Background: This pilot study aimed to investigate medication nonadherence among Taiwanese patients with diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia using the Chinese version of the Two-Part Medication Nonadherence Scale (C-TPMNS) and the National Health Insurance (NHI) Medicloud system. The study revealed insights into the factors contributing to nonadherence and the implications for improving patient adherence to medications for chronic conditions. However, the small sample size limits the generalizability of the findings. Additionally, the study identified the need for further research with larger and more diverse samples to validate the preliminary findings. Methods: The study conducted surveys individuals in central Taiwan who received three-high medications and those who returned expired medications from chain pharmacies. A structured questionnaire including the C-TPMNS was administered, and additional data on medical history and HbA1c, LDL, and blood pressure levels were collected from the NHI Medicloud system. Data analysis was performed using multiple ordered logistic regression and Wald test methods. Setting interpretation cutoff point to determine medication nonadherence. Results: The study found that 25.8% of participants were non-adherent to prescribed medications. Non-adherent individuals had significantly higher systolic blood pressure (SBP ≥ 140 mmHg) than adherent participants. Non-adherence was also associated with factors such as lower education, single status, living alone, abnormal glucose postprandial concentration, and triglyceride levels. The C-TPMNS demonstrated good reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.816) and validity (area under the ROC curve = 0.72). Conclusion: The study highlighted the complexity of medication nonadherence with diverse determinants and emphasized the importance of tailored interventions. The findings underscored the need for region-specific research to comprehensively address medication nonadherence, especially focusing on adherence to medications for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. The study also identified the need for larger, more diverse studies to validate and expand upon the initial findings and emphasized the importance of pharmacist interventions and patient empowerment in managing chronic conditions and improving overall health outcomes. Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) limits papaya production worldwide. Previously, we generated transgenic lines of hybrid Tainung No.2 (TN-2) carrying the coat protein (CP) gene of PRSV with broad resistance to PRSV strains. Unfortunately, all of them were female, unacceptable for growers and consumers in practical applications. With our reported flanking sequences and the newly released papaya genomic information, the CP-transgene insert was identified at a non-coding region in chromosome 3 of the papaya genome, and the flanking sequences were verified and extended. The female transgenic line 16-0-1 was first used for backcrossing with the parental Sunrise cultivar six times and then followed by selfing three times. With multi-level molecular markers developed from the PRSV CP transgene and the genomic flanking sequences, the presence and zygosity of the CP transgene were characterized at the seedling stage. Meanwhile, hermaphrodite genotype was identified by a sex-linked marker. With homozygotic transgene and horticultural properties of Sunrise, a selected hermaphrodite individual was propagated by tissue culture (TC) and used as maternal progenitor to cross with non-transgenic parental cultivar Thailand to generate a new hybrid cultivar TN-2 with a hemizygotic CP-transgene. Three selected hermaphrodite individuals of transgenic TN were micropropagated by TC, and they showed broad-spectrum resistance to different PRSV strains from Taiwan, Hawaii, Thailand, and Mexico under greenhouse conditions. The selected clone TN-2 #1, with excellent horticultural traits, also showed complete resistance to PRSV under field conditions. BACKGROUND: Cerebral examination via CTA is always the first choice for patients with unexpected brain injury or different types of brain lesions to detect ruptured hemangiomas, vascular infarcts, or other brain tissue lesions. OBJECTIVE: This study innovated the acrylic gauge with five eccentric circles for computed tomography angiography (CTA) analysis to optimize the spatial resolution via Taguchi's methodology. METHODS: The customized gauge was revised from the V-shaped slit gauge and transferred into five eccentric circles' slit gauge. The gauge was assembled with another six acrylic layers to simulate the human head. Taguchi's L18 orthogonal array was adopted to optimize the spatial resolution of CTA imaging quality. In doing so, six essential factors of CTA are kVp, mAs, spiral rotation pitch, FOV, rotation time of the CT and reconstruction filter, and each factor has either two or three levels to organize into eighteen combinations to simulate the full factor combination of 486 (21 × 35 = 486) times according to Taguchi's recommendation. Three well-trained radiologists ranked the gauge's 18 CTA scanned imaging qualities according to contrast, sharpness, and spatial resolution and derived the unique fish-bone-plot of six factors for further analysis. The optimal factor combination of CTA was proven by follow-up verification and ANOVA to obtain this study's dominant or minor factor. RESULTS: The optimal factor combination of CTA was A2 (120 kVp), B3 (200 mAs), C1 (Pitch 0.6), D2 (FOV 220 mm2), E1 (rotation time 0.33 s), and F3 (Brain sharp, UC). Furthermore, deriving a quantified MDD (minimum detectable difference) to imply the spatial resolution of CTA, a semiauto profile analysis program run in MATLAB and OriginPro was recommended to evaluate the MDD and to suppress the manual error in calculation. Eventually, the derived MDDs of the conventional and optimal factor combinations of CTA were 2.35 and 2.26 mm, respectively, in this study. Background: As a prodromal stage of dementia, significant emphasis has been placed on the identification of modifiable risks of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Research has indicated a correlation between exposure to air pollution and cognitive function in older adults. However, few studies have examined such an association among the MCI population inChina. Objective: We aimed to explore the association between air pollution exposure and MCI risk from the Hubei Memory and Aging Cohort Study. Methods: We measured four pollutants from 2015 to 2018, 3 years before the cognitive assessment of the participants. Logistic regression models were employed to calculate odds ratios (ORs) to assess the relationship between air pollutants and MCI risk. Results: Among 4,205 older participants, the adjusted ORs of MCI risk for the highest quartile of PM2.5, PM10, O3, and SO2 were 1.90 (1.39, 2.62), 1.77 (1.28, 2.47), 0.56 (0.42, 0.75), and 1.18 (0.87, 1.61) respectively, compared with the lowest quartile. Stratified analyses indicated that such associations were found in both males and females, but were more significant in older participants. Conclusions: Our findings are consistent with the growing evidence suggesting that air pollution increases the risk of mild cognitive decline, which has considerable guiding significance for early intervention of dementia in the older population. This paper reports on the use of waste ceramics tiles and waste diatomite in the synthesis of a novel porous ceramics construction material (WRPC) for moisture retention. Experiments were performed to elucidate the impact of sintering temperature (1000 °C–1200 °C) and the proportion of waste ceramics tiles (0 %–40 %) on mechanical properties and water absorption performance. The crystalline phases and constituent minerals were identified using X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The proportion of waste ceramic material in the mix was positively correlated with volume shrinkage and inversely correlated with porosity. Sintering temperature was positively correlated with density and compressive strength, and negatively correlated with porosity and water absorption capacity. The primary crystal phase in the WRPC was identified as cristobalite, the intensity of which decreased with an increase in the content of material derived from waste ceramics tile. Under high heating temperatures, all of the quartz in the WRPC samples transformed into cristobalite, resulting in good chemical and thermal stability. The WRPC samples exhibited high compressive strength (>3 MPa), high water absorption capacity (>0.15 g/m2), and slow water-releasing behavior (t 1/2 = 4.1−17.3 h). This study examines two important mediating roles, namely, technology diversity (TD) and intellectual property protection, in the relationship between product innovativeness and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Based on survey data from 119 Taiwanese SMEs, EO enhances product innovativeness indirectly through TD and IP protection. In addition, market uncertainty moderates three relationships, as follows: TD/product innovativeness positively, and EO/IP protection and IP protection/product innovativeness negatively. Endogenous signals, namely nitric oxide (NO) and electrons, play a crucial role in regulating cell fate as well as the vascular and neuronal systems. Unfortunately, utilizing NO and electrical stimulation in clinical settings can be challenging due to NO's short half‐life and the invasive electrodes required for electrical stimulation. Additionally, there is a lack of tools to spatiotemporally control gas release and electrical stimulation. To address these issues, an "electromagnetic messenger" approach that employs on‐demand high‐frequency magnetic field (HFMF) to trigger NO release and electrical stimulation for restoring brain function in cases of traumatic brain injury is introduced. The system comprises a NO donor (poly(S‐nitrosoglutathione), pGSNO)‐conjugated on a gold yarn‐dynamos (GY) and embedded in an implantable silk in a microneedle. When subjected to HFMF, conductive GY induces eddy currents that stimulate the release of NO from pGSNO. This process significantly enhances neural stem cell (NSC) synapses' differentiation and growth. The combined strategy of using NO and electrical stimulation to inhibit inflammation, angiogenesis, and neuronal interrogation in traumatic brain injury is demonstrated in vivo. Background: This study used a scenario- and discussion-based approach to teach preclinical medical students the socio-philosophical aspects of psychiatry and qualitatively evaluated the learning outcomes in a medical humanities course in Taiwan. Methods: The seminar session focused on three hypothetical psychiatry cases. Students discussed the cases in groups and were guided by facilitators from multiple disciplines and professions. At the end of the semester, students submitted a narrative report comprising their reflections on the cases and discussions. The authors utilized content analysis to categorize students' narratives into three facets, namely, the philosophical, social and individual. Results: In total 163 preclinical medical students participated in the class; 150 of them mentioned the scenario-based lesson in their reports; 33.3% of these reports discussed the case at the philosophical dimension (n = 50), 45.3% at the social dimension (n = 68), and 26.6% at the individual dimension (n = 40). Four major themes emerged: (1) a psychiatric diagnosis has far-reaching consequences for an individual's life, (2) the social structure affects how patients experience psychiatric disorders, (3) students related personal experience or those of friends and family to understand psychiatric disorders, and (4) medical humanities are of particular importance in psychiatric education. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the scenario-based discussions led by a multidisciplinary team of facilitators can benefit medical students with limited clinical experience to contemplate the socio-philosophical aspects of psychiatry. Genetic variation within species is crucial for sessile species to adapt to novel environments when facing dramatic climate changes. However, the debate continues whether standing ancestral variation adaptive to current environmental variability is sufficient to guarantee future suitability. Using wild banana Musa itinerans , we investigated the relative contribution of standing ancestral variation versus new mutations to environmental adaptation and inferred their future fate. On the continental island of Taiwan, local populations immigrated from the Southeast Asian continent during the ice age and have been isolated since then. This allows the classification of genetic variants into standing ancestral variation (polymorphic in Taiwan and the continent) and new mutations (polymorphic only in Taiwan). For temperature-related variables where Taiwan is mainly within the ancestral climatic range, standing ancestral variation had a slightly stronger association than new mutations. New mutations were more important for precipitation-related variables, where northeastern Taiwan had much more winter rainfall than most of continental Southeast Asia. Upon future climate change, new mutations showed higher genetic offset in regions of abrupt transition between allele frequency and local environments, suggesting their greater spatial heterogeneity of future vulnerability. This study examines the relationship between interest rate and defunct platform risk of China's peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms. P2P lending provides an alternative funding source for individuals and micro-enterprises and offers a new investment tool for households. But the frequent collapses of many platforms were huge losses to market participants and even led to a decline in China's P2P lending industry. In this study, weekly data of 76 platforms from December 3, 2017, to October 6, 2019, are employed, and empirical research based on the normal and skew-normal panel data model respectively is conducted. Statistical indicators prove that the skew-normal panel data model is preferable to another one in modeling the data set of interest rates. The empirical results show that China's P2P market is efficient overall. But the positive correlation between the interest rate and risk is not significant for platforms with excessively high interest rates, whose interest rates are more determined by the types of ownership. This study optimized spatial resolution of mammography imaging quality using a CIRS-016A commercial line gauge and the Taguchi methodology. The line gauge with a precise line pair from 5 lp/mm to 20 lp/mm was placed on top of triangular PMMA plates to simulate the female breast undergoing mammography. Five factors: target/filter, kVp, mAs, PMMA plate thickness, and compression force, were organized into 18 groups according to the Taguchi L 1 8 orthogonal array. Tactically, the 18 various combinations of factors could provide similar confidence levels, as those following the full factorial combination in reality. Seven experienced radiology experts judged the 18 imaging qualities based on contrast, sharpness, and spatial resolution. Then the signal-to-noise ratio was calculated according to the "the larger, the better" ranking order. The optimal preset of mammography was verified from the unique fish bone plot and the follow-up analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. The optimal combination of factors was as follows: Rh/Ag as target/filter, 32 kVp, 36 mAs, a 45 mm thick PMMA plate, and a 13 daN compression force in routine diagnosis. The concurrent resolution of 6 lp/mm or about a 0.09 mm minimum detectable difference (MDD) was superior to 5 lp/mm of the conventional preset or combinations of factors of either highest Avg or lowest std. Compared to other studies with various facilities, this was the finest resolution among the routine X-ray, cardiac X-ray or computed tomography (CT), and computed tomography angiography (CTA). Direct observation of oxygen dynamics in an oxide‐based second‐order memristor can provide the valid evidence to clarify the memristive mechanism, however, which is still limited for now. In this study, the migration and diffusion of oxygen ions in the region of Pt/WO3‐x Schottky interface are observed in the WO3‐x second‐order memristor by using the technique of in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the electron energy loss spectroscopy. Interestingly, the coexistence of memristive and memcapacitive switching can be implemented in this memristor. Combined with the analysis of depth‐profile X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), an interface‐barrier‐modulation second‐order memristive model is proposed based on the above results. Notably, temporally correlative oxygen dynamics in the memristor offers the platform to integrate signals from multiple inputs, enabling the realization of the dendritic functions of synchronous and asynchronous integration for the application of logic operations with fault‐tolerance capability and associative learning. These findings provide the experimental evidence to in‐depth understanding of oxygen dynamics and switching mechanism in second‐order memristor, which can support the optimization of memristive performance and the achievement of biorealistic synaptic functions. Repair and regeneration of vascular tissue is a crucial current research focus in the fields of biomedical engineering and regenerative medicine. Numerous studies revealed that cells are required to grow on an appropriate extracellular matrix to maintain or enhance functionality. In the present study, various surface modification methods were evaluated to fix fibronectin on the surface of a bio-based and aligned poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) film for vascular tissue engineering. After chemical modification, the properties of the fibronectin-fixed PHBV films were examined and compared with the original films, including -NH2 group expression, contact angle, mechanical properties, and fibronectin binding amount. Then, cytotoxicity and biocompatibility were measured by culture with L929 cells and endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) of the fibronectin-fixed PHBV films. In addition, cell morphology, cell growth kinetics, acetylated low-density lipoprotein uptake ability, lectin binding ability and specific gene expressions of cultured EPCs on fibronectin-fixed PHBV films were also analyzed. Taken together, our data demonstrated that the surface of the aligned PHBV films could be successfully modified to immobilize fibronectin. Importantly, EPCs cultured on the fibronectin-fixed PHBV films showed excellent cell biocompatibility, a rapid proliferation rate, an aligned growth direction and correct cell functions. Background: Introgression of the bacterial endosymbiont Wolbachia into Aedes aegypti populations is a biocontrol approach being used to reduce arbovirus transmission. This requires mass release of Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes. While releases have been conducted using a variety of techniques, egg releases, using water-soluble capsules containing mosquito eggs and larval food, offer an attractive method due to its potential to reduce onsite resource requirements. However, optimisation of this approach is required to ensure there is no detrimental impact on mosquito fitness and to promote successful Wolbachia introgression. Methods: We determined the impact of storage time and temperature on wild-type (WT) and Wolbachia-infected (wMel or wAlbB strains) Ae. aegypti eggs. Eggs were stored inside capsules over 8 weeks at 18 °C or 22 °C and hatch rate, emergence rate and Wolbachia density were determined. We next examined egg quality and Wolbachia density after exposing eggs to 4–40 °C to determine how eggs may be impacted if exposed to extreme temperatures during shipment. Results: Encapsulating eggs for 8 weeks did not negatively impact egg viability or resulting adult emergence and Wolbachia density compared to controls. When eggs were exposed to temperatures within 4–36 °C for 48 h, their viability and resulting adult Wolbachia density were maintained; however, both were significantly reduced when exposed to 40 °C. Conclusions: We describe the time and temperature limits for maintaining viability of Wolbachia-infected Ae. aegypti eggs when encapsulated or exposed to extreme temperatures. These findings could improve the efficiency of mass releases by providing transport and storage constraints to ensure only high-quality material is utilised during field releases. Metatranscriptomics allows profiling of community mRNA and rRNA transcript abundance under certain environmental conditions. However, variations in the proportion of RNA transcripts across different community size structures remain less explained, thus limiting the possible applications of metatranscriptomics in community studies. Here, we extended the assumptions of the growth‐rate hypothesis (GRH) and the metabolic theory of ecology (MTE) to validate the allometric scaling of interspecific RNA transcript (mRNA and rRNA) abundance through metatranscriptomic analysis of mock communities consisting of model organisms. The results suggest that body size imposes significant constraints on RNA transcript abundance. Interestingly, the relationship between the total mitochondrial transcript abundance (mRNA and rRNA slopes were −0.30 and −0.28, respectively) and body size aligned with the MTE assumptions with slopes close to −¼, while the nuclear transcripts displayed much steeper slopes (mRNA and rRNA slopes were −0.33 and −0.40, respectively). The assumed temperature dependence was not observed in this study. At the gene level, the allometric slopes range from 0 to −1. Overall, the above results showed that larger individuals have lesser RNA transcript abundance per tissue mass than smaller ones regardless of temperature. Analyses of field‐collected microcrustacean zooplankton samples demonstrated that the correction of size effect, using the allometric exponents derived from the model organism mock community, explains better the patterns of interspecific RNA transcripts abundance within the metatranscriptome. Background: Sorafenib (SOR) is the first line treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but resistance develops frequently. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) have been reported to affect the progression of HCC. We therefore aimed to study the role of TAMs in promoting SOR resistance. Methods: Immunofluorescence staining for the M2 marker CD204 and the cancer stem cell (CSC) markers CD44 and CD133 was performed in paired HCC and adjacent noncancerous tissues and HCC tissues stratified by response of SOR treatment. HCC/U937 coculture system and cytokines were used to induce M2 polarization for studying the effects of M2 TAMs on CSC properties and apoptotic death of HCC cells after SOR treatment. Results: Higher expression of CD204, CD44, and CD133 was observed in patients with SOR nonresponse (SNR) than in those with SOR response (SR), suggesting that SNR is positively correlated to levels of CSCs and M2 TAMs. After coculture, M2 TAMs could increase the level of CSCs but decrease SOR-induced apoptosis. Incubation of HCC cells with coculture conditioned medium increased the formation of spheres that were resistant to SOR. Furthermore, CXCL1 and CXCL2 were found to be the potential paracrine factors released by M2 TAMs to upregulate SOR resistance in HCC cells. Treatment with CXCL1 and CXCL2 could increase HCC CSC activity but decrease SOR-induced apoptosis by affecting BCL-2 family gene expression. Using pharmacological inhibitors, CXCR2/ERK signaling was found to be critical to CXCL1- and CXCL2-mediated SOR resistance. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) acts as the major storage site for calcium ions, which are messenger ions for intracellular signaling. Disruption of calcium ion homeostasis can significantly affect the viscosity, polarity and pH of the ER. However, it is still unclear the relationship between the viscosity changes in ER and the imbalance of calcium ion homeostasis. Herein, we developed a novel fluorescent probe, named TPA, for monitoring viscosity changes that specifically targets the endoplasmic reticulum rather than mitochondria or lysosomes. TPA probe displayed good stability, as well as high responsiveness and selectivity to viscosity. The fluorescence intensity of TPA was significantly enhanced with the increased concentration or incubation time of the stimulating agents(i.e., tunicamycin), showing high responsiveness to the viscosity changes in ER. Furthermore, the TPA probe successfully demonstrated that an increase in intracellular calcium ion concentration leads to an increase in ER viscosity, whereas a decrease in calcium ion concentration leads to a decrease viscosity in ER. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that TPA probe successfully detected the viscosity changes in ER, especially the effects of calcium ion homeostasis disruption on ER. Overall, the TPA probe represents an efficient method for studying the relationship between calcium ion homeostasis and ER viscosity. This research examines whether an alternative exchange rate policy could have mitigated Germany's recession from April 1930 to May 1932, when Heinrich Brüning was Reichskanzler of the Weimar Republic. Using an open-economy dynamic model as our analytical framework, we examine the arguments against adopting the devaluation policy. Our counterfactual analysis suggests that a widely held belief—that floating the Reichsmark would have led to high inflation—is unwarranted. Fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) are essential in supporting regeneration in skeletal muscle, but in muscle pathologies FAPs the are main source of excess extracellular matrix (ECM) resulting in fibrosis. Fibrotic ECM has altered mechanical and architectural properties, but the feedback onto FAPs of stiffness or ECM properties is largely unknown. In this study, FAPs' sensitivity to their ECM substrate was assessed using collagen coated polyacrylamide to control substrate stiffness and collagen hydrogels to engineer concentration, crosslinking, fibril size, and alignment. FAPs on substrates of fibrotic stiffnesses had increased myofibroblast activation, depicted by αSMA expression, compared to substrates mimicking healthy muscle, which correlated strongly YAP nuclear localization. Surprisingly, fibrosis associated collagen crosslinking and larger fibril size inhibited myofibroblast activation, which was independent of YAP localization. Additionally, collagen crosslinking and larger fibril diameters were associated with decreased remodeling of the collagenous substrate as measured by second harmonic generation imaging. Inhibition of YAP activity through verteporfin reduced myofibroblast activation on stiff substrates but not substrates with altered architecture. This study is the first to demonstrate that fibrotic muscle stiffness can elicit FAP activation to myofibroblasts through YAP signaling. However, fibrotic collagen architecture actually inhibits myofibroblast activation through a YAP independent mechanism. Climate change causes environmental variation worldwide, which is one of the most serious threats to global food security. In addition, more than 2 billion people in the world are reported to suffer from serious malnutrition, referred to as 'hidden hunger.' Dependence on only a few crops could lead to the loss of genetic diversity and high fragility of crop breeding in systems adapting to global scale climate change. The exploitation of underutilized species and genetic resources, referred to as orphan crops, could be a useful approach for resolving the issue of adaptability to environmental alteration, biodiversity preservation, and improvement of nutrient quality and quantity to ensure food security. Moreover, the use of these alternative crops will help to increase the human health benefits and the income of farmers in developing countries. In this review, we highlight the potential of orphan crops, especially amaranths, for use as vegetables and health-promoting nutritional components. This review highlights promising diversified sources of amaranth germplasms, their tolerance to abiotic stresses, and their nutritional, phytochemical, and antioxidant values for vegetable purposes. Betalains (betacyanins and betaxanthins), unique antioxidant components in amaranth vegetables, are also highlighted regarding their chemodiversity across amaranth germplasms and their stability and degradation. This study prepares Fe 3 O 4 @Ag@TiO 2 (FAT) particles via a solvothermal route, then thermally treats the particles over a temperature range from 300 to 500 °C in flowing nitrogen atmosphere to form Fe 3 O 4 @Ag@TiO 2-x N x (x = 0.056 to 0.15) (FATN) core-shell composite particles. The FATN particles comprise an outermost TiO 2-x N x shell of about 20–50 nm in thickness, a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 103.2–152.5 m2/g, and a Barrett-Joyner-Halenda pore size of 12.9–30.2 nm. The particles show dye adsorption and visible-light photocatalysis against a model methylene-blue (MB) dye in water. For the FATN particles being treated at 400 °C, they show a dark adsorption of 54.8% and an additional visible-light photodegradation of 25.1% when using a dyed wastewater with an initial MB concentration of 5 × 10-6 M. This compares favorably to those being treated at other nitridation temperatures. The 500 °C-treated FATN particles yet exhibit a dark adsorption of 99.1% against the MB solution. Use of an external magnet can facilely recycle the composite particles. The recycled particles remain greater than 72% of their initial MB removal capability after use of five times. The intermediate Ag nanolayer can release Ag ions to the surrounding water medium through the mesoporous shell channel. Amaranth (Amaranthus spp.) is an underutilized crop increasing in popularity as a grain and as a leafy vegetable. It is rich in protein, minerals, and vitamins, and adapts well to a range of production systems. Currently, the lack of improved cultivars limits the use of the crop. Breeding‐improved cultivars requires access to large collections of amaranth biodiversity stored in genebanks. The task of searching such vast collections for traits of interest can be eased by generating core collections, which display the diversity of large collections in a much smaller germplasm set. The World Vegetable Center amaranth collection contains around 1,000 accessions of 13 species; among them, there are 281 accessions of four species important for use as vegetable amaranth in Africa (A. cruentus, A. hypochondriacus, A. caudatus, and A. dubius). Based on single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) marker genotype diversity, a core collection (CC) of 76 accessions, cultivars, and selections was assembled. To a large extent, it represents the diversity of the whole collection. The CC was evaluated for yield and nutritional parameters during the cool and warm seasons in Tanzania and Taiwan and a pretest for variation of drought tolerance in the CC has been performed. Cultivar Madiira 2, an improved cultivar developed for vegetable production in Africa, outperformed all other tested cultivars in terms of yield stability, but several CC accessions had higher yield, lower wilting score, and higher nutrient content than Madiira 2. This indicates the core collection can be used for further improvement of amaranth cultivars. This paper describes the hydrothermal synthesis of a pore-expanded hydroxyapatite (PE-HAp) from fine–grained calcareous sludge using a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a template and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (TMB) as a pore expander for the removal of Cu2+ ions from aqueous solutions. The PE-HAp was characterized using XRD, SEM, DTA/TGA and BET surface analysis. Adsorption behavior was assessed using Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin–Radushkevich, Temkin and Sips isotherms. In a solution with an initial Cu2+ concentration of 200 mg L-1 and a pH of 5.0, the highest Cu2+ removal efficiency was achieved using PE-HAp synthesized at a hydrothermal temperature of 180 °C at a concentration of 15 g/L over a period of 60 min. Using Langmuir isotherms, the highest single-layer adsorption capacity value was 9.90 mg g-1. Gibbs free energy (ΔG°), changes in enthalpy (ΔH°), and changes entropy change (ΔS°) revealed that the adsorption of Cu2+ on PE-HAp was spontaneous and exothermic. Modulating the active sites in atomic level is very meaningful to optimize catalyst performance but still very challenge. Herein, Pt catalysts loaded on different supports (ZSM-5, Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , CeO 2) were sulfate modified by in situ pyrolysis of (NH 4) 2 SO 4 mixed with Pt catalyst. Sulfate remarkably improves these catalyst activities for propane combustion, particularly for the sulfate modified Pt/ZSM-5 catalyst with the highest activity among them. Through controlling the amount of (NH 4) 2 SO 4 used and the loading of Pt, Pt/S atomic ratio in the sulfate modified Pt/ZSM-5 catalyst was successfully regulated. Pt/S atomic ratio significantly affects the electron transfer from Pt species to sulfate and also their interaction strength, which is decisive to the synergetic catalysis of sulfate and Pt species. The 5S-2Pt/ZSM-5 with Pt/S atomic ratio of 0.5 shows a moderate strength of sulfate and Pt species interaction, which is responsible for its highest reaction rate of 86.5 μmol·g Pt −1·s−1 at 200 °C. The geometric and electronic structure of Pt active sites plays a crucial role in determining the catalysts performance, but precise regulation remains challenging. Herein, we propose a novel approach to modulate the nature of Pt active sites by combining photo-deposition of Pt nanoparticles with ultra-low Mo loading (0.1 wt%) modification on Pt/SiO 2 catalysts. The addition of ultra-low loading Mo promoter not only effectively reduces the size of Pt particles but also donates electrons to the Pt particles. Furthermore, the photo-deposited Pt particles exhibit a higher proportion of metallic Pt species, which is more stable than that metallic Pt species obtained by H 2 reduction, compared to those prepared using traditional wetness impregnation methods. Propane oxidation activity evaluations confirm that the photo-deposited and Mo-modified Pt/0.1Mo/SiO 2 -P catalyst exhibits the highest activity among all the prepared catalysts. Combined with experiments of C 3 H 8 -TPSR and in-situ DRIFT spectra of propane oxidation, it is found that the Pt/0.1Mo/SiO 2 -P catalyst remarkably promotes propane activation and C-H bond cleavage due to the nature change of Pt active sites, and the presence of gaseous oxygen benefits propane cleavage on active sites. Mimicking Pavlovian conditioning by memristive synapse is significant to implement neuromorphic computing at the hardware level. In this work, we demonstrated the Pavlovian conditioning based on the artificial synapse architecture of one-transistor/one-resistor (1T1R), which included an AgInSbTe/α-C-based memristor as a variable resistance and an N-MOS transistor. Thanks to stable resistance switching behavior of memristor and outstanding controllability of device conductance by transistor gating of 1T1R, the experimental demonstration of the acquisition and extinction of Pavlovian conditioning were realized. Moreover, the temporal relation between the conditioned and unconditioned stimuli was also established in which the memory time of associative learning decreased with the increase in the interval of two stimuli. DNA metabarcoding is a rapid, high‐resolution tool used for biomonitoring complex zooplankton communities. However, diversity estimates derived with this approach can be biased by the co‐detection of sequences from environmental DNA (eDNA), nuclear‐encoded mitochondrial (NUMT) pseudogene contamination, and taxon‐specific PCR primer affinity differences. To avoid these methodological uncertainties, we tested the use of metatranscriptomics as an alternative approach for characterizing zooplankton communities. Specifically, we compared metatranscriptomics with PCR‐based methods using genomic (gDNA) and complementary DNA (cDNA) amplicons, and morphology‐based data for estimating species diversity and composition for both mock communities and field‐collected samples. Mock community analyses showed that the use of gDNA mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (mtCO1) amplicons inflates species richness due to the co‐detection of extra‐organismal eDNA. Significantly more amplicon sequence variants, nucleotide diversity, and indels were observed with gDNA amplicons than with cDNA, indicating the presence of putative NUMT pseudogenes. Moreover, PCR‐based methods failed to detect the most abundant species in mock communities due to priming site mismatch. Overall, metatranscriptomics provided estimates of species richness and composition that closely resembled those derived from morphological data. The use of metatranscriptomics was further tested using field‐collected samples, with the results showing consistent species diversity estimates among biological and technical replicates. Additionally, temporal zooplankton species composition changes could be monitored using different mitochondrial markers. Pharmacists play a critical role in implementing and promoting public health policies, particularly during pandemics, thanks to their exceptional skills, knowledge, expertise, and accessibility to the public. This study aimed to increase the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines in a coordinated manner to ensure equal accessibility to all Taiwanese residents. A total of 3301 health insurance special pharmacies, equivalent to 80% of all community pharmacies in Taiwan, are assisting the public in scheduling vaccines. Once pharmacists had ensured adequate vaccine availability, vaccinations were scheduled depending on the time of registration on the platform for vaccination appointments. The roll-out of this program saw a significant number of people register and receive the vaccine throughout the country, and the number of individuals who received both a first and second dose increased significantly. Community pharmacy-based distribution of the vaccine to the public signifies the novel and innovative involvement of pharmacists in government initiatives to promote public health. Objective: Dysmenorrhea is among the most common type of gynecological problem, affecting young women across the globe. This study assessed the comparative risk of stroke associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and non-NSAIDs in women with dysmenorrhea while taking into account the following factors such as age, history of pregnancy, NSAIDs uses and its duration of use, and selected comorbidities. Methodology: We used a quantitative research approach based on a comparative case-control study design. The study data was selected from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database (LHID) 2000, of the Taiwan National Health Research Institutes. Among the estimated 23.4 million insured Taiwanese, who were covered by the Taiwan health insurance system, in the 2000 registry of beneficiaries, one million individuals were randomly selected from the database. A total of 24,955 females suffering from dysmenorrhea were selected for the study. Out of those 3238 (13%) participated in the study group and 21,717 (87%) were randomly distributed into the controls group. Women in the age range, 15–49 years, who did not have any history of stroke, hysterectomy, and/or ovariectomy, were included in the study. A comparative proportional distribution analysis was used for data analysis. Results: Age and use of NSAIDs and its duration of usage were factors associated with an increased incidence of stroke. The stroke incidence rate was 12.77 per 10,000 person-years, and 1.83-fold higher in NSAIDs use cohort than in comparisons with adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of 1.47 (95% CI = 0.93–2.32). Among women with dysmenorrhea use of NSAIDs, the stroke incidence increased to 2.29-fold (aHR 95% CI = 1.36–3.84) in those use for ≧24 days per month and to 0.51-fold (aHR 95% CI = 0.13–2.10) in those use for 6–12 days per month. Conclusions: Women with dysmenorrhea who use NSAIDs have a higher risk of stroke. Especially young women, the risk of stroke is further increased, and the longer the medication, the higher the risk of stroke. Background: The collection of circRNAs mostly focused on their sequence composition such as protein/miRNA binding motif, and/or regulatory elements such as internal ribosome entry site. However, less attention was paid to subcellular localization. CircVIS aimed to provide a collection of circRNAs with information of subcellular compartments and also integrated the circRNA entries from previous circRNA databases. Results: A collection of circRNAs from public circRNA databases and de novo identification were annotated according to subcellular localizations including nucleoplasm, chromatin-associated parts, cytoplasm and polyribosome. All circRNAs were aligned to a selected major transcript, and if presence, the circRNA-derived open reading frame with annotation of functional domain were compared to its parental protein. The results showed that distinct circRNAs may exert their molecular and cellular functions in different subcellular compartments. The web service is made freely available at . The present study examined ecstasy past-year use among 7th–12th grade students (N = 38,753) in Greater Cincinnati schools. The PRIDE National Drug Use survey for grades 7–12 was administered to youth in their school classrooms. Results indicated that male students, 9th–12th grade students, non-Caucasian students, and employed students were at highest risk for ecstasy use. In addition, students with low involvement in protective factors (participation in community activities, school activities and clubs, sports, faith-based institutions, and getting good grades), parent factors, teacher factors and school factors, and high involvement in risk factors (taking part in gang activity, friend's use of drugs, access to substances, and getting into trouble at school or with the law) were more likely to use this substance. Adaptive behavior consists of conceptual, social, and practical skills and describes the ability of individuals to manage environmental demands, interact with others, and engage in activities to meet ones needs. Mastery motivation is an intrinsic characteristic that enables persistence when attempting to master a skill. Children with physical disabilities often demonstrate less effective adaptive behaviors and lower mastery motivation than their peers without disabilities, which may subsequently impact development and participation in daily activities. Therefore, it may be beneficial for pediatric rehabilitation practitioners to focus intentionally on facilitating effective adaptive behaviors in children with physical disabilities as they aim to support child development and function. This perspective paper highlights the importance of adaptive behavior for children with physical disabilities, discusses methods of assessment, and illustrates intervention principles and strategies to support the development of appropriate adaptive behaviors across childhood. Background. Sleep is recognized as an all-important physiological process, which also contributes to maintaining several bodily functions and systems. According to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), also known as the most widely used tool in the field of subjective assessment of self-perceived sleep quality, a combination of acupoints could be more effective than single acupoint treatment in improving sleep quality. Methods. The present study was based on the extracted eligible studies rooted in a previous meta-analysis that worked on the basis of association rule mining and examined the potential kernel acupoint combinations for improving sleep quality. Results. Depending on the Apriori algorithm, we summarized 26 acupoints as binary data from the 32 eligible studies based on a previous meta-analysis and analyzed them. The top 10 most frequently selected acupoints were HT7, SP6, PC6, KI1, GV20, EM5, EX-HN3, EX-HN16, KI3, and MA-TF1. Furthermore, as deduced from 21 association rules, the primary relevant rules in the combination of acupoints are (EX-HN3, EX-HN16)=>(GV20) and (HT7, KI1)=>(PC6). Conclusions. To evaluate birth outcomes in women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), we used insurance data of Taiwan to evaluate 11 adverse neonatal outcomes of infants born to women with HDP (N = 7775) and with both HDP and GDM (HDP/GDM) (N = 1946), comparing to women with neither disorder (N = 19,442), matched by age. The impacts of preeclampsia/eclampsia were also evaluated. Results showed that Caesarean section delivery was near 1.7-fold greater in the HDP/GDM and HDP groups than in comparisons. The preterm delivery rates were more than threefold greater in HDP/GDM group and HDP group than in comparisons with adjusted odds ratios (aORs) of 4.84 (95% confidence interval (CI) 4.34–5.40) and 3.92 (95% CI 3.65–4.21), respectively, followed by jaundice (aORs 2.95 (95% CI 2.63–3.33) and 1.90 (95% CI 1.76–2.06)), and small gestation age (SGA) (aORs 6.57 (95% CI 5.56–7.75) and 5.81 (95% CI 5.15–6.55)). Incidence rates of birth trauma, patent ductus arteriosus, atrial septal defect, respiratory distress syndrome, and neonatal hypoglycemia were also higher in the HDP/GDM and HDP groups than in the comparison group. Most adverse outcomes increased further in women with preeclampsia or eclampsia. In conclusion, women with HDP are at elevated risks of adverse neonatal outcomes. Risks of most adverse outcomes increase further for women with both HDP and GDM. Preeclampsia or eclampsia may also contribute to these outcomes to higher risk levels. Muscle stem cells (MuSCs) are essential for the robust regenerative capacity of skeletal muscle. However, in fibrotic environments marked by abundant collagen and altered collagen organization, the regenerative capability of MuSCs is diminished. MuSCs are sensitive to their extracellular matrix environment but their response to collagen architecture is largely unknown. The present study aimed to systematically test the effect of underlying collagen structures on MuSC functions. Collagen hydrogels were engineered with varied architectures: collagen concentration, cross linking, fibril size, and fibril alignment, and the changes were validated with second harmonic generation imaging and rheology. Proliferation and differentiation responses of primary mouse MuSCs and immortal myoblasts (C2C12s) were assessed using EdU assays and immunolabeling skeletal muscle myosin expression, respectively. Changing collagen concentration and the corresponding hydrogel stiffness did not have a significant influence on MuSC proliferation or differentiation. However, MuSC differentiation on atelocollagen gels, which do not form mature pyridinoline cross links, was increased compared with the cross-linked control. In addition, MuSCs and C2C12 myoblasts showed greater differentiation on gels with smaller collagen fibrils. Proliferation rates of C2C12 myoblasts were also higher on gels with smaller collagen fibrils, whereas MuSCs did not show a significant difference. Surprisingly, collagen alignment did not have significant effects on muscle progenitor function. This study demonstrates that MuSCs are capable of sensing their underlying extracellular matrix (ECM) structures and enhancing differentiation on substrates with less collagen cross linking or smaller collagen fibrils. The aim of this study is to assess serum human epididymis protein 4 (HE-4) levels as a biomarker for predicting the recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after catheter ablation. This was a prospective observational study that enrolled one hundred eighty-four consecutive nonvalvular AF patients (65 persistent, 119 paroxysmal) who were eligible for their first ablation. Multiple Cox proportional hazards models and Kaplan–Meier curve analyses were used to test the association between serum HE-4 levels and AF recurrence after catheter ablation. During the 12-month follow-up, we observed that 47 patients (25.5%) experienced AF recurrence. Patients were divided into tertiles of HE-4 level (T1: < 50 pmol/L; T2: ≥ 50 pmol/L). The AF recurrence rate of higher serum HE-4 level patients was significantly increased (34.6% vs 13.8%, P < 0.001). Generalized additive models were used to visually assess functional relationships between the serum HE-4 levels and the risk of AF recurrence. When stratified with serum levels as the cut-off value, Kaplan–Meier analysis showed that patients with serum HE-4 levels (> 50 pmol/L) had a significantly increased risk of AF recurrence. In addition, multivariate Cox proportional hazard modelling revealed that HE-4 (≥ 50 pmol/L) (HR 2.65; 95% CI 1.34, 5.27, P = 0.005) was independent predictors of AF recurrence. This study sought to overcome the high energy consumption of mechanical dehumidifiers by synthesizing humidity control materials using alumino-silicate raw materials extracted from stone sludge and cathode ray tube (CRT) waste panel glass. The structure of the synthesized materials matches that of Mobil Composition of Matter No. 41 (MCM-41) mesoporous molecular sieves, which was subjected to amine functionalization using (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane at various concentrations (2.5, 5, 7.5 vol.%). The resulting materials were characterized using X-ray fluorescence analysis, small angle X-ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method, and 27Al solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. Al-MCM-41 molecular sieves with 5.0% grafted amine functional groups presented high specific surface area and high pore uniformity resulting in the highest equilibrium moisture content (39.4 kg/kg). The high thermal and humidity buffer capacity of the proposed material could greatly enhance the comfort of interior spaces without the energy consumption of mechanical dehumidifiers. This paper reports on the recycling of the Ca2+ ion-rich filtrate of limestone sludge for use as a raw material in the hydrothermal synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HAp) applicable to the removal of Pb2+ ions from aqueous solutions. Samples of HAp (eco-HAp) were prepared using a range of Ca/P molar ratios (Ca/P MRs) (1, 1.67, 2.33 and 3) and hydrothermal temperatures (393–453 K). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the presence of O–H groups and PO 4 3–(ν1) groups (indicative of HAp). Transmission electron microscopy revealed the presence of elliptical surface microstructures. Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy revealed single crystal sites of inorganic phosphorus (31P) and hydroxyls (1H). The adsorption capacity of eco-HAp samples reached 476.19 mg/g within 20 min. The results of adsorption kinetics were characteristic of pseudo-second-order kinetics. Langmuir adsorption isotherms revealed that the Pb2+ adsorption capacity of ecoHAp was 277.77 mg/g, which can be attributed to a synergistic mechanism involving ion exchange, chemical precipitation, surface complexation, and dissolution/precipitation. Taken together, these results demonstrate the potential of eco-HAp as an adsorbent material with broad industrial applicability for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC) combines laser ablation and mass spectrometry to quantitate metal-conjugated primary antibodies incubated in intact tumor tissue slides. This strategy allows spatially-resolved multiplexing of dozens of simultaneous protein targets with 1μm resolution. Each slide is a spatial assay consisting of high-dimensional multivariate observations (m-dimensional feature space) collected at different spatial positions and capturing data from a single biological sample or even representative spots from multiple samples when using tissue microarrays. Often, each of these spatial assays could be characterized by several regions of interest (ROIs). To extract meaningful information from the multi-dimensional observations recorded at different ROIs across different assays, we propose to analyze such datasets using a two-step graph-based approach. We first construct for each ROI a graph representing the interactions between the m covariates and compute an m dimensional vector characterizing the steady state distribution among features. We then use all these m-dimensional vectors to construct a graph between the ROIs from all assays. This second graph is subjected to a nonlinear dimension reduction analysis, retrieving the intrinsic geometric representation of the ROIs. Such a representation provides the foundation for efficient and accurate organization of the different ROIs that correlates with their phenotypes. Theoretically, we show that when the ROIs have a particular bi-modal distribution, the new representation gives rise to a better distinction between the two modalities compared to the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimator. We applied our method to predict the sensitivity to PD-1 axis blockers treatment of lung cancer subjects based on IMC data, achieving 97.3% average accuracy on two IMC datasets. This serves as empirical evidence that the graph of graphs approach enables us to integrate multiple ROIs and the intra-relationships between the features at each ROI, giving rise to an informative representation that is strongly associated with the phenotypic state of the entire image. The first step consists of extracting the steady state distribution of the random walk on the graph, which captures the mutual relations between the covariates of each ROI. We theoretically show that when the ROIs have a two-class structure, our method accentuates the distinction between the classes. Particularly, in a setting with Gaussian distribution it outperforms the MAP estimator, implying that the mutual relations between the covariates within the ROIs and spatial coordinates are well captured by the steady state distributions. We apply our method to imaging mass cytometry (IMC). Our analysis provides a representation that facilitates prediction of the sensitivity to PD-1 axis blockers treatment of lung cancer subjects. An energy-efficient memristive synapse is highly desired for the development of brain-like neurosynaptic chips. In this work, a ZnO-based memristive synapse with ultralow-power consumption was achieved by simple N-doping. The introduction of N atoms, as the acceptor, reduces the carrier concentration and greatly increases the resistance of the ZnO film. The low energy consumption, which is as low as 60 fJ per synaptic event, can be achieved in our device. Essential synaptic learning functions have been demonstrated, including excitatory postsynaptic current, paired-pulse facilitation, and experience-dependent learning behaviors. Furthermore, the device can still exhibit the synaptic performance in the bent state or even after 100 bending cycles. Purpose: The etiology of endometriosis is mostly under-explored, but abnormalities in the immune system leading to an autoimmune reaction have been suggested. The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is one of the most common autoimmune diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk of SLE in patients with endometriosis. Methods: A total of 17,779 patients with endometriosis and 17,779 controls (without endometriosis) matched by age, index year, and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) score were enrolled between 2000 and 2012. Patients were then followed until the end of 2013 using Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database, at which time participants who developed SLE were identified. Cox regression analysis was used to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of SLE incidence rate between patients with endometriosis and unaffected controls. Results: After adjusting for age, CCI score, and different treatment options, patients with endometriosis were at increased risk of SLE compared to unaffected controls (0.85 versus 0.57 per 1000 person-years, HR 1.86, 95% CI 1.36–2.53). Also, higher baseline CCI scores (CCI score 1–2 and ≥ 3 vs. 0—HR 2.33–4.98) were at increased risk of SLE. During follow-up, hormonal treatment for endometriosis could reduce the risk of SLE (short-term and long-term vs. non-use HR 0.48–0.62), while surgical treatment appeared to have a limited impact on the risk of SLE. Conclusion: Patients with endometriosis were at increased risk of SLE, and adequate hormonal treatment could reduce the risk of SLE, providing a reference for developing prevention interventions. This study proposes the inverse problem algorithm (IPA) with five risk factors applied to the semi-quantitative analysis of carotid stenosis 272 patients with suspected ischemic stroke. The IPA is known to provide a substantiated machine learning-based prediction of the expected outcomes by solving an inverse matrix of variable coefficients. In case of carotid stenosis prediction, such risk factors as patient's age, mean arterial pressure (MAP), glucose AC, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), and C-Reactive protein (CRP) were assessed for the main group of 217 patients. Their results were processed by the STATISTICA program with a customized loss function (Φ), yielding the first-order nonlinear semi-empirical formula with 16 terms. The loss function was calculated via the total mismatch between the theoretical predictions and true carotid stenosis cases (%) for all 217 patients. Thus, the carotid stenosis (%) compromised solution array [ 1 6 × 1 = 1 6 ] was optimized using 2 1 7 × 1 6 = 3 4 8 8 individual data points via the proposed algorithm. The results showed a complete regression with loss function Φ =2.3543, variance s 2 =87.46%, and correlation coefficient r 2 = 0. 9 3 5 2. The reference group of 55 more patients with the same preliminary diagnosis and symptoms was selected to validate the method predictive feasibility, which was found quite satisfactory. The decreasing order of three dominant risk factors was as follows: CRP, glucose AC, and MAP, whereas age and LDL-C weakly influenced the program computation results. The IPA showed a strong convergence by its default characteristic. Background: Pharmacists hold to their promise to foster, implement and promote the health of the population and to prevent disease, given their knowledge, skills, and proximity to the locals. The objective of this study was to foster equality and cost-effectiveness in the distribution and sale of masks to all Taiwanese citizens, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: All 6336 special community pharmacies participating in the NHI (National Health Insurance) served as mask-selling sites. Access to masks by citizens was determined and controlled, based on the weekly rationing of the number of purchasable masks per citizen and the last digit of their NHI card number. Masks were available on different weekdays for holders of cards ending with odd and even numbers, except on Sundays, when everyone was eligible to buy a mask. Results: Implementing the program has provided equal access to masks for all citizens across Taiwan. It has stabilized the pricing of masks and mitigated the public's anxiety of a perceived likely market shortage. Conclusion: The community pharmacy-based approach to the distribution of prevention face masks to citizens represents a new and innovative engagement of pharmacists in public health promotion and protection initiatives. Community pharmacies can greatly improve the efficiency, reliability, and cost-saving of the distribution of public health resources to local communities, especially in the face of an epidemic. A hybrid system that combines cavity magnonics and cavity optomechanics is proposed to facilitate the generation of long‐distance entanglement and enable one‐way steering between magnons and phonons. This configuration involves two directly coupled cavities, with one interacting with magnons and the other coupling with a mechanical oscillator (i.e., phonons). By driving the microwave cavity with a weak squeezed vacuum field generated by a flux‐driven Josephson parametric amplifier, entanglement and one‐way steering can be further enhanced. Moreover, the results demonstrate that magnon–phonon entanglement and one‐way quantum steering exhibit robustness against temperature variations, which has significant implications for quantum information processing and storage. • CVs of the Pylon hs-cTnI assays were comparable with whole blood to plasma samples. • Limit of quantitation at 10% CV were 4.8 ng/l plasma and 9.4 ng/l whole blood respectively. • Pylon whole blood results correlated with plasma using Pylon and Architect hs cTnI. • Hematocrit had a negligible impact on whole blood results. High-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) assays provide high sensitivity detection of myocardial injury. Although an assay using whole blood can reduce turn-around-time and labour, hs-cTn assays using whole blood samples are novel requiring characterization of their analytical performance. The imprecision of Pylon hs-cTnI assay was evaluated with whole blood, plasma and commercial quality control samples. The limit of quantitation (LOQ) of whole blood samples and plasma were determined for the Pylon hs-cTnI assay. The correlation between the Pylon hs-cTnI assay and the Abbott Architect hs-cTnI assay was evaluated using whole blood samples and plasma. The average concentrations of pooled patient plasma were 8.3, 15.0 and 396.9 ng/l, while the corresponding CVs of repeatability and within-laboratory CVs were calculated respectively as 7.6% and 9.9%, 4.3% and 4.5%, and 3.3% and 4.5%. LOQ (20% CV) was 1.2 ng/l in plasma and 2.0 ng/l in whole blood. The lowest concentrations to reach 10% CV were 4.8 ng/l with plasma and 9.4 ng/l with whole blood. Quantification of whole blood and corresponding plasma samples correlated with no effect by hematocrits ranging from 25 to 44%. Background: Stimulation of trigeminovascular pathway is widely used to establish the headache animal model. Headache is a common neurological disorder, in which symptomatic attacks are mediated by calcitonin-gene-related peptide (CGRP). CGRP is synthesized and released from the trigeminal ganglion to transmit pain signals under stimulation. On the other hand, Neuropeptide FF (NPFF) is a candidate transmitter/modulator for migraine, and stimulation of its receptor, NPFFR2, increases the expression and release of CGRP in mice sensory neurons. Here, we investigate the impact of NPFFR2 on trigeminal CGRP level in a capsaicin-induced headache mouse model. Methods: Mice were intracisternally injected with capsaicin into the cisterna magna to activate the trigeminovascular pathway and induce headache symptoms. Mice pretreated with Npffr2-shRNA or NPFFR2 knockouts were adopted to test the impact of NPFFR2 on capsaicin-induced CGRP upregulation in trigeminal ganglion. The gene silencing effect of Npffr2-shRNA in trigeminal ganglion was confirmed by real-time PCR. Trigeminal CGRP level was determined by immunofluorescence staining, and the percentage of CGRP-positive cell was calculated after setting the signal intensity threshold by Image J software. Amount of trigeminal CGRP in NPFFR2 overexpressed mice was also measured by CGRP ELISA. Findings: Infusion of capsaicin into the cisterna magna upregulated the CGRP in trigeminal ganglion and induced spontaneous pain behaviors including the reduction of locomotor activity and the increase of freezing behavior. Intracisternal injection of Npffr2-shRNA reduced the mRNA of Npffr2 in trigeminal ganglion. Mice pretreatment with Npffr2-shRNA prevented capsaicin-induced CGRP upregulation in trigeminal ganglion. Similarly, CGRP upregulation was also reduced in NPFFR2 knockout mice. On the contrary, trigeminal CGRP was increased in NPFFR2 overexpressed mice. Conclusions: Reducing the level of NPFFR2 leads to the downregulation of capsaicin-induced CGRP in trigeminal ganglion, which would consequently attenuate the activation of trigeminovascular pathway. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. Previous studies have shown that inflammatory chemokines are involved in the physiological functions of cytoskeletal reorganization, cell migration, adhesion and immune responses. However, in the past decade, there have been studies showing that inflammatory chemokines play a key role in CVD. Importantly, CXC motif chemokine ligand 2 (CXCL2) has been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. CXCL2 exerts its effects on the cardiovascular system by mediating inflammatory responses, but the specific signaling pathways by which CXCL2 exerts its effects in CVD remain unknown and need to be further investigated. This review aims to investigate the expression changes of CXCL2 in acute myocardial infarction (AMI), atherosclerosis (AS), obesity, diabetes and ischemic stroke (IS) and its potential key role in cardiovascular disease in order to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Based on provincial panel data observed over the 2005–2014 period, we analyze the impacts of transportation infrastructure investments on inventory levels in China's manufacturing sector. Our results indicate that transportation infrastructure investments do not reduce inventory levels in the manufacturing sector in China. This conclusion is different from the results in the previous literature, which demonstrate positive effects of transportation investments on reducing inventory levels. The difference can be partly explained by the ongoing inland shift of industry and geographic market expansion in China, which lead to longer transportation distances and longer lead times from suppliers to customers. We also find that road investments have spatial spillover effects overall, and the impacts of different types of road investments differ significantly from each other. Railway investments, however, do not have spatial spillover effects. Finally, we present several policy implications of transportation infrastructure investments, inland shifts of industry, and geographic market expansion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A five-compartmental biokinetic model of I-131 radioiodine based on in-vivo gamma camera scanning results was developed and successfully applied to nine thyroid cancer patients who were administered 1,110 MBq I-131 in capsules for the residual thyroid gland ablation. The I-131 solution activity among internal organs was analyzed via the revised biokinetic model of iodine recommended by the ICRP-30 and -56 reports. Accordingly, a five-compartmental (stomach, body fluid, thyroid, whole body, and excretion) model was established to simulate the metabolic mechanism of I-131 in thyroid cancer patients, whereas the respective four simultaneous differential equations were solved via a self-developed program run in MATLAB. This made it possible to provide a close correlation between MATLAB simulation results and empirical data. The latter data were collected through in-vivo gamma camera scans of nine patients obtained after 1, 4, 24, 48, 72, and 168 hours after radioactive I-131 administration. The average biological half-life values for the stomach, body fluid, thyroid, and whole body of thyroid cancer patients under study were 0.54±0.32, 12.6±1.8, 42.8±5.1, and 12.6±1.8 h, respectively. The corresponding branching ratios I12, I23, I25, I34, I42, and I45 as denoted in the biokinetic model of iodine were 1.0, 0.21±0.14, 0.79±0.14, 1.0, 0.1, and 0.9, respectively. The average values of the AT dimensionless index used to verify the agreement between empirical and numerical simulation results were 0.056±0.017, 0.017±0.014, 0.044±0.023, and 0.045±0.009 for the stomach, thyroid, body fluid + whole body, and total, respectively.
