This work presents the excess noise and thermoelectric (Seebeck) measurements on polycrystalline vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin films. Noise spectral power density (SPD) of current fluctuations in the semiconducting (SC) phase had a typical flicker noise (f−γ) characteristic with an average slope parameter γ of 1.13. Normalized SPD (Sn) values obtained in the SC-phase indicate that the noise originates in the bulk of the film. On the contrary, in the metallic (M)-phase, γ values were greater than unity, and the observed Sn values indicated that the origin of the noise is most likely from the contacts or surface rather than the bulk. A general decrease was observed in Sn by a factor of 4–5 from the SC- to M-phase. Moreover, Sn in the SC-phase showed no temperature dependence. An interpretation based on the number of charge carrier fluctuations in Hooge's model led to an unrealistically high Hooge parameter and had to be ruled out. We propose that the fluctuations are related to the mobility fluctuations of carriers arising primarily from grain-boundary scattering which explains the observed characteristics well. The Seebeck coefficients (S) obtained under both heating and cooling schedules showed the n-type nature of magnetron-sputtered VO2 films in the SC-phase. Differently, in the M-phase, the S value was positive. The S values obtained from the cooling schedule signified the low percolation threshold of the metal-to-insulator transition already demonstrated for VO2 thin films grown on r-cut sapphire using the Efros–Shklovskii percolation model. Background: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a critical condition characterized by rapid liver dysfunction, leading to high mortality rates. Current treatments are limited, primarily supportive, and often require liver transplantation. This study investigates the potential of a novel nanoparticle formulation of glutathione (GSH) and virgin coconut oil (VCO) alone and in combination to enhance therapeutic outcomes in a rat model of ALF induced by orogastric carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Methods: The study employed adult male Albino rats divided into ten groups, with ALF induced via a single oral dose of CCl4. Various treatment regimens were administered over seven days, including conventional and nanoparticle forms of GSH and VCO and their combinations. The efficacy of treatments was evaluated through biochemical analysis of liver function markers, oxidative stress indicators, inflammatory biomarkers, and histopathological examinations. Nanoparticles were synthesized using established methods, and characterization techniques were employed to ensure their quality and properties. Results: The nanoparticle formulations significantly improved liver function, as indicated by reduced serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, alongside decreased oxidative stress markers such as malondialdehyde. Furthermore, they reduced tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin-1 beta inflammatory markers. Histological analysis revealed reduced hepatocellular necrosis and inflammation in treated groups compared to controls. Also, decreased nuclear factor-kappa B was detected by immunohistochemical analysis. Conclusion: The findings show that the nanoparticle mixture of GSH and VCO effectively reduces liver damage in ALF. This suggests a promising drug-based approach for improving liver regeneration and protection. This innovative strategy may pave the way for new therapeutic interventions in the management of ALF. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: A rapidly increasing human population has resulted in the expansion of urban areas and an associated increase in the demand for food. Consequently, urban and peri-urban agriculture, using waste water as a source for irrigation, is increasingly common around the world, particularly in developing countries. In the Kurdistan region of Iraq, the soils within Agriculture areas have the potential to accumulate trace elements originating from various sources of contamination like municipal waste disposal and the use of wastewater for irrigation. The main aim of this study was to assess the levels and sources of trace elements in this specific region and to analyze the potential health hazards linked to toxic elements present in the soil. METHODS: Elemental analyses were conducted on soil samples using the total digestion method, involving the use of Hydrofluoric acid. Subsequently, 118 soil samples, each with a fraction size of less than 2 millimeters, were analyzed. These samples were collected from seven different urban and peri-urban agriculture areas in Sulaimani province. The analysis was carried out using Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrophotometry, which operated in collision cell mode with 7 percent hydrogen in helium to minimize polyatomic interferences. FINDINGS: The study findings indicated that the soils, with a potential hydrogen range of 7.5 to 8.18, are mainly calcareous and have textures that vary from silty loam to sandy or silty clay. Additionally, the organic matter content of these soils ranges from 1.4 percent to 5.47 percent. It was noted that soils subjected to wastewater irrigation do not show significant contamination by trace elements, whereas those affected by waste disposal sites showed high levels of chromium (134 milligrams per kilogram), copper (263 milligrams per kilogram), zinc (773 milligrams per kilogram), cadmium (4.19 milligrams per kilogram) and lead (161 milligrams per kilogram). Evaluation of enrichment factors indicates that the concentrations of trace elements generally remain within the anticipated background levels, with the exception of the municipal waste disposal site. The hazard indices derived for the trace elements indicate that the potential health risks associated with exposure routes are minimal. These indices consistently remain below the internationally recognized threshold of one, which signifies that the health concerns are insignificant fall within acceptable boundaries. CONCLUSION: The concentrations of trace elements exhibited a notable increase in locations allocated for waste disposal, demonstrating a gradual decline in comparison to other agricultural regions. Background: Genetic polymorphisms play a crucial role in predicting treatment efficacy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aims to evaluate the response to Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) in relation to the genetic polymorphisms of interleukin 28B (IL28B) and angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT2) in HCC patients. Research design and methods: Prospective cohort study conducted on 104 eligible HCC Egyptian patients who underwent TACE using doxorubicin and lipiodol. Genotyping of the IL28B and ANGPT2 genes was performed with laboratory data analysis. Results: At baseline IL28B rs12979860 genotypes C/T, C/C and T/T appeared in 43.9%, 34.6% and 21.5% while ANGPT2 rs55633437 genotypes C/C, C/A and A/A found in 71.03%, 28.04% and 0.93% of patients respectively. After one month of therapy, 51.4% of patients achieved a complete response. There was a significant difference in relation to IL28B rs12979860 genotypes (p = 0.017) whereas ANGPT2 rs55633437 genotypes (p = 0.432) showed no significant difference in patient response after one month of TACE Conclusion: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of TACE in Egyptian HCC patients, as evidenced by low recurrence rates. Furthermore, the IL28B rs12979860 (C/T) gene may be associated with the efficacy and prognosis of TACE treatment in HCC Egyptian patients. This study investigates novel polymer composites through the hybridization of jute and recently explored Rosa hybrida (RH) fiber. The jute/Rosa hybrida fiber preforms are made with various weight ratios (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, and 0/100) and then incorporated into the epoxy matrix by the hand lay-up technique to fabricate composites. Their water absorption, mechanical properties (tensile, flexural, impact, and hardness), and morphologies are then evaluated. It is found that the water absorption of composites reduces with increasing RH fiber, and the 25% jute/75% RH fiber composite displays minimum water absorption. The tensile and flexural properties, and hardness of hybrid composites decrease as the RH fiber content increases, and the hybrid comprising 75% jute and 25% RH fiber exhibits better tensile modulus and strength of 2 GPa and 41.93 MPa, and flexural modulus and strength of 1.55 GPa and 91.27 MPa, respectively, and hardness of 82.7 Shore D among other hybrids, whereas the impact strength of composites tends to enhance with rising RH fiber loading, and the hybrid of 25% jute/75% RH offers a maximum impact strength (17.67 kJ/m2) among other hybrids. Additionally, the tensile and flexural properties, hardness of 100% jute fiber composite, and impact strength of 100% RH fiber composite are found to be noteworthy. Fracture morphologies also show that composites fail because of fiber pullout, jute and RH fibers fracture, fiber-matrix debonding, and voids. This study provides some insights to promote the application of jute/RH fiber-based composites in the internal structures of automobiles (e.g., seat foundations and dashboards), aircraft (e.g., interior panels, overhead storage compartments, and seating structures), and construction (e.g., wall panels and partitions). Possible squeezed states generated in a three-waveguide nonlinear coupler operating with second harmonic generation is discussed. This study is carried out using two well-known techniques; the phase space method (based on positive-P representation) and the Heisenberg-based analytical perturbative (AP) method. The effects of key design parameters were investigated under various conditions, including full frequency matching, symmetrical and asymmetrical waveguide initialization, and both codirectional and contr-adirectional propagation. The system consistently produced long-lasting oscillatory squeezed states across all three waveguides, even when only one waveguide was pumped with coherent light while the others were in a vacuum state. Also, the performance and capacities of both methods are critically evaluated. For low levels of key design parameters and in the early stages of evolution, a high level of agreement between the two methods is noticed. This study examined how broilers up to 38 days of age fared regarding growth efficiency and carcass characteristics concerning selenium nanoparticle activities (SeNPs). A total of 180 one-week-old broiler (Cobb 500) chicks without sex were randomly allocated into three groups, each with six replications of 10 chicks. The trial took 38 days to complete. The three study dietary groups were fed ad libitum feed and water throughout their 38-day of age, along with corn-and-soybean meal-based diets supplemented with 0 (control), 1.5, and 2.0 ml SeNPs (concentration = 5%) /kg diet, respectively. According to the current findings, the SeNP supplementation groups had greater body weight, weight gain, and performance indicators than the control group after 38 days of the feeding experiment. The findings demonstrated that dietary interventions did not affect the amount of feed consumed (FC) per chick per day or the feed conversion ratio (FCR). The conclusion is that adding SeNPs to broiler diets at 1.5 or 2.0 ml/kg increased productivity. Because of the great pharmacological and industrial significance of 1,3,4-thiadiazole and its related compounds, researchers are still very interested in them. For this reason, in this study, we looked at ways to create new hybrid compounds containing carboxamide and 1,3,4-thiadiazole moieties. The thioxoacetamide derivatives used to make these compounds were reacted with various alkylated reagents to produce multiple S-alkyl groups. Additionally, these compounds were reacted with aldehydes to form novel derivatives known as 5-(substituent)-N-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-carboxamide. Here, we used the agar well diffusion method to examine the antibacterial activity of all the produced compounds against a few pathogenic bacteria that were resistant to multiple drugs. Additionally, look into their capacity to lower inflammation through the use of bovine serum albumin in the protein denaturation procedure. The substances were characterized by spectral analysis (IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and Elemental Analysis), and efficient as antibacterial agents against all the tested bacterial strains, except for Escherichia coli. Compounds 4a and 8c showed the highest level of inhibition zone against Gram-positive bacteria (Staph. aureus, Bacillus subtilis) at concentration 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 mg/ml compared with ciprofloxacin at the same concentrations. The results demonstrated that every compound has significant anti-inflammatory activity. At a concentration of 250 µg/ml, compounds 3a, 4c and 8c had the highest percentage inhibition of protein denaturation when (83.24%, 86.44% and 85.14%, respectively) compared to other compounds and diclofenac sodium as reference drug. Comparing compounds 4c and 8c to ciprofloxacin and diclofenac sodium, they showed powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action. Furthermore, an investigation using molecular docking against DHPS from S. aureus (PDB ID: 6CLV) showed a strong connection with the intended protein and an elevated docking score, making it a prime candidate for antibiotics. Microplastics (MPs, size ≤ 5 mm) have emerged as a significant worldwide concern, threatening marine and freshwater ecosystems, and the lack of MP detection technologies is notable. The main goal of this research is the development of a camera sensor for the detection of MPs and measuring their size and velocity while in motion. This study introduces a novel methodology involving computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) for the detection of MPs. Three different camera systems, including fixed-focus 2D and autofocus (2D and 3D), were implemented and compared. A YOLOv5-based object detection model was used to detect MPs in the captured image. DeepSORT was then implemented for tracking MPs through consecutive images. In real-time testing in a laboratory flume setting, the precision in MP counting was found to be 97%, and during field testing in a local river, the precision was 96%. This study provides foundational insights into utilizing AI for detecting MPs in different environmental settings, contributing to more effective efforts and strategies for managing and mitigating MP pollution. Tramadol is a utilized medication globally that is included in numerous medical guidelines for the treatment of both short-term and longterm pain. There is an increasing body of research indicating the prevalence of tramadol abuse in certain Middle East nations. Tramadol exhibits certain adverse effects. The purpose of the present investigation is examination and treatment of the histopathological reaction that may develop in the spleen following tramadol administration. The mice were treated via a dose of tramadol by daily injection for 20 days and 40 days. Additionally, groups of mice were administered tramadol for 40 days, followed by daily treatment with either distilled water, Lagenaria siceraria (L.), or melatonin (MT) for another 40 days.The administration of tramadol significantly impacted the quantity of collagen materials present in the spleen cells. As a result, modifications were observed in the typical histological structure of the spleen.Ultimately, we propose that while tramadol has various adverse effects on the spleen tissues of male mice, the use of L. and MT treatments exhibits therapeutic benefits in alleviating these tramadol-induced side effects. Employing Landau theory and the Landau–Khalatnikov (L–K) equation of motion, we investigate the phase transitions in individual layers of antiferroelectric lead zirconate (PbZrO3), ferroelectric lead zirconate titanate (PbZrTiO3), and an antiferroelectric/ferroelectric PbZrO3/PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 bilayer bulk structure. We examine the dielectric hysteresis loop behavior of the three systems, with a specific focus on the PbZrO3/PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 bilayer under different stabilities of the PbZrO3 layer. In addition, we explore cases where the coercive field of the bilayer structure is lower than that of the PbZrTiO3 individual layer. The recoverable electric energy for the PbZrO3/PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 bilayer increases significantly to 118 J/cm3 at an applied field of 7.5 × 108 V/m at 20 °C. In comparison, the PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 layer reaches 71.8 J/cm3 under the same field and temperature conditions. This is much higher than those predicted experimentally by previous studies on thin film single and bilayer structures (15.6 and 28.2 J/Cm3 respectively), indicating that the antiferroelectric/ferroelectric PbZrO3/PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 bilayer bulk structure could be used to target specific large-scale, long-term energy storage applications. Upon increasing the value of the coupling coefficient, the transition temperatures of the PbZrO3 layer and the PbZrO3/PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 bilayer are increased up to the transition temperature of the PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 individual layer (450 °C). This increment in the transition temperature in the bilayer system contributes to its stability in storing energy at higher temperatures. Furthermore, the recoverable energy density of the PbZrO3/PbZr(0.21)Ti(0.79)O3 bilayer increases further with temperature from 20 to 440 °C correlated with the rise in the difference between the spontaneous and the remanent polarizations (Ps − Pr). The significant stored energy observed over a wide temperature range highlights the promise of this bilayer structure for creating high-power capacitors where stability at different temperatures is crucial and possesses greater energy storage capacity. Chronic cadmium exposure is known to be a major health concern due to its nephrotoxic effects. Consequently, this study aimed to assess the potential protective effects of date palm fruit extract (DPFE) against cadmium-induced renal toxicity in male albino rats. A total of 48 rats were divided equally into four groups and subjected to specific treatments. Group I (control given 1 ml distal water orally daily), group II (200 mg DPFE /kg b.wt. orally daily), Group III (5 mg CdCl2 /kg b.wt. orally, twice a week), and VI (DPFE and CdCl2). Serum samples were collected after 4 and 8 weeks for biochemical analysis, and kidney tissue specimens were obtained for histopathological examination. The administration of cadmium chloride for 4 and 8 weeks resulted in a significant (p<0.05) increase in the serum creatinine, urea, and uric acid levels, indicating kidney dysfunction. Histopathological changes, including vascular lesions, hemorrhage, edema, periglomerular, perivascular and interstitial fibrosis, mononuclear leucocytic cellular infiltration and excessive glomerular and tubular degeneration and necrosis which further confirmed the nephrotoxic effects of cadmium. However, pre-treatment with DPFE exhibited a substantial ameliorative effect against cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity. DPFE supplementation led to a significant reduction in kidney biochemical parameters toward normal levels and improved renal tissue architecture. Our findings indicate that date palm fruit extract has a time-dependant protective effect on kidney function indices and histopathological alterations induced by cadmium, highlighting its potential as a natural medication to mitigate renal damage caused by chronic cadmium exposure. BACKGROUND: To reduce radiation dose and subsequent risks, several legislative documents in different countries describe the need for Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs). Spinal radiography is a common and high-dose examination. Therefore, the aim of this work was to establish the DRL for Computed Tomography (CT) examinations of the spine in healthcare institutions across Jordan. METHODS: Data was retrieved from the picture archiving and communications system (PACS), which included the CT Dose Index (CTDI (vol) ) and Dose Length Product (DLP). The median radiation dose values of the dosimetric indices were calculated for each site. DRL values were defined as the 75th percentile distribution of the median CTDI (vol) and DLP values. RESULTS: Data was collected from 659 CT examinations (316 cervical spine and 343 lumbar-sacral spine). Of the participants, 68% were males, and the patients' mean weight was 69.7 kg (minimum = 60; maximum = 80, SD = 8.9). The 75th percentile for the DLP of cervical and LS-spine CT scans in Jordan were 565.2 and 967.7 mGy.cm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This research demonstrates a wide range of variability in CTDI (vol) and DLP values for spinal CT examinations; these variations were associated with the acquisition protocol and highlight the need to optimize radiation dose in spinal CT examinations. This article examines in depth the most recent thermal testing techniques for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Temperature estimation circuits can be divided into six divisions based on modeling and calculation methods, including electrochemical computational modeling, equivalent electric circuit modeling (EECM), machine learning (ML), digital analysis, direct impedance measurement and magnetic nanoparticles as a base. Complexity, accuracy and computational cost-based EECM circuits are feasible. The accuracy, usability and adaptability of diagrams produced using ML have the potential to be very high. However, none of them can anticipate the low-cost integrated BMS in real time due to their high computational costs. An appropriate solution might be a hybrid strategy that combines EECM and ML. A plastic-type flat panel photobioreactor (PTFPP) prototype was designed for microalgae cultivation as biodiesel feedstock. The growth, biomass, and lipid production of the oleaginous microalga Scenedesmus obliquus were optimized through the enhanced design and cultivation conditions in the PTFPP. The optimization conditions include cultivation of the microalga in a flat panel photobioreactor manufactured from a 10 µm-thick plastic sheet with dimensions of 40 cm in width and 60 cm in height. The width of the designed plastic bags was adjusted by "4 ports" of circular adhesion points which make the volumetric cultural capacity 5 L. Cultivation of the microalga was optimized through the replacement of the sodium nitrate of the BBM medium with urea as a nitrogen source. Cultivation bags were subjected to continuous illumination with 3000 lux white, fluorescent lamps and aerated with 1.5 L air/min (equal to 0.3 VVM). Biomass production from the designed PTFPP reached 3 g/L with around 40% lipid content (on a dry weight basis). Based on a GC-MS analysis of the produced fatty acid methyl ester (biodiesel) from S. obliquus, the percentage of C16 and C18 fatty acids reached more than 90% of the defined fatty acids. Out of this percentage, 66.6% were unsaturated fatty acids. The produced fatty acid profile of the S. obliquus biomass cultivated in the designed PTFPP prototype could be considered a suitable feedstock for biodiesel production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Poor-quality facial images pose challenges in biometric authentication, especially in passport photo acquisition and recognition. This study proposes a novel and open-source solution to address these issues by introducing a real-time facial image quality analysis utilizing computer vision technology on a low-power single-board computer. We present an open-source complete hardware solution that consists of a Jetson processor, a 16 MP autofocus RGB camera, a custom enclosure, and a touch sensor LCD for user interaction. To ensure the integrity and confidentiality of captured facial data, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is used for secure image storage. Using the pilot data collection, the system demonstrated its ability to capture high-quality images, achieving 98.98% accuracy in storing images of acceptable quality. Objective: Retropubic midurethral sling placement (MUS) is a surgical procedure for treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in females that uses mesh to support the urethra to prevent leakage during episodes of increased abdominal pressure. Hematoma is a documented risk of MUS placement. The location of relevant pelvic vasculature was compared to pelvic bony dimensions with the aim of measuring these anatomic relationships in order to prevent hematomas during MUS placement. Materials and Methods: The superficial epigastric, inferior epigastric, external iliac, and obturator arteries were dissected bilaterally from 13 formalin-embalmed cadavers. Distance was measured to a retropubic trocar placed in the typical fashion. Anteroposterior pelvic (AP) diameter and ischial interspinous distance were recorded. SPSS was used for statistical analyses. Results: All arteries were identified lateral to the trocar site. Obturator arteries were the closest (30.60 ± 5.19 mm) and external iliac arteries were the furthest (48.08 ± 9.64 mm). There was a significant correlation between artery–trocar distance and AP diameter, but not interspinous distance. Conclusions: Major vascular structures lie in close proximity to the path of the trocar used in MUS placement for treating SUI. The female AP diameter is correlated with the distance between these vessels and the trocar—and may be a clinically useful measure to determine which patients are at increased risk for hematomas during MUS. In p-algebras, the concepts of δ -ideals and principal δ -ideals are presented, and some of their respective properties are discussed. It is observed that the set I δ (L) of all δ -ideals of a p-algebra L is a bounded lattice, and the class I p δ (L) of all principal δ -ideals forms a bounded sublattice of I δ (L) and a Boolean algebra on its own. A characterization of a δ -ideal in terms of principal δ -ideals, in p-algebras, is given. Also, the concept of comaximality of δ -ideals is discussed in p-algebras. gossypiboma is used to describe a retained surgical swab in the body after an operation. It remains an unwanted complication of surgical practice that increase morbidity and mortality of the patient and profound medico legal problems. Intra-abdominal gossypiboma can migrate in to the ileum, stomach, colon or bladder without any apparent opening in the wall of these luminal organs. Vigilant sponge counting during procedures and thorough exploration prior to closure of the abdomen, are essential practices to avoid such occurrences. Background: Reconstructing segmental bone loss defects presents a significant challenge within the field of orthopedics. The purpose of this study is to assess the clinical and radiological results of using the Ilizarov technique for tibia reconstruction following traumatic bone loss. Methods: This study was a prospective study involving 30 patients who experienced tibial bone loss in the diaphysis or metaphysis following trauma. These patients were treated with a ring fixator (Ilizarov) from March 2021 to February 2023. Unfortunately, five patients were lost to follow-up, leaving a cohort of 25 patients who were observed for a duration ranging from 9 to 12 months. Results: The current study involved 25 patients with post-traumatic tibial bone loss. The age range was 14 to 48 years, with a mean age of 28.4±8.8 years. Among the cases, 18 had a moderate defect (72%), which was significantly higher than those with a minor defect (20%) (P = 0.05). Deformity was less than 7° in most cases (96%), while only one case had deformity greater than 7° (4%) (P = 0.05(. Leg length discrepancy was less than 2.5 cm in the majority (96%), with only one case having a 3 cm length discrepancy (4%) (P = 0.05). By the end of the follow-up period, all patients showed perfect union, enabling them to engage in daily activities post-operatively. Conclusion: The success of corticotomy and solid docking relies on well-vascularized bone and soft tissue. Soft tissue compromise at the corticotomy site can hinder healthy tissue regeneration. Carnation is one of the most important ornamental plants worldwide; however, heat stress is a problem, which affects carnation cultivation. The harmful effects of heat stress include impaired vegetative development and reduced floral induction. In this study, to enhance carnation growth under conditions of heat stress, various concentrations of melatonin were added to in vitro culture media. The mechanism by which melatonin reduced heat stress damage was then studied by taking measurements of morphological parameters, levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), antioxidant enzymes, and malondialdehyde (MDA), as well as differential gene expression, in carnation plants during in vitro culture. These data revealed that untreated carnation plants were more harmed by conditions of heat stress than plants treated with melatonin. Melatonin at concentrations of 5 and 10 mM increased chlorophyll content, fresh weight, and plant height to a greater extent than other concentrations. Melatonin may, thus, be used to alleviate damage to carnations caused by heat stress. The application of melatonin was also found to reduce oxidative damage and enhance antioxidant defense mechanisms. In addition, the expression of heat-related genes was found to be upregulated; in melatonin-treated plants, an upregulation was recorded in the expression of GAPDH, DcPOD1, DcPOD2, DcPOD3, Gols1, MBF1c, HSF30, HSP101, HSP70, and sHSP (MT) genes. In short, we found that melatonin treatment increased heat tolerance in carnation plants. While most studies in disordered rock salt cathode materials focus on synthesis and electrochemical investigation, detailed investigations on their optical and thermodynamic properties are a matter of interest. Here, we report on complementary measurements of transient absorption spectroscopy, thermodynamic, and dielectric properties for Li1.3Nb0.3Fe0.4O2 (LNFO) disordered rock salt Li-excess. The structure was studied using powder x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, which showed the fine crystallization of LNFO. The ultra-fast laser spectroscopy is used to study the dynamics of charge carriers and electron–phonon coupling in the system. Our thermodynamic measurements have revealed a magnetically ordered phase with small spontaneous magnetization. The dielectric properties of LNFO illustrate high permittivity with losses at low frequencies. The present work was carried out to study the effect of different levels of Moringa Oleifera leaf meal (MOLM) content as untraditional feedingstuff constituents on ducks performance, carcass traits, blood biochemical parameters and meat chemical composition. A total of 50 mulard ducklings (two weeks old) were randomly divided into 5 groups of 10 ducklings each. The first group was considered the control group (T1) and was fed ad-libitum on a grower-finisher diets. The remaining four groups (T2, T3, T4 and T5) were fed on diets containing MOLM at levels of 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%, respectively. All diets were formulated to be isocaloric (3000 kcal/kg ME) and isonitrogenous (16% CP). The experiment was extended for 8 weeks. Growth performance parameters include body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, feed-to-gain ratio, relative growth rate, performance index, crude protein intake, protein efficiency ratio, metabolizable energy intake and calorie efficiency ratio were all recorded. At the end of the experiment, three randomly selected ducks were slaughtered to evaluate carcass characteristics, meat chemical composition and blood biochemical parameters. Results showed that there were no mortalities between ducks in all groups along the experimental periods. Ducks fed diets containing 2 and 4% MOLM had higher in body weight and weight gain than ducks fed diets containing 6 and 8% MOLM. Feeding of different levels of MOLM to ducklings had no significant effect on feed consumption. The best feed conversion ratio was recorded in group T3 followed by group T2 compared to other tested groups and control T1. Ducks in group T3 fed on 4% MOLM showed improvements in their relative growth rate (RGR) and performance index (PI) compared to other tested and control groups. There were no significant (P>0.05) differences between the control group and the other tested groups in terms of crude protein intake and protein efficiency ratio, as well as metabolizable energy intake and calorie efficiency ratio of ducks. Pre-slaughter weight, eviscerated weight and dressing weight were significantly higher in groups T2, T3 and T4 fed (2%, 4% and 6%) MOLM compared to those fed on 8% MOLM and control diets. There were no significant differences in the relative weights of the internal organs (liver, heart, proventriculus, gizzard and spleen). Supplementation of duck diets with MOLM significantly (P<0.05) increased DM, CP and EE of the breast and thigh meat compared to the control group, while ash content was not affected. There were no significant (p<0.05) differences between different experimental groups in hematological pictures, except for WBCs, lymphocytic count, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), hematocrit (HCT) and platelets (Plt). Inclusion of MOLM in duck diets reduced the serum cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations, while the serum total protein and its fractions (albumin and globulin) were not affected. It was concluded that supplementation of Moringa Oleifera leaf meal (MOLM) in duck diets had beneficial effects on the growth performance parameters, meat composition and carcass characteristics, as well as improved the immunity by increasing the number of white blood cells and lymphocytes and reduced serum triglycerides and cholesterol concentrations. Environmental pollution remains a major global health concern, particularly when it comes to heavy metals, which are associated with various health hazards. Among the prevalent heavy metals in the environment is cadmium (Cd). As a result, the current study aimed to investigate the nephroprotective potential of olive leaves extract (OLE) against Cd-induced chronic renal injury. Forty-eight albino rats were divided into four equal groups. Rats in the control group were received distilled water orally, while those in the OLE group were orally administered OLE 200 (mg/kg b.wt.) daily. The cadmium-intoxicated group rats were orally gavage 5 mg Cd/kg b.wt. twice a week and the OLE+Cd group received the same doses of both OLE and CdCl2. After 4 and 8 weeks of the experiment, blood and kidney samples were collected for analysis of kidney function test and histopathological examination. Oral administration of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) for 4 and 8 weeks resulted in nephrotoxicity, evidenced by a significant increase (P<0.05) in urea, uric acid, and creatinine levels. These biochemical changes were accompanied by distinct histopathological alterations, including renal hemorrhage, edema and vasculitis with severe glomerular and tubular necrosis as well as periglomerular fibrosis and marked interstitial fibrosis. Treatment with OLE exhibited a remarkable reduction in these histopathological changes and restored the serum parameters toward normal levels. In conclusion, OLE has a time-dependent mitigating effect against Cd-induced nephrotoxicity by reducing inflammation, glomerulotubular injury, and renal fibrosis, indicating that it is a potential natural product in counteracting chronic nephrotoxicity. Paclitaxel (PTX) is one of the most commercially and clinically effective chemotherapeutics, but its toxicity causes significant problems with its administration. Consequently, it was intended in the current research to explore the potential activity of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and propolis against PTX-induced cardiopulmonary damage. Thirty male albino rats were divided equally into six groups: control group; given saline, CoQ10 group; given CoQ10 (100 mg/kg b.wt daily), propolis group; given propolis (200 mg/kg b.wt daily), PTX group; given PTX (7.5 mg/kg b.wt i.p.), CoQ10+PTX group; given CoQ10 (100 mg/kg b.wt daily) before PTX (7.5 mg/kg b.wt) and propolis+PTX group; given propolis (200 mg/kg b.wt) before PTX (7.5 mg/kg b.wt). All treatments were received for 4 weeks. The PTX group had significantly higher serum concentrations of CK-MB and LDH. This result was concomitant with histopathological changes that represented by cardiac necrosis and degeneration together with congestion, edema and hemorrhage in the heart. Lung injury induced by PTX was characterized by perivascular hemorrhage, inflammatory cell infiltrates, bronchiolestenosis, hyperplasia and/or desquamation of the bronchiolar epithelium, alveolar emphysema, congestion, interstitial edema and fibrinoid necrosis of blood vessels walls. Besides, pulmonary fibrosis was confirmed by Van Gieson stain. Immunohistochemical staining for IL-1ß revealed positive immunoexpression in heart and lung tissue. Treatment with CoQ10 and propolis ameliorated the cardiopulmonary toxicity induced by PTX indicated by improved microscopic picture of heart and lungs, serum biochemical parameters and decrease IL-1β immunoreactivity in heart and lung tissues. Cadmium (Cd) is a well-known industrial and environmental pollutant having hazardous and poisonous properties in various forms of kidney impairment. Consequently, this study aimed to evaluate the nephroprotective effect of palm dates extract (PDE) and olive leaves extract (OLE) against cadmium chloride (CdCl2)-induced nephrotoxicity. A total of 36 adult male albino rats were divided into six equal groups. Group 1: control group injected with physiological saline, group 2: oral gavage with PDE, group 3: orally administrated with OLE, group 4: injected daily with CdCl2 (3 mg/kg, i.p.). Groups 5 and 6: were orally treated with either PDE or OLE, respectively one hour prior to ip administration of CdCl2. After one-week samples were collected from all groups for serum biochemical analysis of kidney function as well as investigation of malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Kidney tissue specimens were obtained for histopathological examination. CdCl2 exposure caused a significant elevation (P<0.05) in serum creatinine, urea, uric acid and MDA levels with marked reduction in CAT, SOD and GPx indicating renal damage. CdCl2 induced severe congestion and vasculitis with marked perivascular edema, inflammation, hemorrhage, glomerular shrinkage, massive degeneration, necrosis and apoptosis in the renal tubular epithelium. PDE and OLE treatment resulted in significant improvement in kidney function and oxidative markers with a marked reduction of MDA level. Histopathological changes were also ameliorated. In conclusion, PDE or OLE treatment significantly reduced the deleterious effects of acute CdCl2 renal damage by reducing oxidative stress as a protective mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular. In 2019, 2.2 million electric cars were sold around the world, and that number increased in 2021 to 6.6 million. Microgrids prove to be a viable resolution to the challenge of integrating large-scale electric vehicles and renewable energy sources into the electric power system, given the exponential expansion of both industries and the demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Additionally, the principal policy objective of the government is to enhance the accessibility of public recharge stations designed to accommodate EVs. The study applies cutting-edge technologies to the development of fast-charging (FC) stations. Because DC charging offers unlimited power and quick power transfer, vehicle-to-grid technology can be implemented in a microgrid using DC power transmission. However, incorporating EVs into a microgrid system presents some operational difficulties. In this study, these difficulties are related to power quality (PQ) problems like harmonics in power systems, which have an impact on consumers as well as utilities. The efficacy of the control system was assessed through the simulation of design models employing MATLAB-based vector control and constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) techniques. Through the reduction of the system's total harmonic distortion (THD), both strategies contribute to the enhancement of the PQ and performance of the control system as assessed by these simulations. Based on the findings, the controller demonstrated a decrease in THD and an enhancement in waveform quality, resulting in high accuracy and good performance. We investigate the dynamics of non-classical correlations and quantum coherence in open quantum systems by employing metrics like local quantum Fisher information, local quantum uncertainty, and quantum Jensen-Shannon divergence. Our focus here is on a system of two qubits in two distinct physical situations: the first one when the two qubits are coupled to a cavity field whether the system is closed or open, while the second consists of two qubits immersed in dephasing reservoirs. Our study places significant emphasis on how the evolution of these quantum criterion is influenced by the initial state's purity (whether pure or mixed) and the nature of the environment (whether Markovian or non-Markovian). We observe that a decrease in the initial state's purity corresponds to a reduction in both quantum correlations and quantum coherence, whereas higher purity enhances these quantumness. Furthermore, we establish a quantum teleportation strategy based on the two different physical scenarios. In this approach, the resulting state of the two qubits functions as a quantum channel integrated into a quantum teleportation protocol. Decubitus ulcer is described as localized injury of the skin as well as underlying soft tissue particularly on the bony parts. It is an important issue for professional care that affects pediatric critical care units frequently. Implementation of quality of nursing care intervention for health care professional is considered one of the key elements in preventing decubitus ulcers. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of implementing quality of nursing care intervention on nurses' performance regarding prevention of decubitus ulcer at pediatric intensive care unit. Research design: A quasi experimental research design was used. The subjects: A convenience sampling of twenty-six nurses from Tanta Main University Hospital and twenty-four nurses from International Educational Hospital at Tanta University. Three Tools were used: Structured interviewing schedule, Decubitus ulcer risk assessment using the Braden Q Risk Assessment Scale and Decubitus ulcer prevention observational checklist. Results: there was a statistical significant difference regarding nurses' practice between before and after quality of nursing care intervention implementation. Conclusion: performance of the nurses has significantly improved after the implementation of quality of nursing care intervention in relation to prevention of decubitus ulcer at pediatric intensive care unit. Recommendations: Pediatric nurses should be stay current about knowledge and practice regarding measures of prevention of decubitus ulcer through workshops and training which provide the nurses with a power to utilize preventive measures of decubitus ulcer in workplaces. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic, metabolic illness characterized by an elevation of blood sugar levels. Patients with diabetes show changes in hematological indices. The study aimed to determine hematological indices, ESR, CRP, blood pressure (BP), and weight and their relationship with a fasting blood sugar (FBS) level and different variables in diabetic mellitus patients (DM) compared with healthy control (HC). A total of 202 participants (102 DM group and 100 HC group) were selected randomly. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Blood samples were collected from different places and investigated in Zain Medical Laboratories in Ibb City, Yemen (September 2022 to May 2023). GraphPad Prim was used to analyze the results. P-value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The mean and standard deviation of age, weight, gender, residence, marital status, education levels, economic status, regular exercise, following a strict diet, and family history of diabetes revealed significant differences between DM and HC groups (P < 0.0001, P = 0001, P = 0.0027, P = 0.0002, P < 0.0001, P < 0.0001, P = 0.0002, P = 0.0011, P < 0.0001 and P = 0.0001, respectively). FBS results, systolic and diastolic BP, MCV, WBCs, monocytes, eosinophils, and platelets displayed significant differences between both groups (P < 0.0001, P < 0.0001 and P = 0.0404, P = 0.0191, P < 0.0001, P = 0.0253, P < 0.0001, and P = 0.0229, respectively). ESR exhibited statistical significance (P < 0.0001), while CRP displayed no significance. A Pearson's correlation showed that weight, Hb, RBCs, PCV, and WBCs were statistically negatively correlated with FBS whereas other hematological indices showed no correlation with FBS. Tumors have been rarely documented in the Arabian dromedary (Camelus dromedarius). Importantly, the current study investigated multiple primary tumors in the liver of dromedary camels, slaughtered at different abattoirs in Egypt during the period from January 2019 to February 2022. The study focused on the existence of two or more separate primary neoplasms, or one involving multiple sites in the same liver. The study conducted a comprehensive and accurate gross and histopathological description of the neoplastic cases. The use of special stains and diverse types of immunohistochemical-specific antibodies contributed significantly to the confirmed diagnosis of neoplastic cells. Interestingly, our results diagnosed unusual multiple primary hepatic tumors (prevalence 7/988, 0.7%), including one case each of cholangiocarcinoma-leiomyosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma-cholangiocarcinoma-leiomyoma, myelolipoma-osseous metaplasia, lymphosarcoma and three cases of leiomyomas. Detecting multiple primary hepatic tumors for the first time in the veterinary research area is a major challenge in the diagnosis and treatment strategies of tumors. Additionally, liver cirrhosis, amyloidosis, parasitic infection, and mycotic granuloma may be predisposing factors associated with increased overgrowth of primary mesenchymal hepatic tumors in camels. Objectives: To assess long‐term voiding and renal function (RF) changes after radical cystectomy (RC) and orthotopic neobladder (ONB) surgery in women without disease recurrence. Material and methods: Women who underwent RC and ONB reconstruction between 1995 and 2011 were included in this study. Patients who developed disease failure or were lost to follow‐up were excluded. The study outcomes were long‐term voiding function and the incidence and predictors of RF deterioration (defined as >20% decline of baseline). Analysis was performed using the log‐rank test and Cox regression analysis. Results: The study included 195 patients with a median (interquartile range) follow‐up of 98 (53–151) months, of whom 95 had >10 years of follow‐up. Daytime continence, night‐time continence and chronic urine retention (CUR) were identified in 170 (87%), 134 (69%) and 52 patients (27%), respectively. Among patients with >10 years of follow‐up, 82 (86%), 66 (70%) and 31 (33%) had daytime continence, night‐time continence and CUR at the last follow‐up visit, respectively. RF deterioration events occurred in 74 patients throughout the follow‐up and chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage III–V developed in 80 patients. Patients' age (hazard ratio [HR] 1.41, 95% confidence interval [CI]1.06–1.89; P = 0.02) and serous‐lined extramural tunnel diversion (HR 0.43, 95% CI 0.19–0.86; P = 0.02) were the independent predictors of RF deterioration. Among patients with >10 years of follow‐up, RF deteriorated in 46 patients (49%) and CKD stage III–V developed in 40 (42%). Conclusion: Women surviving more than 10 years after RC and ONB maintained acceptable continence status, apart from having a higher CUR rate, compared to those followed for <10 years. In this paper, a new family of lifetime distributions called new two-parameter distribution-G family is introduced. This family includes some new distributions such as new two-parameter distribution -generalized linear exponential family. Some statistical properties of the proposed distribution are obtained, such as the hazard rate function, moments, moment generating function and order statistics. We discuss the estimation of the distribution parameters by method of maximum likelihood in both of complete and right censored cases. A modified criteria test is developed to fit this new model when the parameters are unknown and data are right censored. The performances of the methods used are demonstrated by an intensive simulation study whether the usefulness and the versatility in practical applications of this distribution is illustrated by means of real data sets. This study explores the thermal quantum‐memory‐assisted entropic uncertainty relation (QM‐EUR) and entanglement in a general two‐qubit XYZ‐Heisenberg spin chain model in the presence of the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya (DM) interaction. The characterization of y‐component DM and spin–spin interactions are particularly focused. It is found that the DM and spin–spin interaction strengths highly regulate the flow behavior and the initial final levels of QM‐EUR and entanglement. In comparison, the spin–spin interaction strength in the z‐direction remains useful in both ferromagnetic and anti‐ferromagnetic regimes for entropic uncertainty suppression and entanglement generation. Additionally, the negative and the positive y-$y\text{-}$directed DM values can usefully turn classical states into resourceful quantum states. The dynamics of thermal QM‐EUR and entanglement‐of‐formation have symmetric behaviors only with respect to y‐component DM and z‐component spin–spin interaction. Finally, different critical points of temperature, y-$y\text{-}$component DM as well as spin–spin interaction are encountered, which should be opted to preserve quantum correlations and degrade uncertainty. Covid-19 is an infectious disease that has affected the whole world. It has impacted almost the entire system and changed society's routine in the aspects of politics, economics, social, education, and many more. The changes that have occurred due to the transmission of this virus have a direct negative impact, especially on the community's mental health. This crisis has forced governments around the world to shut down their countries. Therefore, the community is forced to work from home and carry out online buying and selling activities. Schools are also unable to run face-to-face due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus. This study aims to examine the philosophy behind the spread of the Covid-19 virus. In addition, this study wants to analyse the impacts of Covid-19 on community mental health in Malaysia according to a philosophical point of view and to study the relationship between mental health and its solutions. This qualitative study uses the library research method and analyses data based on references obtained through articles, books, and other written materials to find more clear and detailed information. The implications of this study may increase public awareness of the impacts of Covid-19 on mental health. This investigation aimed to detect the pesticide residues in cotton seeds and effects of these pesticide residues on fatty acids of the organic cotton seeds Giza 86 variety and treated cotton seeds Giza 86 variety harvested from the experimental plots and cultivated during the seasons 2017 and 2018. Gas chromatography (GC) with flame photometry (FPD) was used in determining residual pesticides and changes in fatty acids. Fatty acids were determined using GC/Mass spectrometry. Results indicated the existence of detectable residues of the insecticide Chlorpyriphos in treated cottonseeds Giza 86 variety (conventional samples) in both seasons 2017 and 2018 at the range of 1.11 ppm, and 1.14 ppm for Chlorpyriphos, and 6.51 ppm, and 5.30 ppm for Profenophos. The resulting values were hazardous and toxic according to Maximum residue levels (MRLs). The results revealed an increasing value of Myristic acid in the organic Giza 86 at 2.74% than the treated variety at 1.13% and evanescence of the Pentadecanoic acid (C15:0) in the inorganic variety. Palmitoleic acid (C16:1 w9), Hexadecatrienoic acid (C16:3w4), linoleic acid (C18:3 w3), Arachidic acid (C18:3 w3), and Docosenoic acid (C22:1 w 11) appeared in the treated variety Giza 86 with disappearance in the organic variety. Decreasing the value of Stearic acid (C18:0) from 6.34% in the organic Giza 86 to 3.91% in the treated variety. Vaccinic acid (C18:1 w7) was decreased from 1.68% (organic Giza 86) to 0.93% (treated Giza 86), and oleic acid (C18:1w9) from 31.14% (organic Giza 86) to 24.26% (treated Giza 86). Contrariwise, the fatty acid Linoleic acid C18:2w6 increased from 31.45% in the organic Giza 86 to 42.20% in the treated Giza 86 and also slightly increased the value of Palmitic acid (C16:0) at 24.39% in the treated variety Giza 86 than 24.14% in the organic variety. Background: chronic gastritis is one of the most prevalent pathological entities in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy conflicting patients' morbidity. This cohort study aims to study the role of upper gastro-intestinal tract (Upper GIT) endoscopy and histopathology in diagnosis, follow up and analyze the correlation between the endoscopic and histopathologic findings of chronic gastritis. Methods: In this cohort study, 85 patients of chronic gastritis were studied and followed up endoscopically and histopathologically within 3 to 6 months after treatment between January 2017 and January 2020. Six biopsies were taken from different areas of the stomach and comparing the endoscopic (modified Lanza score) with histopathologic findings according to Sydney System. Results: The longest duration of symptoms of chronic gastritis was (1 up to < 2 years), the most common cause was NSAIDS (65.9%) and H. Pylori induced gastritis by (50.6%). There was significant weak direct correlation between degree of gastritis (endoscope) and degree of gastritis (histopathology) before treatment (p-Value is 0.026) and after treatment (p-Value is 0.007) Also, there was highly significant (HS) improvement after treatment in degree and extent of chronic gastritis endoscopically and histopathologically as p-value <0.001 (HS). Conclusions: Chronic gastritis is a common disease that affects different age groups. NSAIDS induced chronic gastritis is the most common cause of chronic gastritis. H Pylori is the second most common cause of chronic gastritis so preventive measures and treatment regimens should be applied to eradicate H. Pylori. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common cardiac arrhythmia that is associated with an increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). The main goal was to analyze the links and associations between AF and MACE. Methods: A multicenter, observational, retrospective, community-based study of a cohort (n = 40,297) of the general population aged 65–95 years between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2021 without a previous diagnosis of AF or MACE in the Primary Care setting. Results: 2574 people (6.39%) developed a first AF event, resulting in an overall incidence of 8.9/1000 people-years [CI95% 8.6–9.2]. The incidence of MACE among those with AF was 75.1/1000 people-years [CI95% 70.8–79.5], whereas among those without AF, it was 20.6/1000 people-years [CI 95% 20.2–21.1], resulting in a rate ratio of 3.65 [CI 95% 3.43–3.88, p < 0.001]. Besides, the incidence of HF with AF was 40.1 people-years [CI 95% 37.1–43.2], while in the group without AF, it was 8.3 people-years [CI 95% 7.9–8.6, p < 0.001], with a rate ratio of 4.85 [CI 95% 4.45–55.3, p < 0.001]. Before an AF diagnosis, there is already a higher risk of chronic kidney disease, ischemic cardiopathy, and peripheral artery disease. A higher risk of poor nutritional status was detected among those with MACE (49.7% vs. 26.6%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: AF diagnosis increases the incidence of heart failure fourfold. Background: Nutrition has a significant impact on the health of post-menopausal women. An appropriate dietary plan provides women with the necessary nutrients to maximize their activity and help minimize chronic diseases that may arise after menopause. The objective of the study was to assess the nutritional knowledge and dietary diversity of post-menopausal women in the rural area of Bangladesh. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among post-menopausal women aged 45 to 60. A sampling frame of 167 post-menopausal women was created by visiting each household, and 101 participants were chosen randomly from this frame. Face-to-face interviews were used to gather data. The body mass index (BMI) was used to evaluate nutritional status. To gather dietary data and calculate dietary diversity scores, a 24-hour dietary recall questionnaire was used. Knowledge score was used to gauge nutrition-related knowledge. Result: The average nutrition knowledge score was 8.55 out of 13. Knowledge has a statistically significant effect on the dietary diversity of post-menopausal women (P< 0.015). In this study, BMI was 41 percent, within the normal range, 35 percent were overweight, and 22 percent were obese. Around 45 percent of the respondents had a low dietary diversity score. There was a weak association between BMI and dietary diversity (P> 0.077). Almost 90 percent of women experienced menopausal problems, and 25 percent had inadequate knowledge about menopause. Conclusion: Knowledge of nutrition is associated with post-menopausal women's dietary diversity. Nutrition knowledge can improve the dietary diversity of post-menopausal women. A wide range of soilless cultivation techniques have been developed and introduced for intensive cropping systems and for boosting the crop yield of many vegetables, mainly in greenhouses. Adoption of some local natural byproducts to be utilized as a substrate growing medium to overcome soil-related problems appeared to be a promising project. Therefore, greenhouse experiments were conducted at the Baloza Experimental Station of the Desert Research Center (DRC), North Sinai Governorate, Egypt, during the two consecutive winter growing seasons of 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. These experiments aimed to investigate the effects of seven growing substrate culture treatments of separated or mixed sand obtained from sand dunes and date palm tree residues (Karenna) on plant vegetative growth, flowering, fruit yield and quality traits, and fruit nutritional values of cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L.) Filial-1 hybrid 1101. Crop evapotranspiration reference (ETc) and water use efficiency (WUE), as well as treatment feasibility, were also studied. The experiment was set up in a complete randomized block design with three replicates. The obtained results strongly indicated that growing substrate media containing 25% sand (S) from sand dunes mixed with 75% grinded Karenna (Kg) of date palm (1 S + 3 Kg) significantly recorded the superiority of all studied characters of plant vegetative growth, number of flowers, fruit set, yield and its components, as well as fruit N, P and K contents, compared with other growing substrate medium treatments. On the contrary, the worst values of all studied parameters were achieved when sand was used alone (100% S) as a growing media. Furthermore, the highest water use efficiency and net income values were also attained by the 1 S + 3 Kg media treatment relative to the other growing substrate medium treatments. This work aims to study the influence of Al2O3 in CrFeCuMnNi high-entropy alloy matrix composites (HEMCs) on their microstructure, phase changes, and mechanical and wear performances. CrFeCuMnNi-Al2O3 HEMCs were synthesized via mechanical alloying (MA) followed by hot compaction (550 °C at 550 MPa), medium frequency sintering (1200 °C), and hot forging (1000 °C at 50 MPa). The XRD results demonstrate the formation of both FCC and BCC phases in the synthesized powders, which were transformed into major stable FCC and minor ordered B2-BCC phases, as confirmed by HRSEM. The microstructural variation of HRSEM-EBSD, in terms of the coloured grain map (inverse pole figures), grain size distribution, and misorientation angle, was analysed and reported. The grain size of the matrix decreased with the increase in Al2O3 particles owing to the higher structural refinement by MA and zener pinning of the incorporated Al2O3 particles. The hot-forged CrFeCuMnNi-3 vol.% Al2O3 sample exhibited an ultimate compressive strength of 1.058 GPa, which was 21% higher than that of the unreinforced HEA matrix. Both the mechanical and wear performance of the bulk samples increased with an increase in Al2O3 content due to solid solution formation, high configurational mixing entropy, structural refinement, and the effective dispersion of the incorporated Al2O3 particles. The wear rate and coefficient of friction values decreased with the increase in Al2O3 content, indicating an improvement in wear resistance owing to the lower domination of abrasive and adhesive mechanisms, as evidenced by the SEM worn surface morphology. Continuous discovery of novel in vitro plant culture practices is always essential to promote better plant growth in the shortest possible cultivation period. An alternative approach to conventional micropropagation practice could be achieved through biotization by inoculating selected Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) into the plant tissue culture materials (e.g., callus, embryogenic callus, and plantlets). Such biotization process often allows the selected PGPR to form a sustaining population with various stages of in vitro plant tissues. During the biotization process, plant tissue culture material imposes developmental and metabolic changes and enhances its tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, thereby reducing mortality in the acclimatization and pre-nursery stages. Understanding the mechanisms is, therefore crucial for gaining insights into in vitro plant-microbe interactions. Studies of biochemical activities and compound identifications are always essential to evaluate in vitro plant-microbe interactions. Given the importance of biotization in promoting in vitro plant material growth, this review aims to provide a brief overview of the in vitro oil palm plant-microbe symbiosis system. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a wide-ranging spectrum of clinical symptoms, from asymptomatic/mild to severe. Recent research indicates that, among several factors, a low vitamin D level is a modifiable risk factor for COVID-19 patients. This study aims to evaluate the effect of vitamin D on hospital and laboratory outcomes of patients with COVID-19. Five databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library) and clinicaltrials.gov were searched until July 2022, using relevant keywords/Mesh terms. Only randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that addressed the topic were included. The Cochrane tool was used to assess the studies' risk of bias, and the data were analyzed using the review manager (RevMan 5.4). We included nine RCTs with 1586 confirmed COVID-19 patients. Vitamin D group showed a significant reduction of intensive care unit (ICU) admission (risk ratio = 0.59, 95% confidence interval (CI) [0.41, 0.84], P = 0.003), and higher change in vitamin D level (standardized mean difference = 2.27, 95% CI [2.08, 2.47], P < 0.00001) compared to the control group. Other studied hospital and laboratory outcomes showed non-significant difference between vitamin D and the control group (P ≥ 0.05). In conclusion, vitamin D reduced the risk of ICU admission and showed superiority in changing vitamin D level compared to the control group. However, other outcomes showed no difference between the two groups. More RCTs are needed to confirm these results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
