for cancer treatment are discussed in this review.

Combining chemodynamic therapy (CDT) with photothermal therapy (PTT) has developed as a promising approach for cancer treatment, as it enhances therapeutic efficiency through redox reactions and external laser induction. In this study, we designed metal organic framework (MOF) -derived Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC through a carbonization process and decorated them with gold nanoparticles (Au@Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC). The resulting nanoparticles were employed as a photothermal agent and Fenton catalyst. The Fenton reaction facilitated the conversation of Cu 2+ to Cu + through reaction with local H 2 O 2, generating reactive hydroxyl radicals (·OH) with potent cytotoxic effects. To enhance the Fenton-like reaction and achieve combined therapy, laser irradiation of the Au@Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC induced efficient photothermal therapy by generating localized heat. With a significantly increased absorption of Au@Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC at 808 nm, the photothermal efficiency was determined to be 57.45 %. Additionally, Au@Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC demonstrated potential as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of cancers. Furthermore, the synergistic combination of PTT and CDT significantly inhibited tumor growth. The disposal of waste generated by the COVID-19 pandemic is still a challenge to the government in most countries. The present study shines its light on the catalytic effect of metal oxide on converting COVID-19 waste i.e. used face masks into valuable products through co-pyrolysis. The co-pyrolysis trial was carried out for a mixture of waste face mask (WFM) and Moringa oleifera (MO) biomass at a constant temperature of 450°C for 15 min of resident time. This investigation focuses on studying the catalytic effect of calcium oxide (CaO) on the by-products of the pyrolysis process. From the FT-IR studies, it is observed that the CaO catalyst assisted to reduce oxygen as well as sulphur and carboxylic acids in the bio-oil due to its strong basic nature. The FE-SEM images suggest the increase in porous structure with catalytic pyrolysis (CP) char compared to non-catalytic pyrolysis (NCP) char. The catalytic activity of CaO increased the alcoholic content with a reduction in aldehydes and ketones in the bio-oil. The addition of WFM to the biomass with CaO catalyst pyrolysis (CP) delivered a higher oil yield of 52% compared to non-catalytic pyrolysis (NCP).

In terms of cancer-related deaths among women, breast cancer (BC) is the most common. Clinically, human epidermal growth receptor 2 (HER2) is one of the most commonly used diagnostic biomarkers for facilitating BC cell proliferation and malignant growth. In this study, a disposable gold electrode (DGE) modified with gold nanoparticle-decorated Ti 3 C 2 T x (Au/MXene) was utilized as a sensing platform to immobilize the capturing antibody (Ab 1 /Au/MXene). Subsequently, nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) with a metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived copper-manganese-cobalt oxide, tagged as NG/CuMnCoO x , was used as a probe to label the detection antibody (Ab 2 ). A sandwich-type immunosensor (NG/CuMnCoO x /Ab 2 /HER2-ECD /Ab 1 /Au/MXene/DGE) was developed to quantify HER2-ECD. NG/CuMnCoO x enhances the conductivity, electrocatalytic active sites, and surface area to immobilize Ab 2 . In addition, Au/MXene facilitates electron transport and captures more Ab 1 on its surface. Under optimal conditions, the resultant immunosensor displayed an excellent linear range of 0.0001 to 50.0 ng. mL -1 . The detection limit was 0.757 pg·mL -1 with excellent selectivity, appreciable reproducibility, and high stability. Traditional cancer treatments are ineffective and cause severe adverse effects. Thus, the development of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has the potential for in situ catalysis of endogenous molecules into highly toxic species, which would then effectively destroy cancer cells. However, the shortage of high-performance nanomaterials hinders the broad clinical application of this approach. In present study, an effective therapeutic platform was developed using a simple hydrothermal method for the in-situ activation of the Fenton reaction within the tumor microenvironment (TME) to generate substantial quantities of •OH and ultimately destroy cancer cells, which could be further synergistically increased by photothermal therapy (PHT) and magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) aided by FeMoO 4 nanorods (NRs). The produced FeMoO 4 NRs were used as MHT/PHT and Fenton catalysts. The photothermal conversion efficiency of the FeMoO 4 NRs was 31.75 %. In vitro and \ experiments demonstrated that the synergistic combination of MHT/PHT/CDT notably improved anticancer efficacy. In this study, gold nanoparticles decorated on nickel-iron layered double hydroxide with black phosphorus nanosheets (AuNP/Ni-Fe LDH/BPNSs) composite were prepared using a stirring method. Analyte tracing is required for developing viable sensors. The AuNP/Ni-Fe LDH/BPNSs composite exhibited a large specific surface area, high conductivity, high electrocatalytic activity, and rapid electron transfer. These properties play a vital role in monitoring diphenylamine (DPA) in food samples. The formation of the AuNP/Ni-Fe LDH/BPNSs composite was confirmed using various structural and morphological characterization techniques. The electroanalytical character of the AuNP/Ni-Fe LDH/BPNSs composite was evaluated using voltammetry. Interestingly, the AuNP/Ni-Fe LDH/BPNSs showed a wide linear range of 0.0125-1003.82 μM and a detection limit of 4.63 nM with a sensitivity of 0.399 µA µM -1 cm -2 . Developing suitable sensors for selective and sensitive detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is crucial for monitoring indoor and outdoor air quality. VOCs are very harmful to our health upon inhalation or contact. Bimodal sensor materials with more than one transduction capability (optical and electrical) offer the ability to extract complementary information from the individual analyte, thus improving detection accuracy and performance. The privilege of manipulating the optoelectronic properties of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-based semiconducting materials offers rapid signal transduction in multimodal sensing applications. A thiophene-functionalized triazacoronene (TTAC) donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) type sensor is reported here for VOC sensing. The single-crystal X-ray structure analysis of the TTAC revealed that a distinctive supramolecular polymer architecture was formed because of cooperative π-π and intermolecular D-A interactions and exhibited rapid signal transduction upon exposure to specific VOCs. The TTAC-embedded green luminescent paper-based test strip exhibited an on-off fluorescence response upon nitrobenzene vapor exposure for 120 s. The selective and rapid response is due to the fast photoinduced electron transfer, as is evident from the time-resolved excited-state dynamics and density functional theory studies. The thick-film-based prototype chemiresistive sensor detects harmful VOCs in a custom-made gas sensing system including benzene, toluene, and nitrobenzene. The TTAC sensor rapidly responds (200 s) at relatively low temperatures (180 ο C) compared to other reported metal-oxide-based sensors.

This article scrutinizes the stabilization and fault reconstruction issues for interval type-2 fuzzy-based cyber-physical systems with actuator faults, deception attacks and external disturbances. The primary objective of this research is to formulate the learning observer system with the interval type-2 fuzzy technique that reconstructs the actuator faults as well as the immeasurable states of the addressed fuzzy based model. Further, the information of reconstructed actuator faults is incorporated in the developed controller with the imperfect premise variables for ensuring the stabilization of the system under consideration. At the same time, the H ∞ technique is employed to reduce the impact of external disturbances in the considered model. In addition to that, the deception attacks are represented as a stochastic variable that satisfies the Bernoulli distributions. On the ground of this, a set of sufficient criteria is deduced in the context of linear matrix inequalities to affirm the stability of the addressed systems. In this study, a polydopamine/titanium carbide adorned with gold nanoparticles (Au@PDA/TiC) composite was prepared by a simple stirring technique and it was used for the dual-technique detection of β-Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). The Au@PDA/TiC-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) oxidized NADH at a very low oxidation potential of approximately 0.60 V vs Ag/AgCl in pH = 7.0 (0.1 M PBS) via the transfer of two electrons and one proton (from NADH to NAD + ). Based on the (i-t) amperometry mode, NADH can be quantified with a linear range of 0.018-674 μM and LOD of 0.0062 µM. In addition to the DPV mode, the electrochemical sensor had a linearity of 5-450 µM with a LOD of 3.17 µM. Repetitive mild traumatic brain injuries (rmTBIs) are serious trauma events responsible for the development of numerous neurodegenerative disorders. A major challenge in developing diagnostics and treatments for the consequences of rmTBI is the fundamental knowledge gaps of the molecular mechanisms responsible for neurodegeneration. It is both critical and urgent to understand the neuropathological and functional consequences of rmTBI to develop effective therapeutic strategies. Using the Closed-Head Impact Model of Engineered Rotational Acceleration, or CHIMERA, we measured neural changes following injury, including brain volume, diffusion tensor imaging, and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging coupled with graph theory and functional connectivity analyses. We determined the effect of rmTBI on markers of gliosis and used NanoString-GeoMx to add a digital-spatial protein profiling analysis of neurodegenerative disease-associated proteins in gray and white matter regions. Our analyses revealed aberrant connectivity changes in the thalamus, independent of microstructural damage or neuroinflammation. We also identified distinct changes in the levels of proteins linked to various neurodegenerative processes including total and phospho-tau species and cell proliferation markers. Together, our data show that rmTBI significantly alters brain functional connectivity and causes distinct protein changes in morphologically intact brain areas.

This paper investigates an observer-based state estimation issue for discrete-time semi-Markovian jump neural networks with Round-Robin protocol and cyber attacks. In order to avoid the network congestion and save the communication resources, the Round-Robin protocol is used to schedule the data transmissions over the networks. Specifically, the cyber attacks are modeled as a set of random variables satisfying the Bernoulli distribution. On the basis of the Lyapunov functional and the discrete Wirtinger-based inequality technique, some sufficient conditions are established to guarantee the dissipativity performance and mean square exponential stability of the argument system. In order to compute the estimator gain parameters, a linear matrix inequality approach is utilized. Contemporary food marketing is ruined by flavor enhancers rather than emphasizing the nutritional value of food. Vanillin is an overexploited flavor enhancer added to food items, thereby necessitating its detection. In this study, an electrochemical sensor was designed using a modified electrode made up of La 2 NiO 4 functionalized carbon nanofiber (f-CNF) to effectively detect vanillin in food samples. To confirm the successful formation of La 2 NiO 4 /f-CNF, structural and morphological studies were performed using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Further electrochemical analysis was performed using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques, which resulted in high sensitivity (0.2899 µA·μM -1 ·cm -2 ) and low limit of detection (LOD) (6 nM). In this work, we address hybrid-driven-based robust synchronization problem for multi-weighted complex dynamical networks with actuator saturation and deception attacks. The hybrid-triggered mechanism, which combines a switch between the event-triggered scheme and the time-triggered scheme, is often used to reduce the data transmission and the alleviate network burden. Further, the equivalent-input-disturbance technique is applied to eliminate the unknown disturbance effect of the addressed system. Moreover, a memory controller is designed under actuator saturation to ensure that the resultant augmented system is asymptotically synchronized even in the presence of deception attacks. The present study aimed to analyze the enhancement of innate immune responses in juvenile-stage common carp ( Cyprinus carpio L.), upon the administration of heat-killed Aeromonas hydrophila at a dosage of 1 × 10 7 CFU ml -1 through bio-encapsulation in the aquatic crustacean, Artemia salina . This work emphasizes the modulation of innate immune response when administered with the bio-encapsulated heat-killed antigen that acts as an inactivated vaccine against Motile Aeromonas Septicemia disease. Bio-encapsulated oral administration of antigens promotes innate immunity in juvenile-stage fishes. The optimization of effective bio-encapsulation of bacterin in Artemia salina nauplii was carried out and the best optimal conditions were chosen for immunization. The functional immune parameters such as myeloperoxidase, lysozyme, alkaline phosphatase, antiprotease and respiratory burst activity in serum, blood and intestinal tissue samples were analyzed along with blood differential leukocyte count and tissue histopathology studies. Both humoral and cellular immune responses analyzed were substantially induced or enhanced in the treatment groups in comparison with the control group. The results showed a significant variation in the bio-encapsulation group than the control group and also were comparable to the protection conferred with immersion route immunization under similar conditions. Thus, most of the innate non-specific immune responses are inducible, despite being constitutive of the fish immune system, to exhibit a basal level of protection and a road to better vaccination strategy in Cyprinus carpio L. aquaculture worldwide.

Herein, we present a one-pot hydrothermal approach for synthesizing metal-organic framework-derived copper (II) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (Cu-BTC) nanowires (NWs) using dopamine as the reducing agent and precursor for a polydopamine (PDA) surface coating formation. In addition, PDA can act as a PTT agent and enhance NIR absorption, producing photothermal effects on cancer cells. These NWs displayed a photothermal conversion efficiency of 13.32% after PDA coating and exhibited good photothermal stability. Moreover, NWs with a suitable T 1 relaxivity coefficient (r 1 = 3.01 mg -1 s -1 ) can be effectively used as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents. By increasing concentrations, cellular uptake studies showed a greater uptake of Cu-BTC@PDA NWs into cancer cells. Further, in vitro studies showed PDA-coated Cu-BTC NWs possess exceptional therapeutic performance by 808 nm laser irradiation, destroying 58% of cancer cells compared with the absence of laser irradiation. This promising performance is anticipated to advance the research and implementation of copper-based NWs as theranostic agents for cancer treatment.

The current study reports the design and construction of enzyme-free sensor using N-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs)-decorated tin sulfide nanosheets (SnS 2 ) for in situ monitoring of H 2 O 2 secreted by human breast cancer cells. N-GQDs nanoparticles having a size of less than 1 nm were incorporated into SnS 2 nanosheets to form an N-GQDs@SnS 2 nanocomposite using a simple hydrothermal approach. The resulting hybrid material was an excellent electrocatalyst for the reduction of H 2 O 2 , owing to the combined properties of highly conductive N-GQDs and SnS 2 nanosheets. The N-GQDs@SnS 2 -based sensing platform demonstrated substantial sensing ability, with a detection range of 0.0125-1128 µM and a limit of detection of 0.009 µM (S/N = 3). The sensing performance of N-GQDs@SnS 2 was highly stable, selective, and reproducible. The practical application of the N-GQDs@SnS 2 sensor was successfully demonstrated by quantifying H 2 O 2 in lens cleaner, human urine, and saliva samples. Finally, the N-GQDs@SnS 2 electrode was successfully applied for the real-time monitoring of H 2 O 2 released from breast cancer cells and mouse fibroblasts. The Covid-19 Corona Virus, also known as SARS-CoV-2, has wreaked havoc around the world, and the condition is only getting worse. It is a pandemic disease spreading from person-to-person every day. Therefore, it is important to keep track the number of patients being affected. The current system gives the computerized data in a collective way which is very difficult to analyze and predict the growth of disease in a particular area and in the world. Machine learning algorithms can be used to successfully map the disease and its progression to solve this problem. Machine Learning, a branch of computer science, is critical in correctly distinguishing patients with the condition by analyzing their chest X-ray photographs. Supervised Machine learning models with associated algorithms (like LR, SVR and Time series algorithms) to analyze data for regression and classification helps in training the model to predict the number of total number of global confirmed cases who will be prone to the disease in the upcoming days. In this proposed work, the overall dataset of the world is being collected, preprocessed and the number of confirmed cases up to a particular date are extracted which is given as the training set to the model. The model is being trained by supervised machine learning algorithms to predict the growth of cases in the upcoming days. Excessive use of nitrofurantoin (NFT) and its residues can be harmful to the ecosystem, and to mitigate this, rapid and cost-effective detection of NFT in water bodies is needed. In this regard, we prepared a three-dimensional (3D) copper-zeolitic imidazole framework (Cu/ZIF-8)-derived bimetallic Cu 5 Zn 8 alloy-embedded hollow porous carbon nanocubes (Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC) for electrochemical detection of NFT. The resultant material is characterized using suitable spectrophotometry and voltammetry methods. Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC is an effective electrocatalyst with high electrical conductivity and a fast electron transfer rate. It also has more catalytic active sites for improved electrochemical reduction of NFT. Fabricated Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC-modified screen-printed electrode (SPE) for NFT reduction have a wide linear range with a low detection limit, and high sensitivity (15.343 μA μМ -1 cm -2 ), appreciable anti-interference ability with related nitro compounds, storage stability, reproducibility, and repeatability. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the world in 2020. Every country adopted quarantine measures to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus infection. These measures resulted in dramatic changes in the daily lives of most people. In the academic world, students faced a shift from the traditional classroom-based teaching to virtual distance learning platforms. This shift in nursing education posed challenges both to the instructors and students as they were not fully prepared for this transition., Objective: The study assessed the nursing students' satisfaction with the virtual learning experience during the COVID-19 pandemic in selected nursing colleges in India., Methods: The study was conducted in four nursing colleges in India. A total of 1,166 Diploma, Post Basic BSc (N), BSN, and MSN nursing students participated in the study. Ethical approval was obtained from all the nursing colleges included in the study. The Google Forms satisfaction survey included student, teacher, course, technology, environmental, and practical dimensions., Results: The response rate was 86.31% (n = 1,166). The overall satisfaction with virtual theory and practical classes has a mean and SD score of 67.14 + 11 and 16.21 + 3.46, respectively. The results showed that overall 51% of the students had good satisfaction with virtual theory classes while 48% had moderate satisfaction. In terms of overall satisfaction with virtual practical classes, approximately 39% had good satisfaction, 58% had moderate satisfaction and nearly 3% had poor satisfaction. In addition, the students expressed that they had good satisfaction with Teacher dimension (64.3%), Student dimension (63%), and Course dimension (57.2%). On the contrary, they expressed poor satisfaction in the Technical dimension (11.3%) and Environmental dimension (5.6%). The results showed that the courses, the place of attending class, and health issues were significantly associated with the student's level of satisfaction with virtual learning., Conclusion: Although the majority of the students rated their satisfaction level as being "good" in virtual theory classes and "moderate" in virtual practical learning, most of them were dissatisfied with the Technical and Environmental dimensions of virtual learning. The focus of current research is to address the problem of robust output tracking, input delay compensation and disturbance attenuation performance for a family of stochastic systems by implementing the improved-equivalent-input-disturbance (IEID) estimator and the extended Smith predictor (ESP) technique. By integrating the observer and IEID-estimator together with ESP, a new closed-loop configuration is presented. Then, Lyapunov based mean-square asymptotic stability criterion is obtained. According to attained stability criterion, an IEID and ESP based-controller is designed, which ultimately guarantees the exact output tracking. Simulation studies of numerical examples are offered to expose the authenticity of IEID and ESP-based controller. Rapid, accurate, and sensitive insulin detection is crucial for managing and treating diabetes. A simple sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor is engineered using gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-adhered metal-organic framework-derived copper-zinc hollow porous carbon nanocubes (Au@Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC) and AuNP-deposited nitrogen-doped holey graphene (NHG) are used as a dual functional label and sensing platform. The results show that identical morphology and size of Au@Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC enhance the electrocatalytic active sites, conductivity, and surface area to immobilize the detection antibodies (Ab 2 ). In addition, AuNP/NHG has the requisite biocompatibility and electrical conductivity, which facilitates electron transport and increases the surface area of the capture antibody (Ab 1 ). Significantly, Cu 5 Zn 8 /HPCNC exhibits necessary catalytic activity and sensitivity for the electrochemical reduction of H 2 O 2 using (i-t) amperometry and improves the electrochemical response in differential pulse voltammetry. Under optimal conditions, the immunosensor for insulin demonstrates a wide linear range with a low detection limit and viable specificity, stability, and reproducibility. The platform's practicality is evaluated by detecting insulin in human serum samples. Detecting pesticides using techniques that involve simple fabrication methods and conducting the detection at very low levels are challenging. Herein, we report the detection of acetamiprid at the quadrillionth level using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The SERS chip comprises Ag nanoparticles deposited on a tetrapod structure of ZnO coated onto indium tin oxide glass (denoted as Ag@ZnO-ITO). Controlled Ag decoration of ZnO occurs via irradiation-induced synthesis. The morphology of the surface plays a significant role in achieving an enhanced SERS performance for acetamiprid detection. 4,4'-Dipyridyl (DPY) is used to investigate synthesis conditions for the chip, leading to an optimal irradiation time of 60 min. Furthermore, the enhancement factor for acetamiprid on Ag@ZnO-ITO is higher than 10 7 . These results demonstrate that SERS sensors have the potential for practical use in acetamiprid detection.

Insulin, which is a hormone produced by the β-cells of the pancreas, regulates the glucose levels in the blood and can transport glucose into cells to produce glycogen or triglycerides. Insulin deficiency can lead to hyperglycemia and diabetes. Therefore, insulin detection is critical in clinical diagnosis. In this study, disposable Au electrodes were modified with copper(II) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (Cu-BTC)/leaf-like zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-L) for insulin detection. The aptamers are easily immobilized on the Cu-BTC/ZIF-L composite by physical adsorption and facilitated the specific interaction between aptamers and insulin. The Cu-BTC/ZIF-L composite-based aptasensor presented a wide linear insulin detection range (0.1 pM to 5 μM) and a low limit of detection of 0.027 pM. In addition, the aptasensor displayed high specificity, good reproducibility and stability, and favorable practicability in human serum samples. For the in vivo tests, Cu-BTC/ZIF-L composite-modified electrodes were implanted in non-diabetic and diabetic mice, and insulin was quantified using electrochemical and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods.

Objective In this study, we aimed to assess the response and toxicity related to dose escalation in external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) using intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with weekly concurrent cisplatin followed by de-escalated brachytherapy (BT) in locally advanced carcinoma cervix of International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2018 stage IIB-IIIC1. Materials and methods Fifty-two patients diagnosed with cervical cancer FIGO 2018 stage IIB-IIIC1 were treated with curative intent from November 2019 to October 2021. The dose of 50 Gy was prescribed for the primary tumor volume and elective pelvic nodal volume followed by a primary boost to a dose of 20 Gy. Gross lymph node (LN) of size >1 cm after EBRT completion received a sequential nodal boost of 10 Gy. All patients received concurrent cisplatin to a dose of 40 mg/m 2 for a total of five to six weekly cycles. All patients received two fractions of BT to a dose of 6 Gy after EBRT completion. Radiation-induced acute toxicities were graded according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) criteria and hematologic toxicity was graded according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE v4.0). Results A median follow-up of six months was available for the 40 eligible patients. All patients tolerated treatment with an acceptable toxicity profile. Grade III dermatitis, grade III gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity, and grade III genitourinary (GU) toxicity were seen in three (7.5%), six (17.5%), and three patients (7.5%) respectively. Grade I anemia was evident in all patients. At six months after EBRT completion, 37 patients (92.5%) had a complete response and only three patients (7.5%) had residual disease. Conclusion Based on our findings, patients with cervical cancer treated with dose-escalated IMRT have a satisfactory outcome with reasonably low levels of treatment-related acute GI and GU toxicities. This paper investigates the issue of fault-tolerant and anti-disturbance attenuation for a two-dimensional modified repetitive control system (2D MRCS) which is described by switched fuzzy systems with multiple disturbances. In particular, the multiple disturbances contain an exogenous disturbance and standard Wiener noise. Specifically, a generalized extended state observer (GESO) is incorporated with the 2D MRCS to estimate both fault and exogenous multiple disturbances so that the disturbances and faults can be attenuated in the control input. Further, the improved 2D MRCS relaxes the stability condition and provides an enhanced tracking performance. Based on the Lyapunov function approach, pole placement technique and average dwell time approach, the stability criteria for the considered system is developed in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Then an algorithm for designing a GESO-based 2D MRC design is developed based on the obtained LMIs. Background: All types of movements involve the role of articular cartilage and bones. The presence of cartilage enables bones to move over one another smoothly. However, repetitive microtrauma and ischemia as well as genetic effects can cause an osteochondral lesion. Numerous treatment methods such as microfracture surgergy, autograft, and allograft, have been used, however, it possesses treatment challenges including prolonged recovery time after surgery and poses a financial burden on patients. Nowadays, various tissue engineering approaches have been developed to repair bone and osteochondral defects using biomaterial implants to induce the regeneration of stem cells.  METHODS: In this study, a collagen (Col)/γ-polyglutamate acid (PGA)/hydroxyapatite (HA) composite scaffold was fabricated using a 3D printing technique. A Col/γ-PGA/HA 2D membrane was also fabricated for comparison. The scaffolds (four layers) were designed with the size of 8 mm in diameter and 1.2 mm in thickness. The first layer was HA/γ-PGA and the second to fourth layers were Col/γ-PGA. In addition, a 2D membrane was constructed from hydroxyapatite/γ-PGA and collagen/γ-PGA with a ratio of 1:3. The biocompatibility property and degradation activity were investigated for both scaffold and membrane samples. Rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs) and human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) were cultured on the samples and were tested in-vitro to evaluate cell attachment, proliferation, and differentiation. In-vivo experiments were performed in the rat and nude mice models., Results: In-vitro and in-vivo results show that the developed scaffold is of well biodegradation and biocompatible properties, and the Col-HA scaffold enhances the mechanical properties for osteochondrogenesis in both in-vitro and animal trials., Conclusions: The composite would be a great biomaterial application for bone and osteochondral regeneration., (© 2022. The impact of oral microbial dysbiosis on Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains controversial. Building off recent studies reporting that various microbes might directly seed or promote amyloid β (Aβ) deposition, we evaluated the effects of periodontal bacteria ( Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola) and supragingival commensal ( Streptococcus gordonii ) oral bacterial infection in the APP-transgenic CRND8 (Tg) mice model of AD. We tracked bacterial colonization and dissemination, and monitored effects on gliosis and amyloid deposition. Chronic oral infection did not accelerate Aβ deposition in Tg mice but did induce alveolar bone resorption, IgG immune response, and an intracerebral astrogliosis (GFAP: glial fibrillary acidic protein). In contrast, intracerebral inoculation of live but not heat-killed P. gingivalis increased Aβ deposition and Iba-1 (ionized calcium-binding adaptor-1) microgliosis after 8 weeks of bacterial infection but not at 4 days. These data show that there may be differential effects of infectious microbes on glial activation and amyloid deposition depending on the species and route of inoculation, and thereby provide an important framework for future studies. Indeed, these studies demonstrate marked effects on amyloid β deposition only in a fairly non-physiologic setting where live bacteria is injected directly into the brain.

Toxic substances, such as heavy metals, toxins, pesticides, pathogens, and veterinary drug residues in food are hazardous to consumer health. The variety and quantity of food consumption have increased owing to developments in the agricultural and food industries. Food safety has a substantial socioeconomic impact, and an increasing number of consumers have become aware of its importance. Therefore, simple and cost-effective analytical methods are required to quantify the safety of preservatives. Herein, we report an electrochemical method using double-shelled carbon-confined Ni/NiO (C@Ni/NiO) hollow microspheres to detect diphenylamine (DPA). The microspheres were synthesized by a self-templating hydrothermal method followed by calcination. The hydrothermal temperature and precursor ratio were optimized systematically to prepare double-shelled C@Ni/NiO hollow microspheres. The excellent electrocatalytic activity and electron transport properties of a C@Ni/NiO-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) were exploited in the electrochemical oxidation of DPA. Interestingly, the engineered C@Ni/NiO/GCE has a wide dynamic linear range (0.02-473 μM) and a DPA detection limit of 0.007 μM. In addition, the DPA sensor exhibited good selectivity, reproducibility, repeatability, and stability. Prolactin (PRL) is produced by the pituitary gland and plays a vital role in the production of milk after a baby is born. PRL levels are normally elevated in pregnant and nursing women, and high levels of PRL in the human body cause hyperprolactinemia, infertility, galactorrhea, infrequent or irregular periods, amenorrhea, breast pain, and loss of libido. Accordingly, herein, a novel label-free immunosensor using a bismuth sulfide/polypyrrole (Bi 2 S 3 /PPy)-modified screen-printed electrode (SPE) for the fast and facile detection of the peptide hormone PRL. Bi 2 S 3 nanorods were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal technique, and PPy was prepared by chemical polymerization method. Subsequently, the Bi 2 S 3 /PPy/ SPE was modified with 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) and EDC/NHS. Owing to the cross-linking effect of EDC/NHS, antibody-PRL (anti-PRL) was firmly stabilized on the modified SPE surface. These layer-by-layer modifications enhanced the conducting properties, anti-PRL loading capacity, and sensitivity of the developed immunosensor. Under optimized conditions, the PRL immunosensor demonstrated a broad linear range of approximately 1-250 ng/mL, a low detection limit of approximately 0.130 ng/mL (3 × SD/b), good specificity, reproducibility, and stability. Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), an endogenous gasotransmitter, is produced in mammalian systems and is closely associated with pathological and physiological functions. Nevertheless, the complete conversion of H 2 S is still unpredictable owing to the limited number of sensors for accurate and quantitative detection of H 2 S in biological samples. In this study, we constructed a disposable electrochemical sensor based on PtNi alloy nanoparticles (PtNi NPs) for sensitive and specific in situ monitoring of H 2 S released by human breast cancer cells. PtNi alloy NPs with an average size of 5.6 nm were prepared by a simple hydrothermal approach. The conversion of different forms of sulfides (e.g., H 2 S, HS - , and S 2- ) under various physiological conditions hindered the direct detection of H 2 S in live cells. PtNi NPs catalyze the electrochemical oxidation of H 2 S in a neutral phosphate buffer (PB, pH 7.0). The PtNi-based sensing platform demonstrated a linear detection range of 0.013-1031 µM and the limit of detection was 0.004 µM (S/N = 3). Moreover, the PtNi sensor exhibited a sensitivity of 0.323 μA μM -1 cm -2 . In addition, the stability, repeatability, reproducibility, and anti-interference ability of the PtNi sensor exhibited satisfactory results. The PtNi sensor was able to successfully quantify H 2 S in pond water, urine, and saliva samples. Finally, the biocompatible PtNi electrode was effectively employed for the real-time quantification of H 2 S released from breast cancer cells and mouse fibroblasts.

In recent years, lignocellulosic biomass has emerged as one of the most versatile energy sources among the research community for the production of biofuels and value-added chemicals. However, biomass pretreatment plays an important role in reducing the recalcitrant properties of lignocellulose, leading to superior quality of target products in bioenergy production. Among existing pretreatment techniques, liquid hot water (LHW) pretreatment has several outstanding advantages compared to others including minimum formation of monomeric sugars, significant removal of hemicellulose, and positive environmental impacts; however, several constraints of LHW pretreatment should be clarified. This contribution aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of reaction mechanism, reactor characteristics, influencing factors, techno-economic aspects, challenges, and prospects for LHW-based biomass pretreatment. Generally, LHW pretreatment could be widely employed in bioenergy processing from biomass, but circular economy-based advanced pretreatment techniques should be further studied in the future to achieve maximum efficiency, and minimum cost and drawbacks., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. This paper investigates the robust synchronization problem for a class of master-slave neural networks (MSNNs) subject to network-induced delays, unknown time-varying uncertainty, and exogenous disturbances. An equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) estimation technique is applied to compensate for the effects of unknown uncertainty and disturbances in the system output. In addition, to reduce the burden of the communication channel in the addressed MSNNs and improve the utilization of bandwidth an event-triggered control protocol is developed to obtain the synchronization of MSNNs. In particular, event-triggering conditions are verified periodically at every sampling instant in both sensors and actuators to avoid the Zeno behavior in the networks. By designing an appropriate low-pass filter in the EID estimator block, the accuracy of disturbance estimation performance is improved. Moreover, by concatenating the synchronization error, observer, and filter states as a single state vector, an augmented system is formulated. Then the tangible delay-dependent stability condition for that augmented system is established by employing the Lyapunov stability theory and reciprocally convex approach. Based on the feasible solutions of the derived stability conditions, the event-triggering parameters, controller, and observer gains are co-designed. Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) is associated with many types of cancers, including oral, colorectal, and brain cancers. This paper describes the fabrication of an MMP-1 immunosensor based on a gold nanoparticle/polyethyleneimine/reduced graphene oxide (AuNP/PEI/rGO)-modified disposable screen-printed electrode (SPE). A microwave-assisted single-step method was employed for the simultaneous reduction of gold and graphene oxide in a PEI environment to avoid AuNP agglomeration. The crystal structure, chemical composition, optical properties, and interior morphology of the materials were probed by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, UV-visible spectrometry, and transmission electron microscopy techniques. To assemble a label-free MMP-1 immunosensor layer-by-layer, 3-mercaptopropionic acid was utilized due to its strong sulfur-gold bonding ability, and its tail end was attached to a carboxyl group, allowing the MMP-1 antibody (anti-MMP-1) to be subsequently cross-linked using the traditional N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) and N' ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride method. Differential pulse voltammetry analysis showed a linear relationship with MMP-1 concentration in the range of 1-50 ng ml-1 with an R2 value of ∼0.996 (n = 5, RSD < 5%). This immunosensor was successfully applied for MMP-1 detection in urine, saliva, bovine serum, and cell culture media (HSC-3 & C6) of oral and brain cancers showing results comparable to those of the credible ELISA method.

The functions of membrane proteins (MPs) are attributed to their structure and stability. Factors influencing the stability of MPs differ from globular proteins due to the presence of membrane spanning regions. Thermodynamic data of MPs aid to understand the relationship among their structure, stability and function. Although a wealth of experimental data on thermodynamics of MPs are reported in the literature, there is no database available explicitly for MPs. In this work, we have developed a database for MP thermodynamics, MPTherm, which contains more than 7000 thermodynamic data from about 320 MPs. Each entry contains protein sequence and structural information, membrane topology, experimental conditions, thermodynamic parameters such as melting temperature, free energy, enthalpy etc. and literature information. MPTherm assists users to retrieve the data by using different search and display options. We have also provided the sequence and structure visualization as well as cross-links to UniProt and PDB databases. MPTherm database is freely available at http://www.iitm.ac.in/bioinfo/mptherm/. It is implemented in HTML, PHP, MySQL and JavaScript, and supports the latest versions of major browsers, such as Firefox, Chrome and Opera.
