The article presents information on the increasing cost of education at Bates College. This fall, Bates College reluctantly joined a small but growing group of institutions reaching a significant milestone. Its annual price tag passed the $40,000 mark. Of that, officials are hoping to bring in $45-million for student aid in order to make the college less reliant on tuition to pay for scholarships. With so many students applying to Bates for so few spots, the college can still persuade enough smart students to pay full price or take a smaller aid package than another college may offer.
