We systematically reviewed the incidence of complications and outcomes of different surgical methods for acute perilunate injury in the MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane Library databases. Forty-three articles with 880 patients were included. The most common complications were arthritis (30%), carpal instability (15%), avascular necrosis of the lunate (12%), complex regional pain syndrome (11%), and nonunion or avascular necrosis of the scaphoid (9%). In the meta-analysis, the mean scapholunate gap was 1.7 mm in the closed surgery group and 2.3 mm in the open surgery group, which was a statistically significant difference. The mean flexion–extension arc of the wrist and modified Mayo wrist score were better in the closed surgery group than in the open surgery group. However, these findings may relate to different cohorts in terms of injury severity. Therefore, the causal relationship between closed surgery and better outcomes may be uncertain as less severe subluxations are more likely to be treated closed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The relationship between retear that may occur after rotator cuff repair and patient satisfaction is not well established. This study aimed to determine whether the types and size of the retear evaluated by computed tomography arthrography (CTA) influenced patient satisfaction. We also analyzed the patient factors that could affect patient satisfaction. Patients and methods: A total of 50 patients who were diagnosed with rotator cuff retear after undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were included in this study. All the patients were dichotomously classified into the satisfactory or dissatisfactory groups according to the patients' self-classifications. CTA was used to assess the attachment status of the footprint, detect retear on the medial side of the footprint of the repaired cuff, and determine the retear size. Demographic factors, including sex, age, occupation, dominant upper extremity, duration of pain, presence of diabetes mellitus, trauma history, history of ipsilateral shoulder surgery, repair technique, worker's compensation status, and functional shoulder score, were investigated. Results: Thirty-nine patients were classified into the satisfactory group and 11 patients were classified into the dissatisfactory group. There were no differences in age, sex, occupation, dominant hand, duration of pain, presence of diabetes mellitus, trauma history, history of ipsilateral shoulder surgery, repair technique, worker's compensation, and duration of follow-up between the two groups. However, the postoperative American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon (ASES) score (P < 0.01), visual analog scale (VAS) pain level (P < 0.01), anteroposterior (AP) length (P < 0.01), and area of the retear site (P < 0.01) were significantly different. Conclusion: The AP length and area of the retear site estimated using CTA were confirmed as the significant risk factors for dissatisfaction. However, the type of repaired rotator cuff judged by the attachment status of the footprint did not correlate with patient satisfaction. Background: Acromioclavicular joint fixation using a hook plate is effective for the treatment of acute acromioclavicular joint dislocation. However, several studies have reported some complications including loss of reduction after surgery for acromioclavicular joint dislocation. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with the loss of reduction after acromioclavicular joint dislocation surgery using a hook plate. Methods: This was a retrospective study that assessed 118 patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation, who were diagnosed between March 2013 and January 2019 and underwent surgical treatment using the hook plate (reduction loss group: n = 38; maintenance group: n = 80). The mean follow-up period was 29.9 months (range, 24–40 months). We assessed the range of motion, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score (ASES), visual analog scale score for pain, and a subjective shoulder value. Radiological assessment of coracoid clavicular distance was performed. The risk factors of reduction loss were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: Age (p = 0.049), sex (female, p = 0.03, odds ratio OR = 4.81), Rockwood type V (p = 0.049, OR = 2.20), and time from injury to surgery > 7 days (p = 0.018, OR = 2.59) were statistically significant factors in the reduction loss group. There were no significant differences in the clinical outcomes for range of motion, ASES, subjective shoulder value, and visual analog scale scores between the two groups. In the radiological results, preoperative coracoid clavicular distance (p = 0.039) and ratio (p = 0.001), and over-reduction (p = 0.023, OR = 0.40) were significantly different between the two groups. The multivariate logistic regression analysis identified the female sex (p = 0.037, OR = 5.88), a time from injury to surgery > 7 days (p = 0.019, OR = 3.36), and the preoperative coracoid clavicular displacement ratio of the injured shoulder (p < 0.001, OR = 1.03) as risk factors associated with reduction loss following surgery using a hook plate for acromioclavicular dislocation. Conclusion: A delayed timing of surgery > 7 days, preoperative coracoid clavicular displacement ratio of the injured shoulder, and female sex were identified as risk factors for loss of reduction after surgery using a hook plate for acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Purpose: To evaluate the objective and subjective long-term clinical outcomes of tendon transfer and tendon graft for extensor tendon ruptures in rheumatoid hands.Methods: We evaluated the long-term clinical outcomes of tendon transfer and tendon graft for extensor tendon ruptures in rheumatoid hands of 37 patients (43 hands) followed up for a mean of 14 years (range, 10-21 years).Results: The mean time from rupture to surgery was 13.1 weeks (range, 3-48 weeks). The mean extension lag of the metacarpophalangeal joint was 8.7° (range, 0-40°), the mean pulp-to-palm distance was 0.4 cm (range, 0-3 cm), and the mean overall satisfaction rate was 86.5 (range, 70-100). There were no significant differences in clinical outcomes between tendon transfers and tendon grafts. There was a significant correlation between extension lag of the metacarpophalangeal joint and overall satisfaction rate (R2 = 0.155; p = 0.009). Time to surgery was significantly correlated with extension lag of the metacarpophalangeal joint (R2 = 0.437; p = 0.001) in the tendon graft group.Conclusions: Both tendon transfer and tendon graft for extensor tendon ruptures in rheumatoid hands achieve satisfactory results that are maintained for an average of 14 years. Neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) in preterm infants has become of great interest. We aimed to investigate the impact of preterm birth on the proportion of NDD using nationwide data provided by the Korean National Health Insurance Service. We included 4894 extremely preterm or extremely low-birth-weight (EP/ELBW; <28 weeks of gestation or birth weight < 1000 g) infants, 70,583 other preterm or low-birth-weight (OP/LBW; 28–36 weeks of gestation or birth weight < 2500 g) infants, and 264,057 full-term infants born between 2008 and 2015. We observed their neurodevelopment until 6 years of age or until the year 2019, whichever occurred first. Diagnoses of NDDs were based on the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases 10th revision. An association between preterm birth and NDD was assessed using a multivariable logistic regression model. There was a stepwise increase in the risk of overall NDD with increasing degree of prematurity, from OP/LBW (adjusted odds ratio 4.46; 95% confidence interval 4.34–4.58), to EP/ELBW (16.15; 15.21–17.15). The EP/ELBW group was strongly associated with developmental delay (21.47; 20.05–22.99), cerebral palsy (88.11; 79.89–97.19), and autism spectrum disorder (11.64; 10.37–13.06). Purpose. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the joint fragment that mostly affects the outcome of the distal radius fracture surgically treated with a volar locking plate (VLP). Methods. The outcomes of 69 patients with the distal radius fractures were evaluated at their final follow-up. The articular surface was divided into six specific fragments, and computed tomography (CT) was used to evaluate the degree of mismatch of each fragments. A plain radiograph was also obtained for evaluation of the distal radius alignment. Clinical outcomes were measured by using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) and Modified Mayo Wrist Score (MMWS). Univariate analyses were performed, with subsequent multiple logistic regression analyses. Results. The mean follow-up period was 14.8 (range, 12 to 52) months. The group with a worse DASH score showed significantly greater mismatch in the volar and dorsal lunate facets, as well as the central depression of the distal radius (p = 0.042 , 0.031, and 0.023, respectively). There was a significant positive correlation between the DASH score and degree of mismatch of the dorsal lunate facet and central depression of the distal radius (p = 0.040 and 0.011, respectively). Groups with worse MMWS showed significantly greater mismatch in the dorsal lunate facet (p = 0.025). There was a significant negative correlation between MMWS and abnormal ulnar variance and mismatch of the dorsal lunate facet and central depression of the distal radius (p = 0.041 , 0.004, and 0.018, respectively). The result of multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that a mismatch of the dorsal lunate facet is a significant predictor for a worse MMWS (odds ratio = 3.072 , p = 0.043). Conclusions. Articular surface mismatch of the dorsal lunate facet appears to mostly affect the surgical outcomes of the distal radius fractures using VLP. This study aimed to compare the contact area, mean pressure, and peak pressure of the radiocapitellar joint (RCJ) in the upper limb after transradial amputation with those of the normal upper limb during elbow flexion and forearm rotation. Testing was performed using ten fresh-frozen upper limbs, and the transradial amputation was performed 5 cm proximal to the radial styloid process. The specimens were connected to a custom-designed apparatus for testing. A pressure sensor was inserted into the RCJ. The biomechanical indices of the RCJ were measured during elbow flexion and forearm rotation in all specimens. There was no significant difference in the contact area between the normal and transradial amputated upper limbs. However, in the upper limbs after transradial amputation, the mean pressure was higher than that in the normal upper limbs at all positions of elbow flexion and forearm rotation. The peak pressure was significantly higher in the upper limbs after transradial amputation than in the normal upper limbs, and was especially increased during pronation at 45° of elbow flexion. In conclusion, these results could cause cartilage erosion in the RCJ of transradial amputees. Purpose: Previous studies show no difference in clinical outcomes between patients with healed and structurally failed rotator cuff repairs. The objective of this study was to assess ceiling effects when reporting surgical outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using four of the currently most popular clinical shoulder outcome scoring systems.Methods: Ninety-two patients who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were examined. The simple shoulder test (SST), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) shoulder rating scale, and Constant-Murley shoulder score were completed 2 years postoperatively. Demographic data of the subjects were analysed using descriptive statistics. The ceiling effects in the outcome data assessed for each scale were estimated based on two previously reported definitions.Results: The number of patients with the maximum possible score was 31 (33.7%) with the SST, 26 (28.3%) with the ASES score, 28 (30.4%) with the UCLA scale, and 18 (19.6%) with the Constant-Murley score. The standardised distance of the outcome data assessed by the SST, ASES score, UCLA scale, and Constant-Murley scores were 0.92, 0.97, 0.96, and 1.18, respectively.Conclusion: The SST, ASES score, and UCLA scale evaluated at 2 years postoperatively have substantial ceiling effects showing that the proportion of patients with the maximum possible score is > 20%, and the standardised distance is < 1.0. Researchers should be aware of possible biases due to ceiling effects when interpreting the results of studies investigating the surgical outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Background: In patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), some problems might occur in fracture healing; however, clinical evidence is limited. Therefore, we compared the time to union and complication rate of femoral fractures between RA and non-RA patients. Materials and Methods: This study included 42 RA patients who underwent osteosynthesis for femoral trochanter or shaft fracture. For comparison with the RA group, 126 non-RA patients were selected as a control group. The RA group was divided into the trochanteric (RA group I) and shaft fracture group (RA group II) for comparison with each control group (control groups I and II). We analyzed risk factors for nonunion or delayed union and divided patients according to whether atypical or ordinary fracture in shaft fracture. Results: Time to union (p = 0.823) and complication rate (p = 0.440) did not differ significantly between RA group I and control group I. A significantly longer time to union (p = 0.001) and higher nonunion rate (p = 0.013) were observed in RA group II compared with control group II. The presence of RA (p = 0.040) and atypical femoral fracture (p = 0.006) were significant risk factors for nonunion or delayed union. Conclusions: The high prevalence of atypical femoral fracture among the femur shaft fractures in the RA patients was considered a significant risk factor for nonunion and delayed union. Portulaca oleracea L. is a traditional oriental medicine known for its pharmacological effects. The present study aimed to investigate the immunostimulatory effects of PPCE on cyclophosphamide-stimulated rat model and in isolated spleen cells. The result showed that PPCE exerted an immunostimulatory effect in vivo and in vitro. Specifically, PPCE significantly enhanced splenocyte proliferation and upregulated inflammatory cytokines (IL-2, IL-12, TNF-α, and IFN-γ) and NK cell activity in vitro. The immunostimulatory effect was further investigated through various immunological assays. Oral administration of PPCE increased the swimming time and number of immune cells in rats. Histological analysis revealed that PPCE administration exerted splenic recovery. Background: To compare shoulder morbidity between patients who received transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flaps after mastectomy (MX + TRAM) and patients who underwent mastectomy only (MX). Methods: Thirty patients in each group were followed for a minimum of 2 postoperative years. Visual analog scale (VAS) score, restricted range of motion (ROM), rotator cuff disease, muscle strength, shoulder function scores (American Shoulder and Elbow Score and Shoulder Pain and Disability Index), measurement of scapular tilt on chest radiography and standing position in each group were compared. Results: There were no significant differences in VAS, restricted ROM, rotator cuff disease, muscle strength, shoulder function scores or scapula tilt on physical examination. However, lower angles of the scapula on chest radiography (4.0 ± 13.2 versus −3.4 ± 12.4 mm; P = 0.029) and pectoralis minor index (0.4 ± 7.7 mm versus 7.8 ± 9.1 mm; P = 0.001) were significantly different between the two groups. Conclusions: Immediate breast reconstruction after a MX had advantages for preserving scapular resting alignment but did not provide benefits for shoulder morbidity on short‐term follow‐up. Aim To assess the incidence rate of carpal tunnel syndrome ( CTS) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis ( RA) and investigate the correlations between CTS and disease activity and duration in patients with RA. Materials and methods This retrospective cohort study was conducted to assess the incidence rate of CTS in 1070 patients with RA who had visited our rheumatism center between March 2001 and May 2013, and had participated in follow-up at least once over a 5-year period. We also investigated duration of RA and C-reactive protein ( CRP) levels at time of CTS occurrence to identify correlations between CTS occurrence and duration of RA, and disease activity of RA. Results The cumulative incidence for 12 years of CTS in patients with RA was 6.8% (12/176), and 37 cases of CTS occurred in 1070 patients with RA. The incidence rate of CTS in patients with RA was found to be 4.18 per 1000 person-years (37 in 8849 person-years). There was no statistically significant correlation between CTS occurrence and duration of RA, and no positive correlation between CTS occurrence and CRP levels. Conclusion Our incidence rate of CTS in patients with RA was similar to the incidence rate of CTS in the general population (0.3-5.0 per 1000 person-years). The purpose of the present study is to determine if a correlation exists between bone mineral density (BMD) obtained from dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and Hounsfield unit (HU) from pelvic diagnostic computed tomography (dCT), and to evaluate whether HU could be used to identify osteoporosis. Seventy-nine patients were included in this study. HU values were measured in three different sections: the head-neck junction of the femur, the middle portion of the femoral neck, and the intertrochanter of the femur (IT). In each sectional image, HU values were measured at two regions of interest: cortical and cancellous bone (HU_t) and cancellous bone. The correlation between BMD and HU_t of IT was significant (r = 0.839, p < 0.01). In IT, the area under the curve value of HU_t was 0.875 (0.796-0.955). We found that a HU_t of IT <170 can be regarded as indicating osteoporosis: its positive predictive value is 96.9 %. A HU_t of IT >210 can be regarded as indicating an absence of osteoporosis: its negative predictive value is 84.6 %. In conclusion, we found that a significant correlation between HU of pelvic dCT and BMD of DXA, and HU potentially provided an alternative method for determining regional BMD. Purpose: This paper analyzed outcomes of the osteosynthesis with a locking plate system for the fractures of the humerus in throwers using the anterior humeral approach.Methods: Retrospective case series including 31 patients. Bone union was assessed through follow-up radiographs. Results of visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain, range of motion in the elbow joint, time of return to work, and the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS) were evaluated to determine functional outcomes. Direction and length of the fracture, the distal cortical length, the humeral diameter, and the total humeral length were measured as part of fracture configuration analysis.Results: Mean patient age was 25.8 (range, 18-34) years. The follow-up average was 16.0 months (range, 12-23). Delayed union was observed in one (3.1 %) patient. Mean final VAS was 0.4 (range, 0-2), mean time of return to work was 18.2 weeks (range, 13-36), and mean MEPS was 96.3 (range, 88-100) points. All fractures showed a spiral configuration. Mean fracture length was 79.7 (95 % CI, 72.6-86.7) mm, and mean distal cortical length was 48.3 (95 % CI, 37.8-58.8) mm.Conclusions: The results of the current study indicates that plate osteosynthesis using a locking plate system combined with interfragmentary lag screws through anterior humeral approach may be a favorable option for the surgical treatment of humeral shaft fractures in throwers. Background: Suture bridge repair has been recognized to have superior biomechanical characteristics, as shown in previous biomechanical studies. However, it is not clear whether the tendon heals better in vivo after suture bridge repair.Purpose: To evaluate the clinical results and repair integrity after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using a suture bridge technique for patients with rotator cuff tears.Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.Methods: One hundred twenty-three shoulders (120 patients) that underwent arthroscopic suture bridge repair for full-thickness rotator cuff tear were enrolled for this study. The mean duration of follow-up was 25.2 months (range, 16-34 months). The postoperative repair integrity was analyzed with use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 87 shoulders. According to the retear patterns on postoperative MRI, the cases were divided into type 1 (failure at the original repair site) or 2 (failure around the medial row).Results: At the last follow-up, the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) score improved from the preoperative mean of 13.2 points to 29.7 points (P < .001). The rotator cuff was completely healed in 58 (66.7%) of the 87 shoulders, and there was a recurrent tear in 29 shoulders (33.3%). The incidence of retear tended to increase with age older than 60 years at the time of surgery (P = .002). When there was a larger intraoperative tear, the rate of retear was also higher (P = .002). When the severity of preoperative fatty degeneration of the cuff muscles was higher, there was a greater chance of a recurrent tear (P < .001). The retear patterns on postoperative MRI in 29 shoulders with recurrent failures were classified as type 1 in 12 shoulders (41.4%) and type 2 in 17 shoulders (58.6%). The preoperative cuff tear size did not have an influence on retear patterns (P = .236), but the percentage of type 1 retear increased with the severity of fatty degeneration or muscle atrophy (P = .041, .023).Conclusion: Arthroscopic suture bridge repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears led to a relatively high rate of recurrent defects. However, the mean 25-month follow-up demonstrated excellent pain relief and improvement in the ability to perform the activities of daily living, despite the structural failures. The factors affecting tendon healing were the patient’s age, the size and extent of the tear, and the presence of fatty degeneration in the rotator cuff muscle. Background: It is known that there are large regional variations in treatment methods for the management of proximal humeral fractures. The objective of this study was to investigate the national surgical trends in elderly patients with proximal humeral fractures in South Korea.Methods: We analyzed the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database from 2008 to 2016. International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision codes and procedure codes were used to identify patients aged ≥65 years with proximal humeral fractures.Results: A total of 69,120 proximal humeral fractures were identified from 2008 to 2016. The overall operative rate for proximal humeral fractures increased steadily from 24.6% in 2008 to 36.8% in 2016 (p < 0.001). The rate of cases treated with open reduction and internal fixation tended to increase each year, from 71.5% of the overall surgeries in 2008 to 85.6% in 2016; conversely, the rate of cases treated with closed reduction and internal fixation tended to decrease from 19.9% in 2008 to 4.5% in 2016. In terms of type of arthroplasty procedure, the rate of cases treated with reverse shoulder arthroplasty tended to increase significantly each year, from 8.2% of the overall arthroplasty procedures in 2008 to 52.0% in 2016 (p < 0.001). The proportion of reverse shoulder arthroplasty was shown to increase especially in patients aged 80 years or older.Conclusion: Overall, our findings indicated that surgical treatment of proximal humeral fractures, particularly by open reduction and internal fixation, continues to increase; in terms of type of arthroplasty procedure, the rate of cases treated with reverse shoulder arthroplasty tended to increase. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence rates of and risk factors for complex regional pain syndrome type 1 (CRPS-1) after surgery for distal radius fractures (DRFs). Using data from January 2007 to December 2014, we analysed the data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment (HIRA) service. After extracting the data of patients aged ≥18 years whose diagnostic and operation codes for DRFs were entered into the HIRA database, we analysed the incidence rates of and risk factors for CRPS-1. From 2007 to 2014, 172,194 DRFs were treated surgically. Within 1 year postoperatively, 1,103 CRPS-1 cases were diagnosed, with an incidence of 0.64%. On univariate and multivariate analyses, the risk factors that significantly correlated with the incidence of CRPS-1 included female sex, rheumatoid arthritis, open reduction, open fracture, and accompanying ulnar fracture, whereas old age, psychiatric disease, and external fixation were not statistically significant. The incidence of CRPS-1 after surgery for DRF was very low (0.64%) in South Korea. Background & Aims Hepatitis B viral infection is a serious risk factor for chronic hepatitis B ( CHB), cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Recently, several genome-wide association studies ( GWASs) have been conducted to identify important genetic variant associated with the risk of CHB. In our previous GWAS, TCF19 was identified as one of the susceptibility genes for CHB risk ( P=4.2×10−9 at rs1419881). In order to discover possible additional causal variants around TCF19, we performed an association study by genotyping single nucleotide polymorphisms ( SNPs) in OCT4, a nearby gene to TCF19. Methods Nineteen OCT4 genetic variants were selected and genotyped in 3902 subjects (1046 CHB patients and 2856 population controls). Results Logistic regression analysis revealed that OCT4 rs1265163 showed the most significant association signal for the risk of CHB ( OR=1.46, P=4.78×10−12). Linkage disequilibrium and conditional analysis confirmed rs1265163 in OCT4 as a novel genetic marker for CHB susceptibility. The genetic risk scores ( GRSs) were calculated to visualize the combined genetic effects of all known CHB-associated loci, including OCT4 rs1265163, which had been identified in this study. Individuals with higher cumulative GRSs showed significantly increased ORs. The luciferase activity of rs885952, a tagging SNP of rs1265163, showed that OCT4 promoter activity was significantly different between the wild-type and SNP mutant form ( P<.05). Conclusions This follow-up study to our previous GWAS identified a possible causal genetic variant associated with the risk of CHB, and findings from this study may prove useful in the understanding of genetic susceptibility to CHB. Background/Aims: Hood cap-assisted chromocolonoscopy using indigocarmine is expected to improve the detection rate of colorectal polyps, especially adenomatous polyps. Therefore, aim of the present study was to evaluate the usefulness of hood cap-assisted chromocolonoscopy in routine colonoscopic examinations. Methods: From January, 2013 through March, 2013, a total of 86 patients were enrolled (M:F=33:53, mean age=60 years). For each patient, hood cap-assisted colonoscopic examination was performed, followed by hood cap-assisted chromocolonoscopy using 0.2% indigocarmine from the cecum to the hepatic flexure. Total numbers and characteristics of polyps were compared before and after indigo carmine dye spraying. Results: Prior to dye spraying, 48 polyps were found in 37 patients, and after dye spraying, 53 additional polyps were found in 34 patients. Of these undetected polyps, 45 (85%) were small sized polyps (=0.5 cm). Histologically, 19 (36%) were adenomatous polyps, and of these, 15 (28%) were tubular adenomas and 4 (8%) were serrated adenomas. As for the polyp detection rate, there was no difference between the expert and the non-expert groups. Conclusion: Hood cap-assisted chromocolonoscopic examination using indigocarmine was helpful in detecting cecum and ascending colon polyps, especially small sized polyps (<0.5 cm) and neoplastic polyps. Urodeles including newt and salamander have remarkable regenerative capacity during the postembryonic life span. Some of the unique features are the formation of the well-developed wound epidermis and the active dedifferentiation process in the early phase of regeneration. These are regarded as key events for the successful regeneration since no further regenerative activity is possible without them. In this study, we investigated the role of retinoic acid (RA) in salamander limb regeneration by blocking RA synthesis using disulfiram, an inhibitor of aldehyde dehydrogenase that oxidizes retinal to RA. Disulfiram treatment resulted in delaying the limb regeneration processes via inhibition of wound epidermis formation and dedifferentiation process. When RA was administered after disulfiram treatment, the inhibitory effect of disulfiram was rescued. In addition, disulfiram treatment after the dedifferentiation stage resulted in the mild retardation of limb regeneration, suggesting that RA might also be involved in the blastema outgrowth. Furthermore, salamander MMP-9 gene expression was also inhibited by disulfiram treatment. Collectively, our findings indicate that endogenous RA may play an important role(s) in the early phase of limb regeneration by regulating the expression of molecules responsible for the modification of intracellular and extracellular environment during salamander limb regeneration. Double-chambered right ventricle is a rare congenital heart disease. An anomalous muscle band divides the right ventricle into two cavities, causing a variable degree of obstruction. Most cases of double-chambered right ventricle are diagnosed and treated during childhood, whereas cases of initial presentation during adulthood are very rare. Background: Although various studies have described the outcomes and complications of each treatment for OF 4 in osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs), there is still no consensus on the optimal treatment regimen. This study aimed to investigate the clinical effect of OF 4 in patients with OVCFs treated with percutaneous vertebroplasty (PV) compared with PV in combination with intermediate bilateral pedicle screw fixation (IBPSF).Methods: A total of 110 patients with OF 4 in OVCFs from January 2011 to December 2013 were reviewed retrospectively and divided into two groups (group A: PV, group B: PV + IBPSF). According to the guidelines of the German Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma (DGOU), OF 4 consists of 3 fracture types. The clinical and radiographic assessments were observed preoperatively, postoperatively, and during follow-up.Results: The patients were followed for an average of 60.50 ± 15.20 months (group A) and 58.20 ± 17.60 months (group B) without significant differences. No significant differences were found in BMD, BMI and cement volume between the two groups, but differences were found for operation time, blood loss, and hospitalization time. The VAS and ODI scores improved better significantly at the final follow-up in group B but not in group A. Compared with the preoperative values, the postoperative kyphosis angle and loss of fractured segment height significantly improved, but the difference between the groups was significant after 3 months postoperatively. The loss of angular correction and fractured segment height in group A were greater than those in group B. A total of 15 cases of cement leakage were observed in group A and 8 cases in group B, and no complications or revision surgeries were observed in either group. Thirteen new fractures occurred (11 in group A and 2 in group B), which was significant.Conclusion: PV with IBPSF could provide effective restoration and maintenance of fractured segment height and segment alignment as well as a lower rate of complications of OF 4 in OVCFs. The article describes the case of a 62-year-old woman who was referred to a hospital due to acute coronary syndrome for coronary angiography. She was diagnosed with radial arteriovenous fistula (AVF) which developed during transradial coronary angiography and closed spontaneously during 2 months of follow-up period. The case concluded that following the patient ultrasonographically for at least 2 months may be an option in the treatment of AVF.

The article describes the case of a 42-year-old man with myocardial bridge presented to the emergency department with chest pain and diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) induced by cannabis smoking and sildenafil citrate. It suggests that coronary spasm in association with decreased blood pressure due to sildenafil citrate and myocardial bridge was the case of the ACS in the absence of predisposing causes for thrombosis.
