It is significant that five of the eight "star-spangled fascist" leaders reported in the journal Saturday Evening Post on May 1938 are located in Southern states. It is significant that twenty-two of the twenty-seven bills against alien radicals introduced in the U.S. Congress during the present session came from Southern members. This is not to say that the South is going, or has gone, fascist. It is simply to report that at a critical time for this part of the country the temperament, history and circumstance, which have so often in the past made certain Southerners feel that sharp measures must be taken to maintain a certain rule are repeating themselves.

The Negro leaders are tolerant and understanding of the white man's efforts to square things for the Negro workers. They realize that the white people are struggling to keep open the doors and ease the strain of new relations.
