Purpose: This study compared the physiological profiles and energy-system contributions of trained football players engaged in regular-passing and third-man-passing small-sided games (SSGs) that included 4 versus 4 and a goalkeeper. Methods: Ten male trained football players participated in this crossover study. All participants were randomly assigned to either regular-passing SSG or third-man-passing SSG (4 vs 4 with a goalkeeper, 35-m × 17-m pitch size, and 6-min match duration). During these SSGs, physiological parameters including peak and mean heart rate, oxygen uptake ( V ˙ O 2 peak and V ˙ O 2 mean), metabolic equivalents in V ˙ O 2 peak and V ˙ O 2 mean , and blood lactate concentrations (peak La− and delta La− [Δ La−]), were measured. Energy contributions (oxidative [WOxi], glycolytic [WGly], and phosphagen [WPCr] systems) and Global Positioning System (GPS) variables (total distance, total acceleration counts, mean speed, and maximum speed) were also analyzed. Results: No significant differences in physiological parameters and GPS variables were found between regular- and third-man-passing SSGs. WOxi in kilojoules and percentages was significantly higher during both SSGs than WPCr and WGly (P <.0001, respectively). WPCr and WPCr + WGly values during third-man-passing SSGs were significantly higher than those during regular-passing SSGs (P <.05). Additionally, low to moderate positive correlations were observed between WOxi, WGly in kilojoules, V ˙ O 2 peak , V ˙ O 2 mean , peak La−, Δ La−, total acceleration counts, and mean speed (r =.39–.64). Conclusions: Third-man-passing SSGs may be useful for increasing anaerobic capacity. More third-man-passing SSG sessions in preparation for football games may support high metabolic power and repeated powerful anaerobic performances in trained football players. Background: This case report details a true hemifacial hyperplasia with temporomandibular joint ankylosis case managed through a multidisciplinary approach involving department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, and prosthodontics. Case presentation: A 42-year-old female patient presented with a chief complaint of limited mouth opening. Clinically, the patient exhibited severe facial asymmetry due to hyperplasia of the left facial region. Cone-beam computed tomography findings revealed overgrowth of the left mandible, zygomatic bone, and maxillary bone including alveolar bone, along with bony ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint. To alleviate the restricted mouth opening, gap arthroplasty was initially performed. Additionally, alveoloplasty was carried out to address occlusal interference caused by the overgrown alveolar bone. Orthodontic treatment was conducted to reduce mandibular molar width and achieve proper overjet. For reconstruction of the left side occlusion, dental implants were placed using an implant surgical guide, followed by prosthetic rehabilitation. Total treatment duration was 48 months, resulting in stabilization of the patient's occlusion. Conclusion: By setting feasible goals through consultations among specialists from each department, based on three-dimensional simulations, successful and efficient occlusal rehabilitation can be achieved in a true hemifacial hyperplasia patient. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate retention efficacy by assessing retention stability and patient perspectives according to type of circumferential retainer: the wrap‐around circumferential retainer (WCR) and customized clear retainer (CCR). Materials and Methods: This cohort follow‐up study involved 52 patients aged 18–62 who underwent fixed‐appliance orthodontic treatment without extractions or orthognathic surgery. Following screening consenting participants were divided into WCR and CCR groups. All participants before follow‐up received fixed retainers for the upper and lower anteriors and respective removable retainers within 2 weeks post‐debond. Intraoral scans and lateral cephalograms were taken immediately after debonding (T0) and again 12 months later. Dentoalveolar changes in several measurements were compared to evaluate retention efficacy. Surveys were conducted at 1 month (T1) and 12 months (T2) post‐debonding to assess changes in patient experiences. Outcome assessments were blinded. Paired T‐tests and independent T‐tests were used for intragroup and intergroup comparisons of dentoalveolar measurements, respectively. Survey responses were analysed using the Pearson Chi‐Square test. Results: The final assessment included 32 participants. Model analysis revealed no significant differences between the groups, except for maxillary intermolar width (p =.033). In the WCR group, the cephalometric analysis indicated a significant increase in the incisor mandibular plane angle (p =.002) and a decrease in the interincisal angle (p =.014), while changes in the CCR group were statistically non‐significant. Patient attitude evaluation showed similar trends for wear time and overall satisfaction. However, a higher percentage of respondents in the WCR group reported irritation when wearing the retainers (p =.037) at T1 and discomfort related to speech (p =.038) at T2. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of systemically administered anti-sclerostin antibodies (Anti-Scl Ab) on orthodontic tooth movements (OTM) in an ovariectomized rat. Methods: Twenty-four 12-week-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two groups: (1) ovariectomy (OVX) group, (2) ovariectomy + romosozumab (ROMO) group. OTM was performed 8 weeks after OVX. The ROMO group received subcutaneous injections of romosozumab twice a week, starting two weeks after OVX. Eight weeks after the OVX, an orthodontic force of 50 g was measured and applied by connecting orthodontic elastic bands between the maxillary first molar and a mini-screw to facilitate tooth movement (orthodontic treatment). Subsequently, the three rats were sacrificed on days 5, 7, 10, and 14. The plaster models were scanned to measure the amount of tooth movement. The effects on alveolar bone and periodontal tissues were evaluated through micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analysis, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis. Results: The ROMO group showed more tooth movement on day 7 of orthodontic treatment. Conversely, on days 10 and 14, relatively less movement was observed. Analysis of the root furcation area of the maxillary first molars revealed that from the 7th day, BV/TV, Tb.N., Tb.Th. increased, while Tb.Sp. decreased in the ROMO group. More TRAP-positive cells were observed in the compression side of the OVX group, the ROMO group exhibited a marked decrease in the positive expression of the RANKL, OPG, and sclerostin. The OPG/RANKL ratio showed significant differences in expression between the two groups. The ROMO group exhibited a higher OPG/RANKL ratio than the OVX group, and the tension side exhibited a higher OPG/RANKL ratio demonstrating significant differences. Conclusion: Romosozumab initially accelerated tooth movements, but later decreased tooth movement. As new alveolar bone is formed, the micro-CT parameters are also improved. The distribution of mammalian pests is altered by changes in global climate and land cover. Rattus norvegicus is a significant pest that contributes to the catastrophic decline of native species. Therefore, the studies identifying potentially suitable habitats for Rattus norvegicus and the impact of future climate change on the extent of such habitats are crucial. In this study, we determined the effects of key environmental and ecological variables on Rattus norvegicus in South Korea by considering multiple climate changes, land cover, and dispersal scenarios. The available presence locations with the least correlated variables and Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) model along with multiple Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) scenarios were utilized to project current and future habitat suitability. Additionally, three dispersal scenarios were incorporated into the model to enrich the analysis of potential future distribution. Mean diurnal temperature, elevation, and nighttime light were the three most important variables contributing to the species' distribution. The coastal and northern regions of South Korea constitute currently suitable habitats and are expected to exhibit a significant increase in the species' population under future climate projections. The results demonstrate the potential expansion of Rattus norvegicus as a result of changes in climate and land cover and provide crucial insights into the species' environmental niches. Medical plastic-appliance-based healthcare services, especially in dentistry, generate tremendous amounts of plastic waste. Given the physiological features of our mouth, it is desirable to substitute dental care plastics with viscoelastic and antimicrobial bioplastics. Herein, we develop a medical-grade and sustainable bioplastic that is viscoelastic enough to align the tooth positions, resists microbial contamination, and exhibits recyclable life cycles. In particular, we devise a molecular template involving entanglement-inducing and antimicrobial groups and prepare a silk fibroin-based dental care bioplastic. The generated compactly entangled structure endows great flexibility, toughness, and viscoelasticity. Therefore, a satisfactory orthodontic outcome is accomplished, as demonstrated by the progressive alignment of male rabbit incisors within the 2.5 mm range. Moreover, the prepared bioplastic exhibits resistance to pathogenic colonization of intraoral microbes such as Streptococcaceae and Veillonellaceae. Because the disentanglement of entangled domains enables selective separation and extraction of the components, the bioplastic can be recycled into a mechanically identical one. The proposed medical-grade and sustainable bioplastic could potentially contribute to a green healthcare future. Background: In very rare cases, patients who have undergone surgery-first approach with intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) exhibit unusual downward movements of mandible even up to 1-year post surgery, which makes it difficult for orthodontists to stabilize the occlusion during the postoperative orthodontic period. The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting the unusual downward movement of the mandible 1-year after the surgery-first approach using IVRO, while focusing on cephalometric values. Methods: This retrospective cohort study sample was divided into two groups based on the amount of vertical movement of the B-point 1-year post surgery (Group S, predictable upward movement; Group U, unpredictable downward movement greater than 2 mm). To evaluate cephalometric changes between the two groups, cephalograms were obtained before surgery, 1 day after surgery, 1 month after surgery, and 1 year after surgery. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test, Mann–Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: At the initial examination, Group U showed a shallower anterior overbite. The vertical surgical change in the B-point was statistically different between the two groups (p < 0.001), indicating that group U exhibited more upward movement of the mandible during surgery. Group U showed significant downward movement of the mandible 1 month after surgery, and this finding persisted until 1 year postoperatively. Clockwise rotation of the mandible was also observed. Surgical vertical movement of the B-point showed a strong correlation with postoperative vertical movement of mandible (r = -0.674; p < 0.001) along a linear relationship, indicating that the amount of postoperative vertical downward movement of the mandible increased as the amount of surgical upward movement of the B-point increased (R2 = 0.449; p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study revealed that unusual downward movement of the mandible after a surgery-first approach using IVRO is correlated with the amount of upward movement during the surgery. When planning surgery, in cases in which a significant upward movement of the mandible is anticipated, orthodontists should prepare for the possibility of subsequent unusual downward movement and a tendency for the anterior overjet to decrease during the postoperative orthodontic period. The study investigated the effects of temperature and centrifugation time on the efficacy of removing uncured resin from 3D-printed clear aligners. Using a photo-polymerizable polyurethane resin (Tera Harz TC-85, Graphy Inc., Seoul, Korea), aligners were printed and subjected to cleaning processes using isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or centrifugation (g-force 27.95g) at room temperature (RT, 23 °C) and high temperature (HT, 55 °C) for 2, 4, and 6 min. The control group received no treatment (NT). Cleaning efficiency was assessed through rheological analysis, weight measurement, transparency evaluation, SEM imaging, 3D geometry evaluation, stress relaxation, and cell viability tests. Results showed increased temperature and longer centrifugation times significantly reduced aligner viscosity, weight (P < 0.05), and transmittance. IPA-cleaned aligners exhibited significantly lower transparency and rougher surfaces in SEM images. All groups met ISO biocompatibility standards in cytotoxicity tests. The NT group had higher root mean square (RMS) values, indicating greater deviation from the original design. Stress relaxation tests revealed over 95% recovery in all groups after 60 min. The findings suggest that a 2-min HT centrifugation process effectively removes uncured resin without significantly impacting the aligners' physical and optical properties, making it a clinically viable option. Simple Summary: Our comprehensive study using camera traps in the Halla Mountain Wetland offers significant insights into the temporal activities and habitat preferences of Passerine birds. Key findings include distinct morning activities in species such as Cyanoptila cyanomelana and Horornis canturians and afternoon peaks in others such as Muscicapa dauurica. We observed a preference for wetlands and an underutilization of grasslands, indicating complex species–habitat interactions. Additionally, our study highlights the impact of population density on habitat usage and reveals substantial variations in seasonal activity among different species, demonstrating their adaptive strategies. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the ecological dynamics and niche partitioning within these bird communities. However, the fixed field of view and intermittent recording capability of camera traps can miss certain activities, and external factors such as weather and human presence can influence the observed behavior. While providing valuable insights, this study underscores the need to integrate camera trap data with other observational methods for a more comprehensive understanding of avian behavior. This study analyzed 5322 camera trap photographs from Halla Mountain Wetland, documenting 1427 independent bird sightings of 26 families and 49 species of Passeriformes. Key observations include morning activities in Cyanoptila cyanomelana and Horornis canturians and afternoon activity in Muscicapa dauurica and Phoenicurus auroreus. Wetlands were significantly preferred (P_i = 0.398) despite their smaller area, contrasting with underutilized grasslands (P_i = 0.181). Seasonal activity variations were notable, with overlap coefficients ranging from 0.08 to 0.81 across species, indicating diverse strategies in resource utilization and thermoregulation. Population density was found to be a critical factor in habitat usage, with high-density species showing more consistent activity patterns. The study's results demonstrate the ecological adaptability of Passeriformes in the Halla Mountain Wetland while highlighting the limitations of camera trapping methods. These limitations include their fixed field of view and intermittent recording capability, which may not fully capture the spectrum of complex avian behaviors. Guided bone regeneration aided by the application of occlusive membranes is a promising therapy for diverse inflammatory periodontal diseases. Symbiosis, homeostasis between the host microbiome and cells, occurs in the oral environment under normal, but not pathologic, conditions. Here, we develop a symbiotically integrating occlusive membrane by mimicking the tooth enamel growth or multiple nucleation biomineralization processes. We perform human saliva and in vivo canine experiments to confirm that the symbiotically integrating occlusive membrane induces a symbiotic healing environment. Moreover, we show that the membrane exhibits tractability and enzymatic stability, maintaining the healing space during the entire guided bone regeneration therapy period. We apply the symbiotically integrating occlusive membrane to treat inflammatory-challenged cases in vivo, namely, the open and closed healing of canine premolars with severe periodontitis. We find that the membrane promotes symbiosis, prevents negative inflammatory responses, and improves cellular integration. Finally, we show that guided bone regeneration therapy with the symbiotically integrating occlusive membrane achieves fast healing of gingival soft tissue and alveolar bone.Symbiosis should be maintained during the oral regeneration period. This in vitro study evaluated comprehensively the performances of zirconia brackets with varying yttria proportions in manufacturing advanced orthodontic brackets. Three experimental groups of zirconia brackets were fabricated using yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) materials with different yttria proportions—3 mol% yttria (3Y-YSZ), 4 mol% yttria (4Y-YSZ), and 5 mol% yttria (5Y-YSZ) (Tosoh Ceramic, Japan). A polycrystalline alumina ceramic bracket (3M™ Clarity™ Advanced, MBT 0.022-in. slot) was employed as the control group. Morphological properties, including slot surface structure and dimensions, were examined using scanning electron microscopy and surface profiler analysis. Manufacturing accuracy was assessed with root mean square calculations of trueness and precision. Mechanical properties were tested, encompassing static and kinetic frictional resistance (FR) and fracture strength. Optical stability was evaluated through 20,000 cycles of thermocycling and a 7-day immersion in various coloring agents. Within the limitations of this study, zirconia brackets containing 3 to 5 mol% YSZ presented enhanced reliability in terms of dimensional accuracy and demonstrated favorable optical stability. As the technologies for treating diseases are attracting continuous attention, physical therapy methods, particularly electrical stimulation (ES), have been widely investigated owing to their high effectiveness. As ES essentially requires an external power source, various efforts are being devoted to achieving the application of ES to the human body using nanogenerators. Various studies have verified the effect of ES by applying the same output generated by the device to in vitro and in vivo bio‐electrical stimulation. However, it is unknown whether the electrical output generated by the device can be transmitted equally in the cell unit, and this is considered a common missing link in bio‐electrical stimulation research. Herein, the missing link between electrical devices and in vitro bio‐electrical stimulations is unraveled by the ex vivo, 2D simulation, and in vitro study of body‐mediated energy transfer (BmET) models. The present study compared the thickness and gap width of thermoformed and 3D-printed clear aligners (CAs) using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and evaluated their translucency using spectrophotometer. Four groups of CAs were tested: thermoformed with polyethylene terephthalate glycol (TS) or copolyester-elastomer combination (TM), and 3D-printed TC-85 cleaned with alcohol (PA) or with centrifuge (PC). CIELab coordinates were measured (n = 10) to evaluate translucency. CAs (n = 10) were fitted onto respective models and micro-CT was performed to evaluate the thickness and gap width. Thickness and gap width were measured for different tooth type and location in sagittal sections on all sides. The PC group showed significantly higher translucency than the PA group, which was similar to the TS and TM groups (p < 0.01). After the manufacturing process, thickness reduction was observed in the thermoformed groups, whereas thickness increase was observed in the 3D printed-groups. The TM group showed the least gap width amongst the groups (p < 0.01). Thermoformed and 3D-printed CAs had significantly varied thicknesses and regions of best fit depending on the tooth type and location. To compare skeletal and dentoalveolar changes of miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) according to the length of the miniscrews. This two-arm parallel-randomized controlled trial included 32 adult patients aged 19–35 years who received orthodontic treatment with MARPE. Patients were allocated to two groups, group long (L) and short (S), through block randomization according to the length of the miniscrews installed in MARPE. Cone-beam computed tomography was performed before expansion and after removal of the MARPE; superimposition of the images was conducted. The primary outcome included the amount of bone expansion and the change in the inclination of the anchorage teeth. The secondary outcome included the success rate of midpalatal suture opening and stability of the miniscrews. Blinding was performed during outcome assessment. The final sample comprised 31 patients. There was no significant difference in patient characteristics between group L (n = 16) and group S (n = 15). The change in the width of the processus zygomaticus (P =.010) and ectocanine (P =.001) was significantly higher in group L. A significantly higher success rate of the posterior miniscrews was seen in group L (P =.024). There was no statistically significant difference in the success rate of suture separation or change in tooth inclination. Notable complications were not reported. MARPE with longer miniscrews can increase the amount of expansion of the maxillary basal bone and canine alveolar bone. Plant secondary metabolites are bioactive scaffolds that are crucial for plant survival in the environment and to maintain a defense mechanism from predators. These compounds are generally present in plants at a minimal level and interestingly, they are found to have a wide variety of therapeutic values for humans. Several medicinal plants are used for pharmaceutical purposes due to their affordability, fewer adverse effects, and vital role in traditional remedies. Owing to this reason, these plants are exploited at a high range worldwide and therefore many medicinal plants are on the threatened list. There is a need of the hour to tackle this major problem, one effective approach called elicitation can be used to enhance the level of existing and novel plant bioactive compounds using different types of elicitors namely biotic and abiotic. This process can be generally achieved by in vitro and in vivo experiments. The current comprehensive review provides an overview of biotic and abiotic elicitation strategies used in medicinal plants, as well as their effects on secondary metabolites enhancement. Further, this review mainly deals with the enhancement of biomass and biosynthesis of different bioactive compounds by methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and salicylic acid (SA) as elicitors of wide medicinal plants in in vitro by using different cultures. The present review was suggested as a significant groundwork for peers working with medicinal plants by applying elicitation strategies along with advanced biotechnological approaches. The present study aimed to evaluate the performance of automated skeletal maturation assessment system for Fishman's skeletal maturity indicators (SMI) for the use in dental fields. Skeletal maturity is particularly important in orthodontics for the determination of treatment timing and method. SMI is widely used for this purpose, as it is less time-consuming and practical in clinical use compared to other methods. Thus, the existing automated skeletal age assessment system based on Greulich and Pyle and Tanner-Whitehouse3 methods was further developed to include SMI using artificial intelligence. This hybrid SMI-modified system consists of three major steps: (1) automated detection of region of interest; (2) automated evaluation of skeletal maturity of each region; and (3) SMI stage mapping. The primary validation was carried out using a dataset of 2593 hand-wrist radiographs, and the SMI mapping algorithm was adjusted accordingly. The performance of the final system was evaluated on a test dataset of 711 hand-wrist radiographs from a different institution. The system achieved a prediction accuracy of 0.772 and mean absolute error and root mean square error of 0.27 and 0.604, respectively, indicating a clinically reliable performance. Background: The purpose of this study is to evaluate stability of vertical dimension following total arch intrusion using miniscrews by measuring the change during treatment and relapse amount after more than one year of retention. Methods: Thirty patients (6 men, 24 women) were included in this study. Lateral cephalographs were taken with conventional radiography at the start of treatment (T0), after treatment (T1), and at least one year after treatment (T2). The evaluation was performed by measuring changes of selected parameters during treatment and the extent of relapse after more than one year. Results: During total arch intrusion treatment (T1-T0), anterior and posterior teeth intruded significantly. The mean vertical distance between the maxillary posterior teeth and palatal plane was reduced by 2.30 mm (P < 0.001). The mean vertical distance between the maxillary anterior teeth and palatal plane was reduced by 2.04 mm (P < 0.001). The anterior facial height was also reduced by 2.70 mm (P < 0.001). During retention period (T2-T1), the vertical distance between the maxillary anterior teeth and the palatal plane significantly increased by 0.92 mm (P < 0.001). The anterior facial height increased by 0.81 mm (P < 0.01). Conclusions: Anterior facial height significantly decreases after treatment. During retention period, relapse of AFH and maxillary anterior teeth observed. There was no correlation between initial amount of AFH, mandibular plane angle, or SNPog and posttreatment AFH relapse. Biofilms induce microbial-mediated surface roughening and deterioration of cement. In this study, zwitterionic derivatives (ZD) of sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA) and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine, were added in concentrations of 0, 1, and 3% to three different types of commercially available resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) (RMC-I: RelyX Luting 2, RMC-II: Nexus RMGI, and RMC-III: GC FujiCEM 2). The unmodified RMGICs served as the control group for comparison. The resistance of Streptococcus mutans to ZD-modified RMGIC was evaluated with a monoculture biofilm assay. The following physical properties of the ZD-modified RMGIC were assessed: wettability, film thickness, flexural strength, elastic modulus, shear bond strength, and failure mode. The ZD-modified RMGIC significantly inhibited biofilm formation, with at least a 30% reduction compared to the control group. The addition of ZD improved the wettability of RMGIC; however, only 3% of the SBMA group was statistically different (P < 0.05). The film thickness increased in proportion to the increasing ZD concentrations; there was no statistical difference within the RMC-I (P > 0.05). The experimental groups' flexural strength, elastic modulus, and shear bond strength showed an insignificant decrease from the control group; there was no statistical difference within the RMC-I (P > 0.05). The mode of failure differed slightly in each group, but all groups showed dominance in the adhesive and mixed failure. Analysis of spatiotemporal partitioning is pivotal to shed light on interspecific coexistence. Most research efforts have involved large-sized carnivores and their prey species, whereas little attention has been given to ungulate in the predator-free ecosystems. We assessed seasonal activity patterns and spatiotemporal overlap among the Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus tianschanicus) and its sympatric species through camera-trapping from October 2017 and September 2020 in Jeju Island, South Korea. Trap events when compared seasonally, roe deer show higher activity in summer (34.9%), a pronounced low in winter (14.1%), and a moderate in autumn (23.8%) and in spring (26.9%). Roe deer exhibited bimodal activity patterns and had the highest spatiotemporal overlap and composite score with sika deer (Cervus nippon). Our results are among the few available data on the interaction of sympatric species and suggest strong overlapping with sika deer. To investigate the relationship between circummaxillary sutures and miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) success in adult male patients and to evaluate the correlation between the width of the sutures and the maxilla expansion ratio. This retrospective study comprised 40 adult male patients treated with MARPE divided into a separation group (N = 20, mean age, 21.9 years) consisting of subjects with midpalatal suture opening and a nonseparation group (N = 20, mean age, 21.7 years) consisting of subjects with no midpalatal suture opening. Cone-beam computed tomography images were obtained before MARPE expansion for both groups and after expansion for the separation group. Vertical and horizontal skeletal relationships, palate length, and widths of 10 circummaxillary sutures before expansion were compared. The correlation between maxilla expansion ratio (jackscrew expansion to maxillary expansion ratio) and circummaxillary suture widths was also analyzed in the separation group. There were no significant differences in age, vertical and horizontal skeletal relationships, and palate length between the two groups. Zygomaticomaxillary, pterygomaxillary, midpalatal, and transverse palatine sutures showed significantly greater width in the separation group (P <.05). The zygomaticomaxillary suture showed the greatest difference (Δ = 0.36 mm) between the groups. The zygomaticomaxillary and pterygomaxillary sutures showed significant positive correlation with the maxilla expansion ratio (P <.01). In adult male patients, greater circummaxillary suture widths before MARPE expansion, especially zygomaticomaxillary and pterygomaxillary sutures, resulted in a better chance of successful suture separation and more maxillary expansion. Low dose and accessibility have increased the application of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Often serial images are captured for patients to diagnose and plan treatment in the craniofacial region. However, CBCT images are highly variable and lack harmonious reproduction, especially in the head's orientation. Though user-defined orientation methods have been suggested, the reproducibility remains controversial. Here, we propose a landmark-free reorientation methodology based on principal component analysis (PCA) for harmonious orientation of serially captured CBCTs. We analyzed three serial CBCT scans collected for 29 individuals who underwent orthognathic surgery. We first defined a region of interest with the proposed protocol by combining 2D rendering and 3D convex hull method, and identified an intermediary arrangement point. PCA identified the y-axis (anterioposterior) followed by the secondary x-axis (transverse). Finally, by defining the perpendicular z-axis, a new global orientation was assigned. The goodness of alignment (Hausdorff distance) showed a marked improvement (> 50%). Furthermore, we clustered cases based on clinical asymmetry and validated that the protocol was unaffected by the severity of the skeletal deformity. Therefore, it could be suggested that integrating the proposed algorithm as the preliminary step in CBCT evaluation will address a fundamental step towards harmonizing the craniofacial imaging records. To overcome this limitation, the present study aimed to introduce a new method of analyzing soft tissue data reconstructed by marching cube algorithm (Program S) and compare it with a commercially available program (Program A). Cone-beam computed tomography images of 42 patients were included. Two orthodontists digitized six landmarks (pronasale, columella, upper and lower lip, right and left cheek) twice using both programs in two-week intervals, and the reliability was compared. Furthermore, computer-calculated point (CC point) was developed to evaluate whether human error could be reduced. The results showed that the intra- and inter-examiner reliability of Program S (99.7–100% and 99.9–100%, respectively) were higher than that of Program A (64.0–99.9% and 76.1–99.9%, respectively). Moreover, the inter-examiner difference of coordinate values and distances for all six landmarks in Program S was lower than Program A. Lastly, CC point was provided as a consistent single point. Controlling of thickness profile in micro‐scale pixels via an inkjet printing process remains a challenge and strict control of surface energy is required. Herein, the surface energy of each substrate is controlled by using CF4 plasma treatment (CPT) to control thickness profile and improve color conversion efficiency (CCE) of the inkjet printed quantum dots (QDs) color conversion layer (CCL). The bank surface becomes hydrophobic due to the fluorination, while the glass becomes hydrophilic due to the cleaning effect by the CPT. Through a systemic investigation of the polar and non‐polar components of the surface energy, it is found that the ink behavior of inkjet‐printed QDs in the pixels is closely related to the non‐polar component of the surface energy. In addition, it is found that more rigorous control of the surface is required for array printing and a wide range of thickness profile control is possible by CPT. The thickness increases by up to 10 µm, the blue leakage is reduced by 26.38%, and the CCE increases by a maximum of 5.71% depending on the CPT. Orthodontic facemasks are extraoral orthodontic appliances that influence maxillary and mandibular development in children with skeletal Class III malocclusion. While a facemask is most effective in patients before the growth spurt, skin irritation is common during the treatment. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to investigate the prevalence and pattern of such skin changes and identify their possible associated risk factors. We included 177 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion who underwent facemask therapy. Patient age and sex, orthodontic parameters expressing the severity of malocclusion, the presence of complaints in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) areas, and the level of patient cooperation were evaluated. Additionally, the severity and onset time of skin reactions were further analyzed. The results indicated that 43.5% of patients developed skin changes typical of irritant contact dermatitis. Skin irritation was significantly associated with the presence of TMJ complaints and female sex. Furthermore, skin irritation was more common in younger patients. Clinicians should pay special attention to the skin areas that come into contact with the appliance during each follow-up visit to detect potential problems. Colonization of auto-polymerized acrylic resin by pathogenic Candida albicans is a common problem for denture users. In this study, zinc-modified phosphate-based glass was introduced into an auto-polymerized acrylic resin at concentrations of 3, 5, and 7 wt.%. The mechanical or physical properties (flexural strength, elastic modulus, microhardness, and contact angle), surface morphology of the resultant materials, and the antimicrobial effect on C. albicans were investigated. There were no statistical differences in the mechanical properties between the control and the zinc-modified phosphate-based glass samples (p > 0.05); however, the number of C. albicans colony-forming units was significantly lower in the control group (p < 0.05). Scanning electron microscopy revealed that C. albicans tended not to adhere to the zinc-modified-phosphate-based glass samples. Thus, the zinc-modified materials retained the advantageous mechanical properties of unaltered acrylic resins, while simultaneously exhibiting a strong antimicrobial effect in vitro. This cross-sectional study aimed to classify the radiographical characteristics of impacted maxillary canines that were surgically exposed following orthodontic traction and to find out which factor is most closely related to traction duration. This study enrolled 74 patients with 87 maxillary canines. Cone-beam computed tomography images, panoramic radiographs, and medical records were analyzed. Cystic-appearing lesion and resorption of adjacent roots were observed in 26.4% and 23.0% of cases, respectively. Impacted maxillary canines were mostly distributed in the lateral incisor area. The mean (± standard deviation) traction duration for the 47 teeth that met the study criteria was 13.9 (± 8.9) months. Impacted maxillary canines treated with surgical exposure and orthodontic traction showed increasing possibilities of palatal impaction and resorption of the adjacent root as they were located mesially (p < 0.05). The distance from the occlusal plane to the impacted maxillary canine showed the strongest positive correlation with traction duration (r = 0.519, p < 0.01). When establishing treatment plans for patients with impacted maxillary canines, distance from the occlusal plane to the impacted canines, rather than the angle, should be considered in predicting the duration of treatment. Calcium silicate cement (CSC) is widely used as an endodontic material in clinical applications such as direct pulp capping, pulpotomy, or root canal. CSC has good biocompatibility, sealing properties, and the ability to enhance hard tissue regeneration. However, the disadvantage of CSC is the difficulty in handling when placing it into endodontic tissue due to the long setting time. Several attempts have been made to improve handling of CSC; however, these methods were limited by osteogenic properties. To overcome such a disadvantage, this study investigated the use of Pluronic F127 (F127) for the development easy-to-handle novel endodontic CSCs with osteogenic properties. In this case, different concentrations of F127 (5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%) were implemented to generate CSC specimens H5, H10, H20, H30, and H40, respectively. Calcium ion was continuously released for 28 days. In addition, each group resulted in apatite formation for 28 days corresponding to calcium ion release. The concentration of F127 showed opposite relationships with water solubility and compressive strength. The H20 group showed a high level of osteogenic activity compared to other groups at 14 days. Mineralization of the H20 group was higher than that of the other groups. This study indicates that the novel F127-based hydrogel with CSC can potentially be used as endodontic filler. There are few data about Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) in children, particularly in developed countries. This study investigated the clinical characteristics and prognosis of the clinical PCP in non-HIV-infected Korean children. Children with positive results for the staining and/or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for P. jirovecii between 2001 and 2021 were identified. Patients were grouped into clinical PCP, which comprised proven and modified probable cases, and non-PCP groups. Modified probable PCP (mp-PCP) indicate the case which P. jirovecii was detected by conventional PCR rather than real-time PCR test. The differences in demographic and clinical characteristics were analyzed between the groups. A total of 110 pneumonia cases with positive results for P. jirovecii PCR and/or stain were identified from 107 children. Of these, 28.2% were classified as non-PCP, 12.7% of proven PCP, and 59.1% of mp-PCP. Compared with the non-PCP group, the mp-PCP group had a significantly higher rate of solid organ transplantation (3.2% vs. 24.6%), fever (58.1% vs. 76.9%), tachypnea (25.8% vs. 66.2%), dyspnea (48.4% vs. 83.1%), desaturation (48.4% vs. 80.0%), and bilateral ground-glass opacity on chest radiograph (19.4% vs. 73.8%). However, when the mp-PCP group was compared with the proven PCP group, there was no statistically significant difference. For children with clinical PCP, age under 5 years of age (odds ratio [OR] 10.7), hospital-onset (OR 6.9), and desaturation as initial symptom (OR 63.5) were significant risk factors for death in multivariable analysis. Modified probable PCP might reliably reflect true PCP in terms of patient's demographic, clinical features, treatment response, and prognosis. Immunocompromised children with hospital-onset pneumonia who are younger than 5 years of age and have desaturation would be more cautiously and aggressively managed for survival through the screening for P. jirovecii by conventional PCR on appropriate lower respiratory specimens. A facial scanner and three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) were used to evaluate the three-dimensional change in lip asymmetry before and after two-jaw surgery for 22 patients with facial asymmetry (menton deviation > 3 mm). We used the labrale superius (Ls), deviated/non-deviated-side cheilions (Ch-D/Ch-ND), and labrale inferius (Li) to construct the upper and lower lip planes to evaluate the lip asymmetry. A correlation analysis was performed to determine the factors related to the vertical change in the cheilions (ΔChZ-D/ND). In the transverse axis, Ch-D and Li moved to improve the asymmetry after surgery. All landmarks, except the Ls, moved backward in the anteroposterior axis. In the vertical axis, significant upward movement was observed in all hard tissue landmarks; however, there were no significant changes in the soft tissue. In the lip plane, the difference in the height of Ch-D and Ch-ND was significantly reduced (1.38 mm vs. 0.72 mm). In the anteroposterior axis, the ΔChZ-D/ND showed significant correlations with the mandibular setback. In the vertical axis, the ΔCh-ND showed significant correlations with the maxillary impaction of the non-deviated side. This study evaluates the accuracy and efficiency of automatic tooth segmentation in digital dental models using deep learning. We developed a dynamic graph convolutional neural network (DGCNN)-based algorithm for automatic tooth segmentation and classification using 516 digital dental models. We segmented 30 digital dental models using three methods for comparison: (1) automatic tooth segmentation (AS) using the DGCNN-based algorithm from LaonSetup software, (2) landmark-based tooth segmentation (LS) using OrthoAnalyzer software, and (3) tooth designation and segmentation (DS) using Autolign software. We evaluated the segmentation success rate, mesiodistal (MD) width, clinical crown height (CCH), and segmentation time. For the AS, LS, and DS, the tooth segmentation success rates were 97.26%, 97.14%, and 87.86%, respectively (p < 0.001, post-hoc; AS, LS > DS), the means of MD widths were 8.51, 8.28, and 8.63 mm, respectively (p < 0.001, post hoc; DS > AS > LS), the means of CCHs were 7.58, 7.65, and 7.52 mm, respectively (p < 0.001, post-hoc; LS > DS, AS), and the means of segmentation times were 57.73, 424.17, and 150.73 s, respectively (p < 0.001, post-hoc; AS < DS < LS). This report describes the case of a 12-year-old female patient with a long mandible experiencing difficulty chewing with the right molar. Considering the age of the patient, bone-anchored maxillary protraction using four miniplates placed below the maxillary zygomatic arch and anterior symphysis of the mandible and Class III intermaxillary elastics were planned. After 12 months, orthodontic treatment was initiated. After extraction of the impacted maxillary right second premolar and mandibular right second primary molar, protraction of the mandibular right molars was performed using a miniplate placed on the anterior part of the mandible as an anchor. Miniscrews were placed in the left posterior part of the mandible to improve the molar relationship and correct the dental midline through distalization of the mandibular left posterior teeth. Two distinct I Cyt i B haplotypes of sika deer were found in the nine I CytB i sequences obtained in this study, reflecting the two previously introduced populations of sika deer on Jeju Island. Samples Collection and Laboratory Procedure Nine sika deer tissue samples were obtained from roadkill (two samples) and the World Natural Heritage Headquarters (WNHH) in Jeju (seven samples), collected under the invasive deer population control program of the local government. Background: This prospective randomized clinical trial aimed to evaluate the immediate and short-term skeletal, dentoalveolar, and periodontal effects of rapid palatal expansion (RPE) and miniscrew-assisted RPE (MARPE) in adolescent and young adult patients. Methods: This study followed a two-arm, parallel, randomized clinical trial design that recruited patients with transverse maxillary deficiency in a 1:1 allocation ratio. Forty patients (14 men and 26 women) requiring maxillary expansion were randomly allocated to the RPE (n = 20, age = 14.0 ± 4.5) or MARPE (n = 20, age = 14.1 ± 4.2) groups. The assignment was performed via computer-generated block randomization, with a block size of four. Upon identical (35 turns) amount of expansion, low-dose cone-beam computed tomography images were taken before treatment (T0), immediately after expansion (T1), and after a 3-month consolidation period (T2). The primary outcome of this study comprised the assessment of midpalatal suture separation. Secondary outcomes included, skeletal, dentoalveolar, and periodontal measurements, which were performed at each time point. Results: The frequency of midpalatal suture separation was 90% (18/20) and 95% (19/20) for the RPE and MARPE groups, respectively. A greater increase in nasal width in the molar region (M-NW) and greater palatine foramen (GPF) was observed immediately after the expansion (T1-T0) and consolidation periods (T2-T0) in the MARPE group compared to the RPE group (P < 0.05). The MARPE and RPE groups showed similar dentoalveolar changes except for the maxillary width (PM-MW, M-MW). The MARPE group presented greater bilateral first premolar (PM-MW) and molar (M-MW) maxillary width in relation to the RPE group (P < 0.05). Through the expansion and consolidation periods (T2-T0), lesser buccal displacement of the anchor teeth was observed in the MARPE group (PM-BBPT, PM-PBPT, M-BBPT [mesial and distal roots], and M-PBPT)(P < 0.05). Conclusions: Midpalatal suture separation was observed in 90% and 95% of patients in the RPE and MARPE groups, respectively. Both RPE and MARPE groups exhibited significant triangular basal bone expansion and skeletal relapse during consolidation. Under identical amounts of expansion, the MARPE group showed lower decrease in the skeletal, dentoalveolar and periodontal variables after consolidation. The reinforcement of RPE with miniscrews contributes to the maintenance of the basal bone during consolidation period. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the success rate and the amount of suture separation after the miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) procedure in relation to the chronological age and sex of the patients. Materials and methods: The periapical radiographs of 215 subjects (95 male; 120 female; range, 6–60 years) who had undergone MARPE treatment were retrospectively analyzed. The success of suture separation was determined and, in suture-separated subjects, the amount of suture separation was evaluated by suture separation ratio calculated from the periapical radiograph obtained after active expansion. Association tests were performed using linear-by-linear association, the Jonckheere-Terpstra test, Fisher's exact test, and the Mann–Whitney U test, and linear regression models were also developed. Results: The success rate of suture separation was 61.05% in male, 94.17% in female, and 79.53% in both sexes. There was a statistically significant association between older age and suture nonseparation in male (p < 0.001), but not in female (p = 0.221). In suture-separated subjects, there was a statistically significant trend toward a low amount of suture separation with older age subgroups in both sexes (p < 0.001); however, there was no statistically significant difference in the amount of suture separation between male and female in all age subgroups. Conclusions: Older patients treated with MARPE, particularly in male, may have a reduced likelihood of both success in suture separation and sufficient basal bone expansion. Objectives: This study investigated the association of changes in cementum protein-1 (CEMP-1), dentine phosphoprotein (DPP), and c-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX-I) levels in human gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) under constant load with external root resorption volume and amount of tooth movement. Materials and methods: In total, 11 healthy adult patients (mean age, 23.5 years [range, 18.3–37.7]; four men and seven women) were enrolled. GCF samples were obtained from premolars at T0, T1 (1 day), T2 (1 week), T3 (2 weeks), T4 (4 weeks), and T5 (8 weeks) under constant 100-gm buccal tipping force. Opposite premolars were used as controls. Teeth were extracted at T5, followed by quantification of external root resorption volume and histological analysis. Results: In the test group, T5/T0 ratios of CEMP-1 and DPP levels, differential CEMP-1 levels between T5 and T0, and differential DPP levels between T2 and T0 correlated positively with root resorption volume (r = 0.734, 0.730, 0.627, and 0.612, respectively, all p < 0.05). CEMP-1 levels at T0 and T3 correlated negatively with root resorption volume (r = −0.603 and −0.706; all p < 0.05). CTX-I levels at T5 correlated positively with the amount of tooth movement (r = 0.848, p < 0.01). Conclusions: Alterations in CEMP-1 and DPP levels in human GCF at specific timepoints during orthodontic treatment may be associated with different degrees of external root resorption. Clinical relevance: This study demonstrates that changes in the levels of tissue-specific biomarkers in GCF may facilitate early detection of external root resorption during orthodontic tooth movement. To elucidate genetic factors affecting orthodontic treatment duration, we employed targeted next-generation sequencing on DNA from the saliva of 117 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment after premolar extraction. The clinical characteristics of patients are summarized, and the association of clinical variables with treatment duration was assessed. Patients whose treatment duration deviated from the average were classified into an extreme long group or an extreme short group. We identified nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of six genes that significantly differed in the two groups via targeted sequencing. The frequency of the CC genotypes of WNT3A, SPP1 (rs4754, rs9138), and TNFSF11, TT genotype of SPP1 (rs1126616), and GG genotype of SFRP2 was significantly higher in the extreme long group than in the short group. In the extreme short group, the TC genotype of SPP1, AA genotype of P2RX7, CT genotype of TNFSF11, and AG genotype of TNFRSF11A tended to exhibit higher frequency than in the long group. Taken together, we identified genetic polymorphisms related to treatment duration in Korean orthodontic patients undergoing premolar extraction. To date, the clinical stability of dual-thread orthodontic miniscrews has not been studied. This study aimed to compare the primary stability and long-term clinical success rate of dual-thread and cylindrical orthodontic miniscrews and to examine the association between various clinical factors and the success rate of miniscrews. A total of 145 cylindrical and 135 dual-thread miniscrews were inserted in the maxillary and mandibular buccal alveolar areas of 142 patients. The torque and Periotest (Siemens, Bensheim, Germany) values were recorded during insertion and removal. The effect of clinical variables such as sex, age, screw design, jaw, side of placement, root proximity, and site of placement on the success rate was examined using logistic regression analysis. There was no statistically significant difference (P =.595) in the overall clinical success rate between the two designs, with an overall success rate of 82.1% and 84.4% for the cylindrical and dual-thread miniscrews, respectively. Age and screw-root proximity were significantly associated with failure (P <.05). The dual-thread miniscrews did not show superior long-term stability and clinical success rate as compared with the cylindrical miniscrews. Previously, in the case of malocclusion owing to skeletal discrepancy in adults, the amount of tooth movement was limited since there was no reliable skeletal anchorage device. The only way to treat this case was by repositioning the maxilla and mandible via orthognathic surgery, but most patients are reluctant to undergo surgery owing to the risk and expenses incurred. However, with the current introduction and use of miniscrews as temporary anchorage devices, the entire dental arch can be relocated to a target position without surgery, thus broadening the scope of non‐surgical orthodontic treatment compared to the past. For a non‐surgical approach to improve skeletal discrepancy, anteroposterior, vertical and transverse displacements of the dental arch are necessary. In this case, the localization of the centre of resistance of the whole arch must precede the appliance design with an appropriate biomechanical design. Especially, in the transverse dimension, the envelope of discrepancy is reportedly narrow, and the tooth movement must accompany the orthopaedic correction involving the midpalatal suture expansion. Recently, in adults with transverse maxillomandibular discrepancy, miniscrew‐assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) can be performed. Moreover, compared to surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion, MARPE reduces the cost to the patient and achieves clinically acceptable stable maxillary expansion. In this article, we will discuss the role of total arch movement and MARPE in widening the scope of non‐surgical orthodontic treatment, despite the inherent limitations of miniscrews' mechanical aspects. Amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) have shown significant potential for application in transparent and flexible electronic devices. However, the source and drain (S/D) electrodes of IGZO TFTs with indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films can cause Schottky-like behavior in the output characteristics owing to the formation of a potential barrier between the IGZO and ITO thin films. In this study, we designed and fabricated TFTs by applying a novel ITO S/D electrode layer (375 nm) with co-sputtered IGZO and ITO thin films (125 nm) deposited at room temperature. The proposed TFT exhibits superior electric characteristics ($\mu _{\text {sat}} =35.4$ cm2/Vs) compared to those of TFTs with conventional ITO electrodes ($\mu _{\text {sat}} =9.1$ cm2/Vs) owing to its lower contact and channel resistance and the generation of a surface reaction between S/D and channel layers, creating additional oxygen vacancies at the IGZO channel region. The proposed S/D electrode could be fabricated on a glass substrate at low temperatures (below 200 °C). This study sought to test the feasibility of a newly developed plane called computed modified absolute mandibular midsagittal plane (cmAMP) based on the similarity index (SI) for evaluating the stereoscopical symmetry of the mandible by comparison with other proposed midsagittal planes. This study involved 29 adult patients (15 men, 14 women; average age, 23.1 ± 6.9 years) with skeletal Class III facial asymmetry who underwent bimaxillary orthognathic surgery. Using cone-beam computed tomography images taken before and 1 year after surgery, cmAMP with the highest SI value between the two anterior segments of the hemi-mandible was set by a computer algorithm. Results show that the SI using cmAMP had the highest value (0.83 ± 0.04) before surgery compared to the other midsagittal planes, and was not significantly different from the SI (0.80 ± 0.05) using a facial midsagittal plane (MSP) after surgery. The distance (1.15 ± 0.74 mm) and angle (2.02 ± 0.82°) between MSP and cmAMP after surgery were significantly smaller than those between MSP and other midsagittal planes. In conclusion, the cmAMP plane best matches the two anterior segments of hemi-mandible symmetrically and is the closest to MSP after orthognathic surgery in skeletal Class III patients with facial asymmetry. The plane formed by the intersection of bilateral porions (PoR and PoL) and left orbitale (OrL) is conventionally defined as the Frankfort horizontal (FH) plane. We aim to test the influence of the FH plane definition on a 3D cephalometric assessment. We selected 38 adult patients (20 males, 18 females; average age: 22.87 ± 5.17 years) without any gross asymmetry from retrospective records and traced and analyzed their cone-beam computed tomographic images. The findings were categorized into the following four groups: FH1: conventional; FH2: PoR, PoL, right orbitale (OrR); FH3: OrR, OrL, PoL; FH4: OrR, OrL, PoR. The average menton (Me) deviation from the MSP was statistically significant for the FH1 group (0.56 ± 0.27 mm; p < 0.001), compared to the FH3 (1.37 ± 1.23 mm) and FH4 (1.33 ± 1.16 mm) groups. The spatial orientation level (SOL) of the FH plane showed a marked difference (p < 0.05) between the FH2 (0.602° ± 0.503°) and FH4 (0.944° ± 0.778°) groups. The SOL of the MSP was comparatively small (p < 0.001) for FH2 (0.015° ± 0.023°) in comparison to both FH 3 (0.644° ± 0.546°) and FH 4 (0.627° ± 0.516°). Therefore, the FH plane definition can significantly influence the interpretation of cephalometric findings.
