Summary: Aspiration of gastric contents is a recognised complication during all phases of anaesthesia. The risk of this event becomes more likely with repeated attempts at tracheal intubation. There is a lack of clinical data on the effectiveness of videolaryngoscopy relative to direct laryngoscopy rapid sequence intubation in the operating theatre. We hypothesised that the use of a videolaryngoscope during rapid sequence intubation would be associated with a higher first pass tracheal intubation success rate than conventional direct laryngoscopy. In this multicentre randomised controlled trial, 1000 adult patients requiring tracheal intubation for elective, urgent or emergency surgery were allocated randomly to airway management using a McGrath™ MAC videolaryngoscope (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA) or direct laryngoscopy. Both techniques used a Macintosh blade. First‐pass tracheal intubation success was higher in patients allocated to the McGrath group (470/500, 94%) compared with those allocated to the direct laryngoscopy group (358/500, 71.6%), odds ratio (95%CI) 1.31 (1.23–1.39); p < 0.001. This advantage was observed in both trainees and consultants. Cormack and Lehane grade ≥ 3 view occurred less frequently in patients allocated to the McGrath group compared with those allocated to the direct laryngoscopy group (5/500, 1% vs. 94/500, 19%, respectively; p < 0.001). Tracheal intubation with a McGrath videolaryngoscope was associated with a lower rate of adverse events compared with direct laryngoscopy (13/500, 2.6% vs. 61/500, 12.2%, respectively; p < 0.001). Carbon-based Materials have been extensively researched for their prospect in the fields of environment and energy, especially for graphene oxide (GO). In this work, a novel sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-assisted synthesis of BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO ternary composite has been synthesized successfully by a handy hydrothermal method. Photoluminescence, Photocurrent, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, surface photovoltage and transient photovoltage measurements illustrate that construction of p-n BiOBr/Bi2WO6 heterojunction leads to the obviously enhancement of charge separation efficiency, and the photogenerated electrons trapped by GO can effectively inhibit the recombination process of photogenerated charge, resulting in the improvement of charge separation efficiency and the longer lifetime of photogenerated carriers for BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO. The characterization of structure and morphology indicate that role of GO can also improve the visible light absorption range, and the SDS-assisted synthesis can reduce the size of particle in the composite and enhances the specific surface area of the composite by regulating the particle size and agglomeration. Under optimal conditions, BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO (SDS) has the outstanding photocatalytic degradation performance and the degradation rate constants for oxytetracycline, tetracycline hydrochloride, methylene blue and rhodamine are 0.056, 0.057, 0.103 and 0.414 min−1, respectively. Notably, the degradation rate constants obtained by BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO (SDS) are more ten times higher than that of pure BiOBr and Bi2WO6. The possible mechanism of photocatalytic degradation was suggested for BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO based on the dynamic properties of photogenerated charge and reactive oxidation species results. Surprisingly, the recyclability of the BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO (SDS) composite obtained from the cyclic experiments has laid a foundation for the study of efficient and stable photocatalysts. Post-stroke cognitive impairment is a significant challenge with limited treatment options. Electroacupuncture (EA) has shown promise in improving cognitive function after stroke. Our study explores the underlying mechanism of EA in alleviating cognitive impairment through the inhibition of autophagy. We utilized a rat model of stroke induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) to evaluate the efficacy of EA. Treatment with EA was observed to markedly improve cognitive function and reduce inflammation in MCAO rats, as evidenced by decreased neurological deficit scores, shorter latencies in the water maze test, and diminished infarct volumes. EA also attenuated tissue damage in the hippocampus and lowered the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers. Although autophagy was upregulated in MCAO rats, EA treatment suppressed this process, indicated by a reduction in autophagosome formation and alteration of autophagy-related protein expression. The protective effects of EA were reversed by the autophagy activator rapamycin. EA treatment elevated the levels of microRNA (miR)-135a-5p expression, and suppression of this elevation attenuated the remedial efficacy of EA in addressing cognitive impairment and inflammation. MiR-135a-5p targeted mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)/NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) signaling to repress autophagy. EA treatment inhibits autophagy and alleviates cognitive impairment in post-stroke rats. It exerts its beneficial effects by upregulating miR-135a-5p and targeting the mTOR/NLRP3 axis. Introduction: The administration of opioids can be followed by enduring neuroplastic changes in the peripheral and central nervous systems. This remodeling can lead to opioid-induced hyperalgesia, causing an increased sensitivity to painful stimuli. The description of opioid-induced changes in the somatosensory system has seldom been described in the setting of opioid agonist therapy in the treatment of opioid use disorders, and the few existing reports provide no guidance with respect to the effect of varied doses or substances. Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess alterations of pain pathways among patients receiving opioid agonist therapy and to elucidate the dose-response relationship. Methods: This study was planned as cross-sectional in an outpatient clinic in Graz, Austria. Patients receiving opioid agonist therapy for opioid use disorders (including methadone, levomethadone, buprenorphine, and extended-release morphine) were asked to fill out a questionnaire, including the central sensitization inventory. A battery of somatosensory system assessments was then performed. Results: A total of 120 patients participated (85 men/35 women). The mean oral morphine milligram equivalent (MME) was 694 ± 249 mg/day. Our study found significant alterations in pain perception, conditioned pain modulation, and wind-up. We demonstrated a moderate dose-response relationship between high-dose opioids and markers of central sensitization. Conclusion: The present trial demonstrates the clear effects of opioid agonist therapy on the somatosensory system. Both central sensitization and descending pain modulation are negatively affected by high doses of opioids and our data elucidate a moderate dose-response relationship for these phenomena. Although robots have been widely used in a variety of fields, the idea of enabling them to perform multiple tasks in the same way that humans do remains a difficulty. To solve this, we investigate the learning from demonstration (LFD) system with our independently designed symmetrical humanoid dual-arm robot. We present a novel action feature matching algorithm. This algorithm accurately transforms human demonstration data into task models that robots can directly execute, considerably improving LFD's generalization capabilities. In our studies, we used motion capture cameras to capture human demonstration actions, which included combinations of simple actions (the action layer) and a succession of complicated operational tasks (the task layer). For the action layer data, we employed Gaussian mixture models (GMM) for processing and constructing an action primitive library. As for the task layer data, we created a "keyframe" segmentation method to transform this data into a series of action primitives and build another action primitive library. Guided by our algorithm, the robot successfully imitated complex human tasks. Results show its excellent task learning and execution, providing an effective solution for robots to learn from human demonstrations and significantly advancing robot technology. When local recurrence happens, treatment options are limited due to the frequent use of pelvic irradiation for primary cervical cancer. Reirradiation is usually contraindicated and chemotherapy is ineffective at controlling tumors located within the previously irradiated tissue, in the case of persistent or recurrent cervical cancer, pelvic exenteration (PE) is on of the few options to offer patients a radical treatment. This is the first analysis from Estonia evaluating prognostic factors associated with locally advanced cervical cancer and the potential for long-term survival with pelvic exenteration. Between 2001 and 2021, PE was performed in 25 patients with recurrent or persistent pelvic cancer after radical radiochemotherapy. Included were 22 cervical cancer and 3 vaginal cancer cases who were followed until 01 June 2022. Clinicopathological characteristics of patients were described in univariate analysis and prognostic factors were estimated with Cox proportional hazard analysis. The median age was 58 years (range 34-80). Median tumor diameter was 6 cm (range 2-14 cm). Total PE, anterior PE and PE with rectal anastomosis consisted of 44%, 36% and 20% of cases respectively. Additional vulvectomy was performed 28% of patients. The median follow-up was 92 months. The overall postoperative complication rate was 32%; the postoperative mortality rate was 0%. Median hospitalization was 16 days (range 9-34). Overall survival was as follows: 1 year 64%, 3 year 40%, 5 year 32% and 15 year 24%. In this case series, we find that even in patients with recurrent or persistent locally advanced cervical cancer, at least a quarter of patients treated with pelvic exenteration can achieve a survival of more than 15 years. PE can be performed with a low postoperative complication rate and zero mortality. PE allows significantly longer survival for patients who have exhausted other treatment modalities. High ScN fraction ScxAl1−xN has promise in important application areas including wide bandwidth RF resonators and filters, and ferroelectric devices such as non-volatile memory, but demands high crystal quality. In this work, the role of the nucleation layer (NL), ScxAl1−xN growth temperature, and strain management to preserve the wurtzite crystal structure are investigated to maximize both acoustoelectric and ferroelectric material properties for high ScN fraction ScxAl1−xN grown on SiC substrates. A 5 nm AlN nucleation layer reduces the x-ray diffraction 0002 reflection full width at half maximum (FWHM) for a Sc0.32Al0.68N film by almost a factor of 2, and reducing the growth temperature to 430 °C enables a Sc0.40Al0.60N film with a FWHM of 4100 arcsec (1.1°) while being only 150 nm thick. Grading the initial ScxAl1−xN layer from x = 0.32 to 0.40 suppresses the formation of rock-salt grain nucleation at the Sc0.40Al0.60N lower interface and reduces the anomalously oriented grain density by an order of magnitude. Increasing the total ScxAl1−xN growth thickness to 500 nm produces an average x = 0.39 ScxAl1−xN layer with a FWHM of 3190 arcsec (0.89°) and an anomalously oriented grain areal fill factor of 1.0%. These methods enable the lowest heteroepitaxial ScxAl1−xN FWHM reported for x ∼ 0.4, with layer thicknesses and defect densities appropriate for high frequency (>10 GHz) filter applications. Background: Only 55% of anterior cruciate ligament-reconstructed (ACLR) athletes return to competitive sports. This brings into question the usefulness of current return to sport (RTS) criteria. High cognitive demand of sport environment clarifies the value of incorporating neurocognitive tests when making decisions regarding the time of RTS. This preliminary study aimed to compare the neurocognitive functions between healthy controls and ACLR male athletes who passed or failed RTS criteria. Methods: A total of 45 male football players, including 15 ACLR who passed RTS criteria, 15 ACLR who did not pass, and 15 healthy controls participated in this cross-sectional study. The Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery was used to measure a battery of neurocognitive tasks, including speed of response, sustained attention, working memory, cognitive flexibility, and response inhibition. Results: The results revealed that compared with both the ACLR-passed and healthy groups, the ACLR-failed group showed greater values of 5-choice movement time (P =.02, P =.01, respectively) but lower values of stop signal reaction time (P =.03, P =.001, respectively) and proportion of successful stops variables (P =.02). In addition, compared with the healthy group, both the ACLR-failed and ACLR-passed groups indicated greater values in between errors (P <.001, P =.008, respectively) and reaction latency variables (P =.002, P =.01, respectively) but lower values of A′ (P <.001, P =.007, respectively), probability of hit (P <.001, P =.03, respectively), and percent correct trials variables (P =.006, P =.02, respectively). Conclusions: Our findings indicated deficits in neurocognitive functions in ACLR male athletes. In addition, poor performance in sustained attention, working memory, and cognitive flexibility measures observed in the ACLR-passed group highlighted the necessity for using a multimodal approach via implementation of neurocognitive measures in conjunction with the functional and muscular assessments when making RTS decisions. Heterogeneous integration of functional oxides with ultra-wide bandgap (UWBG) semiconductors is desired for the realization of novel hybrid systems applicable to a wide array of commercial electronics and defense applications. In this work, we demonstrate the growth of crystalline SrTiO3 (STO) thin films on high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) heterostructures based on an emergent UWBG semiconductor ScAlN, used as the barrier layer on a GaN channel, and determine the effects of the pre-growth chemical treatments of the ScAlN surface on resultant heterostructure properties. We investigate wet chemical cleans of ScAlN with solvents, piranha solution, UV ozone and hydrofluoric acid, and a sulfuric-phosphoric acid mix prior to STO growth, and show that the commonly used piranha solution degrades the ScAlN surface, thereby reducing the crystal quality of the deposited STO layers and lowering the channel mobility. We determine that among the treatments studied, the solvent and sulfuric-phosphoric acid cleans were the least disruptive to the electrical properties of the GaN channel as evidenced from Hall effect measurements, but the sulfuric-phosphoric acid clean results in best oxide crystallinity, as determined from structural characterizations. We perform transmission electron microscopy imaging on the piranha-treated and sulfuric-phosphoric-treated samples to compare the microstructure and find that while intermixing occurs at the oxide-nitride interfaces for both samples, the interface roughness is lower and the STO grain size is larger in the sample with sulfuric-phosphoric acid treatment. This work demonstrates the first epitaxial growth of STO on an UWBG semiconductor and motivates STO/ScAlN/GaN as material platforms for high-frequency, high-power-density HEMTs. Compared to independent drought or extreme heat events, compound drought and heat events (CDHEs) can pose more adverse impacts on ecosystems and human society. As the anthropogenic influence on CDHEs in China remains largely unquantified, we analyse both observed and simulated changes in the occurrence of CDHEs over China from 1961 to 2014, and perform detection and attribution analyses utilizing an optimal fingerprinting method, based on observations, reanalysis data and numerical experiments from seven Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) models. Upward trends are found in observed CDHEs during 1961–2014 over the majority of China, especially in the last two decades. The increase in CDHEs is largely attributed to human influence. Anthropogenic forcing is detectable in the observed CDHEs changes in the whole China and its eastern region. Furthermore, a three‐signal analysis indicates that greenhouse gases play a key role in increasing CDHEs over China, while natural forcing has a negligible effect. Anthropogenic aerosol emissions also play a detectable role in offsetting the greenhouse gas‐induced increase of CDHEs over China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Seaweed farming is the single largest aquaculture commodity with >30 million tonnes produced each year. Furthermore, the restoration of lost seaweed forests is gaining significant momentum, particularly for kelps in warming temperate areas. Whether in aquaculture settings, following restoration practices, or in the wild, all seaweeds undergo biotic interactions with a diverse range of co‐occurring or cocultured organisms. To date, most research assessing such biotic interactions has focused on the response of the organism interacting with seaweeds, rather than on the seaweeds themselves. However, understanding how seaweeds respond to other organisms, particularly on a molecular scale, is crucial for optimizing outcomes of seaweed farming or restoration efforts and, potentially, also for the conservation of natural populations. In this systematic review, we assessed the molecular processes that seaweeds undergo during biotic interactions and propose priority areas for future research. Despite some insights into the response of seaweeds to biotic interactions, this review specifically highlights a lack of characterization of biomolecules involved in the response to chemical cues derived from interacting organisms (four studies in the last 20 years) and a predominant use of laboratory‐based experiments conducted under controlled conditions. Additionally, this review reveals that studies targeting metabolites (70%) are more common than those examining the role of genes (22%) and proteins (8%). To effectively inform seaweed aquaculture efforts, it will be crucial to conduct larger scale experiments simulating natural environments. Pooled findings indicate that higher fiber higher carbohydrate diets reduced HbA1c (mean difference [MD] −0.50% [95% confidence interval −0.99 to −0.02]), fasting insulin (MD −0.99 μIU/mL [−1.83 to −0.15]), total cholesterol (MD −0.16 mmol/L [−0.27 to −0.05]) and low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD −0.16 mmol/L (−0.31 to −0.01) when compared with lower carbohydrate lower fiber diets. Trials with larger differences in fiber and carbohydrate intakes between interventions reported greater reductions. Certainty of evidence for these outcomes was moderate or high, with most outcomes downgraded due to heterogeneity unexplained by any single variable.Our predefined scope excluded trials with co‐interventions such as energy restriction, which may have provided addition information.Findings indicate the greater importance of promoting dietary fiber intakes, and the relative unimportance of carbohydrate amount in recommendations for people with diabetes. Mitochondrial genomes are highly conserved in genetic processes and serve as a useful molecular marker for phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Uroobovella oviformis was sequenced and annotated. The mitochondrial genome is a closed, double-stranded circular molecule of 14,306 bp length and contains the typical 37 genes. All of the protein-coding genes started with ATN and terminated with TAA except COX2, COX3, and CYTB, which stopped with single T. The whole mitochondrial genome of U. oviformis showed a heavy AT nucleotide bias (77.69%), a positive AT-Skew (0.035), and a negative GC-Skew (−0.320), as well as translocation of seven genes including CYTB and ND6. The phylogenetic tree was constructed by Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood methods using three different datasets (PCG, PCG12, and AA), which were constructed to discuss the phylogenetic status of Mesostigmata. The analysis showed that the branching relationships among the six trees were consistent and all families except the Laelapidae were recovered as monophyletic. AbstractGiven the need for enforceable guardrails for artificial intelligence (AI) that protect the public and allow for innovation, the U.S. Government recently issued a Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights which outlines five principles of safe AI design, use, and implementation. One in particular, the right to notice and explanation, requires accurately informing the public about the use of AI that impacts them in ways that are easy to understand. Yet, in the healthcare setting, it is unclear what goal the right to notice and explanation serves, and the moral importance of patient-level disclosure. We propose three normative functions of this right: (1) to notify patients about their care, (2) to educate patients and promote trust, and (3) to meet standards for informed consent. Additional clarity is needed to guide practices that respect the right to notice and explanation of AI in healthcare while providing meaningful benefits to patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: High-fidelity cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) imaging plays a pivotal role in the surveillance of congenital heart disease (CHD) and aortopathy. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the quality and accuracy of free breathing, ECG-gated noncontrast three-dimensional (3D) balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) in cases of CHDs and aortopathies using contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP as a reference. We also used one of our routinely used non-ECG-gated 2D-single-shot (SSh) bSSFP sequence as an adjunct to noncontrast 3D bSSFP. Materials and methods: Institutional review board approval was obtained to perform a systematic retrospective analysis of image quality and vascular measurements. Patients with CHD and aortopathy, who were undergoing clinically indicated contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP, were prospectively identified to also undergo additional noncontrast 3D bSSFP and 2D SSh bSSFP imaging as part of a clinical quality improvement initiative aimed at reducing the use of contrast when feasible. Two readers, blinded to each other's evaluations, graded image quality on a 5-point Likert scale and performed vascular measurements in separate sessions for both 3D bSSFP images. They also reported the visibility of various mediastinal great vessels on 2D SSh bSSFP images. Raw agreement, the weighted kappa statistic, and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) were computed to assess the consistency and agreement between the two readers. Comparative analysis of noncontrast and contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP imaging was performed in adult and pediatric patients using a two-sided paired t-test and Bland–Altman analysis. A P-value < 0.05 was considered significant for all inference testing. Results: A total of 29 patients (17 males, median age 20.3 years, interquartile range (IQR) 12.5, age range 7–39 years), including 11 pediatric patients under the age of 18 years (6 males, median age 14.5 years, IQR 4.0, age range 7–17 years), underwent retrospective analysis. The overall image quality score for contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP was significantly higher (P < 0.0001) than that of noncontrast 3D bSSFP for both all subjects (4.4 ± 0.2, range 4.0–4.9 vs 3.7 ± 0.4, range 3.1–4.7) and only pediatric subjects (4.3 ± 0.3, range 4.0–4.9 vs 3.6 ± 0.5, range 3.1–4.4). By combining noncontrast 3D bSSFP and 2D bSSFP, reader 1 and reader 2 rated 423 and 420 vessels diagnostic, respectively, in a total of 435 vessel segments. All landmarks showed similar mean vessel diameters without significant differences between noncontrast and contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP MR angiography (r = 0.99, bias -0.31 mm, 95% limits of agreement -2.04 mm to 1.43 mm). Conclusions: Although contrast-enhanced images had better overall image quality, an imaging protocol consisting of noncontrast 2D SSh bSSFP and 3D bSSFP whole-chest images provides diagnostically adequate image quality, and accurate vascular measurements, comparable to free-breathing contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP in both children and adults with CHD and aortopathies. This study aims to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting overall survival (OS) in Asian patients with Esophageal Cancer (EC). Data from Asian EC patients were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The patients were randomly divided into training and validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. The Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression was used for initial variable selection, followed by multivariate Cox regression analysis to identify independent prognostic factors. A nomogram was subsequently constructed based on these factors. The predictive performance of the nomogram was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves, while the clinical utility of the nomogram was assessed through decision curve analysis (DCA). The LASSO regression and multivariate Cox regression analysis identified age, sex, marital status, tumor size, M stage, surgery, and chemotherapy as independent prognostic factors. The ROC curve results demonstrated that the area under the curve (AUC) values for predicting 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year OS in the training cohort were 0.770, 0.756, and 0.783, respectively. In the validation cohort, the AUC values were 0.814, 0.763, and 0.771, respectively. Calibration curves indicated a high concordance between predicted and actual OS. The DCA demonstrated that the nomogram has significant clinical applicability. Pancreatic ribonuclease (RNase1), a digestive enzyme produced by the pancreas, is associated with the functional adaptation of dietary habits and is regarded as an attractive model system for studies of molecular evolution. In this study, we identified 218 functional genes and 48 pseudogenes from 114 species that span all four Cetartiodactyla lineages: two herbivorous lineages (Ruminantia and Tylopoda) and two non‐herbivorous lineages (Cetancodonta and Suoidea). Multiple RNase1 genes were detected in all species of the two herbivorous lineages, and phylogenetic and genomic location analyses demonstrated that independent gene duplication events occurred in Ruminantia and Tylopoda. In Ruminantia, the gene duplication events occurred in the ancestral branches of the lineage in the Middle Eocene, a time of increasing climatic seasonality during which Ruminantia rapidly radiated. In contrast, only a single RNase1 gene was observed in the species of the two non‐herbivorous lineages (Cetancodonta and Suoidea), suggesting that the previous Cetacea‐specific loss hypothesis should be rejected. Moreover, the duplicated genes of RNase1 in the two herbivorous lineages (Ruminantia and Tylopoda) may have undergone functional divergence. In combination with the temporal coincidence between gene replication and the enhanced climatic seasonality during the Middle Eocene, this functional divergence suggests that RNase1 gene duplication was beneficial for Ruminantia to use the limited quantities of sparse fibrous vegetation and adapt to seasonal changes in climate. In summary, the findings indicate a complex and intriguing evolutionary pattern of RNase1 in Cetartiodactyla and demonstrate the molecular mechanisms by which organisms adapt to the environment. With increasing age, it becomes more difficult for unemployed workers to find a new job. Due to age-related negative stereotypes, employers typically prefer younger applicants. This study analyzes a marketing campaign of a local employment agency in Germany that drew attention to the problem of negative age-related stereotypes and highlighted the high value of older workers. The goal of the campaign was to increase the hiring rate of older unemployed. Using comprehensive register data and applying a difference-in-differences approach, we find that the information conveyed through the campaign (via banners, interviews, job fairs, and informational brochures) did indeed change firms’ hiring behavior. The intervention increased the employment rate of workers aged 50 to 59 with unemployment experience by approximately 3 percentage points. The positive employment effects of the campaign appear to be somewhat more pronounced for women than for men. We conclude that an information campaign to overcome age-related negative stereotypes might be an appropriate measure to highlight the value of older workers and increase their employment chances. The addition of an oxidizer to aluminized explosives can promote the reaction of the aluminum particles to release more energy, significantly increasing the energy of the explosion. In this study, metal plate acceleration tests of CL-20-based explosives under strong constraints were performed, and the metal plate velocity was measured by laser interferometry, then the metal plate acceleration processes were simulated. By combining experiment and numerical simulation, the metal acceleration characteristics of the initial detonation stage were obtained, and the energy release and aluminum reaction law of oxidizer-containing cast cured aluminized explosives were investigated. The results showed that, in the initial stage of the detonation product expansion, the energy released from the aluminum reaction in the explosives with an oxidizer was slower than that in the explosives without an oxidizer. As the oxidizer content increased, the acceleration ability decreased, and the energy utilization rate of the explosive decreased. This may be because of the relatively low CL-20 content and high oxidizer content, where the oxidizer does not participate in the initial reaction and absorbs a large amount of the heat released by the CL-20 reaction, resulting in weak acceleration ability in the initial detonation stage of aluminized explosives. In this paper, some new lane-changing rules for one-way two-lane traffic with one work zone are proposed. Considering their velocities difference between the vehicle in the current lane and some vehicle behind/ahead in the target lane, and its own velocity, driver will choose to change lanes if necessary. Unlike some previous studies, one-way two-lane with one work zone is divided into three sections: symmetrical zone, conversion zone and work zone. In the conversion zone, the maximum velocity of vehicles in merge lane depends on the number of unsuccessful lane-changing. Based on the refined Nagel–Schreckenberg model, all vehicles update their corresponding velocities and positions in own respective lanes, employing open boundary conditions. The computer results show that the system has two states: unsaturated state and saturated state. In the saturated state, these vehicles on these two lanes have the same occupancy, which change steadily without inflection point when approaching the conversion zone, especially for upstream of the work zone. As one of the results of vehicle self-organization, the system can reach the saturated state in a short period of time as the injection probability increases. This saturated state can also spread across the conversion zone to the symmetrical zone. In the unsaturated state, one also finds that the velocity distribution can be consistent with the actual traffic conditions for upstream of the work zone. We selected three road sections with work zone to carry out field test, and the flow of these three road sections is basically consistent with the flow of the saturated state for the present model. This study presents an IoT-based gait analysis system employing insole pressure sensors to assess gait kinetics. The system integrates piezoresistive sensors within a left foot insole, with data acquisition managed using an ESP32 board that communicates via Wi-Fi through an MQTT IoT framework. In this initial protocol study, we conducted a comparative analysis using the Zeno system, supported by PKMAS as the gold standard, to explore the correlation and agreement of data obtained from the insole system. Four volunteers (two males and two females, aged 24–28, without gait disorders) participated by walking along a 10 m Zeno system path, equipped with pressure sensors, while wearing the insole system. Vertical ground reaction force (vGRF) data were collected over four gait cycles. The preliminary results indicated a strong positive correlation (r = 0.87) between the insole and the reference system measurements. A Bland–Altman analysis further demonstrated a mean difference of approximately (0.011) between the two systems, suggesting a minimal yet significant bias. These findings suggest that piezoresistive sensors may offer a promising and cost-effective solution for gait disorder assessment and monitoring. However, operational factors such as high temperatures and sensor placement within the footwear can introduce noise or unwanted signal activation. The communication framework proved functional and reliable during this protocol, with plans for future expansion to multi-device applications. Polarimetric high-resolution range profile (HRRP), with its rich polarimetric and spatial information, has become increasingly important in radar automatic target recognition (RATR). This study proposes an interpretable target-aware vision Transformer (ITAViT) for polarimetric HRRP target recognition with a novel attention loss. In ITAViT, we initially fuse the polarimetric features and the amplitude of polarimetric HRRP with a polarimetric preprocessing layer (PPL) to obtain the feature map as the input of the subsequent network. The vision Transformer (ViT) is then used as the backbone to automatically extract both local and global features. Most importantly, we introduce a novel attention loss to optimize the alignment between the attention map and the HRRP span. Thus, it can improve the difference between the target and the background, and enable the model to more effectively focus on real target areas. Experiments on a simulated X-band dataset demonstrate that our proposed ITAViT outperforms comparative models under various experimental conditions. Ablation studies highlight the effectiveness of polarimetric preprocessing and attention loss. Carbon fiber (CF)-reinforced polyamide 6 (PA6) composites have an excellent performance, attributed to properties such as light quality, high strength, and vibration reduction, and they are widely used in fields such as aerospace and transportation. Four kinds of carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide 6 (CF/PA6) composite pellets with carbon fiber contents of 20, 30, 40, and 50 wt.% were prepared using twin screw extrusion. The results were characterized using a simultaneous thermal analyzer, capillary rheometer, electronic universal material testing machine, and scanning electron microscope (SEM); their crystallization, rheological behavior, mechanical properties, surface structure, etc., were studied. DSC results indicate that an increase in carbon fiber content enhances the thermal stability of CF/PA6 and narrows the crystallization window but has a minor effect on the molecular chain diffusion time. The crystallinity reaches its maximum at a carbon fiber content of 40 wt.%, reaching 55.16%. The steady-state rheological behavior reveals that CF/PA6 behaves as a pseudoplastic fluid, exhibiting shear-thinning behavior. When the carbon fiber content is 40 wt.%, the power law exponent (n) reaches its maximum, and the consistency coefficient (K) decreases by 300 Pa ⋅ s n compared to the 30 wt.% content. With increasing temperature, n increases while K decreases. SEM observations reveal that samples with carbon fiber contents of 20 wt.% and 40 wt.% exhibit better fiber dispersion and orientation. However, the interfacial bonding strength is superior in the 40 wt.% sample. When the carbon fiber content reaches 50 wt.%, significant injection molding defects occur at the clamping end, leading to extensive matrix tearing during tension testing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph+ALL) is treated as standard of care (SoC) by imatinib-based treatment combined with induction and consolidation chemotherapy followed by allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) in first remission. The German Multicenter ALL Study Group for Adult ALL (GMALL) reports about a trial to evaluate the impact of ponatinib-based therapy, blinatumomab treatment for suboptimal responders, and the possibility of omission of SoC Allo SCT in optimal responders entitled GMALL-EVOLVE. Methods: Herein, imatinib is randomized versus ponatinib as frontline treatment combined with chemotherapy, optimal responders also get randomized between SCT and chemo-immunotherapy, and suboptimal responders receive immunotherapy before SCT. Paediatric laboratory medicine itself may be considered an emerging area of specialisation that is established relatively recently following increased appreciation and understanding of the unique physiology and healthcare needs of the children. Through four clinical (neonatal hypoglycaemia, neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia, sickle cell disorder, congenital adrenal hyperplasia) and six technological (microassays, noninvasive testing, alternative matrices, next generation sequencing, exosome analysis, machine learning) illustrations, key takeaways of application of emerging technology for each area are summarised. This article reflects on the ways researchers are affected by their engagement with the stories they encounter in research. It proposes the notion of 'research resonance' to capture the experience of living with research participants' stories, and by extension, their lives. The article draws on data collected for the 'Girlhood and Later Life' project, which investigated youth experiences and transitions to adulthood of women born between 1939 and 1952 in Britain. Reflecting on examples from a music elicitation exercise and life history narratives, the researchers on this project explore and conceptualise their experience of living with 'sociological memories'. Their accounts address how life history researchers may be challenged or affected on a personal level through their professional practice. Cadmium (Cd) contamination poses a significant threat to agriculture and human health due to its high soil mobility and toxicity. This review synthesizes current knowledge on Cd uptake, transport, detoxification, and transcriptional regulation in plants, emphasizing the roles of metal transport proteins and transcription factors (TFs). We explore transporter families like NRAMP, HMA, ZIP, ABC, and YSL in facilitating Cd movement within plant tissues, identifying potential targets for reducing Cd accumulation in crops. Additionally, regulatory TF families, including WRKY, MYB, bHLH, and ERF, are highlighted for their roles in modulating gene expression to counteract Cd toxicity. This review consolidates the existing literature on plant–Cd interactions, providing insights into established mechanisms and identifying gaps for future research. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing strategies to enhance plant tolerance, ensure food safety, and promote sustainable agriculture amidst increasing heavy-metal pollution. Cross-cultural differences in the association between neuropsychiatric symptoms and Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers are not well understood. This study aimed to (1) compare depressive symptoms and frequency of reported apathy across diagnostic groups of participants with normal cognition (CN), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementia, as well as ethnic groups of Hispanic Americans (HA) and European Americans (EA); (2) evaluate the relationship between depression and apathy with Aβ deposition and brain atrophy. Statistical analyses included ANCOVAs, chi-squared, nonparametric tests, correlations, and logistic regressions. Higher scores on the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) were reported in the MCI and dementia cohorts, while older age corresponded with lower GDS-15 scores. The frequency of apathy differed across diagnoses within each ethnicity, but not when comparing ethnic groups. Reduced volume in the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) significantly correlated with and predicted apathy for the total sample after applying false discovery rate corrections (FDR), controlling for covariates. The EA group separately demonstrated a significant negative relationship between apathy and superior frontal volume, while for HA, there was a relationship between rostral ACC volume and apathy. Endometrial carcinoma is one of most common malignant tumors in women, and ferroptosis is closely related to the development and treatment of endometrial carcinoma. The aim of this study was to screen ferroptosis-related genes associated with endometrial carcinoma and predict targeted drugs through bioinformatics. 761 differentially expressed genes were obtained by the dataset GSE63678 from the GEO database, and most of the genes were enriched in the KEGG_CELL_CYCLE and KEGG_OOCYTE_MEIOSIS signaling pathways. 22 ferroptosis-differentially expressed genes were obtained by intersection with the FerrDb database. These genes were involved in biological processes including macromolecular complex assembly and others, and involved in signal pathways including glutathione metabolism, p53 signaling pathway and others. CDKN2A, IDH1, NRAS, TFRC and GOT1 were obtained as hub genes by PPI network analysis. GEPIA showed that CDKN2A, IDH1, NRAS and TFRC were significantly expressed in endometrial carcinoma. Immunohistochemical results showed that CDKN2A, NRAS and TFRC were significantly expressed in endometrial carcinoma clinical tissue samples. The ROC constructed by TCGA database showed that CDKN2A, NRAS and TFRC had significant value in the diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma, and all had prognostic efficacy. 136,572-09-3 BOSS and others were identified as potential targeted drugs for endometrial carcinoma targeting ferroptosis. The coaxial compound helicopter has been offered as an idea for a high-performance rotorcraft that possesses high-speed qualities that conventional helicopters do not. This work seeks to create a flight dynamics model of a coaxial compound helicopter and investigate its trim, stability, and controllability. Regarding this, this study builds aerodynamic models for each component of a coaxial compound helicopter (coaxial rotor, fuselage, horizontal stabilizer, vertical stabilizer, and propeller). For coaxial rotor configuration, an equivalent flapping model, a reflected model, an inflow model taking the upper and lower rotor's impact into account, and a phased cyclic pitch model are done. A nonlinear coaxial compound helicopter mathematical model is constructed, and the trim across the entire flight envelope is carried out. The nonlinear model is linearized in order to evaluate stability and control derivatives. The World Bank assessed that meeting the goal of eradicating extreme poverty by 2030 appears to be challenging (or even impossible) for the world. This observation requires an urgent need for policymakers to explore potent instruments to combat poverty globally. Numerous studies have examined various determinants of poverty. However, financial literacy—a relatively new concept—remains underexplored, especially on a global scale. As such, this study is conducted to assess whether financial literacy can reduce the likelihood of falling into poverty using a unique dataset of 113 countries. We find that financial literacy has a significant and negative association with the likelihood of falling into poverty. Beyond association, the causal analysis shows that financial literacy exerts a negative effect on poverty. Our findings remain largely unchanged across different sub-samples based on socio-demographic factors, regions and country income levels, and robustness analyses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To construct a nursing assessment framework for patients in anaesthesia recovery period. Design: A three‐round modified Delphi method was employed to capture the consensus of 22 panellists. Methods: The initial items in the nursing assessment framework for patients in anaesthesia recovery period were developed based on the mini‐clinical evaluation exercise (mini‐CEX). A panel of 22 experts participated in this study. The panellists have more than 10 years of experience in either clinical anaesthesia, or post‐anesthesia nursing, or operating room nursing, or surgical intensive nursing. Between March and April 2023, the panellists evaluated and recommended revisions to the initial framework. Results: This study resulted in the development of a nursing assessment framework for patients in anaesthesia recovery period. The initial version of the framework consisted of six dimensions with 27 items. Six items were modified after the first round of consultation. After the second round, five modifications and four deletions were made based on expert opinion. The third round resulted in a convergence of expert opinion. The framework, which consists of 24 items across five dimensions, was refined. The five dimensions are as follows: History‐taking, Physical assessment, Clinical judgement, Organizational efficiency and Humanistic concern. Conclusion: The nursing assessment framework for patients in anaesthesia recovery period was reached consensus between the 22 experts' opinions. Implications for the profession and patient care: The assessment framework constructed in this study could be used for the process evaluation of post‐anesthesia nursing. The framework may guide perianesthesia nurses in the timely and effective assessment of patients during this critical phase of care. Early Southern Mesopotamia shows a complex history of expansion of (irrigated) farming in relation to urban developments and changing landscapes. As a first step to study expanding irrigated farming system, an irrigation-related agent-based model was developed to explore farm(land)s and irrigation systems in relation to decision-making processes, both of farms and their farmlands (an agriculture unit) and collective decision-making processes for irrigation system management—especially sharing water between farms. The decision-making processes include options to move farms, expand the system, or start a new system, as these would be options available for Mesopotamian farmers as well. In this text, we report how model parameters contribute to the generation of various patterns of yields and expansion of farms and system. Additionally, the Gini coefficient (based on yields) is applied to estimate levels of inequality among farmers. Our results show how (1) human decision-making determines the level of influence of and benefits for farms, as well as the overall irrigation system; (2) Gini values effectively capture the degree of inequality in yields among farms based on water availability; and (3) our model is a suitable base for further study, by incorporating additional agents into the irrigation system and expanding the spatial–temporal scales of the irrigated landscapes, to reach a more comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary dynamics of irrigation systems in Southern Mesopotamia. [Display omitted] Simultaneously enhancing the durability and catalytic performance of metal-nitrogen-carbon (M−N x −C) single–atom catalysts is critical to boost oxygen electrocatalysis for energy conversion and storage, yet it remains a grand challenge. Herein, through the combination of early and late metals, we proposed to enhance the stability and tune the catalytic activity of M−N x −C SACs in oxygen electrocatalysis by their strong interaction with the M 2 ′C–type MXene substrate. Our density functional theory (DFT) computations revealed that the strong interaction between "early-late" metal–metal bonds significantly improves thermal and electrochemical stability. Due to considerable charge transfer and shift of the d-band center, the electronic properties of these SACs can be extensively modified, thereby optimizing their adsorption strength with oxygenated intermediates and achieving eight promising bifunctional catalysts for ORR/OER with low overpotentials. More importantly, the constant-potential analysis demonstrated the excellent bifunctional activity of SACs supported on MXene substrate across a broad pH range, especially in strongly alkaline media with record-low overpotentials. Further machine learning analysis shows that the d-band center, the charge of the active site, and the work function of the formed heterojunctions are critical to revealing the ORR/OER activity origin. Porous mullite ceramics exhibit exceptional mechanical and thermal properties in high-temperature environments, making them suitable for applications in thermal insulation. However, a notable challenge associated with high porosity is the tendency for increased sintering shrinkage during the sintering process. The sintering shrinkage can lead to unpredictable cracking and deformation, negatively impacting the final properties of the porous ceramics. In this study, porous mullite ceramics were fabricated using aluminium powder, alumina powder, and silica sol through foam-gelcasting and freeze-drying methods. The oxidative expansion of the aluminium powder was employed to offset the sintering shrinkage. The influence of alumina powder content on the microstructure and properties of porous mullite ceramics was investigated. Particularly, at the alumina content of 50 wt%, the porous mullite ceramics exhibited near-zero sintering shrinkage (0.3%). These ceramics demonstrated high porosity ranging from 78.9% to 83.3%, accompanied with low thermal conductivity (0.24-0.29 W/(m·K)) and great mechanical properties (0.51-1.02 MPa). The temperature difference over 750 °C revealed porous ceramics get excellent thermal stability as ideal lightweight high-temperature thermal insulation materials. As a thermal barrier coating (TBC) material, 8 wt% yttria-stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) exhibits poor resistance against calcium–magnesium–aluminosilicate (CMAS) corrosion. This is caused by the penetration of molten CMAS glass and the depletion of Y3+, which limits the lifetime of 8YSZ. In this study, a multi-rare-earth-oxide-doped zirconia (15 wt% (Lu 0.2 Yb 0.2 Dy 0.2 Gd 0.2 Y 0.2)–ZrO 2 , denoted as 15LYDGY–SZ) ceramic was prepared to examine its interaction with CMAS. The sluggish diffusion effect and the competition between various dopant elements toward reaction with CMAS effectively slow down the atomic diffusion and limit the transformation of tetragonal phase into monoclinic phase in 15LYDGY–SZ ceramic. Compared with the currently used 8YSZ ceramic, the corrosion resistance of 15LYDGY–SZ to CMAS and its retention rate of fracture toughness after CMAS corrosion are improved. The existence of water-filled barriers alters the cross-sectional shape of the main girder, which may lead to vortex-induced vibrations (VIVs) in suspension bridges. However, the mechanism and occurrence conditions of VIVs in the main girder that is affected by water-filled barriers are still unclear. To this end, this study investigates the effect of water-filled barriers on the VIV performance of suspension bridges. The evolution of the vortex structure during one VIV cycle and the corresponding pressure variations, including the average and fluctuating values on the surface, were analyzed. Additionally, the spatiotemporal distribution of the surface pressure was studied using proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). The results show that VIV occurs in the main girder when the height of the water-filled barriers exceeds a threshold value of 0.317. Moreover, a significant negative pressure vortex occurred when the barriers were installed. The vortex underwent the following distinct phases in one VIV cycle: generation, separation, reattachment, and shedding. However, the negative pressure vortex behind the barrier did not vary substantially when the water-filled barriers were installed without VIV. Additionally, the average pressure on the surface of the main girder remained constant regardless of the occurrence of VIVs. In the presence of VIVs, the pressure fluctuations became much more pronounced and were mainly concentrated on the top surface and leading edge of the main girder. Mitochondrial population maintenance in neurons is essential for neuron function and survival. Contact sites between mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are poised to regulate mitochondrial homeostasis in neurons. These contact sites can facilitate transfer of calcium and lipids between the organelles and have been shown to regulate aspects of mitochondrial dynamics. Vesicleassociated membrane protein-associated protein B (VapB) is an ER membrane protein present at a subset of ER–mitochondrial contact sites. A proline-to-serine mutation in VapB at amino acid 56 (P56S) correlates with susceptibility to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) type 8. Given the relationship between failed mitochondrial health and neurodegenerative disease, we investigated the function of VapB in mitochondrial population maintenance. We demonstrated that transgenic expression of VapBP56S in zebrafish larvae (sex undetermined) increased mitochondrial biogenesis, causing increased mitochondrial population size in the axon terminal. Expression of wild-type VapB did not alter biogenesis but, instead, increased mitophagy in the axon terminal. Using genetic manipulations to independently increase mitochondrial biogenesis, we show that biogenesis is normally balanced by mitophagy to maintain a constant mitochondrial population size. VapBP56S transgenics fail to increase mitophagy to compensate for the increase in mitochondrial biogenesis, suggesting an impaired mitophagic response. Finally, using a synthetic ER–mitochondrial tether, we show that VapB’s function in mitochondrial turnover is likely independent of ER–mitochondrial tethering by contact sites. The Staphylococcus sp. are a dominant part of the human skin microbiome and present across the body. Staphylococcus epidermidis is a ubiquitous skin commensal, while S. aureus is thought to colonize at least 30% of the population. S. aureus are not only colonizers but a leading cause of skin and soft tissue infections and a critical healthcare concern. To understand how healthy human skin may differentiate commensal bacteria, such as S. epidermidis, from the potential pathogen methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), we use ex vivo human skin models that allow us to study this host-bacterial interaction in the most clinically relevant environment. Our work highlights the role of the outer stratum corneum as a protective physical barrier against invasion by colonizing Staphylococci. We show how the structural cells of the skin can internalize and respond to different Staphylococci with increasing sensitivity. In intact human skin, a discriminatory IL-1β response was identified, while disruption of the protective stratum corneum triggered an increased and more diverse immune response. We identified and localized tissue resident Langerhans cells (LCs) as a potential source of IL-1β and go on to show a dose-dependent response of MUTZ-LCs to S. aureus but not S. epidermidis. This suggests an important role of LCs in sensing and discriminating between bacteria in healthy human skin, particularly in intact skin and provides a detailed snapshot of how human skin differentiates between friend and potential foe. With the rise in antibiotic resistance, understanding the innate immune response of healthy skin may help us find ways to enhance or manipulate these natural defenses to prevent invasive infection. Author summary: How healthy human skin can differentiate between commensal bacteria that live harmoniously on our skin and those bacteria that have the potential to cause invasive infection, is of great interest. Here we use ex vivo human skin models to show how the outer layer of human skin resists bacterial invasion and that disruption of this layer leads to increased infection and inflammation. We show how colonization of both intact and disrupted skin by Staphylococcus aureus causes an increased IL-1β signaling compared to the commensal S. epidermidis. We show that tissue resident Langerhans cells are well positioned throughout the skin epidermis and that MUTZ-LCs can differentiate commensal from pathogen via IL-1β. This work identifies one of the subtle, yet effective, pathways by which human skin differentiates commensals and pathogens. Translation abstract Buckling lengths in the digital age – a didactic‐technical toolThe critical load of a member in the case of stability failure is the basis for the design according to the equivalent member method of EN 1993‐1‐1. It has become established that the critical load is determined via the buckling length. In the simplest case, the buckling length corresponds to one of the Euler cases, which rarely occurs in typical steel structures. In more complex systems, the buckling length often depends on adjacent structures and their stiffnesses. Determining the buckling length is so important that it is usually taught in steel construction lessons, although it is a classic structural analysis problem. The same happens at the Innsbruck Chair of Steel Construction. A tool that is didactically and technically state‐of‐the‐art and intended to improve education has been developed as part of educational modernization. This tool can playfully convey access to the determination of buckling lengths on complex structures while modern numerical methods take over the actual calculation work in the background. Background: The semi-sitting position offers advantages for surgeries in the posterior cranial fossa. However, data on its safety and effectiveness for clipping aneurysms in the posterior cerebral circulation are limited. This retrospective cohort study evaluates the safety and effectiveness of using the semi-sitting position for these surgeries. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 17 patients with posterior cerebral circulation aneurysms who underwent surgical clipping in the semi-sitting position in the Department of Neurosurgery at Hannover Medical School over a 10-year period. Results: The mean age at surgery was 62 years (range, 31 to 75). Fourteen patients were admitted with subarachnoid hemorrhage and 3 patients had incidental aneurysmas. Fifteen patients had PICA aneurysms, and two had aneurysms of the vertebral artery and the superior cerebellar artery, respectively. The median diameter of the aneurysms was 5 mm (range 3–17 mm). Intraoperative venous air embolism (VAE) occurred in 4 patients, without affecting the surgical or clinical course. VAE was associated with a mild decrease of EtCO2 levels in 3 patients and in 2 patients a decrease of blood pressure occurred which was managed effectively. Surgical procedures proceeded as planned in all instances. There were no complications secondary to VAE. Two patients died secondary to respiratory problems (not related to VAE), and one patient was lost to follow-up. Eleven of fourteen patients were partially or completely independent (Barthel index between 60 and 100) at a median follow-up duration of 13.5 months (range, 3–103 months). Conclusion: The semi-sitting position is a safe and effective technique for the surgical clipping of aneurysms in the posterior cerebral circulation. The incidence of VAE is comparable to that seen in tumor surgery. However, it is crucial for the surgical and anesthesiological team to be familiar with potential complications and to react immediately in case of an occurrence of VAE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Medical education is experiencing a paradigm shift towards more interactive and collaborative pedagogical approaches. Barcamps, also known as unconferences, offer an interactive, participant-driven learning approach. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using barcamps as an educational model in medical education. Furthermore, the possibility of establishing barcamps in medical education as a pedagogical tool is discussed. The study integrates two evaluations to achieve a multifaceted understanding: a pilot study conducted in 2022 and a subsequent feasibility study in 2023. Participation in the barcamps and their evaluations was voluntary. We combined quantitative data, primarily from post-event evaluations, and qualitative data from open-ended survey questions. These methods were designed to capture a broad range of participant experiences and perceptions. The pilot study in 2022 included 11 participants and produced a response rate for the evaluations. The feasibility study in 2023 had 34 participants but a lower evaluation response rate of 53%. Both barcamps were generally positively evaluated by the participants, indicating a high level of satisfaction and perceived value. Regarding the active participation of participants, the wide range of presented topics highlights the adaptability and flexibility of the barcamp model. Attendees at the pilot mentioned a significantly higher previous experience with barcamps. The study suggests that barcamps are generally well received as an interactive and collaborative educational tool in medical education, reflected by high participant evaluation scores. The wide range of topics presented and discussed indicates that barcamps can accommodate diverse educational needs and interests. However, the study also identified areas for improvement, most notably in the structure of topic plans and the overall learning environment. Finally, the principals for barcamps might adapt to other educational methods by adding more interaction, choice, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and caring to the learning process. Accurate and trustworthy forecasting of coal prices can offer theoretical support for the rational planning of coal industry output, which is of great importance in ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply and in achieving carbon neutrality targets. This paper proposes a novel decomposition integration model, called VCNQM, to perform point and interval forecasting of coal price by a combination of variational modal decomposition (VMD), chameleon swarm algorithm (CSA), N-BEATS, and quantile regression. Initially, the variational modal decomposition is enhanced by the chameleon swarm algorithm for decomposing the coal price sequence. Then, N-BEATS is used to forecast each subsequence of coal prices, integrating all results to obtain a point forecast of coal prices. Next, interval forecasting of coal prices is achieved through quantile regression. Finally, to demonstrate the superiority of the VCNQM model's prediction, we make a cross-comparison about predictive performance between the VCNQM model and other benchmark models. According to the experimental findings, we demonstrate the following: after the decomposition by CSA-VMD, the coal price subseries' fluctuation is significantly weakened; using quantile regression provides a reliable interval prediction, which is superior to point prediction; the predicted interval coverage probability (PICP) is higher than the confidence level of 90%; the share power industry index and coal industry index have the greatest impact on coal prices in China; compared to these benchmark models, the VCNQM model's prediction errors are all reduced. In the current literature, there exists a lack of analysis regarding the coordination of the spinning reserve and time-shift characteristics of hydrogen storage systems (HSS) and flexible carbon capture systems (FCCS) in terms of low-carbon economic operation. They are presently used solely as a tool to capture carbon dioxide, without fully utilizing the advantages of their flexible operation. The coordination and complementarity of the FCCS and HSS can ensure stable power supply and improve renewable energy (RE) consumption. Combined with demand side response (DSR), these factors can maximize the RE consumption capacity, reduce carbon emissions, and improve revenue. In this paper, a source-storage-load flexible scheduling strategy is proposed by considering the complementary nature of FCCS and HSS in terms of rotating standby and time-shift characteristics. First, the operational mechanisms of FCCS, HSS, and demand side response (DSR) are analyzed, and their mathematical models are constructed to improve flexibility in grid operation and regulation. Next, deficiencies in FCCS and HSS operation under rotating reserve requirements are analyzed to design a coordinated operation framework for the FCCS and HSS. This operational framework aims to enable the complementarity of the rotating reserve and time-shift characteristics of FCCS and HSS. Finally, based on the carbon emission trading mechanism, a three-stage ladder carbon emission trading cost model is constructed, and a source-storage-load flexible scheduling strategy is established to achieve an effective balance between low carbon emissions and economic performance. The simulation results demonstrate that the strategy reduces the overall cost by 8.57%, reduces the carbon emissions by 35.33%, and improves the renewable energy consumption by 3.5% compared with the unoptimized scheme. Beer, as an ancient and widely consumed alcoholic beverage, holds a rich cultural heritage and history. In recent years, fruit beer has gained significant attention as a distinct beer type produced by incorporating fruit juice into traditional beer ingredients. This study employed headspace solid-phase microextraction–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry techniques, redundancy analysis, and orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminant analysis to analyze the sensory evaluation, physicochemical properties, organic acids, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of loquat beer with different proportions of loquat juice. The results shown that the addition of an appropriate amount of loquat juice (40%) enhanced the overall sensory quality of the beer; as the proportion of loquat juice increased, the contents of malic acid and tartaric acid significantly increased (p < 0.05). A total of 100 VOCs were identified, among which 23 key VOCs (VIP > 1, p < 0.05) represented the most important characteristic flavor components in loquat beer based on their odor activity value (OAV).
