Low-strength and highly compressible excavated clayey soils are common in geotechnical engineering, which cannot serve as a bearing stratum and typically end up being disposed of in landfills. Autoclaved aerated concrete powder (AACP) is a lightweight and porous waste material, with its stockpiles rapidly accumulating worldwide. To promote sustainable development in geotechnical engineering, a type of composite admixture consisting of cement and AACP was developed to modify clayey soils in this study. The physical and mechanical properties of untreated and the composite admixture-treated soil samples were investigated via Atterberg limits, compaction, bender element, constraint compression, free swell, and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests. The physicochemical and microstructural observations, including soil pH, scanning electron microscopy, and mercury intrusion porosimetry analyses, were conducted to interpret the macroscopic mechanical behaviors. Test results showed that the incorporation of AACP improved the workability of clayey soils, while cement further enhanced their mechanical properties. Hydration compounds primarily filled the voids with a diameter ranging from 0.1 to 1 µm. From the perspective of volume change behavior, 8% cement content was recommended. Shear wave velocity showed a strong correlation with the UCS, demonstrating that the bender element technique was an effective non-destructive tool for assessing the strength of compacted samples. Purpose: The home-based medical integrated program (HMIP) is a novel model for home healthcare (HHC) in Taiwan, initiated in 2016 to enhance care quality. However, the outcomes of this program on health outcomes and medical resource utilization in HHC patients remain unclear. Thus, we conducted this study to clarify it. Patients and Methods: The authors utilized the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database to identify HHC patients who received HMIP and those who did not between January 2015 and December 2017. A retrospective cohort study design was used. Convenience sampling was employed to select patients who met the inclusion criteria: being part of the HHC program and having complete data for analysis. Results: A total of 4982 HHC patients in the HMIP group and 10,447 patients in the non-HMIP group were identified for this study. The mean age in the HMIP group and non-HMIP group was 77.6 years and 76.1 years, respectively. Compared with the non-HMIP group, the HMIP group had lower total medical costs for HHC, fewer outpatient department visits and lower medical costs, lower medical costs for emergency department visits, fewer hospitalizations, and a lower mortality rate (34.6% vs 41.2%, p< 0.001). Conclusion: The HMIP is a promising model for improving care quality and reducing medical resource utilization in HHC patients. While this suggests that the non-HMIP model should be replaced, it's important to note that both non-HMIP and HMIP models currently coexist. Context Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could induce the "cytokine storm" due to overactivation of immune system and accompanied by acute respiratory distress syndrome as a serious complication. Vitamin C has been effective in improving lung function of patients by reducing inflammation. Objective The aim was to explore the therapeutic effects of high-dose vitamin C supplementation for patients with COVID-19 using meta-analysis. Data Sources Published studies were searched from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases up to August 2022 using the terms "vitamin C" and "COVID-19". Data analyses were performed independently by 2 researchers using the PRISMA guidelines. Data Extraction Heterogeneity between the included studies was assessed using I2 statistics. When I2 ≥50%, the random-effects model was used; otherwise, a fixed-effects model was applied. Stata 14.0 software was used to pool data by standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% CIs or odds ratios (ORs) with 95% CIs. Data Analysis The 14 studies had a total of 751 patients and 1583 control participants in 7 randomized controlled trials and 7 retrospective studies. The vitamin C supplement significantly increased ferritin (SMD = 0.272; 95% CI: 0.059 to 0.485; P = 0.012) and lymphocyte count levels (SMD = 0.376; 95% CI: 0.153 to 0.599; P = 0.001) in patients with COVID‐19. Patients administered vitamin C in the length of intensive care unit staying (SMD = 0.226; 95% CI: 0.073 to 0.379; P = 0.004). Intake of vitamin C prominently alleviate disease aggravation (OR = 0.344, 95%CI: 0.135 to 0.873, P = 0.025). Background: While the impact of telephone follow-up (TFU) for older emergency department (ED) patients is controversial, its effects on the Asian population remain uncertain. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of a novel computer assisted TFU model specifically for this demographic. Methods: At a Taiwanese tertiary medical center, we developed a TFU protocol that included a referral and case management system within the ED hospital information system. We provided TFU to older discharged patients between April 1, 2021, and May 31, 2021. We compared this cohort with a non-TFU cohort of older ED patients and analyzed demographic characteristics and post-ED discharge outcomes. Results: The TFU model was successfully implemented, with 395 patients receiving TFU and 191 without TFU. TFU patients (median age: 76 years, male proportion: 48.9%) differed from non-TFU patients (median age: 74 years, male proportion: 43.5%). Compared with the non-TFU cohort, the multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the TFU cohort had a lower total medical expenditure < 1 month (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 0.32; 95% CI: 0.21 − 0.47 for amounts exceeding 5,000 New Taiwan Dollars), and higher satisfaction (AOR: 2.80; 95% CI: 1.46 − 5.36 for scores > 3 on a five-point Likert Scale). However, the TFU cohort also had a higher risk of hospitalization < 1 month (AOR: 2.50; 95% CI: 1.31 − 4.77) compared to the non-TFU cohort. Conclusion: Computer-assisted TFU appears promising. Background: Renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) is a progressive, irreversible terminal kidney disease with a poor prognosis and high mortality. Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) is known to be associated with fibrosis in various organs, but its impact on the RIF process remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the role and underlying mechanisms of ANGPTL4 in the progression of RIF. Methods: In vivo, a chronic kidney disease (CKD) rat model of renal interstitial fibrosis was established via intragastric administration of adenine at different time points (4 and 6 weeks). Blood and urine samples were collected to assess renal function and 24-h urinary protein levels. Kidney tissues were subjected to HE and Masson staining for pathological observation. Immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative PCR (qRT‒PCR) were performed to evaluate the expression of ANGPTL4 and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), followed by Pearson correlation analysis. Subsequently, kidney biopsy tissues from 11 CKD patients (6 with RIF and 5 without RIF) were subjected to immunohistochemical staining to validate the expression of ANGPTL4. In vitro, a fibrosis model of human renal tubular epithelial cells (HK2) was established through hypoxic stimulation. Subsequently, an HIF-1α inhibitor (2-MeOE2) was used, and ANGPTL4 was manipulated using siRNA or plasmid overexpression. Changes in ANGPTL4 and fibrosis markers were analyzed through Western blotting, qRT‒PCR, and immunofluorescence. Results: ANGPTL4 was significantly upregulated in the CKD rat model and was significantly positively correlated with renal injury markers, the fibrotic area, and HIF-1α. These results were confirmed by clinical samples, which showed a significant increase in the expression level of ANGPTL4 in CKD patients with RIF, which was positively correlated with HIF-1α. Further in vitro studies indicated that the expression of ANGPTL4 is regulated by HIF-1α, which in turn is subject to negative feedback regulation by ANGPTL4. Moreover, modulation of ANGPTL4 expression influences the progression of fibrosis in HK2 cells. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that ANGPTL4 is a key regulatory factor in renal fibrosis, forming a loop with HIF-1α, potentially serving as a novel therapeutic target for RIF. Purpose: To compare the outcomes of type II pediatric phalangeal neck fractures (PPNFs) treated with closed reduction and cast immobilization (CRCI) versus closed reduction percutaneous pinning (CRPP), and evaluated the clinical efficacy of conservative versus surgical treatment of type II PPNFs via meta-analysis. Methods: Patients aged ≤ 14 years with type II PPNFs were divided into conservative (CRCI) and operative (CRPP) groups. Radiographs measured angulation and translation; hand function was assessed with total active range of motion (TAM) and Quick-DASH. Complication rates were also compared between the groups. A meta-analysis of conservative versus operative treatment confirmed the clinical results. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 and R studio 3.0 with two-tailed, chi-squared, and Mann–Whitney U or t-tests, P < 0.05. Meta-analysis used fixed or random effects models, calculating mean differences and odds ratios for outcomes, and assessing heterogeneity with I2 and Q tests. Results: Final angulation (3.4° ± 3.7° and 4.9° ± 5.4° vs. 3.6° ± 3.7° and 4.2° ± 4.3°) and displacement (6.3% ± 5.8% and 5.7% ± 4.7% vs. 5.8% ± 5.5% and 3.2% ± 4.2%) in the coronal and sagittal planes were not different statistically between the conservative and surgical groups (P > 0.05), but improved significantly compared to preoperative values (P < 0.05). Although Quick-DASH scores were comparable in both groups (P = 0.105), conservatively treated patients had a significantly better TAM at the last follow-up visit (P = 0.005). The complication rates were 24.2% and 41.7% in the surgical and conservatively treated groups respectively (P = 0.162). However, the latter primarily experienced imaging-related complications, whereas the former experienced functional complications (P = 0.046). Our meta-analysis (n = 181 patients) also showed comparable functional (P = 0.49) and radiographic (P = 0.59) outcomes and complication rates (P = 0.21) between the surgical (94 patients) and conservative (87 patients) groups. Conclusions: Conservative and surgical treatments are both reliable and safe approaches for managing type II PPNF in children. However, conservatively treated patients generally experience similar radiographic outcomes, lower complication rates, and better functional outcomes than surgically treated ones. Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) has been demonstrated to be aberrantly activated in viral myocarditis (VMC), but the role of its subtype CaMKIIδ in VMC remains unclear. VMC mice and cardiomyocytes models were induced by Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) treatment. Mice that underwent sham surgery and saline-treated cardiomyocytes served as controls. Body weight, survival, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and fractional shortening (LVFS) were measured, and HE staining was performed to evaluate heart function in VMC mice model and sham control. Inflammation factors in serum or cell supernatant were detected by ELISA. Expressions of CaMKIIδ, Toll/interleukin-1 receptor domain containing adaptor protein (TIRAP), insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2), nuclear factor NF-kappaB (NF-κB) signals, and inflammation factors were examined by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) or western blot. CCK-8, EdU, and flow cytometry were used to evaluate cell behaviors. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), and RNA pull-down were utilized to validate molecule interaction. Methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP) was performed to measure N6-methyladenosine (m6A) level of specific molecule. CaMKIIδ was upregulated in VMC mice and CVB3-treated primary cardiomyocytes, of which knockdown improved cell viability, proliferation, and suppressed cell apoptosis in vitro, thereby alleviating myocarditis in vivo. The stability of CaMKIIδ was attributed to the presence of IGF2BP2 through m6A modification. Loss of CaMKIIδ repressed NF-κB pathway via negatively and directly regulating TIRAP to be involved in inflammatory damage. CaMKIIδ, stabilized by m6A reader IGF2BP2, modulated NF-κB pathway via interacting with TIRAP to alter cell viability, proliferation, and apoptosis, thereby affecting VMC outcome. Background: Tumor growth is closely linked to the activities of various cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME), particularly immune cells. During tumor progression, circulating monocytes and macrophages are recruited, altering the TME and accelerating growth. These macrophages adjust their functions in response to signals from tumor and stromal cells. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), similar to M2 macrophages, are key regulators in the TME. Methods: We review the origins, characteristics, and functions of TAMs within the TME. This analysis includes the mechanisms through which TAMs facilitate immune evasion and promote tumor metastasis. Additionally, we explore potential therapeutic strategies that target TAMs. Results: TAMs are instrumental in mediating tumor immune evasion and malignant behaviors. They release cytokines that inhibit effector immune cells and attract additional immunosuppressive cells to the TME. TAMs primarily target effector T cells, inducing exhaustion directly, influencing activity indirectly through cellular interactions, or suppressing through immune checkpoints. Additionally, TAMs are directly involved in tumor proliferation, angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. Summary: Developing innovative tumor-targeted therapies and immunotherapeutic strategies is currently a promising focus in oncology. Given the pivotal role of TAMs in immune evasion, several therapeutic approaches have been devised to target them. These include leveraging epigenetics, metabolic reprogramming, and cellular engineering to repolarize TAMs, inhibiting their recruitment and activity, and using TAMs as drug delivery vehicles. Osteoblasts (OBs), which are a crucial type of bone cells, derive from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Accumulating evidence suggests inflammatory cytokines can inhibit the differentiation and proliferation of OBs, as well as interfere with their ability to synthesize bone matrix, under inflammatory conditions. NLRP3 inflammasome is closely associated with cellular pyroptosis, which can lead to excessive release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, causing tissue damage and inflammatory responses, however, the comprehensive roles of NLRP3 inflammasome in OBs and their differentiation have not been fully elucidated, making targeting NLRP3 inflammasome approaches to treat diseases related to OBs uncertain. In this review, we provide a summary of NLRP3 inflammasome activation and its impact on OBs. We highlight the significant roles of NLRP3 inflammasome in regulating OBs differentiation and function. Furthermore, current available strategies to affect OBs function and osteogenic differentiation targeting NLRP3 inflammasome are listed and analyzed. Finally, through the prospective discussion, we seek to provide novel insights into the crucial role of NLRP3 inflammasome in diseases related to OBs and offer valuable information for devising treatment strategies. Lagochilus ilicifolius Bunge ex Bentham, Labiat. Gen is a perennial herb with much-branched stems native to Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Gansu, N Shaanxi. It can be used clinically as a hemostatic agent. The chloroplast genome length is 151,466 bp. It contained two inverted repeat regions of 25,660 bp each, a large single-copy region of length 82,504 bp, and a small single-copy region of length 17,642 bp. Also, the GC content is 38.6%. There were 133 genes annotated, including 88 known protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs, and eight rRNAs. The phylogenetic tree was constructed using Bayesian method for plastome data of 29 species. The entire chloroplast genome of L. ilicifolius within the Lamiaceae is the first to reveal genetic taxonomy at the molecular level, and the new phylogenetic tree data can be used for future evolutionary studies. Mixed‐dimensional heterostructures provide additional freedom to construct diverse functional electronic and optoelectronic devices, gaining significant interest. Herein, highly‐aligned pseudo‐1D tellurium is epitaxially grown on 2D monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), including MoSe2, MoS2, and WS2. A one‐pot chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique eliminates the normally required transfer steps, thereby producing mixed‐dimensional heterostructures with an ultraclean interface. The controllable epitaxial growth of Te/TMD heterostructures are verified by Raman, scanning probe microscopy (SPM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation. The photoluminescence results indicate that the emission from TMDs is quenched in the heterostructure, confirming the efficient transfer of photogenerated carriers from TMDs to Te. Additionally, the mixed‐dimensional p‐n Te/MoSe2 heterojunction photodetector presents self‐driven behavior with high responsivity (328 mA W−1), external quantum efficiency (79%), and specific detectivity (8.2 × 109 Jones). The modified facile synthesis strategy and proposed growth mechanism in this study shed light on synthesizing mixed‐dimensional heterojunctions. Pulsatilla chinensis f. alba D. K. Zang 1993 is a forma of Pulsatilla chinensis (Bge.) Regel, the root of P. chinensis is traditional Chinese medicine called Pulsatillae radix. The biggest difference between P. chinensis f. alba and P. chinensis is that P. chinensis f. alba sepals is white. The complete chloroplast genome of P. chinensis f. alba was sequenced using the Illumina NovaSeq platform for the first time. The lengths of the genome, large single-copy (LSC), small single-copy (SSC), two inverted repeats (IRs), and GC content were 163,654 bp, 82,355 bp, 19,069 bp, 31,115 bp, and 37.2%, respectively. It had 134 genes, including 90 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The maximum-likelihood tree indicated that P. chinensis f. alba had a closer relationship with P. chinensis. Background: Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) is a common disorder causing ear pressure, pain, and hearing loss. Balloon Eustachian tuboplasty (BET) is an emerging technique for dilating the Eustachian tube and treating ETD. Whether adding myringotomy improves BET efficacy is controversial. Methods: This retrospective study included 95 ETD patients undergoing BET alone (n = 44) or BET with myringotomy (BET + M; n = 51) between June 2020 and August 2021 at a single medical center. The primary outcome was the change in ETDQ-7 symptom scores from baseline to 6 months after treatment. Secondary outcomes included audiometry, endoscopy, Valsalva maneuver, and complications. Results: The ETDQ-7 scores improved significantly after treatment in both groups (p < 0.001), without significant between-group differences (p = 0.417). No significant differences occurred in the audiometry, endoscopy, and Valsalva results or in most complications between groups. One BET + M patient had a persistent tympanic membrane perforation. Conclusions: Both BET alone and BET + M effectively and safely improved the subjective and objective ETD outcomes. However, adding myringotomy did not further improve the outcomes over BET alone, while it incurred risks such as persistent perforation. BET alone may sufficiently treat ETD without requiring myringotomy in this cohort. Further randomized controlled trials should identify optimal candidates for BET alone versus combined approaches. People with dementia (PwD) who receive home healthcare (HHC) may have distressing symptoms, complex care needs and high mortality rates. However, there are few studies investigating the determinants of mortality in HHC recipients. To identify end-of-life care needs and tailor individualized care goals, we aim to explore the mortality rate and its determinants among PwD receiving HHC. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using a Taiwanese national population database. People with new dementia diagnosis in 2007–2016 who received HHC were included. We calculated the accumulative mortality rate and applied Poisson regression model to estimate the risk of mortality for each variable (adjusted risk ratios, aRR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). We included 95,831 PwD and 57,036 (59.5%) of them died during the follow-up period (30.5% died in the first-year). Among comorbidities, cirrhosis was associated with the highest mortality risks (aRR 1.65, 95% CI 1.49–1.83). Among HHC-related factors, higher visit frequency of HHC (> 2 versus ≦1 times/month, aRR 3.52, 95% CI 3.39–3.66) and higher level of resource utilization group (RUG, RUG 4 versus 1, aRR = 1.38, 95% CI 1.25–1.51) were risk factor of mortality risk. Meanwhile, HHC provided by physician and nurse was related to reduced mortality risk (aRR 0.79, 95% CI 0.77–0.81) compared to those provided by nurse only. Anticipatory care planning and timely end-of life care should be integrated in light of the high mortality rate among PwD receiving HHC. Determinants associated with increased mortality risk facilitate the identification of high risk group and tailoring the appropriate care goals. Background: To study the influencing factors for coronary artery calcification (CAC) in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients and the relationship between CAC and bone metabolism markers and to attempt to find a reliable marker linking vascular calcification and bone metabolism in MHD patients. Methods: A total of 123 patients were enrolled. CAC was assessed by multislice spiral computed tomography (MSCT), and the CAC score (CACS) was evaluated using the Agaston method. Routine laboratory parameters, including triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), glucose (Glu), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), etc., were measured. Serum markers of bone metabolism, such as alkaline phosphatase(ALP), calcitonin (CT), 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25-(OH)D], intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), total type I procollagen amino-terminal peptide (tPINP), N-terminal mid-fragment of osteocalcin (N-MID OC), and β-type I collagen crosslinked carboxyl-terminal peptide (β-CTX), were also measured. Results: Among 123 MHD patients, 37 patients (30.08%) did not have CAC, and 86 patients (69.92%) had CAC, including 41 patients (47.67%) with mild calcification and 45 patients (52.33%) with moderate to severe calcification. Age, Body Mass Index(BMI), the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, TC, Glu, P, and Ca×P in the calcification group were higher than those in the noncalcification group, whereas Mg, iPTH, tPINP, N-MID OC, and β-CTX were lower than those in the noncalcified group (P < 0.05). Compared with the mild calcification group (0 0.05). A logistic regression model was used to evaluate the influencing factors for CAC. The results showed that age, BMI, TC, Glu, P, and Ca×P were risk factors for CAC and its severity in MHD patients, whereas diabetes mellitus, Mg, and N-MID OC were protective factors for CAC in MHD patients. In addition, N-MID OC was a protective factor for the severity of CAC. After adjusting for the corresponding confounding factors, the results of the risk factors were consistent, and N-MID OC was still an independent protective factor for CAC and its severity. Conclusions: Elevated serum P and Ca×P were independent risk factors for CAC in MHD patients, and serum Mg may be an independent protective factor for CAC. CAC was closely related to abnormal bone metabolism and bone metabolic markers in MHD patients. Relatively low bone turnover can promote the occurrence and development of CAC. Serum markers of bone metabolism, such as alkaline phosphatase(ALP), calcitonin (CT), 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25-(OH)D], intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), total type I procollagen amino-terminal peptide (tPINP), N-terminal mid-fragment of osteocalcin (N-MID OC), and β-type I collagen crosslinked carboxyl-terminal peptide (β-CTX), were also measured. Results: Among 123 MHD patients, 37 patients (30.08%) did not have CAC, and 86 patients (69.92%) had CAC, including 41 patients (47.67%) with mild calcification and 45 patients (52.33%) with moderate to severe calcification. Age, Body Mass Index(BMI), the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, TC, Glu, P, and Ca×P in the calcification group were higher than those in the noncalcification group, whereas Mg, iPTH, tPINP, N-MID OC, and β-CTX were lower than those in the noncalcified group (P < 0.05). Compared with the mild calcification group (0 0.05). A logistic regression model was used to evaluate the influencing factors for CAC. The results showed that age, BMI, TC, Glu, P, and Ca×P were risk factors for CAC and its severity in MHD patients, whereas diabetes mellitus, Mg, and N-MID OC were protective factors for CAC in MHD patients. In addition, N-MID OC was a protective factor for the severity of CAC. After adjusting for the corresponding confounding factors, the results of the risk factors were consistent, and N-MID OC was still an independent protective factor for CAC and its severity. Conclusions: Elevated serum P and Ca×P were independent risk factors for CAC in MHD patients, and serum Mg may be an independent protective factor for CAC. CAC was closely related to abnormal bone metabolism and bone metabolic markers in MHD patients. Relatively low bone turnover can promote the occurrence and development of CAC. Avian influenza is an infectious viral disease caused by type A virus, which occurs frequently around the world and causes serious economic losses. Therefore, the adaptive control problem is explored in this paper for an avian influenza model in consideration of slaughtering to poultry, educational campaigns to the susceptible human and treatment to the infected human. First, by analyzing the transmission mechanism of avian influenza, a nonlinear adaptive control problem of avian influenza model is formulated, where some errors between model parameters and real values are allowed. Then, the parameters are estimated by constructing adaptive laws, which can be effectively used to design the applicative controllers to achieve the control goals. Besides, the stability of controlled model is analyzed with the aid of Lyapunov stability theory. In the process of underground engineering construction, rock mass often faces the dual influence of dynamic load disturbance and groundwater, it is therefore essential to investigate the mechanical response of the rock mass under the coupling effect of dynamic load disturbance and water content. In this paper, dynamic load impact tests were carried out on sandstone with bullet velocities of 5 m/s, 10 m/s, and 15 m/s and water content of 0, 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9, and the mechanical behavior and mechanism response of water content to sandstone were investigated. The research findings indicate that this study has made significant contributions in quantifying the along grain and trans-grain fractures of microcracks. It has explored the influence of water content and dynamic loading on the strength mechanism of sandstone. It was discovered that the dynamic loading and water content significantly affect the ratio of along grain and trans-grain fractures, thereby influencing the dynamic behavior of sandstone. The findings suggest a negative association between rock strength and water content and that its peak strength rises as the bullet velocity rises. The fracture characteristics of rock are influenced by water content and bullet velocity. The sample's fracture degree increases with an increase in water content, its particle size distribution map is evident, and there is a positive relation between bullet velocity and fractal dimension. The energy conversion mechanism of the rock is influenced by the water content, as the bullet velocity increases, the absorbed energy density of the rock becomes higher. Furthermore, the correlation between the absorbed energy intensity and density and its fractal dimension is quantified. It is found that energy density and strength are positively correlated. Grewia biloba var. parviflora (Bunge) Hand.-Mazz. (1933), a shrub or small tree, is native to northern and southern China. It is an excellent relief and medicinal plant. The complete chloroplast genome is 158,043 bp in length, with a large single-copy region of 86,957 bp, a small single-copy region of 20,138 bp, two inverted repeat regions of 25,474 bp each, and a GC content of 37.4%. There were 129 genes annotated, including 84 known protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs, and eight rRNAs. The phylogenetic trees are constructed using plastome data from 38 species and the maximum-likelihood method. The results of the chloroplast genome-wide analysis and the phylogenetic tree show the taxonomic phylogeny of the G. biloba var. parviflora in relation to other species, increasing the accuracy of the phylogenetic classification of the plant. Objectives: The objectives of this retrospective clinical study were to evaluate the efficacy of clear aligners on upper-incisor torque control, with the expectation of providing guidance for clinics. Materials and methods: Pretreatment (T0) and posttreatment (T1) cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of 47 patients with a nonextraction treatment using clear aligners were obtained and 120 upper-incisors with torque ≥5° were selected. Voxel-based superimpositions were performed using Dolphin imaging software and achieved movements were then measured. Difference between achieved and predicted movement (DAPM) and the efficiency for upper-incisor torque were used to evaluate the torque control efficacy. Results: The achieved torque movement with clear aligners was lower than predicted significantly, as the mean efficiency was 46.81±33.95%. Additionally, the achieved incisor movement of the crown and root differed significantly from the predicted movement, especially root movement. Conclusions: Clear aligners struggle to control upper-incisor torque, particularly root movement. In that case, overcorrection is necessary to prevent torque loss. Background: Improper refractive correction can be harmful to eye health, aggravating the burden of vision impairment. During most optometry clinical consultations, practitioner-patient interactions play a key role. Maybe it is feasible for patients themselves to do something to get high-quality optometry. But the present empirical research on the quality improvement of eye care needs to be strengthened. The study aims to test the effect of the brief verbal intervention (BVI) through patients on the quality of optometry service. Methods: This study will take unannounced standardized patient (USP) with refractive error as the core research tool, both in measurement and intervention. The USP case and the checklist will be developed through a standard protocol and assessed for validity and reliability before its full use. USP will be trained to provide standardized responses during optical visits and receive baseline refraction by the skilled study optometrist who will be recruited within each site. A multi-arm parallel-group randomized trial will be used, with one common control and three intervention groups. The study will be performed in four cities, Guangzhou and three cities in Inner Mongolia, China. A total of 480 optometry service providers (OSPs) will be stratified and randomly selected and divided into four groups. The common control group will receive USP usual visits (without intervention), and three intervention groups will separately receive USP visits with three kinds of BVI on the patient side. A detailed outcome evaluation will include the optometry accuracy, optometry process, patient satisfaction, cost information and service time. Descriptive analysis will be performed for the survey results, and the difference in outcomes between interventions and control providers will be compared and statistically tested using generalized linear models (GLMs). Discussion: This research will help policymakers understand the current situation and influencing factors of refractive error care quality, and then implement precise policies; at the same time, explore short and easy interventions for patients to improve the quality of optometry service. The mammalian epidermis undergoes constant renewal, replenished by a pool of stem cells and terminal differentiation of their progeny. This is accompanied by changes in gene expression and morphology that are orchestrated, in part, by epigenetic modifiers. Here, we define the role of the histone acetyltransferase KAT2A in epidermal homeostasis and provide a comparative analysis that reveals key functional divergence with its paralog KAT2B. In contrast to the reported function of KAT2B in epidermal differentiation, KAT2A supports the undifferentiated state in keratinocytes. RNA-seq analysis of KAT2A- and KAT2B- depleted keratinocytes revealed dysregulated epidermal differentiation. Depletion of KAT2A led to premature expression of epidermal differentiation genes in the absence of inductive signals, whereas loss of KAT2B delayed differentiation. KAT2A acetyltransferase activity was indispensable in regulating epidermal differentiation gene expression. The metazoan-specific N terminus of KAT2A was also required to support its function in keratinocytes. We further showed that the interplay between KAT2A- and KAT2B-mediated regulation was important for normal cutaneous wound healing in vivo. Overall, these findings reveal a distinct mechanism in which keratinocytes use a pair of highly homologous histone acetyltransferases to support divergent functions in self-renewal and differentiation processes. Several randomized controlled trials and real‐world cohort studies have demonstrated the efficacies of nirmatrelvir plus ritonavir (NMV‐r) and molnupiravir (MOV) in at‐risk patients with COVID‐19; however, the effectiveness of antisevere acute respiratory syndrome‐coronavirus 2 treatments on older patients (≥65 years) remains unclear. This retrospective cohort study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness of the oral antiviral agents, MOV and NMV‐r, in older patients (≥65 years) infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome‐coronavirus 2. Nonhospitalized older patients with COVID‐19 between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, were recruited from the TriNetX Research Network. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match patients who received either NMV‐r or MOV treatment with those who did not receive any oral antiviral agents. Hazard ratios (HRs) for composite all‐cause hospitalization or death during the 30‐day follow‐up period were calculated. PSM revealed two cohorts with 28 824 patients each having balanced baseline characteristics. The antiviral group was associated with significantly lower risk of the primary composite outcome of all‐cause hospitalization or death than the control group (241 vs. 801; HR, 0.307; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.27–0.36) during the follow‐up period. For the secondary outcome, the antiviral group had a significantly lower risk of all‐cause hospitalization (288 vs. 725; HR, 0.322; 95% CI, 0.28–0.37) and mortality (16 vs. 94; HR, 0.176; 95% CI, 0.10–0.30) than the control group. Moreover, the reduced risk of all‐cause hospitalization or death remained consistent in patients receiving NMV‐r (HR, 0.279; 95% CI, 0.24–0.33) and MOV (HR, 0.279; 95% CI, 0.21–0.38). Our results revealed that NMV‐r and MOV decreased the all‐cause hospitalization and death rates among older patients with COVID‐19, supporting the use of antivirals in this vulnerable population. Developing ion‐selective membranes with anti‐biofouling property and biocompatibility is highly crucial in harvesting osmotic energy in natural environments and for future biomimetic applications. However, the exploration of membranes with these properties in osmotic energy conversion remain largely unaddressed. Herein, a tough zwitterionic gradient double‐network hydrogel membrane (ZGDHM) with excellent biofouling resistance and cytocompatibility for sustainable osmotic energy harvesting is demonstrated. The ZGDHM, composed of negatively charged 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) as the first scaffold network and zwitterionic sulfobetaine acrylamide (SBAA) as the second network, is prepared by a two‐step photopolymerization, thus creating continuous gradient double‐network nanoarchitecture and then remarkably enhanced mechanical properties. As verified by the experiments and simulations, the gradient nanoarchitecture endows the hydrogel membrane with apparent ionic diode effect and space‐charge‐governed transport property, thus facilitating directional ion transport. Consequently, the ZGDHM can achieve a power density of 5.44 W m−2 by mixing artificial seawater and river water, surpassing the commercial benchmark. Most importantly, the output power can be promoted to an unprecedented value of 49.6 W m−2 at the mixing of salt‐lake water and river water, nearly doubling up most of the existing nanofluidic membranes. Syringa oblata var. alba is a shrub or a small tree from China with high ornamental, medicinal, and edible value. Here, we present its first complete chloroplast genome. The entire circular genome is 155,648 bp in length, with large single-copy (LSC) length of 86,247, small single-copy (SSC) length of 17,937, inverted repeat (IR) length of 25,732, and GC content of 37.9%. One hundred and thirty-two genes, including 88 protein-coding, 36 tRNA, and eight rRNA genes were predicted. A phylogenetic tree of 25 plant species was constructed based on the maximum-likelihood method, indicating that S. oblata var. alba, S. vulgaris, and S. oblata form a sister group. Antibiotic treatment has been shown to cause gut microbiota dysbiosis. However, lacking critical features defining gut microbiota dysbiosis makes it challenging to prevent. By co-occurrence network analysis, we found that despite short antibiotic courses eliminating certain microbial taxa, the Akkermansia genus played the role of a high-centrality hub to maintain microbiota homeostasis. When the antibiotic courses continued, the elimination of Akkermansia induced a significant microbiota remodeling of the gut microbiota networks. Based on this finding, we found that under long-term antibiotic stress, the gut microbiota was rearranged into a stable network with a significantly lower Akkermansiaceae / Lachnospiraceae (A/L) ratio and no microbial hub. By functional prediction analysis, we confirmed that the gut microbiota with a low A/L ratio also had enhanced mobile elements and biofilm-formation functions that may be associated with antibiotic resistance. This study identified A/L ratio as an indicator of antibiotic-induced dysbiosis. This work reveals that besides the abundance of specific probiotics, the hierarchical structure also critically impacts the microbiome function. The Geriatric Influenza Death (GID) score was developed to help decision making in older patients with influenza in the emergency department (ED), but external validation is unavailable. Thus, we conducted a study was to fill the data gap. We recruited all older patients (≥65 years) who visited the ED of three hospitals between 2009 and 2018. Demographic data and clinical characteristics were retrospectively collected. Discrimination, goodness of fit, and performance of the GID score were evaluated. Of the 5,508 patients (121 died) with influenza, the mean age was 76.6±7.4 (standard deviation) years, and 49.3% were males. The GID score was higher in the mortality group (1.7±1.1 vs. 0.8±0.8, p <0.01). With 0 as the reference, the odds ratio for morality with score of 1, 2 and ≥3 was 3.08 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.66–5.71), 6.69 (95% CI: 3.52–12.71), and 23.68 (95% CI: 11.95–46.93), respectively. The area under the curve was 0.722 (95% CI: 0.677–0.766), and the Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness of fit test was 1.000. The GID score had excellent negative predictive values with different cut-offs. Background: The treatment of neuropathic pain is still a major troublesome clinical problem. The existing therapeutic drugs have limited analgesic effect and obvious adverse reactions, which presents opportunities and challenges for the development of new analgesic drugs. Camphor, a kind of monoterpene, has been shown anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in traditional Chinese medicine. But we know little about its effect in neuropathic pain. In this article, We have verified the reliable analgesic effect of camphor in the neuropathic pain model caused by different predispositions. Methods: The nociceptive response of mice was induced by transient receptor potential A1 (TRPA1) agonist to verify the effect of camphor on the nociceptive response. Multiple paclitaxel (PTX) injection models, Single oxaliplatin (OXA) injection models, Chronic constriction injury (CCI) models and Streptozotocin-induced (STZ) diabetic neuropathic pain models were used in this study. We verified the analgesic effect of camphor in mice by acetone test and conditioned place aversion test. At the same time, comparing the adverse reaction of nervous system between camphor and pregabalin at equivalent dose in locomotor activity test and rotarod test. Using patch clamp to verify the effect of camphor on dorsal root ganglion (DRG) excitability. Results: In behavioral test, compared with vehicle group, camphor significantly reduced the spontaneous nociception caused by TRPA1 agonist-formalina and allyl isothiocyanate (AITC). Compared with vehicle group, camphor significantly reduced the flinching and licking time in neuropathic pain model mice, including PTX, OXA, STZ and CCI induced peripheral neuralgia models. Compared with vehicle group, pregabalin significantly increased the resting time and reduced the average speed without resting and distance in locomotor activity test, reduced the time stayed on rotarod in rotarod test. In patch clamp test, compared with vehicle group, camphor significantly reduced the action potential (AP) firing frequency of DRG. Conclusion: Camphor can alleviate the symptoms of hyperalgesia in various neuropathic pain models, and has no obvious adverse reactions compared with pregabalin. Cisplatin is a widely used standard chemotherapy for various cancers. However, cisplatin treatment is associated with severe ototoxicity. Fucoidan is a complex sulfated polysaccharide mainly derived from brown seaweeds, and it shows multiple bioactivities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antioxidant activities. Despite evidence of the antioxidant effects of fucoidan, research on its otoprotective effects remains limited. Therefore, the present study investigated the otoprotective effects of fucoidan in vitro using the mouse cochlear cell line UB/OC-2 to develop new strategies to attenuate cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. We quantified the cell membrane potential and analyzed regulators and cascade proteins in the apoptotic pathway. Mouse cochlear UB/OC-2 cells were pre-treated with fucoidan before cisplatin exposure. The effects on cochlear hair cell viability, mitochondrial function, and apoptosis-related proteins were determined via flow cytometry, Western blot analysis, and fluorescence staining. Fucoidan treatment reduced cisplatin-induced intracellular reactive oxygen species production, stabilized mitochondrial membrane potential, inhibited mitochondrial dysfunction, and successfully protected hair cells from apoptosis. Furthermore, fucoidan exerted antioxidant effects against oxidative stress by regulating the Nrf2 pathway. Background: Helicobacter pylori (HP) eradication therapy (HPE) is recommended for patients with unexplained immune thrombocytopenia (ITP); however, the role of HPE in preventing ITP in patients with HP infection remains unclear. Therefore, this study was designed to clarify it. Methods: This study was conducted at a tertiary medical center and included all adult patients with HP infection between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018. We compared the risk of developing ITP between patients with and without HPE. All patients were followed up until December 31, 2020. Results: After excluding patients with thrombocytopenia, 1995 adult patients with HP infection, including 1188 patients with HPE and 807 patients without HPE, were included in this study. The mean age of the patients with HPE was 57.9 years, whereas that of those without HPE was 61.6 years. The percentage of males was 56% in patients with HPE and 59% in those without HPE. Patients without HPE had a higher risk of ITP than those with HPE after adjusting for age, sex, the Charlson Comorbidity Index, and comorbidities [adjusted odds ratio (OR) 1.76; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.16–2.68]. Stratified analyses showed that the higher risk was found only in males (adjusted OR: 1.70; 95% CI 1.03–2.80). In addition to HPE, male sex and anemia were independent predictors of ITP in patients with HP infection. Conclusion: This study showed that adult patients with HP infection not receiving HPE had a higher risk of developing ITP. Bi2Te3 − xSex photoconductive detectors are attractive due to their linear photo-response (LPR), potential in ultrabroadband photo-detection, and compatibility with CMOS technology. However, as a fundamental issue for photo-detectors, the weak-light photo-response of Bi2Te3 − xSex detectors was covered by the bolometric response, the photo-thermoelectric effect, and the 300 K background black-body radiation from the optical window. Here, using a window-less system, we systematically measure the weak-light photo-response of a Bi2Te3 photoconductive detector. The bolometric response and photo-thermoelectric effect are carefully excluded. It shows that LPR can persist to a small light power density of P < 10−8 W/cm2. Meanwhile, the response is maximized at ∼80 K temperature. We suggest that the LPR is rooted in the unique carrier recombination configuration of Bi2Te3, which can result in a constant lifetime for light-generated carriers. The concerned trap level is manifested by a negative photo-response under reduced light intensity. The signature of surface state related signal is presented as a photo-response with the maximum at ∼10 K temperature, which is fragile under increased light intensity. Although the window-less photo-response measurement is at its early stage, it provides a perspective which is different from that of the traditional optical-window based measurement. A crucial component of the musculoskeletal system, the tendon is one of the most commonly injured tissues in the body. In severe cases, the ruptured tendon leads to permanent dysfunction. Although many efforts have been devoted to seeking a safe and efficient treatment for enhancing tendon healing, currently existing treatments have not yet achieved a major clinical improvement. Here, an injectable granular hyaluronic acid (gHA)-hydrogel is engineered to deliver fibromodulin (FMOD)-a bioactive extracellular matrix (ECM) that enhances tenocyte mobility and optimizes the surrounding ECM assembly for tendon healing. The FMOD-releasing granular HA (FMOD/gHA)-hydrogel exhibits unique characteristics that are desired for both patients and health providers, such as permitting a microinvasive application and displaying a burst-to-sustained twophase release of FMOD, which leads to a prompt FMOD delivery followed by a constant dose-maintaining period. Importantly, the generated FMOD-releasing granular HA hydrogel significantly augmented tendon-healing in a fully-ruptured rat's Achilles tendon model histologically, mechanically, and functionally. Particularly, the breaking strength of the wounded tendon and the gait performance of treated rats returns to the same normal level as the healthy controls. Aims: A computerized tool and interdisciplinary care were implemented to develop a novel model for older patients with delirium in the emergency department (ED). Methods: We developed a computerized tool using a delirium triage screen and brief confusion assessment in the hospital information system, performed education for the healthcare providers, and developed a continuous care protocol. Comparisons for outcomes between pre- and post-intervention periods were performed. Results: Compared with the pre-intervention period, patients in the post-intervention period had shorter hospitalization stay, lower expenditure of hospitalization, more likely to return home, lower ED revisits of ≤ 3 days, re-hospitalization of ≤ 14 days, and mortality of ≤ 1 month. All mentioned differences were not statistically significant. Conclusions: A novel model was successfully developed for delirium management in older patients in the ED. Background: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) could mediate embryo-maternal communication to affect embryo implantation by delivering biology information, including microRNA (miRNA), protein, lipid. Our previous research shows that miR-92b-3p was differentially expressed in EVs of uterine flushing fluids during the embryo implantation period. However, the role of miR-92b-3p from EVs in embryo implantation remains elusive. Materials and methods: EVs were isolated from porcine endometrial epithelial cells (EECs) by ultracentrifugation. MiR-92b-3p mimics and EVs were used to regulate the expression of miR-92b-3p in porcine trophoblast cells (PTr2 cells). Cell proliferation, migration and adhesion analyses were used to observe the phenotype. RT-qPCR, western blot and dual-luciferase reporter assay were used to assess the targets of miR-92b-3p. Results: In this study, EVs derived from porcine EECs were identified and could be taken up by PTr2 cells. We found that the EVs derived from EECs transfected with miR-92b-3p mimic (EVs-miR-92b-3p) significantly promoted the proliferation, migration and adhesion of PTr2 cells. We verified that Tuberous sclerosis complex subunit (TSC1) and Dickkopf 3 (DKK3) were the target genes of miR-92b-3p. Moreover, our study showed that miR-92b-3p plays a vital role in PTr2 cells via targeting TSC1 and DKK3. Furthermore, the 3'UTR vectors of TSC1 and DKK3 can rescue the effect of miR-92b-3p on PTr2 cells. Introduction: Platycodon grandiflorum root (PG), a popular traditional Chinese medicine, contains considerable chemical components with broad pharmacological activities. The complexity and diversity of the chemical components of PG from different origins contribute to its broad biological activities. The quality of southern PG is superior to that of northern PG, but the mechanisms underlying these differences remain unclear. Objectives: In order to study variation in the differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs), differentially expressed genes (DEGs), as well as their interactions and signalling pathways among PG from Anhui and Liaoning. Methods: The metabolomes based on liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) and the transcriptome based on high‐throughput sequencing technology were combined to comprehensively analyse PGn and PGb. Results: A total of 6515 DEGs and 83 DAMs from the comparison of PG from Anhui and Liaoning were detected. Integrated analysis of metabolomic and transcriptomic data revealed that 215 DEGs and 57 DAMs were significantly enriched in 48 pathways according to KEGG pathway enrichment analysis, and 15 DEGs and 10 DAMs significantly enriched in the main pathway sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis might play a key role in complex response or regulatory processes. Conclusion: Differences in PG from southern and northern China might thus stem from differences in environmental factors, such as precipitation, light duration, and humidity. The results of our study provide new insight into geographic variation in gene expression and metabolite accumulation and will enhance the utilisation of PG resources. Aim: Home healthcare (HHC) provides continuous care for disabled patients. However, HHC referral after the emergency department (ED) discharge remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed its clarification. Methods: A computer-assisted HHC referral by interdisciplinary collaboration among emergency physicians, case managers, nurse practitioners, geriatricians, and HHC nurses was built in a tertiary medical center in Taiwan. Patients who had HHC referrals after ED discharge between February 1, 2020 and September 31, 2020, were recruited into the study. A non-ED HHC cohort who had HHC referrals after hospitalization from the ED was also identified. Comparison for clinical characteristics and uses of medical resources was performed between ED HHC and non-ED HHC cohorts. Results: The model was successfully implemented. In total, 34 patients with ED HHC and 40 patients with non-ED HHC were recruited into the study. The female proportion was 61.8% and 67.5%, and the mean age was 81.5 and 83.7 years in ED HHC and non-ED HHC cohorts, respectively. No significant difference was found in sex, age, underlying comorbidities, and ED diagnoses between the two cohorts. The ED HHC cohort had a lower median total medical expenditure within 3 months (34,030.0 vs. 56,624.0 New Taiwan Dollars, p = 0.021) compared with the non-ED HHC cohort. Compared to the non-ED HHC cohort, the ED HHC cohort had a lower ≤ 1 month ED visit, ≤ 6 months ED visit, and ≤ 3 months hospitalization; however, differences were not significant. Conclusion: An innovative ED HHC model was successfully implemented. Further studies with more patients are warranted to investigate the impact. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
