O objetivo da entrevista é analisar as concepções de avaliação e qualidade educacional na contemporaneidade à luz das reflexões sobre as políticas públicas brasileiras influenciadas pelo desenvolvimento global da sociedade capitalista. A entrevista discute as causas estruturais da reforma empresarial da educação e sua intencionalidade, exemplificando os riscos com o desenvolvimento desta política em seu país de origem - a América do Norte – e que se encontra em estágio mais avançado, permitindo analisar suas consequências e desdobramentos na política educacional brasileira, instigados pelas estratégias no campo da avaliação e qualidade educacional. O entrevistado aponta impactos e dilemas da reforma empresarial no contexto brasileiro e indica caminhos de resistência, propondo conceitos alternativos para os processos de avaliação que contrariam a noção predominante da “qualidade empresarial” para a educação e fortalecem a luta e defesa da qualidade social da escola pública.

Já se vão muitos anos desde que as políticas neoliberais buscam se apropriar da avaliação da qualidade da escola, naturalizando formas de controle vertical sobre o trabalho docente à guisa de promover maior qualidade de ensino. Para tal, muito tempo e dinheiro públicos têm sido dispendidos de modo a estampar, por via de resultados dos estudantes em testes estandardizados, um retrato fiel, e quase ortodoxo, do quanto a escola e seus profissionais têm falhado na execução de sua função precípua, qual seja, garantir que as crianças e jovens aprendam. Parece se homogeneizar a ideia de que, quanto mais se avalia, mais qualidade se produz. Nesse sentido, a escola, atrelada à lógica empresarial, passa a ser qualificada pela produtividade, eficiência e competência numa perspectiva mercantil e tecnocrática.

Abstract The new generation of heterogeneous CPU/GPU computer systems offer much greater computational performance but are not yet widely used for climate modeling. One reason for this is that traditional climate models were written before GPUs were available and would require an extensive overhaul to run on these new machines. In addition, even conventional “high–resolution” simulations don't currently provide enough parallel work to keep GPUs busy, so the benefits of such overhaul would be limited for the types of simulations climate scientists are accustomed to. The vision of the Simple Cloud‐Resolving Energy Exascale Earth System (E3SM) Atmosphere Model (SCREAM) project is to create a global atmospheric model with the architecture to efficiently use GPUs and horizontal resolution sufficient to fully take advantage of GPU parallelism. After 5 years of model development, SCREAM is finally ready for use. In this paper, we describe the design of this new code, its performance on both CPU and heterogeneous machines, and its ability to simulate real‐world climate via a set of four 40 day simulations covering all 4 seasons of the year.

O artigo apresenta o mapeamento da avaliação em larga escala de competências socioemocionais desenvolvida pelo Instituto Ayrton Senna (IAS) nas redes estaduais de ensino na região Sudeste do Brasil com o objetivo de analisar essa proposta avaliativa, especificamente no estado de São Paulo. Por meio de pesquisa qualitativa em documentos institucionais e materiais de comunicação das secretarias de educação e do IAS (totalizando 40), desvela-se a presença do instituto na região Sudeste e, em São Paulo, efetivamente a partir da aplicação da avaliação socioemocional em larga escala. Dessa forma, evidencia-se a incidência do IAS na política educacional para os anos finais do Ensino Fundamental e Ensino Médio disseminando as ideias do setor empresarial/privado na educação pública. RESUMO Este artigo destaca as relações entre accountability e a avaliação de sistema, a partir das análises das avaliações da educação obrigatória do Brasil e do Uruguai. As avaliações de sistema ganham destaque no contexto histórico-político e se desdobram diferentemente em cada país. A pesquisa qualitativa foi desenvolvida a partir do estudo de dois casos (Brasil e Uruguai), por meio de levantamento documental e bibliográfico, e, análise de conteúdo. Entende-se que estas avaliações podem apontar para limitações no que tange à educação de qualidade social.

In pursuing quick and precise progressive flooding simulations for decision-making support, the linearised method has emerged and undergone refinement in recent years, becoming a reliable tool, especially for onboard decision support. This study consolidates and enhances the modelling approach based on a system of differential-algebraic equations capable of accommodating compartments filled with floodwater. The system can be linearised to permit analytical solutions, facilitating the utilization of larger time increments compared to conventional solvers for differential equations. Performance enhancements are achieved through the implementation of an adaptive time-step mechanism during the integration process. Furthermore, here, a correction coefficient for opening areas is introduced to enable the accurate modelling of free outflow scenarios, thereby mitigating issues associated with the assumption of deeply submerged openings used in governing equations. Experimental validation is conducted to compare the method’s efficacy against recent model-scale tests, specifically emphasising the improvements stemming from the correction for free outflow.

IntroductionThe loose-patch clamp technique was first developed and used in native amphibian skeletal muscle (SkM), offering useful features complementing conventional sharp micro-electrode, gap, or conventional patch voltage clamping. It demonstrated the feedback effects of pharmacological modification of ryanodine receptor (RyR)-mediated Ca2+ release on the Na+ channel (Nav1.4) currents, initiating excitation–contraction coupling in native murine SkM. The effects of the further RyR and Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) antagonists, dantrolene and cyclopiazonic acid (CPA), additionally implicated background tubular-sarcoplasmic Ca2+ domains in these actions.Materials and methodsWe extend the loose-patch clamp approach to ion current measurements in murine hippocampal brain slice cornu ammonis-1 (CA1) pyramidal neurons. We explored the effects on Na+ currents of pharmacologically manipulating RyR and SERCA-mediated intracellular store Ca2+ release and reuptake. We adopted protocols previously applied to native skeletal muscle. These demonstrated Ca2+-mediated feedback effects on the Na+ channel function.ResultsExperiments applying depolarizing 15 ms duration loose-patch clamp steps to test voltages ranging from −40 to 120 mV positive to the resting membrane potential demonstrated that 0.5 mM caffeine decreased inward current amplitudes, agreeing with the previous SkM findings. It also decreased transient but not prolonged outward current amplitudes. However, 2 mM caffeine affected neither inward nor transient outward but increased prolonged outward currents, in contrast to its increasing inward currents in SkM. Furthermore, similarly and in contrast to previous SkM findings, both dantrolene (10 μM) and CPA (1 μM) pre-administration left both inward and outward currents unchanged. Nevertheless, dantrolene pretreatment still abrogated the effects of subsequent 0.5- and 2-mM caffeine challenges on both inward and outward currents. Finally, CPA abrogated the effects of 0.5 mM caffeine on both inward and outward currents, but with 2 mM caffeine, inward and transient outward currents were unchanged, but sustained outward currents increased.ConclusionWe, thus, extend loose-patch clamping to establish pharmacological properties of murine CA1 pyramidal neurons and their similarities and contrasts with SkM. Here, evoked though not background Ca2+-store release influenced Nav and Kv excitation, consistent with smaller contributions of background store Ca2+ release to resting [Ca2+]. This potential non-canonical mechanism could modulate neuronal membrane excitability or cellular firing rates.

BackgroundSeveral recent studies have proposed the possible application of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) administering radiolabelled fibroblast-activation protein (FAP) inhibitors for various forms of thyroid cancer (TC), including differentiated TC (DTC), and medullary TC (MTC).MethodsThe authors conducted an extensive literature search of original studies examining the effectiveness of FAP-guided PET/CT in patients with TC. The papers included were original publications exploring the use of FAP-targeted molecular imaging in restaging metastatic DTC and MTC patients.ResultsA total of 6 studies concerning the diagnostic yield of FAP-targeted PET/CT in TC (274 patients, of which 247 DTC and 27 MTC) were included in this systematic review. The included articles reported high values of FAP-targeted PET/CT detection rates in TC, ranging from 81 to 100% in different anatomical sites and overall superior to the comparative imaging method.ConclusionAlthough there are promising results, the existing literature on the diagnostic accuracy of FAP-guided PET in this context is still quite limited. To thoroughly evaluate its potential significance in TC patients, it is needed to conduct prospective randomized multicentric trials.

Contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) and their respective transformation products (TPs) formed following photodegradation pose considerable threats to the environment and our health. The formation of TPs during UV-LED-based degradation of three target pollutants in the EU Watch List of CECs was accessed by LC-MS-Orbitrap, and their reaction pathways were elucidated. The influence of different matrices and treatments of choice on TP formation was investigated. Results showed that matrix changes did not produce different reaction pathways during UV-A photocatalysis, although plots of TP peak areas vs. time were different for each case. A new TP was found for the antidepressant venlafaxine, (1-[2-(dimethylnitroryl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]cyclohexanol. When comparing UV-A photocatalysis with UV-C photolysis, dissimilar pathways were observed due to the distinct reaction mechanisms of each process, since photocatalysis, unlike photolysis, relies on radical-based reaction routes. Different levels of confidence were obtained for each TP depending on the availability of MS2 data in the literature and of standards for comparison. All the found TPs had similar molecular masses in comparison to their respective parent compounds. Most of the TPs remained in the effluent after 6 hours of photodegradation, which highlights the importance of their control, close-monitoring, and further toxicity assessments. Background: The prognostic role of imaging with [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in oropharynx cancer (OPC) has been demonstrated in the past. The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic impact of both baseline and post-treatment PET/CT in patients with OPC and treated with chemo- and/or radiotherapy. Methods: The PET/CT parameters of scans performed before and after therapy were collected and analyzed to find significant prognosticators for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection’s influence on the prognosis was also taken into account. Results: A total of 66 patients were included in the study. The staging volumetric parameters of PET/CT were significant prognosticators for OS, while the same parameters were affordable predictors for PFS at the restaging evaluation. No significant correlations between HPV infection and PET/CT parameters were reported. Conclusion: The prognostic role of volumetric [18F]FDG PET/CT parameters in patients with OPC was reported.

Background: Recent studies have suggested using positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeting radiopharmaceuticals for the detection of salivary gland malignancies (SGM), particularly adenoid-cystic carcinoma (ACC). Methods: The authors conducted an extensive review of the scientific literature to examine the potential diagnostic role of PET/CT using PSMA-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in salivary gland malignancies (SGMs) and adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). This study included newly diagnosed SGM patients and those with disease recurrence in their imaging evaluation. Results: This updated systematic review included a total of six studies that examined the diagnostic performance of PSMA-targeted PET/CT in ACC. The articles provided evidence of a high detection rate of PSMA-targeting PET/CT in ACC across all clinical contexts examined. SGMs other than ACC exhibited poorer diagnostic performance. Conclusions: PSMA-targeted PET/CT seems promising in detecting ACC lesions; moreover, PSMA appears to be a suitable potential target for radioligand therapy. Prospective multicentric studies are warranted to strengthen the role of PSMA-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in ACC, as both diagnostic and theragnostic agents.

El artículo analiza las trayectorias de cuatro mujeres italianas exiliadas durante la dictadura fascista en Italia: Joyce Lussu, Vera Funaro Modigliani, Graziella Sechi y Margherita Grassini Sarfatti. A partir de estos casos muy diferentes entre sí, el objetivo del artículo es abordar la cuestión de la relación entre género y exilio. Por un lado, plantea algunos interrogantes sobre el peso relativo de este factor frente a otros, como el estatus socioeconómico, en la determinación del compromiso político de las mujeres en el exilio. Por otro lado, trata de entender si y cómo el exilio cambió las relaciones de género en la pareja.

Abstract Background Serum anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) is currently considered the best marker of ovarian reserve and of ovarian responsiveness to gonadotropins in in-vitro fertilization (IVF). AMH assay, however, is not available in all IVF Units and is quite expensive, a reason that limits its use in developing countries. The aim of this study is to assess whether the "ovarian sensitivity index" precisely reflects AMH so that this index may be used as a surrogate for AMH in prediction of ovarian response during an IVF cycle. Methods AMH serum levels were measured in 61 patients undergoing IVF with a "long" stimulation protocol including the GnRH agonist buserelin and recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH). Patients were divided into four subgroups according to the percentile of serum AMH and their ovarian stimulation was prospectively followed. Ovarian sensitivity index (OSI) was calculated dividing the total administered FSH dose by the number of retrieved oocytes. Results AMH and OSI show a highly significant negative correlation (r = -0.67; p = 0.0001) that is stronger than the one between AMH and the total number of retrieved oocytes and than the one between AMH and the total FSH dose. Conclusions OSI reflects quite satisfactory the AMH level and may be proposed as a surrogate of AMH assay in predicting ovarian responsiveness to FSH in IVF. Being very easy to calculate and costless, its use could be proposed where AMH measurement is not available or in developing countries where limiting costs is of primary importance.

Résumé Introduction Le gène Nicotinamide Nucleotide Transhydrogenase (NNT) a été récemment impliqué dans l’Insuffisance Surrénalienne Primaire (ISP). Il code pour une protéine de la membrane mitochondriale interne qui produit de fortes quantités de NADPH. Le NADPH est utilisé par plusieurs voies de biosynthèse et dans l’oxydo-réduction de radicaux libres par les voies de signalisation impliquant le glutathion et la thioredoxine dans la mitochondrie. Les patients avec une ISP, en lien avec un déficit du gène NNT, peuvent également présenter des manifestations extra-surrénaliennes, dont une altération gonadique. Cas clinique Nous présentons le cas clinique d’un homme de 35 ans adressé à notre centre d’Assistance Médicale à la Procréation pour infertilité primaire avec azoospermie non obstructive, dans un contexte d’ISP et d’obésité. L’exploration génétique effectuée à l’âge de 30 ans a identifié un déficit complet de la protéine NNT dû à la présence de deux mutations hétérozygotes (une sur chaque allèle), délétères. L’échographie scrotale a montré une tumeur testiculaire d’origine surrénalienne à droite. L’intensification du traitement par glucocorticoides pendant 8 mois n’a pas réduit le volume de la tumeur ni amélioré la production spermatique ou la fonction testiculaire endocrine. Aucun spermatozoïde n’a été retrouvé après exploration chirurgicale testiculaire bilatérale, en lien avec un syndrome de Cellules de Sertoli Seules. L’étude rétrospective de l’axe hypothalamo-hypophysaire-gonadique monte une altération progressive de la fonction testiculaire, accélérée à l’âge adulte, aboutissant à un hypogonadisme hypergonadotrope et une azoospermie non-obstructive à 30 ans, alors que l’ISP était contrôlée pendant cette période. Conclusion Ce cas clinique met en évidence pour la première fois une disparition complète de la lignée germinale chez un patient avec un déficit en NNT. Il avance des arguments en faveur de l’hypothèse d’un rôle déterminant des dommages cellulaires, dus à un excès de radicaux oxygénés dans cette atteinte régulière de la fonction gonadique. Cette dernière devrait être suivie à partir de la puberté chez les patients ISP et plus particulièrement ceux ayant un déficit en NNT. Une préservation de la fertilité pourrait leur être proposée lorsqu’ils deviennent adultes.

Abstract Background The Najuta stent-graft (Kawasumi Laboratories Inc., Tokyo, Japan) is usually easily advanced to the correct deployment position in the ascending aorta thanks to the pre-curved delivery J-sheath with all fenestrations automatically oriented towards the supra-aortic vessels. Aortic arch anatomy and delivery system stiffness could however represent limitations for proper endograft advancement, especially when the aortic arch bends sharply. The aim of this technical note is to report a series of bail-out procedures that could be useful to overcome the difficulties encountered during the Najuta stent-graft advancement up to the ascending aorta. Main body The insertion, positioning and deployment of a Najuta stent-graft requires a through-and-through guidewire technique using a .035″ 400 cm hydrophilic nitinol guidewire (Radifocus™ Guidewire M Non-Vascular, Terumo Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) with right brachial and both femoral accesses. When standard maneuver to put the endograft tip into the aortic arch, some bail-out procedures can be applied to obtain proper positioning. Five techniques are described into the text: positioning of a coaxial extra-stiff guidewire; positioning of a long introducer sheath down to the aortic root from the right brachial access; inflation of a balloon inside the ostia of the supra-aortic vessels; inflation of a balloon inside the aortic arch (coaxial to the device); and transapical access technique. This is a troubleshooting guide for allowing physicians to overcome various difficulties with the Najuta endograft as well as for other similar devices. Short conclusion Technical issues in advancing the delivery system of Najuta stent-graft could occur. Therefore, the rescue procedures described in this technical note could be useful to guarantee the correct positioning and deployment of the stent-graft.

O objetivo desse artigo é discutir o regime de Progressão Continuada na rede pública estadual paulista, por meio de investigação qualitativa, levantamento bibliográfico e documental. Abrangendo 44 documentos de 1995 a 2017, destacaram-se: o Projeto de Lei 251/2007, que dispôs sobre o fim da Progressão Continuada no estado de SP; a Lei Complementar 41/2008, que instituiu a Bonificação por Resultados (BR) e o Projeto de Lei 857/2015, que propôs o fim da “Aprovação Automática”. A análise de dados quantitativos do IBGE demonstrou que houve um aumento no índice de reprovação escolar entre 1999 e 2016, invalidando a afirmação de que o regime de Progressão Continuada teria se convertido na prática da Promoção Automática. Já a ausência de participação na discussão da proposta, formação continuada para os docentes, investimento em materiais adequados, discussões sobre a política nos cursos de formação inicial de professores etc., prejudicaram a concretização da política educacional.

Abstract Background Total-body positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanners are characterized by higher signal collection efficiency and greater spatial resolution compared to conventional scanners, allowing for delayed imaging and improved image quality. These advantages may also lead to better detection of physiological processes that diagnostic imaging professionals should be aware of. The gallbladder (GB) is not usually visualized as an 18F-2-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG)-avid structure in routine clinical PET/CT studies; however, with the total-body PET/CT, we have been increasingly visualizing GB activity without it being involved in an inflammatory or neoplastic process. The aim of this study was to report visualization rates and characteristics of GB 18F-FDG uptake observed in both healthy and oncological subjects scanned on a total-body PET/CT system. Materials and methods Scans from 73 participants (48 healthy and 25 with newly diagnosed lymphoma) who underwent 18F-FDG total-body PET/CT were retrospectively reviewed. Subjects were scanned at multiple timepoints up to 3 h post-injection. Gallbladder 18F-FDG activity was graded using liver uptake as a reference, and the pattern was qualified as present in the wall, lumen, or both. Participants’ characteristics, such as age, sex, body-mass index, blood glucose, and other clinical parameters, were collected to assess for any significant correlation with GB 18F-FDG uptake. Results All 73 subjects showed GB uptake at one or more imaging timepoints. An increase in uptake intensity overtime was observed up until the 180-min scan, and the visualization rate of GB 18F-FDG uptake was 100% in the 120- and 180-min post-injection scans. GB wall uptake was detected in a significant number of patients (44/73, 60%), especially at early timepoint scans, whereas luminal activity was detected in 71/73 (97%) subjects, especially at later timepoint scans. No significant correlation was found between GB uptake intensity/pattern and subjects’ characteristics. Conclusion The consistent observation of GB 18F-FDG uptake recorded in this study in healthy participants and subjects with a new oncological diagnosis indicates that this is a normal physiologic finding rather than representing an exception.

Background: A higher risk for COVID-19 infection and severity for men compared to women has been described since the beginning of the pandemic. The role of androgens has been recently highlighted as they control two key steps of coronavirus infection mediated through the transmembrane protease serin 2 (TMPRRS2) and the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor in the lung tissue. Furthermore, a high incidence of androgenic alopecia among males with COVID-19 disease have been reported.Objective: This study aims to evaluate the telogen effluvium (TE) prevalence and its relationship with clinical and immunologic parameters in a sample of patients consecutively evaluated after recovery from COVID-19 pneumonia in Northern Italy.Methods: Overall 104 patients were recruited within three months from COVID-19 pneumonia recovery; 80 (77%) had been hospitalized in a Respiratory Intensive Care Unit and the remaining ones had been treated at home. The extent of TE was assessed with a visual analogic scale for thick bundle of hairs. Demographic and clinical data and systemic inflammation biomarkers were also evaluated.Results. Thirty-two patients reported a history of TE and their mean TE-VAS score was 5.78 ± 1.72 (range 3–9). Women had about a 5-fold higher risk (odds) of complaining of TE compared to males (OR = 4.69, 95%CI: 1.91, 11.49; p = .001), and the association became stronger when adjusted for COVID-19 severity (hospital admission vs home care: OR = 6.09, 95%CI: 2.34, 15.88; p < .001). Levels of C-reactive protein >1.90 mg/l (ORadj: 2.43, 95%CI 0.85, 7.05, p = 0.096) or IL 1β > 5 ng/l (ORadj 4.72, 95%CI: 1.31, 23.19, p = .03) were also significantly associated with TE.Conclusion: This exploratory study raises the hypothesis that hair shedding is more strictly related to the severity of COVID-19 disease and the underlying inflammation rather than to patients' hormonal status. KEY MESSAGESThe presence of Telogen effluvium (TE) was significantly more common in women.Higher severity of the Covid-19 disease seems to play a critical role, more important than the hormonal influence, in the development of TE.The severity of inflammation related to TE and Covid-19 could also play a role as suggested by the higher levels of CRP and platelets and IL1β.

Aim: To assess the relationship between [18F]FDG PET/CT, breast cancer gene (BRCA) status, and their prognostic role in patients with ductal breast cancer (DBC). Methods: Forty-one women were included. PET/CT semiquantitative parameters such as standardized uptake value (SUV) body weight max (SUVmax), SUV body weight mean (SUVmean), SUV lean body mass (SUVlbm), SUV body surface area (SUVbsa), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG), ratio SUVmax/blood-pool (S-BP), and ratio SUVmax/liver (S-L) were also extracted. The relationship between these parameters, BRCA, and other clinicopathological features were evaluated. Kaplan–Meier, univariate, and multivariate analyses were performed to find independent prognosticators for progression free (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Results: Significant positive correlations between BRCA status and SUVmax (p-value 0.025), SUVlbm (p-value 0.016), and SUVbsa (p-value 0.018) were reported. Mean PFS was 53.90 months with relapse/progression of disease occurring in nine (22.0%) patients; mean OS was 57.48 months with death occurring in two (4.9%) patients. Survival curves revealed TLG, MTV, and BRCA status as prognosticator for PFS; BRCA was also a prognosticator for OS. Univariate and multivariate analyses did not confirm such insights. Conclusion: We reported a correlation between some PET/CT parameters and BRCA status; some insights on their prognostic role have been underlined.

Background and Objectives: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of leukemia in developed countries, which can evolve into aggressive lymphoma variants, a process called Richter transformation (RT). The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the role of 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (2-[18F]-FDG PET/CT) and its semiquantitative and radiomics features in detecting RT and evaluate the impact on overall survival (OS). Materials and Methods: One hundred and thirty-seven patients with histologically proven CLL were retrospectively recruited. PET/CT images were qualitatively and semiquantitatively examined by estimating the main metabolic parameters (the maximum standardized uptake value body weight (SUVbw), lean body mass (SUVlbm), body surface area (SUVbsa), lesion-to-blood-pool SUV ratio (L-BP SUV R), lesion-to-liver SUV ratio (L-L SUV R), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) and radiomics first- and second- order variables of the lesion with highest uptake. The role of these parameters in predicting RT and OS was analyzed. Results: One hundred and thirty (95%) PET/CT scans were positive, showing an increased tracer uptake at the site of disease, whereas the remaining 7 (5%) scans were negative. SUVbw, SUVlbm, SUVbsa, L-L SUV ratio, and L-BP SUV ratio were significantly higher in the RT group (p < 0.001 in all cases). Radiomics first- and second-order features were not significantly associated with RT. After a median follow-up of 44 months, 56 patients died; OS was significantly shorter in patients with RT than patients without RT (28 vs. 34 months; p = 0.002). Binet-stage, RT, and L-BP SUV R were shown to be independent prognostic features. Conclusions: Semiquantitative PET/CT parameters such as SUVbw, SUVlbm, SUVbsa, L-L SUV ratio and L-BP SUV ratio may be useful in discriminating patients with a high risk of developing RT, whereas Binet-stage, RT, and L-BP SUV R are also significant in predicting OS.

Nowadays, the industrial world is undergoing a disruptive transformation towards more environmentally sustainable solutions. In the blue economy, this new approach is not only expressed in the domain of actual vessels, but also in the development of charging infrastructure, displaying a notable transition towards more eco-friendly solutions. The key focus lies in adopting flexible power systems capable of integrating renewable energy sources and storage technologies. Such systems play a crucial role in enabling a shift towards low-emission maritime transport. The emissions reduction goal extends beyond onboard shipboard distribution systems, encompassing also the design of supplying platforms and marinas. This study explores the implementation of a controlled DC microgrid tailored to efficient management of power flows within a yacht marina. Once having established the interfaces for the vessels at berth, the integration between the vessels, the onshore photovoltaic plant and the battery storage unit is made possible thanks to the coordinated management of multiple power converters. The overarching goal is to curtail reliance on external energy sources. Within this DC microgrid framework, a centralized controller assumes a pivotal role in orchestrating the power sources and loads. This coordinated management is essential to achieve sustainable operations, ultimately leading to the reduction of emissions from both ships and onshore power plants.

Several studies have examined the use of positron emission tomography (PET) using [68Ga]Ga-radiolabeled fibroblast-activation protein inhibitors (FAPi) across multiple subtypes of head and neck cancer (HNC). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a newly developed molecular imaging approach in the context of HNC through a comprehensive review and meta-analysis. A thorough literature review was conducted to identify scholarly articles about the diagnostic effectiveness of FAP-targeted PET imaging. The present study incorporates original publications assessing the efficacy of this innovative molecular imaging test in both newly diagnosed and previously treated HNC patients. This systematic review examined eleven investigations, of which nine were deemed suitable for inclusion in the subsequent meta-analysis. The quantitative synthesis yielded a pooled detection rate of 99% for primary HNC lesions. Additionally, on a per patient-based analysis, the pooled sensitivity and specificity for regional lymph node metastases were found to be 90% and 84%, respectively. The analysis revealed a statistical heterogeneity among the studies for the detection rate of primary HNC lesions. The quantitative findings presented in this study indicate a favorable diagnostic performance of FAP-targeted PET imaging in detecting primary HNC tumors. In contrast, discordant results concerning the diagnostic accuracy of lymph node metastases were found. However, further multicentric trials are required to validate the efficacy of FAP-targeted PET in this specific group of patients.

A accountability ou responsabilidade educacional, tão debatida em pesquisas é o foco deste artigo, resultado da tese de doutoramento que analisou o projeto de Lei 7420/2006 e seus Substitutivos. O PL 7420/2006 dispõe sobre qualidade da educação básica e da responsabilidade dos gestores públicos pela sua promoção. A partir das pesquisas documental e bibliográfica, foram analisadas as categorias qualidade, avaliação, participação e responsabilidade (bem como suas dimensões), que emergiram das propostas de Lei. Os resultados da pesquisa evidenciaram que, mesmo com movimentos de resistência às concepções hegemônicas, a tentativa de juridificação da responsabilidade educacional no Brasil está permeada pela lógica gerencialista que busca fundamentos no ideário neoliberal e se utiliza de um discurso democrático para dar uma aparência participativa. Nesse sentido, o desfecho da proposta poderá acarretar uma concepção reducionista de qualidade educacional e uma concepção de responsabilidade pautada na culpabilização dos profissionais do magistério, em virtude da lógica que os perpassa.

Background: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) still represents the gold standard for anatomical arterial mapping and revascularization decision-making in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI), although DUS (Doppler Ultrasound) remains a primary non-invasive examination tool. The Global Vascular Guidelines established the importance of preoperative arterial mapping to guarantee an adequate in-line flow to the foot. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of DUS in guiding therapeutic vascular treatments on the basis of Global Vascular Guidelines without the need of a second-level examination. Methods: Between January 2022 and June 2022, all consecutive patients with CLTI to be revascularized underwent clinical examination and DUS without further diagnostic examinations. Primary outcomes assessed were technical success, and 30-day mortality. Secondary outcomes were 1-year amputation free survival, and time between evaluation and revascularization. Results: Sixty-eight patients with a mean age of 73.6 ± 8.5 years underwent lower limb revascularization. Technical success was 100%, and the 30-day mortality rate was 2.9%. Mean time between evaluation and revascularization was 29 ± 17 days. One-year amputation free survival was 97.1%. Conclusions: DUS without further diagnostic examinations can accurately assess the status of the vascular tree and foot runoff, providing enough information about target vessels to guide revascularization strategies.

IntroductionRadiochemotherapy (RCHT) for the treatment of anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) has evolved dramatically, also thanks to intensity-modulated RT (IMRT) and 3D image guidance (3D IGRT). Despite most patients presenting fair outcomes, unmet needs still exist. Predictors of poor tumor response are lacking; acute toxicity remains challenging; and local relapse remains the main pattern of failure.Patients and methodsBetween 2010 and 2020, ASCC stages I–III treated with 3D conformal radiotherapy or IMRT and CDDP-5FU or Mytomicine-5FU CHT were identified. Image guidance accepted included 2D IGRT or 3D IGRT. The study endpoints included freedom from locoregional recurrence (FFLR), colostomy free survival (CFS), freedom from distant metastasis (FFDM), overall survival (OS), and acute and late toxicity as measured by common terminology criteria for adverse events (CTCAE) version 5.0. An exploratory analysis was performed to identify possible radiomic predictors of tumor response. Feature extraction and data analysis were performed in Python™, while other statistics were performed using SPSS® v.26.0 software (IBM®).ResultsA total of 131 patients were identified. After a median FU of 52 months, 83 patients (63.4%) were alive. A total of 35 patients (26.7%) experienced locoregional failure, while 31 patients (23.7%) relapsed with distant metastasis. Five year FFLR, CFS, DMFS and PS resulted 72.3%, 80.1%, 74.5% and 64.6%. In multivariate analysis, 2D IGRT was associated with poorer FFLR, OS, and CFS (HR 4.5, 4.1, and 5.6, respectively); 3DcRT was associated with poorer OS and CFS (HR 3.1 and 6.6, respectively). IMRT reduced severe acute gastro-intestinal (GI) and severe skin acute toxicity in comparison with 3DcRT. In the exploratory analysis, the risk of relapse depended on a combination of three parameters: Total Energy, Gray Level Size Zone Matrix’s Large Area High Gray Level Emphasis (GLSZM’s LAHGLE), and GTV volume.ConclusionsAdvances in radiotherapy have independently improved the prognosis of ASCC patients over years while decreasing acute GI and skin toxicity. IMRT and daily 3D image guidance may be considered standard of care in the management of ASCC. A combination of three pre-treatment MRI parameters such as low signal intensity (SI), high GLSZM’s LAHGLE, and GTV volume could be integrated in risk stratification to identify candidates for RT dose-escalation to be enrolled in clinical trials.

Abstract Background Graft disruption is an unusual complication of the endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR). Case presentation A 71-year-old man underwent standard EVAR with Zenith Alpha Abdominal endograft. Follow-up examinations revealed an initial significant sac shrinkage. At 24 months, duplex ultrasound (DUS) scan and computed tomography showed increase of the sac diameter associated with complete disconnection of the suprarenal stent-graft from the main body without evidence of endoleak. A standard relining with a thoracic endograft was performed between the suprarenal stent and the main body of the previous graft. At 6 months DUS revealed sac shrinkage. Conclusions This report demonstrates an uncommon cause of endograft failure with suprarenal stent disconnection from main body and highlights the need for continuous follow-up in patients undergoing EVAR.

Various papers have introduced the use of positron emission tomography (PET) with [68Ga]Ga-radiolabeled fibroblast-activation protein inhibitor (FAPi) radiopharmaceuticals in different subtypes of gastric cancer (GC). Our aim was to assess the diagnostic performance of this novel molecular imaging technique in GC with a systematic review and meta-analysis. A straightforward literature search of papers concerning the diagnostic performance of FAP-targeted PET imaging was performed. Original articles evaluating this novel molecular imaging examination in both newly diagnosed GC patients and GC patients with disease relapse were included. The systematic review included nine original studies, and eight of them were also eligible for meta-analysis. The quantitative synthesis provided pooled detection rates of 95% and 97% for the assessment of primary tumor and distant metastases, respectively, and a pooled sensitivity and specificity of 74% and 89%, respectively, for regional lymph node metastases. Significant statistical heterogeneity among the included studies was found only in the analysis of the primary tumor detection rate (I2 = 64%). Conclusions: Beyond the limitations of this systematic review and meta-analysis (i.e., all the included studies were conducted in Asia, and using [18F]FDG PET/CT as a comparator of the index test), the quantitative data provided demonstrate the promising diagnostic performance of FAP-targeted PET imaging in GC. Nevertheless, more prospective multicentric studies are needed to confirm the excellent performances of FAP-targeted PET in this cluster of patients.

Our aim was to investigate the usefulness of 18fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in the diagnosis, treatment response evaluation, and follow-up of human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8)-associated multicentric Castleman’s disease (MCD). Fifteen patients with histologically diagnosis of HHV-8-associated MCD were retrospectively included. For all patients, a 18F-FDG PET/CT scan was performed before any treatment for diagnosis and PET/CT scans after Rituximab (4 cycles) for the evaluation of treatment response; moreover, 22 PET/CT were performed during the follow-up to check disease status. To evaluate treatment response, we applied Deauville criteria. PET/CT findings were compared with other conventional imaging (CI) findings. At diagnosis, 18F-FDG PET/CT showed an increased FDG-uptake in all cases corresponding to lymph nodes and confirming the MCD. The average SUVmax of the FDG avid lesions were 8.75, average lesion-to-liver SUVmax ratio was 3.6, and average lesion-to-blood pool SUVmax ratio was 3.9. After first-line therapy, 18F-FDG PET/CT resulted negative (Deauville score < 4) in seven patients and positive in the remaining eight (Deauville score 4–5). A negative restaging PET/CT was associated with a lower risk of relapse. During follow-up, PET/CT detected the presence of relapse or progression in 5 (23%) cases with an accuracy higher than CI. 18F-FDG PET/CT seems to be an useful tool in studying HHV-8-associated MCD both at diagnosis and during follow-up.

The development of a neuroendocrine phenotype as a mechanism of resistance to hormonal treatment is observed in up to 20% of advanced prostate cancer patients. High grade neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) is associated to poor prognosis and the therapeutic armamentarium is restricted to platinum-based chemotherapy. Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-based positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) imaging has recently emerged as a potential new standard for the staging of prostate cancer and PSMA-based radioligand therapy (RLT) as a therapeutic option in advanced metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). PSMA-based theranostic is not currently applied in the staging and treatment of NEPC since PSMA expression on neuroendocrine differentiated cells was shown to be lost. In this case series, we present 3 consecutive mCRPC patients with histologically proven high grade neuroendocrine differentiation who underwent PSMA-PET/CT and surprisingly showed high tracer uptake. This observation stimulates further research on the use of PSMA-based theranostic in the management of NEPC.

Abstract Biological effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) have previously been identified for cellular proliferation and changes in expression and conduction of diverse types of ion channels. The major effect elicited by EMFs seems to be directed toward Ca2+ homeostasis. This is particularly remarkable since Ca2+ acts as a central modulator in various signaling pathways, including, but not limited to, cell differentiation and survival. Despite this, the mechanisms underlying this modulation have yet to be unraveled. Here, we assessed the effect of EMFs on intracellular [Ca2+], by exposing HEK 293 cells to both radio‐frequency electromagnetic fields (RF‐EMFs) and static magnetic fields (SMFs). We detected a constant and significant increase in [Ca2+] subsequent to exposure to both types of fields. Strikingly, the increase was nulled by administration of 10 μM Thapsigargin, a blocker of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+‐ATPases (SERCAs), indicating the involvement of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) in EMF‐related modulation of Ca2+ homeostasis.

The challenge of achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the shipping sector is a pressing issue that is yet to be fully overcome. While new fuels and technologies hold promise for the future, they are not currently viable solutions on a large scale in the short-term. One strategy that is being considered as a way to reduce CO2 and CO emissions in the immediate future is carbon capture technology. Additionally, the possibility of a carbon tax being implemented in the future further strengthens the case for the adoption of this technology, which is already quite mature and in use in industries, although it has yet to be developed in the maritime sector. In this paper, the authors start from the definition of carbon capture technology to provide a technical overview of the solutions that are currently available to the maritime sector. Given the absolute innovation of such systems for application on board ships, the authors studied their installation and developed appropriate schemes to illustrate the feasibility of integration of these new technologies on board. Furthermore, the authors highlight the different levels of technological readiness of the proposed systems based on their potential for implementation on board commercial vessels.

(1) Background: Emerging data regarding patients recovered from COVID-19 are reported in the literature, but cardiac sequelae have not yet been clarified. To quickly detect any cardiac involvement at follow-up, the aims of the research were to identify: elements at admission predisposing subclinical myocardial injury at follow up; the relationship between subclinical myocardial injury and multiparametric evaluation at follow-up; and subclinical myocardial injury longitudinal evolution. (2) Methods and Results: A total of 229 consecutive patients hospitalised for moderate to severe COVID-19 pneumonia were initially enrolled, of which 225 were available for follow-up. All patients underwent a first follow-up visit, which included a clinical evaluation, a laboratory test, echocardiography, a six-minute walking test (6MWT), and a pulmonary functional test. Of the 225 patients, 43 (19%) underwent a second follow-up visit. The median time to the first follow-up after discharge was 5 months, and the median time to the second follow-up after discharge was 12 months. Left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) and right ventricular free wall strain (RVFWS) were reduced in 36% (n = 81) and 7.2% (n = 16) of the patients, respectively, at first the follow-up visit. LVGLS impairment showed correlations with patients of male gender (p 0.008, OR 2.32 (95% CI 1.24–4.42)), the presence of at least one cardiovascular risk factor (p < 0.001, OR 6.44 (95% CI 3.07–14.9)), and final oxygen saturation (p 0.002, OR 0.99 (95% CI 0.98–1)) for the 6MWTs. Subclinical myocardial dysfunction had not significantly improved at the 12-month follow-ups. (3) Conclusions: in patients recovered from COVID-19 pneumonia, left ventricular subclinical myocardial injury was related to cardiovascular risk factors and appeared stable during follow-up.

Background: Recently, several studies introduced the potential use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in radioiodine-refractory thyroid cancer (TC). Methods: The authors accomplished a comprehensive literature search of original articles concerning the performance of PSMA-targeted PET/CT in TC patients. Original papers exploring this molecular imaging examination in radioiodine-refractory TC patients undergoing restaging of their disease were included. Results: A total of 6 documents concerning the diagnostic performance of PSMA-targeted PET/CT in TC (49 patients) were included in this systematic review. The included articles reported heterogeneous values of PSMA-targeted PET/CT detection rates in TC, ranging from 25% to 100% and overall inferior to [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT when the two molecular imaging examinations were compared. Two studies reported the administration of [177Lu]PSMA-radioligands with theragnostic purpose in three patients. Conclusions: The available literature data in this setting are limited and heterogeneous. The employment of PET with PSMA-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in this setting did not affect patient management. Nevertheless, prospective multicentric studies are needed to properly assess its potential role in TC patients.

Understanding the rules of life is one of the most important scientific endeavours and has revolutionised both biology and biotechnology. Remarkable advances in observation techniques allow us to investigate a broad range of complex and dynamic biological processes in which living systems could exploit quantum behaviour to enhance and regulate biological functions. Recent evidence suggests that these non-trivial quantum mechanical effects may play a crucial role in maintaining the non-equilibrium state of biomolecular systems. Quantum biology is the study of such quantum aspects of living systems. In this review, we summarise the latest progress in quantum biology, including the areas of enzyme-catalysed reactions, photosynthesis, spin-dependent reactions, DNA, fluorescent proteins, and ion channels. Many of these results are expected to be fundamental building blocks towards understanding the rules of life.

ETNK1 mutations are recurrent in leukemia but how they contribute to oncogenesis is still unclear. Here, the authors show that ETNK1 mutations increase mitochondrial activity, ROS and H2AX levels and that these effects can be rescued upon phosphoethanolamine supplementation.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to estimate the varietal and heterotic effects related to grain yield, popping expansion and resistance of popcorn against fall armyworm. Twelve open-pollinated varieties were intercrossed in a complete diallel mating scheme. The 66 experimental hybrids, together with their parents and controls Zapalote Chico, BRS 1030 and IAC 125, resulted in a total of 81 treatments, evaluated in an experiment in a 9x9 triple-square lattice design, in Maringá-PR and Araruna-PR. The data were analyzed according to the diallel model of Gardner and Eberhart (1966). The following traits were evaluated: grain yield (GR); mean plant height (PH) and insertion height of the highest ear in the stem (EI); silking (SIL); final plant density (FD) and popping expansion (PE). Variety PR 023 is indicated for intrapopulation improvement for grain yield. Regarding popping expansion, the results indicated cross SAM x UNB 2U C5 for recurrent reciprocal selection. In relation to resistance to fall armyworm, the varieties PARA 172, PA 091, PR 023, and SE 013 were selected for intrapopulation improvement. On the other hand, the crosses PARA 172 x BOZM 260, PA 091 x BOYA 462 and SAM x UNB 2U C5 can be indicated for interpopulation improvement.

O artigo apresenta e discute uma iniciativa promovida pela Regional 2 (RJ/ES) da Associação Brasileira do Ensino de Biologia (SBEnBio) para compreensão das práticas de ensino de Ciências e Biologia desenvolvidas por docentes durante o isolamento social determinado pela pandemia de COVID-19 no período compreendido entre março e abril de 2020. Aplicamos um questionário on-line a 187 respondentes. Os resultados indicam que demandas metodológicas sobre planejamento, avaliação e estratégias didáticas constituíram os principais desafios nesta conjuntura. Destaca-se também o aumento da carga de trabalho e as dificuldades de acesso à internet de seus estudantes. Concluímos que é um momento árduo para a maioria dos docentes, mas que associações como a SBEnBio podem criar espaços para reflexão sobre essas práticas.

Este artigo promove a reflexão intensificada nos discursos políticos oficiais brasileiros sobre a qualidade da educação. A partir de 1990, as avaliações de sistemas se constituíram como possibilidade para regulação da qualidade educacional, influenciada por organismos internacionais. Utilizamos do levantamento documental e bibliográfico (abordagem qualitativa) sobre a política nacional de avaliação no Brasil e as orientações do Banco Mundial para o setor educacional. Buscamos esclarecer sobre as ideias, os valores propagados e subjacentes à qualidade, impregnados da lógica do mercado, apontando para a importância da disputa de outras ideias e valores que encaminhem para a construção da qualidade social da educação, com vistas a formação humana e o direito à educação pública de qualidade.

Supporting policies to achieve a green revolution and ecological transition is a global trend. Although the maritime transport of goods and people can rightly be counted among the least polluting sectors, much can be done to further reduce its environmental footprint. Moreover, to boost the ecological transition of vessels, a whole series of international regulations and national laws have been promulgated. Among these, the most impactful on both design and operational management of ships concern the containment of air-polluting emissions in terms of GHG, NOx, SOx and PM. To address this challenge, it might seem that many technologies already successfully used in other transport sectors could be applied. However, the peculiar characteristics of ships make this statement not entirely true. In fact, technological solutions recently adopted, for example, in the automotive sector must deal with the large size of vessels and the consequent large amount of energy necessary for their operation. In this paper, with reference to the case study of a medium/large-sized passenger cruise ship, the use of different fuels (LNG, ammonia, hydrogen) and technologies (internal combustion engines, fuel cells) for propulsion and energy generation on board will be compared. By imposing the design constraint of not modifying the payload and the speed of the ship, the criticalities linked to the use of one fuel rather than another will be highlighted. The current limits of application of some fuels will be made evident, with reference to the state of maturity of the relevant technologies. Furthermore, the operational consequences in terms of autonomy reduction will be presented. The obtained results underline the necessity for shipowners and shipbuilders to reflect on the compromises required by the challenges of the ecological transition, which will force them to choose between reducing payload or reducing performance.

Maternal separation (MS) stress is a predictive animal model for evaluating the effects of early stress exposure on alcohol use disorders (AUD). The extended amygdala (AMY) is a complex circuit involved in both stress- and ethanol-related responses. We hypothesized that MS stress may increase ethanol consumption in adulthood, as well as augment neuronal activity in extended AMY, in a sex-dependent manner. We aimed to investigate the influence of MS stress on the ethanol consumption of male and female mice, and the involvement of extended amygdala sub-nuclei in this process. The C57BL/6J pups were subjected to 180min of MS, from postnatal day (PND) 1 to 14. The control group was left undisturbed. On PND 45, mice (n=28) in cages were exposed to a bottle containing 20% ethanol (w/v) for 4h during the dark period of the light-dark cycle, for 3weeks. Afterward, mice underwent ethanol self-administration training in operant chambers under fixed ratio (FR) schedule. Then, subjects were tested under 2h sessions of a progressive-ratio (PR) schedule of reinforcement (the last ratio achieved was considered the breaking point), and at the end, a 4h session of FR schedule (binge-intake). An immunohistochemistry assay for Fos protein was performed in Nucleus Accumbens (NAcc), Bed Nucleus of Stria Terminalis (BNST), and AMY. Our results showed that in the third week of training, the female MS group consumed more ethanol than the respective control group. The MS group presented increased breakpoint parameters. Female control group and male MS group were more resistant to bitter quinine taste. Increased Fos-immunoreactive neurons (Fos-IR) were observed in the central nucleus of AMY, but not in NAcc nor BNST in male maternal-separated mice. Maternal separation stress may influence ethanol intake in adulthood, and it is dependent on the sex and reinforcement protocol.

Abstract This paper describes the first implementation of the Δx = 3.25 km version of the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) global atmosphere model and its behavior in a 40‐day prescribed‐sea‐surface‐temperature simulation (January 20 through February 28, 2020). This simulation was performed as part of the DYnamics of the Atmospheric general circulation Modeled On Non‐hydrostatic Domains (DYAMOND) Phase 2 model intercomparison. Effective resolution is found to be ∼6× the horizontal dynamics grid resolution despite using a coarser grid for physical parameterizations. Despite this new model being in an immature and untuned state, moving to 3.25 km grid spacing solves several long‐standing problems with the E3SM model. In particular, Amazon precipitation is much more realistic, the frequency of light and heavy precipitation is improved, agreement between the simulated and observed diurnal cycle of tropical precipitation is excellent, and the vertical structure of tropical convection and coastal stratocumulus look good. In addition, the new model is able to capture the frequency and structure of important weather events (e.g., tropical cyclones, extratropical cyclones including atmospheric rivers, and cold air outbreaks). Interestingly, this model does not get rid of the erroneous southern branch of the intertropical convergence zone nor the tendency for strongest convection to occur over the Maritime Continent rather than the West Pacific, both of which are classic climate model biases. Several other problems with the simulation are identified, underscoring the fact that this model is a work in progress.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of positron emission tomography/computed tomography with [18F]-fludeoxyglucose (FDG-PET/CT) and radiomics analysis in detecting differences between the native aorta and the abdominal aortic allograft after the total eradication of infection in patients undergoing infected graft removal and in situ reconstruction with cryopreserved allografts. Methods: Between January 2008 and December 2018, 56 vascular reconstructions with allografts have been performed at our department. The present series included 12 patients undergoing abdominal aortic in situ reconstruction with cryopreserved allografts. During the follow-up, all patients underwent a total-body [18F]FDG PET/CT with subsequent radiomics analysis. In all patients, a comparative analysis between the data extracted from native aorta and cryopreserved graft for each patient was performed. Results: All patients were male with a mean age of 72.8 years (range 63–84). Mean duration of follow-up was 51.3 months (range 3–120). During the follow-up, 2 patients (16.7%) needed a redo allograft-related surgical intervention. Overall, the rate of allograft dilatation was 33.3%. No patient had a redo infection during the follow-up. Radiomics analysis showed a different signature of implanted allograft and native aorta. Comparative analysis between the native aortas and cryopreserved allografts (dilated or not) showed several statistical differences for many texture features. Conclusions: The higher metabolic activity of allografts could indicate a state of immune-mediated degeneration. This theory should be proven with prospective, multicentric studies with larger sample sizes.

Background: Several studies proposed the use of positron emission tomography (PET) with Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA)-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our aim is to calculate the detection rate (DR) of this examination in HCC with a meta-analysis. Methods: A comprehensive literature search of studies on the DR of PET/CT or PET/MRI with PSMA-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in HCC was performed. Original articles evaluating these imaging examinations both in newly diagnosed HCC patients and HCC patients with disease relapse were included. Pooled DR including 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) was calculated. Statistical heterogeneity was also assessed using the I2 test. Results: The meta-analysis of six selected studies (126 patients) provided a DR of 85.9% for PET imaging with PSMA-targeting radiopharmaceuticals in the diagnosis of HCC. Moderate statistical heterogeneity among the included studies was found (I2 = 56%). Conclusions: The quantitative data provided demonstrate the high DR of PET/CT or PET/MRI with PSMA-targeting radiopharmaceuticals for HCC lesion detection. However, more studies are needed to confirm the promising role of PSMA-targeted PET in HCC.

Ibogaine is a psychedelic extracted from the plant Tabernanthe iboga Baill. (Apocynaceae), natural from Africa, and has been proposed as a potential treatment for substance use disorders. In animal models, ibogaine reduces ethanol self-administration. However, no study to date has investigated the effects of ibogaine on ethanol-induced conditioned place preference (CPP). The present study aimed to investigate the effects of repeated treatment with ibogaine on the reinstatement of CPP to ethanol in male mice. The rewarding effects of ethanol (1.8 g/kg, i. p.) or ibogaine (10 or 30 mg/kg, p. o.) were investigated using the CPP model. Furthermore, we evaluated the effects of repeated treatment with ibogaine (10 or 30 mg/kg, p. o.) on the reinstatement of ethanol-induced CPP. Reinstatement was evaluated under two conditions: 1) during a priming injection re-exposure test in which animals received a priming injection of ethanol and had free access to the CPP apparatus; 2) during a drug-free test conducted 24 h after a context-paired re-exposure, in which subjects received an injection of ethanol and were confined to the compartment previously conditioned to ethanol. Our results show that ethanol, but not ibogaine, induced CPP in mice. Treatment with ibogaine after conditioning with ethanol blocked the reinstatement of ethanol-induced CPP, both during a drug priming reinstatement test and during a drug-free test conducted after re-exposure to ethanol in the ethanol-paired compartment. Our findings add to the literature suggesting that psychedelics, in particular ibogaine, may have therapeutic properties for the treatment of alcohol use disorder at doses that do not have rewarding effects per se.

Um modelo de avaliação de larga escala multidimensional referenciado na qualidade social da escola pública é o recorte deste estudo desenvolvido junto ao Observatório de Educação. A voz de professores e gestores captada via grupo focal contrastada com o referencial teórico da formação humana gerou um instrumento contendo indicadores dispostos em uma escala tipo Likert respondida por 846 professores de uma rede municipal. Os dados tratados estatisticamente evidenciaram escolas que trabalham na perspectiva da qualidade social mantendo suas singularidades nas diferentes dimensões. A pesquisa pretende colaborar com os avanços no campo das medidas educacionais ao evitar o reducionismo dos índices uni/bidimensionais sem perder de vista a avaliação institucional participativa, necessária para que a escola interpele as práticas que produz e delibere sobre os novos desafios na luta pela qualidade social.
