E-learning has become an emerging approach to delivering knowledge and information to students. It presents significant challenges to sharing and understanding learners' knowledge, inquiries, interest, and needs. Educational organizations are expected to apply the appropriate practice to address knowledge-sharing challenges in the e-learning environment. In this study, through a systematic literature review, we intend to identify and synthesize knowledge-sharing challenges and practices as well as classify the most discussed challenges and practices in various contextual settings. The findings classify the knowledge-sharing challenges and practices in e-learning from four perspectives: organization, individual, knowledge and technology. This study aims to build a knowledge base to support future research and effective knowledge-sharing practices in the e-learning environment.

Parent-child conversations are impacted by environmental setting. Yet, few studies have considered where mothers and early adolescent youth prefer to have conversations about daily stressors. This study examines where mothers and youth prefer to have conversations about daily stressors, differences in preference based on demographic variables, and why certain environmental settings are preferred. One hundred youth (M = 11.04, 53% boys) and their mothers participated in semi-structured interviews. Findings showed that youth preferred to communicate in their bedroom, the kitchen, and the living room, whereas mothers preferred the kitchen, their child's bedroom, and the car. Using thematic analysis, we found that participants preferred communicating in physically and psychologically comfortable environments, private locations that were away from others, and that they relied on bedtime and mealtime routines to engage in regular conversations. Findings suggest that the place mothers and youth converse matters and may meaningfully impact parent-child conversations about daily stressors.

Learning in a virtual environment has been found to foster students' affective responses, indicating the importance of exploring the factors which affect students' learning when engaged in a virtual game. This study aimed to explore the relationships among students' epistemic curiosity, situational interest, and learning engagement in an exploratory 3D virtual game environment. A virtual game was designed for elementary school students to learn concepts of evaporation and condensation in real-life situations. Data were collected using questionnaires from a total of 121 sixth-grade elementary school students, and were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The reliability and validity of the instruments employed in this study were verified. The structural relationships showed that I-type epistemic curiosity showed a stronger influence on the design of the virtual game environment compared to D-type epistemic curiosity. Challenge was found to be negatively predicted by I-type epistemic curiosity, but positively predicted by D-type epistemic curiosity. Instant enjoyment was also found to play a significant mediating role between I-type epistemic curiosity and emotional engagement. It is suggested that future research should consider providing students with interesting contexts and challenging tasks as a critical approach to designing virtual game learning environments.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the possibilities and opportunities for ASEAN and Korea student exchange programs in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era, by focusing on the needs of non-participating ASEAN students. To do so, this study conducted an online survey to analyze ASEAN students' understanding, views, expectations, and reasons for not participating in student exchange programs to Korea, while investigating their considerations and preferences for future participation. The findings revealed significant differences between ASEAN students in terms of nationality (especially Vietnamese students), academic field, and gender. They also highlighted the rising role and importance of hybrid and online modes of student mobility, that grew in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, there is a need for universities, government policy makers and educational scholars to reflect the emerging new needs of students concerning ASEAN-Korea exchange programs in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.

Researchers have indicated the importance of engaging learners in self-regulated learning (SRL) states when situated in game-based learning contexts; however, it remains a challenge for both educational and educational technology researchers to effectively integrate both. To this end, this study investigated how SRL strategies are interwoven with game-based learning in higher education by searching the web of science database to systematically review the papers published between 2009 and 2020 in academic journals. The encoded dimensions ranged from the primary research purpose to research issues, including application domains, research methods, duration of the studies, SRL strategies, game types, and game genres. It was found that since 2015, the research purposes have become increasingly diverse, with skills acquisition in game-based learning being regarded as the most important goal, followed by knowledge acquisition and behavior change. Such games took goal orientation, peer learning, and regulating as the main SRL strategies, which exerted a positive effect on learning performance, self-efficacy/confidence, attitudes/effort, satisfaction/interest, and learning behavior. Meanwhile, these SRL strategies were well embedded into problem-solving, simulation, multi-type, and RPG game types against the setting of the real-life-related storyline as the main game genre. Since previous studies lacked the systematic application of all SRL strategies within a game-based learning environment, they could not uncover the dynamic and cyclic processes of SRL in game-based learning environments. Hence, this study proposed corresponding suggestions for future research issues as a reference for researchers, teachers, and decision-makers.

Traditional IRT and IRTree models are not appropriate for analyzing the item that simultaneously consists of multiple-choice (MC) task and constructed-response (CR) task in one item. To address this issue, this study proposed an item response tree model (called as IRTree-MR) to accommodate items that contain different response types at different steps and multiple different cognitive processes behind each score to effectively investigate the cognitive process and achieve a more accurate evaluation of examinees. The proposed model employs appropriate processing function for each task and allows multiple paths to an observed outcome. The simulation studies were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed IRTree-MR, and results show the proposed model outperforms the traditional IRT model in terms of parameters recovery and model-fit. Moreover, an empirical study was carried out to verify the advantages of the proposed model.

The role of students' well-being in their academic development and growth has been reported in the literature. Nonetheless, most of the previous studies have revolved around the predictive role of interpersonal factors in students' well-being, and the influence of personal factors is overlooked. To bridge this gap, this study probed the role of two personal attributes, namely mindfulness and grit, in English students' well-being. To accomplish this, three valid questionnaires were sent to 623 Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) students chosen from different language institutes in China. Following that, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) were implemented to analyse the potential associations between mindfulness, grit, and well-being, as well as the role of mindfulness and grit in Chinese students' well-being. The results demonstrated that Chinese students' well-being was tightly associated with their mindfulness and grit. Students' grit and mindfulness could uniquely predict 59% and 64% of students' well-being changes, respectively. The complexity and dynamic nature of positive emotions and personal attributes may also be reasons for the obtained predicting role. It is asserted that L2 practitioners should strike a balance between personality-related factors and psychological ones to facilitate their students' well-being.

In this paper, we identify the main challenges faced by international graduate students seeking employment in the Canadian labor market after completing Canadian Master of Education programs. We approach this issue from our combined perspectives: a professor of higher education and a recent international graduate with a Master of Education program. Drawing on the theoretical framework Responsibility of the University in Employability (RUE) (López- Miguens et al., 2021), we argue that universities play a significant role in preparing international students for successful integration into the Canadian workforce. After conducting a thematic analysis of the relevant literature, we identify the five most common key challenges faced by international students: racialized complexities of a credential regime, problems of deskilling and devaluation of immigrants, the triple glass effect, foreign accent bias, and a lack of soft skills according to the Canadian norm. In response to these thematic findings, we offer two key recommendations for Canadian universities: helping international students build networks and employment contacts and helping international students take part in work-integrated learning and vocational programs that ease their transition into employment after graduating from a Canadian Master of Education program.

This article discusses how a new APRS service-learning model was implemented in a new service-learning project in the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) orthopedics curriculums at three Hong Kong institutions. The APRS model adopting flipped learning approach consists of four cyclic stages, including Application, Practice, Reflection and Self-regulated learning. Qualitative and quantitative findings in this study reveal that TCM students gained confidence in applying discipline knowledge/skills and improved in various areas, including cross-cultural competence, communication, problem-solving and collaboration. Drawing evidence from this study, possible factors contributing to positive impacts on student learning in the APRS model are the "strong connectivity" (including clear alignment with programme, profession, institutional missions and traditional Chinese philosophy "xiushen"), "reinforced motivation" (student autonomy and buy in) and "structured organisation" (strong network among participating parties and use of a centralised electronic platform). The APRS service-learning model is a culture-based approach helping students reconnect Confucian "xiushen" to the discipline knowledge and the real-life application in the Hong Kong context. This model may also be applicable to other Asian contexts where the Confucian culture prevails.

This study explores the practical application of online applications in innovating the organization of teaching activities within public schools in Hue City, Vietnam. The research investigates the nuanced dynamics of execution and efficiency in using online applications across various teaching categories. The study employs a systematic approach to participant selection using stratified sampling based on geographical criteria to ensure representation from both the northern and southern regions of the city. A total of 192 teacher survey questionnaires were distributed focusing on the execution and efficiency of online applications in categories such as warm-up activities, knowledge building, review and consolidation, practice activities and testing and assessment. The commitment to data quality is demonstrated by the high response rate with 187 valid questionnaires collected (97.3% of the expected sample). Statistical analyses including mean scores, standard deviations and correlation coefficients were employed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the current state of online application integration in teaching activities. The findings reveal varying levels of execution and efficiency across different teaching categories emphasizing the need for targeted improvement strategies. Strong positive correlations were observed in specific categories such as practice activities highlighting a consistent association between effective execution and efficiency. The study contributes valuable insights to the discourse on technology integration in education, offering recommendations for teachers, administrators and policymakers seeking to optimize the impact of online applications on teaching practices in the Vietnamese educational context.

Network meta-analysis (NMA) incorporates all available evidence into a general statistical framework for comparing multiple treatments. Standard NMAs make three major assumptions, namely homogeneity, similarity, and consistency, and violating these assumptions threatens an NMA's validity. In this article, we suggest a graphical approach to assessing these assumptions and distinguishing between qualitative and quantitative versions of these assumptions. In our plot, the absolute effect of each treatment arm is plotted against the level of effect modifiers, and the three assumptions of NMA can then be visually evaluated. We use four hypothetical scenarios to show how violating these assumptions can lead to different consequences and difficulties in interpreting an NMA. We present an example of an NMA evaluating steroid use to treat septic shock patients to demonstrate how to use our graphical approach to assess an NMA's assumptions and how this approach can help with interpreting the results. We also show that all three assumptions of NMA can be summarized as an exchangeability assumption. Finally, we discuss how reporting of NMAs can be improved to increase transparency of the analysis and interpretability of the results.

The process of creative problem-solving (CPS) commonly demands that individuals consciously or unconsciously integrate creative ideas from a vast array of diverse information. Using a masked priming paradigm and the Chinese remote associates test (RAT), this study provides innovative behavioral evidence for the integration of multiple unconscious stimuli during CPS. In Experiment 1, three masked Chinese characters were simultaneously presented in the RAT, the first and third characters could be combined to form an answer. Two Chinese two-character words were presented in parallel, each containing the answer in Experiment 2, and required the complete word information to be split and subsequently re-integrated in a more complex manner than in Experiment 1. Interestingly, in both the experiments, multiple unconsciously processed stimuli generated a priming effect on creative performance. Specifically, a positive priming effect was observed in response to the difficult RATs, whereas a negative priming effect was observed in response to the easy RATs. Overall, our study verified that semantic integration between different unconsciously perceived stimuli can occur, which provides insights into the mechanisms underlying unconscious priming effects and contributes to a better understanding of how creative cognitive processing is influenced by multiple types of unconscious information.

Response times (RTs) facilitate the quantification of underlying cognitive processes in problem-solving behavior. To provide more comprehensive diagnostic feedback on strategy selection and attribute profiles with multistrategy cognitive diagnosis model (CDM) and utilize additional information for item RTs, this study develops a multistrategy cognitive diagnosis modeling framework combined with RTs. The proposed model integrates individual response accuracy and RT into a unified framework to define strategy selection and make it closer to the individual's strategy selection process. Simulation studies demonstrated that the proposed model had reasonable parameter recovery and attribute classification accuracy and outperformed the existing multistrategy CDMs and single-strategy CDMs in terms of performance. Empirical results further illustrated the practical application and the advantages of the proposed model.

It is difficult for students to learn the concepts of chemical laboratory safety education from actual experiences because the traditional teaching model prohibits students from performing dangerous operations. Therefore, this study develops a novel mixed reality-based chemistry experiment learning system (MRCELS) to allow learners to conduct inquiry-based experimental operations in an environment integrating virtual and physical space by using a free and safe way so that chemical laboratory safety problems that usually occur in actual chemical laboratories that may hurt learners can be avoided. A total of 36 Grade 11 students from a girl's high school in Taipei City, Taiwan, were recruited to participate in the experiment. A total of 17 students were randomly assigned to the experimental group using the MRCELS to conduct chemical laboratory safety education, while the remaining 19 students were randomly assigned to the control group taught by a teacher in a physical-chemical laboratory. The research results show that the learning effectiveness of experimental group learners in chemical laboratory safety education is significantly superior to that of the control group. Besides, experimental and control groups significantly improved their attitudes toward laboratory safety after the instruction experiment, but no significant differences existed between them. Both groups of learners showed high satisfaction with the learning model they used, but no significant differences existed between them. Encouragingly, according to the interview results, learners preferred to adopt the MRCELS to support learning. They stated that the immersion experience in operating the chemical experiments through the MRCELS could enhance their awareness of hazardous operations and the development of laboratory safety concepts. The developed MRCELS contributes an effective and innovative learning model to chemical laboratory safety education.

Writing is a challenging task for students in language learning. A key question in this challenge is how to exploit the potential of information technology and design effective learning strategies to promote quality writing. This is a question that Chinese teachers need to actively consider in the process of optimizing their writing instruction. Therefore, this study embedded problem-based scaffolds in an SVVR system and proposed a second-order progressive problem-based scaffold (SPPS-SVVR) strategy to enhance students' writing skills. To examine the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, a quasi-experiment was conducted in an elementary school in China. The experimental group (39 students) used the SPPS-SVVR writing strategy, while the control group (39 students) used the traditional SVVR writing strategy (T-SVVR). The study results showed that the SPPS-SVVR writing strategy not only significantly improved the students' writing performance, but also increased their learning engagement and transferability. In addition, the results of epistemic network structure analysis showed that students using the SPPS-SVVR writing strategy focused on writing in terms of internal, mental, and dynamic environments. Interviews revealed that the SPPS-SVVR writing strategy supported the experimental group students' grasp of writing ideas and verbal expressions, and they were more satisfied with this strategy.

This article describes the development and use of a first of its kind statewide implementation of an adapted Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). Supported by a collaborative partnership between stakeholders that included families, state agencies, and a state university, the intervention was implemented within the existing framework of a northeastern state's relationship-based Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C early intervention program. Participants were 194 families. The study examined the effectiveness and implementation costs of an adaptation of the ESDM using a coaching model to inform statewide implementation to improve outcomes for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in rural and low-resource states. Results indicated 194 children who received a monthly average of 10.90 hr of adapted ESDM for an average of 12 months demonstrated an improvement in the frequency of ASD symptomology for a total cost of US$2,511/child. Intervention intensity and child factors demonstrated varying influence on outcomes. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the potential for positive impact of an evidence-based practice scaled to a statewide model of early intervention for young children with ASD.

Forced-choice (FC) measures have been widely used in many personality or attitude tests as an alternative to rating scales, which employ comparative rather than absolute judgments. Several response biases, such as social desirability, response styles, and acquiescence bias, can be reduced effectively. Another type of data linked with comparative judgments is response time (RT), which contains potential information concerning respondents' decision-making process. It would be challenging but exciting to combine RT into FC measures better to reveal respondents' behaviors or preferences in personality measurement. Given this situation, this study aims to propose a new item response theory (IRT) model that incorporates RT into FC measures to improve personality assessment. Simulation studies show that the proposed model can effectively improve the estimation accuracy of personality traits with the ancillary information contained in RT. Also, an application on a real data set reveals that the proposed model estimates similar but different parameter values compared with the conventional Thurstonian IRT model. The RT information can explain these differences.

The COVID-19 pandemic required choral music educators to abruptly shift their curriculums, expectations, and perspectives to effectively deliver content and meet their student's educational and emotional needs during this unprecedented time in education. This qualitative study highlights the voices of high school choral music educators to gain insight into the challenges they were facing and adjustments they were making one year into the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants also recognized some unexpected benefits of teaching choral music during the pandemic. By understanding the challenges of teaching during the pandemic and investigating the innovations in choral music education, educators can better prepare for post-pandemic instruction.

Teaching English through idioms and proverbs is one of the ways to help students' better understanding the use of English. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the frequency, interest and learning style of idioms and proverbs among first-year students at University of Khanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. It is hypothesized that teaching of idioms and proverbs increase students' vocabulary, help them understand grammar and sentence structure, grasp the meaning and culture of English, and finally use English naturally and confidently. This study adopted a quantitative strategy to answer research questions by employing descriptive analysis based on survey data collected between August 2022 and April 2023, at University of Khanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. A sample of 83 first-year English language students majoring in English and 14 English lecturers at University of Khanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa Province participated in the survey organized through Google Form. The data was analyzed by collating the participants' responses in tabular forms showing the number, frequency and the percentage of responses for each option, and help understand their opinion and perception. A comparative approach was also taken to differentiate the learning of English idioms and proverbs with the methods used in the Vietnamese language. The findings revealed that students with better English proficiency of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; a good learning environment and a good knowledge of culture and history learnt English proverbs and idioms more quickly. It is suggested that teachers need to teach idioms and proverbs combined with illustrations to promote students' critical thinking.

This study investigated college students' career maturity as a mediator of the effect of professional identity on academic achievement. The researchers developed a structural equation model and a research hypothesis using the Chinese college students' professional identity scale, career maturity scale, and academic achievement scale. After experts' revision and confirmatory analysis, the 3 scales had sufficient reliability, validity, and fit. The researchers distributed electronic questionnaires to students in 4 universities in Jilin Province, China, and participants responded using 5-point Likert-type scales. The researchers collected 1,104 valid questionnaires. According to the analysis, college students' professional identity is a positive predictor of their academic achievement, and career maturity partially mediates the influence of professional identity on academic achievement. Therefore, improving Chinese college students' professional identity may improve their academic achievement, and professional identity can have a positive effect on academic achievement through career maturity. University administrators and teachers should enhance the career maturity of college students and promote their professional development.

Family involvement is an essential component of the special education process for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In addition to the legal requirement that parents should be equal partners in the decision-making of the student's IEP program (IDEA, 2004), a bulk of empirical research demonstrates the positive impact of parent involvement on student outcomes. However, many families face barriers to participation in the special education process. Culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD), including Asian families, especially face systemic barriers when accessing services for their children with disabilities. In order to better understand parents' perceptions of stress in relation to individualized education program (IEP) meetings, special education knowledge, and family-professional collaborations, individual interviews were conducted with eight Asian families of children with IDD. The input provided by Asian parents provides many critical implications for practice.

The current study investigated the effectiveness of three distinct educational technologies--two game-based applications (From Here to There and DragonBox 12+) and two modes of online problem sets in ASSISTments (an Immediate Feedback condition and an Active Control condition with no immediate feedback) on Grade 7 students' algebraic knowledge. More than 3,600 Grade 7 students across nine in-person and one virtual schools within the same district were randomly assigned to one of the four conditions. Students received nine 30-minute intervention sessions from September 2020 to March 2021. Hierarchical linear modeling analyses of the final analytic sample (N = 1,850) showed significantly higher posttest scores for students who used From Here to There and DragonBox 12+ compared to the Active Control condition. No significant difference was found for the Immediate Feedback condition. The findings have implications for understanding how game-based applications can affect algebraic understanding, even within pandemic pressures on learning.

PowerPoint is a learning aid, developed for presentations. PowerPoint has "dynamic" features for creating presentations with dynamic actions. The knowledge of the infinite backward multiplier is difficult to understand. One of the difficulties in understanding this knowledge is infinity, "dynamic". In this study, we use the dynamic features of PowerPoint to design the sum of an infinite geometric sequence teaching. The study was conducted with 32 students in 11th grade. Students experimented with the dynamic model in PowerPoint. Research results show that the flexible use of PowerPoint's dynamic features allows the creation of dynamic models of the sum of an infinite geometric sequence. Dynamic models have made it easier for students to build knowledge, creating geometric images of infinite sums. Moreover, with the dynamic features of PowerPoint, creating artistic images, attracts students to actively participate in learning.

The present study employed the draw-a-picture technique and epistemic network analysis (ENA) to reveal university students' viewpoints on ChatGPT-supported learning, as well as the conceptions, roles, and educational objectives of ChatGPT-supported learning among university students with different learning attitudes. The results showed that university students' conceptions of ChatGPT-supported learning were diverse and interrelated. Most students agreed that ChatGPT could facilitate learning anytime and anywhere, and held positive emotions and attitudes. In the conceptions of ChatGPT-supported learning, there were significant differences in the four categories of locations, learning content, learning activities, and objects between the low learning attitude (LLA) and the high learning attitude (HLA) groups. Besides, the HLA group preferred to use ChatGPT for specific learning content, and showed higher levels of engagement in discussions and consultations. The LLA group was inclined to use ChatGPT at home or in places with traditional classroom equipment for completing reports or assignments. Most students in the HLA group regarded ChatGPT as a tutor, while those in the LLA group viewed it as a tool. Based on the above findings, this study puts forward some suggestions for how to implement ChatGPT-supported learning in higher education as a reference for educators, researchers and training developers.

Teachers' instructional design skills influence their teaching practices and student learning performances. However, researchers have found that the traditional one-to-many model of preservice teacher education prevents preservice teachers from receiving timely and individualized feedback, making it difficult to fill in theoretical knowledge gaps to achieve better instructional design. In order to address this issue, a chatbot-based 5E learning approach developed on the constructivist 5E (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate) learning model was proposed in this study. To investigate the effects of this learning approach, we conducted a quasi-experimental study at a university (31 in the experimental group and 37 in the control group). The chatbot-based 5E learning approach was applied by one class as the experimental group, while the control group applied the conventional 5E learning approach. The results showed that students in the experimental group reported more significant increases in learning performance, learning attitudes, and extrinsic motivation. In addition, learners were generally satisfied with the information quality supplied by the chatbot. The interview results showed that the approach could help students create a clarified learning framework and thus improve their learning performance.

The game-based learning approach to developing students' computational thinking (CT) current has received attention from researchers. However, the compatibility between games and instruction is often insufficient to accommodate the entertaining and educational nature of the curriculum entirely, and the benefits of game-based learning could be compromised. Therefore, this study proposed a role-playing-based micro-game strategy for developing students' CT in a Python programming course, and designed a quasi-experiment to verify the effectiveness of the role-playing-based micro-game strategy. A total of 133 eighth-grade students from schools in eastern China were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group used a role-playing-based micro-game strategy, and the control group used a traditional instructional strategy. The results showed that the experimental group scored significantly higher than the control group on the CT test, especially in the dimensions of computational concepts and computational practices. The learning engagement of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the learning motivation of the experimental group was significantly improved before and after the experiment. In addition, qualitative analysis of the interview data indicated that micro-game strategy on role-playing could promote classroom learning and meet the needs of the course knowledge system.

Information literacy is an essential twenty-first-century skill for students. Most students face difficulty in discerning online information while searching, evaluating, and utilizing it effectively. Appropriate information evaluating framework, such as RADAR (relevance, authority, date, appearance, and reason for writing), has been recommended to enhance students' accuracy in identifying information. Research suggests that the effectiveness of the learning framework can be enhanced in the gamification context by using graphic organizers (e.g. concept maps) to help students organize and analyze information. Therefore, this study proposed a concept mapping-based information evaluating framework in the gamification context to teach information identification skills in an elementary school. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with the experimental group class (35 students) using the concept mapping-based information evaluating framework (CM-IEF), and the control group (35 students) using the conventional information evaluating framework (C-IEF). According to the study's findings, students in the experimental group had more significant increases in learning achievement, self-efficacy, and information discernment skills. However, there was no significant difference in learning motivation. Furthermore, the learning behavior of both groups was analyzed from the lag sequential analysis and interview. The study suggests that larger sample sizes and longer durations could be explored in the future.

The shift to online learning has highlighted significant gaps in how students' emotional and social needs are supported (Bao, 2020). This paper explores innovative pedagogical feedback mechanisms designed to enhance emotional and social support in online settings. It introduces frameworks for delivering feedback that are both academically relevant and sensitive to students' well-being. This paper advocates for more empathetic and socially aware practices in providing feedback, especially in online discussion boards. Key mechanisms include AI-driven tools, social network analytics, multimodal tools, and sentiment analysis. These tools aim to create a more inclusive and supportive online learning community, boosting student engagement, retention, and satisfaction.

Family involvement is an essential component of the special education process for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In addition to the legal requirement that parents should be equal partners in the decision-making of the student's individualized education program (IEP) program (IDEA, 2004), a bulk of empirical research demonstrates the positive impact of parent involvement on student outcomes. However, many families face barriers to participation in the special education process. Culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD), including Asian-American families, especially face systemic barriers when accessing services for their children with disabilities. Unfortunately, less research is known about how Asian-American families participate in their child's IEP meeting. To these ends, individual interviews were conducted with eight Asian-American families of children with IDD to explore parental perceptions of stress in relation to IEP meetings, special education knowledge, and family-professional partnerships. Participants reported feeling stress before, during, and after the IEP meeting. Regardless of the nature (i.e. positive, negative, or neutral) relationship with the school, participants reported barriers (i.e. language and poor experiences with school personnel) to their family-school partnerships. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Test anxiety contributed to lower student performance, limited students' learning opportunities, predisposed to negative emotional experiences, and affected physical and mental health. Perfectionism as one of the crucial factors influencing test anxiety has been widely confirmed in the context of individualistic cultural values. This study explores the effects of perfectionism on test anxiety among junior high school students in collectivist cultural values (e.g., China) and the role of self-efficacy and trait anxiety in this context. The results of the study indicated that adaptive perfectionism positively predicted test anxiety, and maladaptive perfectionism was not related to test-taking in a group of middle school students in a Chinese cultural context. If adaptive perfectionism caused an increasein self-efficacy, it weakened trait anxiety and reduced test anxiety, whereas when adaptive perfectionism failedto cause an increase in self-efficacy, it led to higher trait anxiety and test anxiety.

As technology-enhanced children's learning has gained wide attention, programmable robots have been gradually introduced in early childhood education. Hence, it would be valuable to understand how young children perceive robot programming learning. Draw-a-picture technique is an ideal method to elicit ideas, thoughts, and feelings for children with limited literacy, and epistemic network analysis (ENA) is a novel analytical method to analyze children's conceptions through the visualized network model. Therefore, this study employed a draw-a-picture technique and ENA to explore 189 5-6-year-old young children's conceptions of robot programming learning and probe whether their conceptions differ by gender and learning achievements. Results revealed that most children believed that with robot programming kits, they could engage in programming activities with peers in any location and held positive emotions and attitudes. In addition, young children's conceptions of robot programming learning differ notably by gender and learning achievements. Based on the current findings, several suggestions were proposed, which could set a reference for future robot programming teaching in early childhood education.

Aim/Purpose: The main goal of this study is to investigate the factors affecting students' satisfaction and continuous usage of ChatGPT in an educational context, using the Expectation-Confirmation Model (ECM) as the theoretical framework. Specifically, this investigation focuses on identifying how user expectations, perceived usefulness, and satisfaction influence the continuous usage of ChatGPT in education. Background: ChatGPT is an AI-based chatbot that can generate natural language and support multi-turn dialogue. ChatGPT can be used in education for various purposes, such as academic writing, language translating, coding assistance, and information searching. Research indicates that ChatGPT is highly beneficial for students. Specifically, it aids in time-saving by synthesizing information across diverse fields and offers feedback tailored to individual learning needs and progress. Moreover, it enhances learning experiences through a personalized learning process, as well as aids in the translation of learning materials into different languages for improved accessibility. Despite the potential of ChatGPT in education, there remains a gap in understanding the determinants of user satisfaction and continuous usage. Therefore, this study was conducted to bridge this gap by assessing the impact of expectation confirmation, perceived usefulness, and satisfaction on continuous usage of ChatGPT. Methodology: This research employed a quantitative approach, which utilized a five-point Likert scale questionnaire to measure four variables with a total of 14 items. Data were collected from 435 students from eight Vietnamese universities through non-probability convenience sampling. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was examined using Cronbach's alpha. Four-factors Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were then employed through IBM SPSS 26 and AMOS 24 to assess the proposed model and hypotheses, allowing for a comprehensive examination of the relationships between 4 variables: perceived usefulness, expectation confirmation, satisfaction, and continuous usage. Contribution: This paper contributes to the literature on ChatGPT in education by identifying how expectation confirmation and perceived usefulness affect students' satisfaction and their intention to continue using ChatGPT in their learning. This study also has practical implications for educators and students for applying ChatGPT in their learning and teaching. It provides recommendations for effective use of ChatGPT in education. Findings: The study's results show that students with greater expectations, either met or surpassed by ChatGPT, perceived the tool as more beneficial and satisfying for their needs. Additionally, students who perceived ChatGPT as useful and valuable for their learning goals were more inclined to continue to use it. Furthermore, the findings indicate that higher satisfaction with the tool was associated with a greater likelihood of continuous usage. Nevertheless, the results did not reveal a significant relationship between perceived usefulness and satisfaction regarding ChatGPT. This implies that perceiving ChatGPT as useful does not guarantee satisfaction. This finding may be attributed to various factors influencing student satisfaction, such as price value, using habit, facilitating conditions, trust, reliability, and quality. Recommendations for Practitioners: Educators and students should consider the findings of this study to make informed decisions about the use of ChatGPT in educational settings, emphasizing the importance of managing users' expectation confirmation and ensuring perceived usefulness and satisfaction on continuous usage. Recommendation for Researchers: Researchers can use the findings of this study as a foundation for exploring a deeper understanding of user expectation confirmation and the factors influencing perceived usefulness and satisfaction with ChatGPT in diverse educational settings. Impact on Society: This study contributes to the broader field of the application of AI technologies in education, potentially reshaping the dynamics of interaction between students and educators with AI technologies for educational purposes. Its contributions have the potential to elevate the overall quality of education by promoting the appropriate and effective use of AI technologies. Future Research: Future research should investigate the roles of ChatGPT in education more deeply and explore its long-term effects on both learners and educators. This includes conducting comparative studies to evaluate the efficacy and advantages of ChatGPT-assisted learning in comparison to traditional teaching methods. Additionally, there is a crucial need to assess the broader impact of ChatGPT on students' academic performance, cognitive development, and critical thinking skills.

This study conducted a systematic review to identify the mainstreams of contemporary digital reading research. We performed a co-citation network analysis to examine the streams and features of key topics in digital reading research. We also performed content analysis and used the bibliometrix R-package to map digital reading research themes and identify several trends in the field. In this study, we (a) identified three mainstreams of research within the digital reading co-citation network (namely, differences in reading comprehension between print books and e-books, adolescents' habits and preferences related to digital reading and their digital reading literacy, and the analysis of reading behaviors as well as the use of interactive learning books); (b) determined that most studies on digital reading have employed quantitative or mixed methods, involved the use of tests and questionnaires to evaluate learners' performance, and have not focused on specific application domains or learning strategies; and (c) discovered that most studies on digital reading had investigated the affective aspects of learners' experiences, followed by cognition, learning behavior, and correlation or cause-and-effect analysis. We identified "engagement," "digital media," and "digital literacy" as key topics in research on digital reading. Directions for future research and digital reading education are provided..

This research reviews 56 robots in science education (RSE) research articles published in SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index) journals in the Web of Science (WoS) database. The analysis results showed that there were three clusters of RSE studies: robots in elementary science education, robot-based STEM activities, and robot-facilitated computational thinking. In terms of the research issues, more studies were conducted across-disciplines. Regarding thematic classifications, "general benefits of educational robots" was the most frequently investigated issue, while "diversity and broadening participation," and "creativity and motivation" were less frequently discussed. The most adopted research methods were quantitative and mixed methods, focusing on measuring learners' cognition and affect. Most of the interventions in the empirical studies adopted pedagogical interventions. In terms of the interaction issue, LEGO was adopted the most, followed by self-made robots; moreover, robots frequently played the role of tools in science education. From the perspective of specific robotics content knowledge, "control" (e.g. programming) comprised the majority. The most adopted learning strategy was project-based learning, followed by issue-based discussion. Regarding assessment issues, the most adopted evaluation approaches to evaluating students' performance were questionnaires, observation, verbal interviews, and artifacts to assess the quality of learning activities.

If geography teachers appreciate the important role of spatial thinking in their disciplines, they can proactively explore educational interventions to improve the spatial thinking of their students. Our understanding of geography teachers' perceptions around spatial thinking is still in its infancy. Until now almost all studies investigating spatial thinking in teachers have focused on pre-service teachers. Therefore, this study attempts to expand our understanding by exploring the perceptions of in-service geography teachers towards spatial thinking, spatial thinking instruction, and the factors that impact enactment of spatial thinking instruction. To achieve this goal, we conducted interviews with 15 geography teachers in Vietnam. The results show that teachers' understandings reflect three components of spatial thinking (concepts of space, tools of representation, and reasoning). However, their responses also reflect ambiguous and unclear understandings about spatial thinking. These findings can inform professional development for teachers in Vietnam.

Second language (L2) writing plays an important role in improving the learners' language skills of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in terms of language expression and linguistic thinking. Therefore, improving writing skills is still a focus area for EFL learners. To enhance EFL learners' writing ability and optimize their writing quality, an intelligent-based cognitive diagnostic feedback (I-CDF) strategy is proposed based on the Intelligent Writing Critique System (IWCS). IWCS can provide feedback on students' English writing learning components, including lexical, syntactic, rhetorical expression, chapter structure, and discourse intention. Hence, the study intends to assess the effects of feedback strategies based on students' writing scores, self-efficacy, epistemic network structure, and transferability. A quasi-experiment was conducted in two classes at a university in southeastern China, where students were randomly divided into two classes. One (N = 32) was considered an experimental group conducted using the proposed I-CDF strategy, while the other (N = 30) was the control group using the score-based teacher corrective feedback (S-TCF) strategy. The writing experiment lasted for seven weeks. The students would be interviewed at the end of the writing learning activities. The results indicated that the I-CDF strategy improved students' writing scores and self-efficacy. Furthermore, the epistemic network analysis showed that, compared to the control group, the I-CDF strategy encouraged the students to devote more energy to focus on high-level applications of writing skills such as rhetorical expression and sentence structure collation, optimizing the students' writing epistemic network of the writing of the students. The interview revealed that the I-CDF strategy supported the experimental group students' accurate understanding of writing, strengthening the logical structure of the writing. At the same time, the students in the experimental group were satisfied with the I-CDF strategy.

COVID-19 contributed to the largest student performance decline in mathematics since 1990. The nation needs cost-effective mathematic interventions to address this drop and improve students' mathematics performance. This study presents a cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) of three algebraic technological applications, across four conditions: From "Here to There" ("FH2T"), Dragon Box 12+ (DragonBox), Immediate Feedback and Active Control. This CEA study uses impact measures from a student-level randomized control trial comparing student learning from the three treatment conditions to the Active Control condition with an analytic sample of 1,850 middle school students across 9 schools, 34 teachers, and 127 classes. The results from the CEA indicate FH2T costs $39 per student and produces an average effect of 0.135 on algebraic achievement resulting in a cost-effectiveness ratio of $291. DragonBox costs $55 per student and produces an average effect of 0.269 on algebraic achievement resulting in a cost-effectiveness ratio of $206. Overall, the current CEA study demonstrates the efficiency of FH2T and DragonBox as low-cost interventions for improving students' algebraic performance and addressing the nation's decline in mathematics.

Students always suffer from burnout during online learning. Although social support and cognitive engagement are associated with learning burnout, limited information is available on whether and how these relationships change over time in an online learning setting. This study investigated the longitudinal relationships between social support, cognitive engagement, and learning burnout and the further relations associated with performance. Forum data and self-reported data from 116 online college students were analyzed at two different timepoints. We found received social support is not related to learning burnout but shows a positive relationship with cognitive engagement that increases over time. Perceived social support is always positively correlated with cognitive engagement and negatively associated with learning burnout. Cognitive engagement has a negative relation with learning burnout that increases over time. Moreover, the negative relationship between learning burnout and performance emerges in the middle of the term but not at the end, thus indicating a significant change over time. The findings have significant ramifications for both preventing and intervening in online learning burnout.

The growing prevalence of advanced generative artificial intelligence chatbots, such as ChatGPT, in the educational sector has raised considerable interest in understanding their impact on student knowledge and exploring effective and sustainable implementation strategies. This research investigates the influence of knowledge management factors on the continuous usage of ChatGPT for educational purposes while concurrently evaluating student satisfaction with its use in learning. Using a quantitative approach, a structured questionnaire was administered to 513 Vietnamese university students via Google Forms for data collection. The partial least squares structural equation modeling statistical technique was employed to examine the relationships between identified factors and evaluate the research model. The results provided strong support for several hypotheses, revealing significant positive effects of expectation confirmation on perceived usefulness and satisfaction, as well as perceived usefulness on user satisfaction and continuous usage of ChatGPT. These findings suggest that when students recognize the usefulness of ChatGPT for their learnings, they experience higher satisfaction and are more likely to continue using it. In addition, knowledge acquisition significantly impacts both satisfaction and continuous usage of ChatGPT, while knowledge sharing and application influence satisfaction exclusively. This indicates that students prioritize knowledge acquisition over sharing and applying knowledge through ChatGPT. The study has theoretical and practical implications for ChatGPT developers, educators, and future research. Theoretically, it contributes to understanding satisfaction and continuous usage in educational settings, utilizing the expectation confirmation model and integrating knowledge management factors. Practically, it provides insights into comprehension and suggestions for enhancing user satisfaction and continuous usage of ChatGPT in education.

This study investigated the differences between Chinese female and male university students regarding the relationship between conscientiousness, interpersonal relationships, and social loafing. By analyzing these relationships, this study interpreted how personality, mediators, and gender differences affect social loafing. In total, 827 Chinese university students were recruited from three universities in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. Students completed an online questionnaire, which included a conscientiousness scale, an interpersonal relationship scale, and a social loafing scale. Structural equation modeling was performed to test the validity of the measurement scales, mediating effects, and group differences. The findings revealed that the relationship between conscientiousness, interpersonal relationships, and social loafing differed between female and male Chinese university students. Interpersonal relationships served as a partial mediator in the relationship between conscientiousness and social loafing among female students. Interpersonal relationships did not play a mediating role in the relationship between conscientiousness and social loafing among male students. We suggest that university administrators should promote cooperation among Chinese university students.

Robotics education has received widespread attention in K-12 education. Studies have pointed out that in robotics courses, learners face challenges in learning abstract content, such as constructing a robot with a good structure and writing programs to drive a robot to complete specific learning tasks. The present study proposed the embodied learning-based computer programming approach and applied it to the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics course. To evaluate its effectiveness, a quasi-experiment was conducted in one public primary school to explore its effects on students' learning achievement, learning motivation, learning attitudes, learning engagement, and cognitive load. The experimental group (40 students) adopted the embodied learning-based computer programming approach, while the control group (40 students) adopted the conventional computer programming approach. The results showed that the experimental group had significantly better learning achievement in robotics than the control group, and that there was no significant difference in the cognitive load of the two groups. In terms of learning motivation, although both groups showed improvement, the experimental group had higher intrinsic learning motivation. In addition, the experimental group outperformed the control group with regard to learning attitudes and learning engagement (including cognitive, behavioral, and emotional engagement). Accordingly, this study could contribute to future research for developing more effective robotics teaching approaches and computer programming activity design.

This study provides research-based evidence to profile: (1) the roles of artificial intelligence in nursing; (2) its research applications; and (3) the research trends for future study. On the basis of the PRISMA statement, a series of AI and nursing education related keywords from the literature were used to retrieve high-quality journal articles from the Web of Science. A total of 112 AI-supported nursing education research articles were analyzed based on a three-dimensional framework, including interaction (e.g. the roles of AI, types of AI systems), research (e.g. methods and fields), and performance (e.g. research groups and measurement foci). The results revealed that AI played a primary role in profiling and prediction in nursing research (63%), and the most used AI system in nursing was intelligent agents (53%). The quantitative approach (87%) was the dominant research method, and the most relevant studies concerned health and medicine (92%). Regarding sample and measurement matters, patients and medical staff (75%) were the two primary research samples, and the performance evaluation of AI-related tools and systems (90%) was the core measurement focus. Additional content analysis across the three research interests was performed and discussed. Directions for future studies are provided.

With the rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (GAI), the performance and usability of related tools, such as ChatGPT, have significantly improved. The advancement has fostered researchers to increasingly focus on students' perceptions and application of the roles, functionalities, and interaction patterns of these tools in higher education. The present study adopted the draw-a-picture technique to explore the viewpoints and conceptions of undergraduates with different growth mindsets regarding the roles and functionalities of ChatGPT in learning. It also analyzed their interaction process with ChatGPT, especially their interaction skills and question types. The results showed that there were significant differences in the conceptions of "locations," "learning content," and "learning activities" of students with different growth mindsets. In the interaction process between undergraduates and ChatGPT, significant differences existed in the interaction skills and question types of students with different growth mindsets. Besides, students with different growth mindsets also had different learning achievements and critical thinking tendencies. The findings revealed the conceptions of students with different growth mindsets regarding the roles and functionalities of ChatGPT in learning, and also provided valuable insights for teachers. These findings are beneficial for educators to more accurately adjust and optimize the application of these tools in teaching activities based on students' different growth mindsets.

The present study explored the comparability in performance scores between the computer-delivered and face-to-face modes for the two speaking tests in the Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency (VSTEP) (the VSTEP.2 and VSTEP.3-5 Speaking tests) according to Vietnam's Six-Level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework (VNFLPF) and test takers' experiences. Data were collected from 75 and 82 VSTEP.2 and VSTEP.3-5 university English-majored test takers respectively in both computer-delivered and face-to-face conditions. A counterbalanced research design was adopted to minimise mode order effects. After test completion, 30 of the test takers, 15 from each proficiency test, were interviewed in the focus group format of 3-4 members per group. The results indicated mixed, selective effects of the testing mode. Overall, test scores were comparable in the VSTEP.2 Speaking test but significantly higher in favour of the face-to-face mode for the VSTEP.3-5 Speaking test. However, the statistically significant difference was observed in only one measure of the many analytical criteria (content development in the former test, and pronunciation in the latter test) with mixed mode advantages. The interview data has provided rich refreshing insights into how test takers viewed each testing mode against real-life communication. Their experiences further revealed a wide range of affective preferences involved in the inherent affordances or constraints of each testing mode and their communication and performance/outcome orientation. The findings offer important implications for extrapolation, test preparation and administration, and test taker/rater training in the particular context of the two English speaking proficiency tests in Vietnam and perhaps beyond.

Undergraduate research experiences (UREs) significantly enhance the outcomes of students who participate. Unfortunately, students may face barriers to engaging in UREs, which creates challenges for students' development of essential research skills that may not be covered thoroughly in laboratory classes. Overall, there is a need for a curriculum that does not rely on the availability of lab resources and that allows students to gain more practice in developing laboratory critical-thinking skills such as troubleshooting. To address this challenge, we designed and implemented a student-initiated course (STIC) called A Primer on Research Techniques in Molecular Biology (PORT) at a large public university. Using mixed qualitative and quantitative methods, we evaluated the outcomes of PORT and students' perceived differences between regular courses and STICs. PORT was effective for teaching students how common molecular biology techniques work. Additionally, PORT helped students develop core research competencies and practice the critical-thinking skills they need to troubleshoot. Students described the STIC instructor as more relatable, approachable, and accessible, though less experienced in pedagogy compared with faculty in regular courses. The students also suggested that regular courses could benefit from additional focus on practical skills development and the inquiry-based learning model that was employed by PORT.

In recent years, smart healthcare technologies used to facilitate precision medicine in clinical practice have increasingly become a topic of discussion. Nurses and nurse preceptors are critical professionals in hospitals, and are also the frontline staff using smart healthcare. The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' and nurse preceptors' perceptions of smart healthcare (including learning motivation, learning attitudes, and personal innovativeness) and the differences in their conceptions of learning in smart healthcare technology contexts. The research findings showed that nurse preceptors had higher mean scores than nurses for learning motivation, learning attitudes, and personal innovativeness in smart healthcare, especially for learning attitudes and personal innovativeness. The nurse preceptors' conceptions of learning in smart healthcare technology contexts were also more diverse than those of nurses. The main differences are that nurses' drawings showed a healthcare setting where learners (both patients and nurses) use computers to connect to cloud services for online visits, and where patients can engage in online health education learning activities via computers or mobile devices. The nurse preceptors' drawings focused on the delivery of nursing knowledge and skills to learners via VR technologies, helping diagnose patients, analyzing medical data, and predicting healthcare through smart healthcare technologies.

In Chinese, writing is a basic competency that pupils should possess. But it is still challenging for teachers to improve pupils' writing abilities. Therefore, this study proposes an intelligence-based cognitive diagnostic feedback strategy to improve pupils' writing ability and writing learning quality by analyzing their writing performance, epistemic network structure, and learning engagement. Thepupils are randomly divided into an experimental group (N = 28) and a control group (N = 28). The experimental group adopts the ICDF strategy, while the control group adopts the WS-TF strategy. The results showed that the I-CDF strategy improved the pupil's writing scores and learning engagement. In addition, the results of the epistemic network analysis showed that the pupils using the ICDF strategy focused on dynamic descriptions such as action, psychology, and environmental changes in vocabulary use, and the epistemic network structure was more complex than the control group. The interviews showed that the pupils in the experimental group were highly satisfied with I-CDF strategy.

Reading comprehension is critical and challenging for the English learning process. EFL (English as Foreign Language) learners often do not understand the meaning of the text due to the lack of an authentic learning context. This easily leads learners to read literally without deeply understanding. To address this issue, an article-structure strategy-based SVVR (short for ASS-SVVR) approach was proposed in the study, in which spherical video-based virtual reality (SVVR) was employed to immerse EFL learners in a real environment, and the article-structure strategy was introduced as step-by-step reading scaffolding to improve reading efficiency, accuracy, and comprehension. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a quasi-experiment was conducted in an English reading class at a university with two classes of 63 EFL learners. Among them, 33 learners were randomly distributed to the experimental group, conducting the ASS-SVVR approach, while the remaining 30 were assigned to the control group, conducting the conventional SVVR (C-SVVR) approach. The research findings showed that EFL students conducting the ASS-SVVR approach had positive performance in reading comprehension, extrinsic learning motivation, and metacognitive awareness of reading strategy. Moreover, cognitive load and sense of presence were not shown to have a significant difference between the two groups.
