Over the years, industrial safety management in Peru's metallurgical mining sector has become a business problem with no acceptable solution. Annual statistics reveal an average of 60–70 fatal accidents in companies in this sector. This paper proposes using the Systemic Methodology to Develop and Maintain a Dynamic Balanced Scorecard MSDBSC-EM) to be used in the industrial safety management of the safety department of a Peruvian company in the metallurgical mining sector. This methodology was created at the Instituto Andino de Sistemas - IAS of Peru and combines the criteria of the Balanced Scorecard with the modeling of System Dynamics and contributions of the Soft System Methodology. This proposal demonstrates that dynamic simulation facilitates organizational learning and allows the designing of action plans in the present to manage the future. Also, modeling and computer tools facilitate the development and implementation of prototypes, which can be used to analyze required scenarios through pleasant and easy-to-use environments. In this sense, a dynamic model of key performance indicators of objectives, goals and initiatives was developed and four scenarios (A, B, C and D) were analyzed, from which it can be observed that the degree of commitment and leadership with the Industrial safety affects the increase in the level of preventive culture, which in turn favors the prevention of risks and the achievement of tangible objectives in industrial safety, evident in the drastic decrease in the occurrence of accidents and occupational diseases, and this is achieved to the extent that the personnel have the necessary competencies, which in turn is obtained through constant comprehensive training and the appropriate selection of personnel. On the other hand, the operating budget of the security department is a limiting factor in achieving these criteria. Another important aspect is the degree of existing communication, which affects the increase in the level of preventive culture.

Purpose. Development of a database designed to systematization and store information on the technical condition of industrial structures based on the results of periodic visual and instrumental surveys. Methodology. The information system includes a database, a database management system and an application programme. The most appropriate type of database for monitoring the technical condition of structures is a relational structure. The database model covers owners, buildings, structures, quantitative and qualitative parameters of defects and damage, strength indicators of building structures and tilt of industrial structures. Findings. Structural query language was used in the process of developing a database for monitoring the technical condition of industrial facilities. The created database "Monitoring" includes interconnected tables that provide holistic and efficient storage of information. The tables are linked using foreign keys, which provides easy access and data management. The tables are conditionally divided into those that users fill in and those that are filled in in accordance with legislative and regulatory documents at the stage of database creation. This approach to building a database ensures structured storage of information on the technical condition of buildings, taking into account regulations and legislation. The integration of tables filling in by users and pre-filled tables creates a system that increases the efficiency of monitoring the technical condition of industrial structures. Originality. The scientific novelty of the proposed database lies in an innovative approach to structuring and integrating various types of data related to the technical condition of industrial structures. The system offers an effective combination of data from different formats and sources into a single information space and will further provide a comprehensive analysis of the condition of building structures, which is one of the key factors of industrial safety. Practical value. It is intended to improve the efficiency of industrial structures maintenance and exploitation safety, and provides tools for storing the results of monitoring the condition of building structures.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to analyse and evaluate the main results and experiences of disaster management research and development activities, on the basis of which to determine future development directions. Methodology: The impact assessment prepared in the framework of the study presents the characteristics of disaster management research and development activities, and also makes structured proposals for solving the appeared research problems. Findings: The results of disaster management scientific activity carried out as part of law enforcement researches provide an opportunity to modernise the legal regulatory, professional and technical bases of disaster management administration in a manner appropriate to recent scientific development. Value: The disaster management research and development experiences processed in the framework of the study provide a suitable basis for a high level of compliance with the relevant social needs.

The aerospace industry prioritises safety protocols to prevent accidents that can result in injuries, fatalities, or aircraft damage. One of the potential hazards that can occur while manoeuvring aircraft in and out of a hangar is collisions with other aircraft or buildings, which can lead to operational disruption and costly repairs. To tackle this issue, we have developed the Smart Hangar project, which aims to alert personnel of increased risks and prevent incidents from happening. The Smart Hangar project uses computer vision, LiDAR, and ultra-wideband sensors to track all objects and individuals within the hangar space. These data inputs are combined to form a real-time 3D Digital Twin (DT) of the hangar environment. The Active Safety system then uses the DT to perform real-time path planning, collision prediction, and safety alerts for tow truck drivers and hangar personnel. This paper provides a detailed overview of the system architecture, including the technologies used, and highlights the system’s performance. By implementing this system, we aim to reduce the risk of accidents in the aerospace industry and increase safety for all personnel involved. Additionally, we identify future research directions for the Smart Hangar project.

In Ukraine, more than 70 % of mining operations are carried out in quarries. The mining industry has negative impacts on society, especially workers in the industry. The International Labour Organization states that the mining sector is one of the most dangerous sectors in the world. The current study was designed to understand the occupational safety and health situation in the mining industry at the granite quarries in Ukraine, because the exceeding accepted standards for factors of the production environment and labour process contributes to the development of occupational diseases. The study aimed to improve the working conditions of mining workers by adjusting the work shift structure. The main task was to plan an hourly work shift schedule that takes into account the influence of harmful production factors without compromising production efficiency. The study found that the influence of all four factors was reduced to acceptable limits after changing the work shift schedule. For the dust factor, the danger level was reduced from 4 to 1.25, for vibration – from 5.94 to 2.05, for noise – from 91 to 88, for severity of work – from 2.06 to 1.86. The achieved effect is explained by a reduction in the time an employee spends in hazardous conditions. Similar studies should be carried out for each profession in the extractive industry.

In the early 1920s, Russia moved on from the New Economic Policy to industrialization. The Kuznetsk Coal Basin needed an advanced mine-rescue system to support its growing coal industry. This research focused on the chain of decisions made by the state authorities to expand the mine-rescue stations network across the USSR. The authors used the examples of mine-rescue stations in Anzhero-Sudzhensk, Leninskiy, and Kemerovo to describe the formation and development of respiratory and supporting rescue teams. Archival sources made it possible to restore the quantitative composition, wage system, and funding sources of the Kuzbass mine-rescue service in July 1, 1924, as well as to identify the first management team. The mine-rescue development followed the expansion of the coal industry under the efficient state control provided by the centralized mining supervision. By the beginning of the second five-year industrial plan, Kuzbass was responsible for 8.5 % of the total mine-rescue stations in the country. The Kuzbass region owed its wide and efficient network of mine-rescue stations to the financial and organizational support of the state.

我国是油料进口与消费大国，油料自给率低、严重依赖进口。当前地缘政治矛盾的加剧与贸易政策的不确定性令国际农产品市场出现动荡，我国油料贸易面临着错综复杂的国际环境。在油料进口量持续增加、对外依存度不断提高的背景下，分析目前我国油料进口贸易的总量特征，以及以大豆、油菜籽、花生为代表的大宗油料和以芝麻、葵花籽、亚麻籽为代表的特色油料的产品结构特征与国别特征，并进一步对大宗油料商品和特色油料商品的进口贸易特征及未来发展趋势作出判断。针对当前我国油料供给面临的国内外约束与风险，应大幅提升油料增产保供能力，积极拓展油料进口渠道，减少对贸易争端国的进口依存度，建立和完善油料安全预警系统与应急机制，从而促进我国油料产业的高质量发展，保障油料安全。China is a big importer and consumer of oilseeds, but the self-sufficiency rate of oilseeds is low and relies heavily on imports. At present, the aggravation of the geopolitical contradictions and the uncertainty of the trade policy make the international agricultural products market turbulent, and the oilseeds trade of China is facing a complex international environment. Under the background of increasing oilseeds import volume and increasing dependence on foreign countries, the characteristics of total volume of oilseeds import trade at present, the product structure characteristics and country characteristics of bulk oilseeds represented by soybean, rapeseed and peanut, and characteristic oilseeds represented by sesame, sunflower seed and flaxseed were analyzed. Furthermore, the import trade characteristics and future development trend of bulk oilseeds and characteristic oilseeds were judged respectively. In view of the current domestic and foreign constraints and risks of oilseeds supply, we should greatly improve the capacity of oilseeds production increase and supply assurance, actively expand oilseeds import channels, reduce the dependence on imports from countries with trade disputes, establish and perfect oilseeds safety early warning system and emergency mechanism, so as to promote the high-quality development of oilseeds industry and ensure oilseeds safety.

In the life of companies operating with hazardous substances, the daily task is to maintain the safety on a high level and to introduce actions to increase safety performance. The companies covered by the Disaster Prevention Act have a special task, to operate a safety management system that also satisfies industrial safety aspects. To make this as efficient as possible, good practices from other safety management systems can be built into the currently used management system at the company. Perhaps the most frequently operated safety management systems for organizations producing and processing hazardous substances are the Occupational Health and Safety Management according to the ISO 45001 standard and the Process Safety Management systems. A comparison of the latter with what is required by law points to several points that may designate areas for improvement in the certified safety management system. In this way, they provide a basis for the development of a new system, that complying with the prescribed requirements, helps to maintain a high level of safety, to prevent the occurrence of accidents, and to work with safety-conscious employees and suppliers.

The human-centric approach is a leading trend for future production processes, and collaborative robotics are key to its realization. This article addresses the challenge of designing a new custom-made non-conventional machine or robot involving toolpath control (interpolated axes) with collaborative functionalities but by using “general-purpose standard” safety and motion control technologies. This is conducted on a non-conventional cable-driven parallel robot (CDPR). Safety is assured by safe commands to individual axes, known as safe motion monitoring functionalities, which limit the axis’s speed in the event of human intrusion. At the same time, the robot’s motion controller applies an override to the toolpath speed to accommodate the robot’s path speed to the limitations of the axes. The implementation of a new Pre-Warning Zone prevents unnecessary stops due to the approach of the human operator. The article also details a real experiment that validates the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Objectives: Work-related accidents as one of the most prominent indicators of safety and health in the industry play an undeniable role in developing and improving the quality of industrial health management. Therefore, their accurate analysis on a large scale is essential. To provide controlling solutions, we aimed to investigate the causes of occupational accidents in Iran for 10 years (2007-2017). Methods: At first, the reports of 10-year work-related accidents were taken from the Social Security Organization, then classified, and entered into SPSS software, version 18.0. Analyses were performed in two stages. Descriptive analyses were initially performed and then multivariate Cox regression was implemented to determine the significance of the effects of the identified factors. Accordingly, six parameters including the cause of the occurrence, gender, type of insurance, time of the accident, marital status, and type of accident were extracted as the effective factors. Next, the effect of each parameter was examined using multivariate Cox regression with a 95% confidence interval. Results: The findings showed that falls and slips (18.3%) and physical strikes (14.6%) were the most common causes of accidents, and carelessness (61.9%) and equipment density (21.1%) had the strongest impact on accidents. In last decade, many Cyber Physical Systems CPSs for occupational safety have been developedwithin research programs funded by national and transnational bodies. Many of them are now readyfor the market. The paper focuses on the industrial sectors, where the safety of the worker and thesafety of machines, equipment and processes are linked each other. The papers proposes to safetymanagers criteria and suggestions for choosing appropriate CPS for seizing the great opportunitiesfor safety improvement. The paper discusses a few issues, including cybersecurity and privacy, whichare critical for a successful implementation of the CPSs in occupational safety. Safety ManagementSystem SMS, in particular, must be adequate to collect the amount of data generated by many sensorsdistributed in work ambient and worn by workers.

This article discusses the issues of assessing the level of industrial safety of enterprises in terms of the efficiency of industrial enterprises, requiring an increase in production efficiency, ensuring the efficiency of products and services by mastering the ways of effective production management, the achievements of scientific and technological progress. Purpose: The article discusses key performance indicators as methods of industrial safety of an enterprise and a tool for analyzing and evaluating the level of a company’s performance. Method, methodology of the work: The article used theoretical materials, economic and mathematical methods, statistical methods of analysis. Results: The most informative parameters were obtained, showing some aspects of the analysis of key performance indicators of industrial enterprises. Scope of the results: The results obtained can be successfully applied in different areas of the economy for different economic entities, it is possible to use both for young firms and for organizations with sufficient experience.

Steel mills, due to the used chemical substances of combustible, toxic and explosive properties as well as because of the many other threats to the environment, human and property – must ensure the industrial safety. Therefore, it should cover actions minimising the occurrence probability and limiting the importance of threats and their effects. In the study, one has presented the scheme of solutions within the range of safe realisation of the processes and loss prevention, concerning both: technical aspects of used technological and measurement control devices as well as the organisational aspects of processes realisation. For the chosen threats one has proposed actions for prevention, protection and limitation realised as technological and organisational layers of protection, which can be applied in the regular conditions as well as during dangerous event.

Real-time object detection is currently used to automate various tasks in industrial environments. One of the most important tasks is to improve the safety of workers by monitoring the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in dangerous areas. In this context, usually, a monitoring system analyzes the stream of videos from surveillance cameras to assess PPE usage in real time. When a worker not wearing the appropriate PPE is detected, an acoustic or visual alarm is triggered automatically to raise attention and awareness. The solutions proposed so far are mostly cloud-based systems: images from the site are continuously offloaded to the cloud for analysis. This centralized architecture requires significant network bandwidth to transmit the video feeds through an internet connection that must be reliable, as a network outage would disrupt the service. In this work, we propose a system for real-time PPE detection based on video streaming analysis and Deep Neural Network (DNN). We adopt the edge computing model in which the application for image analysis and classification is deployed on an embedded system installed in proximity of the camera and directly connected to it. The system does not require continuous image transmission towards a cloud system, thus ensuring bandwidth efficiency, reliability, and workers’ privacy. A prototype of the proposed system is developed exploiting a low-cost commercial embedded system, i.e. a Raspberry PI, equipped with an Intel Neural Compute Stick 2. We tested the system with five different pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs), fine-tuned to detect different PPEs, namely helmets, vests, and gloves. In our experimental evaluation, we first compared the five CNNs in terms of classification performance and inference latency. Then, we deployed each CNN on the real system and evaluated the system’s throughput regarding the number of video frames analyzed each second.

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) aims to achieve higher operational and management efficiencies by bridging machinery, equipment, human resources, and all other actors involved in an industrial environment. This bridging enables data flow over an often complex and heterogeneous communication network. It enables timely decision-making, which affects various aspects of the organization such as business, operations, maintenance, safety, stock, and logistics. Despite the plethora of works in the domain of IIoT dealing with the above aspects, very few works deal with safety in industries. Industrial safety, especially whenever it is intertwined with the safety of humans, is a critical domain and holds much scope for improvement in the context of IIoT-based solutions for industrial safety management. Through this survey, we provide a comprehensive overview of the safety issues prevalent in the industries. Subsequently, we classify and provide an in-depth analysis of the safety aspects in various application areas of IIoT such as healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, and mining. Finally, we examine the research gaps in various domains and recommend future research directions. We discuss diverse forms of technologies, prototypes, systems, models, methods, and applications to ensure the safety of individuals and the risks associated with them. The primary aim of this work is to analyze and synthesize the existing researches and acknowledge the applicability of these research works towards safety management using IIoT.

Background: The safety climate shows the attitude and general perception of the organization’s management regarding safety. This study investigates the impact of safety training on the safety climate of operational employees working in the West Oil and Gas Company. Materials and Methods: This study is quasi-experimental interventional research, which was conducted in the first half of 2019 in West Oil and Gas Production Company with a pretest-posttest design. The study population included all workers in the operational departments of The West Oil and Gas Production Company. The sampling was done randomly with 240 people. The study questionnaire included a demographic information questionnaire and the safety climate questionnaire of “the safety organization of England.” The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by safety professors, and its reliability was obtained at 0.84 using the Cronbach α coefficient. Results: The mean score of safety climate components before the intervention was 2.65, and after the educational intervention reached 3.66. The safety improvement had the highest score among the components of the safety climate. Also, the lowest mean score of the component before the intervention was related to the violation of safety rules, which had the lowest mean score after the intervention of the licensing system. Conclusion: Educational intervention improved the safety climate in West Oil and Gas Production Company, so safety training plays a vital role in increasing the safety climate in the oil and gas industries.

In this research, we present a prototype optical system that offers significant advances in detecting hydrochloric acid (HCl) and ammonia (NH3) vapors. The system utilizes a natural pigment sensor based on Curcuma longa that is securely attached to a glass surface support. Through extensive development and testing with HCl (37% aqueous solution) and NH3 (29% aqueous solution) solutions, we have successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of our sensor. To facilitate the detection process, we have developed an injection system that exposes C. longa pigment films to the targeted vapors. The interaction between the vapors and the pigment films triggers a distinct color change, which is then analyzed by the detection system. By capturing the transmission spectra of the pigment film, our system allows a precise comparison of these spectra at different concentrations of the vapors. Our proposed sensor exhibits remarkable sensitivity, allowing the detection of HCl at a concentration of 0.009 ppm using only 100 µL (2.3 mg) of pigment film. In addition, it can detect NH3 at a concentration of 0.03 ppm with a 400 µL (9.2 mg) pigment film. Integrating C. longa as a natural pigment sensor in an optical system opens up new possibilities for detecting hazardous gases. The simplicity and efficiency of our system, combined with its sensitivity, make it an attractive tool in environmental monitoring and industrial safety applications.

Labour protection issues, especially in a large enterprise, are key components of the social and labour sphere, which significantly affect the performance of the entire enterprise. In modern economic conditions, where every enterprise is focused on producing competitive, high-quality goods and making a profit, maintaining the health and efficiency of each employee is a priority. Any socially oriented enterprise is primarily interested in reducing the level of accidents, injuries, industrial-related, and occupational diseases of employees. The purpose of the study is to determine and evaluate the role of labour protection and industrial safety within effective management system development and enterprise activities. In the course of the study, the method of comparison, analogy, formalisation, structural analysis, and dialectical method of cognition were used. As a result of the study, it was determined that the modern labour protection should be aimed at effective management of industrial safety of all technological processes and taking into account international standards, in particular OHSAS 18001, ISO 4501, ISO 9001, which is the basis of effective enterprise management as a whole and contributes to the identification and prevention of adverse factors and, as a result, minimises injuries and occupational diseases, loss of life, influences health and working capacity in general

The demand for collaborative robots is growing in industrial environments due to their versatility and low prices. Thus, more collaborative solutions are emerging for industrial scenarios. However, implementing scenarios where robots work autonomously while synchronizing their operations in a safe industrial environment with shopfloor workers is not easy. To fill the gap existing in the safe implementation of industrial collaborative scenarios, this manuscript presents a review based on five identified challenges that gathers the primary vital aspects to bear in mind while developing applications for them. Thus, a four-level classification is proposed, which collects the identified challenges and the previous developments in the field of human-robot interaction. The five identified challenges pretends to be the missing enabling key for implementing industrial collaborative scenarios in modern industrial plants. Lastly, a discussion and conclusion are exposed to analyze the degree of development in the field and its potential growth.

The aim of this study is to study engineering safety at an industrial facility. The subject of the study is dangerous and harmful factors of production, which include dust and harmful gases. The objectives of the study is assessing the dispersed composition of dust, which determines the microclimate of the working area on the example of a foundry. The presence of fine dust in the air space of the workshop leads to occupational diseases, such as pneumoconiosis (silicosis), bronchitis, dermatitis, conjunctivitis. The dust dispersion assessment took into account the relationship between the particle size and the speed of movement under the action of gravitational or centrifugal forces. The granulometric composition of the provided powder sample was determined by laser diffraction, implemented on the Fritsch NanoTec “ANALISETTE 22” laser particle analyzer. Data analysis shows that almost all phases of the technological process determine the microclimate of the internal environment and in the inter-hull zone during emission dispersion. The degree of exposure depends on the dispersion and chemical composition of the dust, in particular, in the air, the dust is oxidized to form a SiO2 film. In addition, there are other harmful substances in the workshop air that can be deposited on dust particles, which makes dust more dangerous and in this case it is necessary to take into account more stringent values of maximum permissible concentrations (MPC). An increase in the SiO2 content tightens the requirements for the cleanliness of the air in the working area. In the work, on the basis of theoretical and experimental data, the most dangerous areas with the formation of industrial dust from the standpoint of environmental risk were identified, the dust dispersion was assessed, the dust collection system was finalized, and a wet cleaning system was installed.

Over the past decade, general and specific domestic and international legislation establishing of and related to disaster protection has been adopted. The purpose of the regulations is to ensure protection of human life and health and of the environment of facilities. In this article the general industrial safety authority as one of the pillars of the authority’s tasks is presented, as well as the relevant legal provisions with regard to the scope constraints.

During the operation of main pipelines, many defects occur in the body of the pipe and on its surface. The main method for eliminating such defects is cutting out the defective section and welding a new one in its place. The cutting process is complicated by the possible sharp displacement of the ends of the pipeline located on both sides of the cutting site, which is dangerous for the lives of workers and can lead to breakage of the cutting equipment. In addition, to weld a new section, it is necessary to center the ends of the pipeline until they reach the alignment position, for which heavy, difficult-to-transport pipelayers are used, which allow centering the ends of the pipeline only by lifting them. Ensuring the possibility of such centering often requires additional digging of the repaired pipeline. Moreover, due to the large dimensions of pipelayers, payment of permits for their transportation is required. In addition, before transportation, pipelayers require their disassembly and assembly before carrying out repair work, which entails additional time and labor costs. To solve the problems described in this article, a developed design of devices for fixing and centering the ends of the pipeline is proposed, which makes it possible to fix the ends of the pipeline from their sharp displacement, and also to center them before welding a new section. A mathematical model was developed to assess the centering forces, the resulting stresses in the pipeline wall and the reaction forces that arise in the hydraulic cylinders of devices when leaving the ends of the pipeline in their sharp displacement. The initial data for the developed model are the coefficients of the polynomial describing the position of the pipeline in the repair trench. To accurately assess the position of the pipeline, a method of its laser scanning is proposed, the result of which is a point cloud of the pipeline. As part of the study, a method was also developed for the obtaining of a polynomial equation describing the bending of its central axis from a pipeline point cloud. As a result of experimental studies, this method has demonstrated sufficient accuracy in determining the position of the pipeline in the repair trench. Thus, the developed repair method makes it possible to increase both the safety of the repair and the technological and economic efficiency of the process of replacing a defective section.

As industries are becoming increasingly self-regulatory, external auditing has become increasingly important to ensure that industrial practices are in line with regulations and the public good. This study asks if there is a fit between the industrial practices of safety management and external auditing. It concludes that while companies largely manage safety through operational-level experience and with a low level of formalisation, the audits have a primary focus on formal documentation and gathering audit evidence at the strategic and tactical levels in the organizations. This limits the effectiveness of auditing as a tool both for learning and regulating safety management.

The article analyzes well-known semantic interpretations of the term "human factor" in the context of the evolutionary development of the safety component in "man-machine-environment" systems. It has been ascertained that single, recognized by law term "human factor" still does not exists, but the majority of researchers attribute this phenomenon to the human psycho-physiological reaction to changes in the environment. It is noted that this approach is erroneous because the manifestations of "human factor" at the individual level of each person should be considered in the context of the features of its three main components - biological, social and informational. The trends of the evolutionary development of the technosphere and the analysis of statistical data on occupational accidents, as well as industrial breakdowns and disasters, prove the need to introduce positive changes at the level of the "human factor" components. First of all, it concerns the information component, as the development of technologies over the past decade is far ahead of the level of training in the field of occupational safety, which does not allow maintaining the required level of occupational safety and labor culture in the conditions of a new range of previously unknown hazardous and harmful production factors. It was emphasized that necessary positive changes in the components of the "human factor" should be implemented as a part of the concept of sustainable humanity development, which provides for the development of three interrelated areas: economic, social and spiritual growth of society. Thus, basic directions that will minimize the negative effects of the "human factor" within functioning of the future complex systems "man machine-environment", are to increase the level of motivation for safe human behavior at production facilities and to form safety priorities over economic outcomes of enterprise’s activity. The possibility to implement such directions directly depends on the implementation of the relevant reforms in the system of secondary, vocational and higher education, as well as occupational safety and industrial safety regulatory framework in Ukraine.

Abstract. The economy of Ukraine is constantly in conditions of instability and uncertainty of further development, therefore, the problem of restoring an acceptable level of economic security of the state seems to be urgent. The essential aspects of theoretical and methodological approaches to a comprehensive assessment of the level of economic security are the subject of numerous scientific studies, but they do not focus on the mechanism of practical management, which should provide acceptable values of the estimated indicators. The special role of individual indicators, their interrelation, interdependence and the priority of observing their level for the stabilization and development of the economy is substantiated. The analysis of industrial and investment and innovation security made it possible to determine their state as unsatisfactory (at the same time, according to some indicators, the situation is characterized as dangerous, approaching to critical level); the problem of unsatisfactory management of economic security in Ukraine is identified. To create an effective management system for the country’s economic security is proposed: to improve the methodology for calculating its level (differentiation of weight coefficients, application the criteria for destimulating assessments for indicators of investment and innovation security); to change its status to compulsory, not recommendatory; to provide reporting of the necessary statistical data and include it in the list (register) of open data sets that are subject to publication; to conduct continuous monitoring of indicators status of economic security; to identify trends in changes and identify problem segments; to develop socio-economic plans (programs) taking into account the criteria of economic security; to formulate tasks, authorities, responsibility and organize interaction of executive authorities in order to achieve the target level of state economic security. Further research is advisable to conduct not only in the direction of improving the methodology for assessing economic security, but also creating an organizational mechanism for managing the state economic security, which should ensure an acceptable level of all indicators of its assessment. Building a balanced system of economic security management in Ukraine and its practical implementation is a guarantee and at the same time a necessity for the successful economic development of Ukraine. The article analyzes a semantic meaning of the term "sustainable development" followed by its proper interpretation. It has been determined that in recent years, the number of natural and man-made disasters has increased rapidly due to the processes of technogenic environment expansion, the active growth of our planet population and large-scale urbanization. It is established that in recent decades the number of major man-made disasters consistently exceeds the number of natural ones. In the structure of man-made disasters (among industrial, transport and mixed), the largest number of victims and material damage were induced by industrial disasters. Definition of the main principle of sustainable development was interpreted. It is concluded that trends of the modern human development model directly contradict the above principle. The known studies were reviewed concerning directions of the humanity’s sustainable development concept realization globally and in Ukraine, as well as to the role of labor protection and industrial safety within the above process. The evolutionary development of labor protection has been provided as a science from ancient times to the present, as well as the contribution of great scientists to the development of labor protection and industrial safety. Modern trends of professional risks and man-made hazards in Ukraine, in particular, in the flour grinding industry and the world are analyzed. Based on the analysis, it was determined that currently a particular danger is the comprehensive application (availability, trafficking) of chemicals in all without exception workplaces feed mills, grain mills, flour mills and other enterprises of our country, as well as the large-scale use of pesticides of the first and second class of hazard. Another concern is the fact that modern personal protective equipment is not able to protect people from fine particles of chemicals (size 1 – 100 nanometers (nm), widely applied in modern industries thanks to the comprehensive use of nanotechnology in the world. It has been established that 4.4% of world stocks of unsuitable for use pesticides are accumulated in the territory of Ukraine. An increase in the number of chemicals in the air of the working area during the technological processes at the enterprises of the flour-grinding industry has caused 86% of all deaths associated with professional human activities. The leading role of labor protection as a necessary element of ensuring the implementation of the sustainable development concept in the world is indicated. Main modern problems of labor protection development as a science in Ukraine are defined and promising ways of their solution are offered.

Given the application of the methods of analysis of types and consequences of failures (FMEA analysis) to assess the technical risk of occurrence of emergency situations during the operation of the lifting mechanism electrical hook bridge crane. The technique allows to identify the limiting elements and to determine the significance of effects in the design of the lifting mechanism, to develop measures to reduce the risk of the occurrence of an emergency.

In the conditions of the Verkhnekamskoe field of potassium and magnesium salts unconventional in terms of thickness sylvinite seams are involved in the mining. That requires methodological support and new technological solutions. One of the possible directions in the excavation of sylvinite seams of unconventional thickness is the use of drilling and blasting. A method for calculating the safe geomechanical parameters of the chamber development pattern was developed in order to justify the possibility of drilling and blasting excavation of sylvinite seams of unconventional thickness. The paper presents theoretical calculations for determination of the parameters of a chamber development pattern taking into account the requirements of current regulatory documents. That ensures geomechanical safety during drilling and blasting mining of sylvinite seams of unconventional thickness as well as during mining of sylvinite seams of unconventional thickness in combination with mashinery mining of seams with conventional thickness. Two options of drilling and blasting mining of sylvinite layers depending on the mining and geological conditions of development, are considered in the paper. The first option considers drilling and blasting excavation by the chamber pattern of one sylvinite seam of unconventional thickness. The second option considers drilling and blasting mining of an unconventional sylvinite reservoir together with a machinery mining of adjacent sylvinite layers that have conventional thickness. Minimum allowable size of the production chamber in the drilling and blasting mining of sylvinite seams of unconventional thickness, design and actual parameters of chambers and inter-chamber blocks are justified according to the requirements of regulatory documents. The procedure for calculation of sizes of the cleaning chambers in drilling and blasting mining and inter-chamber blocks in the joint excavation of sylvinite layers of conventional and unconventional thickness. The method for determination of safe parameters of blasting operations providing the permissible value of the fracturing zone in the soil and roof of the cleaning chambers mined by the drilling and blasting method is presented. Calculations have been performed to determine the fracture radius based on the calculation of explosion pulse and dynamic strength of the salt rocks. Determination of the allowable weight of explosion is done using the value of the displacement speed of the particles in the array. As a result of the studies performed, the safe parameters of drilling and blasting mining of one sylvinite layer with unconventional thickness by the chamber pattern and the sylvinite formation of unconventional thickness together with longwall machinery mining of conventional formation at the mines of Verkhnekamskoe field of potassium and magnesium salts.

A laboratory-scale chamber is convenient for combustion scenarios in the practical analysis of industrial explosions and devices such as internal combustion engines. The safety risks in hazardous areas can be assessed and managed during accidents. Increased hydrogen usage in renewable energy production requires increased attention to the safety issues since hydrogen produces higher explosion overpressures and flame speed and can cause more damage than methane or propane. This paper reports numerical simulation of turbulent hydrogen combustion and flame propagation in the University of Sydney's small-scale combustion chamber. It is used for the investigation of turbulent premixed propagating flame interaction with several solid obstacles. Obstructions in the direction of flow cause a complex flame front interaction with the turbulence generated ahead of it. For numerical analysis, OpenFOAM CFD software was chosen, and a custom-built turbulent combustion solver based on the progress variable model—flameFoam—was used. Numerical results for validation purposes show that the pressure behaviour and flame propagation obtained using RANS and TFC models were well reproduced. The interaction between larger-scale flow features and flame dynamics was obtained corresponding to the experimental or mode detailed LES modelling results from the literature. The analysis revealed that as the propagating flame reached and interacted with obstacles and the recirculation wake was created behind solid obstacles, leaving traces of an unburned mixture. The expansion of flames due to narrow vents generates turbulent eddies, which cause wrinkling of the flame front.

Emergency events in the industrial sector have been increasingly reported during the past decade. However, studies that focus on emergency evacuation to improve industrial safety are still scarce. Existing evacuation-related studies also lack a perspective of fire assembly point’s analysis. In this research, location of assembly points is analyzed using the multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) technique based on the integrated information entropy weight (IEW) and techniques for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to support the fire evacuation plan. Next, we propose a novel simulation model that integrates fire dynamics simulation coupled with agent-based evacuation simulation to evaluate the impact of smoke and visibility from fire on evacuee behavior. Factors related to agent and building characteristics are examined for fire perception of evacuees, evacuees with physical disabilities, escape door width, fire location, and occupancy density. Then, the proposed model is applied to a case study of a home appliance factory in Chachoengsao, Thailand. Finally, results for the total evacuation time and the number of remaining occupants are statistically examined to suggest proper evacuation planning.

The purpose of the article is to developing the information security of the automated system for monitoring the state of industrial safety of the gas transportation system within the framework of the safety management system, which will enable timely and objective detection of adverse accident hazards (hazardous events) and taking the necessary specific measures to eliminate them and operate the gas transport system safely. It is proved that the basis of the information provision of the automated system for monitoring the state of the industrial safety of the gas transmission system is a methodology that includes the following basic procedures: identifying hazards; qualitative and quantitative assessment of emergencies; establishing of unacceptable (unallowable) risks and their introduction to the information base (register) of unacceptable risks of objects of the gas transportation system; comprehensive assessment and certification of the state of industrial safety of objects of the gas transportation system; identification of effective, productive (efficient) risk management measures. The prospect of further research in this area is the development and implementation of an automated system for monitoring the state of industrial safety of the objects of the gas transmission system based on the results of the research (of the submitted information provision).

Background: Despite the recent efforts to prevent industrial accidents in the Republic of Korea, the industrial accident rate has not improved much. Industrial safety policies and safety management are also known to be inefficient. This study focused on dynamic characteristics of industrial safety systems and their effects on safety performance in the Republic of Korea. Such dynamic characteristics are particularly important for restructuring of the industrial safety system. Methods: The effects of damping and elastic characteristics of the industrial safety system model on safety performance were examined and feedback control performance was explained in view of cost and benefit. The implications on safety policies of restructuring the industrial safety system were also explored. Results: A strong correlation between the safety budget and the industrial accident rate enabled modeling of an industrial safety system with these variables as the input and the output, respectively. A more effective and efficient industrial safety system could be realized by having weaker elastic characteristics and stronger damping characteristics in it. A substantial decrease in total social cost is expected as the industrial safety system is restructured accordingly. Conclusion: A simple feedback control with proportional–integral action is effective in prevention of industrial accidents. Securing a lower level of elastic industrial accident-driving energy appears to have dominant effects on the control performance compared with the damping effort to dissipate such energy. More attention needs to be directed towards physical and social feedbacks that have prolonged cumulative effects. Suggestions for further improvement of the safety system including physical and social feedbacks are also made.

Big data is now widely used in many fields and is also widely applied to the integration of disciplines. Traditional methods of safety psychology are not well suited for analyzing psychological states, especially in the management of human factors in industrial production. Also, big data now becomes a new way to excavate related insight by analyzing a large amount of psychological data. So, this paper is to propose the concept of big data of safety psychology (BDSP) and to illustrate the challenges of applying big data in safety psychology. First, this paper puts forward the concept of BDSP and analyzes the difference between BDSP and traditional sample data. Subsequently, this paper summarizes the classification standard and basic characteristic of BDSP, explores the framework of BDSP and then constructs a three-dimensional structure of BDSP. Lastly, this paper discusses the challenges of using BDSP. This study is of great help to safety practitioners to solve psychological issues in the safety domain, and points out one of the research trends of human factor in industrial safety.

Research and practical experience of operating oil and gas fields shows that the production of hydrocarbons produces a powerful anthropogenic impact on the geological environment, which leads to disruption of the stress-strain state of the field`s subsurface array. It is not seldom accompanied by well accidents, cross-flows, aquifers pollution, can create conditions for settling the Earth's surface to a subsequent breach of stability and operational reliability of the oil and gas technological arrangement. In order to ensure industrial safety of oil and gas facilities in the South Petiegskoie field a geodynamic testing ground was created for a long-term surveying and geodetic observations and multiple repeated observations of contemporary deformation processes. The results of the third cycle of high-precision geodetic measurements obtained by geometric leveling of the class II, for the period 2014-2016 years, revealed that a greater number of observation points of the geodynamic testing ground heights gained significant negative values. This indicates a stable process of Earth's surface subsidence over the undermined territories mainly in the western part of the field, in the zone of maximum fluid and oil production. A geodynamic risk zone was revealed in the region of the well pad №1. Analysis and interpretation of geodynamic monitoring results (leveling of the class II, satellite observations, high-precision gravimetry), operating field development parameters (anthropogenic impact) and specificity of the natural geological and tectonic conditions allowed to determine that the condition for the formation of vertical and horizontal ground deformation was natural and man-made factor. The correlation between the formation of the Earth's surface subsidence`s trough and density characteristic`s dynamics, accumulated oil production, reservoir pressures falling was revealed. Recommendations for the further conducting of geodynamic monitoring of the South Petiegskoie oil field were given.

A systematic probabilistic safety assessment for a boiling water nuclear reactor core is performed using fault trees and event trees analysis models. Based on a survey of the BWR’s safety systems against potential hazards, eight independent failure modes (initiating events) triggered scenarios are modelled and evaluated in the assembled fault-event trees, obtaining the two key outcome probabilities of interest, i.e., complete core meltdown (CCMD) frequency and minor core damage (MCD) frequency. The analysis results indicate that the complete loss of heat sink accounts for the initiating accident most vulnerable to CCMD (with a frequency of 1.8 × 10 − 5 per year), while the large break in the reactor pressure vessel is the least susceptible one (with a frequency of 2.9 × 10 − 12 per year). The quantitative risk assessment and independent review conducted in this case study contributed a reference reliability model for defense-in-depth core optimizations with reduced costs, informing risk-based policy decision making, licensing, and public understanding in nuclear safety systems.

Seismic impact of technological explosions on underground mining workings of the Magnezitovaya mine was assessed. Seismic stability of rocks of the Magnezitovaya mine was determined and safe distances from technological explosions have been calculated by the admissible seismic effect for rocks. URAN and Minimate Plus seismic recorders with three-component seismic receivers were used to establish the dynamic impact on the mine workings. Based on comparison of calculated values and experimental measurements, the recommendations are given for explosive mass limitation at a slowing-down stage at a level of minimum dangerous values for technological explosions in underground mine. It is established that the blasting operations carried out at the Magnezitovaya mine of PAO Magnezit Combine with fan longhole stopping were performed with the seismic impact safety of underground technological explosion and will not lead to the loss of rock mass stability near the underground workings. Relevance of these studies is to ensure industrial safety of underground mining operations.

I n the paper, according to the analysis of statistical data, correlation between the amount of occupational injuries and occupational diseases in Ukraine within last 5 years is defined. Also, using methodology of the International Labor Organization correlcation between the amount of accident fatalities and general number of accidents in Ukraine and EU countries (Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Hungry, Finland, France) is defined. It is shown that in spite of the positive dynamics of decreasing amount of occupational injuries, the number of occupational diseases in Ukraine always increases. The comparative analysis of the ratio of the number of accident fatalities to the total number of registered accidents showed that, on average, Ukraine exceeds the EU countries by this indicator by 100 times. It is noted, that such negative indicators (in particular, increasing amount of occupational diseases), may occure because of imperfect methodology for identifying the risks of professional dangerous. Also, it is ascertained that basing on the existed methodology, the identefication process of occupational dangerous is quite subjective, which reduces objectivity of conducting quantitative assessment. In order to eliminate defined drawnbacks it is first time proposed to use corresponding integral criterion to conduct the process of quantitative risk assessment To solve this problem authors formulate and propose an algorithm of improving methodology of a process of analysing dangerous and harmful production effects (DHPE) which are the mainest reasons of occupational dangerous. The proposed algorithm includes implementation of four following successive steps: DHPE identification, indication of their maximum allowed threshold of concentrations (levels), identification of the sources of identified DHPE, esimation of consequences of manifestation. The improved proposed methodology allows indentify risks of occurrence occupational dangerous in systems "humantechnical system-environment" even on the phase of its designing when dangerous and harmful manufactured factors are unknown yet.

Based on comparative analysis of the industrial accident causes in Ukraine and EU countries this article establishes that the main accident reasons are organizational ones (50 to 70% of the total number of cases), however such indicators as the registered in Ukraine fatal cases frequency coefficient (per 1 thousand of employees) and the fatal accidents-total accidents number ratio are greater than the similar indicators in Europe by about 2- and 100-fold, respectively. It is noted that the issues of improving the work safety in Ukraine towards the association with the European Union should be considered in the context of two main planes, which are associated with changes in the legislative and educational systems. Within this article, the authors analyse the main inter-sectoral and sectoral regulatory legal acts on labour protection, in particular in the field of providing for fire, explosion and electrical safety, and relevant documents relating to the creation and maintenance of a comfortable environment at work. Based on the conducted analysis, the problems of adapting the national legislation in the field of labour protection and industrial safety to the legal framework of EU, the problems concerning the unsystematic character and selective approach to the implementation of appropriate changes, and potential hazards that can occur at all stages of the life cycle of technical systems in the event of their introduction are determined. The main differences in the systematic approach to the professional training of students in higher educational institutions (HEI) of Ukraine and EU countries (Poland, for example) in the field of labour protection and industrial safety are singled out. It is noted that in the Republic of Poland numbering the population correlative with Ukraine the quantity of special educational institutions preparing specialists in the field of labour protection in relation to the total number of higher educational establishment is 1.9 fold greater than the corresponding figure in Ukraine, and the number of subjects with regard to the issues of the labour protection and industrial safety, which are taught to students in fulfilling the work programmes at nonspecialised Polish higher educational establishments is greater than that in Ukrainian several fold. Within the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Location of Things (LoT) service, this paper presents an interactive tool to quantitatively analyze the performance of cooperative localization techniques for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In these types of algorithms, nodes help each other determine their location based on some signal metrics such as time of arrival (TOA), received signal strength (RSS), or a fusion of them. The developed tool is intended to provide researchers and designers a fast way to measure the performance of localization algorithms considering specific network topologies. Using TOA or RSS models, the Crámer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) has been implemented within the tool. This lower bound can be used as a benchmark for testing a particular algorithm for specific channel characteristics and WSN topology, which allows determination if the necessary accuracy for a specific application is possible. Furthermore, the tool allows us to consider independent characteristics for each node in the WSN. This feature allows the avoidance of the typical “disk graph model,” which is usually applied to test cooperative localization algorithms. The tool allows us to run Monte-Carlo simulations and generate statistical reports. A set of basic illustrative examples are described comparing the performance of different localization algorithms and showing the capabilities of the presented tool.

Background: Nowadays, organizations try to improve their services and consequently adopt management systems and standards which have become key parts in various industries. One of these management systems which have been noticed in the recent years is Integrated Management System that is the combination of quality, health, safety and environment management systems. Aim: This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the improvement trend after establishment of integrated management system for health, safety and environment indicators, in a pharmaceutical industry in Iran. Materials and Methods: First, during several inspections in different parts of the industry, indicators that should have been noted were listed and then these indicators were organized in 3 domains of health, safety and environment in the form of a questionnaire that followed Likert method of scaling. Also, the weight of each index was resulted from averaging out of 30 managers and the viewpoints of the related experts in the field. Moreover, by checking the documents and evidence of different years (5 contemplation years of this study), the score of each indicator was determined by multiplying the weight and score of the indices and were finally analysed. Results: Over 5 years, scores of health scope indicators, increased from 161.99 to 202.23. Score in the first year after applying the integrated management system establishment was 172.37 in safety part and in the final year increased to 197.57. The changes of environmental scope rates, from the beginning of the program up to the last year increased from 49.24 to 64.27. Conclusion: Integrated management systems help organizations to improve programs to achieve their objectives. Although in this study all trends of health, safety and environmental indicator changes were positive, but at the same time showed to be slow. So, one can suggest that the result of an annual evaluation should be applied in planning future activities for the years ahead.

"In the article there was outlined the role of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the formation of a new approach to the companies’ activity assessment in the Ukrainian business environment. There has been given qualitative and quantitative analysis, determined the principle developments of the present period of formation, establishment and development of the domestic CSR model in Ukraine. There was made an evolutional research analysis in the sphere of CSR in Ukraine and laid out the results of the author’s research of domestic business practice of CSR which allow to specify the main tendencies of its development and application in the formation of the framework constituent structure of the national CSR model."

At the beginning of June 2007 the Faculty of Safety Engineering founded the Czech Technology Platform on Industrial Safety o.s. (CZ-TPIS). The 1st meeting of the General Assembly launched the activity of this national platform in accordance with the already operating European Technology Platform on Industrial Safety (ETPIS).
