The potential energy surface describing the interaction of the SH+ ion in its ground X3Σ− electronic state with molecular hydrogen has been computed through restricted coupled cluster calculations including single, double, and (perturbative) triple excitations [RCCSD(T)], with the assumption of fixed bond lengths. The computed points were fit to an analytical form suitable for time-independent quantum scattering calculations of rotationally inelastic cross sections and rate coefficients. Representative sets of energy dependent state-to-state rotationally inelastic cross sections and rate coefficients are presented and discussed. Managing risk is one of the main activities of venture capital companies. Despite the fact that this topic is of high practical relevance, only little research was published on risk management performed by venture capital companies in their ventures. Hence, we conducted a structured literature review which was the basis for developing five hypotheses concerning measures to decrease failure risk in venture capital-backed ventures. We tested these hypotheses with an empirical data set of 93 venture capital- backed ventures in Germany using original deal data from nine different venture capital funds using a structural equation model. We showed that the experience and the skills of the corresponding investment manager have a significant negative impact on the failure risk of a venture. Investment manager's experience and skills were measured by the working and founding experience, the technology expertise and the network size. Hence, the results emphasize the importance of the selection of the investment manager for risk management in venture capital investments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main purpose of this paper is to analyse whether research spin-offs, that is, spin-offs from either public research institutes or universities, have greater innovation capabilities than comparable knowledge-intensive firms created in other ways. Using a sample of about 2,800 firms from highly innovative sectors, propensity score matching is used to create a sample group of control firms that is comparable to the group of spin-offs. The article provides evidence that the 121 research spin-offs investigated have more patent applications and more radical product innovations, on average, compared to similar firms. The results also show that research spin-offs' superior innovation performance can be explained by their high level of research cooperation and by location factors. An urban region location and proximity to the parent institution are found to be conducive to innovation productivity. The article also finds evidence that research spin-offs are more successful in attracting support from public innovation support programmes in comparison to their peers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Taking the implications of the cohesion policy framework for innovation governance as a starting point, it is the objective of this paper to discuss the challenges for regional policy-making with regard to a policy mix that is new to regional policy-makers. Based on two German regions representing “convergence” and “competitive and employment” regions it will be discussed how regional policy-makers can deal with this new policy approach and what could be the appropriate strategies, programmes and learning tools. What can be seen from both the Bavarian and the Saxony case studies is that the two regions apply a broad mix of different innovation policy measures, supporting all innovation policy tasks with relevance to the regional development. In both regions, innovation policy is not a new task, but Saxony as well as Bavaria can look back to a quite a long tradition in the implementation of this policy. Differences exist with regard to policy-learning in a way that, due the longer innovation policy experiences of Bavaria, more sophisticated structures and activities can be found in this federal state.
