Abstract

The preparation and characterization of a new family of dicopper(I) complexes containing Schiff-base ligands containing two tridentate binding sites linked by a xylyl spacer revealed the complexes to react very rapidly with [O.sub.2] to generate metastable [[[Cu.sup.III.sub.2][([mu]-O).sub.2](L)].sup.2} species.

Abstract

The iron complexes have catalyzed the oxidation of olefins by [H.sub.2][O.sub.2] to form epoxides and cis-diols. The studies have shown that epoxidation is mediated by [[(TPA)[Fe.sup.V](OOCC[H.sub.3])].sup.2+] (TPA = tris-(2-pyridylmethyl)amine) that is promoted by the protonation of the terminal oxygen atom of the hyperperoxide by the coordinated carboxylic acid.

Abstract

Dinuclear copper complexes containing hexaazacyclophane macrocyclic ligands react with the disodium salt of terephthalic acid resulting in the self-assembly of rectangular molecules with the general formula [(Cu2L)2(p-(O2-CC6H4CO2)2]X4, where X=CF3SO3 and ClO4. X-ray diffraction confirms their structure and ESI-MS analyses of solutions of the complexes exhibit cluster ions, which demonstrate that the cages are retained in solution.
