Abstract

The synthesis of a cationic Lewis acidic borane that forms a highly stable zwitterionic ammonium/fluoroborate complex possessing a C-H...F-B hydrogen bond, is described. The results have indicated that cationic boranes might be well suited as molecular recognition units for fluoride in water under biphasic conditions.

Abstract

The synthesis of 1-(dimesitylboryl)-8-(10'-bora-9'-oxaanthryl)naphthalene, a novel diborane is reported. The results of the synthesis demonstrate the suitability of the Li ([THF.sub.4]) salt of the synthesized compound as a starting material for the synthesis of asymmetrically substituted 1,8-diborylnaphthalenes.
