This case study describes the adaptation process of a female sailor experiencing several career-change events and transitions. Qualitative data were collected longitudinally as part of a sport psychology consultation process. Data analysis was guided by the meta-model of adaption in sport. Along two Olympic cycles (i.e., Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), the athlete experienced multiple changes. These included two transitions between sailing classes, teaming up with a partner, long training camps, an injury, the coronavirus pandemic, and competing in major championships. Transition demands included building team cohesion and developing self-efficacy and mental strength. The athlete exhibited successful and poor adaptation. The applied work facilitating her successful adaptation is presented. Her adaptation ability developed as she progressed in her career, en route to becoming a world champion. This study explores how watching international sports is related to the identity of overseas Chinese. Starting from the social significance of mediated sports, the article constructs its conceptual framework through the symbolic power of sports, media events, imagined community, networked publics, and characteristics of the diasporic community. Based on this, the study carried out 10 interviews on the Chinese diaspora in the United Kingdom, summarized the mechanisms and ways of linking mediated sports with national unity, and revealed the factors that will probably cause change to this connection. The results show that the symbolic power of sports and the consciousness as Asian are ties of diaspora identity construction and form patriotism in sporting contexts. Meanwhile, the degree of integration into local society and their community preference are influencing the status of collective identity enhancement brought by mediated sports. Purpose: This evidence-based initiative assessed the effect of adding a mobility champion to an existing progressive mobility protocol on functional decline in hospitalized older adults as evidenced by recommended discharge to home versus an inpatient rehabilitation facility. Method: Older adults admitted from home to a 47-bed medical-surgical telemetry unit who were assessed as ambulatory, either independently or with assistance (Level 5), and with a progressive mobility order in the electronic health record were included in the initiative. Patient care associates who volunteered to be mobility champions were trained how to safely ambulate patients. Results: Patients who worked with a mobility champion were less likely to be referred to inpatient rehabilitation post discharge for further care due to functional decline. Conclusion: Mobility has a critical role in the maintenance of hospitalized older adults' functional abilities and is a determinate of their post discharge disposition. This evidence-based project was implemented and evaluated the impact of using the nurse champion model to increase compliance and facilitate best practices for developmental positioning in the NICU. Education provided by a newly developed nurse champion team reinforced the knowledge and skills needed to use developmental positioning. Measurements included compliance with documentation about positioning, nurse champions' effectiveness, and intent to use the nurse champion model. Participants included twenty-five female NICU registered nurses with varying levels of experience. The focus was on nurses caring for preterm infants that were 35 weeks or less. Electronic medical record data indicated compliance with developmental positioning for the target population. A postimplementation survey indicated participants supported use of nurse champions to implement change. This case study assessed body composition, muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, and metabolic health of the present female world champion powerlifter in the 70+ age category who started resistance exercise training at 63 years of age with no prior experience with structured exercise training. Measures of body composition (magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scanning, leg volume); strength (one-repetition maximum leg press and extension, maximum voluntary contraction, and handgrip strength); physical function (short physical performance battery); cardiorespiratory fitness (peak oxygen consumption); and metabolic health (oral glucose tolerance test) were assessed. In addition, a muscle biopsy was collected to assess muscle fiber type distribution and cross-sectional area (CSA). Where possible, data were compared with previously (un)published sex- and age-matched data using z scores. Skeletal muscle mass index was calculated by dividing limb muscle mass by height squared. Data from the control groups are expressed as mean ± 95% confidence interval. Our participant (age: 71 years; body mass: 64.5 kg; body mass index: 27.6 kg/m2) reported a good bone mineral density of 1.09 g/cm2 (T score between −1 and +1) and very low values of abdominal and organ body fat (i.e., between 20% and 70% lower compared with a reference group of postmenopausal women). In addition, she showed a 33% greater skeletal muscle mass index when compared with healthy, older female control subjects (7.9 vs. 5.9 [5.7–6.2] kg/m2; n = 61) as well as 37% greater muscle quadriceps CSA (63.8 vs. 46.6 [44.5–48.7] cm2; n = 48) and 46% greater Type II muscle fiber CSA (4,536 vs. 3,097 [2,707–3,488] μm2; n = 19). Absolute leg press muscle strength was 36% greater (190 vs. 140 [132–147] kg; n = 30) and handgrip strength was 33% greater (33 vs. 25 [23–26] kg; n = 48) when compared with healthy, age-matched controls. In conclusion, even for resistance exercise naïve individuals, starting exercise at an advanced age can lead to improvements in body composition and muscle strength allowing older adults to reduce the risk for developing metabolic syndrome, live independently, and even compete at a world class level. The objective of this study is to establish a champion physical fitness model of freestyle skiing aerials athletes, thereby enhancing athletes' competitive ability and providing a reference for scientific training and monitoring in the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. Initiated with a literature review, the study proceeded through expert interviews and questionnaire surveys to determine the physical fitness measurement items. A total of 29 elite athletes voluntarily participated in the test. Using statistical analysis, this study developed a physical fitness model based on three key aspects: indicator, weight, and quantitative models. The results indicate that the indicator model encompasses primary indicators of body morphology, physiological function, and athletic quality, along with 11 related secondary and tertiary indicators. The tertiary indicators include lean body mass, waist/height×100, lower limb length/height×100, relative maximum anaerobic power, relative maximum oxygen uptake, blood urea, 1RM barbell squat, overhead barbell squat on balance pads, side throw ball, 30-meter sprint, and 12-minute run. The weight model assigned different weight values to these indicators based on their importance in physical fitness assessments. The quantitative model, developed through factor analysis and stepwise multiple linear regression, includes the champion physical fitness characteristics model and the performance prediction model. The champion physical fitness characteristics model uses box plots to visually present the physical fitness differences between champions and other athletes, highlighting the superior physical characteristics of the champions. The performance prediction model identified training experience, relative maximum anaerobic power, 1RM barbell squat, and overhead barbell squat on balance pads as key predictive variables. Objective: This research aimed to explore the internal mechanism of transforming strategic orientation into the entrepreneurial performance of hidden champion start-ups. Methods: Based on the theory of opportunity-resource integration, the research adopted a longitudinal single-case study method to explore the opportunity-resource integration behaviors guided by the strategic orientation of Company A, and build the "orientation-behavior-performance" model. Results: The research found that internal and external factors influenced the selection of strategic orientation at each stage of hidden champion start-ups. Guided by different strategic orientations, hidden champion start-ups achieved rapid growth in entrepreneurial performance through corresponding opportunity-resource integration behaviors. Conclusion: Start-ups should flexibly choose a strategic orientation to guide the identification of opportunities and integration of resources according to the resources available at each stage. This case study examined the English soccer player Marcus Rashford's personal brand and illustrates the transformational difference celebrity athletes can make through social activism and advocacy for philanthropic causes through their skillful use of social media. It employed a textual analysis methodology and drew conceptual insights from the revised Model of Athlete Brand Image to chronicle how Rashford's social activism and philanthropy resonated with his fans, followers, and the public on social media. His authentic social activism and philanthropic advocacy for disadvantaged and vulnerable children gave the nation a "feel-good" story during the COVID-19 crisis and enhanced his personal brand image. This case study recommends that future analyses of celebrity athlete personal brands should consider including three new categories in the marketable life section of the revised Model of Athlete Brand Image: social activism, cobranding partnerships, and awards and honors. Maximal static dry, that is, on land, apneas (breath-holds) result in severe hypoxemia and hypercapnia and have easy-going and struggle phases. During the struggle phase, the respiratory muscles involuntarily contract against the closed glottis in increasing frequency and magnitude, that is, involuntary breathing movements (IBMs). IBMs during maximal static apnea have been suggested to fatigue respiratory muscles, but this has yet to be measured. Thus, the purpose of this study was to quantify respiratory muscle strength pre- and post-apneas in an elite, world champion, world record-holding apneist. To do so, maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressure maneuvers (MIP and MEP, respectively) were performed pre- and post-apnea protocol, which included three preparatory apneas with 2.5-min rest. All preparatory apneas were ended after the participant reported 7–10 IBMs. Next, he performed three maximal static dry apneas with 5-min rest in between. The participant had maximal apneas lasting 363, 408, and 460 s. Including preparatory apneas, the participant's total apnea duration was 33.4 min in 57.0 min. Following the apnea protocol, that is, pre versus post, there was no change in MIP (−124.2 vs. −123.6 cmH2O) or MEP (259.4 vs. 262.5 cmH2O). These data, albeit in a single individual, suggest that respiratory muscle strength is not impacted by maximal static breath-holds. This could be the result of training and/or be a feature of this individual that allows him to excel in this sport. NEW & NOTEWORTHY: Previous work has suggested that respiratory muscle fatigue may result from maximal breath-holds but this has not been measured. We measured respiratory muscle strength pre- and post-maximal apneas in a world champion breath-hold diver. We found no change in respiratory muscle strength following a series of apneas. Research into sport and international relations represents a growing area of academic study. However, in this period, a gap has emerged in the literature relating to former athletes entering the sphere of politics, highlighting a connection between understandings of power, consumer-based economics, and the cultural phenomenon of celebrity. This article sets out to narrate these ideas by analyzing the political rise of Vitali Klitschko, the former WBC heavyweight champion of the world, to the post of Mayor of Kiev. In so doing, the paper explains 'Klitschko's rise to political office by unpacking the relationship between celebrity and technologies of power in liquid modernity by connecting this process of social control to neoliberal economics. Through this lens, Klitschko's role in Ukrainian politics is understood to represent a broader geopolitical power struggle between the synoptic power structures of the West and an authoritarian approach to governance backed by the Kremlin. This article explores the political career and writings of Richard Champion (1743–1791), a Bristolian Quaker and merchant who acted as a local supporter and agent of the Rockingham Whigs. It aims to recover a forgotten aspect of Lewis Namier's original ambition to understand eighteenth-century politics through the perspective of relatively ordinary people such as merchants and civil servants. However, against old Namierite assumptions, as well as much of the recent historiography on the post-1760 period in British politics which focuses on a dichotomous conflict between 'radical Whigs' and 'new Tories', this article restores the importance of the Rockingham Whigs. Importantly, it shows that a commercial Dissenter such as Champion could be fully attuned to the aristocratic and party-centred interpretation of British politics associated with the Rockinghamites and Edmund Burke, and thus encourages us to consider the idea of 'aristocratic government' in inclusive and eclectic ways. The case-study of Champion demonstrates that a close reading of political correspondence from the period can confirm, as well as destabilise, the Whig history of party. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Seedlings derived from two Ohio buckeyes (Aesculus glabra Willd.) trees, the National Champion growing in Illinois, USA, and the Ohio State Champion were sampled. The National Champion grows at the northern limits of the species' native range. The Ohio State Champion grows in Huron County, Ohio, well within the eastern range of the species. We also sampled 40 adult trees growing in Ohio and Illinois. All trees were genotyped at six microsatellite loci. We found that 42 of the 44 sampled seedlings (95%) from the National Champion tree, collected over two seasons, exhibited only maternal alleles at all six microsatellite loci, indicating they were produced by self-fertilization. In contrast, all seedlings from the Ohio state champion tree (N = 48) exhibited non-maternal alleles, indicating they were produced by outcrossing. Our results suggest that when outcross pollen is not available, A. glabra will self-fertilize, but does so rarely or never when outcross pollen is available. Seed germination and early survival were similar for progeny of both champions, but seedlings from the National Champion show lower growth rates and higher mortality during a spring frost, possibly due to inbreeding depression. Background: Apalochrini is a tribe of the family Melyridae characterised by the shortened pedicel, with 13 genera recorded in China at present. Dicranolaius Champion and Intybia Pascoe of Apalochrini are distributed in Asia and Southeast Asia, with the former genus extending to Australia, but not being found in China. In a recent expedition in the mangrove forests of Zhangzhou City (Fujian Province), eastern China, specimens of D. mangalicola Asano ＆ Kawashima, 2010 and I. swatowensis (Wittmer, 1956) were collected. New information: Dicranolaius Champion is recorded from China for the first time and I. swatowensis is newly recorded for Fujian Province. Diagnostic characters of D. mangalicola is provided and I. swatowensis is re-described in details. An updated key to genera of the Chinese Apalochrini, based on male characters, is given. Data assets serve functions such as value preservation and appreciation, financing, and value creation. They contain extensive information about enterprises' operational status and future development prospects, providing significant references for external investors' decision-making and greatly impacting the information efficiency in capital market. This study examines the correlation between data assetization and capital market information efficiency, along with the mechanisms and influencing factors involved. We select a sample of Chinese Hidden Champion small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 2011 to 2021, utilize text analysis methods to build a data assets dictionary, and extract keywords from corporate annual reports to depict the level of data assetization. The research results indicate that data assetization significantly enhances the information efficiency of capital market, specifically reducing stock price synchronicity and stock price delay. By categorizing data assets into own-use data assets and transactional data assets, we find that both types can improve the information efficiency of the capital market. Mechanism analysis reveals that enterprise data assetization can enhance the information efficiency of capital market by alleviating corporate financing constraints and improving forward-looking information disclosure. Factors analysis demonstrates that digital infrastructure and data circulation transactions can strengthen the enhancement effect of data assetization on the information efficiency of capital market. This study enriches the research outcomes in the micro-research field of data assets, providing valuable insights for promoting the digital transformation of Hidden Champion SMEs and the high-quality development of capital market. This study compared the muscle and tendon morphology of an extraordinarily strong individual, a World's Strongest Man and deadlift champion (WSM), with that of various other athletic, trained, and untrained populations. The WSM completed the following: 1) 3.0-T MRI scans, to determine the volume of 22 individual lower limb muscles, 5 functional muscle groups, patellar tendon (PT) cross-sectional area (CSA), and PT moment arm; and 2) countermovement jumps (CMJ) and isometric midthigh pull (IMTP) contractions. The WSM was compared with previously assessed groups from our laboratory (muscle and tendon) and the wider research literature (CMJ and IMTP). The WSM's CMJ peak power (9,866 W) and gross (9,171 N) and net (7,480 N) IMTP peak forces were higher than any previously published values. The WSM's overall measured leg muscle volume was approximately twice that of untrained controls (+96%) but with pronounced anatomical variability in the extent of muscular development. The plantar flexor group (+120%) and the guy rope muscles (sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus: +140% to +202%), which stabilize the pelvis and femur, demonstrated the largest differences relative to that of untrained controls. The WSM's pronounced quadriceps size (greater than or equal to twofold vs. untrained) was accompanied by modest PT moment arm differences and, notably, was not matched by an equivalent difference in PT CSA (+30%). These results provide novel insight into the musculotendinous characteristics of an extraordinarily strong individual, which may be toward the upper limit of human variation, such that the WSM's very pronounced lower limb muscularity also exhibited distinct anatomical variability and with muscle size largely uncoupled from tendon size. NEW & NOTEWORTHY: Lower-body muscle size of an extraordinarily strong individual, a World's Strongest Man and deadlift champion (WSM), was approximately twice that of controls but was underpinned by pronounced anatomical variability in the extent of muscular development (+23–202%): the plantar flexor group and guy rope muscles demonstrating the largest differences. The Fridays for Future movement has shaped public debates on climate policy all over Europe and beyond in recent years. It demands politicians to take action and fulfil the promises of the Paris Agreement. This article turns to the European Union and asks how the European Parliament met this movement. In doing so, we reflect potential tensions between its reputation as an environmental policy champion and the most direct link to the European demos on the one side and its composition of various political groups on the other side. Indeed, our analysis shows most political groups in the Parliament, even conservatives and liberals, support the movement. This is somewhat surprising given their general stances on environmental and climate policy. To explain the broad support given to Fridays for Future, we turn to the inner-parliamentary dynamics and the overall status of the Parliament in the supranational political system. The importance of champions in the implementation of evidence‐based public health programs has been well established. Champions perform a range of behaviors which can have significant influence on the adoption and sustainability of interventions. This study investigates champion behaviors in parenting practitioners with the aim to provide insight into the range and extent that practitioners engage in champion behaviors and to examine predictors of practitioners' champion behaviors using structural equation modeling. Data were collected during a large international implementation survey of 1606 practitioners trained to deliver an evidence‐based parenting program, the triple P—Positive Parenting Program. We developed a 13‐item Champion Behaviors Scale which was administered alongside other measures of predictors of implementation outcomes. Perceived usefulness of the program was the most important facilitator of both public and personal champion behaviors. Certain desirable features of the program tended to not only be positively associated with the perceived usefulness of the program, but also had a unique impact on practitioners' personal champion behaviors. Higher positions within organizations were linked with more public champion behaviors. Although organizational support was found to be unrelated to champion behaviors in the structural model, it facilitated other predictors of champion behaviors.
