Donor spins in ZnO NWs have promise for quantum information (QI) applications due to high crystalline quality, narrow excitonic luminescence linewidths, and a direct bandgap of this material. It is important to understand the processes that can lead to inhomogeneous broadening of the excitonic transitions for realization of QI devices. We investigate the effect of Ga dopant concentration on the low temperature photoluminescence (PL) of Ga-doped ZnO nanowires. Spectrometer-resolution-limited donor-bound exciton (D 0 X) PL lines are observed at low concentrations with linewidths of around 0.1 meV. A clear increase in the Ga D 0 X line is observed as trace amounts of Ga are added. Above a certain concentration threshold, we observe a strong increase in the lateral growth coupled with a significant tail on the low energy side of the D 0 X emission, which scales linearly with dopant precursor concentration. We have analyzed this behavior using different models, including a model based on a bound exciton wavefunction overlap with neigbhouring donors and a Stark effect model due to random charged impurities. We rule out both of these models based on PL excitation spectroscopy measurements and show that a simple exponential model of the Urbach form gives the best fit and points to disorder in the more heavily doped shells. Understanding how stars form, evolve, and impact molecular clouds is key to understanding why star formation is such an inefficient process globally. In this paper, we use the infrared bright fraction, |$f_\text{IRB}$| (the fraction of a given molecular cloud that appears bright against the 8 |$\mu$| m Milky Way background) as a proxy for time evolution to test how cloud properties change as star formation evolves. We apply this metric to 12 000 high-mass star-forming molecular clouds we identify using the Herschel –Hi-GAL survey between |$|\ell |{\lt }70^{\circ }$| on the Milky Way plane. We find clouds are not static while forming stars. Instead, molecular clouds continuously gain mass while star formation progresses. By performing principal component analysis on the cloud properties, we find that they evolve down two paths distinguished by their mass gain. Most clouds (80 per cent) gain four times more mass as a function of |$f_\text{IRB}$|⁠. The remaining 20 per cent experience an extreme period of growth, growing in mass by a factor of 150 on average and during this period, they initially gain mass fast enough to outpace their star formation. For all clouds, it is only after half their area becomes star forming that mass-loss occurs. We expect stellar feedback and potentially galactic shear is responsible. By analysing cloud positions, we suggest that the rate of mass growth may be linked to the larger galactic environment. Three studies (N = 1,349) examined why allyship from men (vs. women) is often more impactful in decreasing women's concerns of negative treatment within male-dominated spaces in the United States. Women anticipated more respect from their peers after a man (vs. woman), identified as a gender equality ally. Increased respect mediated women's lower anticipation of negative workplace treatment and higher anticipation of support (Studies 1–3). This effect was driven by the belief that an allied man holds more influence within an organization than an allied woman (Study 2). Study 2 additionally contrasted allyship to workplace friendship to determine the unique impact of gender-equality allyship compared to other forms of support from peers. In Study 3, ally influence was manipulated to assess whether an ally's ability to communicate respect to women is contingent upon perceived influence. These results indicate that the positive impact of allyship from men is due in part to the greater perceived influence of allied men and their ability to communicate respect to women. Background/Objectives: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a non-invasive imaging technique with similar accuracy to CT and MRI for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). CEUS offers several advantages in patient populations who have contraindications for CT or MRI. There are limited prospective studies in the United States evaluating the diagnostic equivalence of CEUS following transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) with same-day CT/MRI. This prospective pilot study compared CEUS and CT/MRI in patients with HCC following TACE in a United States population using Lumason® contrast agent and the Liver Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS). Methods: Following institutional review board protocols, adult patients with a diagnosis of HCC were included. Follow-up CT/MRI was directed by referring clinicians, and CEUS was performed on the same day. CEUS was used to evaluate for treated lesion(s), new lesion(s), and portal vein thrombus before and after Lumason®. Any subsequent follow-up imaging was reviewed. Results: In 26 enrolled patients, 33 target lesions were identified (size range 0.9–16.8 cm), and 26 were LI-RADS-5 or -M. CEUS identified 19 cases of residual tumor, 12 with no viable disease; CT/MRI identified 17 cases of residual tumor, 16 with no viable disease (p = 0.617). Both CEUS and CT/MRI identified five portal vein thrombi. Two lesions were missed or miscategorized on CEUS, while six were missed or miscategorized on CT/MRI (p = 0.289). Six new lesions were identified on both CEUS and CT/MRI. Of these new lesions, four were identified only by CT/MRI and three only by CEUS. Conclusions: CEUS is comparable to CT/MRI performed at identical follow-up intervals in evaluating for residual versus treated HCC following first-time TACE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities are redefining roles traditionally assigned to humans or tools in numerous tasks, and thereby creating tensions in professions ranging from education and engineering, to design and film. As a result, we suggest now is the time for greater vitality in a professional dialogue and research agenda on how AI, especially Generative AI, affects human creative agency. While AI poses challenges to human creative agency, it also offers growth potential, demanding a balanced approach to its opportunities and risks. To bolster a professional dialogue, we propose a framework detailing three key attributes of AI’s impact on creative agency: whether AI is perceived as a competitor or a complement to human skills; AI’s perceived effectiveness and performance; and, whether the AI systems perform a high-stakes or a low-stakes function. We then propose AI literacy as a moderating influence on these attributes. Our aims for this framework are to (i) serve as a starting point for developing research-based strategies and tools that will allow AI to augment human creative agency, rather than diminish it, and (ii) provide a useful foundation for conversations between creativity researchers and AI developers. • Refinement of ESLP methodology is essential to optimize the clinical and research applications of this technology: Mild permissive alkalosis porcine NPV-ESLP demonstrated more reliable preservation with reduced inflammation compared to a physiologic pH strategy. • Here we demonstrate that manipulation of key variables in ex-situ organ perfusion to intentionally deviate from physiologic targets may in select instances improve organ function and preservation beyond a steadfast replication of normal physiology, which is the standard approach in ESLP. • The increased stability of ESLP lung function with the strategic application of mild permissive alkalosis during preservation has allowed our lab to achieve reliable, continuous ESLP of 36-hours. This is essential for the prolong dwell-time required for advanced therapeutics to improve marginal quality donor lungs and increase the donor pool of useable organs for transplant. Ex-Situ Lung Perfusion (ESLP) employs a membrane deoxygenator and mixed (N 2 /O 2 /CO 2) or pure sweep gas (CO 2) to target venous blood gas composition with physiologic pCO 2 and pH. Clinically, mild permissive alkalosis counteracts elevated pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) to improve perfusion. Increased PVR and pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) during ESLP mirrors rising pro-inflammatory cytokines. Increased hydrostatic pressure worsens edema and lung function. We report improved ESLP outcomes using mild permissive alkalosis. Twelve juvenile pig lungs underwent 12-hour Negative Pressure Ventilation (NPV)-ESLP with a physiologic pH (Control: pH 7.35-7.45, n=6) or mild permissive alkalosis (pH+: pH 7.45-7.55, n=6) by varying sweep CO 2 delivery. Three left lungs per group were transplanted and assessed over 4-hours. Five Control lungs failed on ESLP due to high PAPs, low compliance, and poor oxygenation. Repeat Controls (n=6) were performed to attain 12-hours of ESLP. There were no failures in the pH+ group. Results are pH+ vs Control. Oxygenation (PaO 2 /FiO 2 454.2 vs 438.2; P =.37) and dynamic compliance (21.38 vs 22.22 mL/cmH 2 O; P =.41) were stable over 12-hour NPV-ESLP. Mean evaluation pH/pCO 2 /HCO 3 - was 7.50/15.6/14.5 vs 7.41/38.7/24.7. Control lungs required repeat THAM and milrinone boluses on ESLP to prevent acidosis and treat elevated PVR; this was not necessary in the pH+ group. Weight-gain/hour was similar (1.23% vs 1.38%; P =.37). Mean left lung PF ratios 4-hours post-transplantation were 301 mmHg vs 196 mmHg (P =.11). Control TNF-⍺ and IL-6 perfusate concentrations were significantly greater. Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe trends in inpatient and outpatient upper extremity fracture surgery between 2008 and 2021, along with identifying patient factors (age, sex, race, socioeconomic status) associated with outpatient surgery. Methods: Retrospectively, 12,593 adult patients who underwent upper extremity fracture repair from 2008 to 2021 at one of five urban hospitals in the Northeastern USA were identified. Using Distressed Communities Index (DCI), patients were divided into five quintiles based on their level of socioeconomic distress. Multivariable logistic regression was performed on patients from 2008 to 2019 to identify independent factors associated with outpatient management. Results: From 2008 to 2019, outpatient procedures saw an average increase of 31%. The largest increases in the outpatient management were seen in humerus (132%) and forearm fractures (127%). Carpal and hand surgeries had the lowest percent increase of 8.1%. Clavicle and wrist fractures were independently associated with outpatient management. Older age, male sex, higher Elixhauser comorbidity index, DCI scores in the 4th or 5th quintile, and fractures of the scapula, humerus, elbow, and forearm were associated with inpatient management. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a decrease in outpatient procedures. Conclusion: There is a shift toward outpatient surgical management of upper extremity fractures from 2008 to 2021. Application of our findings can serve as an institutional guide to allocate patients to appropriate surgical settings. General practitioners (GPs) face complex decisions when choosing between prescribing medication or referring patients to social prescriptions. Increasing awareness of overprescribing and the risks of polypharmacy are a key driver of patient‐centred preventative approaches to healthcare. One such approach, increasingly common in the United Kingdom, is social prescribing (SP). GPs have a central role in prescribing medication or referring to a social prescription. Following a thematic analysis of data from interviews with 12 GPs, this study used the concept of mindlines to frame a consideration of their reasoning about the appropriateness of social prescriptions as adjuncts to or alternatives for medical prescriptions. We identified seven considerations that shaped their decision‐making process. These factors spanned the patient's socioeconomic circumstances, the severity of their symptoms and their expectations. Additionally, GPs factored in their time constraints, the extent to which medical options had been exhausted, and finally issues related to the SP system itself—specifically, the integration of SP workflows in GP practices and resource constraints. SP is, in theory at least, a part of the healthcare system that offers the possibility of improved health both for people and the environment. Our consideration of the role of the GP in this suggests that the challenges for design and evaluation of SP interventions that result in a reduction in medical prescriptions are considerable. Objective: Phenotypic heterogeneity presents challenges in providing clinical care to patients with pathogenic SCN8A variants, which underly a wide disease spectrum ranging from neurodevelopmental delays without seizures to a continuum of mild to severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs). An important unanswered question is whether there are clinically important subgroups within this wide spectrum. Using both supervised and unsupervised machine learning (ML) approaches, we previously found statistical support for two and three subgroups associated with loss‐ and gain‐ of‐ function vari‐ants, respectively. Here, we test the hypothesis that the unsupervised subgroups (U1–U3) are distinguished by differential contributions of developmental and epileptic components. Methods: We predicted that patients in the U1 and U2 subgroups would differ in timing of developmental delay and seizure onset, with earlier and concurrent onset of both features for the U3 subgroup. Standard statistical procedures were used to test these predictions, as well as to investigate clinically relevant associations among all five subgroups. Results: Two‐population proportion and Kruskal–Wallis tests supported the hypothesis of a reversed order of developmental delay and seizure onset for patients in U1 and U2, and nearly synchronous developmental delay/seizure onset for the U3 (termed DEE) subgroup. Association testing identified subgroup variation in treatment response, frequency of initial seizure type, and comorbidities, as well as different median ages of developmental delay onset for all five subgroups. Significance: Unsupervised ML approaches discern differential developmental and epileptic components among patients with SCN8A‐related epilepsy. Patients in U1 (termed developmental encephalopathy) typically gain seizure control yet rarely experience improvements in development, whereas those in U2 (termed epileptic encephalopathy) have fewer if any developmental impairments despite difficulty in achieving seizure control. This understanding improves prognosis and clinical management and provides a framework to discover mechanisms underlying variability in clinical outcome of patients with SCN8A‐related disorders. Societal Impact Statement: Trees in urban environments provide us with shade, heat mitigation, flood abatement, noise and pollution reduction, pollination, beauty, and much more. However, many of these benefits are strongly connected to tree size and vitality, with larger, healthier trees providing ecosystem services more effectively, which means that selecting the right tree for site and function is crucial in order to gain all benefits from our urban trees. Summary: Trees play a major role in the Earth's biogeochemical processes, influencing soil production, hydrological, nutrient and carbon cycles, and the global climate. They store about 50% of the world's terrestrial carbon stocks, and provide habitats for a wide range of other species, supporting at least half of the Earth's known terrestrial plants and animals. Trees are not only found in forests and other natural ecosystems, but also in urban environments. Most of the human population is concentrated in cities, towns and villages, so urban trees are critical to meet on‐going and future social, economic and environmental challenges. However, many urban tree populations are strongly challenged by a changing climate, outbreaks of pests and pathogens and an urban development with increasingly dense cities and a high proportion of impermeable surface materials. The importance of intraspecific variation needs to be better acknowledged in this context, since poor matching of trees and the local climate and growing conditions can lead to extensive loss of valuable trees. By using the right genetic plant material for the challenging urban environments, a more resilient tree population with a greater diversity and higher capacity for delivering ecosystem services can be gained. Here, we wish to discuss the need to consider intraspecific variation when planning resilient tree populations for urban environments and how seed banks and botanical garden play important roles in efforts to improve the matching of genetic plant material for future environmental challenges. The amyloid hypothesis posits that the amyloid-β aggregates in the brain initiate a cascade of events that eventually lead to neuron loss and Alzheimer's disease. Recent clinical trials of passive immunotherapy with anti-amyloid-β antibodies support this hypothesis, because clearing plaques led to better cognitive outcomes. Orally available small molecule BACE1 inhibitors are another approach to slowing the buildup of plaques and thereby cognitive worsening by preventing the cleavage of amyloid-β protein precursor (AβPP) into amyloid-β peptide, the major component of plaques. This approach is particularly attractive because of their ease of use, low cost, and advanced clinical stage. However, although effective in preventing amyloid-β production in late-stage clinical trials, BACE inhibitors have been associated with early, non-progressive, likely reversible, cognitive decline. The clinical trials tested high levels of BACE inhibition, greater than 50%, whereas genetics suggest that even a 30% inhibition may be sufficient to protect from Alzheimer's disease. Aside from AβPP, BACE1 cleaves many other substrates in the brain that may be contributing to the cognitive worsening. It is important to know what the cause of cognitive worsening is, and if a lower level of inhibition would sufficiently slow the progress of pathology while preventing these unwanted side effects. Should these side effects be mitigated, BACE inhibitors could rapidly move forward in clinical trials either as a primary prevention strategy in individuals that are at risk or biomarker positive, or as a maintenance therapy following amyloid clearance with an anti-amyloid antibody. This brief review article will describe treatment approaches for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) based on findings from basic research. The focus of this review will be fear conditioning and extinction models, which provide a translational model of PTSD that can help translate basic research in nonhuman animals through well-controlled trials confirming the efficacy of treatment approaches in humans with PTSD such as prolonged exposure therapy. Specific cognitive aspects of fear extinction processes, including consolidation and reconsolidation, are reviewed along with behavioral and pharmacological treatment strategies based on basic research in these areas including attempts to prevent the development of PTSD as well as the treatment of chronic PTSD. Pharmacological, behavioral, and device-based augmentation strategies of PTSD treatment based in basic science findings are reviewed, including those that disrupt noradrenergic receptor processes, medications that act on NMDA receptors, physical exercise, cannabinoids, estradiol, dexamethasone, yohimbine, losartan, dopamine, and MDMA, along with the evidence for their efficacy in human clinical samples. While fear extinction provides an exciting translational opportunity to improve PTSD based on basic science findings, we review limitations and challenges of the extant literature as well as future directions. There is a synergistic relationship between epilepsy and intellectual disability (ID), and the approach to managing people with these conditions needs to be holistic. Epilepsy is the main co-morbidity associated with ID, and clinical presentation tends to be complex, associated with higher rates of treatment resistance, multi-morbidity and premature mortality. Despite this relationship, there is limited level 1 evidence to inform treatment choice for this vulnerable population. This review updates the current evidence base for anti-seizure medication (ASM) prescribing for people with ID. Recommendations are made on the basis of evidence and expert clinical opinion and summarised into a Traffic Light System for accessibility. This review builds on work developed through UK's Royal College of Psychiatrists, Faculty of Intellectual Disability Psychiatry and includes newer pragmatic data from the Cornwall UK Ep-ID Research Register, a national research register for England and Wales that has been in existence for the last 10 years. The Register acts as a source for an in-depth exploration of the evidence base for prescribing 'newer' (third generation, specifically post-2004) ASMs. Its findings are discussed and compared. A practical approach to prescribing and choosing ASMs is recommended on the based evidence. This approach considers the drug profile, including adverse effects and clinical characteristics. The review also details newer specialist ASMs restricted to certain epilepsy syndromes, and potential future ASMs that may be available soon. The concept of biological sex guides research, clinical practice, science funding policy, and contemporary political discourse. Despite some substantive differences, all existing candidate philosophical accounts of sex assume its legitimacy as a biological concept. Here, we challenge this view. We argue against realism about biological sex, and that eliminating biological sex from large swaths of biological theory and practice may be preferable compared to conventionalist or fictionalist anti-realisms. There are serious social and epistemic costs to using “biological sex” in place of more specific alternatives. Because of this, biologists and philosophers of science should consider eliminativism about the concept of biological sex. Biological sex eliminativism is worth taking seriously, and it can play important roles in philosophical debate and biological practice, even for those who remain skeptical. The methodological consequences of biological sex eliminativism are compatible with best practices for inquiry in the biological and biomedical sciences, with inclusive approaches to the study of sex and gender, and with feminist philosophical and methodological recommendations. Taking eliminativism seriously reveals important disagreement about the work that a concept of biological sex should do, and imposes a contrastive burden on would-be rivals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Modelling complex line emission in the interstellar medium (ISM) is a degenerate high-dimensional problem. Here, we present McFine , a tool for automated multicomponent fitting of emission lines with complex hyperfine structure, in a fully automated way. We use Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) to efficiently explore the complex parameter space, allowing for characterizing model denegeracies. This tool allows for both local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) and radiative-transfer (RT) models. McFine can fit individual spectra and data cubes, and for cubes encourage spatial coherence between neighbouring pixels. It is also built to fit the minimum number of distinct components, to avoid overfitting. We have carried out tests on synthetic spectra, where in around 90 per cent of cases it fits the correct number of components, otherwise slightly fewer components. Typically, |$T_{\rm ex}$| is overestimated and |$\tau$| underestimated, but accurate within the estimated uncertainties. The velocity and line widths are recovered with extremely high accuracy, however. We verify McFine by applying to a large Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) N |$_2$| H |$^+$| mosaic of an high-mass star forming region, G316.75−00.00. We find a similar quality of fit to our synthetic tests, aside from in the active regions forming O-stars, where the assumptions of Gaussian line profiles or LTE may break down. To show the general applicability of this code, we fit CO(J = 2-1) observations of NGC 3627, a nearby star-forming galaxy, again obtaining excellent fit quality. In the contemporary Catholic Church's engagement with synodality listening has become the dominant emphasis; methods for "spiritual conversation" are designed to give priority to listening--to one another and, fundamentally, the Holy Spirit. This paper offers some critiques of this emphasis and seeks to explore conversation as the synodal fundamental. Conversation overly controlled by listening is, I argue, susceptible to subtle and unhelpful power dynamics. "Ordinary conversation"--interruptive, informal, spontaneous, and not always polite--has its own theological significance and must also find its place in a truly synodal church. Drawing on extensive experience of theological action research and insights from systems theory, the paper sets out why such "ordinary conversation," distinct from what might be seen as "formal listening," is ecclesiologically essential for a full realisation of church. By way of conclusion, key themes are identified whose development is needed for the further enrichment of synodal processes through attention to ordinary conversation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Tackling poor mental health in university students has been identified as a priority in higher education. However, there are few evidence-based prevention initiatives designed for students. Repetitive Negative Thought (RNT, e.g. worry, rumination) is elevated in university students and is a well-established vulnerability factor for anxiety and depression. Furthermore, there are now evidence-based cognitive-behavioural interventions to tackle RNT. A mobile self-help cognitive-behavioural app targeting RNT, adapted for students may therefore be an effective, scalable, and acceptable way to improve prevention in students. Methods: An online single blind, two-arm parallel-group Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) to examine the incidence of major depression and symptoms of anxiety and depression across 12 months in university students aged over 16 who screen into the study with self-reported high levels of worry and/or rumination and no current diagnosis of major depression. Eligible participants will be randomised to the active intervention arm (usual practice plus using a self-guided mobile app targeting RNT) or to the control arm (usual practice). In total, 648 participants aged over 16, with no current major depression, bipolar disorder or psychosis will be recruited from UK universities. Assessments will take place at baseline (pre-randomisation), 3 months and 12 months post- randomisation. Primary endpoint and outcome is incidence of major depression as determined by self-reported diagnostic criteria at 12-month follow-up. Depressive symptoms, anxiety, well-being, health-related quality of life, functioning and academic outcomes are secondary outcomes. Compliance, adverse events, and potentially mediating variables will be carefully monitored. Discussion: The trial aims to provide a better understanding of the causal role of tackling RNT (worry, rumination) using a self-help mobile app with respect to preventing depression in university students. This knowledge will be used to develop and disseminate innovative evidence-based, feasible, and effective mobile-health public health strategies for preventing common mental health problems. Biological types, including holotypes and reference genomes, are particular biological entities that represent an entire class of biological entities. This paper presents a feminist analysis of biological typing by asking whether we have reason to criticize the practices of selecting holotypes and reference genomes for being androcentric. I offer three distinct reasons why androcentrism can be objectionable: androcentric practices may inadequately account for traits or experiences of women/females, reinforce male/female dichotomies, or overgeneralize from particulars. I then evaluate whether the practices of selecting holotypes and genomes are objectionably androcentric in these three ways. These typing practices, especially as applied to the case of humans, are objectionably androcentric in some ways but not others. Whether a typing practice problematically ignores the traits or experiences of women depends on whether the typing practice involves non-accidentally taking the traits or experiences of male humans as typical, which, I argue, is true both in the case of holotypes and genomes. Neither holotypes nor genomes reinforce male/female dichotomies, although some features of these practices may appear to do so. Finally, both holotypes and genomes are criticizable for overgeneralizing from particulars, although this criticism does not depend on these practices being androcentric. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Australia's migration history has produced one of the most ethnically diverse nations in the world, but this has presented challenges for educational equity. The introduction of multiculturalism in the 1970s coincided with an increasing focus on structural inequities in education. In this essay, we examine the context of changing educational policies and programs over the last half century, arguing that there has not been a steady process of reform involving measures redressing various inequalities but a period of policy turbulence. We consider the impact of the competing logics of multiculturalism-incorporation, recognition, civility-upon educational policy and practice to argue that, together with the consequences of neoliberal reforms, the equitable delivery of multiculturalism in schools has proved challenging. We conclude that multicultural education must refocus on the critical capacities that teachers and students alike need to understand the cultural complexities of a globalized world. Gratitude is a pivotal concept in the psychology of religion because it is one of the most frequently experienced emotions toward God. The authors developed a trait measure of Gratitude to God (GTG-T) and investigated the association between Gratitude to God and psychological and spiritual well-being in four studies. Study 1 provided evidence for the validity of the GTG-T as Gratitude to God was associated with overall well-being and predicted increases in spiritual well-being over time. Study 2 used a prospective design to show that Gratitude to God predicted increases in general gratitude. In a third study, results showed that Gratitude to God predicted increased grateful emotion and increased confidence in the existence of God over time. In Studies 2 and 3, mediation analyses supported the model that Gratitude to God enhances well-being by promoting generalized gratitude. Study 4 provided further valid evidence for the GTG-T and also showed that gratitude to God is much more strongly related to one's heartfelt conception of God as loving than to their doctrinal conception of a loving God. Global shortages of critical equipment and supplies induced by COVID-19 forced countries to rapidly build and ramp up their indigenous testing and production capacities. However, the many ways in which institutional and organizational change occurred has not been sufficiently captured. Building domestic capacity requires the leveraging and repurposing of existing domestic scientific and technological capabilities, coupled with intensified global outreach to new and existing partners and suppliers. Using the framework of institutional variety, this paper looks at two facets of the UK's COVID emergency industrial response: (1) building its laboratory testing capabilities and (2) for increasing production of personal protective equipment; assessing the institutional capacities and relations that were leveraged in this regard. It uses these findings together with observations of 'innovation processes under emergency conditions' and the potential uses of a 'critical equipment policy' to sharpen some of the recommendations made in the UK's post-COVID Research and Development Roadmap. This article reads the Dardenne brothers' film Two Days, One Night (Deux Jours, Une Nuit) (2014) as a case study in neoliberal practices of governance and human capital appreciation. Counter to accounts of neoliberalism focused on destruction and loss, this paper uses the film to attend to the operation of new social relations, ways of living, and subjectivities associated with neoliberalism. This paper focuses on how the film uses a management strategy of partnered, disseminated governance to illuminate the competitive pressures and responsibilized freedom bound up with dominant forms of neoliberal subjectivity today. Changes to the Welsh curriculum are becoming apparent. The Williams Report culminated in recommendations for schools and initial teacher education (ITE) on the inclusion and teaching of Black Asian and Minority Ethnic histories in Wales. The subsequent Welsh Government ITE action plan was designed to ensure the pro‐active recruitment of trainee teachers from Black and racially minoritised backgrounds in Wales. As a result of this legislation, a team of ITE lecturers in a school of education in a Welsh university formed a research triad and larger research collective, the idea being that we needed to decolonise our own pedagogy and curriculum delivery and re‐imagine ITE within an anti‐racist paradigm. It was key to reflect on our ITE provision, ensuring that our curriculum delivery reflected the ambition of the new Curriculum for Wales,* which encourages practitioners to think differently on what they teach, how they teach and what they want young people to learn. Using a patchwork methodology—which included 'deep thinking and deep listening'—we examined our current ITE delivery and work that has been done thus far and looked at the gains and areas for development. It became clear that staff within our 'ITE research collective' were becoming more knowledgeable and confident in working within a racial dynamic, and consequently felt more able to impart knowledge when engaging with other ITE colleagues and students. Measuring the climates of the deep past requires the use of paleoclimate proxies. I describe two proxy data and measurement practices, regarding proxy calibration and proxy data infrastructure. I document how at least some data and measurement practices in paleoclimatology are disunified: these practices do not involve intercalibration or otherwise statistical combination of multiple proxy records, and metadata necessary for proxy data to be reused or intercompared is often not provided. I argue that, perhaps counterintuitively, this lack of standardization and unification of proxy data and measurements has several benefits, especially related to the management of error and uncertainty. With the fetishisation of computer technologies in education, the older sense of technology as pertaining to skill, what the Greeks termed 'technē', seems to have slipped from view. Technology is generally equated with the object itself rather than the facility to use it. A skill such as writing, for example, is rarely considered a technology and yet it is a vital tool for communication that aids understanding. Writing is also a technology that is framed in particular ways in relation to boys and young men. With constant concerns over 'boys' literacy', it is generally viewed as a 'feminine' activity. Drawing on interviews with a group of young men – all proficient writers reflecting on their schooling – this article examines their perspectives on writing and broader engagement with different technologies. Background: Sarcomas are diverse neoplasms with highly variable histological appearances in which diagnosis is often challenging and management options for metastatic/unresectable disease limited. Many sarcomas have distinctive molecular alterations, but the range of alterations is large, variable in type and rapidly increasing, meaning that testing by limited panels is unable to capture the broad spectrum of clinically pertinent genomic drivers required. Paired whole genome sequencing (WGS) in contrast allows comprehensive assessment of small variants, copy number and structural variants along with mutational signature analysis and germline testing. Methods: Introduction of WGS as a diagnostic standard for all eligible patients with known or suspected soft tissue sarcoma over a 2-year period at a soft tissue sarcoma treatment centre. Results: WGS resulted in a refinement in the diagnosis in 37% of cases, identification of a target for personalised therapy in 33% of cases, and a germline alteration in 4% of cases. Introduction: When used appropriately, focused limited-scope ultrasound exams could potentially provide paramedics with accurate and actionable diagnostic information to guide prehospital decisionmaking. In this study we aimed to investigate the impact of a 13-hour prehospital ultrasound training course on the simulated clinical decision-making of paramedics as well as their ultrasound skills, knowledge, and self-confidence. Methods: We evaluated the ultrasound competence of 31 participants using post-course written and practical assessments. Written clinical decision scenarios were administered pre- and post-training. Post-training scenarios included an uninterpreted ultrasound clip to aid decision-making. Scenarios included extended focused assessment with sonography in trauma, pulmonary exam, and focused echocardiography combined with carotid pulse check exams. Correct answers to scenarios were defined as those selected by a veteran emergency physician. Participants also indicated their confidence in each of their decisions using a Likert scale. Results: Training yielded a statistically significant increase in both mean scenario score (35.5% absolute increase) and mean participant self-confidence (15.8% relative increase), across all exam/ decision types assessed (P ≤ 0.001). The focused pulmonary exam yielded the largest increase in both mean score improvement (59.7% absolute increase) and paramedic confidence in their decisions (28.6% increase). Conclusion: Trained paramedics can perform focused ultrasound exams and accurately interpret and apply actionable exam findings in the context of written scenarios. Analysis through our model characterized the theoretical clinical yield of each prehospital ultrasound exam and demonstrated how each exam may provide improved decision accuracy in several specific simulated clinical contexts. Cellular therapy development and manufacturing has focused on providing novel therapeutic cell-based products for various diseases. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provided guidance on critical quality attributes (CQAs) that shall be considered when testing and releasing cellular therapeutic products. Cell count and viability measurements are two of the CQAs that are determined during development, manufacturing, testing, and product release. The ISO Cell Counting Standard Part 1 and 2 addressed the needs for improving the quality of cell counting results. However, there is currently no guidance on the qualification and selection of a fit-for-purpose cell viability detection method. In this work, we present strategies for the characterization and comparison of AO/PI and AO/DAPI staining methods using the heat-killed (HK) and low temperature/nutrient-deprived (LT/ND) cell death models to evaluate the comparability of cell viability measurements and identify potential causes of differences. We compared the AO/PI and AO/DAPI staining methods using HK and LT/ND-generated dead cells, investigated the staining time effects on cell viability measurements, and determined their viability linearity with different mixtures of live and dead cells. Furthermore, we validated AO/PI and AO/DAPI cell viability measurement with a long-term cell proliferation assay. Finally, we demonstrate a practical example of cell viability measurement comparison using AO/PI and AO/DAPI on antibiotic-selected transduced Jurkat and THP-1 cells to select a fit-for-purpose method for functional genomics screening. The proposed strategies may potentially enable scientists to properly characterize, compare, and select cell viability detection methods that are critical for cellular therapeutic product development and manufacturing. Aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) maintain translational fidelity by ensuring the formation of correct aminoacyl‐tRNA pairs. Numerous point mutations in human aaRSs have been linked to disease phenotypes. Structural studies of aaRSs from human pathogens encoding unique domains support these enzymes as potential candidates for therapeutics. Studies have shown that the identity of tRNA pools in cells changes between different cell types and under stress conditions. While traditional radioactive aminoacylation analyses can determine the effect of disease‐causing mutations on aaRS function, these assays are not amenable to drug discovery campaigns and do not take into account the variability of the intracellular tRNA pools. Here, we review modern techniques to characterize aaRS activity in vitro and in cells. The cell‐based approaches analyse the aminoacyl‐tRNA pool to observe trends in aaRS activity and fidelity. Taken together, these approaches allow high‐throughput drug screening of aaRS inhibitors and systems‐level analyses of the dynamic tRNA population under a variety of conditions and disease states. Introduction: In 2023, a group of experts proposed that a definition of major bleeding in pharmaceutically anticoagulated patients be used in all snakebite trials. This includes bleeding that results in death, is life-threatening, causes chronic sequelae, or consumes major healthcare resources, including bleeding into a major area or hemoglobin concentration decrease ≥20 g/L. We hypothesized that a decline in hemoglobin concentration ≥20 g/L is common but rarely clinically significant in our population of Arizona rattlesnake bite patients. Methods: Poison center records of rattlesnake bites in humans from 2018 through 2022 were retrospectively reviewed and assessed for major bleeding by the above criteria. Results: Four hundred and eighty-one patients met the inclusion criteria, of whom 265 (55.1%) had a hemoglobin concentration decrease ≥20 g/L. No patients died, and there was no evidence of bleeding into a critical organ. Three patients (1.1%) received blood transfusions. A decrease in hemoglobin concentration ≥20 g/L was 100% sensitive for identifying the major bleeding-associated outcomes; however, specificity was only 45.2%. Measures of healthcare utilization and chronic sequelae were somewhat higher in patients with a decrease in hemoglobin concentration ≥20 g/L. Discussion: Laboratory manifestations of hemotoxicity were common in this population, but hemorrhage was rare. While over half of patients met the major bleeding criterion of a decline in hemoglobin concentration ≥20 g/L, only 1.1% had bleeding that was potentially life-threatening as measured by receipt of a red blood cell transfusion. None died or had bleeding into a critical area. While nonspecific for major bleeding, a drop in hemoglobin concentration correlated with worse envenomation severity: these patients received more vials of antivenom, had a higher medical bill, a longer hospital stay, and were less likely to report full recovery at 90 days. Conclusions: A decrease in hemoglobin concentration ≥20 g/L should not be used as evidence of major bleeding for Arizona rattlesnake envenomation studies, but it may have a role as an indirect marker of envenomation severity. Simple Summary: Lung cancer treatment often involves surgical resection. Traditional resection involves a large thoracotomy incision to access the chest cavity. However, thoracotomy has become less common since the introduction of minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Minimally invasive surgery includes video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and involves small incisions to accomplish the same operation. MIS techniques have improved patient outcomes compared to thoracotomy. Patients recover faster in the hospital, have fewer complications and less pain, and return to baseline function faster. These techniques have now become the standard of care for lung cancer resection. Minimally invasive thoracic surgery has advanced the treatment of lung cancer since its introduction in the 1990s. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) offer the advantage of smaller incisions without compromising patient outcomes. These techniques have been shown to be safe and effective in standard pulmonary resections (lobectomy and sub-lobar resection) and in complex pulmonary resections (sleeve resection and pneumonectomy). Furthermore, several studies show these techniques enhance patient outcomes from early recovery to improved quality of life (QoL) and excellent oncologic results. The rise of RATS has yielded further operative benefits compared to thoracoscopic surgery. The wristed instruments, neutralization of tremor, dexterity, and magnification allow for more precise and delicate dissection of tissues and vessels. U.S. citizens are debating whether slavery and white supremacy are core constituents of the United States, whether white children should be troubled by learning the brutalities of slavery and life under Jim Crow laws, and whether racial reparations are due to African Americans for the centuries of economic, political, and social oppression they have endured. While many white folks prefer to ignore or demean calls for reparations, others have turned to reparative genealogy. They are inquiring deeply into their ancestors' relationships to chattel slavery and white supremacy, committed to reckoning with their own and their ancestors' racial debts. They seek to develop what sociologist W. E. Du Bois called "double consciousness." In order to protect themselves, African Americans had to try and see through the eyes of white people, as well as their own. But white folks too rarely attempt to see themselves through the eyes of Black people. During slavery, how were whites seen by Blacks? Philosopher George Yancy urges white people to engage in the work of developing double consciousness so they can see, as most people of color do, the pernicious white and class advantages that haunt us. My ancestors were enslavers in North Carolina. I turned to slave narratives from Black North Carolinians to distill what they observed about white people. Their descriptions point to individual and cultural pathologies: dehumanizing, pathological narcissism, authoritarian character, greed, cruelty, sadism, the policing of racial borders, paranoia, absence of deserved shame and moral injury. Cutaneous spindle cell neoplasms can be challenging to diagnose using routine histopathological techniques alone, and the growing repertoire of molecular studies can assist in diagnosis. We describe a cutaneous spindle cell neoplasm characterized by a COL3A1::PDGFRA rearrangement predicted to lead to constitutive activation of the PDGFRA kinase domain. The lesion shows some similarities to dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and also benign and epithelioid fibrous histiocytomas but is distinct from these entities histopathologically and molecularly. Background and purpose: Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is a leading cause of epilepsy mortality. All international guidance strongly advocates for clinicians working with people with epilepsy (PWE) to discuss SUDEP. Clinician views working with PWE in the UK and Norway on SUDEP counselling are compared. Methods: A cross‐sectional online mixed methodology survey of 17 Likert and free‐text response questions using validated themes was circulated via International League against Epilepsy/Epilepsy Specialist Nurses Association in the UK and International League against Epilepsy/Epilepsinet in Norway using a non‐discriminatory exponential snowballing technique leading to non‐probability sampling. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Mann–Whitney, Kruskal–Wallis, chi‐squared and Fisher's exact tests. Significance was accepted at p < 0.05. Thematic analysis was conducted on free‐text responses. Results: Of 309 (UK 197, Norway 112) responses, UK clinicians were more likely to have experienced an SUDEP (p < 0.001), put greater importance on SUDEP communication (p < 0.001), discuss SUDEP with all PWE particularly new patients (p < 0.001), have access and refer to bereavement support (p < 0.001) and were less likely to never discuss SUDEP (p < 0.001). Significant differences existed between both countries' neurologists and nurses in SUDEP counselling with UK clinicians generally being more supportive. UK responders were more likely to be able to identify bereavement support (p < 0.001). Thematic analysis highlighted four shared themes and two specific to Norwegians. Discussion: Despite all international guidelines stating the need/importance to discuss SUDEP with all PWE there remain hesitation, avoidance and subjectivity in clinicians having SUDEP‐related conversations, more so in Norway than the UK. Background: Higher odds of survival have been reported in European infants compared to Indigenous Māori and Pasifika infants with critical congenital heart disease in New Zealand. We therefore aimed to understand how to mitigate this disparity by investigating the parent and healthcare professional experiences' of critical congenital heart disease healthcare in New Zealand. Methods: A prospective qualitative study utilising semi-structured interviews was conducted on a cohort of purposefully sampled parents and health professionals with experience of critical congenital heart disease healthcare in New Zealand. Parents were recruited after a fetal critical congenital heart disease diagnosis and offered two interviews at least three months apart, whilst multidisciplinary fetal and cardiosurgical health professionals were interviewed once. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim before coding, categorization and qualitative analysis. Results: During 2022 and 2023, 45 people participated in 57 interviews (25 parents: 19 mothers, 6 fathers; Indigenous Māori, n = 5; Pasifika, n = 6; Asian, n = 4; European, n = 10; and 20 healthcare professionals: European n = 17). The three lessons learned from participants were: (1) Minoritized groups experience disparate healthcare quality; (2) healthcare systems are under-resourced to provide equitable support for the differential needs of grieving parents; and (3) healthcare systems could engage minoritized families more optimally in shared decision-making. Conclusions: According to the experiences of parents and healthcare professionals, persisting inequities in CCHD healthcare quality occur by ethnic group, with the New Zealand healthcare system privileging European families. The concepts from this study could be translated by healthcare leaders, policymakers, and professionals into evidence-based healthcare system improvements to enhance experiences for non-European families more broadly. ABSTRACT Mate choice, and sex differences in romantic behaviours, represented one of the first major applications of evolutionary biology to human behaviour. This paper reviews Darwinian approaches to heterosexual mate assessment based on physical characteristics, placing the literature in its historical context (1871–1979), before turning (predominantly) to psychological research on attractiveness judgements based on physical characteristics. Attractiveness is consistently inferred across multiple modalities, with biological theories explaining why we differentiate certain individuals, on average, from others. Simultaneously, it is a judgement that varies systematically in light of our own traits, environment, and experiences. Over 30 years of research has generated robust effects alongside reasons to be humble in our lack of understanding of the precise physiological mechanisms involved in mate assessment. This review concludes with three questions to focus attention in further research, and proposes that our romantic preferences still provide a critical window into the evolution of human sexuality. The supervision agreement (also referred to as a contract), while long mentioned as an important part of psychoanalytic supervision, has yet to be addressed in any substantive or concrete way in the psychoanalytic supervision literature. What exactly is a psychoanalytic supervision agreement? Why does it matter? What are its components? How do you implement such an agreement? We consider these questions subsequently, our purpose being to accentuate the written (as opposed to verbal) psychoanalytic supervision agreement as central to (a) making increasingly probable a good supervision beginning and (b) providing a facilitative framework and anchoring container within which the work of supervision can be enabled. We propose that the written supervision agreement, while conceivably valuable at any stage of supervisee development, can be of greatest value to those beginning to provide psychoanalytic treatment services and receive psychoanalytic supervision (i.e. Novice phase supervisees). OBJECTIVES There remains debate over the optimal mitral valve replacement (MVR) option for patients aged 50–70 years. The objective of this study was to retrospectively compare the long-term outcomes of mechanical and bioprosthetic MVR in this patient population. METHODS Data from patients undergoing MVR between 2004 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Secondary outcomes included perioperative and late morbidity. RESULTS Two hundred and eight-six propensity-matched patients (n  = 143 mechanical; n  = 143 bioprosthetic) aged 50–70 years were included in the final analysis. Maximum follow-up was 15.8 years. There was no significant difference in all-cause mortality between the groups at 30 days, 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, and at the longest follow-up. Patients who underwent mechanical MVR experienced significantly lower rates of postoperative atrial fibrillation (P  = 0.001). There were no significant differences in rates of sepsis, acute kidney injury, superficial and deep sternal wound infection, mediastinal bleeding, and permanent pacemaker implantation. At the longest follow-up, there were no differences in myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure or overall rehospitalization. At the same time point, there was an increased rate of MVR in patients receiving a bioprosthetic valve (P  = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS Survival following mechanical and bioprosthetic MVR in patients 50–70 years of age is similar to up to 15 years of follow-up. Bioprosthetic MVR is associated with an increased risk of repeat MVR. Mechanical MVR is not associated with an increased risk of stroke. Valve selection in this patient population requires diligent consideration of structural valve deterioration and subsequent reoperation risk as well as bleeding and thromboembolic risk. There is a significant variability in the prevalence of psychotropic medication use among young autistic persons worldwide and this is under-studied in Australia. Apart from risperidone, approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration to manage challenging behaviour, the appropriateness of other psychotropic medications prescribed to young autistic persons warrants scrutiny. This retrospective study aims to gain initial insight into the magnitude, types and indications of psychotropic medication use in autistic children and adolescents in Western Australia. We analysed de-identified data from 239 autistic children and adolescents (⩽21 years) who participated in the Western Australian Autism Biological Registry between 2011 and 2015 and who completed a questionnaire regarding medication use. One-quarter (n = 66, 28%) of young autistic people reported using a total of 137 medications. Most (n = 46, 70%) of those medicated were under 12 years of age; half (n = 33) were 6–12 years and a fifth (n = 13) were under 6 years. The most used medications were stimulants (n = 35, 53.0%), followed by antidepressants (n = 24, 36.4%), antiepileptics (n = 21, 31.8%), sedatives (n = 15, 22.7%) and antipsychotics (n = 14, 21.2%). These medications were mainly to manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, challenging behaviours, seizures, insomnia, undefined anxiety, depression and mood instability. While most autistic young people in the Western Australian Autism Biological Registry did not report using psychotropic medication, over a quarter were prescribed medications, primarily stimulants, to manage symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Various medications, including risperidone, were used to help manage challenging behaviours. Medication use should be studied more comprehensively in a larger cohort of autistic persons to confirm our current preliminary observations. Further, future studies should monitor the effectiveness and safety outcomes of such medications due to a limited understanding of their effectiveness in managing the atypical presentation of co-occurring disorders in young autistic persons. Prescriptions and use of medications to treat mental health conditions in young autistic populations are inconsistent worldwide. This makes it hard to compare findings from international studies to the Australian autistic population, where there are limited relevant studies. Apart from risperidone, there are no other medications specified for direct use in autistic persons. This study aims to gain initial broad understanding of the use of medications, commonly prescribed for mental health conditions, specifically by autistics under the age of 21 years. We analysed data that were previously collected as part of the Western Australian Autism Biological Registry between 2011 and 2015 which amounted to 239 surveys completed on young persons with diagnosed autism. The questionnaires included information on co-occurring conditions, current or previous use of medications and reasons for use of the medications. Only one-quarter of the participants in this study reported using at least one mental health–related medication in their lifetime. The most reported medications were stimulants, antidepressants and antiepileptics. The reasons for using medication included managing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, challenging behaviours, seizures, sleep difficulties and symptoms of anxiety and depression. The number of individuals reporting medication use in this study was lower compared to other developed countries. Nevertheless, these medications should be monitored due to limited understanding of their use to manage co-occurring symptoms in young autistic persons. Showing results of open and percutaneous surgical management of traumatic AO type A3, A4 and B2 thoracic and lumbar fractures. Retrospective comparative analysis of traditional open fusion versus percutaneous navigated fixation of thoracic and lumbar spinal fractures. Minimum 24 months follow-up to collect ODI and VAS outcome scores for comparative analysis was required. Fifty-seven patients with a mean age of 39 years met the inclusion criteria. Twenty-six patients were in the open group (Group O) and 31 in the percutaneous group (Group P). The majority of fractures were either type A3 or A4; there were three type B chance fractures in Group O and one in Group P. VAS and ODI scores followed comparable trends in the two groups until the final follow-up. The main statistically significant result between the two groups was blood loss, which was lower in Group P (110 versus 270 ml in Group O on average), although this did not reflect into different clinical outcomes. Similar peri-operative measures of operating time and length of stay were found between the two groups. A significantly higher degree of loss of reduction was noted at follow-up in Group P (8° versus 5° in Group O on average). Open and percutaneous posterior fixation techniques of thoracic and lumbar fractures in this cohort were associated with different perioperative blood losses as well as radiological measurements, but not with clinically meaningful differences in patient reported outcome measures at 24 months' follow-up. The architecture of the brain is too complex to be intuitively surveyable without the use of compressed representations that project its variation into a compact, navigable space. The task is especially challenging with high‐dimensional data, such as gene expression, where the joint complexity of anatomical and transcriptional patterns demands maximum compression. The established practice is to use standard principal component analysis (PCA), whose computational felicity is offset by limited expressivity, especially at great compression ratios. Employing whole‐brain, voxel‐wise Allen Brain Atlas transcription data, here we systematically compare compressed representations based on the most widely supported linear and non‐linear methods—PCA, kernel PCA, non‐negative matrix factorisation (NMF), t‐stochastic neighbour embedding (t‐SNE), uniform manifold approximation and projection (UMAP), and deep auto‐encoding—quantifying reconstruction fidelity, anatomical coherence, and predictive utility across signalling, microstructural, and metabolic targets, drawn from large‐scale open‐source MRI and PET data. We show that deep auto‐encoders yield superior representations across all metrics of performance and target domains, supporting their use as the reference standard for representing transcription patterns in the human brain. Background: Poison centers develop triage threshold guidelines for pediatric metformin ingestions. Our network uses 1700 mg, or 85 mg/kg. Objective: To describe the dose, clinical course, and outcomes for inadvertent metformin ingestions in children 5 years old and younger reported to our statewide poison center network. Methods: We searched the poison center database 2011 to 2021 for metformin ingestions in patients 5 years and younger. Variables included age, sex, weight, dose, symptoms, outcome, and more. We used descriptive statistics with medians and interquartile ranges (IQR) for continuous variables. Results: Of 669 cases, exposures by age were 208 (31.1%) 1 to 2 years, and 275 (41.1%) 2 years. Weight was recorded in 342 (51.1%) (median 13.5 kg; IQR: 3.7 kg), and dose in 149 (22.3%) (median 500 mg; IQR: 500 mg). Milligram/kilogram values were available for 103 (15.4%) with median 42.4 mg/kg, IQR: 39 mg/kg. Most (647, 98.5%) exposures were unintentional. Most (445/669, 66.5%) were managed at a non-healthcare facility, while 204 (30.7%) were already at or referred to a healthcare facility. Of these 204 patients, 169 (82.8%) were evaluated and treated at the emergency department and discharged. Four (2%) were admitted to critical care, and 7 (3.4%) to the ward. Medical outcomes by effect were 5 (0.7%) minor, 2 (0.3%) moderate, 253 (37.8%) none, 292 (43.6%) not followed (minimal effects possible), and no major effects or deaths. Of 20 clinical occurrences reported, vomiting was most common (8, 1.2%). Conclusion: Despite little recorded dosage information, pediatric metformin ingestions under 85 mg/kg had predominantly uneventful medical outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Play in early childhood environments is critical to the social development of all children, including those with disabilities. Children with autism often experience delays in the development of play skills and may especially struggle with social play with peers. Thus, strategies to support social play in inclusive preschool settings are needed. The purpose of this article is to provide practitioners with an overview of evidence-based strategies to increase play interactions between children with autism and their peers in inclusive preschool settings. We outline the importance of play in early childhood classrooms, provide an overview of common play and social interaction challenges experienced by young children with autism, and describe and exemplify strategies to promote play between peers. We provide recommendations for collaborations between special educators and speech language pathologists working with children with autism to support children's play in inclusive environments. Purpose: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered central to ethical, effective service delivery in rehabilitation, and the implementation of the World Health Organisation's Rehabilitation Strategy 2030. This study aimed to explore and compare the experiences of health professionals regarding the application of EBP for stroke rehabilitation in each participant's region and country, which provided perspectives from low, middle, and high-income countries.Methods and materials: Interviews were conducted with 12 experienced rehabilitation professionals from 12 different countries (5 high-income, 2 upper-middle income, 3 lower-middle income, and 2 low-income countries) and interpreted using qualitative descriptive analysis.Results: Nine factors influencing evidence-based stroke rehabilitation were: 1) the complexity of rehabilitation research; 2) the (ir)relevance of research to local context; 3) lack of time for EBP; 4) minimal training in EBP; 5) changing health professional behaviours; 6) poor access to resources for developing EBP; 7) influence of culture, patients, and families; 8) language barriers; and 9) lack of access to research evidence. Economic constraints contributed to many challenges; but not all challenges related to the country's economic classification.Conclusion: A global approach is needed to share knowledge about EBP, especially scientific evidence and innovative thinking about its application to clinical practice. Rehabilitation professional groups should contribute to a global network to improve informal knowledge sharing and training around evidence-based practice. Support for training in evidence-based practice and its application needs to be developed and accessible in all countries, including low and middle-income countries. It is imperative that policymakers prioritise practical, evidence-based solutions for rehabilitation research in low and middle-income countries that can be effectively implemented within local settings. There must be solutions and increased accessibility of journal articles for those working in low and middle-income countries including those whose first language is not English. Single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformations provide more avenues for phase transitions, which have piqued great interest in crystal engineering. In this work, a 3D Co(II)-based coordination polymer (CP), {Co2(OH2)8(btec)}·4H2O (1), (where (btec)4− = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate) undergoes SCSC transition upon heating at 180 °C to afford an anhydrous phase [Co2(btec)] (1′). Room-temperature water-vapour induced semi-reversible SCSC transformation of 1′ involves condensation of two water molecules coordinating to the metal cluster, yielding a new framework [Co2(OH2)2(btec)] (2). These SCSC transitions were accomplished through a sequential bond breaking and new bond formation process which was accompanied by colour changes from orange (1) → violet (1′) → pink (2). All materials were structurally elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and further established by various analytical techniques. According to SCXRD data, all the frameworks possess octahedral geometries around the cobalt(II) sphere. SCXRD studies further revealed that 1 is a polymeric architecture with a binodal 4-c sql topology while 1′ and 2 possess (3,6)-c kgd and (4,6)-c scu 3D nets, respectively. By virtue of multitopicity exhibited by the tetracarboxylate, the coordination number of the linker around the Co(II) sphere increased from four (in 1) to eight (in 1′) and then decreased to six (in 2). Most interestingly, permanent porosity could be observed for the dihydrate 2, originated from potential void space as substantiated by dinitrogen (N2) sorption isotherm. These porous frameworks were active catalysts for the aerobic epoxidation of the model substrate cyclohexene using molecular oxygen (O2) as the final oxidant in the presence of the sacrificial i-butyraldehyde (IBA) reductant. For using the dihydrous phase 2, cyclohexene and various other olefins were catalytically oxidised to their corresponding epoxides with up to 38.5% conversion and 99.0% selectivity. The catalyst 2 can be expediently recycled in four runs without significant loss of activity. This research demonstrates that a little innovation in the active-site-engineered organic–inorganic hybrid materials can significantly enhance the catalytic performance and selectivity of coordination polymer-derived heterogeneous catalysts.
