Gegenwart is a German word which can be translated into English with the words Presence and/or Present in the "here and now," but it can also imply the notion of "timelessness." Different philosophers and theologians have used this word but I will argue that the richness of this word has often been "lost in translation" and thus the connotations of this German term need tobe explored in more detail to fully grasp what the authors intended to express when they used this word. As a case study, I will focus on how the famous thinker Hans Jonas uses this word in his writings showing the strong correlation with his understanding of good human actions performed before God, in agreement with his ethical approach built on the principle of human responsibility. This article also aims to illustrate the historical development of the concept of Gegenwart. This task will be achieved by analysing how several scholars (contemporaries of or preceding Jonas) have used the concept of Gegenwart over different periods of time and how this ultimately influenced Jonas. From a cultural and psychological perspective, everyday life's meaning generation is a treasure box of highly important and complex mechanisms. The potential use of the cultural thinking stream, inhabiting the individual's perception of their reality, is increasingly connected and connects to a multitude of psychological and scientific streams. By generating a new model, the concepts of irreversible time will be connected with you- (from self and other constructed concepts) and I-positioning generations, allowing us to dive deeper into the complexity of the Gegenwarts-experienced phenomena. Unfortunately, the direct application of such a theoretical elaboration to the individual phenomena is rare, wherefore the redefined model will be discussed using a wide range of daily occurrences. In this paper, the question of "how multi-dimensional visualizations are used to define the concept of now and how they impact the self in form of self-dialogues between inner voices?" is generated. The potential for therapeutical measures and theoretical implications will be derived from the findings and subsequently presented. Meanwhile, the theoretical baseline will be used to link the concepts of how beings perceive their reality and how art and science can function as interactive tools for a more I-centered expression of inner distress. Homosexuality is perceived as both abnormal and normal in Germany. German-language poetry of the 21st century mirrors this duality with two ways of depicting male homoeroticism: implicit and explicit depiction. The metaphoric codification inherent in the former can be read as the consequence of homophobia being socially prevalent. In ›this‹ society, homosexuality is abnormal. Uncensored writing on the subject is impossible. The absence of codification in the latter, however, can be read as the consequence of a society amiable towards homosexuality. It is seen as normal. Uncensored writing on the subject is possible, even when it comes to the explicit depiction of homoerotic pornography in poems. This article consists of a Queer Reading of poetic texts by Mario Wirz, Noah Voisine, Richard Schemmerer, Thomas Luthardt, Christoph Klimke, Olaf Schwanke, Kai Belina, Sven Weidner, Boris Steinberg, Joachim Maria Rudolphi and Jo van Nelsen and takes methodological inspiration from deconstructivism as well as hermeneutics. In ihrem experimentellen Text Winterreise. Ein Theaterstück (2011) greift Elfriede Jelinek die Motive des Wanderns und der Fremdheit des bekannten Liederzyklus von Wilhelm Müller und Franz Schubert auf. Als freie Bühnenadaption gestaltet, überträgt sie die Wander-Thematik von der räumlichen in die existentielle Dimension der Zeit. In den verschiedenen Abschnitten des Stücks präsentiert die Autorin aktuelle Themen der österreichischen Politik und Medien und verbindet sie mit autobiographischen Reflexionen. Insbesondere die dramatischen Monologe der Autorin-Persona entfalten Probleme der Zeit anhand von Fragen der Identität, des Alterns, des Zeitgeistes, der Zeitgenossenschaft und der Kunst. In einem close reading werden diese Passagen genauer untersucht und in den Kontext zeittheoretischer Überlegungen wie z.B. Beschleunigung, Hyperkonnektivität, und Entnetzung gestellt. In den Zeitdiagnosen des Literaturwissenschaftlers Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht und des Soziologen Hartmut Rosa wird das Besondere unserer Gegenwart durch ihr Verhältnis zur Zeit bestimmt. Auf der Ebene der Symptome sehen beide das ziellose Getrieben-Sein als dominantes Lebensgefühl der Gegenwart. Was die Bewertung dieser Symptome betrifft, so sind beide zwar skeptisch in Bezug auf die Chancen der Selbstreflexivität des Menschen, begründen diese Skepsis aber sehr unterschiedlich. Gumbrecht betont die Zirkularität des Bewusstseins und bezeichnet deshalb die Gegenwart als ‘breit’, Rosa betont die Situativität, was — um bei Gumbrechts Raum-Metapher zu bleiben — die Gegenwart zu einer punktförmigen werden lässt. Dass wir uns die Gegenwart jedenfalls nicht mehr als linear zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft eingebunden vorstellen können, darin sind sich beide einig. In den praktischen Konsequenzen dieser Diagnosen stoßen jedoch Welten aufeinander: Gumbrecht spricht sich für die individuelle Suche nach intensiven Präsenzerlebnissen aus, Rosa vor allem für eine Gesellschaft, die das menschliche Grundbedürfnis nach Resonanzerfahrungen ernst nimmt. Allerdings dürften die Erfahrungen der Präsenz und der Resonanz vielleicht doch nicht all zu verschieden sein. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
