This study addresses a practical problem within a multi-level supply chain where a wide range of customers can be served through different strategies such as make-to-stock, make-to-order, or vendor-managed inventory. The customer demand is stochastic, and sensitive to pricing associated with different production-inventory strategies. We propose a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer non-linear programming model. In the first stage, decisions are made regarding the selection of production-inventory strategies and pricing to maximise the expected profit. The second stage involves decisions related to production, inventory, and distribution, which are used to evaluate the first-stage decisions under various scenarios with different levels of accuracy. To solve the model, a metaheuristic approach based on the Simulated Annealing algorithm is developed. To showcase the practical applicability of our model and solution approach, we use a real case study in a Canadian pulp and paper supply chain. The results revealed that both the production-inventory strategy assigned to customers and the sales price underwent changes across scenarios. Furthermore, we demonstrated that by implementing the SA algorithm, we could improve the initial profit by up to 1.43% through slight adjustments in the sales price and assigned strategies for customers. In the papermaking industry, cellulose fibers often undergo a bleaching process which affects the surface of the fibers, or their overall morphology. The surface of the produced paper, which is most often used as a printing substrate, depends on the production method, the arrangement of the cellulose fibers, and the quantity and fineness of the filler. The micro-irregularities caused by the uneven distribution of fibers and surface particles of the filler make the paper's surface rough and affect the print quality and its stability when exposed to light from the moment of production to use. The unbleached cellulose fibers in the printing substrate contain natural pigments, lignin and hemicellulose that absorb UV radiation, as opposed to bleached fibers, which have higher whiteness and lightfastness. Therefore, the influence of UV radiation on the surface roughness of prints made on papers with natural unbleached and bleached hemp fibers was analyzed. This research confirmed that papers formed from unbleached fibers have rougher surface and that printed graphic products from bleached fibers have higher stability to UV radiation than those from natural, unbleached hemp fibers after 96 h of treatment in the Suntest chamber. Featured Application: A paper-based triboelectric nanogenerator using carbon nanotube composite papers, as developed in this study, has the potential to be used as an energy harvester in fields such as the Internet of Things (IoT). A unique triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) using carbon nanotube (CNT) composite papers is proposed in this work. CNT composite papers can be fabricated easily using a method based on the production of Japanese washi paper. To obtain and evaluate the proposed TENGs, several types of CNT composite papers and aluminum plates were prepared. As the CNT composite paper contained many paper fibers, it was expected to be negatively charged, and the aluminum plate was expected to be positively charged across the triboelectric series. Through various experiments, it was confirmed that CNT composite papers could be used as TENGs. In addition, it was found that when a CNT composite paper was used, it contributed to triboelectricity generation, and the contained CNTs efficiently transferred the generated charge to the electrodes. Furthermore, output voltages approaching a maximum RMS value of 300 mV could be obtained. The results of this study will aid in the practical application of paper-based TENGs in the near future. With the advent of artificial intelligence digitization, intangible cultural heritage faces challenges in preservation and transmission. Utilizing modern technology to achieve digital protection and dissemination has become a crucial issue today. This study enhances the digital inheritance and development of Chinese intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting art through generative AI technologies, specifically Diffusion and LoRA models. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was employed to categorize the cultural value of paper-cutting, selecting four core elements: "Spring Festival", "Chinese Zodiac", "Women", and "Birds and Flowers". Based on these, eight LoRA models were developed to generate paper-cutting-style patterns (using the FLUX.1-dev and Stable Diffusion 1.5 models). In the user satisfaction assessment, the Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) method was used to analyze four dimensions of the model experience. The results indicate that the LoRA model excels in generating detailed paper-cutting patterns and accurately reproducing cultural elements, particularly in the generation of complex Chinese character designs. User feedback suggests that the LoRA model effectively enhances the digital representation and dissemination of paper-cutting art, though there is room for improvement in terms of generation speed and ease of operation. Packaging waste makes up more than 10% of the landfilled waste in the United States. While consumers often want to make environmentally friendly product choices, we find that their perceptions of the environmental friendliness of product packaging may systematically deviate from its objective environmental friendliness. Eight studies (N = 4,103) document the perceived environmental friendliness (PEF) bias whereby consumers judge plastic packaging with additional paper to be more environmentally friendly than identical plastic packaging without the paper. The PEF bias is driven by consumers' "paper = good, plastic = bad" beliefs and by proportional reasoning, wherein packaging with a greater paper-to-plastic proportion is judged as more environmentally friendly. We further show that the PEF bias impacts consumers' willingness to pay and product choice. Importantly, this bias can be mitigated by a "minimal packaging sticker" intervention, which increases the environmental friendliness perceptions of plastic-only packaging, rendering plastic-packaged products to be preferable to their plastic-plus-paper-packaged counterparts. This research contributes to the packaging literature in marketing and to research on sustainability while offering practical implications for managers and public policy officials. In this paper, we report a novel method for enhancing the flame retardancy of wood-based paper by utilizing natural biomaterials. The research constructed a bilayered structure coating on paper fiber surfaces, incorporating mixed starch (MS), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and phytic acid (PA) as natural bio-based flame retardants. The structural configuration of the coating comprises MS/ATP and MS/PA, which were sequentially assembled as bottom and top parts, respectively, through pneumatic spraying. The surface morphological features and elemental distribution analysis of treated paper indicated that bio-materials were successfully assembled, which resulted in a uniform flame retardant coating on the paper fiber surface. Compared to the untreated paper, the limiting oxygen index of 20 bilayers (BL) treated paper increased substantially from 19.07% to 24.00%, and the thermogravimetric analysis showed out the residual char yield enhanced from 23.80% to 38.10% under nitrogen atmosphere. The cone calorimeter test results of 20 BL treated paper have approximately a 50.00% reduction than the untreated paper in both peak and total heat release rates. During thermal exposure, the top and bottom parts of the bilayered structure coating are successively flame retarded prior to paper fiber degrading. With the continuous increase in the number of academic researchers, the volume of scientific papers is also increasing rapidly. The challenge of identifying papers with greater potential academic impact from this large pool has received increasing attention. The citation frequency of a paper is often used as an objective indicator to gauge the academic influence of the paper. The task of citation frequency prediction based on historical citation data in previous studies can achieve high accuracy. However, it can only be executed after the paper has been published for a period. The delay is not conducive to timely discovery of papers with high citation frequency. In this paper, we propose a novel method for predicting cited potential of a paper based on the metadata and semantic information, which can predict the cited potential of academic paper instantly once it has been published. Specifically, the semantic information, such as abstract, semantic span and semantic inflection, is extracted to enhance the ability of the prediction model based on machine learning. To prove the effectiveness and rationality of cited potential prediction model, we conduct two experiments to validate the model and find the most effective combination of input information. The processing of paper sludge is currently an important environmental topic due to its high global production. The aim of this study is to monitor the biodegradation of paper sludge when the initial conditions change. Biodegradability tests 301F and OECD 311 were used to determine biodegradation. The data obtained from the tests were subsequently obtained for the simulation in MATLAB R2023b. The highest aerobic decomposition was approximately 80% after 28 days at an initial concentration of paper sludge leachate of 76 g/L. By simulating 3D modelling, we can predict that with a retention time of 1 day with degradation under aerobic conditions at the level of 70%, the ideal initial concentration of organic substances will be 157.55 g/L. Based on this model, it is possible to estimate that with a biogas production of 554 m3/tVS and a decomposition time of 20 days, it is necessary to set a concentration of approximately 128 g/L. Handmade papers, as carriers of paper-based cultural relics, have played a crucial role in the development of human culture, knowledge, and civilization. Understanding the intricate relationship between the structural properties and degradation mechanisms of handmade papers is essential for the conservation of historical documents. In this work, an artificial dry-heat-accelerated aging method was used to investigate the interplay among the mechanical properties of paper, the degree of polymerization (DP) of cellulose, the chemical composition, the hydrogen bond strength, the crystallinity, and the degree of hornification for paper fibers. The results demonstrated for the first time that the mechanical properties of handmade bamboo paper exhibited an initial plateau region, a rapid decline region, and sometimes a second plateau region as it undergoes a dry-heat aging process. The changes in cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin content were tracked throughout these three stages. The lignin content was relatively stable, while the cellulose and hemicellulose content decreased, which was consistent with the observed decline in mechanical properties. When the DP of cellulose decreased to the range of 600–400, there was a critical point in the mechanical properties of the paper, marking a transition from the initial stable region to a rapid decline region. The fiber embrittlement caused by cellulose chain breakage resulting from the decrease in DP was counteracted by the enhancement of intermolecular hydrogen bonds and the hornification process. A second stable region appeared when the DP was less than 400, marking a transition from a balanced or slightly decreasing trend in the initial plateau region to a sharp decline. This study also discussed for the first time that the formation of the second plateau region may be due to the presence of hemicellulose and lignin, which hinder the further aggregation of cellulose and maintain the structural stability of the fiber cell. The findings of this study can provide guidance for improving ancient book preservation strategies. On the one hand, understanding how these components affect the durability of paper can help us better predict and slow down the aging of ancient books. This study introduces a novel paper coating approach using modified zinc oxide (ZnO), providing a comparison with conventional materials used in the paper industry. The research focused on determining the concentration for effective microbial growth inhibition and evaluates the impact of different ZnO types on coated-paper properties, including antimicrobial activity, surface morphology, tensile strength, and water absorption. Specifically, ZnO microparticles (ZnOws), ZnO nanoparticles (ZnOnp), and modified ZnOnp (ZnOnp-CaCO3, with a core–shell structure composed of calcium carbonate [CaCO3] and nano-zinc oxide) were incorporated into coating formulations at varying concentrations (0 × MIC, 1 × MIC, 2 × MIC, and 3 × MIC, based on minimum inhibitory concentrations [MICs]). The results demonstrated that among all tested microorganisms, ZnOnp-CaCO3 showed the lowest MIC values. ZnOnp-CaCO3-coated paper exhibited superior antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi, outperforming ZnOws and ZnOnp. At 1 × MIC, %inhibition for E. coli, S. aureus, and A. niger were 98.3%, 99.1%, and 90.8%, respectively. Additionally, ZnOnp-CaCO3 coatings caused minimal color change in the paper compared to the other ZnO variants. The coating did not negatively impact the mechanical properties of the paper across all ZnO types and concentrations. Water absorption tests showed increased hydrophobicity with higher ZnO content, with ZnOnp and ZnOnp-CaCO3 exhibiting greater reductions in water absorption than ZnOws. Overall, ZnOnp-CaCO3 showed strong potential as an antimicrobial agent for paper surfaces, making it ideal for packaging and hygiene products. By partially replacing ZnOnp with inexpensive CaCO3 core particles, ZnOnp-CaCO3 delivers enhanced performance, reduced costs, and greater sustainability for large-scale applications. The mechanical and dielectric properties of transformer insulating paper are key factors that require close attention to ensure optimal operation. In this study, a novel approach of enhancing properties by nanocellulose modification was proposed. To investigate the effect of doping, insulating paper with different doping mass fractions of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) was prepared, and multiple properties of the sample were characterized. By applying a doping concentration gradient, the non-monotonic trend in performance with doping levels was revealed, and the impact of doping concentration on the data variability was investigated. The effects of CNC doping on the surface pore size of the samples were analyzed by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and a mercury intrusion method, and the regularity of CNC dispersion uniformity with doping concentration was investigated. The Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller model was employed to fit the water vapor adsorption isotherm data, providing an analysis of the impact of doping on hydrogen bond connections and the moisture adsorption properties. Tensile strength and Young's modulus were measured and analyzed using the Page model and the Halpin–Kardos model. The tensile strength of the 6 wt. % CNC-modified paper was increased by 6.91%. 10 wt. % CNC-modified paper had a Young's modulus increase of 11.98%. 3 wt. % CNC-modified paper has a 28.53% increase in the AC breakdown field strength and an 8.72% increase in the DC breakdown field strength. The influence of CNC on the dielectric properties of the insulating paper was discussed using the Havriliak–Negami (H–N) model. Purpose: The purpose of this survey was to create a list of essential historical and contemporary readings for undergraduate and graduate students in the field of exercise physiology. Methods: Fifty-two exercise physiologists/sport scientists served as referees, and each nominated ∼25 papers for inclusion in the list. In total, 396 papers were nominated by the referees. This list was then sent back to the referees, with the instructions to nominate the "100 essential papers in sports and exercise physiology." Results: The referees cast 4722 votes. The 100 papers with the highest number of votes received 51% (2406) of the total number of votes. A total of 37 papers in the list of "100 essential papers" were published >50 years ago, and 63 papers were published since 1973. Conclusions: This list of essential studies will provide a perspective on contemporary studies, the "giant's shoulders" to enable young scholars to "see further" or to understand where they have "come from." This compilation is also meant to impress on students that, given the (lack of) technology available in the past, some of the early science required enormous intuitive leaps on the part of historical scientists. Effective disaster management relies heavily on robust logistics, which ensures efficient supply and support chains. A key strategy for maintaining operational continuity in healthcare systems during disruptions is to improve the resilience of supply chains and adapt to unpredictable events. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for adaptable healthcare supply chains, exemplified by factories pivoting to produce essential personal protective equipment. Despite the critical importance of quantitative models in healthcare supply chain management, their application has a noticeable gap. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool to address these complexities, offering solutions for diagnostics, chronic disease management, and logistics optimisation. AI technologies enhance patient care and improve healthcare logistics, proving invaluable in disaster scenarios. This special issue aims to explore innovative AI-based approaches to tackle the challenges faced by healthcare supply chains, especially in the context of recent disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated shortages of essential medicines and increased patient demand. The editors of the journal focus on publication barriers in Academy of Management Review by conducting informal interviews with scholars from locations not currently represented in top management journals. These interviews provide key challenges in relation to patterns of training and national culture. The editors then propose solutions to these challenges including theory development as well as inclusive training and publishing opportunities.

We propose a spatial equilibrium problem for a pulp and paper supply chain network under the Emission Trading System (ETS) and the circular economy principles. The developed closed-loop supply chain model, based on the variational inequality theory, accounts for the forest deployment and the production of paper using both virgin pulp and recyclable paper waste in an area that is subject to the ETS. In addition, it considers the exchanges of virgin pulp, paper, recyclable and not-recyclable paper waste between this regulated area and geographical zones where no environmental policies apply. The aim of this paper is to investigate the ETS impacts on the pulp and paper industries located in an environmentally regulated area in terms of operating costs, production and trading volumes of the aforementioned commodities, and emissions generated. The case study focuses on the European pulp and paper companies, which are among the energy-intensive industries deemed to be exposed to the carbon leakage risk as a consequence of the ETS application. Sensitivity analyses on the carbon price value and on the trade flexibility are conducted. Our results show that the ETS implies additional costs for the European pulp and paper companies and induces them to resort more on imports of virgin pulp and paper from not-regulated zones. In the present study, office waste paper was employed as feedstock for bioethanol production. Lignocellulosic material was pre-treated with dilute sulphuric acid (5 %) to release monomeric sugars. Acid pretreatment of waste papers was carried out at different ratios of 10, 15, and 20 ml for each 1 gm of raw material to obtain the best yield of hydrolysate. After the pH adjustment of each paper hydrolysate, the hydrolysate was subjected to fermentation and distillation processes respectively. The fermentation process was performed using Saccharomyces Cerevisiae to convert the released sugars to bio-ethanol as a main product. The highest bio-ethanol yield (28.3%) was obtained at a high concentration from the yeast fermentation using waste paper pretreated with acid at a ratio of 10:1 ml/gm (liquid to solid). Economically, office waste paper is a suitable raw material for sustainable bio-ethanol production. Furthermore, bioethanol obtained was blended with pure gasoline at increasingly higher concentrations. A gasohol was homogenously mixed with four formulated fuels such as gasoline blend (E0), gasoline–5% bio-ethanol blend (E5), gasoline–10% bio-ethanol blend (E10), and gasoline–15% bio-ethanol blend (E15). It is critical to investigate the effect of various bio-ethanol blends on the characteristics and performance of internal combustion fuel. These binary mixtures were tested using density, Ried vapor pressure (RVP), and Research Octane Number (RON) tester according to the ASTM-D4052, ASTM-D6378, and ASTM-D2699 respectively under selected operating conditions. The results obtained revealed that the addition of gasoline–bioethanol blend decreases the RVP value of the fuel blend, whereas the RON and density increase because bioethanol has a high octane rating compared to conventional gasoline, resulting in enhanced gasoline’s performance in internal combustion engines. A metallurgical failure analysis with an added statistical analysis was conducted on a series of paper clips that had undergone cyclic torsional testing and reversed bend testing to put to rest the concept that reversed bending of a paper clip is an example of a fatigue failure. The paper clips showed characteristics of cold working and subsequent failure due to ductile overload fracture. Performing a Weibull analysis on a separate batch of ten paper clips confirmed that the failure distribution was characteristic of rapid wear out rather than random failure which is typical of fatigue distribution. Purpose: The composition of author teams is a significant factor affecting the novelty of academic papers. Existing research lacks studies focusing on institutional types and measures of novelty remained at a general level, making it difficult to analyse the types of novelty in papers and to provide a detailed explanation of novelty. This study aims to take the field of natural language processing (NLP) as an example to analyse the relationship between team institutional composition and the fine-grained novelty of academic papers. Design/methodology/approach: Firstly, author teams are categorized into three types: academic institutions, industrial institutions and mixed academic and industrial institutions. Next, the authors extract four types of entities from the full paper: methods, data sets, tools and metric. The novelty of papers is evaluated using entity combination measurement methods. Additionally, pairwise combinations of different types of fine-grained entities are analysed to assess their contributions to novel papers. Findings: The results of the study found that in the field of NLP, for industrial institutions, collaboration with academic institutions has a higher probability of producing novel papers. From the contribution rate of different types of fine-grained knowledge entities, the mixed academic and industrial institutions pay more attention to the novelty of the combination of method indicators, and the industrial institutions pay more attention to the novelty of the combination of method tools. Originality/value: This paper explores the relationship between the team institutional composition and the novelty of academic papers and reveals the importance of cooperation between industry and academia through fine-grained novelty measurement, which provides key guidance for improving the quality of papers and promoting industry–university–research cooperation. These alternative formats address common challenges faced by theory paper authors, potentially increasing the impact and preserving core ideas of the original work. Authors are encouraged to utilize developmental feedback and resources to improve their manuscripts and explore different formats to advance their theoretical contributions, whether their initial submissions are successful or not.

The purpose of this study is reducing sustainable paper recycling at Thi-Qar University by using waste reduction techniques. It can be argued with much confidence that the idea of recycling paper can be successfully implemented in an academic institution. This can be done by merging the specific waste paper baskets, pulping machine and power from a renewable source with an already established local paper making company. The methods applied in this study are making company would be able to recoup a government subsidy that pays them to recycle paper in order to offset the cost of pulped paper which is 30% more expensive than raw wood pulp. The academic institution that implements this would save money on waste disposal, and cut its carbon footprint in half, by up to 600%, per year approximately five-six tons of CO2 instead of one-ton-two tones carbon offset for simply recycling the paper. All these steps could also be applied for recycling of the large amount of waste papers generated by students an idea that encounters high costs in recycling hence being rarely implemented. This could be achieved through urged use of the same paper disposal methods already in use, where the paper collected is pulped from the student paper waste bins once a week. The results of this article are more specific yet indirect environmental benefit concerns the recycling habits of students. By providing the means for students to recycle paper at their places of study, it is hoped that they will adopt similar practices in their homes and other areas of life and show that the practice of paper recycling at Thi-Qar University has a success rate of 98.42%. Additionally, a total revenue of $3,527.98 was collected from the value of recycled paper. This can be important, as it is today's young people who will shape the future condition of the environment. If a more conscientious attitude towards recycling can be established, the cumulative environmental benefits could be very significant. On the economic side, recycling paper can potentially save academic institutions a substantial amount of money on their waste disposal. This is because paper and cardboard often make up a high percentage of the waste and these are materials which can be recycled relatively cheaply. By decreasing the volume of general waste, a decrease in waste disposal costs can be achieved. If institutions take it a step further and decide to purchase only recycled paper products, this can also help accelerate the demand for recycled paper and its long-term economic feasibility. The benefits of paper recycling in academic institutions are undoubtedly far-reaching. Not only are the environmental benefits significant, but also the potential cost savings and impact on student attitudes. This study examines the implementation of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices in managing paper waste within Indonesian higher education institutions, focusing on the influence of recycling infrastructure, subjective norms, and recycling awareness on campus sustainability. Employing a quantitative approach with data from 224 students, the study utilized Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to evaluate relationships among key variables: Paper Waste Capacity (PWC), Subjective Norms (SN), Recycling Awareness (RA), and Ecosystem Sustainability (ES). Findings indicate that enhanced paper waste capacity significantly affects subjective norms around recycling, while subjective norms positively influence individual recycling awareness. Both subjective norms and recycling awareness significantly contribute to ecosystem sustainability, suggesting that GSCM practices, supported by accessible recycling infrastructure and normative reinforcement, can foster a culture of sustainability within universities. This study also highlights the importance of creating a recycling-supportive environment through social campaigns and peer initiatives. Background: Paper symptom diaries are a common tool for assessing motor fluctuations in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, but there are concerns about inaccuracies in the assessment of motor fluctuation due to recall bias and poor compliance. We, therefore, developed an electronic diary with reminder and real-time recording functions. Objectives and methods: To evaluate the effectiveness of the electronic diary, we compared compliance and motor fluctuation assessment with a paper diary. Nineteen PD patients were recruited and recorded paper diaries every 30 min from 8 am to 8 pm for 7 days, followed by 7 days of electronic diary recording using a smartphone and smartwatch. Prior to the recording period, the Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ)-39 and the Movement Disorders Society-sponsored Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-Revised (MDS-UPDRS) 1, 2, 3, 4 were measured. Patients completed a patient questionnaire on the usability of the diaries after the recording period. Results: Total reported time was significantly longer in paper diaries, but there was no significant difference in the number of entries (paper 115 [71–147] vs. electronic 109 [93–116], p = 0.77). There was a significant correlation between paper and electronic diaries with respect to motor status. ON time rate recorded in the electronic diary was significantly correlated with PDQ-39, MDS-UPDRS 1, 2, and 4, while MDS-UPDRS 1 was only correlated with ON time rate in the paper diary. The usability of our electronic diary was found to be satisfactory based on the results of patient questionnaire. Excessive copper (Cu2+) causes adverse effects on human health and the ecological environment. Traditional methods for detecting Cu2+ have drawbacks such as high detection costs, complex operating conditions, and being time consuming. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop simple detection methods to better meet specific health and environment quality needs. In this work, a paper-based fluorescence sensor was prepared (herein referred to as the as-prepared method) by immersing filter paper in aqueous polyethyleneimine (PEI) solution, and its potential use in Cu2+ detection was investigated. The results showed that the as-prepared paper samples, with fluorescence properties obtained by aggregation-induced luminescence of PEI, have selective recognition of Cu2+ based on the internal filtration effect, and the lowest detection limit is 0.03 μM. In addition, the relative error of this method is in the range of 1.80~2.23%, which is relatively comparable to the national standard method (0.63~630 μM), demonstrating high accuracy. The development and standardization of an effective inoculation technique are essential for reliable screening of crop genotypes. In this study, three inoculation methods—in vitro paper towel, in vitro agar, and soil inoculation in pots—were tested to evaluate the pathogenic potential of Macrophomina phaseolina, the causative agent of dry root rot (DRR). Since the pathogenicity of M. phaseolina is influenced by environmental factors, identifying a robust inoculation method is critical. Among the three techniques, the paper towel inoculation method resulted in the highest seedling mortality of 66.66% in cluster beans and 86.67% in cowpeas within just ten days, demonstrating its effectiveness. The agar inoculation technique, while successful, required 15 days to confirm pathogenicity, with seedling mortality rates of 63.33% for cowpeas and 53.33% for cluster beans. In contrast, the soil inoculation method showed comparatively lower mortality rates, with 36.66% for cluster beans and 26.67% for cowpeas. Based on these findings, the paper towel method emerged as the most efficient technique for inducing rapid pathogenicity in M. phaseolina in both cowpeas and cluster beans. Its suitability was further validated through the screening of released varieties of these crops compared against the soil inoculation method. Notably, genotypes that appeared moderately resistant under the soil inoculation method were found to range from susceptible to highly susceptible when evaluated using the paper towel technique. These results underscore the reliability of the paper towel method as a rapid and robust screening tool for identifying resistant genotypes of cowpea and cluster bean on a larger scale. Research into sustainable packaging materials has gained increasing importance due to the pressing environmental concerns related to plastic waste. The present study focused on developing a sustainable paper coating based on modified natural rubber (NR) latex filled with gelatin (GT). The graft copolymer latex of NR and poly(vinylbenzyl chloride) bearing quaternary ammonium groups, abbreviated as NR-g-QPVBC, was first synthesized. GT was then incorporated into the latex, and the combination of these materials resulted in a heat-sealable film with good tensile properties and a water barrier. The ionic crosslinking of the latex film was achieved by the reaction with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Heat-sealing studies of the NR-g-QPVBC latex film filled with GT (NR-g-QPVBC/GT) revealed its heat-sealability at 160 °C. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis further confirmed the diffusion of the chains across the interface during heat sealing. Dip coating was a method for depositing latex film on kraft paper. The paper coated with the NR-g-QPVBC/GT latex showed a significant increase in dry and wet-tensile strength compared to the uncoated paper. The sealing process was optimized to achieve a heat-seal strength of 755.31 N/m at a dwell time of 3 s and a temperature of 160 °C. Purpose: This study aims to compare and analyze the impact of the commonly used takeout packing (Kraft paper bowl and plastic bowl) through life cycle assessment, then certain suggestions for the development of green packaging could be provided. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, Simapro software was used to calculate and analyze the whole life cycle of takeout packaging from the stage of raw materials, production and processing and waste disposal. Findings: Twelve environmental categories were used to quantitatively analyze the environmental impact of the two different bowls. The results showed that the impact of Kraft paper bowl on the environment was less than that of plastic bowl, regardless of raw material, processing or waste stage. Kraft paper bowl was better than plastic bowl. Research limitations/implications: This study compared and analyzed the progress of 750-mL bowls made with different materials and specific specifications. Practical implications: Green packaging is the development trend of the future packaging and follows the principle of reduce, resue, recycle, degradable. According to the calculation results, corresponding suggestions can be put forward from production, processing, use, waste and other aspects, and make corresponding contributions to the development of green packaging. This work describes a novel technique for the measurement of inorganic arsenic in water by generating arsine gas and detecting the conductivity of moving protons, H+ (aqueous or aq), produced by the reaction: Ag+ (aq) + AsH3 (gas, g) → AgAsH2 (solid, s) + H+ (aq). The detection is based on an electrochemical gradient of protons in a confined porous substrate (filter paper) and measures the change in the conductance due to the higher mobility of H+ compared to other ions. The conductance was measured with a pair of silver electrodes attached to opposite sides of the substrate with a bipolar pulse conductance technique. The method is established in theory and in practice. The theoretical equation for conductance change shows that a constant increase in conductance is directly proportional to the As(total) concentration. The subject of this study is the optimization of the paper production process in one of Poland's leading paper mills. In addition to its primary objective of paper production, the company generates heat and electricity for internal consumption and external clients, including the local municipality. Surplus energy may be sold on the power exchange; however, this requires forecasting the quantity of energy to be sold 24 h in advance, which introduces an element of uncertainty. Production stoppages, often caused by random events such as paper breakage, force a power decrease in the CHP system, further complicating energy forecasting. To minimize the occurrence of such events, numerical taxonomy methods were employed to determine the optimal screen speed (Vs) and winding speed (Vn) for two paper machines, based on the type and weight of the paper produced. This analysis utilized detailed daily data collected by the company over the period 2015–2020. The findings contribute to minimizing the occurrence of paper roll tearing, thereby reducing the risk of inaccurate forecasts of the energy and heat produced by the CHP system. Excellent traditional culture is the root and soul of a nation, which is the carrier of historical precipitation and continuous development. In this aspect, Hubei folk art of carved paper-cutting has important cultural value and historical significance in the composition of Chinese traditional culture, which is a national intangible cultural heritage under key protection and urgently needs to be carried forward. This paper carried out an empirical study using the survey and comparative analysis methods on the feature extraction for Hubei folk art of carved paper-cutting. Through investigation and comparative analysis of vast artworks of Hubei carved paper-cutting, the classics are selected as the representative to extract the regional characteristics, the artistic values, and the composition and modelling methods. Results indicate that the common features exist on the artistic values in beautification of life and education, the composition principles of central-based, symmetry, balanced or conformal, and the modelling techniques using Yin and Yang carving, unobstructive perspective, distortion and exaggeration. However, the regional features in cultural expression, folklore communication, modelling skills are apparent and strong interlinked with the regional historical development in social activities, labor productivity and surrounding environment. This study provides a multi-dimensional perspective for the modern inheritance and development of traditional Hubei artworks of carved paper-cutting with specified characteristics. The manufacturing process for corrugated paper products is usually mass production and batch-by-batch production. Therefore, a high-speed mass production is required. Because the conveyer speed of the production line in a corrugated paper plant is very fast, unwanted material loss or even process interruption may occur during the cutting or clipping process if the corrugated paper on the conveyer is slanted. Hence, the paper alignment on a conveyer is important and necessary. In this study, we install photo-couples at both edges directly over the conveyer path to detect whether or not the corrugated paper is slanted from the number difference between non-activated photo-couples of the two edges. The deviated angle is calculated through a computer program using the detected information, and a servomotor-driven wheel aligns the paper in accordance with the calculated angle. Purpose: This paper comes in the context of the European International Business Academy (EIBA) History project, and the long period analysed was broken down in six time windows (1975–1981, 1982–1988, 1989–1995, 1996–2002, 2003–2012; and 2013–2020), in line with the periodisation followed in writing such history. The main purpose was to identify the key themes of the papers presented at EIBA conferences between 1975 and 2020. Design/methodology/approach: The analysis was carried out drawing on topic modelling, a machine-learning statistical solution that is capable of processing large volumes of text data. Findings: A set of 5,296 Competitive and Workshop papers was processed with the use of topic modelling. The method enabled to identify 24 underlying research topics. These were then grouped into nine higher-level categories. The results show a consistent growth in the number of papers presented, especially in the periods going from 1989–2012. This is a sign of an increasing attractiveness, openness and attendance in EIBA's annual conferences. Overall, the topics with the highest probabilities were topic 22 (Measuring and Assessing IB performance), followed ex-aequo by topics 13 (Evolutionary Approaches, Matrix Structures and Managerial Challenges) and 20 (Comparative Management Education and Behaviour) and then by topic 4 (Born Globals and International New Ventures). A key finding was the change in methodological approaches over time, with a significant increase in the use of sound quantitative and qualitative methods, instead of broad narratives mostly based on descriptive statistics. Research limitations/implications: Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), as a quantitative approach to analyse text data, has some limitations. LDA, along with other distributional models, may identify degrees of semantic relations between words, but is not able by itself to specify the kind of relation, entailing a possible loss of contextual information which might have been able to further assist in the study. Another limitation stems from the use of very old paper proceedings, whose quality was sometimes low, making reading difficult. Practical implications: This research provides a longitudinal perspective of the evolution of the key research topics in international business over about 45 years. Its findings are very important for all those who are interested on the evolution of the IB field. Social implications: The research provides an interesting perspective of the development of a scientific field as well as of a scientific community. Originality/value: The main contributions of this research are fourfold. Firstly, to the best of the authors' knowledge, it provides the most complete longitudinal analysis about the evolution of IB research topics published so far. Secondly, it extracts relevant information about the evolution of the IB research issues addressed at EIBA's annual conferences, enabling a 46-year longitudinal perspective on research interests as they emerged. Thirdly, it provides a successful application of topic modelling for the analysis of large volumes of textual data. Fire retardant CNTs/WPP/Gel composite papers were fabricated by incorporating bio-based carbon nanotubes (CNTs) recycled from mature beech pinewood sawdust (MB) and cellulosic waste printed paper (WPP) into a gelatin solution (Gel) and allowing the mixture to dry at room temperature. The CNTs within the WPP matrix formed a network, enhancing the mechanical and thermal properties of the resulting CNTs paper sheet. In comparison to pure WPP/Gel, CNTs/WPP/Gel exhibited superior flexibility, mechanical toughness, and notable flame retardancy characteristics. This study provides a unique and practical method for producing flame-retardant CNTs/WPP/Gel sheets, suitable for diverse industrial applications, especially packaging, where used paper materials pose a significant fire risk. Bio-CNT-based fire-resistant packaging offers enhanced safety during transportation and storage. The sheets demonstrated increased strength and stiffness, with optimal mechanical properties achieved at a 20% CNTs loading. Additionally, thermal stability was improved, as confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermogravimetry (DTG). Flame retardancy tests revealed a rise in LOI (Limiting Oxygen Index) values with increasing CNTs content, indicating the CNTs' effectiveness in inhibiting combustion. The compatibility of recycled paper, CNTs, and Gel suggests potential applications in industrial fields, capitalizing on the biocompatible and biodegradable nature of cellulose. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the B3LYP with the 6-31G(d) basis set were employed to optimize the stability of these compounds and elucidate their chemical interactions. The introduction of zeolite fillers containing silver, copper, zinc, etc. into paper gives it bacteriostatic properties. The purpose of this work was to clarify the role of zeolite and to elucidate the possibility of imparting antimicrobial properties to packaging paper more simply by introducing into the paper pulp not ready-made zeolite fillers, but mixtures of zeolite and a salt of the corresponding metal. The experiments used heulandite-bearing tuff from the Dzegwi-Tedzami deposit (Eastern Georgia) and its amorphized form, as well as salts - silver nitrate, copper chloride dihydrate and zinc chloride; the paper was made in laboratory. It has been found that the introduction of silver nitrate into paper pulp leads to the reduction of silver ions and the formation of Ag0 nanoparticles with average size of 38 nm, which is facilitated by the introduction of crystalline zeolite. Copper chloride dihydrate introduced into paper pulp forms both large (> 200 nm) crystallites and nanoparticles (< 20 nm), zinc chloride forms nanoparticles. Bacteriostatic properties of paper samples were tested by the disk diffusion method using the cultures of Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella enteritidis, Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, fungal pathogenic yeast Candida albicans and a fungus Aspergilus niger. Silver-containing paper without zeolite fillers has the lowest activity, and with the introduction of fillers, zinc-containing paper demonstrates the highest activity against all microorganisms. Crystalline zeolite filler enhances the effect of silver against Salmonella and Bacillus subtilis, while amorphous filler enhances the effect of zinc against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi; both zeolite fillers weaken the action of copper. Due to the scarcity of wood in some countries, it is necessary to replace it with other raw materials and at the same time use the waste material. The aim of this research is to use poppy waste straw for the efficient conversion of possible lignocellulosic materials – pulps and particleboards. Their suitability for the production of composites is assessed on the basis of selected physical or mechanical properties. Tensile strength index, burst strength index and air permeability by Gurley have been identified as critical properties of pulp made from poppy straw through two delignification methods. The better mechanical properties, i.e., tensile strength index, were achieved at 52.7 N·m/g for the sodium pulp, but the nitrate-alkali method also showed corresponding values at 45.9 N·m/g. Similar parameters to those of bagasse or similar fast-growing plants were achieved in particleboard production. Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (µPADs) have gained significant attention in analytical science and technology due to their numerous advantages over traditional analytical techniques, including cost-effectiveness, miniaturization, and sustainability. µPADs are widely used in point-of-care diagnostics, health monitoring, environmental detection, food safety, forensics, and security. Since the first report in 2007, there have been substantial advancements in their fabrication techniques, detection methods, and applications. Over the years, significant efforts and advancements have been made to improve the cost-effectiveness, manufacturing scalability, user-friendliness, and sustainability of µPADs. In this review, we explore the general trends and advancements in the fabrication, sensing methods, and applications of µPADs, highlighting key improvements and innovations. We also examine the eco-friendliness of µPADs and present real-world success stories from field studies and citizen science initiatives. Additionally, we address the challenges associated with transitioning µPADs from the lab to the field. The need for biodegradable and environmentally friendly materials is increasing due to resource shortages and rising levels of environmental pollution. Agro-food waste, which includes coffee grounds, is of great interest in the production of composite materials due to its low cost, low density, easy availability, non-abrasive nature, specific properties such as reduced wear on the machinery used, the absence of residues and toxic products, and biodegradable characteristics. The composite materials developed that include coffee grounds exhibit good characteristics. This field is evolving and requires further improvements, but, at this moment, it can be stated that coffee grounds are not just waste but can be transformed into a highly efficient material applicable in various domains. In this study, composite materials were prepared using paper pulp as a matrix, coffee grounds as a filler material, and water as a binding agent. The obtained composite materials were evaluated through thermal analysis, SEM, EDX, ATR-FTIR, and rheological behavior analysis. The composite materials created from paper pulp and coffee grounds proved to be effective for use in the production of seedling pots. The seedling pots created in this study are produced at a low cost, are environmentally friendly, exhibit thermal stability, have good stability over time, and have good resistance to deformation. This study investigates the fabrication and characterization of flexible PN diode devices using phosphorus- and boron-doped carbon nanotube (CNT) paper, also known as Buckypaper (BP). The BP substrate is fabricated from multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and doped with phosphorus and boron to form N-type and P-type semiconductors, respectively. Various experimental techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, Hall effect measurements, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), are employed to analyze the properties of the doped BP. The results reveal that the current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics preliminarily exhibit the basic electrical properties of a diode after doping with P-type and N-type carriers. Subsequently, optimized vertical stacking combined with parallel electrode configurations for the BP diode devices demonstrates that vertical series stacking gradually enhances the thermoelectric voltage, while horizontal parallel connections approximately scale up the thermoelectric and photovoltaic voltages proportionally. The findings underscore the critical role of creating heterogeneously doped CNT-paper PN junction electric fields in improving the performance of carbon-based semiconductor devices. Furthermore, we demonstrate that these directionally oriented energy devices, when stacked, can form modular systems with enhanced efficiency. Purpose: Excessive paper dust during paper production may harm the workers' respiratory health. We wanted to assess the inhalable paper dust levels and its determinants among paper industry workers. Methods: A study was conducted in Ethiopia to assess the level of personal inhalable paper dust exposure among four paper mills. A total of 150 samples were collected using the IOM sampler attached to Side Kick Casella pumps at a flow rate of 2 L/min. The samples were analyzed in Nemko Norlab, Norway. Linear mixed-effect models were applied to identify determinants of inhalable paper dust. Results: The geometric mean of personal inhalable paper dust was 3.3 mg/m3 with 80% of the measurements exceeding the Swedish occupational exposure limit (OEL) of 2 mg/m3. The linear mixed-effects model showed that the level of dust was 28% higher when using high-speed than when using low-speed rewinding machines, while paper mills with an average of more than four machines per job group had 22% higher exposure than paper mills with a lower number of machines. Furthermore, working in packing and preparation was associated with higher dust exposure than in other areas. Conclusions: The dust exposure levels were above the Swedish OEL for 80% of the samples. This indicates that preventive measures should be established in the industry. The exposure model identified high-speed rewinding machines, a high number of machines, and work in preparation and packing as associated with high levels of paper dust exposure. Literature reviews are an essential feature of academic research because, fundamentally, the advancement of knowledge must be built on prior existing work, and to push the frontiers of knowledge, one must be clear as to where these frontiers presently are. By systematically analyzing, synthesizing, and summarizing bodies of related literature, hypotheses can be tested and/or new theories and insights developed. However, despite the recent increase in systematic review research in business and management, and particularly marketing literature, arguably, many reviews continue to be poorly undertaken and reported due to a lack of a rigorous modus operandi for their journal editors, reviewers, and readers. The purpose of this paper is twofold, first to offer marketing researchers and practitioners a modus operandi to better demonstrate the optimization of rigor when undertaking quantitative systematic review research, and second to represent a call-to-action for marketing scholarship to engage further with optimizing rigorous systematic review research in the future. Paper-based materials made from cellulose have been sought after as a sustainable and inexpensive packaging option. However, the porous structure and high hydrophilicity of paper-based materials result in inadequate water and oil repellency, as well as a limited water vapor barrier. In this work, lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) were prepared using a high-speed homogenizer, and subsequently coated on base paper along with cationic starch to enhance its multi-barrier performance to facilitate the packaging application. The LNPs obtained through such a facile process formed stable colloidal dispersion in water, which exhibited excellent interfacial compatibility with cationic starch. During the coating process, a highly adhesive emulsion consisting of cationic starch and LNPs were coated on the surface of base paper, imparting good hydrophobic properties to the paper. The resulting paper material exhibited good water resistance (Cobb value of 37.5 g m 2), high oil resistance (Kit rating 9) and tensile strength (48.93 MPa). The reduction in water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) exceeds sixfold. Although paper packages are biodegradable, their applications in food packaging are limited due to high affinity for absorbing moisture and the high permeability of gases and liquids with surroundings. Therefore, exploring the use biodegradable coatings such as nanocellulose to improve barrier is a relevant strategy. This study assessed the efficacy of unbleached nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) as an additive to paper and coatings. Using NFC derived from unbleached eucalyptus pulp, a 5% mass addition to the paper pulp and a 2 mm wet nanocellulose coating to kraft paper handsheets made from pine pulp were investigated. In addition, nanocellulose films of similar thicknesses were appraised. The physical, morphological, mechanical, and thermal characteristics of the resulting papers were assessed. Incorporating NFC notably enhanced the morphology area of the paper by padding its pores, thus increasing its density by up to 48% and improving its water barrier properties by up to 50%. The mechanical strength showed significant enhancements, particularly in bursting and tensile strength with increases of up to 134% and 50%, respectively. Anyhow, the films exhibited lower bursting indices and no improvement in the tearing index. This study contributes to the diversity literature by probing whether diversity papers are cited as frequently as nondiversity papers in management and industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology journals. Based on the stigma‐by‐association theory, I argue that as a result of their association with minority groups, diversity papers may be devalued and thus "othered" by scholars. Using a citation analysis of 46,930 papers published in 29 peer‐reviewed management and I/O psychology journals, I present empirical evidence in Study 1 that diversity papers were cited significantly less frequently than nondiversity papers. The authors' gender and institutional prestige, journal tier and domain, and year of publication were not moderators. In Study 2, I used a scenario experiment to demonstrate the stigma‐by‐association effect. The authors' gender demonstrated a significant moderating effect in this experiment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The emergence of the disruption score provides a new perspective that differs from traditional metrics of citations and novelty in research evaluation. Motivated by current studies on the differences among these metrics, we examine the relationship between disruption scores and citation counts. Intuitively, one would expect disruptive scientific work to be rewarded by high volumes of citations and, symmetrically, impactful work to also be disruptive. A number of recent studies have instead shown that such intuition is often at odds with reality. In this paper, we break down the relationship between impact and disruption with a detailed correlation analysis in two large data sets of publications in Computer Science and Physics. We find that highly disruptive papers tend to receive a higher number of citations than average. Contrastingly, the opposite is not true, as we do not find highly cited papers to be particularly disruptive. Notably, these results qualitatively hold even within individual scientific careers, as we find that—on average—an author's most disruptive work tends to be well cited, whereas their most cited work does not tend to be disruptive. We discuss the implications of our findings in the context of academic evaluation systems, and show how they can contribute to reconcile seemingly contradictory results in the literature.
