Background: Oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) is an important surgical modality for the treatment of degenerative lumbar spine disease. Various supplemental fixations can be co-applied with OLIF, increasing OLIF stability and reducing complications. However, it is unclear whether osteoporosis affects the success of supplemental fixations; therefore, this study analyzed the effects of osteoporosis on various supplemental fixations co-applied with OLIF.Methods: We developed and validated an L3-S1 finite element (FE) model; we assigned different material properties to each component and established models of the osteoporotic and normal bone lumbar spine. We explored the outcomes of OLIF combined with each of five supplemental fixations: standalone OLIF; OLIF with lateral plate fixation (OLIF + LPF); OLIF with translaminar facet joint fixation and unilateral pedicle screw fixation (OLIF + TFJF + UPSF); OLIF with unilateral pedicle screw fixation (OLIF + UPSF); and OLIF with bilateral pedicle screw fixation (OLIF + BPSF). Under the various working conditions, we calculated the ranges of motion (ROMs) of the normal bone and osteoporosis models, the maximum Mises stresses of the fixation instruments (MMSFIs), and the average Mises stresses on cancellous bone (AMSCBs).Results: Compared with the normal bone OLIF model, no demonstrable change in any segmental ROM was apparent. The MMSFIs increased in all five osteoporotic OLIF models. In the OLIF + TFJF + UPSF model, the MMSFIs increased sharply in forward flexion and extension. The stress changes of the OLIF + UPSF, OLIF + BPSF, and OLIF + TFJF + UPSF models were similar; all stresses trended upward. The AMSCBs decreased in all five osteoporotic OLIF models during flexion, extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation. The average stress change of cancellous bone was most obvious under extension. The AMSCBs of the five OLIF models decreased by 14%, 23.44%, 21.97%, 40.56%, and 22.44% respectively.Conclusions: For some supplemental fixations, the AMSCBs were all reduced and the MMSFIs were all increased in the osteoporotic model, compared with the OLIF model of normal bone. Therefore, the biomechanical performance of an osteoporotic model may be inferior to the biomechanical performance of a normal model for the same fixation method; in some instances, it may increase the risks of fracture and internal fixation failure. Abstract: A method for the synthesis of titanocene (IV) aryl carboxylate complexes is presented in this paper. It is based on the fact that alcohol can catalyze the reaction between Cp2TiCl2 and aryl carboxylate ligands in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The effects of the catalyst on the reaction system were studied and the possible reaction mechanism was proposed. This method was used to prepare a series of titanocene (IV) aryl carboxylate complexes and a macrocyclic titanocene (5,5′-dithiodisalicylato titanocene), whose structure was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Based on the reaction of bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl) dichlorotitanium ( [image omitted], Cp' = η5-C5H4Me) with 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (HNA-1) and 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (HNA-2), in the presence of β-cyclodextrin polymer (β­CDP) as a catalyst, two titanocene complexes: bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl) 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoatotitanium (1) and bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl)1-hydroxy-2-naphthoatotitanium (2), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectra. X-ray diffraction analysis of 1 and 2 show mononuclear TiIV and indicate that the geometries at titanium are distorted tetrahedra with coordination number four. Both complexes exhibit 3-D frameworks constructed through H-bonding and C-H ··· π interactions. There are no π-π stacking interactions between the naphthyl rings and cyclopentadienyl rings of 1, while there are three types of π-π interactions in the structure of 2, owing to their different hydroxyl position in naphthalene rings. Abstract: An effective and novel approach to obtaining electrorheological particles with high performance through the formation of host–guest complexes has been achieved. The significant preponderance of the host–guest complex formation is that the host structure can be controlled easily by adding different guests. Based on this point, six supramolecular complexes of β-cyclodextrin cross-linking polymer with salicylic acid (β-CDP-1), 5-chlorosalicylic acid (β-CDP-2), 3,5-dichlorosalicylic acid (β-CDP-3), 5-nitrosalicylic acid (β-CDP-4), 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (β-CDP-5), or 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (β-CDP-6) particles were synthesized. The electrorheological yield stresses of the suspensions of these particles in silicone oil have been investigated under DC electric fields. It was found that the yield stress of the typical β-CDP-1 ER fluid was 5.6 kPa in 4 kV/mm, which is much higher than that of pure β-cyclodextrin polymer (β-CDP), that of pure salicylic acid as well as that of the mixture of the host with the guest. It is clearly indicated that the formation of supramolecular complexes between β-CDP and salicylic acid can enhance the ER properties of the host. The similar results for other supramolecular complexes with different guests have also been obtained under the same DC electric fields. The yield stress of supramolecular complexes is strongly affected by the structure of guests. Among the six investigated guests, 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid gave the highest ER property having a yield stress of 9.8 kPa under 4 kV/mm DC while cross-linked with β-CDP to form β-CDP-6. The yield stress of β-CDP-6 was significantly increased by 72% in comparison with that of the pure β-CDP. However, the yield stress of β-CDP-1–5 slightly increased by 34–41% as compared with that of the pure β-CDP. The achieved results indicate that the ER effect of host–guest complexes can be greatly affected by the changes of the tremendous guest structure, whereas the slight guest structural transposition, such as altering different groups of a guest, can only obtain the adjacent electrorheological behavior. The strategy of extending ligands and reducing symmetry provides facile access to obtain a wide variety of linkers for the construction of MOFs bearing diverse structures and intriguing properties. In this work, we employed this strategy to design and prepare a 2,4,6-tri(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine ligand and used it to successfully construct two cobalt-based MOFs with the formula [(NH2Me2)2][Co2(tdp)]·2DMA·2H2O (Co-MOF 1) and [(NH2Me2)2][Co7(μ3-OH)4(tdp)2(H2O)6]·2DMA·3H2O (Co-MOF 2) (H6tdp = 2,4,6-tri(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine), which were thoroughly characterized by various techniques including FTIR, TGA, PXRD and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both MOFs have non-penetrating network structures. Co-MOF 1 shows a three-dimensional honeycomb structure through sharing Co2+. Co-MOF 2 has a nanotube structure formed by bridging a Co7O cluster with a tdp6− ligand. Furthermore, the gas adsorption properties with respect to C2H2, C2H4, CO2, and CH4 were systematically investigated. By comprehensive comparison, Co-MOF 1 is a highly promising material for C2H2/CH4, C2H4/CH4 and CO2/CH4 separations. Specifically, the IAST adsorption selectivity at 298 K and 1 atm reaches 25.43, 12.47 and 11.33 for the equimolar C2H2/CH4, C2H4/CH4 and CO2/CH4 gas mixtures, respectively. More significantly, as revealed by PXRD, N2 adsorption measurements and cycle tests, Co-MOF 1 exhibits excellent chemical stability, which lays a good foundation for its practical application. Abstract: Silica (SiO2) nanocomposite spherical particles coated with polyimide had been synthesized by a dispersion polymerization method. The chemical structure of polyimide/silica (PI/SiO2) nanocomposite spherical particles was investigated by using FT-IR, and the surface morphology characterization was performed with SEM. The TEM showed that SiO2 core was surface-coated with a multilayer composite and the multilayer thickness was about 20 nm. Moreover, the particles were homogeneously distributed and interconnected very fine. Basing the results, it was found that the PI/SiO2 nanocomposite particles were core–shell structure. Ketogulonicigenium vulgare has been widely used in vitamin C two-step fermentation. Four K. vulgare strains (WSH-001, Y25, Hbe602 and SKV) have been completely genome-sequenced, however, less attention was paid to elucidate the reason for the differences in 2-KGA yield on genetic level. Here, a novel K. vulgare SPU B805 with higher 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KGA) yield, was genome-sequenced to confirm harboring one circular chromosome with plasmid free. Comparative genome analyses showed that the absence of plasmid 2 was an important factor for its high 2-KGA productivity. The amino acid biosynthetic pathways in strain SPU B805 are much more complete than those in other K. vulgare strains. Meanwhile, strain SPU B805 harbored a complete PPP and TCA route, as well as a disabled EMP and ED pathway, same as to strain SKV, whereas strain WSH-001, Y25 and Hbe602 harbored complete PPP, ED, TCA pathway and a nonfunctional EMP pathway. The transcriptome of strain SPU B805 validated the carbon metabolism in cytoplasm mainly through the PPP pathway due to its higher transcriptional levels. This is the first time to elucidate the underlying mechanism for the difference in 2-KGA yield, and it is of great significance for strain improvement in the industrial fermentation. A robust Co-based metal–organic framework, [Co3(L)(OH)2(H2O)4]·2DMF·2H2O (1), was synthesized under solvothermal conditions using pyridyl-decorated tetracarboxylic acid, 2,6-di(2′,5′-dicarboxylphenyl)pyridine (H4L). Structural analysis demonstrates that 1 is a 3D framework based on 1D alternate Co4 chain units. The desolvated structure of 1a contains 1D open channels with a highly polar pore surface decorated with open metal sites, μ3-OH group and pyridyl group sites, exhibiting multipoint interactions between C2H2 and CO2 molecules. The framework efficiently takes up C2H2 and CO2 with significant selectivity for C2H2 and CO2 over CH4. Background: 2-Keto-l-gulonic acid (2-KGA), the precursor of vitamin C, is currently produced by two-step fermentation. In the second step, l-sorbose is transformed into 2-KGA by the symbiosis system composed of Ketogulonicigenium vulgare and Bacillus megaterium. Due to the different nutrient requirements and the uncertain ratio of the two strains, the symbiosis system significantly limits strain improvement and fermentation optimization. Results: In this study, Ketogulonicigenium robustum SPU_B003 was reported for its capability to grow well independently and to produce more 2-KGA than that of K. vulgare in a mono-culture system. The complete genome of K. robustum SPU_B003 was sequenced, and the metabolic characteristics were analyzed. Compared to the four reported K. vulgare genomes, K. robustum SPU_B003 contained more tRNAs, rRNAs, NAD and NADP biosynthetic genes, as well as regulation- and cell signaling-related genes. Moreover, the amino acid biosynthesis pathways were more complete. Two species-specific internal promoters, P1 (orf_01408 promoter) and P2 (orf_02221 promoter), were predicted and validated by detecting their initiation activity. To efficiently produce 2-KGA with decreased CO2 release, an innovative acetyl-CoA biosynthetic pathway (XFP-PTA pathway) was introduced into K. robustum SPU_B003 by expressing heterologous phosphoketolase (xfp) and phosphotransacetylase (pta) initiated by internal promoters. After gene optimization, the recombinant strain K. robustum/pBBR-P1_xfp2502-P2_pta2145 enhanced acetyl-CoA approximately 2.4-fold and increased 2-KGA production by 22.27% compared to the control strain K. robustum/pBBR1MCS-2. Accordingly, the transcriptional level of the 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (pgd) and pyruvate dehydrogenase genes (pdh) decreased by 24.33 ± 6.67 and 8.67 ± 5.51%, respectively. The key genes responsible for 2-KGA biosynthesis, sorbose dehydrogenase gene (sdh) and sorbosone dehydrogenase gene (sndh), were up-regulated to different degrees in the recombinant strain. Conclusions: The genome-based functional analysis of K. robustum SPU_B003 provided a new understanding of the specific metabolic characteristics. Multicomponent ring-opening/Huisgen cycloaddition reactions combined with CO2 capture with a polyurea-encapsulated copper salt as a catalyst that in situ formed from simple CuCl and soluble polyurea during the reaction were carried out successfully for the synthesis of β-hydroxytriazoles under exceptionally mild conditions, in which the polyurea-encapsulated copper(i) chloride proved to be a robust and recyclable catalyst system with high yields as well as excellent chemoselectivity in this reaction. It was found that catalytic allylation of various cyanoacetamides proceeded smoothly and efficiently in environmentally benign PEG-400 (PEG=poly(ethylene glycol)) in the presence of Pd(OAc)2 and novel triazine-derived multifunctional ligand L1, with which this reaction could afford the structurally diverse mono- and double allylated adducts in good to excellent yields as well as good chemo- and regioselectivity. In addition, this Pd/ L1/PEG-400 catalyst system could be recycled for five runs with good yield and high efficiency, which supported the notion that the triazine-containing Schiff base based phosphine ligand could be a multifunctional and reusable ligand encapsulated in PEG-400. Five chiral metal-organic coordination compounds (CMOCCs), {[Cu4O(Lvcz)2Br4] ·H2O} n ( 1), {[Cd(HLvcz)2(NO3)2] ·0.25H2O} n ( 2), {[Cu2(HLvcz)2I2] ·H2O} n ( 3), {[Ag(HLvcz)2]CF3SO3} n ( 4), and {[Co2(HLvcz)(bdc)2(dmf)2] ·dmf ·3H2O} n ( 5; HLvcz = voriconazole, bdc = terephthalic acid), have been successfully prepared and structurally characterized. The chiral drug ligand voriconazole exhibits diverse modes of coordination in the five complexes, resulting in the formation of various architectures and properties. Complex 1 is a tetranuclear cluster, complex 2 exhibits a 1D double-strand chain structure in which hydrogen-bonding interactions lead to a 3D supramolecular network, complex 3 is a 1D chain structure with two different types of rings based on the rhombic dimer Cu2I2, complex 4 is a 2D structure with 63 topology that contains four types of C-H ···F hydrogen bonds, and complex 5 affords a 3D framework with sxa topology. The facile synthesis of the starch hydrogel with anisotropic microstructure and dynamic behaviors was developed in the presence (A-gel) and absence of DC electric field (B-gel). The microstructures of hydrogels were characterized by environmental scanning electron microscope. Their electro-responsive property of hydrogels was investigated with their storage modulus (G′). The result demonstrates that theG′ ofA-gel is greater than that ofB-gel, and the modulus ofA-gel increases along with the external field, which signifies positive electroresponse. In addition, theG′ ofA-gel andB-gel (and) also continuously increases with increasing starch concentration, whereas both the maximum of modulus increment (ΔG′ =  − ) and that of modulus increment sensitivity (ΔG′/) occur with the starch weight fraction at around 36.5%. To enhance the electro-responsive effects of the hydrogels, dielectric particles were dispersed in the hydrogel. It is found that BaTiO3/chitosan core-shell composite particles significantly enhance the electroresponse of the hydrogel. The mechanism of the electro-response mode is proposed. In this work, we have developed a new approach to monodispersed hybrid Ag@TiO2 nanocomposites using a titanium-promoted cross-linking reduction in the SiH functional material, polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS)-based semi-interpenetrating networks (PMHSIPN). The titania was designed to be highly dispersed on the functional material and then the Ag@TiO2 nanoparticles were formed in uniform size and shape under mild conditions. The experimental results reveal that the nanosilver catalysts (the fabricated Ag@TiO2 located on the PMHSIPNs, namely, nanoAg@TiO2@PMHSIPN) have enhanced catalytic activities in the alkynylation of trifluoromethyl ketones or α,β-unsaturated trifluoromethyl ketones with terminal alkynes. In this reaction, the hybrid Ag@TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited a high level of catalytic activity for the selective 1,2-alkynylation of various trifluoromethyl ketones and α,β-unsaturated trifluoromethyl ketones into a wide range of fluorinated alcohols in water. Finally, on the basis of the nanoAg@TiO2@PMHSIPN-catalyzed alkynylation of trifluoromethyl ketones, we developed a new concept whereby highly reactive substrates act as a 'reactive tractor' or 'reactive springboard' to drive the transformation of poorly reactive substrates as springboard chemistry. Consequently, we found that trifluoromethyl ketone can be used as an efficient additive in the nanosilver-catalyzed alkynylation of aldehydes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To enhance electric response by polymer coating, BaTiO3/polymer shell-core composite particles were prepared by emulsion polymerization with polyimide, chitosan, polystyrene, polyacrylic acid, and polyacrylamide. Their micro structure was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and automatic X-ray diffraction, their properties were investigated using optical contact angle and dielectric constant, and their electric responses were studied indirectly by dynamic viscoelasticity analyzer. The results showed that BaTiO3 cores remained in cubic, the surface hydrophilic of the particles changed as follows: BaTiO3 > BaTiO3/PI > BaTiO3/PAM > BaTiO3/Chitosan > BaTiO3/PAA > BaTiO3/PS, and the dielectric constants of the particles varied with the order of that BaTiO3 > BaTiO3/PI > BaTiO3/PAM > BaTiO3/Chitosan > BaTiO3/PAA > BaTiO3/PS. Eventually, the particles' electric response activities exhibited the order of BaTiO3/PI > BaTiO3/PAM > BaTiO3/Chitosan > BaTiO3/PAA > BaTiO3/PS > BaTiO3. Furthermore, the electric response of the particles showed a chief dependence on polymer-coating, surface hydrophilic, and dielectric constant. As a result, BaTiO3 particles' electric response was much enhanced by polymer-coating, and their compatibility to aqueous continuous phase was ameliorated. For the BaTiO3/polymer particles, fine surface hydrophile and high dielectric constant dominated the strong response to electric field. Ultimately, BaTiO3/PI and BaTiO3/PAM particles possessed the strongest electric response in the five composite particles. A mesoporous silica (SBA-15)-supported pyrimidine-substituted N-heterocyclic carbene iridium complex was prepared and used as a catalyst for both environmentally friendly N-alkylation of amines and β-alkylation of secondary alcohols with primary alcohols. The structure of the supported iridium catalyst was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), 13C and 29Si solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), iridium K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopic analyses which demonstrated that the coordination environment of the iridium centre and the 3-dimensional-hexagonal pore structure of SBA-15 were retained after the immobilization. The catalyst was found to be highly efficient for both kinds of reaction on a wide range of substrates under mild conditions. Moreover, the supported iridium catalyst was obviously superior to the unsupported one in the N-alkylation of aniline and β-alkylation of 1-phenylethanol with benzyl alcohol as substrate, which indicated that not only the iridium complex moiety but also the support material contributed to the catalytic activity of the supported iridium catalyst in these reactions. The supported iridium catalyst can be easily recycled by simple washing without chemical treatment, and exhibited excellent recycling performance without notable decrease in catalytic efficiency even after twelve test cycles for N-alkylation of aniline with benzyl alcohol, nine cycles for N-alkylation of different amines with different alcohols, and eight cycles for β-alkylation of 1-phenylethanol with benzyl alcohol, respectively. Two new Co(II)-complexes, namely, [(NH 2 Me 2) 2 ][Co 4 (L) 2 (μ 2 -O) 2 (H 2 O) 5 DMF]·2DMF·3H 2 O (1) , [(NH 2 Me 2) 5 ][Co 12 (L) 6 (μ 3 -O) 4 (HCOO)(H 2 O) 6 ]·2DMF·8H 2 O (2) were solvothermally constructed based on a rigid pyridine polycarboxylate ligand (H 4 L, 2,6-di(2′,5′-dicarboxyphenyl) pyridine). Complex 1 and 2 dislay 3D frameworks with various metal cluster. Complex 1 is a 3D porous framework with a (4,8)-connected topology featured by 1D pore structure in a-axis direction with binuclear cluster [Co 2 (COO) 4 O] and tetranuclear cluster [Co 4 (COO) 8 O 2 ]. Complex 2 possess trinuclear cluster [Co 3 (COO) 6 O] and binuclear cluster [Co 2 (COO) 5 O], and it can be clearly observed that 2 is assembled by numbers of nano-cages by twisting a certain angle. Notably, the gas sorption behaviour investigation indicates that the desolvated 1a displays uptake capacity and adsorption selectivity to C 2 H 2 and CO 2 over CH 4. Furthermore, the results of magnetic studies show that complex 2 exhibits antiferromagnetic interactions between Co2+ ions.
