The purpose of this study is to explore a theoretical idea in relation to a body of empirical material from a reading activity involving a picturebook on shadow. The theoretical idea, sprung from variation theory, entails children's discernment through synchronic simultaneity as a key to their ability to imagine. To explore this idea, an analysis has been conducted on how 5-year-olds, in words and actions, express themselves in a reading activity involving The Black Rabbit (Leathers, 2014) in regard to discerning and imagining about shadow as a light phenomenon. Vygotsky describes children's previous experiences as a key to their ability to imagine. The results of this study imply that children's discernment in the moment, with synchronic simultaneity, appears to be another key that unlocks their ability to imagine explicit depictions in a picturebook. The results also show that when children's discernment with both synchronic and diachronic simultaneity (i.e., discernment in the moment and before the moment) is missing, their ability to imagine remains untapped, as none of the keys to their imagination, which might unlock their ability to imagine implicit depictions in a picturebook, are used. In order to achieve batch production, we propose a simple and fast method to prepare leather-finished plywood. In this study, ethylene–vinyl acetate was selected as the intermediate layer to prepare EVA/polyurethane (PU) leather composites. ESEM, tensile property test and compressive property test were used to characterize the microstructure and physical-mechanical properties of the composites. The response surface method (RSM) was also used to explore the relationship between hot pressing temperature, hot pressing pressure and hot pressing time. The significance of the factors and the interactions between the two factors were determined by ANOVA, with the most significant effect being that of the temperature. The theoretical optimal hot pressing process conditions were calculated by the regression equation as a temperature of 124.4 °C, a time of 200 s and a pressure of 1.3 MPa. The surface bond strength of the test specimen measured under this condition was 1.89 MPa, it has good finishing properties and the impregnation peel strength and surface bond strength met the requirements of GB/T 15104-2021. Quantifying the degree of deterioration is crucial for developing prevention strategies for archaeological leather. In this work, the morphology, chemical compositions, and physical properties of artificially aged leather samples were analyzed using a series of test methods to determine non-destructive or micro-destructive technologies for quantifying the degree of deterioration in archaeological leather. Results show that the hydroxyproline (Hyp) content of leather decreases with the increase of deterioration degree because deterioration leads to the gradual destruction of the collagen fiber network of leather. Moreover, the Hyp content of leather can be micro-destructively determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. For a long time, the leather industry has considered the chromium tanning process to be the easiest and fastest way to treat raw hides and transform them into valuable products. In the last few decades, increasing attention has been paid to the potential oxidation of the trivalent chromium in tanned leather. This happens for many reasons, such as the quality of the tanning agent or the adoption of good manufacturing practices. Anyway, the main problem, which is difficult to solve, is the sensibility of the free residual chromium tanned leather, which is high enough for possible harmful activity. Given this scenario, this work proposes a solution to decrease hexavalent chromium formation by using antioxidants during the leather tanning process. In this regard, a screening work was started, to find the worst-case scenario for trivalent chromium oxidation. To do this, commercial tanning products were employed, especially fatliquoring agents, which, in some cases, are the main source that could easily react with ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) to drive chromium oxidation. After the determination of conditions, different groups of common antioxidants were tested to analyse the antioxidation performances and their possible use in the chromium-based tanning process. Fruit leathers are convenient, delicious and sophisticated alternatives to natural fruits as a source of nutrients, fibers and bioactive compounds. The present study was conducted to develop new fruit leathers by adding 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% wild bilberry (BIPP) and blackcurrant (BCPP) pomace powders in pear leather manufactured with honey (5%), pectin (1%) and lemon juice (2.5%) as additional ingredients. The CIEL*a*b* color parameters, titratable acidity, total phenolics content, total anthocyanins content and DPPH radical scavenging activity were determined in the fruit leathers. In addition, the puncturing force, flexibility and adhesiveness of the fruit leathers were measured and sensory analysis was conducted. The results showed that the addition of pomace powders significantly decreased the lightness, chroma and hue angle and increased the titratable acidity of the fruit leathers while a* values decreased in the leathers with BIPP addition. Flexibility slightly decreased while adhesiveness significantly increased with increasing BIPP and BCPP addition level, changes that were perceived as negative in the sensory analysis. The total phenolic content increased by 2.03, 3.26 and 4.45 times at 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% BIPP addition, respectively, while only by 1.22, 1.42 and 1.60 times at the same levels of BCPP addition. This research concentrates on the developmemnt of sustainable formulation of an environmentally friendly structural composite using an innovative approach, incorporating recycled materials. The primary aim of this research is to utilize the industrial wastes as re-circulated input to make structural materials without using new raw materials. Waste plastic, tanned waste leather, and waste glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) additives. The fabrication employs the hand layup method, and the composite undergoes comprehensive characterization following ASTM standards. According to the results, the composite designation "D" emerged as the most mechanically robust, with a tensile strength of 142 MPa, flexural strength of 195 MPa, compression strength of 156 MPa, interlaminar shear strength of 45 MPa, rail shear strength of 31 MPa, and an impact energy of 4.94 J. Concerning creep behavior, the "E" designation demonstrates minimal creep strain, recording values of 0.0057, 0.0076, and 0.0123 for 5000 s, 10000 s, and 15000 s time frame, respectively. This indicated the addition of 5 vol. % of GFRP additives improved the load-bearing effect. In terms of flammability, the "E" designation exhibits noteworthy flame resistance, with a low flame propagation speed of 10.83 mm/min. Additionally, the "E" designation demonstrates stable hydrophobic behavior, revealing a minimal water absorption percentage of 0.001. This study showcases the potential of the developed composite, emphasizing its mechanical strength, resistance to creep, flame retardancy, and hydrophobic properties, positioning it as an environmentally responsible and versatile material for diverse applications. Pestil, also known as fruit leather, has emerged as a promising non‐dairy carrier for probiotics, utilizing apricots and incorporating probiotics into its formulation. This study aimed to develop a healthy snack bar by incorporating three distinct strains of probiotic bacteria, both in free and encapsulated forms, into the recipe of apricot leather. The physicochemical, bioactive, microbiological, and textural attributes of the resulting apricot pestils were evaluated over a 120‐day storage period. Fluctuations in pH (4.74–4.97) were observed during storage, whereas water activity (0.31–0.45) and moisture content (8.05%–13.40%) exhibited a decreasing trend over time. Incorporating free or encapsulated bacteria resulted in a darker surface, attributed to the intermolecular interactions between probiotics and the pestil matrix. The initial total phenolic content was highest and declined significantly during storage (52.13–291.73 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g) (p < 0.05). Viability was found to be higher in the encapsulated forms of bacteria at the conclusion of the storage period. Overall, apricot pestil emerged as a promising matrix for viable probiotics, facilitating their delivery and hosting in both free and encapsulated forms during storage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Leather has been a significant source of chromium (Cr) allergy in Denmark since the 1990s. More recently, cobalt (Co) allergy has been identified in leather as a source of allergic contact dermatitis. Objectives: To measure Cr and Co levels in Danish leather goods. Methods: A total of 87 leather samples were collected, all tanned in Europe. Handheld X‐ray fluorescence (XRF) device was used to screen for the presence of Cr and Co. The 20 leather samples with the highest concentrations of Co and Co were tested using International Organization for Standardization (ISO)‐standards. Results: XRF analysis showed Cr in 78/87 (83.9%) samples and Co in 52/87 (59.7%), with average concentrations of 41 mg/kg (range: 0.0–77 mg/kg) and 0.22 mg/kg (range: 0.0–2.9 mg/kg), respectively. ISO 10195 and 17 075–1 testing identified Cr (VI) in 7 out of 20 samples (1.4; 0.3–4.2 mg/kg), while ISO 17072‐1 detected Co in 6 of 20 samples, averaging 3.95 mg/kg (range: 0.22–7.9 mg/kg). Conclusion: Most leather samples contained Cr, which was expected, while Cr (VI) was detectable in seven out of twenty tested samples but only detected in one product above the regulatory limit of 3 mg/kg. Global demand for the water monitor's skin, Varanus salvator, has made it a valuable wildlife commodity. Leathercraft manufacturing must consider not only beauty but also the strength and flexibility of the leather, which is determined by its structure in the skin. Therefore, this study analyzed and evaluated the fiber type characteristic of the water monitor's skin. Skin samples were collected from 10 Sumatra water monitors with a Snout-Vent Length size of 39-89 cm and were divided into small (39-59 cm) and large (60-89 cm) groups. The skins from the dorsocervical, lumbosacral, and ventral regions were proceeded for histological sections. Histochemical approaches utilized were Hematoxylin Eosin, Picrosirius Red, and Elastin Verhoeff's Hematoxylin staining methods. Thick fibers are the main component in the skin, ranging from 69-73%, respectively, while thin fibers varied greatly and were observed predominantly in the reticular dermis. Fiber size in the reticular dermis of small lizards was lower than that of larger ones. Elastic fibers were observed abundantly at the border of the reticular dermis and subcutaneous layer in both small and large lizards. Moreover, the skin of the small-sized lizard also has a lower morphometric than that of a large-sized lizard, both in thickness and fiber type percentage. To achieve precise grasping and spreading of irregular sheet-like soft objects (such as leather) by robots, this study addresses several challenges, including the irregularity of leather edges and the ambiguity of feature recognition points. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes an innovative method that involves alternately grasping the lowest point twice and using planar techniques to effectively spread the leather. We improved the YOLOV8 algorithm by incorporating the BIFPN network structure and the WIOU loss function, and trained a dedicated dataset for the lowest grasping points and planar grasping points, thereby achieving high-precision recognition. Additionally, we determined the optimal posture for grasping the lowest point and constructed an experimental platform, successfully conducting multiple rounds of leather grasping and spreading experiments with a success rate of 72%. A painted wooden shield from the 16th century, commonly traced back to the famous Lepanto Battle (1571), was investigated by a multi‐analytical approach to identify its manufacturing process and shed light on its cultural provenance. The typology is coherent with both the Christian and Ottoman armies and does not allow for an attribution. Radiocarbon dated the shield to two time intervals (1470–1525, 1580–1625, at 68% level of probability), compatible with the date of the Battle of Lepanto. Optical and Scanning Electron Microscopy, Attenuated Total Reflectance, External Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared, micro‐Raman and Energy Dispersive X‐ray Spectroscopy, and histochemical and shrinking temperature tests were used to characterize the artefact. The shield resulted to be made of softwood panels, covered by a stratigraphy of flax fibres, cattle skin, and a painting preparation layer of hydromagnesite. Adhesion was ensured by bone glue. Oblique, red, and cinnabar stripes alternating on the white preparation are visible on the front of the shield, whereas a homogeneous dark paint covers the back. None of the raw materials was informative by themselves, but the unusual presence of the hydromagnesite could be crossed with the geographical context, resulting in a promising outcome for future isotopic and trace element studies. Releasing of large volumes of leather scraps wastes from different leather, footwear, and leather goods industries has become a major environmental pollution concern now a days in developing countries. Natural nanofibers are widely used as prospective reinforcement materials in formulation of different biocomposites materials. Herein, a new nanocomposite material has been synthesized and characterized using leather scraps wastes and Slender amaranth based nano-cellulose with latex in a clean environment perspective. Nano-cellulose was extracted from Slender amaranth vegetable wastes as natural fiber for green composites preparation. The extracted nanofibers, leather waste composite, and the resulting nanocomposite material have been characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Different physio-mechanical characteristics of nanocomposite were evaluated which showed its potential applications as shoe upper components. The results revealed that addition of nano-cellulose significantly improved the physical properties of new composite sheet. SEM images revealed the surface morphology of nanocomposite which was observed to be predominantly homogenous with uniform distribution of particles. This novel nanocomposite exhibits different potential properties and TGA data showed higher thermal stability of this material in comparison to those obtained with control method. It can find application as a green reinforcement material in the preparation of different leather goods with improved mechanical properties and thermal stability. These significant findings highlight the preparation of a valuable biocomposite material from leather solid wastes which is cost effective and sustainable for leather industries as well as it emphasizes an effective approach to reduce environmental pollution. Polyurethane acrylates (PUA) are commonly used as leather finishing agents because of their excellent film-forming, mechanical and abrasion resistance properties. In this study, silicone-modified polyether-based waterborne polyurethane acrylate (WPUA) was synthesized as an environmentally friendly leather finishing agent. The effects of different soft segments on the properties of WPUA were investigated by tensile strength, water absorption, thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), and water contact angle tests. The results showed that the WPUA synthesized with PTMG 2000 as the soft segment had higher elongation at break, lower water absorption, and a larger water contact angle. The effect of different mass percentages of silicone on the properties ofpolytetramethylene oxide (WPUA) was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), particle size, zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), water contact angle, folding resistance, and mechanical properties. It was found that the hydrophobic, tensile, and folding resistance properties of the waterborne leather finishing agent were best when the silicone content was 5 wt%. What's more, the synthesized silicone-modified polyether-type waterborne polyurethanes, with excellent comprehensive performance, have great potential for industrial application in leather finishing agents. The aim of this study is the determination some quality parameters of grape and mulberry pestils (leathers) sold in Elazig. For this purpose, a total of 45 fruit pestil samples, of which 23 were grape pestils and 22 were mulberry pestils, were analyzed for their physical properties, chemical properties, and microbiological characteristics. In grape and mulberry pestils, the average L* (lightness/darkness) values were 42.72 and 44.81, a* (redness) values were 10.29 and 9.07, and b* (yellow) values were 20.90 and 20.90, respectively. In grape and mulberry fruit pestil samples, the thickness values were 1.62 and 1.34, pH values were 3.82 and 4.75, acidity values (as citric acid) were 0.63 and 0.22%, aw values were 0.602 and 0.627, dry matter values were 68.78% and 72.99 %, ash values were 2.25% and 0.64%, insoluble ash values in 10% HCl were 0.20 and 0.29, and Brix values were 18.83 and 19.36, respectively. TMAB, coliform, Staphylococcus-Micrococcus, and yeast-mold counts were found to be 4.72 and 4.48, 1.30 and 1.89, 2.11 and 2.12, and 2.04 and 2.11 log10 cfu/g, respectively, in all samples examined. In 14 of the samples (31.11%), the total number of mesophilic aerobic microorganisms was found to be >5 log10 cfu/g. Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. were not found in any of the samples. However, the samples were found to contain significant levels of yeast-mold. There was no difference between the groups in microbiological terms in statistical analysis (P > 0.05). According to the current study, there was no standard production and not enough hygiene rules were observed in the pestil production process in family businesses in Elazig. On the other hand, essential information was obtained on some physical, chemical and microbiological quality parameters of grape and blackberry pulps sold in markets and stores in Elazig. AbstractLeather finishing provides an esthetic look to the leather. Oil in combination with wax emulsion in the form of oleogel when applied to leather finishing produces a special class of leather known as crunch leather. Using an optimized ratio of Beeswax emulsion blended with Neat’s-foot oil in the form of oleogel for the making of crunch leather was investigated in this study. The chemical characterizations such as FTIR, dynamic light scattering, and particle size analysis, of the experimental emulsion were carried out. The experimental leathers undergo various tests such as contact angle measurements, optical microscopy imaging, color measurement, light fastness, fastness to dry and wet rub, tensile, tear strength, and elongation at break. The experimental leathers were showing better results than the control leathers. The present work focuses on the finishing of leather, and the interaction of oil and wax oleogel with leather which approaches a sustainable and eco-friendly process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to estimate heritability and genetic correlations, first among behavioural responses of juvenile South African Black ostriches towards humans and secondly with slaughter weight and skin traits.2. Behavioural traits, such as willingness of the birds to approach humans, keeping a distance from the human observer and allowing touch interactions by a human were recorded (n = 1012 birds). In addition, slaughter weight, skin size, scores for nodule size, nodule shape and the presence of hair follicles were recorded.3. Single- and multi-trait animal model analyses performed on the data using ASReml4 revealed high heritability estimates of 0.44 for allowing touch interactions and 0.48 for both willingness to approach and keeping a distance from the human observer. In addition, significant genetic correlations among behavioural response traits were estimated, ranging from −0.99 between keeping a distance and willingness to approach the human observer, to 0.87 between allowing touch interactions and willingness to approach the human observer.4. In contrast, genetic correlations of behavioural response traits with most slaughter and skin traits were low, variable, and not significant. The exception was hair follicle score, which appeared to be unfavourably correlated with key behavioural traits.5. This study suggested that the temperament of ostriches could be improved by selection of birds that demonstrate willingness to associate with humans without compromising slaughter weight or skin traits. PET/PA6, hollow, segmented-pie, microfiber nonwovens (PET/PA6 HSMNs) play an important role in a microfiber, synthetic leather base. Most of the current PET/PA6 HSMNs generally lack in hygiene performance. Moreover, there is an urgent need for the asymmetric wettability of PET/PA6 HSMNs to ensure the comfort of clothing. In this work, a novel, asymmetrically wettable, PET/PA6 HSMN with a gradient structure is proposed, which can regulate liquid adsorption and directional transport. An MOF-303 was successfully synthesized and loaded onto the PET/PA6 HSMN, which had been pre-treated with gradient hydrolysis under sulfuric acid. The droplet quickly permeated the modified PET/PA6 HSMN, and the droplet disappearance time decreased to 62.40 ms. The liquid strikethrough time of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN reached 5.16 s. The maximum adsorption capacity of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN was 68.161 mg/g, which was improved by 122.83%. In addition, the air permeability of the pre-treated PET/PA6 HSMN increased from 308.70 mm/s to 469.97 mm/s, with the sulfuric acid concentrations increasing from 0% to 20%, and the air permeability of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN decreased gradually from 247.37 mm/s to 161.50 mm/s. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN treated with sulfuric acid and MOF-303 was also obviously enhanced compared with the PET/PA6 HSMN treated with pure sulfuric acid. This PET/PA6 HSMN, with asymmetric wettability, owing to its high hygiene performance and water transport capabilities, is promising and able to extend the application of a microfiber synthetic leather base for clothing. Tefillin are Jewish ritual artifacts consisting of leather cases, containing inscribed slips, which are affixed with leather straps to the body of the tefillin practitioner. According to current Jewish ritual law, the tefillin cases and straps are to be colored black. The present study examines seventeen ancient tefillin cases discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls in caves in the Judean Desert. All seventeen cases display grain surfaces with a very dark, nearly black appearance. We start with a hypothesis that the cases were intentionally colored black in antiquity using either a carbon-based or iron-gall-based paint or dye. The aim of this study is to test this hypothesis by subjecting these tefillin cases to a battery of examinations to assess the presence of carbon and iron used as pigments, and of organic materials which may have been used as binding agents in a paint. The tests deployed are: (1) macroscopic and microscopic analyses; (2) multispectral imaging using infrared wavelengths; (3) Raman spectroscopy; (4) Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR); and (5) scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy. The results of these tests found no traces of carbon-based or iron-gall-based pigments, nor of organic compounds which may have served as binders in a paint. These results suggest that our posited hypothesis is unlikely. Instead, results of the SEM examination suggest it more likely that the black color on the surfaces of the tefillin cases is the result of natural degradation of the leather through gelatinization. The Judean Desert tefillin likely represent tefillin practices prior to when the rabbinic prescription on blackening tefillin was widely practiced. The fragility and weakness of historical, archaeological, and heritage leather artifacts in museums, and libraries due to unsuitable environmental conditions are significant challenges. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Hydroxypropyl Beta Cyclodextrin, a novel material, in consolidating leather artifacts by examining their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. Vegetable-tanned leather samples were treated with different concentrations of Hydroxypropyl Beta Cyclodextrin and subjected to artificial heat aging. Evaluation methods included digital and scanning electron microscopy, contact angle measurements, mechanical testing, color analysis, pH measurement, and Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Results showed that Hydroxypropyl Beta Cyclodextrin at 1% and 2% concentrations improved chemical stability, surface morphology, color retention, and mechanical properties of the leather samples. The third concentration yielded less favorable outcomes. This study recommends using Hydroxypropyl Beta Cyclodextrin at 1% and 2% concentrations for consolidating historical leathers. Due to the increase in electromagnetic waves emitted by the electrical and electronic equipment surrounding us, protection from electromagnetic waves has become a very important subject. It is thereby proposed that conductive textiles and fabrics are used for protection of sensitive equipment and personnel from electromagnetic interference. Conductive textiles are considered to be a particular sub-genre of technical textiles and exhibit favourable electromagnetic shielding properties together with a list of other attributes that make them suitable for such applications. In more detail, conductive textiles exhibit light weight and low volume while being comfortable to wear, conforming to different shapes of surfaces and everyday objects (thus being easily integrated within the surrounding environment), being aesthetically appealing, etc. In this context, most of the literature-available shielding textiles or fabrics used are either conventional or conductive fabrics that are further coated with metal layers for extra conductivity and shielding. However, metal shielding exhibits certain disadvantages: it is prone to corrosion while corrosion-resistant materials (such as silver or gold) are extremely expensive; it is difficult to process; and it compromises the comfortability and aesthetic appeal of the final product. Herein, we propose the usage of electrically conductive leather for efficient shielding from electromagnetic interference. The motivation for this work is twofold: first, leather materials are seldom if not at all used for electromagnetic shielding and we wanted to close that gap for an industry sector (leather clothes and garments) that is thriving. Second, we are using one or more layers of polypyrrole treatment (PPy) to inherit conductivity to leather surfaces. We show that PPy is sufficient treatment for inheriting very satisfactory electromagnetic shielding properties all the while maintaining the comparative advantages of a non-metal-processed fabric surface (e.g. comfortability, aesthetic appeal etc.). We demonstrate a variety of different PPy treated leather samples and illustrate that electromagnetic shielding is proportional to the number of PPy layers used for leather processing. The conventional use of chemicals worldwide in different industries has significantly increased, impacting the environment. The need to improve industrial processes led to prospects into enzymes from various sources, including microbial sources to substitute the toxic chemicals and processes with environmentally friendly processes and biodegradable waste products. Enzyme applications are notably getting more attention in medicine, agriculture, and industries, including pharmaceuticals, food, detergents, leather, and cosmetics. They are utilized in these industries to enhance durability of product, shorten process time, improve efficiency and stability, and properly manage waste. Medicine mainly uses them for diagnostic and treatment purposes, including proteases and amylases. The pharmaceutical industries explore the specificity of enzymes to bind target substrates, yielding specific and desired products via reactions, including hydrolysis, acylation, and esterifications. Waste and pathogen treatments, in addition to soil and plant improvements, are the major applications of enzymes in agriculture, employing pectinases, cellulases, and xylanases. In the food industry, amylases are used for starch degradation and dough improvement, whi le proteases are used for juice beer production clearance. The detergent industry adds enzymes to its formulations, including lipases, proteases, and cellulases, to improve stain removal by modifying fabric fibers to release dirt and soil particles. Enzymes, including proteases and lipases, are used in the leather industry for curing, soaking, dehairing, degreasing, and tanning, in addition to waste elimination. In comparison, an immobilized lipase is utilized in the cosmetic industry to produce retinoids, protein disulfide isomerase, glutathione sulfhydryl oxidase, and transglutaminase are applied in hair waving. Furthermore, developing the cost-effective technique of enzyme immobilization technology further promotes the application of enzymes in these endeavors attributed to their stability and recyclability. Thus, there is a significant improvement in research towards green and eco-friendly applications of enzymes. This review discusses how enzymes have been successfully deployed and utilized in medicine, agriculture, pharmaceutical, food, detergent, leather, and cosmetics industries. Enzymes in these industries exhibited beneficial applications, though the recyclability of the enzymes remains challenging for some endeavors. As a global research topic, leather artifacts have been studied even longer than other materials. And the archaeology and research on them is more abundant in foreign countries. The technology of leather manufacturing, an ancient craft, has a long history of development, and can be traced back to the Paleolithic Age, which is almost as long as the history of human civilization. Therefore, the study of leather artifacts and their historical development is of great significance to the restoration and protection of leather artifacts. After reviewing earlier literature and books, this paper had a preliminary understanding of the unearthed situation and status of ancient leather abroad. With further reading, it finally analyzed and summarized the unearthed leather artifacts from nearly 39 regions of five continents. The structure of this paper is composed of three aspects: the situation of foreign leather artifacts, the characteristics of cultural relics and the leather tanning techniques. Firstly, it analyzed and summarized typical archaeological sites with abundant resources such as the Austrian salt mine, Danish marsh, Rome leather factories in Europe, Asia, Africa and so on, to understand the time, burial environment and uses of unearthed leather artifacts, so as to analyze the tanning process. Europe is rich in unearthed artifacts dating back to prehistoric times, including Iron Age hide fragments from the Italian ice fields, prehistoric hide fragments of shoes from the Swiss ice fields, and more than 200 Iron Age hides from the Hallstatt salt mine in Austria. The Pazyryk tombs of the Iron Age in the Altai Mountains of Asia provide important information for understanding the natural beast art style of the Altai Mountain areas. Egyptian leather, affected by the Nubian culture in Africa, is rich in colors and materials. Through reviewing the history and development of ancient leather in many areas, this paper further analyzed the tanning process, which could provide clues and information for the protection of ancient leather artifacts. Secondly, the ages of leather artifacts were divided into Neolithic Age, Bronze and Iron Age, A.D. to the 5th century A.D., and Middle Ages, and the characteristics of leather artifacts in different ages were analyzed by taking study areas as examples. For instance, in the Neolithic period, people used the serrated edges of stones and cherts to cut animal skin, and stitched leather with bone needles, bone spurs or plant fibers. The leather that Otzi the icaman wore in the late Neolithic period was made of animal tendons sewn by plants as stitches, which confirmed the characteristics of this era. Finally, the ancient leather tanning techniques were mainly plant tanning, mineral tanning, smoke tanning and oil tanning. Through understanding the leather artifacts of 39 regions, the characteristics of ancient tanning process were analyzed and compared. The result of the tanning process depends on a number of factors, such as the type of hides (bull or cow hides), breeds (cow or sheep leather), living conditions (animals’ health condition), the quality of the raw hides, the properties of different parts of the same hide and the tannin. With the plant tanning as an example, the source of plant tannins and the differences in functional groups in tannins affect the efficiency of tanning and the properties of tanned leather. Based on the published literature on leather artifacts, this paper widely collects, collates and analyzes the distribution of foreign leather artifacts and their characteristics, and summarized four ancient leather tanning techniques. Sorting out the relevant data of leather artifacts in 39 regions and understanding the human living environment and cultural history can help further study the development of leather in the context of the times. The study of various uses of leather can enrich the development of leather tanning technology, and research on tanning technology and tannins used is of great significance for the restoration and protection of leather artifacts. The tanning process of many unearthed leather artifacts is hard to determine. Thus, the analysis of four ancient tanning processes summarized by predecessors is emphasized in this paper to compare the differences between tanning techniques. The aim is to determine the tanning method of unearthed leather artifacts with more advanced and non-destructive technology and methods and to fill the gap of tanning information of leather artifacts for the protection and restoration. The research presented here is an attempt to develop an innovative and environmentally friendly material based on bacterial nanocellulose (BNC), which will be able to replace both animal skins and synthetic polymer products. Bacterial nanocellulose becomes stiff and brittle when dried, so attempts have been made to plasticise this material so that BNC can be used in industry. The research presented here focuses on the ecological modification of bacterial nanocellulose with vegetable oils such as rapeseed oil, linseed oil, and grape seed oil. The effect of compatibilisers of a natural origin on the plasticisation process of BNC, such as chlorophyll, curcumin, and L-glutamine, was also evaluated. BNC samples were modified with rapeseed, linseed, and grapeseed oils, as well as mixtures of each of these oils with the previously mentioned additives. The modification was carried out by passing the oil, or oil mixture, through the BNC using vacuum filtration, where the BNC acted as a filter. The following tests were performed to determine the effect of the modification on the BNC: FTIR spectroscopic analysis, contact angle measurements, and static mechanical analysis. As a result of the modification, the BNC was plasticised. Rapeseed oil proved to be the best for this purpose, with the help of which a material with good strength and elasticity was obtained. The leather industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world due to the large amounts of waste following raw hide processing but also due to the high content of chemical substances present in leather waste. The main problem with chromium-tanned leather solid waste is related to the storage, due to the ability of chromium to leach into soil or water, and also owing to the high ability of trivalent chromium to oxidize to its toxic form, hexavalent chromium. The purpose of this article is to present the most current methods of chromium extraction from solid tanned leather waste in order to obtain non-polluting leather, which can constitute secondary raw material in new industrial processes. The extraction methods identified in the present study are based on acid/basic/enzymatic hydrolysis and substitution with the help of organic chelators (organic acids and organic acid salts). In addition, this study includes a comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each identified extraction method. At the same time, this study also presents alternative chromium extraction methods based on the combination of conventional extraction methods and ultrasound-assisted extraction. The progress of chrome-free tanning in tanning has made the development of its supporting polymer chemicals a hot spot. In terms of polymers, the structure of polymer chains has a significant impact on their molecular structure, directly affecting their application range and effectiveness as the leather chemicals in this process. To date, there are still few reports on the review of organic chromium-free tanning chemicals based on the structure of polymer chains. Thus, in this study, the polymer chemicals used in chrome free tanning was reviewed according to the main construction methods such as linear, branched, and cross-linked structures. In addition, the characteristics of the different configurations, the main factors affecting them and the advantages of the corresponding configurations in the preparation of chemicals for chrome-free tanning were characteristics. This study can provide theoretical supports for the development of polymer chemicals in organic chromium-free tanning systems, and further promote the transformation, upgrading, and sustainable development of the traditional leather industry. A comprehensive evaluation of collagen-based historical artifacts is crucial for the preservation and inheritance of cultural relics, necessitating interdisciplinary approaches that integrate scientific knowledge with practical expertise to develop effective conservation strategies. The present work was focused on a piece of historical leather armor housed in Turpan Museum, Xinjiang, China. SEM–EDS, XRD, ATR-FTIR, and NMR were carried out on this historical leather armor from macro and micro perspectives, mainly including morphology observation, composition analysis, structural assessment, which could provide both quantitative and qualitative insights into the deterioration of the historical leather armor. Additionally, the non-destructive sampling methods and the third-generation sequencing technology (TGS) were employed to identify a total of 13 bacterial species and 8 fungal species, and their metabolic pathways were predicted, providing guidance for preventive conservation and restoration strategies. Tanneries are increasingly focusing on environmentally friendly processes, emphasizing the concept of clean production to minimize the environmental impact. This study investigated the eco-friendly application of an α-amylase/neutral protease system (ANS) in a single-step process for unhairing, fiber opening, and bating, providing an effective alternative to the conventional complex chemical-based lime-sulfide system (LSS). A mathematical model was established using response surface methodology (RSM) to optimize the operational conditions, yielding a 0.3 wt% α-amylase/0.5 wt% neutral protease solution at 28.4 °C for 16.6 h. The effects on unhairing and fiber opening were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the effect on bating was accessed by the removal of carbohydrates and proteoglycans. The obtained leathers had comparable physical properties to their conventional counterparts, with enhanced hydrothermal shrinkage temperature and softness. In terms of environmental benefits, the optimized ANS could significantly decrease more than 90% of the chemical oxygen demand (COD), NH3–N, and Cl−, respectively, along with a 73.91% reduction in total solids (TS). Cost analysis indicated direct savings with a significant cost reduction of 30.98% of the ANS compared to that of the LSS, as well as additional indirect cost reduction through improved production efficiency and streamlined wastewater treatment processes. The use of electricity and water was reduced by 44.6% and 93.9%, respectively, which could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44.6%. This study highlighted the potential of α-amylase/neutral protease as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative in leather manufacturing that aligns with environmentally friendly practices. Clothing rationing was introduced, and the Utility Clothing Scheme aimed to provide attractive garments within the restrictions of wartime. People used creative methods to obtain fabric, such as repurposing architectural drawings and utilizing unconventional materials like coffin lining and rabbit fur. The resourcefulness extended to household items as well, with knitted washing up cloths and improvised shoelaces for hair styling. The article discusses the practice of "make do and mend" during World War II, where people repurposed and repaired clothing due to shortages and rationing. Tips and tricks for altering clothes were featured in women's magazines, and individuals were encouraged to learn sewing and repair skills through evening classes and women's organizations. Vegan leather derived from mushroom mycelium is a revolutionary technology that addresses the issues raised by bovine and synthetic leather. Jute--mycelium-based vegan leather was constructed using hessian jute fabric, natural rubber solution, and extracted polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biopolymer from Bacillus subtilis strain FPP-K isolated from fermented herbal black tea liquor waste. The bacterial strain was confirmed using 16S rRNA genomic sequencing. The structural characteristics of sustainable mycelium vegan leather were identified using FTIR, SEM, and TGA methods. To address the functional features of the developed vegan leather, solubility, swelling degree, WVP, WCA, and mechanical strength were also evaluated. Mycelium networking was further validated by micromorphological examination (SEM) of the leather sample's cross-sectional area. Jute--mycelium leather demonstrated a tensile strength of 8.62 MPa and a % elongation of 8.34, which were significantly greater than the control sample. Vegan leather displayed a strong peak in the O=H group of carbohydrates in the examination of chemical bonds. A highfrequency infrared wavelength of 1,462 cm-1 revealed the amide group of protein due to the presence of mycelium, while the absorption peak at 1,703 cm-1 in leather indicated the crosslinking of PHA. Moreover, the TGA study finalized the thermal stability of leather. The enhanced hydrophobicity and reduced swelling degree and solubility also endorsed the water resistance properties of the leather. In the present work, a novel method was provided for the identification of collagen-based cultural heritage by integrating thermokinetics and generalized master plots. The overall thermal behavior of the historical leather artifact was consistent with the newly prepared samples. The fitting of the historical leather artifact was closely aligned with the model for quebracho-tanned leather, which matched the An model at α 〈 0.5, and the F1 model at α 〉 0.5. Therefore, it was confirmed that the historical leather artifact unearthed in Turpan, Xinjiang, China, was made from condensed tannin. The reliability and applicability of this methodology in identifying collagen-based cultural heritage were further supported by FTIR and TG-FTIR-MS analyses. • A new material named Fe3O4@CS/RGO assisting with proteomics was prepared. • The species identification and craftmanship of one leather (220AD∼420AD) was explained. • The yogurt solution as tanning agent was first found in the ancient leather boots of China. The Xinjiang region of China is an important transportation hub on the Silk Road, and various types of artcrafts have been unearthed there, reflecting exchanges between Eastern and Western cultures. In this article, boots belonging to the Wei and Jin dynasties (220 CE∼420 CE) are described and provide an example of how people used local materials to fabricate and decorate leather boots. Proteomics is currently effective method. For the lower limit of detection by proteomics, the pre-treatment of samples need to be studied for the extremely trace amounts or the poor preservation conditions. A new material named Fe 3 O 4 @CS/RGO assisting with proteomics was prepared. Regarding the leather on boot, the animal species and composition of tanning agent used were determined by extracting trace collagen peptides with Fe 3 O 4 @CS/RGO, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC‒MS) and pyrolysis mass spectrometry (Py-MS). Ten collagen peptide segments were detected that were consistent with characteristic peptide segments of cattle, including protein codes A0A3Q1LZN8, P02453 and Q08E14, suggesting that the boot leather was cowhide. In addition, pyrolysis mass spectrometry was performed with the sample, and the characteristic spectrum of DL-cystine and indole was found. Unique whey protein in yogurt and milk is rich in cystine and tryptophan, which are not found in leather collagen, and the detected indole is a metabolite produced by tryptophan metabolism. Yogurt solution was previously demonstrated to be used in leather tanning agents. Many archaeological leather unearthed in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai and other places in China had been proven to the craftsmanship of tanning were different, including vegetable tanning, aluminum tanning, iron tanning, oil tanning, and the boots provided a representative example for another craftsmanship—the yogurt solution tanning. This study aims to determine the efficiency of Polyamide 6 in consolidating fragile vegetable-tanned leather artifacts. Through two proposed interaction strategies, molecular modeling calculations demonstrated how the proposed polyamide 6 structure can protect vegetable-tanned leather from deteriorating environmental conditions. The total dipole moment was calculated as a potential descriptor of structure reactivity, and all of PA6 and the two proposed interaction models reveal poor reactive behavior when compared to pristine structures, confirming its capabilities as a protective layer. Furthermore, electrostatic potential maps were created to enhance PA6′s ability to safeguard leather artifacts and transform them into neutral, non-reactive substances. It was also created new vegetable-tanned leather prototypes. Polyamide 6 was produced in various concentrations and impregnated into the aged untreated samples. The evaluation process used some physical qualities (digital and scanning electron microscopes, color change, water absorption, and water vapor permeability). All examinations and investigations revealed that 2% and 3% concentrations produced the best results, while the concentration of 5% produced the worst. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of using some polymers at different concentrations in the consolidation of vegetable-tanned leather artifacts. Design/methodology/approach: New vegetable-tanned leather samples were prepared. The consolidants used were polyacrylamide (PAM) and polymethyl methacrylate/hydroxyethyl methacrylate (MMA-HEMA). Accelerated heat aging was applied to the untreated and treated samples. Analytical techniques used were Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), digital microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), change of color and mechanical properties. Findings: The characteristic FTIR bands showed the effect of accelerated heat aging on the molecular structure of the studied samples, but treated and aged treated samples used were better than aged untreated samples. Microscopic investigations (digital and SEM), and mechanical properties proved that 2% was the best concentration for polymers used. The change in the total color difference of the treated and aged treated samples was limited. Originality/value: This study presents the important results obtained from PAM and poly(MMA-HEMA) used for the consolidation of vegetable-tanned leather artifacts. Tomato leather as a healthy alternative to traditional fruit leathers was formulated. A tray dryer with changing temperature (50, 60, and 70°C) and relative humidity (5%, 10%, and 20%) was used to achieve the best product in terms of color, water distribution, lycopene content, mechanical, and sensorial properties. Color change was the highest at 70°C due to the Maillard reaction. Lycopene content was also the highest at 70°C. Time domain‐NMR relaxometry showed that water distribution of all samples was homogeneous and similar to each other. Processing conditions affected mechanical properties significantly. The highest tensile strength was observed at 70°C, possibly due to the denatured proteins. Sensory analysis indicated better flavor development at 70°C, whereas overall acceptability of samples was higher at 50°C. The results of this study showed the main processing parameters of tomato leather with a minimal amount of ingredients, with acceptable mechanical and sensorial properties. Practical Application: Tomato leather was produced by using minimal amount of ingredients. Taste of the leather was found acceptable, as a salty snack food. The separation sheets for fruit leather are traditionally made of plastic film or wax paper, which not only leads to environmental issues but also is inconvenience to consumers. This study evaluated edible fruit leather separation sheets using food polymers, including hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) and incorporation of cranberry pomace water extract (CPE) for providing natural fruit pigment, flavor, and phenolics. HPMCCPE film was then further improved by incorporating hydrophobic compound (oleic acid, OA) and vitamin E (VE) via cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) Pickering emulsion (CNCP) for enhancing film hydrophobicity and nutritional benefit, respectively. The CNCP–HPMCCPE film exhibited reduced water vapor permeability (∼0.033 g mm/m2 d Pa) compared to HPMCCPE film (∼0.59 g mm/m2 d Pa) and had the least change in mass and moisture content when wrapping fruit leather for up to 2 weeks of ambient storage. The fruit leather wrapped by CNCP–HPMCCPE film showed lower weight change than those by films without CNCP due to low mass transfer between film and fruit leather. CNCP resulted in controlled release of VE into a food simulating solvent (ethanol). The developed colorful and edible fruit leather separation sheet satisfied the increased market demands on sustainable food packaging. Practical Application: Colorful and flavorful edible films made of edible polymers, fruit pomace water extract, and emulsified hydrophobic compounds with vitamin E were created. The films have the satisfactory performance to replace the conventional fruit leather separation sheet made of plastic or wax paper. The edible films can be eaten with packaged fruit leather for not only reducing packaging waste but also providing convenience and nutritional benefit to consumers. Stereomicroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM–EDS), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy with Attenuated Total Reflectance probe (FTIR-ATR), High Performance Liquid Chromatography with a Photodiode Array system (HPLC–PDA), X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS), and 14C dating were applied to an assemblage of textile and leather fragments that belong to the collection of the Byzantine & Christian Museum of Athens in Greece and lacked inventory information.The analyses applied, along with bibliographical research, yielded information on the materials, techniques and provenance of the find. The assemblage of finds consists of a gold thread embroidered silk satin, dyed with shellfish-purple; a gold strip-drawn wire embroidered silk tabby; a gold strip-drawn wire and red silk thread tapestry; a gold-thread embroidery on a tabby background; fragments of braided cord; and leather fragments. The material components could have been produced locally, in the area of the Byzantine Empire, though some of them indicate connections with India and/or China. The assemblage, dated between the mid AD 10th and mid eleventh century, was probably found in 1924 by Andreas Xygopoulos during the excavation of a tomb inside the church of Agia Sophia in Thessaloniki, Greece. Objectives: This study aimed to report a simple environmentally compatible method that is economically affordable for the facile biosynthesis of stable silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in corn steep liquor (CSL) nutrient using the sewage of a leather factory. Materials and Methods: The biosynthesis of AgNPs were done by reduction of AgNO3 in the sewage of leather factory as a mixed bacterial culture and corn steep liquor under anaerobic condition while protecting from light. Results: The AgNPs were found to have a characteristic absorption peak at 416 nm on the ultraviolet-visible spectrum. Characterization of AgNPs was performed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR). The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopes (TEM) images showed poly-dispersed spherical stable AgNPs with a maximum diameter of 20 nm. Moreover, the dynamic light scattering (DLS) showed that the average size of AgNPs was 15.57 nm with a zeta potential value of -19.2 mV. The synthesized nanoparticles demonstrated more antibacterial activity in opposition to gram-negative bacteria. The zone of inhibition of biosynthesized AgNPs in 1 mM concentration of AgNO3 against Escherichia coli was equal to that of gentamicin. Conclusions: The interaction of protein residues with AgNPs was identified, supporting that the proteins not only act as a reducing agent but also as a capping. Summary: Burdekin plums (BP) are the fruits of Pleiogynium timoriense (DC.) Leenh, a tree native to Australia. In this study, BP fruit leathers were developed by blending BP puree with apple puree (0%–80% levels) to make five formulations of BP fruit leathers (100BP, 80BP, 60BP, 40BP, 20BP). Physicochemical parameters and microbial stability of fruit leathers were studied during six‐month storage at ambient conditions (temperature 16–25 °C, humidity 60%–77%). Results showed that BP leathers had a water activity from 0.60 to 0.64 and moisture content from 21% to 25%, and both were stable during storage. 20BP had the highest score for all colour parameters measured and had the lowest value in hardness. Reduction in redness and chroma and an increase in hue were observed in all leathers after storage. The total content of cyanidin 3‐galactoside and cyanidin 3‐glucoside decreased from 400–1600 mg/kg DW to 100–500 mg/kg DW after processing into leathers then to 9–70 mg/kg DW after storage. A decrease in catechins was also observed after puree was processed into leather and after the 6 months of storage, whereas an increase in gallic acid, ellagic acid, quercetin 3‐glucoside, trigalloylglucose was observed particularly in 20BP. Total phenolic content (ranging from 6 to 24 mg GAE/g DW) and antioxidant capacity (ranging from 80 to 240 μmol Fe2+/g DW) remained relatively stable after processing and storage with a slight reduction in 80BP and 100BP. Fruit leathers were microbiologically safe and shelf‐stable during the 6 months of storage. Flexible La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/polyurethane (PU) coated leather composites were synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal method, with highly efficient photocatalytic degradation properties by coating the La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU emulsion onto the leather and drying it. The phase composition and optical properties of the as-prepared photocatalytic material were systematically characterized. The result revealed that La was doped in Sm2Zr2O7 successfully, and the prepared samples still possessed pyrochlore structure. The absorption edge of the prepared samples exhibited a red-shift with the increase in La doping, indicating that La doping could broaden the absorbance range of the La-doped Sm2Zr2O7 materials. The catalytic performance of La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU composite emulsion coating on the photocatalytic performance of leather was studied with Congo red solution as the target pollutant. The results showed that the best photocatalytic property was found in the 5% La-doped Sm2Zr2O7 nanomaterial at a concentration of 3 g/L. The resulting 5% La-doped Sm2Zr2O7 nanomaterial exhibited a high specific surface area of 73.5 m2/g. After 40 min of irradiation by a 450 W xenon lamp, the degradation rate of Congo red reached 93%. Moreover, after surface coating, the La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU coated leather composites showed obviously improved mechanical properties, as the tensile strength of La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU coated leather composites increased from 6.3 to 8.4 MPa. The as-prepared La-doped Sm2Zr2O7/PU coated leather composites with enhanced mechanical properties and highly efficient photocatalytic performance hold promising applications in the treatment of indoor volatile organic compounds. The evolution of Neolithic to Bronze Age settlement organization in Central Europe has revealed ditches as an important component of settlement structures. The various shapes and sizes of these features contribute to different understandings of their functions, mainly referring to ditches as elements of fortifications or ritual practices. Based on a newly discovered Copper Age feature at Kamianets-Podilskyi (Tatarysky), Ukraine, our paper contributes to the discussion on the function of ditches in their relation to prehistoric technologies. This study presents evidence on tanning techniques and technologies associated with a section of ditch belonging to the Western Trypillia culture. Due to the uniqueness of this discovery, we applied various analyses, including GIS spatial analyses, palynological, anthracological, archeozoological, malacological, and use-wear studies. The obtained results enable us to recognize the complex practices of Copper Age communities, skillfully combining technical knowledge with an understanding of environmental conditions. A big amount of vanadium is used in the industry. It is used as a vanadium carbide stabiliser in steel production. Only $ 0.5\% $ 0.5 % vanadium in an iron alloy will double the tensile strength. Vanadium salts are used in leather, ink, dye manufacturing and yellow ceramic glaze. On the other hand, vanadium pentoxide is used as a catalyst, in the chemical industry, for the production of sulphuric acid and in the petroleum refinery industry. Resolvability parameter is the most discussed topic in graph theory. This helps to reorganise a network in a unique way, sometimes in terms of atoms (metric dimension) and sometimes bound (edge metric dimension). We studied resolvability parameters of vanadium carbide network in this article i.e. metric, edge metric and partition dimension. Among these metrics resolvability defined by parameters taking a subset from the set of vertices, if it has a unique representation with all the vertices, then it is called a resolving set. The number of elements in the smallest resolving set is called the metric dimension. While the number of elements of the minimal subset of vertices taking from vertex set is called the edge metric dimension, if the representations are unique of all edges and the set is called the edge resolving set. This study can have an effect in many ways in the research, particularly, with the help of some key points such as network structure analysis, material science via material properties, graph theory applications, predictive modelling, material testing and characterisation, as well as in industrial applications. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam, valued for its mechanical and thermal properties along with cost-effectiveness, is extensively utilized across diverse industries. However, its high volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions hinder its adoption in eco-friendly synthetic leather. This study proposes a solution by optimizing the formulation design and foaming processes and achieving mechanical property enhancement via carbon-fiber-reinforced PVC composite foam (CF/PVC). The aim is to reduce PVC usage via enhancing its intrinsic properties. Systematic investigations were carried out on the impact of foaming raw materials, foaming processes, fiber content, and fiber length on the foaming performance, mechanical properties, and VOC emissions. The material formulation and process parameters were successfully optimized. Further assessment of various indicators such as the density, mechanical properties, and tear resistance of synthetic leather samples confirmed that the innovative CF/PVC foam developed in this study meets the requirements for automotive interior applications. Notably, the tensile strength and tear resistance of CF/PVC composite synthetic leather increased by 50% and 29%, respectively, compared to pure PVC, while VOC emissions decreased by 28%. It is anticipated that a more pronounced reduction in VOC emissions will be achieved in practical automotive interior leather applications when further considering the reinforcing effect of fibers, which leads to a reduction in PVC usage.
