Adolescence, in addition to being a vital period of human development, could also be considered a sensitive period for the appearance of "antisocial" and "delinquent" behaviours. The objective of the present study is to characterise the prevalence of Antisocial and Delinquent Behaviour in a sample of 137 adolescents between 11 and 17 years of age belonging to the Caribbean region by means of the A-D Questionnaire. Based on the analysis of the results, a higher prevalence of antisocial behaviour (AB) was found, highlighting behaviours such as the "use of offensive language, violence as a method of conflict resolution and failure to comply with tasks"; as for delinquent behaviour (DB), although it presented a lower prevalence compared to AB, some of these behaviours were highlighted, such as "stealing valuables from public places, causing damage to public property and accessing clubs or acquiring prohibited beverages". In Colombia, and especially in the Caribbean region, there is a need to continue expanding scientific studies to generate contributions towards the approach and understanding of this complex phenomenon, especially taking into consideration the adolescent population, due to the different risk factors associated with this stage. Currently, the strong involvement of young people in social media raises questions about potential multiplier effects on risks and opportunities for delinquent practices. It is not always easy to distinguish a harmless online action, an integral part of the social and relational experimentation typical of adolescence, from a fact that will constitute an unlawful act subject to judicial intervention. This article seeks to understand and discuss how the use of social media is materialized in the facts, defined as a crime by the criminal law, perpetrated by young people aged between 12 and 16, in the context of youth justice in Portugal. It is based on an exploratory analysis of qualitative information collected in a Family and Children Court from youth justice proceedings concerning 201 young people of both sexes. Just under a third of this population was proven to have been involved in unlawful acts using social media at three levels: planning/ organization, execution and dissemination. Multiple participation in social media is dominant. There is a significant overrepresentation of girls as perpetrators of unlawful acts, especially those involving a high degree of violence, embodying the online-offline continuum. Most of the analysed facts of both sexes have at their epicentre the perception that personal honour has been attacked and requires reparation. From there, it is a short step to violence, which can lead to a reconfiguration and exchange of roles between victim and aggressor, which is not always easy to prove. For both sexes, the relationships established in school dominate the interaction between aggressors-victims. More than the anonymity afforded by the digital, what stands out is the need for affirmation in public and/or semi-private space, and violent action is the catalyst to gain respect through the instant gratification offered by social media in an online-offline continuum embodying the "onlife" (Floridi, 2017) that characterizes the lives of young people today. The objective of this investigation was to establish a relationship between psychopathic traits and belonging to groups of antinormative peers in a sample of Portuguese adolescents. Were included 517 adolescents from the schools in the north of Portugal, aged between 12 and 18 years. Was used the Escala de Antinormatividade Grupal (EAG) and the Youth Psychopathic Inventory Traits Reconstruted (YPI-RE). The results indicated gender and age influences at the level of the Group Antinormativity and psychopathic traits, and parent's marital status at the level of psychopathic traits. There was a significant positive correlation between Group Antinormativity and psychopathic traits, and, finally, it was concluded that Irresponsibility, the Search of Danger and to be male predict Group Antinormativity. Around 1930 in Buenos Aires, physicians and lawyers began asking why children were committing crimes as part of a penal agenda revealed in publications such as the Revista de Psiquiatría, Criminología y Medicina Legal and the Anales de la Sociedad Argentina de Criminología from 1930 to 1946. Emerging from this discourse, conceived as a social practice, was an approach to the dangerous nature of childhood, linked to biological qualities, environmental factors and issues related to family and gender which were flagged as a precursor to crime. Advances in endocrinology, criminal biotypology, and psychiatry were resumed, with these subjects also addressed at the First International Congress on Criminology in Rome and the First Latin American Congress on Criminology in Buenos Aires, both held in 1938. A qualitative analysis of the discourse reveals a blend of the incidence of the biological and the social in the dangerous nature of childhood. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JUVENILE delinquency , *ADOLESCENCE , *HOME environment , *SOCIAL skills , *ACQUISITION of data , *DELINQUENT behavior - Abstract
This work compiles a set of studies developed to understand the antisocial phenomenon in the context of normative adolescent development. The aim of this research was to understand individual factors and the complex interplay of factors that jointly contribute to explaining adolescent antisocial behaviour. This was achieved through the exploration of the joint contribution of personality, social skills, family environment, self-concept, and socioeconomic status. The presented studies used data from two different samples: a convenience sample of 193 adolescents between the 5th and the 12th grade; and a convenience sample of 121 delinquent boys who were, at the time of data collection, institutionalised in Educational Centres. Results suggest that there are some general factors accounting for all antisocial behaviour (from normative transgression to delinquency). Nevertheless, there were also remarkable differences between different behaviours in terms of their nature and severity. Likewise, age-related variables and stable variables showed different contributions to antisocial behaviour. In sum, it was possible to conclude that adolescent antisocial behaviour in general can be accounted for by factors related to developmental change, typical of adolescents. Still, there are some individual characteristics that make some individuals more prone to engage in this type of behaviour. The importance of considering antisocial behaviour from the general population in a different way from juvenile delinquency is highlighted as the latter was considerably more serious, persistent and manifested in adolescents that were especially vulnerable, not just individually, but also with regards to family and social contexts. CRIME , *PSYCHOLOGY , *POVERTY , *PSYCHOBIOLOGY , *CRIMINAL psychology - Abstract
In this investigative article we draw upon the production of delinquency and its objectification by psychological knowledge during the twentieth century in Brazil. The analytical scope for this research comes from the archeogenealogical strategy put forward by Michel Foucault, whereby we investigated articles from the journal 'Arquivos Brasileiros de Psicologia' between 1949 and 1990. We selected 17 articles as analytical field in which the elements "youth", "crime" and/or "delinquency" are present and through which four epistemological axes that legitimize delinquency as an object of study of psychology were delineated: 1. the demoralization of poverty (family inheritance),2. sovereignty of internalization (biopsychological determinism),3. symptomatology of contemporaneity, and 4. essentialization of youth. Through this analysis, we highlight how psychology constitutes the young subject as the representation of delinquency, but rather as the science that privatizes a domain over this object. Psychology, thus, become the necessary science to explain contemporary youth criminality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JUVENILE offenders , *JUVENILE delinquency , *ACADEMIC achievement , *SOCIAL status , *FAMILY size - Abstract
Severe antisocial behaviour in adolescence is a matter of concern in every society, especially when it translates in juvenile delinquency that persists through adulthood. In this study, we asked a sample of 121 institutionalized male juvenile offenders (between 14 and 20 years old) to fill several self-report measures to understand young delinquents and their social and academic conditions, behaviour, and individual dispositions. Results reveal peculiarities on academic achievement, socioeconomic status and family size. Analysis confirmed the role of personality, self-concept, self-control and family environment on antisocial scores, especially psychoticism, neuroticism, social conformity, and family environment. Different behavioural subtypes reflect differences in psychoticism, antisocial behaviour and family environment. However, there were no correlations between antisocial tendency and age, school year or family size. Our paper contributes to existing knowledge that supports intervention approaches, stressing that, unlike age, school year or family size, different types of behaviour may require differentiated interventions. - Abstract
Considering our insertion in a social program held in a slum in Rio de Janeiro, this work aims at analyzing the range and limits of our professional action in treating children and teenagers victimized by violence and presenting antisocial demeanor, according to Winnicott's thinking. The project aims at the socialization of children and teenagers victimized by violence through activities such as: circus, playing, fashion creation, dancing and "capoeira" practice, while accompanied by a team of social workers, pedagogues and psychologists. The sessions evidenced several manifestations of violence taking place on children and teenagers' lives. Two case studies are presented. The conclusion was that, although all the efforts made by the teams, offering a listening and refuge space to those social actors, not all of them were able to find a creative way out to their lives, in face of their psychological suffering. The possibility of constructing and reconstructing was only possible whenever they could find hope within the social program called "Circus", that is, a place, a space or a "good enough continent" to their psychological demands and of their own lives. - Abstract
Psychological assessment is always a complex process that must attend to the specificities of the individual, the group and the community. Thus, there are no exceptions with regard to populations with deviant behaviors and, within this very large group, we should consider the specificities underlying those behaviors and the context of its manifestation. In this article, and based on a literature review and on the experience gained from the work developed by the Group of Consumptions and Delinquencies (GCD), from the Pedagogical Psychology Clinic (CPP) at the Fernando Pessoa University (UFP), we propose a plan directed to young people with deviant behaviors. That plan must have some flexibility, following the procedures recommended, but regarding the specificities of the evaluation target. This is a proposal that aims to embrace a more idiographic shed, which analyzes of the subjective aspects, calling for techniques such as observation and interview, and also attending to the objective elements, through the use of structured instruments. Depending on the particular circumstances of the case, this proposal for evaluation plan may eventually suffer adjustments, and may be complemented with other evaluation procedures suggested by other protocols. This article examines the characteristics of cattle raiding in La Pampa during the first decades of the 20th century. The main objective of this research was to recognize the spread of social values regarding cattle theft in the fields of justice and press. We analyze the mechanisms of the state to control cattle theft and the social actors involved in stealing, commercializing, and transporting cattle, to make more complex the interpretations that only associate this crime to subordinate sectors of the society of La Pampa [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CONTEMPORARY, The , *COMMODITY fetishism , *ADOLESCENCE , *JUVENILE delinquency , *HEDONISM - Abstract
Contemporaneity is a time full of challenges, and the huge development of capitalism has failed to answer satisfactorily the discontents generated by the social inequality that this social order is capable of provoking. That fact directly reflects on sociability and human subjectivation forms, mainly on a crises and aggravation of the structural unemployment, context caused by the changes that occurred in the working world that affects everybody. This reflection suggests the urgency in deepening the discussions about disrespect to juvenile rights in Brazilian society, in view of the hedonistic and consumerist culture associated to the impact provoked by the "merchandise fetish" on teenagers, especially those who practice illegal acts as a strategy to survive and a way of inserting themselves in an unfair and mean world. In order to do that, the social meaning assigned to adolescence nowadays is taken as a way of defending the investments in this peculiar phase of human development. Different knowledge areas are necessary for an analysis of the phenomenon that goes beyond its appearance and immediacy. The act of transgressing official laws is easily associated to delinquency, embodied in the history of Brazilian social policies dedicated to children and adolescents. This association is a way to stigmatize and sending them to custodial institutions. Interdisciplinary and inter-paradigmatic practices appears to be a necessary way towards proposing more efficient and less vindictive public politics, leading to a more effective system that can guarantee juvenile rights, deconstructing the emphasis that has been historically given in the confinement as the answer to these demands. The views of the media witness the state of a society and also contribute to the construction of this social multi plurality. The expressions, the language and the news framework on juvenile delinquency format concepts and ideas, build realities, but also reflect them. Based on the historical background and the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the news coverage on juvenile crime in the newspapers Páblico and Correio da Manhã, in routines and extra-routines times, as well as the analysis of five interviews with police agents and journalists, we seek to identify contexts and journalistic options as well as representations of the phenomenon.
