I Guest Editor i Graph Preface The First International Conference on Nanofluids (ICNF2019) together with the second European Symposium on Nanofluids (ESNF2019) [[1]] was held at the Universitat Jaume I, Castello, Spain, during June 26-28, 2019. Then they varied the nanoparticle concentration distribution at the inlet and found that the temperature field in the fluid and in the pipe depends strongly on the nanoparticle concentration distribution. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were also used to characterize the synthesized nanoparticles. [Extracted from the article]

This guest editorial presents the papers contributing to the 15th IFIP WG 8.1 Working Conference on the Practice of Enterprise Modelling (PoEM 2022). The best papers were selected for invitation for revision and significant expansion. Five papers were finally accepted in the special section. Objective: To determine journal publication rates of scientific papers presented orally at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2010, with comparison of country data to ECR 2000. Methods: All oral presentations from ECR 2010 were evaluated for publication between 2010 and 2014 using the MEDLINE database. Countries, collaborations, subspecialties, modalities and study design were ranked by publication percentage. Chi-square tests were used to compare publication percentages for each category of variables. Hazard ratios (HR) were calculated for each country relative to the host nation, Austria. ECR 2010 country statistics were compared with analogous data from ECR 2000. Results: In total, 360/840 abstracts were subsequently published (43 %). The author's country of origin ( p = 0.02), subspecialty ( p = 0.02) and study design ( p = 0.001) were significantly associated with subsequent publication. Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Germany were among the top six countries by publication percentage in 2000 and 2010. In 2010, Switzerland had the highest publication rate (62 %) and HR in comparison to Austria (HR 2.62 [1.31-5.25], p = 0.01). Three Asian nations increased relative publication rates over the 10-year period. Conclusion: Several European nations consistently convert relatively high percentages of oral abstracts at ECR into publications, and the influence of Asian countries is increasing. The 8th biennial national conference of the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers (APAHC) was held in Detroit, MI, March 9-11, 2017. All speakers were invited to contribute manuscripts based on their conference presentations to this special issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychology in Medical Settings, and five presenters did so. A surface chemical reaction network (sCRN, Qian and Winfree in DNA Computing and Molecular Programming: 20th International Conference, DNA 20, Kyoto, Japan, September 22–26, 2014. Proceedings 20. Springer, 2014) is an emergent paradigm for molecular programming, in which a chemical molecule is placed at each site of a lattice, and each molecule may undergo either bi-molecular reactions associated with one of the nearest molecules or uni-molecular reactions autonomously. The lattice structure as well as the localized reactions between molecules facilitate an effective formalization of sCRNs in the framework of cellular automata. This formalism not only allows a systematic evaluation of the complexity of a sCRN, but also enables a formal approach to reduce the model's complexity for the sake of improving its effectiveness. To this end, this paper proposes a new sCRN model that has less complexity measured in terms of the numbers of both cell states and transition rules. Especially, universality of computations will be shown by implementing all asynchronous circuits, including the well-known full-adder, into the sCRN. The decreased complexity may enhance the feasibility of the proposed sCRN model for physical implementation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held the 3rd International Symposium on Trends in Radiopharmaceuticals, (ISTR-2023) at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, during the week of 16–21 April 2023. This procedural paper summarizes highlights from symposium presentations, posters, panel discussions and satellite meetings, and provides additional resources that may be useful to researchers working with diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in the academic, government and industry setting amongst IAEA Member States and beyond. More than 550 participants in person from 88 Member States attended the ISTR-2023. Over 360 abstracts were presented from all over the world by a diverse group of global scientists working with radiopharmaceuticals. Given this group of international radiochemists is unique to ISTR (IAEA funding enabled many to attend), there was an invaluable wealth of knowledge on the global state of the radiopharmaceutical sciences present at the meeting. The intent of this Proceedings paper is to share this snapshot from our international colleagues with the broader radiopharmaceutical sciences community by highlighting presentations from the conference on the following topics: Isotope Production and Radiochemistry, Industrial Insights, Regional Trends, Training and Education, Women in the Radiopharmaceutical Sciences, and Future Perspectives and New Initiatives. The authors of this paper are employees of IAEA, members of the ISTR-2023 Organizing Committee and/or members of the EJNMMI Radiopharmacy and Chemistry Editorial Board who attended ISTR-2023. Overall, ISTR-2023 fostered the successful exchange of scientific ideas around every aspect of the radiopharmaceutical sciences. It was well attended by a diverse mix of radiopharmaceutical scientists from all over the world, and the oral and poster presentations provided a valuable update on the current state-of-the-art of the field amongst IAEA Member States. Presentations as well as networking amongst the attendees resulted in extensive knowledge transfer amongst the various stakeholders representing 88 IAEA Member States. This was considered particularly valuable for attendees from Member States where nuclear medicine and the radiopharmaceutical sciences are still relatively new. The article discusses the second white paper by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. It mentions that the said white paper provides details on the natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) in terms of issues such as in gastric closure, and peritoneal access. Moreover, information on the 2010 International NOTES summit meeting held in Chicago, Illinois on July 7-10, 2010 is presented.

Refereed conferences require every submission to be reviewed by members of a program committee (PC) in charge of selecting the conference program. There are many software packages available to manage the review process. Typically, in a bidding phase PC members express their personal preferences by ranking the submissions. This information is used by the system to compute an assignment of the papers to referees (PC members). We study the problem of assigning papers to referees. We propose to optimize a number of criteria that aim at achieving fairness among referees/papers. Some of these variants can be solved optimally in polynomial time, while others are NP-hard, in which case we design approximation algorithms. Experimental results strongly suggest that the assignments computed by our algorithms are considerably better than those computed by popular conference management software. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents information about several research papers which were presented during the conference of Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. The conference was held during November 25-26, 2004, in Liverpool, England. The first paper is "Totally Laparoscopic Anatomical Left Lateral Hepatic Sectionectomy: Technique and Initial Experience." Results show that totally laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy is feasible and safe in selected patients. Another study is "Applications of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Patients With Gastric Outlet Obstruction and Obstructive Jaundice." It was found that gastric and biliary bypass can be performed safely by the laparoscopic approach in all comers with benign or malignant disease who require surgery to palliate or prevent gastric outlet obstruction or obstructive jaundice.

Purpose: The European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) congress is an important venue, and the research presented can be a critical source of information used to impact clinical decisions and health policies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of evidence of clinical free papers presented at the ESSKA congress from 2008 to 2016. Moreover, this study evaluated whether there were any changes in the distribution of level of evidence over time.Methods: Two reviewers screened the free papers presented at the ESSKA biannual congresses 2008-2016 for clinical evidence. Clinical papers included observational studies and trials involving direct interaction between an investigator and human subjects. Biomechanical studies, technique demonstrations, cadaveric studies, and panel discussions were excluded. The reviewers independently graded their level of evidence from level I (e.g. high-quality randomized trials) to level IV (e.g. case series and reports) using the classification system published by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.Results: Of 1036 free papers that were identified, 729 met the inclusion criteria and were evaluated. Overall, 18% of studies were level I, 24% level II, 25% level III, and 33% level IV evidence. There was a significant improvement in level of evidence over time (p < 0.0001), with the proportion of level I studies increasing most dramatically (9% in 2008, 20% in 2012, 24% in 2016). Free papers studying the knee had higher levels of evidence than those evaluating other joints (p = 0.002).Conclusion: The level of evidence of clinical free papers presented at the ESSKA congress between 2008 and 2016 is high relative to other orthopaedic meetings. In this consensus paper, the Belgian Bone Club aims to provide a state of the art on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of osteoporosis in frail individuals, including patients with anorexia nervosa, patients on dialysis, cancer patients, persons with sarcopenia, and the oldest old. All these conditions may indeed induce bone loss that is superimposed on physiological bone loss and often remains under-recognized and under-treated. This is of particular concern because of the major burden of osteoporotic fractures in terms of morbidity, mortality, and economic cost. Therefore, there is an urgent need to appreciate bone loss associated with these conditions, as this may improve diagnosis and management of bone loss and fracture risk in clinical practice. Representations of higher education in fiction-based sources contribute to forming public perceptions of academia, and so are a form of public pedagogy. Within popular culture representations, understandings of academics are constructed using particular tropes which build shared meanings of the profession. Conferences are one of these tropes and can thus be used as a focus to explore the construction of the academic profession in popular culture representations of higher education. This paper draws on a research project which explored representations of conferences in narrative fiction texts (novels, graphic novels, short stories). In this paper, we analyse references to conferences for what they teach us about the academic profession. The paper is based on analysis of 98 symbolic references to conferences from a sample of 23 fictional texts. Symbolic references are short references which serve as a shorthand to signal aspects of the academic profession, and in this paper, they have been analysed in terms of what they portray and where they position the reader. The paper argues that popular culture representations of academia are pedagogical, in that they show the profession to be desirable to others but encourage a disidentification with academics, reinforcing the exclusionary nature of the profession. This special section is devoted to a selection of papers that appeared originally in the Proceedings of TACAS 2001, the 7th International Conference on Tools and Algorithms for the Construction and Analysis of Systems [1] which took place in Genova, Italy in April 2001 as a constituent event of the European joint conferences on theory and Practice of Software. All papers present approaches, tools and algorithms that aim at extending the scope of formal techniques (coverage of systems specifications, data structures, size, and their trade-offs) for validation, verification, and testing of software systems. They are by no means a complete account of the numerous ways in which real software and software systems may become subject to rigorous investigation, but they provide an interesting sampling of novel approaches towards scalability of formal methods-based validation. László Székelyhidi, a mathematician, was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1952. He initially wanted to pursue a career in music but ultimately decided to study mathematics at Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest. After facing challenges during his entrance exam due to political factors, he redirected his application to Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen. He continued to play music throughout his university years and became involved in research, publishing papers and attending international conferences. He held various teaching positions and received numerous awards for his research. Székelyhidi's sons also became mathematicians, and he continues to pursue his passion for music. Predicting the motion of near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) is a complex task that requires the use of sophisticated technology, various techniques, and significant computational resources. In recent decades, significant progress has been achieved in this area, but many problems still await their solution. In this paper, we consider the main methods used for predicting the motion of NEAs at various stages, starting from observations and ending with the study of motion specifics such as close encounters and planetary collisions, orbital and secular resonances, as well as chaoticity and predictability of motion. In this paper, a new lattice-based password-authenticated key exchange protocol (PAKE) is proposed for the post-quantum era. The constructed Saber.PAKE is designed as a PAKE version of Saber (D'Anvers, in: International conference on cryptology in Africa, Springer, Cham, 2018), one of the finalist key encapsulation mechanisms of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's post-quantum secure standardization process. It is designed as a three-pass protocol and follows an explicit authentication approach. The hardness assumption is based on the module learning with rounding (MLWR) problem. To obtain post-quantum secure lattice-based PAKE, the password-authenticated key exchange (PAK) (MacKenzie, in: a P1363. submission to the IEEE P1363 Working Group, 2002) design idea is adapted to MLWR. To the best of our knowledge, Saber.PAKE is the first PAKE protocol based on (ring/module) learning with rounding ((R/M)LWR) problems. By considering the reconciliation bounds, the correctness analysis of Saber.PAKE is presented. The robustness against dictionary and common attacks are examined in the random oracle model. The proposed PAKE also provides perfect forward secrecy and mutual authentication. The experimental results show that it has the relatively smallest CPU cycles, message size, and runtime than the other lattice-based PAKE protocols. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Molecular modeling and the art of computer-aided drug discovery seldom make much use of statistics, despite being fields that can not calculate important properties with great reliability. The 2013 CADD Gordon conference intends to examine what prevents a more effective use of statistics in routine modeling and to raise consciousness as to what is possible. Time constant equilibration reduction (TICER) is a local model reduction method based on Gaussian elimination for RC networks which was introduced in Sheehan (1999 IEEE/ACM international conference on computer-aided design. Digest of technical papers (Cat. No.99CH37051), pp 200–203, 1999). The main idea of TICER is selectively removing the non-port nodes of the circuits to produce a smaller RC circuit. Since proposed, TICER has been widely used in the electronic engineering, and lots of practices validate its reliability and robustness. It is a practical method to meet the needs of reduction and can produce a realizable RC circuit with good accuracy, and this is the reason why TICER has been used until now. Later, many scholars proposed RC-realizable reduction methods based on TICER. Quite surprisingly, as far as the authors know, there exists no rigorous analysis on this simple but wonderful method in the literature. In this short communication, we prove the optimal first-order asymptotic accuracy of TICER and present numerical evidences to validate our theoretical results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A directory is presented of the free research papers presented at the 2008 conference of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroplasty. Abstracts of the papers are also presented.

To determine the rate at which abstracts orally presented at the ECR 2000 were published between 2000-2004, and to identify predictive factors of publication and differences between abstracts and subsequently published papers. Specific search profiles were devised to retrieve items from the Medline database. From 1020 abstracts originating from 39 countries, 479 articles (publication rate 47%) were subsequently published in 139 Medline-indexed journals, most frequently in European Radiology (14%). Country of origin statistically (P<0.0001) influences the subsequent publication of the abstract, Germany having the highest number of presentations (n=343) and derived articles (publication rate 54%). Abstracts presented by authors from the USA (n=21) had the highest publication rate (76%). Most papers were published within the first 3 years after the meeting, as original articles and in English-language journals. Both the study sample size and the first author frequently changed. Chest and cardiac studies had the highest publication rates (56%, both). In summary, abstracts presented at the ECR 2000 had a high publication rate in Medline-indexed journals. Country of origin and subspecialty of presentation appeared to influence subsequent full publication. More articles were published in European Radiology than in other journal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
