Two binuclear Gadolinium(III) (Gd) complex [Gd2(L1)2(H2L3)2(NO3)2] (1) and [Gd2(L2)2(H2L3)2(NO3)2] (2) were obtained by using 2‐hydroxybenzaldehyde or 2‐hydroxy‐1‐naphthaldehyde, 2‐aminophenol, pyridin‐2‐ylmethanamine and Gd(NO3)3 ⋅ 6H2O in CH3CN (H2L1=(E)‐2‐((2‐hydroxybenzylidene)amino)phenol, H2L2=(E)‐1‐(((2‐hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl)naphthalen‐2‐ol, H2L3=pyridin‐2‐ylmethanamine). Structural analysis suggests that all the ligands as protective units protect the central Gd(III) ions at the periphery. Magnetization studies exhibited magnetocaloric effect of 14.45 J ⋅ kg−1 ⋅ K−1 at 4 K under ΔH=7 T for complex 1 and 12.69 J ⋅ kg−1 ⋅ K−1 at 2 K under ΔH=7 T for complex 2. In complexes 1 and 2, although the coordination configurations are the same, the significant difference in MCE may be due to the adjustments of the peripheral ligands leading to changes in the coordination field strength. Two copper (II) complexes based on the mixed ligand system were synthesized and structurally characterized. The molecular formulae for complex (1), [Cu2L1L′] and complex (2), [CuL2L′] were determined based on analytical data, molar conductance, and thermal analysis results. The optimized structures of complexes (1) and (2) were determined by magnetic and spectroscopic measurements (FTIR, UV–Vis, and ESR) and confirmed by processing powder X‐ray diffraction data by Expo 2014 software. The geometry index (τ5), determined by ESR spectra and structural analysis based on powder X‐ray, demonstrates the square pyramidal geometry of the Cu (II) center of [Cu2L1L′] and [CuL2L′]. Cyclic voltammetry measurements were performed to elucidate the relationship between the redox properties of (1) and (2) and their oxidase‐mimicking catalytic activity. Catalytic aerobic oxidation of the polyphenols 3,5‐di‐tert‐butylcatechol (3,5‐DTBCH2), 4‐nitrocatechol, and 2‐aminophenol (2‐APH3) was studied by stopped‐flow technique. Promising catechol oxidase (COX) and phenoxazinone synthase (PHS) mimetic activity have been demonstrated for (1) and (2). Electrochemical data were used to determine the free energy (ΔG°) or driving force (−λ), and their correlation with the oxidase mimetic activity of(1) and (2) was examined. Metal–organic framework (MOF) membranes with apparent molecular sieving effects have great potential for gas separation. However, their application in light‐gas separation (e.g., CO2/CH4 and H2/CH4) remains challenging due to their enlarged pore structures under transmembrane pressure. In this work, a series of MOF membranes constructed from dual‐wing (DW) ligands including 2‐chloromethylbenzimidazole, 2‐methylbenzimidazole, 2‐ethylbenzimidazole, and 2‐phenylbenzimidazole are reported, to finely tune apertures and enhance molecule sieving property for small‐size gases. These DW‐ligands provide steric resistance in two directions perpendicular to the coordination bond, leading to a much finer pore structure. The introduction of the DW‐ligands endows the DW/ZIF‐8 membranes with an adjustable bottleneck door for regulating gas diffusion, blocking the transport of large‐sized CH4 while allowing small‐sized H2 and CO2 to permeate. The membranes show significantly improved molecular sieving property with a CO2/CH4 mixed‐gas selectivity of 58.6 in the case of 2‐chloromethylbenzimidazole23/ZIF‐8, which represents the highest value among the reported ZIF membranes. This membrane also exhibits exceptional separation performance for H2/CH4 and H2/C3H8 with separation factors of 430 and 34341, which are the highest values among the reported MOF membranes. The current work reports the synthesis of mixed ligand‐metal complexes of (2‐(2‐oxoacenaphthylen‐1 ylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide) (L1) and carbamothioyl‐2‐chloronicotinohydrazonic acid (L2) and imidazole (im), triphenylphosphine (PPh3) and pyridine (py) ligands with Cu (II), Zn (II), Fe (II) and Co (II) salts.The chacterization was done through FT‐IR, NMR, UV‐visible, and elemental analysis. The X‐ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of [Cu(L1)(im)2(SO4)] demonstrated the crystalline morphology. In the FT‐IR spectra of the ligands, the characteristic frequencies corresponding to ν(C=N) (imine) and ν(C=S) (thiocarbonyl) were observed around 1650 and 1130 cm−1 respectively, which shifted upon complexation. In the 1H NMR spectra, the peak due to the NH proton was observed downfield, whereas that of ‐NH2 was observed comparatively upfield owing to its secondary amine nature. The molecular docking was performed against transforming growth beta (tgf‐β), protease of SARS‐CoV‐2 (Mpro) and aspartate kinase (Asp) kinase.The molecular simulation with the docked complex of [Zn(L2)(py)2(SO4)] and [Zn(L1)(PPh3)2(SO4)] with Asp kinase showed significant stability during the simulation time of 100 ns. The relative free energies of the simulated complexes were calculated with the molecular mechanics Poison‐Boltmann surface area (MM‐PBSA). The complexes were tested against ten bacterial strains and showed enhanced antibacterial activity than the ligands. The medication bromhexine (BHX) is well‐known for its unique properties and therapeutic advantages, with prospective uses in the prevention and treatment of cancer growth and bacterial infections. The current research describes the synthesis of a unique series of mixed ligand complexes of Cr(III), Fe(III), Ni(II), Mn(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) produced from BHX (1ry ligand) and 1,10‐phenanthroline (Phen; 2ry ligand) and distinguished by spectral. The two ligands' potential for coordination with metal ions has been suggested in view of chemical analysis and spectral (1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance, ultraviolet–visible, and mass spectrometry) and thermal studies. BHX and Phen are neutrally bidentately coupled to the metal ions, according to infrared spectral study. The general formula of [M(BHX)(Phen)(H2O)n.Clm] was suggested using the molar conductivity, elemental analyses, and thermal information of the complexes that were produced. Where M = Fe(III) (n = y = 2, m = 0, and x = 3), Co(II) (n = x = 2, m = 0, and y = 3), Ni(II) (n = x = 2, m = 0, and y = 6), and Cd(II) (n = x = y = 2 and m = 0) with an octahedral geometry was proposed. Thermal analyses revealed that the complexes lost anionic part and organic ligands in continual changes after first losing water molecules of hydration. Compared with their parent BHX ligand, the mixed ligand complexes demonstrated promising microbiological activities against a variety of bacterial species, including Gram‐positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). According to the results, mixed ligand complexes are more efficient than the parent BHX and Phen ligands. The complexes moderately inhibit the development of the MCF‐7 antibreast cancer cell line. In this paper, a known mixed-ligand MOF {[Co2(TZMB)2(1,4-bib)0.5(H2O)2]·(H2O)2}n (compound 1) was reproduced, and its potential application potential was explored. It was found that compound 1 had high photocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction. After 12 h of illumination, the formation rate of CO, which is the product of CO2 reduction by compound 1, reached 3012.5 μmol/g/h. At the same time, compound 1 has a good antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Candida albicans (C. albicans), which has potential research value in the medical field. In this study, new mixed ligand Cu(II), Ni(II) and Pd(II) metal complexes were synthesized and characterized by NMR (for ligand), UV‐Vis, elemental analysis, FT‐IR, molar conductivity techniques. While the octahedral structure is recommended for Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes, the square plane structure is recommended for the Pd(II) complex. The compounds lack conductivity traits indicating their non‐electrolyte nature in solution. Photoluminescence properties of the synthesized mixed ligand complexes were investigated. These three complexes showed emission bands when excited at their maximum absorbances. The excitation/emission bands of the Pd(II) complex shifted to higher (red) wavelengths when compared to the Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes. The Pd(II) complex showed the Stokes shift of 26 nm. These metal complexes were screened for their anticancer activities against the colon cancer (DLD‐1) and lung cancer (A549) cell lines. The results show that these complexes have antiproliferative activity. In particular, two of the complexes (Pd(II) and Cu(II)) were found to have a higher cytotoxic effect than the positive control drug cisplatin with low IC50 values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this complex, triethanolamine acts as a tetradentate ligand and the 4-NBA act as monodentate ligands. [Display omitted] • A novel mixed imidazole ligand MIL-88A was proposed and prepared for the first time. • The photocatalyst revealed significantly smaller particle size and greatly improved photocatalytic capacity. • 100% decomposition of 100 ppm AR1 dye was achieved within 45 min of irradiation with the assistance of a trace amount of H 2 O 2. • A dye removal rate of 99.98% was maintained after five cycles. • Photo-generated h+ was the main oxidizing specie in the photocatalytic reaction. In this study, we fabricated MIL-88A metal–organic frameworks with excellent physicochemical properties using mixed organic ligands. In addition, we investigated the effects of different iron precursors on the physicochemical properties of the as-prepared MIL-88A samples. We determined that the difference between the dissociation rates of the metal ions of different iron precursors affected the crystallization rate of MIL-88A, which effectively decreased particle size, causing an increase in the adsorption capacity of MIL-88A and significantly improving its photocatalytic activity. Two organic ligands: 2-methylimidazole and fumaric acid, were mixed, and the formed dihydrate affected the crystallization rate of MIL-88A; moreover, the as-fabricated MIL-88A presented small particle size and high oxidation potential. The as-prepared mixed organic ligand MIL-88A removed 96.42% of AR1 dye from an AR1 dye solution with a concentration of 20 mg/L after 2 h of irradiation. Furthermore, an AR1 dye removal of 100% was achieved after only 45 min of irradiation using a 100 mg/L AR1 dye solution in the presence of trace H 2 O 2. The decomposition efficiency of MIL-88A did not decrease after five removal cycles, and this was attributed to the excellent decomposition efficiency of MIL-88A with mixed organic ligands, which was ascribed to its remarkable adsorption capacity and high oxidation potential. Strong oxidizing hydroxyl radicals were generated via a photo-Fenton reaction to improve the oxidative power of MIL-88A, and pollutants were decomposed without generating residues. Synthesis of some ternary complexes with isatin (ISA) as primary ligand and N,N,N,N‐tetramethyl ethylene diamine (TMEDA) as secondary ligand with a series of metal ions (M) Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) is presented. IR, elemental analysis, melting point, molar conductance, mass and thermal analysis were applied to characterize the prepared compounds. Conductometry measurements reveal that all complexes are non‐electrolytes except Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III) and Co(II) complexes. In the light of magnetic and solid reflectance techniques, all prepared complexes were suggested in an octahedral geometry. ESR study of Cu(II) complex prove its octahedral geometry. The mixed ligand complexes were found to have the formulae [M(ISA)(TMEDA)Cl2] where M=Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II); [M(ISA)(TMEDA)Cl2]Cln.xH2O in case of M=Cr(III), Fe(III) and Cd(II) (where n=l, x=0 for Cr(III), n=l, x=0 for Fe(III) and n=0, x=2 for Cd(II) and [M(ISA)(TMEDA)Cl(H2O)]Cl in case of M=Mn(II) and Co(II). Antimicrobial activity of some complexes are higher than parent ligands. Molecular docking study confirmed the importance of Cu(II), Ni(II) and Cr(III) complexes as they have the highest interaction with the receptors of crystal structure of S.aureus nucleoside (PDB ID: 3Q8U), E. coli (PDB: 3T88) and protein phosphatase (PPZl) of C. albicans (PDB: 5JPE) with minimum binding energy of −2l.5, −7.2 and −45.6 kcal/mol, respectively. A Cu(II) coordination polymer with the composition of [Cu2(L)2(4,4ʹ-bipy)2]n·2 n(ClO4) (1, HL = 4-methyl-L-phenylalanine and 4,4ʹ-bipy is 4,4ʹ-bipyridine), was successfully obtained by the reaction of the mixed ligand of HL and 4,4ʹ-bipy with Cu(ClO4)2 · 6H2O under solvothermal condition. The as-synthesized compound not only has high thermal stability until 275°C but also excellent photocatalytic activity for the methyl blue solution degradation under the irradiation of ultraviolet light. Furthermore, the compound's treatment activity on the diabetes was determined and its relevant mechanism was also studied. Mixed ligand Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu (II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) complexes with (TMAP) Schiff base ligand and (8HQ) have been composition and analyzed. On the principle of electronic spectra, magnetic moment studies, an octahedral structure has been designated for the metal complexes. Further parameters of the thermodynamic and kinetic for the various stages of decomposition were determined to utilize the Horowitz-Metzger and Coats-Redfern ways. Then, the ligand in rapprochement to metal complexes is tested for their anticancer and antimicrobial efficacy with breastic cancer cell line. The outcomes showed that the metal complexes are more active than the parent TMAP ligand but more active than (8HQ) free ligand. In these complexes, the metal ion chalets to the ligand through the azomethine linkage, (NH2) and imine(C=N) groups of trimethoprim drug. Two new Co(II)-based coordination polymers {[Co(L)](DMF)}n (1, H2L = 5-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)isophthalic acid) and {[Co2(L)2(H2O)]·3H2O}n (2) are successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal or solvothermal method. The resulting single crystal X-ray diffraction studies demonstrate that complex 1 presents a 3D 3,6-connected framework with a binuclear Co(II) paddle-wheel cluster as the secondary building unit, while complex 2 displays a 3,3,4,8-connected 3D network structure with the a trinuclear linear Co3(CO2)6 cluster as the secondary building unit. Two coordination polymers named [Co(tib)(H2O)3]· ipa·2H2O (1, H2ipa = iso-phthalic acid) and [Cu3(tib)2(BTB)2]·DMF·2H2O (2, H3BTB = 4,4′,4′′-gbenzene-1,3,5-triyl-tribenzoic acid, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) were constructed using a solvothermal method by reaction of metal salts with the 1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene (tib) ligands and different carboxylate linkers as the co-ligands. By applying the mixed‐ligand approach, a new Cu(II)‐containing coordination polymer [Cu4(L)4(4,4′‐bpy)(H2O)2]·3H2O (1) was successfully prepared through hydrothermal method using linear 4,4′‐bipyridine (4,4′‐bpy) and the V‐shape carboxylate ligand 4,4′‐(phenylazanediyl)dibenzoic acid (H2L). The as‐prepared complex 1 was determined by single‐crystal X‐ray crystallography and elemental analysis. Furthermore, we use the grinding method to prepare the samples of complex 1 in the nanoscale. In this research, the CCK‐8 was performed first to detect the inhibitory activity of complex 1 on J82 bladder cancer cell viability. The apoptotic effect of complex 1 on J82 cancer cells was evaluated by Annexin V‐FITC/PI staining. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) was also detected by detection kit in this study after complex 1 treatment. The solvothermal reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O with different donor ligands afforded two new Cd(II)-based coordination polymers [Cd(Hcia)(btz)]n (1, H3cia = 5-(4-carboxyphenoxy)isophthalic acid, btz = 4,4'-bi(1,2,4-triazole)) and {[Cd(2,2-bpy)(NO3)2(H2O)](DMA)}n (2, 2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine). In this work, a new Ni(II)-based coordination polymer (CP) with the chemical formula of {[(Ni)2(L1)(L2)(H2O)2](DMF)2}n (1, H4L1 = 5-((3,5-dicarboxybenzyl)oxy)isophthalic acid, L2 = 2,4,6-tri(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazine) has been successfully prepared by reaction of Ni(NO3)2·6H2O with the 5-((3,5-dicarboxybenzyl)oxy)isophthalic acid and tri(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazine in a mixed solvent of DMF and water. Furthermore, nano-sized complex 1 was prepared via using the refluxing method, and the scannig electron microscopy confirmed nano-sized particles and their homogeneous distribution. By introducing functional groups into the isophthalate ligand to decorate the pore of the MOFs, gas adsorption and separation performance can be tunable. In this paper, two isostructural 2D Co-MOFs, [Co(5-MIA)(bpy)]·H 2 O (1) and [Co(5-EIA)(bpy)]·H 2 O (2) (5-H 2 MIA = 5-methoxyl-isophthalic acid; 5-H 2 EIA = 5-ethyoxyl-isophthalic acid; bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), with different functionalized pore surfaces and channel sizes were designed and constructed. The structures and performance of the two Co-MOFs were analyzed by SCXRD, PXRD, IR, TGA, and gas sorption (CO 2 , C 2 H 2 , CH 4 , CO, and N 2). Attributed to the methoxyl of isophthalate skeleton, 1a (activated 1) shows enhanced CO 2 uptake over other gases. In spite of decreased pore sizes (3.49 Å) compared with 2a (4.38 Å), the CO 2 uptake of 1a (43.41 cm3 g−1) is larger than that of 2a (22.39 cm3 g−1) at 298 K and 100 kPa. Compound 1 incorporates methoxyl groups into the narrow channel, and exhibits the cooperative effect of CO 2 -preferential due to adsorbent-adsorbate coactions and size sieving. GCMC simulation has been used to explore the adsorption coactions of CO 2 and 1 , and the results confirmed that the methoxyl groups in the channel are the main binding sites of CO 2. At ambient temperature and 100 kPa, the IAST selectivities of CO 2 /C 2 H 2 (1:1), CO 2 /CH 4 (1:1), C 2 H 2 /CH 4 (1:1), CO 2 /CO (1:2) and CO 2 /N 2 (15:85) on 1a were 2.6, 39.3, 13.3, 282 and 1433, respectively. The easy activation and regeneration, excellent thermal and humidity stability, and good reusability, make 1 a hopeful adsorbent for adsorption and separation of CO 2. Two new coordination polymers {[Zn(HL)(HBpp)] · H2O}n (I) and [Cd(HL)(HBpe)]n (II) (H4L = 5-(2,3-dicarboxy phenoxy) isophthalic acid, Bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane, Bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene) were prepared and characterize by element analysis, powder XRD and single crystal X-ray diffraction (CCDC nos. 1836060 (I), 1844999 (II)). The single-crystal X-ray diffractions reveal that the complex I is a 2D carboxylate layer with the HBpp suspension arms, in which the zinc(II) is four-coordinated with a tetrahedral geometry. I–III–VI quantum dots (QDs) play an important role in visible-light-driven photocatalysis due to their unique optical properties and widely tunable bandgap. However, these materials suffer from rich defect states and high charge carrier recombination. In this work, a facile mixed-ligand method was developed for the manipulation of the optical and photocatalytic properties of multinary Ag–In–Zn–S QDs by introducing 3-mecaptopropionic acid (MPA) into the l-cysteine (Cys) capped QDs system during synthesis. The effect and mechanism of MPA addition was systematically investigated. With the increase of MPA/Cys, the photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (QY) of the QDs shows an obvious increase at the first stage (MPA/Cys < 5:5), whereas the particle size and UV–Vis absorption remain almost unchanged. Photocatalytic properties of QDs shows similar trend as PL QY with the increase of MPA/Cys, where the hydrogen production rate was doubled with MPA/Cys = 5:5. With ascorbic acid (AA) as the sacrificial reagent, the MPA/Cys capped QDs gave a hydrogen production rate as high as 6.64 mmol g−1 h−1, which is comparable to the state-of-the-art results but without any cocatalyst, indicating the fascination of the simple mixed-ligand method. Further mechanism study indicates that the introduced MPA resulted in dramatic increase of the PL lifetime and the reduction of nonradiative decay, which can be ascribed to the strong passivation effect of MPA. The MPA/Cys capped QDs also show compressed charge recombination as indicated in electrochemical impedance spectra, slightly more negative ζ-potential and reduced hydrated particle radius, which may also contribute to the improved charge transfer for photocatalysis. Our method provides a super simple strategy for the defect manipulation of the Ag–In–Zn–S QDs without the sacrifice of charge transfer, which could be a useful guideline for efficient QDs-based visible-active photocatalysts. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuels cause air pollution and lead to adverse impact on environment. To achieve low-carbon economy, capturing CO2 in the environment by methods like physisorption on zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) and other zeolite materials has gained attention due to their pore tunability and adsorption efficiency. Exploring the efficacy of the ZIF in adsorbing CO2, we report a rapid and convenient protocol for the synthesis of novel hybrid monometallic and bimetallic Zn/Co/Co-Zn-based ZIFs at room temperature, and we evaluate their CO2 capture capacity. ZIFs with varying Co:Zn ratio were synthesized by altering the content of Co and Zn precursors. The CO2 uptake capacity of mono/bimetallic Zn-Co ZIFs was studied at 298 K and attains the highest CO2 uptake of 65.50 cm3/g. Abstract The new series of divalent metal complexes [M(ox)(thy) 2 ]; M = Cd2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Fe2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+, with mixed ligands oxalato (ox) and theophylline (thy) were prepared and characterized by molar conductance, FT-IR, UV–visible, 1H and 13C NMR and X-ray structure analysis. The crystal structure including the positions of the Zn (II) complex was determined by powder diffraction analysis using the FOX program. In the structure of zinc complex, the zinc (II) cations are octahedrally coordinated by two terminals N-bonding for theophylline ligand and by the O atoms of two oxalato bidentate ligand, resulting in discrete and slightly distorted octahedral complex. This complex was crystallized in the monoclinic system (C1 2/c1) space group and the unit cell parameters are a = 11.8364(1)Å, b = 4.5200(1)Å, c = 9.9942(1)Å with β (°) = 126.4770(2)°. The antimicrobial activity of the complexes was studied and the results of their tests show that the metal (II) complexes are more effective against several of bacterial and fungal strains. Abstract Two novel mixed-ligand complexes of lead(II), [Pb(Cup) 2 (Phen)] 2 ](DPE) (1) and [Pb(Cup)(ONO 2)(Phen)] (2) (Cup = cupferronato, Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, and DPE = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene), were synthesized in the presence of common bridging ligands which are usually used in synthesis of lead(II) coordination polymers as well as utilization of Cup and Phen as O,O′- and N,N′- chelates, respectively. Structural features of 1 and 2 in solution were investigated by 1H and 13C NMR experiments. The accurate assignment of these signals was inferred from a series of 1H–1H COSY, 1H–13C HSQC, and 1H–13C HMBC spectra. The solid-state structures of 1 and 2 were also investigated via single crystal XRD. By considering the obtained structural parameters, the coordination of 1 is hemidirected while 2 is suggested to be holodirectional. Additionally, complex 1 consist of dimers which are further associated via π-π stacking to a one-dimensional coordination polymer while complex 2 forming a step-like one-dimensional chain by an intermolecular interaction between each molecule and two nitrato groups of the two adjacent molecules. Both complexes showed significant antibacterial and antifungal characteristics in disc diffusion tests and they could be considered as new potent antimicrobial material. A common motif in the structures, independent of their dimensionality is the bridging action of the neutral BIBP ligand between two metal ions and a metal chelating coordination of the dianionic PDC ligand through the pyridine nitrogen atom and the carboxylate group in 2-position. The comparative single crystal X-ray structure investigations reveal the fine-tuning influence of the carboxylic group positions in the pyridinedicarboxylate (PDC) ligands and the metal nature on the final structure topology and dimensionality. Compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural and represent Co(II) and Ni(II) isomorphs, where the metal ions coordinate two water molecules and the 2,6-PDC ligand in ONO chelate mode, while the bidentate BIBP ligand link the metal ions into a dinuclear complex. In 3 the 2,6-PDC ligand coordinates to the zinc atom in the same ONO chelate mode and two bridging BIBP ligands give a coordination number of five and extend the structure to a 1D polymer with an enantiopure triple-stranded helix motif in a case of spontaneous resolution in the chiral tetragonal space group P 4 3 22. In 4 the 2,5-PDC ligand realises its chelate-bridging function and together with the bridging BIBP ligand form 2D layers with the Ni(II) atoms with hcb (honeycomb or 6,3) topology. In 5 the chelate-bridging 2,3-PDC and BIBP ligands form (4,4)-layers which are interlinked by additional BIBP pillars to a 3D network with two-fold interpenetration of symmetry-related networks. A new mixed-ligand copper(II) complex, [Cu(L)(phen)]⋅MeOH (L = 4-chloro-2-[(2-hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl]phenol), was synthesized. It belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system and Cu(II) is five-coordinated in a seriously distorted square pyramidal geometry. DNA binding experiments confirmed an intercalative mode of interaction of the complex with calf thymus DNA. In a DNA cleavage experiment with the complex, as hydrogen peroxide was involved, oxidative DNA cleavage occurred and double-stranded breaks even appeared at certain concentration. The strong interaction with bovine serum albumin suggested that the complex might be transported by protein. The complex exhibited more significant cytotoxicity in HeLa cells (IC50 = 0.46 ± 0.01 μM) for 48 h, compared with cisplatin (10.61 ± 0.86 μM). This work indicated that the complex could induce apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner and was associated with cell cycle arrest to some extent. Being consistent with the results of DNA cleavage experiment, comet assay indicated that the complex induced severe DNA fragmentation. The results showed the production of reactive oxygen species increased with increasing concentration of the complex. Complexes 1 and 2 show two-dimensional network. In complex 3, the adjacent Ag 10 units are bridged by 5-methyl-2-apy ligands to form a 2D infinite undulated sheet. Adjacent 2D sheets are linked by coordinative bonds between carboxylic oxygen atoms and Na(I) ions to form a 3D coordination polymer. Complex 4 is a 0-D discrete trinuclear molecule, and the self-complementary the O H⋯O and N H⋯O hydrogen bonds incorporating hydrogen bond motifs extend these molecules into a 2D supramolecular framework. Compound 5 exhibits 1D-chain structure. However, complex 5 shows 3D supramolecular structure results from the linkage of neighboring layers through a rich hydrogen-bonding between uncoordinated sulfonates, amino groups and coordinated carboxylates. Compound 1 is a 1D ladder-like structure with two bridging and one terminal (dangling) BIX ligand. Neighboring ladders mutually entangle with the dangling BIX ligand being threaded through {Zn 4 (BIX) 4 } openings from adjacent strands. Compound 2 shows a 3D pcu -network with octahedrally coordinated cobalt ions bridged by three crystallographically different inversion-symmetric BIX ligands. The overall structure motifs in the mixed-ligand compounds are 1D metal-carboxylate chain-structures, bridged by neutral BIX ligands to form either 1D ladder-like strands ( 4 ), 2D networks ( 3 , 5 with square lattice, 4,4 or sql topology, 7 , 8 with honeycomb, 6,3 or hcb topology) or 3D frameworks ( 6 with diamond, 6,6 or dia topology). Noteworthy, compound 4 forms a 1D tubular structure of stacked {Co 2 (BIX) 2 } metallacycles that are threaded with uncoordinated BIX ligands like a rotaxane. A tetrahedral asymmetric Zn atom is formed in the crystals of 6 with spontaneous resolution as only one Zn configuration assembles into the 3D chiral framework of each single crystal. An ultramicropore MOF, {[Co 6 (5-MIA) 5 (tmbpy)(μ 3 -OH) 2 (ethanol) 2 ]∙(ethanol) 2 } n (2) (5-H 2 MIA= 5- methoxyl-isophthalic acid; tmbpy ​= ​3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridine), was rationally designed and constructed. The gas sorption behavior of 2 for C 2 H 2 , CO 2 , CH 4 , CO, and N 2 was investigate by experiments. The C 2 H 2 and CO 2 uptakes of the activated sample (2a) were up to 64.87 ​cm3 ​g−1 and 63.97 ​cm3 ​g−1 at 273 ​K (100 ​kPa), respectively. Specifically, 2a possesses 3.5 ​Å of aperture and multi-functional sites (open Co2+ sites and methoxy groups), resulting in the synergistic effect of size sieving and host-guest interactions for selective adsorption of carbon dioxide (or acetylene). The IAST selectivities of C 2 H 2 /CH 4 (1:1) and CO 2 /CH 4 (1:1) on 2a were 26.6 and 12.3 ​at ambient temperature and 100 ​kPa, respectively. The easy regeneration, outstanding humid/thermal stability, and good reusability, make it a promising candidate for industrial application of the separation of C 2 H 2 /CH 4 , CO 2 /CH 4 , CO 2 /N 2 and CO 2 /CO. A water-stable Co-based MOF was prepared involving the 5-ethoxyl-isophthalate and 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridine mixtures, in which title compound possesses the synergistic effect of size sieving (3.5 ​Å of aperture) and multi-functional sites (open Co2+ sites and methoxy), leading to the excellent separation performance. The hydrothermal reaction of K 8 Na 2 [A-α-GeW 9 O 34 ]·25H 2 O, Cu(CH 3 COO) 2 ·H 2 O, Ln(NO 3 )·6H 2 O and ethylenediamine (en) has led to a series of inorganic–organic hybrid copper–lanthanide heterometal comprising germanotungstates (GTs) [Cu(en) 2 (H 2 O)] 6 [Ln(H 2 O)(CH 3 COO)(α-GeW 11 O 39 )] 2 ·8H 2 O [Ln = Nd 3+ ( 1 ), Sm 3+ ( 2 ), Eu 3+ ( 3 ), Gd 3+ ( 4 ), Dy 3+ ( 5 ), Ho 3+ ( 6 )], which have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, thermogravimetric (TG) analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Their common feature of 1 – 6 is that they all comprise a CH 3 COO-bridging mono-Ln substituted dimeric GT fragment [Ln(H 2 O)(CH 3 COO)(α-GeW 11 O 39 )] 2 12− with six supporting [Cu(en) 2 (H 2 O)] 2+ complex cations. A new stable cobalt-organic framework, namely [Co 2 (oba) 2 (H 2 Me 4 bpz)] n ( 1 ) (H 2 oba = 4.4′-oxydibenzoic acid, H 2 Me 4 bpz = 3.3′,5,5′-tetramethyl-4,4′-bipyrazole), has been synthesized by combining the mixed H 2 oba and H 2 Me 4 bpz with Co(CH 3 COO) 2 ·4H 2 O under solvothermal conditions, which was characterized by infrared spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analyses. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 features a three-dimensional framework, which is built from interesting tetrahedral cages. Binuclear Cr(III) metal ion complex was synthesized using diphenylacetic acid as primary ligand and 2-methyl pyridine (2-picoline) as secondary ligand. The synthesized complex was characterized by conductivity, FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, magnetic moment and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). FTIR spectra indicated the coordination of deprotonated diphenylacetic acid and 2-picoline through nitrogen and oxygen. The presence of water molecules inside the coordination sphere of the complex was confirmed from IR spectrum and TGA analysis. Binuclear and octahedral structure of the Cr(III) complex confirmed by TGA, UV-Vis spectroscopy and magnetic moment measurement. A new coordination polymer {[Co2(DPDBT)2(DCPS)2(H2O)](H2O)} n ( 1) [DPDBT = 2,8-di(pyridin-4-yl)dibenzothiophene, H2DCPS = 4,4′-dicarboxydiphenyl sulfone], was synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Complex 1 exhibits a 2D structure with two different kinds of binuclear cobalt cluster units. To determine the influence of metal ion and N-donor auxiliary ligands on the formation of metal–organic frameworks, four novel metal coordination polymers, [Cd(bdam)(phen) 2 ] n ( 1 ), [Cd(bdam)(bpy)] n · n H 2 O ( 2 ), [Zn(bdam)(bpy)] n · n H 2 O ( 3 ) and [Ag 4 (bdam) 2 (dpe)] n ( 4 ) (H 2 bdam = benzophenone-2,4′-dicarboxylic acid, bpy = 2,2′-bpyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, dpe = 1,2-(4-pyridyl)ethane) were synthesized and characterized. Complex 1 is 1D square-wave-like chain structure. Two phen ligands chelate to one cadmium atom in 1 . 2 shows 1D ring chain based on dinuclear cadmium unit linked by (bdam) 2− ions, while two 2,2′-bpy ligands coordinate one dinuclear cadmium unit. 3 forms a 1D right-handed helical chain. Different from the above complexes, 4 possesses a 2D network structure based on octanuclear silver clusters cross-linked by bdam 2− ions and dpe ligands, in which there is significantly Ag⋯Ag interactions. The structural differences of 1 and 2 indicate that the subtle variations on N-donor ligands can greatly affect the coordination modes of (bdam) 2− ion and the coordination geometries of Cd II ion. The structural differences of 2 , 3 and 4 indicate that metal ions also have great influence on the structures of the complexes. In addition, we have investigated the luminescence of 1 – 4 in the solid state at room temperature, revealing that the polymers are photoluminescent and their emissions are varied with the alteration of metal ions and N-donor ligands. Two isomorphic metal-organic frameworks, [Co 2 (4-Ptz) 2 (BDC)(DMA)] n ( 1 ) and [Co 2 (4-Ptz) 2 (2-NH 2 -BDC)(DMA)] n ( 2 ) (4-Ptz=5-(4-Pyridyl)tetrazole, H 2 BDC=Terephthalic Acid, 2-NH 2 -H 2 BDC=2-Aminoterephthalic Acid, DMA=N,N-dimethylacetamide), have been successfully constructed through solvothermal reactions. Crystallographic data analysis reveals a binuclear Co(II) cluster-based structure for 1 and 2 , which were constructed by bridging two neighboring Co(II) ions with teterazole rings of 4-Ptz ligand together with one DMA oxygen atom. Simplifying Co 2 cluster as a 6-connecting node, complexes 1 and 2 reveal bcu-6 net. The CO 2 adsorption isotherms measurement at 273 K manifests higher adsorption quantities for 2 (33.8 cm 3 /g) than 1 (26.2 cm 3 /g), which was attributed to the introduction of NH 2 -group in 2 . With flexible 2-methylenesuccinate acid (H 2 MSA) and rigid 4, 4′-bipyridine (bpy) as mixed ligands, two three-dimensional (3D) metal−organic frameworks (MOFs), {[Zn 3 (μ 2 -OH) 2 (MSA) 2 (bpy) 2 ]·4H 2 O} n (1) and {[Cd(MSA)(bpy)]·2H 2 O} n (2), were obtained solvothermally. Complexes 1 and 2 both have a 3D framework structures, which include respectively a linear trinuclear [Zn 3 ] or a rare dinuclear [Cd 2 ] cluster node that consisting of two seven-coordinated Cd(II) ions. The adjacent [Zn 3 ] or [Cd 2 ] nodes in 1 and 2 are firstly linked together by the MSA2− ligand to form a 1D chain or a 2D layer unit respectively, which are further bridged by the bpy linkers to produce the 3D framework structures. If treating the [Zn 3 ] and [Cd 2 ] cluster as 4- and 6-connected nodes, the 3D frameworks of 1 and 2 can be simplified into a CdSO 4 topological network with a Schläfli symbol of (65.8) and a rob network with a Schläfli symbol of (48.66.8), respectively. The PXRD patterns suggest that 1 and 2 have good stability when soaked in water for at least 48 h. The fluorescence sensing properties of 1 and 2 toward different metal inorganic ions were investigated, and two complexes both could sense Fe3+, MnO 4 − and Cr 2 O 7 2− in aqueous solution with high sensitivity and selectivity (the LODs were 3.20 μM, 1.54 μM and 1.95 μM for 1 , 1.15 μM, 0.48 μM and 1.23 μM for 2 , respectively) as well as good recircularity. In addition, the mechanism of the selective luminescence quenching response for Fe3+, MnO 4 − and Cr 2 O 7 2− could be attributed to the energy competition between the excitation of complex 1 / 2 and the ultraviolet absorption of responsive substances. Six mixed ligand complexes, namely, [Co(acac)L 1 ] ( 1 ), [Fe(acac)L 1 ] ( 2 ), [Co(acac)L 2 ] ( 3 ), [Fe(acac)L 2 ] ( 4 ), [Co(acac)L 3 ] ( 5 ), and [Fe(acac)L 3 ] ( 6 ) (H 2 L 1 = NN / -bis(salicylidene)-trans 1,2 diaminocyclohexane, H 2 L 2 = NN / -bis(salicylidene)-1,2 phenylenediamine, H 2 L 3 = NN / -bis(salicylidene)-4-methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine) were synthesised and characterized using elemental analysis, IR spectra, UV–Vis spectra, mass spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis. The molar conductance measurement confirmed the non-electrolytic nature of the complexes in DMF solution. Antioxidant activity of the complexes was studied using the 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging method. Biological studies of the complexes have been carried out in vitro for antimicrobial activity against some selected gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. A new tetradentate N 4 -coordinate ligand N , N -bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl-N 2 -phenylethane-1,2-diamine (bdpab) has been synthesized and characterized. Six new mononuclear mixed ligand complexes of the types [M(bdpab)(NCS)]Y [M = Cu(II) and Zn(II), Y = PF 6 − , ClO 4 − ], [M′(bdpab)(NCS) 2 ] [M′ = Co(II) and Ni(II)] have been synthesized by treating metal nitrate/perchlorate, tetradentate N 4 -coordinated ligand (bdpab), NCS − and PF 6 − ions using appropriate mole ratio and characterized by spectral and physico-chemical techniques. Crystal structures of four compounds [Cu(bdpab)(NCS)]ClO 4 , [Co(bdpab)(NCS) 2 ], [Ni(bdpab)(NCS) 2 ] and [Zn(bdpab)(NCS)]PF 6 have been solved by single crystal X-ray crystallography studies. Structural analyses reveal copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes have five coordination with distorted square pyramidal [for copper(II)] or trigonal bipyramidal [for zinc(II)] geometry whereas Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes have distorted octahedral geometry. The mixed ligand complexes of the kind [M(L1) (L2)] where M= Pt(II), Pd(II).L1 = primary ligand ethyl-α-isonitrosoacetoacetate derived from reaction between ethyl acetoacetate, acetic acid and sodium nitrite and L2=secondary ligand para-phenyldiamine (PPD) are synthesized. All the prepared complexes were identified and confirmed by elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, and infrared electronic absorption. Their complexes has been made based on elemental analysis, molar conductivity, UV-Vis, FT-IR and ¹HNMR spectroscopy and magnetic moment measurements as well as thermal analysis (TGA and DTA). The elemental analysis information recommends that the stoichiometry of the complexes to be 1:2:1. The molar conductance measurements of the complexes indicate their non-electrolytic nature. The infrared spectral information showed the coordination sites of the free ligand with the central metal particle.
