This special issue of Software Tools for Technology Transfer presents various tool-supported techniques that can help with the construction and analysis of such reliable software and systems. Through a co-word analysis of the proceedings, this study identifies salient aspects of the evolution of published proceedings of Association for Information Systems (AIS) conferences from 2007 to 2016. We provide insights into the intellectual development and unpack specific issues within the information systems (IS) field by conducting a quantitative analysis of titles of 12,866 papers gathered from the AIS Library. The underlying assumption of this research is that the conference proceedings represent emerging and declining trends in scientific IS research. As a result, this study ascertains trends and patterns of the topics of the field. The findings present valuable insights into the state and development of the IS field, revealing rising and declining trends through several analyses. State of health (SOH) estimation is essential to the health diagnostic of lithium-ion battery. The data-driven approach with charging feature extraction is promising for online SOH estimation and has been widely explored over years. However, their deployment can be barriered by the lack of complete charging data in real-world applications. Motivated by this, this paper proposes an artificial intelligence-based SOH estimator using the transient phase between constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) charging, which is easily obtained in real-world charging scenarios. Specifically, a convolutional neural network (CNN) model is proposed to explain the relationship between the charging data and the SOH. Following this endeavor, the transfer learning is exploited for model mitigation and SOH estimation on different battery types, relying on much reduced amount of data for efficient CNN model re-training. The validation experiments are conducted based on the aging data obtained on LiNiCoAlO 2 (NCA) and LiCoO 2 (LCO) cells. Results suggest that the proposed method realizes accurate SOH estimation requiring only a short segment from the CC-CV transient phase, so that can meet a broad range of real-world charging scenarios. This study explored the publication pattern of Canadian computer scientists and compared the impact of conference papers and journal articles published by these researchers. It was found that conference proceedings are the preferred venue for scholarly communication, but the impact of conference papers is not comparable to that of journal articles. The potential reasons for the lower impact of conference papers are discussed, and possible approaches to improve the current scholarly communication system in computer science are proposed. Current essay identifies and analyzes how research involving the theme Teachers' Formation has been shaped within the perspective of the History of Education in Work Group 2 (WG 2) of the annual meetings of the National Association of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Education (ANPED). Papers and posters published in the annual meetings over the last ten years (from 2003 to 2012) are analyzed. The methodology involved the identification and analysis of the research papers and posters published in the proceedings of the meetings. A survey of all papers and posters published in the proceedings of WG 2 was undertaken identifying, through a survey on the last decade, those which involved the theme Teachers' Formation, coupled to the most investigated periods by the researchers who dealt with this specific theme. In this paper, we first discuss a viable pathway to energy transition through the electricity triangle, highlighting the role of RES in electricity generation. Further, we propose methodologies for the planning of wind and solar PV, as well as how to address their uncertainty in generation expansion problems. Ever since California experienced its energy crisis two decades ago, dynamic pricing of electricity has been the topic of discussion in numerous conferences and papers. Scores of pilots involving some 400 treatments of time-varying rates have been done to assess customer response to dynamic pricing around the globe, beginning with California's Statewide Pricing Pilot that ran from 2003 to 04. In the past few years, we are witnessing large scale deployment of static time-varying rates in states such as California and Michigan. Colorado is about to embark on that journey. However, other than OG&E's deployment of dynamic pricing, we have not seen much deployment of dynamic pricing in North America. California's power outages in August 2002 have rekindled interest in the topic. But almost all of the discussion about dynamic pricing has focused on summer peaking utilities. In this paper, we discuss the experience of Hydro Quebec, a winter peaking utility in Canada. Hydro Quebec has tested both critical-peak pricing and peak-time rebates. The results are very encouraging and quite consistent with results from summer peaking utilities. The article is based on a question and answer format with Frederic Pelletier, who advises Hydro Quebec on tariff strategy. He had posted some results from their dynamic pricing deployment on LinkedIn in response to some results I had posted from three-pilots with TOU rates that had been carried out in Maryland. Process variations during manufacturing lead to differences in the performance of the chips. In order to better utilize the performance of the chips, it is necessary to perform maximum operation frequency ( F m a x ) tests to place the chips into different speed bins. For most F m a x tests, significant efforts are put in place to reduce test cost and improve binning accuracy; e.g., our conference paper published in ICICM 2017 presents a novel binning sensor for low-cost and accurate speed binning. However, by promoting chips placed at the lower bins, because of conservative binning, into higher bins, the overall profit can greatly increase. Therefore, this paper, extended based on a conference paper, presents a novel and adaptive methodology for speed binning, in which the paths impacting the speed bin of a specific IC are identified and adapted by our proposed on-chip Binning Checker and Binning Adaptor. As a result, some parts at a bin margin can be promoted to higher bins. The proposed methodology can be used to optimize the F m a x yield of a digital circuit when it has redundant timing in clock tree, and it can be integrated into current F m a x tests with low extra cost. The proposed adaptive system has been implemented and validated on five benchmarks from ITC, ISCAS89, and OpenSPARCT2 core on 28 nm Altera FPGAs. Measurement results show that the number of higher bin chips is improved by 7–16%, and our cost analysis shows that the profit increase is between 1.18% and 3.04%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been employed in various fields of biotechnology due to their proven properties as an antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agent. AgNPs are generally synthesized through chemical, physical and biological approaches involving a myriad of methods. As each approach confers unique advantages and challenges, a trends analysis of literature for the AgNPs synthesis using different types of synthesis were also reviewed through a bibliometric approach. A sum of 10,278 publications were analyzed on the annual numbers of publication relating to AgNPs and biological, chemical or physical synthesis from 2010 to 2020 using Microsoft Excel applied to the Scopus publication database. Furthermore, another bibliometric clustering and mapping software were used to study the occurrences of author keywords on the biomedical applications of biosynthesized AgNPs and a total collection of 224 documents were found, sourced from articles, reviews, book chapters, conference papers and reviews. AgNPs provides an excellent, dependable, and effective solution for seven major concerns: as antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, bone healing, bone cement, dental applications and wound healing. In recent years, AgNPs have been employed in biomedical sector due to their antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer properties. Abstract: This article investigates and discusses 3D property research, as evidenced by conference papers and other publications written in English, to analyze the distribution of interest areas and the occurrence of legal aspects and trends within 3D property research occurring between 2001 and 2011. A total of 156 publications on 3D property were examined. The publications were classified in four different categories, which represent different aspects of 3D property: legal, technical, registration and organizational. More 3D property research has been conducted on technical aspects and registration than legal aspects. In the legal category, most studies addressed national legislation and the practical use of (national) legislation. The authors believe that further fundamental legal research on 3D property is needed. The quantity of research could be increased, for example, by promoting international discussion and increasing the number of comparative legal studies on 3D property rights. Additional and more focused attention should be given to international matters, such as comparative studies on the use of 3D property concepts, the development of (international) 3D property terminology and cooperation between 3D property unit owners. The action required to stem the environmental and social implications of climate change depends crucially on how humankind shapes technology, economy, lifestyle and policy. With transport CO2 emissions accounting for about a quarter of the total, we examine the contribution of CO2 output by scientific travel. Thankfully for the reputation of the scientific community, CO2 emissions associated with the trips required to present a paper at a scientific conference account for just 0.003% of the yearly total. However, with CO2 emissions for a single conference trip amounting to 7% of an average individual’s total CO2 emissions, scientists should lead by example by demonstrating leadership in addressing the issue. The article discusses a study on the publication pattern of physical research laboratory (PRL) scientists in Ahmedabad, India. The study used data about research papers published in journals, conference proceedings and invited talks. Results showed that the number of multiple and double authored papers surpassed the number of single authored papers during the period from 1997 to 2006. The study also determined types of collaborative papers in conference proceedings during the period.

The article discusses a study that determined the format and type of information resources favored by library and information science (LIS) researchers. Topics covered include conducting a citation analysis by using questionnaires for analyzing data from references used in selected copies of articles. Findings showed that LIS researchers are using non electronic sources than the electronic format and relying more on government publications, conference papers, theses and operating manuals.

Background: Biomedical event extraction has attracted substantial attention as it can assist researchers in understanding the plethora of interactions among genes that are described in publications in molecular biology. While most recent work has focused on abstracts, the BioNLP 2011 shared task evaluated the submitted systems on both abstracts and full papers. In this article, we describe our submission to the shared task which decomposes event extraction into a set of classification tasks that can be learned either independently or jointly using the search-based structured prediction framework. Our intention is to explore how these two learning paradigms compare in the context of the shared task. Results: We report that models learned using search-based structured prediction exceed the accuracy of independently learned classifiers by 8.3 points in F-score, with the gains being more pronounced on the more complex Regulation events (13.23 points). Furthermore, we show how the trade-off between recall and precision can be adjusted in both learning paradigms and that search-based structured prediction achieves better recall at all precision points. Finally, we report on experiments with a simple domain-adaptation method, resulting in the second-best performance achieved by a single system. Conclusions: We demonstrate that joint inference using the search-based structured prediction framework can achieve better performance than independently learned classifiers, thus demonstrating the potential of this learning paradigm for event extraction and other similarly complex information-extraction tasks. The article presents a study which explored bibliometric research quality assessment exercises' impact on academic development during specialist inter-disciplinary and small conferences in Australia. The study described the experiences of conference organizers, academics, and researchers. Results suggest the need for the scientific committees and conference organizers to consider various strategies for maximising conference papers' bibliometric impact like the development of alliances between peer-reviewed journals. Meanwhile, it mentions the importance of the study to the conference participants and organizers who are adapting the bibliometrics culture.

As a definition, Human–Machine Interface (HMI) enables a person to interact with a device. Starting from elementary equipment, the recent development of novel techniques and unobtrusive devices for biosignals monitoring paved the way for a new class of HMIs, which take such biosignals as inputs to control various applications. The current survey aims to review the large literature of the last two decades regarding biosignal-based HMIs for assistance and rehabilitation to outline state-of-the-art and identify emerging technologies and potential future research trends. PubMed and other databases were surveyed by using specific keywords. The found studies were further screened in three levels (title, abstract, full-text), and eventually, 144 journal papers and 37 conference papers were included. Four macrocategories were considered to classify the different biosignals used for HMI control: biopotential, muscle mechanical motion, body motion, and their combinations (hybrid systems). The HMIs were also classified according to their target application by considering six categories: prosthetic control, robotic control, virtual reality control, gesture recognition, communication, and smart environment control. An ever-growing number of publications has been observed over the last years. Most of the studies (about 67%) pertain to the assistive field, while 20% relate to rehabilitation and 13% to assistance and rehabilitation. A moderate increase can be observed in studies focusing on robotic control, prosthetic control, and gesture recognition in the last decade. In contrast, studies on the other targets experienced only a small increase. Biopotentials are no longer the leading control signals, and the use of muscle mechanical motion signals has experienced a considerable rise, especially in prosthetic control. Hybrid technologies are promising, as they could lead to higher performances. The present article reviews and compares the immunomodulatory activities of Crocus sativus (C. sativus) and Nigella sativa (N. sativa) and their main bioactive compounds. Immunomodulatory effects of these plants, especially with respect to Th1 and Th2 cytokines, are discussed based on relevant articles, books, and conference papers published in English until the end of April 2020, that were retrieved from Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar databases. C. sativus and its constituents increase immunoglobulin (Ig-)G, interleukin 2 (IL)-2, interferon gamma (IFN-γ), and IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio, but decreased IgM, IL-10 and IL-4 secretion. N. sativa extract and thymoquinone reduce the levels of IL-2, -4, -10, and -12, while enhance IFN-γ and serum IgG1 and 2a. The reviewed articles indicate that C. sativus and N. sativa and their constituents could be potentially considered promising treatments for disorders associated with immune-dysregulation such as asthma and cancer. There are multiple ways of defining nonmonotonic inference relations based on a conditional knowledge base. While the axiomatic system P is an important standard for such plausible nonmonotonic reasoning, inference relations obtained from system Z or from c-representations have been designed which go beyond system P by selecting preferred models for inference. For any class of models M , we propose the notion of weakly skeptical inference, first introduced in an ECAI conference paper this article revises and extends, that lies between skeptical and credulous inference with respect to M. Weakly skeptical c-inference properly extends skeptical c-inference, but avoids disadvantages of a too liberal credulous c-inference. We extend the concepts of skeptical, weakly skeptical, and credulous c-inference modes by taking models obtained from different minimality criteria into account. We illustrate the usefulness of the obtained inference relations and show that they fulfill various desirable properties put forward for nonmonotonic reasoning. Furthermore, we elaborate in detail the interrelationships among the inference relations when taking the different inference modes and various classes of minimal models into account. Placental abruption is the separation of the placenta from the lining of the uterus before childbirth. It is an infrequent perinatal complication with serious after-effects and a marked risk of maternal and fetal mortality. Despite the fact that numerous placental abruption risk factors are known, the pathophysiology of this issue is multifactorial and not entirely clear. The aim of this review was to examine the current state of knowledge concerning the molecular changes on the maternal–fetal interface occurring in placental abruption. Only original research articles describing studies published in English until the 15 March 2021 were considered eligible. Reviews, book chapters, case studies, conference papers and opinions were excluded. The systematic literature search of PubMed/MEDLINE and Scopus databases identified 708 articles, 22 of which were analyzed. The available evidence indicates that the disruption of the immunological processes on the maternal–fetal interface plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of placental abruption. The features of chronic non-infectious inflammation and augmented immunological cytotoxic response were found to be present in placental abruption samples in the reviewed studies. Various molecules participate in this process, with only a few being examined. More advanced research is needed to fully explain this complicated process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our community publishes peer-reviewed journal, magazine, and conference papers and articles sharing a commitment to originality and to quality content and writing. These papers vary in their characteristics and style, depending on their objectives and their targeted readership. The IEEE Publication Services and Products Board (PSPB) Operations Manual (OM) also provides guidelines differentiating these paper types. There is confusion sometimes, however, concerning the features of magazine papers in particular. Some authors, especially early-career authors, do not fully appreciate certain differences between magazine papers and their journal, transaction, and letter counterparts. This can create a challenge for magazine editors and may result in delay, or rejection, of papers that could have been accepted if written with a better understanding of what magazines are about. We focus our attention here on this issue as it applies to IEEE Communications Magazine (ComMag) in particular. Our goal is to help our new and/or young authors who want to publish in ComMag to customize their writing to the nature of this magazine and enable them to author papers with higher chances of acceptance. Deterioration of bridge infrastructure is a serious concern to transport and government agencies as it declines serviceability and reliability of bridges and jeopardizes public safety. Maintenance and rehabilitation needs of bridge infrastructure are periodically monitored and assessed, typically every two years. Existing inspection techniques, such as visual inspection, are time-consuming, subjective, and often incomplete. Non-destructive testing (NDT) using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been gaining momentum for bridge monitoring in the recent years, particularly due to enhanced accessibility and cost efficiency, deterrence of traffic closure, and improved safety during inspection. The primary objective of this study is to conduct a comprehensive review of the application of UAVs in bridge condition monitoring, used in conjunction with remote sensing technologies. Remote sensing technologies such as visual imagery, infrared thermography, LiDAR, and other sensors, integrated with UAVs for data acquisition are analyzed in depth. This study compiled sixty-five journal and conference papers published in the last two decades scrutinizing NDT-based UAV systems. In addition to comparison of stand-alone and integrated NDT-UAV methods, the facilitation of bridge inspection using UAVs is thoroughly discussed in the present article in terms of ease of use, accuracy, cost-efficiency, employed data collection tools, and simulation platforms.
