Underlying complications constitute a significant factor contributing to the damage of blood vessel tissue. Tissue engineering is, therefore, essential for comprehending the various solutions to regenerate impaired tissue. Clinical applications have shown promising results in animal and human trials, but challenges remain in scaling production to achieve long-term success. Methods to gradually regenerate blood vessel tissue consist of synthetic polymer scaffolds, cell sheet assembly, natural protein scaffolds, and decellularized and recellularized matrices. Despite current progress, several limitations and challenges must be addressed, such as biocompatibility, immunogenicity, vascularization, cell source, and cell differentiation: continued research and innovative approaches toward tissue engineering hold great potential for transforming and improving patient outcomes. Background: The literature on the running kinematics of youth distance runners is limited. Purpose: We sought to describe 2-dimensional (2D) video analysis of running kinematics in healthy adolescent distance runners, which has not been previously described. Methods: We conducted an observational study of healthy, competitive runners between the ages of 14 and 18 years, prospectively recruited through local running clubs and our hospital's outreach between August 2019 and July 2023. Participants ran on a treadmill at a self-selected speed with markers attached to the thorax, pelvis, and lower extremities. A high-definition video camera recorded the runners in the sagittal and frontal planes. Kinematic measurements were completed using Dartfish software and reported as means and standard deviations. Results: Of the 53 participants (51% boys, mean age: 16.0 ± 1.4 years) included in the 2D running analysis, 91% ran with a rearfoot strike pattern, with a mean foot inclination angle of 10.2° ± 6.2°. Knee flexion angle at initial contact was 13.2° ± 3.8°, tibia inclination angle was 8.5° ± 3.2°, and peak knee flexion was 44.5° ± 3.6°. Cadence was 168.7° ± 8.6°. Contralateral pelvic drop was 6.0° ± 2.2° and peak rearfoot eversion was 11.8° ± 3.6°. Conclusions: This study is the first to describe running kinematics as captured by 2D video in healthy adolescent runners and to identify kinematic variables that may differ from those of adult runners. Boron (B) deficiency has been shown to inhibit root cell growth and division. However, the precise mechanism underlying B deficiency-mediated root tip growth inhibition remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of BnaA3.NIP5;1, a gene encoding a boric acid channel, in Brassica napus (B. napus). BnaA3.NIP5;1 is expressed in the lateral root cap and contributes to B acquisition in the root tip. Downregulation of BnaA3.NIP5;1 enhances B sensitivity in B. napus, resulting in reduced shoot biomass and impaired root tip development. Transcriptome analysis was conducted on root tips from wild-type B. napus (QY10) and BnaA3.NIP5;1 RNAi lines to assess the significance of B dynamics in meristematic cells during seedling growth. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were significantly enriched in plant circadian rhythm and nitrogen (N) metabolism pathways. Notably, the circadian-rhythm-related gene HY5 exhibited a similar B regulation pattern in Arabidopsis to that observed in B. napus. Furthermore, Arabidopsis mutants with disrupted circadian rhythm (hy5/cor27/toc1) displayed heightened sensitivity to low B compared to the wild type (Col-0). Consistent with expectations, B deficiency significantly disrupted N metabolism in B. napus roots, affecting nitrogen concentration, nitrate reductase enzyme activity, and glutamine synthesis. Interestingly, this disruption was exacerbated in BnaA3NIP5;1 RNAi lines. Overall, our findings highlight the critical role of B dynamics in root tip cells, impacting circadian rhythm and N metabolism, ultimately leading to retarded growth. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a progressive liver disease characterized by the build-up of fat in the liver of individuals in the absence of alcohol consumption. This condition has become a burden in modern societies aggravated by the lack of appropriate predictive biomarkers (other than liver biopsy). To better understand this disease and to find appropriate biomarkers, a new technology has emerged in the last two decades with the ability to explore the unmapped role of lipids in this disease: lipidomics. This technology, based on the combination of chromatography and mass spectrometry, has been extensively used to explore the lipid metabolism of NAFLD. In this review, we aim to summarize the knowledge gained through lipidomics assays exploring tissues, plasma, and lipoproteins from individuals with NAFLD. Our goal is to identify common features and active pathways that could facilitate the finding of a reliable biomarker from this field. The most frequent observation was a variable decrease (1–9%) in polyunsaturated fatty acids in phospholipids and non-esterified fatty acids in NAFLD patients, both in plasma and liver. Additionally, a reduction in phosphatidylcholines is a common feature in the liver. Due to the scarcity of studies, further research is needed to properly detect lipoprotein, plasma, and tissue lipid signatures of NAFLD etiologies, and NAFLD subtypes, and to define the relevance of this technology in disease management strategies in the push toward personalized medicine. When a mass occurs at the staple line following lung resection, it can be difficult to distinguish between local cancer recurrence and granuloma. We present a case of a staple‐line granuloma with 18F‐fluorodeoxyglucose‐positron emission tomography uptake and elevated serum carbohydrate antigen 19–9 (CA19‐9) in a patient with ovarian cancer lung metastasis. After granuloma resection, serum CA19‐9 levels normalized, and CA19‐9 positive cells were identified in the resected tumor. Therefore, serum CA19‐9 elevation does not rule out a staple‐line granuloma. Whereas granulomas on computed tomography (CT) scans tend to show smooth shadows along the staple line unilaterally, detailed CT evaluation may help diagnostic differentiation. Differentiation based on imaging and tumor markers has limitations. However, core needle biopsy has the risk of misdiagnosis and tumor cell dissemination, therefore surgical resection should be considered when comprehensive findings indicate a potential recurrence. Microglia play a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis of the central nervous system and they are actively involved in shaping the brain's inflammatory response to stress. Among the multitude of involved molecules, purinergic receptors and enzymes are of special importance due to their ability to regulate microglia activation. By investigating the mechanisms underlying microglial responses and dysregulation, researchers can develop more precise interventions to modulate microglial behavior and alleviate neuroinflammatory processes. Studying gene function selectively in microglia, however, remains technically challenging. This review article provides an overview of adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based microglia targeting approaches, discussing potential prospects for refining these approaches to improve both specificity and effectiveness and encouraging future investigations aimed at connecting the potential of AAV-mediated microglial targeting for therapeutic benefit in neurological disorders. SOX proteins are a family of transcription factors (TFs) that play critical functions in sex determination, neurogenesis, and chondrocyte differentiation, as well as cardiac, vascular, and lymphatic development. There are 20 SOX family members in humans, each sharing a 79-residue L-shaped high mobility group (HMG)-box domain that is responsible for DNA binding. SOX2 was recently shown to interact with long non-coding RNA and large-intergenic non-coding RNA to regulate embryonic stem cell and neuronal differentiation. The RNA binding region was shown to reside within the HMG-box domain; however, the structural details of this binding remain unclear. Here, we show that all SOX family members, except group H, interact with RNA. Our mutational experiments demonstrate that the disordered C-terminal region of the HMG-box domain plays an important role in RNA binding. Further, by determining a high-resolution structure of the HMG-box domain of the group H family member SOX30, we show that despite differences in RNA binding ability, SOX30 shares a very similar secondary structure with other SOX protein HMG-box domains. With the continuous development of synchrotron radiation light sources, higher requirements have been put forward for the stability of double-crystal monochromators in synchrotron radiation facilities. This paper designs an active adjustment mechanism for a double-crystal monochromator to improve its stability. Firstly, three spatial degrees of freedom are designed based on the active adjustment mechanism of flexible leaf spring parallel coupling, and the prototype of the mechanism is fabricated. Secondly, system identification experiments are carried out and the system transfer function curve is fitted by the nonlinear least squares method. Thirdly, the controller based on non-singular terminal sliding modes and a finite-time disturbance observer was designed for stability control and disturbance compensation. Finally, the effectiveness of the controller is verified by a model-in-the-loop approach based on the performance of the real-time target machine. The results show that the non-singular terminal sliding mode + finite-time disturbance observer control strategy can reduce the RMS value of the vibration displacement of Axis-1/Axis-2/Axis-3 by 81.25%, 78.53%, and 71.82%. Simple Summary: Hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITHOC) is an intraoperative and topical administration of chemotherapeutic drugs with simultaneous warming of the thoracic cavity. This procedure was first described by Spratt in 1980 as a thermal transfusion infiltration system, performed on canine models to treat malignant effusions of metastatic abdominal cancers. The main tumors causing malignant pleural effusion, which have been seen to benefit from hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy, are mesothelioma, thymic malignancies and lung cancer: despite the high prevalence of MPE in patients with metastatic breast and ovarian cancers, there are still inadequate data on the use of HITHOC as a treatment option for these malignancies. Pleural mesothelioma (PM) is a rare but aggressive thoracic tumor with a poor prognosis. Multimodal treatment—including induction chemotherapy, aggressive surgical resection, radiotherapy and immunotherapy in selected cases—currently represents the best therapeutic option. Single-center studies advocate hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITHOC) during surgical resection as an additional therapeutic option, although its impact on post-operative morbidity and survival has not yet been evaluated on a larger scale. HITHOC can be applied not only in the case of mesothelioma, but also in the case of thymoma with pleural involvement or—in very selected cases—in patients with secondary pleural metastases. Despite favorable outcomes and reduced clinical risks, there is no uniform approach to HITHOC, and a wide variety of indications and technical applications are still reported. Based on available data, HITHOC seems to offer a clear benefit in regard to overall survival of all mesothelioma patients; however, multicenter randomized controlled trials are required to validate and standardize this approach. Tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.) is a woody plant with high ornamental, medicinal, and oil values. However, its low rooting rate and poor rooting quality are bottleneck issues in the micropropagation of P. ostii. The WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) family plays a crucial role in root development. In this study, based on the screening of the genome and root transcriptome database, we identified ten WOX members in P. ostii. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the ten PoWOX proteins clustered into three major clades, the WUS, intermediate, and ancient clade, respectively. The conserved motifs and tertiary structures of PoWOX proteins located in the same clade exhibited higher similarity. The analysis of cis-regulatory elements in the promoter indicated that PoWOX genes are involved in plant growth and development, phytohormones, and stress responses. The expression analysis revealed that PoWOX genes are expressed in distinct tissues. PoWOX4, PoWOX5, PoWOX11, and PoWOX13b are preferentially expressed in roots at the early stage of root primordium formation, suggesting their role in the initiation and development of roots. These results will provide a comprehensive reference for the evolution and potential function of the WOX family and offer guidance for further study on the root development of tree peony. Despite their low abundance and small molecular weight, SPs intricately regulate critical aspects of plant life, including cell division, growth, differentiation, flowering, fruiting, maturation, and stress responses. As vital mediators of intercellular signaling, SPs have garnered significant attention in plant biology research. This comprehensive review delves into SPs' structure, classification, and identification, providing a detailed understanding of their significance. Additionally, we summarize recent findings on the biological functions and signaling pathways of prominent SPs that regulate plant growth and development. Endometriosis is a hormone-dependent, chronic inflammatory condition that affects 5–10% of reproductive-aged women. It is a complex disorder characterized by the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, which can cause chronic pelvic pain and infertility. Despite its prevalence, the underlying molecular mechanisms of this disease remain poorly understood. Current treatment options are limited and focus mainly on suppressing lesion activity rather than eliminating it entirely. Although endometriosis is generally considered a benign condition, substantial evidence suggests that it increases the risk of developing specific subtypes of ovarian cancer. The discovery of cancer driver mutations in endometriotic lesions indicates that endometriosis may share molecular pathways with cancer. Moreover, the application of single-cell and spatial genomics, along with the development of organoid models, has started to illuminate the molecular mechanisms underlying disease etiology. This review aims to summarize the key genetic mutations and alterations that drive the development and progression of endometriosis to malignancy. We also review the significant recent advances in the understanding of the molecular basis of the disorder, as well as novel approaches and in vitro models that offer new avenues for improving our understanding of disease pathology and for developing new targeted therapies. Three-amino-loop-extension (TALE) family belongs to the homeobox gene superfamily and occurs widely in plants, playing a crucial role in regulating their growth and development. Currently, genome-wide analysis of the TALE family has been completed in many plants. However, the systematic identification and hormone response analysis of the TALE gene family in barley are still lacking. In this study, 21 TALE candidate genes were identified in barley, which can be divided into KNOX and BELL subfamilies. Barley TALE members in the same subfamily of the phylogenetic tree have analogically conserved motifs and gene structures, and segmental duplications are largely responsible for the expansion of the HvTALE family. Analysis of TALE orthologous and homologous gene pairs indicated that the HvTALE family has mainly undergone purifying selective pressure. Through spatial structure simulation, HvKNOX5–HvKNOX6 and HvKNOX5–HvBELL11 complexes are all formed through hydrogen bonding sites on both the KNOX2 and homeodomain (HD) domains of HvKNOX5, which may be essential for protein interactions among the HvTALE family members. Expression pattern analyses reveal the potential involvement of most HvTALE genes in responses to exogenous hormones. Huntingtin-associated protein 1 (HAP1) was the first protein discovered to interact with huntingtin. Besides brain, HAP1 is also expressed in the spinal cord, dorsal root ganglion, endocrine, and digestive systems. HAP1 has diverse functions involving in vesicular transport, receptor recycling, gene transcription, and signal transduction. HAP1 is strongly linked to several neurological diseases, including Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, ischemic stroke, and depression. In addition, HAP1 has been proved to participate in cancers and diabetes mellitus. Background: For adults with auditory processing disorder (APD), listening and communicating can be difficult, potentially leading to social isolation, depression, employment difficulties and certainly reducing the quality of life. Despite existing practice guidelines suggesting treatments, the efficacy of these interventions remains uncertain due to a lack of comprehensive reviews. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to establish current evidence on the effectiveness of interventions for APD in adults, addressing the urgent need for clarity in the field. Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a systematic search across MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), Web of Science and Scopus, focusing on intervention studies involving adults with APD. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were grouped according to intervention with a meta-analysis only conducted where intervention, study design and outcome measure were comparable. Results: Out of 1,618 screened records, 13 studies were included, covering auditory training (AT), low-gain hearing aids (LGHA), and personal remote microphone systems (PRMS). Our analysis revealed: AT, Mixed results with some improvements in speech intelligibility and listening ability, indicating potential benefits but highlighting the need for standardized protocols; LGHA, The included studies demonstrated significant improvements in monaural low redundancy speech testing (p < 0.05), suggesting LGHA could enhance speech perception in noisy environments. However, limitations include small sample sizes and potential biases in study design. PRMS, Demonstrated the most consistent evidence of benefit, significantly improving speech testing results, with no additional benefit from combining PRMS with other interventions. Discussion: PRMS presents the most evidence-supported intervention for adults with APD, although further high-quality research is crucial for all intervention types. The establishment and implementation of standardized intervention protocols alongside rigorously validated outcome measures will enable a more evidence-based approach to managing APD in adults. The incorporation of bacterial ribosome has been reported to induce multipotency in somatic and cancer cells which leads to the conversion of cell lineages. Queried on its universality, we observed that bacterial ribosome incorporation into trypsinized mouse adult fibroblast cells (MAF) led to the formation of ribosome-induced cell clusters (RICs) that showed strong positive alkaline phosphatase staining. Under in vitro differentiation conditions, RICs-MAF were differentiated into adipocytes, osteoblasts, and chondrocytes. In addition, RICs-MAF were able to differentiate into neural cells. Furthermore, RICs-MAF expressed early senescence markers without cell death. Strikingly, no noticeable expression of renowned stemness markers like Oct4, Nanog, Sox2, etc. was observed here. Later RNA-sequencing data revealed the expression of rare pluripotency-associated markers, i.e., Dnmt3l, Sox5, Tbx3 and Cdc73 in RICs-MAF and the enrichment of endogenous ribosomal status. These observations suggested that RICs-MAF might have experienced a non-canonical multipotent state during lineage conversion. The Central Nervous System (CNS) is vulnerable to a range of diseases, including neurodegenerative and oncological conditions, which present significant treatment challenges. The blood–brain barrier (BBB) restricts molecule penetration, complicating the achievement of therapeutic concentrations in the CNS following systemic administration. Gene therapy using recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) vectors emerges as a promising strategy for treating CNS diseases, demonstrated by the registration of six gene therapy products in the past six years and 87 ongoing clinical trials. This review explores the implementation of rAAV vectors in CNS disease treatment, emphasizing AAV biology and vector engineering. Various administration methods—such as intravenous, intrathecal, and intraparenchymal routes—and experimental approaches like intranasal and intramuscular administration are evaluated, discussing their advantages and limitations in different CNS contexts. Additionally, the review underscores the importance of optimizing therapeutic efficacy through the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of rAAV vectors. A comprehensive analysis of clinical trials reveals successes and challenges, including barriers to commercialization. This review provides insights into therapeutic strategies using rAAV vectors in neurological diseases and identifies areas requiring further research, particularly in optimizing rAAV PK/PD. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Curative treatments are available to a minority of patients, as HCC is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. For patients with unresectable and multifocal HCC, tyrosine kinase inhibitor drugs (TKIs) are the only potential treatment option. Despite extensive research, predictors of response to these therapies remain elusive. This study aimed to analyze the biological and histopathological characteristics of HCC patients treated with TKIs, focusing on angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. Immunohistochemistry quantified the expression of angiopoietin-2 (Ang2), lymphatic endothelial cells (LEC) podoplanin, and C-type Lectin Domain Family 2 (CLEC-2), key factors in neoangiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. An increased expression of endothelial Ang2 and LEC podoplanin predicted a lower risk of metastasis. Female patients had significantly longer overall survival and survival on TKIs, associated with higher tumor expression of endothelial Ang2 and LEC podoplanin. Moreover, LEC podoplanin expression and a longer time on TKIs were independently correlated with improved survival on TKI therapy at Cox regression analysis. These findings suggest that endothelial Ang2 and LEC podoplanin could be potential biomarkers for predicting treatment outcomes and guiding therapeutic strategies in HCC patients treated with TKIs. Simple Summary: Poly (L-lactide-co-D, L-lactide) and PLDLLA have mechanical properties such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, thermoplastic capacity, and physical properties. In addition, their use eliminates the need for removal in subsequent surgeries and reduces the discomfort and risks associated with additional procedures. Given these advantages, a national company is currently developing an internal fixation device manufactured for PLDLLA, and it is essential to evaluate its bone incorporation process. The PLDLLA fixation device tested in this animal study was biocompatible and facilitated the formation of new bone around the device. Therefore, to avoid a second surgical procedure, this device is a highly effective option for those seeking a reliable and safe solution for bone fixation procedures. This study evaluated the bone incorporation process of a screw-shaped internal fixation device made of poly (L-lactide-co-D, L-lactide) (PLDLLA). Thirty-two male Wistar rats received 32 fixation devices (2 mm × 6 mm) randomly assigned to either the right or left tibia and one implant in each animal. After 7, 14, 28, and 42 days, the rats were euthanized and the specimens were subjected to microtomographic computed tomography (microCT) and histomorphometric analyses to evaluate bone interface contact (BIC%) and new bone formation (NBF%) in cortical and cancellous bone areas. The animals euthanized on days 28 and 42 were treated with calcein and alizarin red, and confocal LASER microscopy was performed to determine the mineral apposition rate (MAR). Micro-CT revealed a higher percentage of bone volume (p < 0.006), trabecular separation (p < 0.001), and BIC in the cortical (p < 0.001) and cancellous (p = 0.003) areas at 28 and 42 days than at 7 and 14 days. The cortical NBF at 42 days was greater than that at 7 and 14 days (p = 0.022). No statistically significant differences were observed in cancellous NBF or MAR at 28 and 42 days. SPPs are the information carrying elements in plasmonics, which are capable of breaking the diffraction limit. Plasmonics technology has shown its application in uncountable nanophotonic applications like switching, filtering, light modulation, sensing and in many more fields. Modulators are the key components of integrated photonic system. Various modulators which work on different effects are discussed in this study for providing a universal idea of modulators to researchers. Some useful plasmonic active materials are also discussed which are used in most of plasmonic modulators and other active devices. Previously, many researchers have worked on many kinds of modulators and switches, which operate on different kind of operating principles. For providing an overview about plasmonic modulators, their classification and their operation, we have discussed the state of art of some previously introduced modulators and switches which operates on electro-refractive effects and include electro-optic effect, Pockels effect, free charge carrier dispersion effect, phase change effect, elasto-optic effect, magneto-optic effect, and thermo-optic effect. Instead of different effects used in plasmonic switches and modulators different active materials like liquid crystals, graphene, vanadium di-oxide, chalcogenides, polymers, indium tin oxide, bismuth ferrite, barium titanate, and lithium niobate are also explained with their properties. Previous studies have shown that oyster peptides (OPs) have antioxidant and anti-fatigue activities. This study aimed to investigate the effects of OPs on swimming endurance in mice and the underlying mechanisms. The mice were subjected to gavage with OPs and subjected to exercise training. After 14 days, various biochemical indicators in the blood and gastrocnemius muscle of mice were assessed, and real-time PCR was utilized to detect the level of signal pathway regulation by OPs in the gastrocnemius muscle. Molecular docking technology was employed to observe the potential active components in OPs that regulate signal pathways. In this study, OPs supplementation combined with and without exercise significantly extended swimming time compared to the sedentary group. OPs supplementation with exercise also increased glycogen levels and decreased blood urea nitrogen, lactate dehydrogenase, and lactic acid levels. Additionally, mice in the exercise with OPs group exhibited higher activities of antioxidant enzymes. OPs can upregulate metabolic regulatory factors such as AMP-activated protein kinase, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1 alpha, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta, and glucose transporter 4, thereby increasing energy supply during exercise. Additionally, OPs enhances the expression of heme oxygenase 1 and superoxide dismutase 2, thereby reducing oxidative stress during physical activity. Molecular docking analyses revealed that peptides found in OPs formed hydrogen bonds with AMPK and HO-1, indicating that they can exert bioactivity by activating target proteins such as AMPK and HO-1. OPs supplementation improved energy reserves, modulated energy metabolism pathways, and coordinated antioxidative stress responses, ultimately enhancing swimming endurance. Purpose of Review: Anterior cruciate ligament (ALC) tears are increasingly common in skeletally immature patients, as more children and adolescents participate in intensive sports training and specialization at increasingly younger ages. These injuries were historically treated nonoperatively, given concerns for physeal damage and subsequent growth disturbances after traditional ACL reconstruction techniques. However, there is now sufficient data to suggest superior outcomes with operative treatment, specifically with physeal-sparing and physeal-respecting techniques. This article reviews considerations of skeletal maturity in patients with ACL tears, then discusses surgical techniques, with a focus on their unique indications and outcomes. Additional surgical adjuncts and components of postoperative rehabilitation, which may reduce retear rates, are also considered. Recent Findings: Current research shows favorable patient-reported outcomes and high return-to-sport rates after ACL reconstruction in skeletally immature patients. Graft rupture (ACL retear) rates are low, but notably higher than in most adult populations. Historically, there has been insufficient research to comprehensively compare reconstruction techniques used in this patient population. However, thoughtful systematic reviews and multicenter prospective studies are emerging to address this deficit. Also, more recent data suggests the addition of lateral extra-articular procedures and stringent return-to-sports testing may lower retear rates. Summary: Physeal-sparing and physeal-respecting ACL reconstructions result in stabilization of the knee, while respecting the growth remaining in children or skeletally immature adolescents. Background: Arthrofibrosis is a fibrotic joint disorder resulting in restricted joint motion and pain. Risk factors associated with the development of postoperative arthrofibrosis include female sex, type of graft, and quicker time to reconstruction. These patients have typically benefitted from manipulation under anesthesia or arthroscopic lysis of adhesions. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively review the rate of arthrofibrosis in children and adolescents who previously underwent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective chart review examining patients 18 years or younger who underwent ACL reconstruction between 2013 and 2023. Data collected included age, body mass index, reconstruction technique, concomitant meniscal or ligamentous pathology, and need for revision surgery for arthroscopic lysis of adhesions vs manipulation under anesthesia. Results: A total of 461 patients 18 years or younger who underwent ACL reconstruction were included in this study. Eighteen (3.90%) patients required reoperation for the development of arthrofibrosis. Skeletally immature patients were found to have a statistically significant lower rate of arthrofibrosis compared with skeletally mature patients (0% vs 4.80%; P=.0184). Patients with a higher weight and body mass index had an increased rate of arthrofibrosis (P=.0485 and P=.0410, respectively). Graft type did not have a significant impact on arthrofibrosis rates. There were no significant findings in terms of concomitant injuries and rate of arthrofibrosis. Conclusion: Arthrofibrosis developed in 3.90% of patients after ACL reconstruction. Skeletal immaturity may be protective against the development of arthrofibrosis. No association was found between graft type or concomitant knee pathology and arthrofibrosis. This paper introduces a method for automatically detecting bolus in ultrasound videos using YOLOv5 to evaluate swallowing function. Neck ultrasound videos show promise for noninvasive swallowing function evaluation to prevent aspiration pneumonia. To effectively evaluate swallowing, it is essential to determine the position of the bolus, appearance frame, and size within the video. Currently, this evaluation relies on visual inspection by an examiner, requiring considerable effort. Therefore, this study aims to automate bolus detection in ultrasound videos using YOLOv5, widely used in object detection. Background/Aim: Aggressive breast cancer (BC) cells show high expression of Rho GTPase activating protein 29 (ARHGAP29), a negative regulator of RhoA. In breast cancer cells in which mesenchymal transformation was induced, ARHGAP29 was the only one of 32 GTPaseactivating enzymes whose expression increased significantly. Therefore, we investigated whether there is a correlation between expression of ARHGAP29 and tumor progression in BC. Since tamoxifen-resistant BC cells exhibit increased mesenchymal properties and invasiveness, we additionally investigated the relationship between ARHGAP29 and increased invasion rate in tamoxifen resistance. The question arises as to whether ARHGAP29 is a suitable prognostic marker for the progression of BC. Materials and Methods: Tissue microarrays were used to investigate expression of ARHGAP29 in BC and adjacent normal breast tissues. Knockdown experiments using siRNA were performed to investigate the influence of ARHGAP29 and the possible downstream actors RhoC and pAKT1 on invasive growth of tamoxifen-resistant BC spheroids in vitro. Results: Expression of ARHGAP29 was frequently increased in BC tissues compared to adjacent normal breast tissues. In addition, there was evidence of a correlation between high ARHGAP29 expression and advanced clinical tumor stage. Tamoxifenresistant BC cells show a significantly higher expression of ARHGAP29 compared to their parental wild-type cells. After knockdown of ARHGAP29 in tamoxifen-resistant BC cells, expression of RhoC was significantly reduced. Further, expression of pAKT1 decreased significantly. Invasive growth of three-dimensional tamoxifen-resistant BC spheroids was reduced after knockdown of ARHGAP29. This could be partially reversed by AKT1 activator SC79. Conclusion: Expression of ARHGAP29 correlates with the clinical tumor parameters of BC patients. In addition, ARHGAP29 is involved in increased invasiveness of tamoxifen-resistant BC cells. The catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane (CH4) through the "Sabatier reaction", also known as CO2 methanation, presents a promising avenue for establishing a closed carbon loop. However, the competitive reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction severely limits CH4 production at lower temperatures; therefore, developing highly efficient and selective catalysts for CO2 methanation is imperative. In this regard, we have developed a novel nanocatalyst comprising atomic scale Mn2O3 species decorated in the defect sites of TiO2-supported Ni-hydroxide nanoparticles with abundant oxygen vacancies (hereafter denoted as NiMn-1). The as-prepared NiMn-1 catalyst initiates the CO2 methanation at a temperature of 523 K and delivers an optimal CH4 production yield of 21,312 mmol g−1 h−1 with a CH4 selectivity as high as ~92% at 573 K, which is 45% higher as compared to its monometallic counterpart Ni-TiO2 (14,741 mmol g−1 h−1). Physical investigations combined with gas chromatography analysis corroborate that the exceptional activity and selectivity of the NiMn-1 catalyst stem from the synergistic cooperation between adjacent active sites on its surface. Specifically, the high density of oxygen vacancies in Ni-hydroxide and adjacent Mn2O3 domains facilitate CO2 activation, while the metallic Ni domains trigger H2 splitting. This research presents the efficacy of polymeric microneedles in improving the transdermal permeation of methotrexate across human skin. These microneedles were fabricated from PLGA Expansorb® 50-2A and 50-8A and subjected to comprehensive characterization via scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and mechanical analysis. We developed and assessed a methotrexate hydrogel for physicochemical and rheological properties. Dye binding, histological examinations, and assessments of skin integrity demonstrated the effective microporation of the skin by PLGA microneedles. We measured the dimensions of microchannels in the skin using scanning electron microscopy, pore uniformity analysis, and confocal microscopy. The skin permeation and disposition of methotrexate were researched in vitro. PLGA 50-8A microneedles appeared significantly longer, sharper, and more mechanically uniform than PLGA 50-2A needles. PLGA 50-8A needles generated substantially more microchannels, as well as deeper, larger, and more uniform channels in the skin than PLGA 50-2A needles. Microneedle insertion substantially reduced skin electrical resistance, accompanied by an elevation in transepidermal water loss values. PLGA 50-8A microneedle treatment provided a significantly higher cumulative delivery, flux, diffusion coefficient, permeability coefficient, and predicted steady-state plasma concentration; however, there was a shorter lag time than for PLGA 50-2A needles, base-treated, and untreated groups (p < 0.05). The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their adipogenic derivatives on the relative abundances (RAs) noticed for mRNA transcripts of the selected adipokines (adiponectin and leptin) and their receptors. MSCs were isolated from bone marrow (BM) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (AT) samples collected post mortem from a total of four gilts (each at the age of 6 months). The stemness of the MSCs was proven via recognizing their abilities to differentiate into adipocytes, osteoblasts, and chondrocytes. By using real-time PCR (RT -qPCR), the quantitative levels of transcriptional activity pinpointed for the adiponectin (ADIPOQ), adiponectin receptor 1 (ADIPOR1), adiponectin receptor 2 (ADIPOR2), leptin (LEP), and leptin receptor (LEPR) genes were comparatively analyzed between non-differentiated AT -MSCs and BM-MSCs and their cell counterparts undergoing differentiation into adipocytes. A significantly higher RA for ADIPOR1 transcripts was identified in the AT-MSCs compared to the BM-MSCs and their adipogenic derivatives (P≤0.05). Moreover, the quantitative levels of LEPR transcripts were shown to increase significantly among adipocytes originating from differentiated BM-MSCs compared to undifferentiated BM-MSCs, AT -MSCs, and AT -MSC-derived adipocytes (P≤0.05). Nonetheless, there was no significant inter-group variability in the RAs of the ADIPOQ, ADIPOR2, or LEP mRNA transcripts (P>0.05). Cumulatively, the in vitro models focused on the identification and detailed exploration of transcriptomic signatures of undifferentiated pig BM- and AT -MSCs, and the molecular mechanisms underlying the adipogenic differentiation pathways of the above-indicated two distinct sources of stem cells were developed and optimized in the current investigation for the very first time. These ex vivo porcine models might confirm the expedited functional mobilization of ex situ-protected MSCs and their enhanced capacity to be transcriptionally reprogrammed into adipocytes due to physiopathological alterations in the expression profiles of adipokines and their receptors, which are prompted and progressed in obese and superobese women patients at the peri-pubertal period of ontogenesis. Finally, the models providing comprehensive molecular insights into ex situ-protected porcine BM- and AT -derived MSCs and their differentiated derivatives can be largely suitable for the biotechnologically assisted rescue and restitution of endangered representatives of rare native breeds of domestic pig. Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is classified as the narrowing or complete occlusion of the lower extremity arteries due to atherosclerosis. The risk of developing PAD increases with increased age and risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia. Current treatment for PAD involves lifestyle and symptom management, statin and antiplatelet therapy, and/or surgical interventions to improve quality of life with varying efficacy. PAD affects approximately 5 to 6 percent of the global population, with this global burden continuing to increase. Despite the increase in disease prevalence, no gold standard functional diagnostic tool has been established for enabling early detection of the disease, appropriate medical management, and prediction of adverse outcomes for PAD patients. The visualization and quantification of the physiological consequences of PAD are possible by way of nuclear imaging: specifically, via scintigraphy, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. These non-invasive modalities, when combined with targeted radionuclides, possess utility for detecting functional perfusion deficits and provide unique insight into muscle tissue- and vascular-level characteristics of PAD patients. We aimed to produce a mouse model of spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) using the mouse blood–brain barrier (BBB)-penetrating adeno-associated virus (AAV)-PHP.B. Four-to-five-week-old C57BL/6 mice received injections of high-dose (2.0 × 1011 vg/mouse) or low-dose (5.0 × 1010 vg/mouse) AAV-PHP.B encoding a SCA3 causative gene containing abnormally long 89 CAG repeats [ATXN3(Q89)] under the control of the ubiquitous chicken β-actin hybrid (CBh) promoter. Control mice received high doses of AAV-PHP.B encoding ATXN3 with non-pathogenic 15 CAG repeats [ATXN3(Q15)] or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) alone. More than half of the mice injected with high doses of AAV-PHP.B encoding ATXN3(Q89) died within 4 weeks after the injection. No mice in other groups died during the 12-week observation period. Mice injected with low doses of AAV-PHP.B encoding ATXN3(Q89) exhibited progressive motor uncoordination starting 4 weeks and a shorter stride in footprint analysis performed at 12 weeks post-AAV injection. Immunohistochemistry showed thinning of the molecular layer and the formation of nuclear inclusions in Purkinje cells from mice injected with low doses of AAV-PHP.B encoding ATXN3(Q89). Moreover, ATXN3(Q89) expression significantly reduced the number of large projection neurons in the cerebellar nuclei to one third of that observed in mice expressing ATXN3(Q15). This AAV-based approach is superior to conventional methods in that the required number of model mice can be created simply by injecting AAV, and the expression levels of the responsible gene can be adjusted by changing the amount of AAV injected. Influenza A virus (IAV) can rapidly disseminate among animals through various transmission routes, with emerging evidence suggesting the ocular surface as an important entrance. However, it remains unclear how the virus invades the respiratory tract after ocular exposure. Here, we demonstrated that H1N1 (A/swine/Guangdong/1/2011) utilizes the nasolacrimal system to rapidly spread from the ocular surface to the respiratory tract in the porcine model. In vivo and ex vivo, IAV could efficiently attach and replicate in conjunctiva epithelium, which has abundance of α‐2,6‐linked and α‐2,3‐linked sialic acid. After ocular inoculation, infectious virions swiftly migrate to the nasolacrimal duct of piglets and, via continual drainage, disseminate to the respiratory tract. Moreover, the detection of continual virus shedding as well as the successful isolation of virus from conjunctiva and respiratory tract tissue indicated the establishment of productive infection after the transocular route. This study presents evidence suggesting that IAVs could utilize the nasolacrimal system to swiftly spread to the respiratory tract following ocular exposure, which contributes to understanding the modes of transocular transmission of IAVs. Estimating nonlinear functions of quantum states, such as the moment tr ( ρ m ) , is of fundamental and practical interest in quantum science and technology. Here we show a quantum-classical hybrid framework to measure them, where the quantum part is constituted by the generalized swap test, and the classical part is realized by postprocessing the result from randomized measurements. This hybrid framework utilizes the partial coherent power of the intermediate-scale quantum processor and, at the same time, dramatically reduces the number of quantum measurements and the cost of classical postprocessing. Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is frequently associated with autoimmune disease. Although PBC complicated with CREST syndrome (PBC-CREST) has been reported, the long-term outcomes of the affected patients have not been fully investigated. Herein, the long-term outcomes of PBC-CREST were evaluated. Next, the GLOBE and UK-PBC scores were validated and compared between the PBC alone and PBC-CREST groups. A total of 302 patients who were diagnosed with PBC between December 1990 and August 2021 at Fukushima Medical University Hospital were included. The liver transplantation (LT)-free survival rates were compared between patients with PBC alone (n = 245) and those with PBC-CREST (n = 57). Moreover, 173 patients, excluding those with liver-related death/LT within 1 year after ursodeoxycholic acid administration, were divided into two subgroups (PBC alone (n = 147) and PBC-CREST (n = 26)), and the GLOBE and UK-PBC scores were compared between the subgroups. The survival rates without LT (3/5/10 years) were 92/87/80% for the PBC-alone group and 98/96/96% for the PBC-CREST group, with a significantly better prognosis in the PBC-CREST group (log-rank P = 0.0172). Multivariate analysis revealed that the presence of CREST syndrome is an independent protective factor for the presence of cirrhosis. The predicted 5/10/15-year risks of liver-related death or LT based on the UK-PBC score were significantly lower in the PBC-CREST group (2.4/7.6/13.2%) than in the PBC-alone group (4.8/11.8/18.8%) (P < 0.05). The predicted 3/5-year LT-free survival rates based on the GLOBE score were significantly higher in the PBC-CREST group (93/88%) than in the PBC-alone group (88/81%) (P < 0.05). Areca nut, the seed of Areca catechu L., is one of the most widely consumed addictive substances in the world after nicotine, ethanol, and caffeine. The major effective constituent of A. catechu, arecoline, has been reported to affect the central nervous system. Less is known if it may affect pain and its related emotional responses. In this study, we found that oral application of arecoline alleviated the inflammatory pain and its induced anxiolytic and anti-depressive-like behavior. Arecoline also increased the mechanical nociceptive threshold and alleviated depression-like behavior in naïve mice. In the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), which acts as a hinge of nociception and its related anxiety and depression, by using the multi-electrode field potential recording and whole-cell patch-clamp recording, we found that the evoked postsynaptic transmission in the ACC of adult mice has been inhibited by the application of arecoline. The muscarinic receptor is the major receptor of the arecoline in the ACC. Our results suggest that arecoline alleviates pain, anxiety, and depression-like behavior in both physiological and pathological conditions, and this new mechanism may help to treat patients with chronic pain and its related anxiety and disorder in the future. Background: Due to the distinctive nature of cardiac surgery, patients suffering from hereditary spherocytosis (HS) are potentially at a high risk of perioperative complications resulting from hemolysis. Despite being the most prevalent cause of hereditary chronic hemolysis, the standards of surgical management are based solely on expert opinion. Objective: We analyze the risk of hemolysis in HS patients after cardiac surgery based on a systematic review of the literature. We also describe a case of a patient with hereditary spherocytosis who underwent aortic valve repair. Methods: This systematic review was registered in the PROSPERO international prospective register of systematic reviews (CRD42023417666) and included records from Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. The case study investigates a 38-year-old patient who underwent surgery for an aortic valve defect in mid-2022. Results: Of the 787 search results, 21 studies describing 23 cases of HS undergoing cardiac surgery were included in the final analysis. Hemolysis was diagnosed in five patients (one coronary artery bypass graft surgery, two aortic valve bioprosthesis, one ventricular septal defect closure, and one mitral valve plasty). None of the patients died in the perioperative period. Also, no significant clinical hemolysis was observed in our patient during the perioperative period. Conclusions: The literature data show that hemolysis is not common in patients with HS undergoing various cardiac surgery techniques. The typical management of a patient with mild/moderate HS does not appear to increase the risk of significant clinical hemolysis. Background: Drug design is a challenging and important task that requires the generation of novel and effective molecules that can bind to specific protein targets. Artificial intelligence algorithms have recently showed promising potential to expedite the drug design process. However, existing methods adopt multi-objective approaches which limits the number of objectives. Results: In this paper, we expand this thread of research from the many-objective perspective, by proposing a novel framework that integrates a latent Transformer-based model for molecular generation, with a drug design system that incorporates absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity prediction, molecular docking, and many-objective metaheuristics. We compared the performance of two latent Transformer models (ReLSO and FragNet) on a molecular generation task and show that ReLSO outperforms FragNet in terms of reconstruction and latent space organization. We then explored six different many-objective metaheuristics based on evolutionary algorithms and particle swarm optimization on a drug design task involving potential drug candidates to human lysophosphatidic acid receptor 1, a cancer-related protein target. Conclusion: We show that multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on dominance and decomposition performs the best in terms of finding molecules that satisfy many objectives, such as high binding affinity and low toxicity, and high drug-likeness. The epidemic norovirus causes vomiting and diarrhea and is a highly contagious infection. The disease is affecting human lives in terms of deaths and medical expenses. This study examines the governing dynamics of norovirus by incorporating Lévy noise into a stochastic S I R W F (susceptible, infected, recovered, water contamination, and food contamination) model. The existence of a non-negative solution and its uniqueness are proved after model formulation. Subsequently, the threshold parameter is calculated, and this number is used to explore the conditions under which disease tends to exist in the population. Likewise, additional conditions are derived that ensure the elimination of the disease from the community. It is proved that the norovirus is extinct whenever the threshold parameter is less than one and it persists for R s > 1 . The work assumes two working examples to numerically explain the theoretical findings. Simulations of the study are visually presented, and comparisons are made.
