To control spontaneous combustion of sulfide ores, the compound inhibitor was prepared by selecting physical resistance raw materials(Na2CO3), chemical resistance raw materials(Melatonin), Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTMAB) and hydroxyethyl cellulose(HEC). With the help of the simultaneous thermal analyzer, different concentrations of inhibitors were prepared and the thermal behavior of the ore samples with 10, 15, and 20 wt% inhibitor at four heating rates of 5, 10, 15, and 20 K/min was determined. The Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method was applied to calculate the activation energy of sulfide ores with different concentrations. The results showed that: Gradually increasing the heating rate will increase the reaction intensity of each ore sample in the first weight loss stage of thermal decomposition, and then reduce the mass of the ore samples involved in the second weight loss stage; The thermal stability of each resisted ore sample is better than that of the original ore sample; The increase in the concentration of inhibitor can inert the reaction process of ore samples in the thermal decomposition stage, weakening the exothermic effect of ore samples; The inhibitor with 15 wt% had a better effect on preventing spontaneous combustion of sulfide ores, and its property value is higher than other concentrations. Simple Summary: Intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) has proven to be more effective in minimizing radiation exposure to normal organs when compared to photon-based volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in patients diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC). This retrospective cohort study represents the first quantitative assessment of the longitudinal impact on the quality of life (QoL) outcomes in NPC patients undergoing treatment with IMPT (n = 41) as opposed to VMAT (n = 246). We gathered data on global QoL, functional QoL, C30 symptoms, and HN35 symptoms using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-HN35 questionnaires at four time points: pre radiotherapy (RT), during RT, 3 months post RT, and 12 months post RT. IMPT demonstrated superior mean dose reductions in 12 of the 16 organs at risk compared to VMAT. This reduction in radiation dose, attributed to the IMPT technique, appears to be associated with positive outcomes in functional QoL, reflecting a noteworthy increase of 7.5 points and a decrease of 10.7 points in HN35 symptoms. However, this effect is time dependent and exclusively observed at the time point of during RT. Purpose: This retrospective cohort study aims to compare the quality of life (QoL) in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) treated with intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) versus volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) at different time points. Materials and Methods: We conducted a longitudinal assessment of QoL on 287 newly diagnosed NPC patients (IMPT: 41 and VMAT: 246). We collected outcomes of global QoL, functional QoL, C30 symptoms, and HN35 symptoms from EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-HN35 questionnaires at pre-radiotherapy, during radiotherapy (around 40 Gy), 3 months post radiotherapy, and 12-months post radiotherapy (RT). The generalized estimating equation was utilized to interpret the group effect, originating from inherent group differences; time effect, attributed to RT effects over time; and interaction of the group and time effect. Results: IMPT demonstrated superior mean dose reductions in 12 of the 16 organs at risk compared to VMAT, including a significant (>50%) reduction in the oral cavity and larynx. Both groups exhibited improved scores of global QoL, functional QoL, and C30 symptoms at 12 months post RT compared to the pre-RT status. Regarding global QoL and C30 symptoms, there was no interaction effect of group over time. In contrast, significant interaction effects were observed on functional QoL (p = 0.040) and HN35 symptoms (p = 0.004) during RT, where IMPT created an average of 7.5 points higher functional QoL and 10.7 points lower HN35 symptoms than VMAT. Conclusions: Compared to VMAT, dose reduction attributed to IMPT could translate into better functional QoL and HN35 symptoms, but the effect is time dependent and exclusively observed during the RT phase. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether variations in cranial angles and treatment accuracy during CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery necessitate adjustment of the margins of the planning target volume. Patients and Methods: Data from 66 patients receiving CyberKnife treatment for brain tumors were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were immobilized using a thermoplastic mask and headrest. The cranial angle was measured on planning CT and patients were divided into 2 groups: ≤10° (Group A) and >10° (Group B). Intrafractional motion was recorded using the CyberKnife tracking system over 50 min. Translational and rotational errors were compared between groups, and planning target volume margins were calculated. Results: In Group A, significant translational error differences were found along with the X-axis over time (P <.02). In Group B, significant differences occurred along with the Z-axis (P <.03). No significant rotational or 3-dimensional vector differences were found in either group. Group A had significantly lower Y-axis (P <.045) and roll axis (P <.005) errors compared to Group B. Estimated planning target volume margins in Group A were 0.56 mm (X), 0.46 mm (Y), and 0.47 mm (Z). In Group B, margins were 0.62 mm (X), 0.48 mm (Y), and 0.46 mm (Z). Margins covering 95% of intrafraction motion were 0.49 to 0.50 mm (X, Y, Z) and 0.69 mm (3-dimensional vector) for Group A, and 0.48 to 0.60 mm and 0.79 mm for Group B. With a 1-mm margin, complete coverage was achieved in Group A while 2.1% of vectors in Group B exceeded 1 mm. Background: Aging leads to changes in the body system, such as sarcopenia. This can result in several health issues, particularly physical and mobility dysfunction. Asian people typically have little awareness of sarcopenia. Thus, this study incorporated nursing instruction into the mobile application design to allow users to easily learn about sarcopenia. Objective: This study evaluated a model for predicting high-risk populations for sarcopenia in home settings. We further developed a sarcopenia nursing guidance mobile application and assessed the effectiveness of this application in influencing sarcopenia-related knowledge and self-care awareness among participants. Methods: Using a one-group pretest–posttest design, data were collected from 120 participants at a teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. This study used an artificial intelligence algorithm to evaluate a model for predicting high-risk populations for sarcopenia. We developed and assessed the sarcopenia nursing guidance mobile application using a questionnaire based on the Mobile Application Rating Scale. Results: The application developed in this study enhanced participants' sarcopenia-related knowledge and awareness regarding self-care. After the three-month intervention, the knowledge and awareness was effectively increase, total score was from 4.15 ± 2.35 to 6.65 ± 0.85 and were significant for all questionnaire items (p values < 0.05). On average, 96.1% of the participants were satisfied with the mobile app. The artificial intelligence algorithm positively evaluated the home-use model for predicting high-risk sarcopenia groups. Conclusions: The mobile application of the sarcopenia nursing guidance for public use in home settings may help alleviate sarcopenia symptoms and reduce complications by enhancing individuals' self-care awareness and ability. Cobalt Iron Yttrium (CoFeY) magnetic film was made using the sputtering technique in order to investigate the connection between the thickness and annealing procedures. The sample was amorphous as a result of an insufficient thermal driving force according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) examination. The maximum low-frequency alternate-current magnetic susceptibility (χac) values were raised in correlation with the increased thickness and annealing temperatures because the thickness effect and Y addition improved the spin exchange coupling. The best value for a 50 nm film at annealing 300 °C for χac was 0.20. Because electron carriers are less constrained in their conduction at thick film thickness and higher annealing temperatures, the electric resistivity and sheet resistance are lower. At a thickness of 40 nm, the film's maximum surface energy during annealing at 300 °C was 28.7 mJ/mm2. This study demonstrated the passage of photon signals through the film due to the thickness effect, which reduced transmittance. The best condition was found to be 50 nm with annealing at 300 °C in this investigation due to high χac, strong adhesion, and low resistivity, which can be used in magnetic fields. Tumor vasculature abnormality creates a microenvironment that is not suitable for anti-tumor immune response and thereby induces resistance to immunotherapy. Remodeling of dysfunctional tumor blood vessels by anti-angiogenic approaches, known as vascular normalization, reshapes the tumor microenvironment toward an immune-favorable one and improves the effectiveness of immunotherapy. The tumor vasculature serves as a potential pharmacological target with the capacity of promoting an anti-tumor immune response. In this review, the molecular mechanisms involved in tumor vascular microenvironment-modulated immune reactions are summarized. In addition, the evidence of pre-clinical and clinical studies for the combined targeting of pro-angiogenic signaling and immune checkpoint molecules with therapeutic potential are highlighted. The heterogeneity of endothelial cells in tumors that regulate tissue-specific immune responses is also discussed. The crosstalk between tumor endothelial cells and immune cells in individual tissues is postulated to have a unique molecular signature and may be considered as a potential target for the development of new immunotherapeutic approaches. Featured Application: We developed a set of automatic temperature measurements and a monitoring platform for dairy cattle. This system resolves the need for the ranch staff to regularly measure the body temperature of dairy cattle. This study developed an automated temperature measurement and monitoring platform for dairy cattle. The platform used the YOLO V3-tiny (you only look once, YOLO) deep learning algorithm to identify and classify dairy cattle images. The system included a total of three layers of YOLO V3-tiny identification: (1) dairy cow body; (2) individual number (identity, ID); (3) thermal image of eye socket identification. We recorded each cow's individual number and body temperature data after the three layers of identification, and carried out long-term body temperature tracking. The average prediction score of the recognition rate was 96%, and the accuracy was 90.0%. The thermal image of eye socket recognition rate was >99%. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC) index of the prediction model was 0.813 (0.717–0.910). This showed that the model had excellent predictive ability. This system provides a rapid and convenient temperature measurement solution for ranchers. The improvement in dairy cattle image recognition can be optimized by collecting more image data. Simple Summary: Epithelial growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are the first-line therapy for patients with advanced-stage lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutations. However, 17–31% of these patients do not respond to therapy, making early evaluation of treatment response crucial. This prospective study investigates the value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) for timely prediction of response and survival of these patients. We evaluated 30 patients with stage IIIB/IV lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations, receiving first-line EGFR-TKI therapy. 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed before and two weeks after initiation of treatment. Positron Emission Tomography Response Criteria in Solid Tumors served as an independent predictor of non-progressive disease; baseline and change of metabolic tumor volume represented independent predictors of progression-free survival and overall survival, respectively. Therefore, 18F-FDG PET/CT is an early predictor of outcomes and individual prognosis of patients with stage IIIB/IV lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations receiving first-line EGFR-TKI therapy. This study aims to investigate the role of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in early prediction of response and survival following epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR)–tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations. Thirty patients with stage IIIB/IV lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations receiving first-line EGFR-TKIs were prospectively evaluated between November 2012 and May 2015. EGFR mutations were quantified by delta cycle threshold (dCt). 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed before and 2 weeks after treatment initiation. PET response was assessed based on PET Response Criteria in Solid Tumors (PERCIST). Baseline and percentage changes in the summed standardized uptake value, metabolic tumor volume (bsumMTV and ΔsumMTV, respectively), and total lesion glycolysis of ≤5 target lesions/patient were calculated. The association between parameters (clinical and PET) and non-progression disease after 3 months of treatment in CT based on the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors Version 1.1 (nPD3mo), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were tested. The median follow-up time was 19.6 months. The median PFS and OS were 12.0 and 25.3 months, respectively. The PERCIST criteria was an independent predictor of nPD3mo (p = 0.009), dCt (p = 0.014) and bsumMTV (p = 0.014) were independent predictors of PFS, and dCt (p = 0.014) and ΔsumMTV (p = 0.005) were independent predictors of OS. 18F-FDG PET/CT achieved early prediction of outcomes in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations receiving EGFR-TKIs. Using deep learning models to analyze patients with intracranial tumors, to study the image segmentation and standard results by clinical depiction complications of cerebral edema after receiving radiotherapy. In this study, patients with intracranial tumors receiving computer knife (CyberKnife M6) stereotactic radiosurgery were followed using the treatment planning system (MultiPlan 5.1.3) to obtain before-treatment and four-month follow-up images of patients. The TensorFlow platform was used as the core architecture for training neural networks. Supervised learning was used to build labels for the cerebral edema dataset by using Mask region-based convolutional neural networks (R-CNN), and region growing algorithms. The three evaluation coefficients DICE, Jaccard (intersection over union, IoU), and volumetric overlap error (VOE) were used to analyze and calculate the algorithms in the image collection for cerebral edema image segmentation and the standard as described by the oncologists. When DICE and IoU indices were 1, and the VOE index was 0, the results were identical to those described by the clinician.The study found using the Mask R-CNN model in the segmentation of cerebral edema, the DICE index was 0.88, the IoU index was 0.79, and the VOE index was 2.0. The DICE, IoU, and VOE indices using region growing were 0.77, 0.64, and 3.2, respectively. Using the evaluated index, the Mask R-CNN model had the best segmentation effect. In order to meet the living comfort requirements of residents, three kinds of elastic cushion materials were applied in the bedroom floor structure of a light timber buliding and the sound insulation performance was compared with its ordinary floor. The transfer function method and transient excitation method were considered to measure the sound insulation, damping ratio and elastic modulus of materials, and the sound insulation of the floor under the daily behavioral jump excitation. Through comparative analysis, the results showed that the elastic cushion material could effectively reduce the resonance and improve the sound insulation performance of the floor due to its high damping ratio and high elastic modulus. The experimental test further demonstrated that all three types of elastic cushion materials could effectively improve the vibration and sound insulation performance of the building structure, with BGL floor the best, followed by EPP and softwood floor, while the ordinary OSB floor was the lowest. Moreover, under the jumping excitation, all three floating floors could improve the impact sound insulation performance of the middle and low frequency bands, improving the user comfort. The aim of this study was to investigate drug interactions of L‐dopa/carbidopa with catechin and green tea essence in rabbits following the simultaneous administration via an intramuscular injection of catechin or via an intragastric route for green tea essence with L‐dopa/carbidopa. The results indicated that catechin at doses of 10, 20 and 50 mg/kg increased the area under the plasma concentration–time curve from time zero to the time of the last quantifiable concentration (AUC0–t) of L‐dopa by about 69, 78 and 42%, respectively. The metabolic ratios of the AUC0–t for 3‐O‐methyldopa (3‐OMD)/L‐dopa significantly decreased by about 56, 68 and 76% (P < 0.05), respectively. In addition, a single dose of 5/1.25 mg/kg L‐dopa/carbidopa was co‐administrated with 150 mg/kg green tea essence via an intragastric route with an oral‐gastric tube. Comparing the related pharmacokinetic parameters of L‐dopa, the clearance and metabolic ratio of L‐dopa decreased by 20 and 19% (P < 0.05), respectively. In conclusion, catechin and green tea essence can significantly affect the metabolism of L‐dopa by the catechol‐O‐methyltransferase (COMT) metabolic pathway. Catechin can enhance L‐dopa bioavailability, and both catechin and green tea essence decreased 3‐OMD formation. Calcaneal quantitative ultrasonography (QUS) is a useful prescreening tool for osteoporosis, while the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the mainstream in clinical practice. We evaluated the correlation between QUS and DXA in a Taiwanese population. A total of 772 patients were enrolled and demographic data were recorded with the QUS and DXA T-score over the hip and spine. The correlation coefficient of QUS with the DXA-hip was 0.171. For DXA-spine, it was 0.135 overall, 0.237 in females, and 0.255 in males. The logistic regression model using DXA-spine as a dependent variable was established, and the classification table showed 66.2% accuracy. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses with Youden's Index revealed the optimal cut-off point of QUS for predicting osteoporosis to be 2.72. This study showed a meaningful correlation between QUS and DXA in a Taiwanese population. Thus, it is important to pre-screen for osteoporosis with calcaneus QUS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to better evaluate the structural performance of the wooden floor used in the gymnasium and realize the structural optimization design, this research took the floors of the two gymnasiums in Nanjing as the research object and used the transient excitation method to test the natural frequency and damping ratio parameters of the three types of floor structures, and carried out relevant analysis. The results showed that three kinds of floor structures all meet the requirements of building comfort; under the premise that the types and specifications of the constituent materials were the same, the order of the damping ratios of the three kinds of floor structures from large to small was: fixed double-layer keel floor structure, suspended single-layer keel floor structure, suspended double-layer keel floor structure; compared with the fixed floor structure, the suspended floor structure had low damping ratio characteristics, the energy dissipation of it was slow during structural vibration, which means its impact absorption rate was small, and its impact buffering ability was good, that was, the integral structure had good resilience performance; compared with the floor structure using single-layer keel structure, the floor structure using double-layer keel structure had a low damping ratio characteristic, the absorption rate of the structure was small and the resilience performance was good. In this paper, three-dimensional images were used to analyze the association between dose-volume parameters and radiation-induced brain edema in patients with a brain tumor after receiving stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). The computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance images (MRI) and treatment parameters were transferred through the treatment planning system (Multiplan, version 5.1.3). The correlation between the dose of radiation therapy and brain edema was evaluated by image processing methods, such as image normalization, registration, filtering, segmentation, and feature extraction. The association was evaluated by volume index and intersection index. The study results suggest that the volume receiving radiation dose above 30% of the prescribed dose is highly associated with the brain edema in brain tumor patients after SRS. The neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd-YAG) laser is used for removal of pigmented skin patches and rejuvenation of skin. However, complications such as hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and petechiae can occur after frequent treatments. Therefore, identifying the risk factors for such complications is important. The development of a multivariable logistic regression model with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) is needed to provide valid predictions about the incidence of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation complication probability (PIHCP) among patients treated with Nd-YAG laser toning. A total of 125 female patients undergoing laser toning therapy between January 2014 and January 2016 were examined for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) complications. Factor analysis was performed using 15 potential predictive risk factors of PIH determined by a physician. The LASSO algorithm with cross-validation was used to select the optimal number of predictive risk factors from the potential factors for a multivariate logistic regression PIH complication model. The optimal number of predictive risk factors for the model was five: immediate endpoints of laser (IEL), α-hydroxy acid (AHA) peels, Fitzpatrick skin phototype (FSPT), acne, and melasma. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.70–0.88) in the optimal model. The overall performance of the LASSO-based PIHCP model was satisfactory based on the AUC, Omnibus, Nagelkerke R2, and Hosmer–Lemeshow tests. Astrocytes play pivotal roles in regulating glutamate homeostasis at tripartite synapses. Inhibition of soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEHi) provides neuroprotection by blocking the degradation of 14,15-epoxyeicosatrienoic acid (14,15-EET), a lipid mediator whose synthesis can be activated downstream from group 1 metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) signaling in astrocytes. However, it is unclear how sEHi regulates glutamate excitotoxicity. Here, we used three primary rat cortical culture systems, neuron-enriched (NE), astrocyte-enriched glia-neuron mix (GN), and purified astrocytes, to delineate the underlying mechanism by which sEHi and 14,15-EET attenuate excitotoxicity. We found that sEH inhibitor 12-(3-adamantan-1-yl-ureido)-dodecanoic acid (AUDA) and 14,15-EET both attenuated N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced neurite damage and cell death in GN, not NE, cortical cultures. The anti-excitotoxic effects of 14,15-EET and AUDA were both blocked by the group 1 mGluR5 antagonist 2-methyl-6-(phenylethynyl)pyridine (MPEP), as were their protective effects against NMDA-disrupted perineuronal astrocyte processes expressing glutamate transporter-1 (GLT-1) and subsequent glutamate uptake. Knockdown of sEH expression also attenuated NMDA neurotoxicity in mGluR5- and GLT-1-dependent manners. The 14,15-EET/AUDA-preserved astroglial integrity was confirmed in glutamate-stimulated primary astrocytes along with the reduction of the c-Jun N-terminal kinase 1 phosphorylation, in which the 14,15-EET effect is mGluR5-dependent. In vivo studies validated that sEHi and genetic deletion of sEH (Ephx2-KO) ameliorated excitotoxic kainic acid-induced seizure, memory impairment, and neuronal loss while preserving GLT-1-expressing perineuronal astrocytes in hippocampal CA3 subregions. These results suggest that 14,15-EET mediates mGluR5-dependent anti-excitotoxicity by protecting astrocytes to maintain glutamate homeostasis, which may account for the beneficial effect of sEH inhibition in excitotoxic brain injury and diseases. Summary: Objective: The cholinergic deficit is thought to underlie progressed cognitive decline in Alzheimer Disease. The lineage reprogramming of somatic cells into cholinergic neurons may provide strategies toward cell‐based therapy of neurodegenerative diseases. Methods and results: Here, we found that a combination of neuronal transcription factors, including Ascl1, Myt1l, Brn2, Tlx3, and miR124 (5Fs) were capable of directly converting human brain vascular pericytes (HBVPs) into cholinergic neuronal cells. Intriguingly, the inducible effect screening of reprogramming factors showed that a single reprogramming factor, Myt1l, induced cells to exhibit similarly positive staining for Tuj1, MAP2, ChAT, and VAChT upon lentivirus infection with the 5Fs after 30 days. HBVP‐converted neurons were rarely labeled even after long‐term incubation with BrdU staining, suggesting that induced neurons were directly converted from HBVPs rather than passing through a proliferative state. In addition, the overexpression of Myt1l induced the elevation of Ascl1, Brn2, and Ngn2 levels that contributed to reprogramming. Conclusions: Our findings provided proof of the principle that cholinergic neurons could be produced from HBVPs by reprogramming factor‐mediated fate instruction. Myt1l was a critical mediator of induced neuron cell reprogramming. HBVPs represent another excellent alternative cell resource for cell‐based therapy to treat neurodegenerative disease. To evaluate the relationships among patient characteristics, irradiation treatment planning parameters, and treatment toxicity of acute radiation dermatitis (RD) after breast hybrid intensity modulation radiation therapy (IMRT). The study cohort consisted of 95 breast cancer patients treated with hybrid IMRT. RD grade ≥2 (2+) toxicity was defined as clinically significant. Patient characteristics and the irradiation treatment planning parameters were used as the initial candidate factors. Prognostic factors were identified using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)-based normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) model. A univariate cut-off dose NTCP model was developed to find the dose-volume limitation. Fifty-two (54.7%) of ninety-five patients experienced acute RD grade 2+ toxicity. The volume of skin receiving a dose >35 Gy (V35) was the most significant dosimetric predictor associated with RD grade 2+ toxicity. The NTCP model parameters for V35Gy were TV50 = 85.7 mL and γ50 = 0.77, where TV50 was defined as the volume corresponding to a 50% incidence of complications, and γ50 was the normalized slope of the volume-response curve. Additional potential predictive patient characteristics were energy and surgery, but the results were not statistically significant. To ensure a better quality of life and compliance for breast hybrid IMRT patients, the skin volume receiving a dose >35 Gy should be limited to <85.7 mL to keep the incidence of RD grade 2+ toxicities below 50%. Abstract: This paper presents a structural design of graphitic carbon nitride (CN) for use as an active photocatalyst in H2 evolution reactions. The active photocatalyst is synthesized by subjecting a CN sample to consecutive annealing and ammonia treatments. The CN sample is produced through urea condensation. The annealing treatment destroys the polymeric CN to form a defective polymeric layer framework incorporating 1,3,4,6,7,9,9b‐Heptaazaphenalene‐2,5,8‐triamine (melem) oligomers. The annealed CN exhibits a wide absorption range in visible light because the distorted structure causes conjugation of the π‐orbital with a nitrogen nonbonding state. The subsequent ammonia treatment of the annealed CN repairs the nitrogen vacancies and bridges the polymeric framework and melem oligomers. The repaired and bridged sample (N‐aCN) provides viable pathways for charge separation and transport, and active amino sites are introduced in the sample for electron injection in order to produce H2. When Pt is deposited, the CN and N‐aCN samples catalyze H2 evolution from aqueous triethanolamine solution at quantum yields of 3.7 and 17%, respectively, under 420 nm monochromatic irradiation. The high activity of N‐aCN demonstrates that the oligomer‐incorporated polymeric layer framework effectively harvests light and mediates charge transport in CN materials for photoenergy conversion. Background: Target identification is important for radiosurgery for arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Targets defined by different imaging modalities may be inconsistent in practice. Objectives: The goal of this study is to review and analyze the consistency between targets defined by different imaging modalities in radiosurgery for AVMs. Methods: From March 2007 to June 2011, AVM patients for radiosurgery whose targets were delineated by angiography/computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were reviewed. Spetzler-Martin grades, hemorrhage history, and treatment volumes were checked. Dice similarity coefficients (DSCs) between targets were calculated and analyzed. Results: Twenty-three patients were enrolled. The mean DSCs were between 0.37 and 0.51 for targets by different modalities. There was no significant difference in DSCs regarding Spetzler-Martin grades and hemorrhage history. For CT-delineated target volumes <3 cm³, MRI-delineated target volumes <5 cm³, and angiography-delineated target volumes <2 cm³, the DSCs between the different image modalities were significantly decreased. Conclusions: Consistency between targets delineated using different image modalities was likely to be unsatisfactory and worsen significantly in niduses with volumes <5 cm³. Objective: Granulomatous diseases (GDs) can be metabolically active and indistinguishable from lung cancer on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) imaging. Evaluation of solitary pulmonary lesions remains a diagnostic challenge in regions with endemic GD. This study sought to determine the efficacy of dual-time-point (DTP) 18F-FDG PET/computed tomography (CT) imaging in diagnosing solitary pulmonary lesions from such regions. Methods: A total of 50 patients with solitary pulmonary nodules or masses with confirmed histopathological diagnoses underwent DTP 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging at 1 and 3 h after tracer injection. The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) on early and delayed scans (SUV1h and SUV3h, respectively) and retention index (RI) were calculated for each pulmonary lesion. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was performed to evaluate the discriminating validity of the parameters. Results: There were 37 malignant and 13 benign solitary pulmonary lesions. Eight of the 13 (62 %) benign lesions were GDs. The sensitivity/specificity/accuracy of SUV1h, SUV3h and RI were 84/69/80 %, 84/85/84 %, and 81/54/74 %, respectively. SUV3h had the best diagnostic performance, especially regarding specificity. The values of SUV1h and SUV3h were significantly different between malignant lesions and GD, while the RI values of malignant lesions and GD were both high (18.6 ± 19.5 and 18.7 ± 15.3 %, respectively; P = not significant). With the help of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, a portable micro gas chromatography (\upmu \textGC) system for lung cancer associated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detection is realized for the first time. The system is composed of an MEMS preconcentrator, an MEMS separation column, and a CMOS system-on-chip (SoC). The preconcentrator provides a concentration ratio of 2170. The separation column can separate more than seven types of lung cancer associated VOCs. The SoC is fabricated by a TSMC 0.35\;\upmu \textm 2P4M process including the CMOS VOCs detector, sensor calibration circuit, low-noise chopper instrumentation amplifier (IA), 10 bit analog to digital converter, and the microcontrol unit (MCU). Experimental results show that the system is able to detect seven types of lung cancer associated VOCs (acetone, 2-butanone, benzene, heptane, toluene, m-xylene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene). Background: Radiation-induced tinnitus is a side effect of radiotherapy in the inner ear for cancers of the head and neck. Effective dose constraints for protecting the cochlea are under-reported. The aim of this study is to determine the cochlea dose limitation to avoid causing tinnitus after head-and-neck cancer (HNC) intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).Methods: In total 211 patients with HNC were included; the side effects of radiotherapy were investigated for 422 inner ears in the cohort. Forty-nine of the four hundred and twenty-two samples (11.6%) developed grade 2+ tinnitus symptoms after IMRT, as diagnosed by a clinician. The Late Effects of Normal Tissues-Subjective, Objective, Management, Analytic (LENT-SOMA) criteria were used for tinnitus evaluation. The logistic and Lyman-Kutcher-Burman (LKB) normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models were used for the analyses.Results: The NTCP-fitted parameters were TD 50  = 46.31 Gy (95% CI, 41.46-52.50), γ 50  = 1.27 (95% CI, 1.02-1.55), and TD 50  = 46.52 Gy (95% CI, 41.91-53.43), m = 0.35 (95% CI, 0.30-0.42) for the logistic and LKB models, respectively. The suggested guideline TD 20 for the tolerance dose to produce a 20% complication rate within a specific period of time was TD 20  = 33.62 Gy (95% CI, 30.15-38.27) (logistic) and TD 20  = 32.82 Gy (95% CI, 29.58-37.69) (LKB).Conclusions: To maintain the incidence of grade 2+ tinnitus toxicity <20% in IMRT, we suggest that the mean dose to the cochlea should be <32 Gy. Purpose: Symptomatic radiation pneumonitis (SRP), which decreases quality of life (QoL), is the most common pulmonary complication in patients receiving breast irradiation. If it occurs, acute SRP usually develops 4–12 weeks after completion of radiotherapy and presents as a dry cough, dyspnea and low-grade fever. If the incidence of SRP is reduced, not only the QoL but also the compliance of breast cancer patients may be improved. Therefore, we investigated the incidence SRP in breast cancer patients after hybrid intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) to find the risk factors, which may have important effects on the risk of radiation-induced complications. Methods: In total, 93 patients with breast cancer were evaluated. The final endpoint for acute SRP was defined as those who had density changes together with symptoms, as measured using computed tomography. The risk factors for a multivariate normal tissue complication probability model of SRP were determined using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) technique. Results: Five risk factors were selected using LASSO: the percentage of the ipsilateral lung volume that received more than 20-Gy (IV20), energy, age, body mass index (BMI) and T stage. Positive associations were demonstrated among the incidence of SRP, IV20, and patient age. Energy, BMI and T stage showed a negative association with the incidence of SRP. Our analyses indicate that the risk of SPR following hybrid IMRT in elderly or low-BMI breast cancer patients is increased once the percentage of the ipsilateral lung volume receiving more than 20-Gy is controlled below a limitation. Conclusions: We suggest to define a dose-volume percentage constraint of IV20< 37% (or AIV20< 310cc) for the irradiated ipsilateral lung in radiation therapy treatment planning to maintain the incidence of SPR below 20%, and pay attention to the sequelae especially in elderly or low-BMI breast cancer patients. A batteryless remotely-controlled locomotive IC utilizing electrolytic bubbles as propelling force is realized in 0.35 \mum CMOS technology. Without any external components, such as magnets and on-board coils, the bare IC is wirelessly powered and controlled by a 10 MHz ASK modulated signal with RS232 control commands to execute movement in four moving directions and with two speeds. The receiving coil and electrolysis electrodes are all integrated on the locomotive chip. The experiment successfully demonstrated that the bare IC moved on the surface of an electrolyte with a speed up to 0.3 mm/s and change moving directions according to the commands. In this study, we explore a relation between reflection colors and a chiral concentration. Basing on our observation, the reflection colors in BPI are dominated by lattice surface of the platelets and the lattice constant of a unit cell, but they do not depend linearly on the chiral concentration. The reflection peak moves to a short wavelength as increasing the chiral concentration because of contracting the lattice constant. A highly adaptive multi-sensor SoC comprising four integrated on-chip sensors and a smart wireless acquisition system is realized in standard CMOS process for the first time. To intelligently process different types (C, R, I, and V) of sensor signals, a linear (R-square is 0.999) and reconfigurable sensor readout is proposed based on switched-capacitor circuit technology. In addition, a dual-input energy harvesting interface with conversion efficiency of 73% is also integrated to pick up light energy and RF power, which potentiates long-term use without battery replacement. The entire SoC occupies die area of 11.25 mm 2 and consumes only 942.9 µW. Experimental results show that four physiological parameters (temperature, glucose and protein concentration, and pH value) can be simultaneously monitored using this chip. This system can be seen as a universal sensor platform. Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a multivariate logistic regression model with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) to make valid predictions about the incidence of moderate-to-severe patient-rated xerostomia among head and neck cancer (HNC) patients treated with IMRT. Methods and Materials: Quality of life questionnaire datasets from 206 patients with HNC were analyzed. The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-H&N35 and QLQ-C30 questionnaires were used as the endpoint evaluation. The primary endpoint (grade 3+ xerostomia) was defined as moderate-to-severe xerostomia at 3 (XER3m) and 12 months (XER12m) after the completion of IMRT. Normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models were developed. The optimal and suboptimal numbers of prognostic factors for a multivariate logistic regression model were determined using the LASSO with bootstrapping technique. Statistical analysis was performed using the scaled Brier score, Nagelkerke R2, chi-squared test, Omnibus, Hosmer-Lemeshow test, and the AUC. Results: Eight prognostic factors were selected by LASSO for the 3-month time point: Dmean-c, Dmean-i, age, financial status, T stage, AJCC stage, smoking, and education. Nine prognostic factors were selected for the 12-month time point: Dmean-i, education, Dmean-c, smoking, T stage, baseline xerostomia, alcohol abuse, family history, and node classification. In the selection of the suboptimal number of prognostic factors by LASSO, three suboptimal prognostic factors were fine-tuned by Hosmer-Lemeshow test and AUC, i.e., Dmean-c, Dmean-i, and age for the 3-month time point. Five suboptimal prognostic factors were also selected for the 12-month time point, i.e., Dmean-i, education, Dmean-c, smoking, and T stage. The overall performance for both time points of the NTCP model in terms of scaled Brier score, Omnibus, and Nagelkerke R2 was satisfactory and corresponded well with the expected values. Aims Preventing stroke through endovascular treatment with vertebral artery stent remains a great challenge due to the occurrence of an in-stent restenosis. Materials & Methods In this study, a retrospective analysis was conducted in 90 patients who had been treated with VAS between 2004 and 2011 in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. Patients were followed up at 3 months, 6 months,and 1 year after VAS treatment and annually thereafter. For each time point, neurological function tests, vessel ultrasound and computer tomography angiography were performed to preliminarily screen the vessel stenosis. Digital subtraction angiography was used to verify the narrow sign on CTA or ultrasound. Clinical features of each patient including clopido-grel metabolization genes ( CYP2 C19, CYP3A4, and P2 Y12) were recorded with purpose to investigate the possible risk factors for the development of ISR. Results Single factor analysis dem-onstrated that hyperlipidemia ( P < 0.05) and CYP2 C19 ( P < 0.01) loss-of-function geno-type increased the likelihood of ISR. A multiple logistic cox regression analysis also showed that stroke patients with hyperlipidemia ( HR 3.719, 95% CI: 1.094-12.637, P = 0.035), and CYP2 C19 loss-of-function genotype ( HR 2.959, 95% CI: 1.325-6.610, P = 0.008) were more likely to suffer from ISR. Furthermore, CYP2 C19 alleles were mainly divided into three groups: wt/wt ( CYP2 C19 *1/*1), wt/m ( CYP2 C19 *1/*2 and *1/*3), and m/m ( CYP2 C19 *2/*2,*2/*3 and*3/*3). Recurrent rate of ischemic stroke in m/m and wt/m groups was higher than the wt/wt group ( OR: 0.141, 95% CI: 0.016-1.221, P = 0.042). Conclusion The study leads to the conclusion that hyperlipidemia and CYP2 C19 impotency are possible risk factors for the development of ISR in VAS-treated patients with ischemic. This paper presents a highly-integrated DNA detection SoC, where several kinds of cantilever DNA sensors, a readout circuit, an MCU, voltage regulators, and a wireless transceiver, are integrated monolithically in a 0.35~\mu m CMOS Bio-MEMS process. The cantilever-based biosensors with embedded piezoresistors aim to transduce DNA hybridization into resistance variation without cumbersome labeling process. To improve detection sensitivity for low DNA concentration use, an oscillator-based self-calibrated readout circuit with high precision is proposed to convert small resistance variation (0.6~\Omega ,< 0.02\% of original resistance) of the sensor into adequate frequency variation and further into digital data. Moreover, its wireless capacity enables isolation of the sample solution from electrical wire lines and facilitates data transmission. To demonstrate the effectiveness of full system, it is applied to detect hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA. The experimental results show that it has the capability to distinguish between one base-pair (1-bp) mismatch DNAs and match DNAs and achieves a limit of detection (LOD) of less than 1 pM. As developments of modern societies, an on-field and personalized diagnosis has become important for disease prevention and proper treatment. To address this need, in this work, a polysilicon nanowire (poly-Si NW) based biosensor system-on-chip (bio-SSoC) is designed and fabricated by a 0.35 μm 2-Poly-4-Metal (2P4M) complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process provided by a commercialized semiconductor foundry. Because of the advantages of CMOS system-on-chip (SoC) technologies, the poly-Si NW biosensor is integrated with a chopper differential-difference amplifier (DDA) based analog-front-end (AFE), a successive approximation analog-to-digital converter (SAR ADC), and a microcontroller to have better sensing capabilities than a traditional Si NW discrete measuring system. In addition, an on–off key (OOK) wireless transceiver is also integrated to form a wireless bio-SSoC technology. This is pioneering work to harness the momentum of CMOS integrated technology into emerging bio-diagnosis technologies. This integrated technology is experimentally examined to have a label-free and low-concentration biomolecular detection for both Hepatitis B Virus DNA (10 fM) and cardiac troponin I protein (3.2 pM). Based on this work, the implemented wireless bio-SSoC has demonstrated a good biomolecular sensing characteristic and a potential for low-cost and mobile applications. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE MRI) has been used to study tumor response to treatment for many years. In this study, the modified full width at half-maximum (mFWHM), calculated from the wash-in slope histogram, is proposed as a parameter for the evaluation of changes in tumor heterogeneity which respond to radiotherapy. Twenty-five patients with brain tumors were evaluated and divided into the nonresponder group ( n = 11) and the responder group ( n = 14) according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST). All selected tumors were evaluated by mFWHM ratios of post- to pre-therapy (the ratio was defined as the therapeutic mFWHM ratio, TMR). The changes in kurtosis of the histograms and the averaged Ktrans within a tumor were also calculated for comparison. The receiver operating characteristic analysis and Kaplan-Meier curves were used to examine the diagnosis ability. The TMR values were significantly higher in nonresponders than in responders ( p < 0.001). When compared with the other two parameters, the proposed method also demonstrated better sensitivity and specificity. When adopting the TMR for the estimation of prognosis after therapy, there was a significant difference between the population survival curves. In conclusion, the derived mFWHM reflects tumor heterogeneity, and the ability to depict patient survival probability from TMR corresponds well with that from RECIST. Cell growth characterization during culturing is an important issue in a variety of biomedical applications. In this study an electrical bioimpedance spectroscopy-based multi-electrode culture monitoring system was developed to characterize cell growth. A PC12 cell line was cultured for the cell growth study. The bioimpedance variations for PC12 cell growth within the initial 12 h were measured over a range between 1 kHz and 4 MHz at three different medium concentrations. Within this frequency range, the largest bioimpedance value was 1.9 times the smallest bioimpedance value. The phase angle decreased over the range from 1 to 10 kHz when cells were growing. Then, the phase angle approached a constant over the frequency range between 10 kHz and 2 MHz. Thereafter, the phase angle increased rapidly from 20 to 52 degrees during cell culturing between 8 and 12 h at 4 MHz. The maximum cell number after culturing for 12 h increased by 25.8% for the control sites with poly-D-lysine (PDL) pastes. For the normal growth factor, the cell number increased up to 4.78 times from 8 to 12 h, but only 0.96 and 1.60 times for the other two medium growth factors. The correlation coefficients between impedance and cell number were 0.868 (coating with PDL), and 0.836 (without PDL) for the normal concentration medium. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of left gastric artery embolization (LGAE) on plasma ghrelin levels, abdominal fat, and body weight in beagles. Methods: The institutional animal care and use committee approved this study. Fifteen healthy adult beagles (12 male and three female animals) were randomly divided into three experimental groups: LGAE was proceeded with mixed emulsion of bleomycin A(5) hydrochloride and lipiodol (group A), and polyvinyl alcohol particles (group B). Transcatheter saline injections in the left gastric artery were performed as a control. Weight and fasting plasma ghrelin levels were obtained at baseline and at weekly intervals for 8 weeks after the procedure in all animals. All animals were scanned and measured by multidetector computed tomography at baseline and at week 8 for evaluation of abdominal fat. Results: In LGAE-treated animals, plasma ghrelin and body weight significantly decreased compared to control animals (group A: P = 0.007 and P = 0.000; group B: P = 0.004 and P = 0.000, respectively). Subcutaneous fat size was also significantly reduced (P = 0.011 and P = 0.027 for groups A and B, respectively). The decreasing percentage in ghrelin levels at week 6 (peak of recovery) of LGAE-treated animals were negatively correlated with the size of area supplied by left gastric artery (r = -0.693, P = 0.026). Conclusion: LGAE could suppress the plasma concentration of ghrelin, which results in subcutaneous fat size reduction and weight loss. An implantable system-on-a-chip (SoC) integrating controller/actuation circuitry and 8 individually addressable drug reservoirs is proposed for on-demand drug delivery. It is implemented by standard 0.35-μmCMOS technology and post-IC processing. The post-IC processing includes deposition of metallic membranes (200Å Pt/3000Å Ti/200Å Pt) to cap the drug reservoirs, deep dry etching to carve drug reservoirs in silicon as drug containers, and PDMS layer bonding to enlarge the drug storage. Based on electrothermal activation technique, drug releases can be precisely controlled by wireless signals. The wireless controller/actuation circuits including on-off keying (OOK) receiver, microcontroller unit, clock generator, power-on-reset circuit, and switch array are integrated on the same chip, providing patients the ability of remote drug activation and noninvasive therapy modification. Implanted by minimally invasive surgery, this SoC can be used for the precise drug dosing of localized treatment, such as the cancer therapy, or the immediate medication to some emergent diseases, such as heart attack.
