This article discusses the current status of paternal mental health care in obstetric institutes in Japan. Perinatal depression, which affects up to 15% of women, has been recognized as a common problem that can have adverse impacts on child development. In recent years, there has been a growing belief in Japan that the mental health of the whole family, including fathers, should be supported. However, the actual status of awareness and support for paternal depression in obstetric institutes has not been well analyzed. The article highlights the need to incorporate fathers into perinatal mental health care programs to support healthy families. [Extracted from the article]
