Within the context of fewest-switch surface hopping (FSSH) dynamics, one often wishes to remove the angular component of the derivative coupling between states J and K . In a previous set of papers, Shu et al. [J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 11, 1135–1140 (2020)] posited one approach for such a removal based on direct projection, while we isolated a second approach by constructing and differentiating a rotationally invariant basis. Unfortunately, neither approach was able to demonstrate a one-electron operator O ̂ whose matrix element J O ̂ K was the angular component of the derivative coupling. Here, we show that a one-electron operator can, in fact, be constructed efficiently in a semi-local fashion. Performing joint analysis of gene expression datasets from different experiments can present challenges brought on by multiple factors—differences in equipment, protocols, climate etc. "Cross-study normalization" is a general term for transformations aimed at eliminating such effects, thus making datasets more comparable. However, joint analysis of datasets from different species is rarely done, and there are no dedicated normalization methods for such inter-species analysis. In order to test the usefulness of cross-studies normalization methods for inter-species analysis, we first applied three cross-study normalization methods, EB, DWD and XPN, to RNA sequencing datasets from different species. We then developed a new approach to evaluate the performance of cross-study normalization in eliminating experimental effects, while also maintaining the biologically significant differences between species and conditions. Our results indicate that all normalization methods performed relatively well in the cross-species setting. We found XPN to be better at reducing experimental differences, and found EB to be better at preserving biological differences. Still, according to our in-silico experiments, in all methods it is not possible to enforce the preservation of the biological differences in the normalization process. In addition to the study above, in this work we propose a new dedicated cross-studies and cross-species normalization method. Our aim is to address the shortcoming mentioned above: in the normalization process, we wish to reduce the experimental differences while preserving the biological differences. We term our method as CSN, and base it on the performance evaluation criteria mentioned above. Repeating the same experiments, the CSN method obtained a better and more balanced conservation of biological differences within the datasets compared to existing methods. To summarize, we demonstrate the usefulness of cross-study normalization methods in the inter-species settings, and suggest a dedicated cross-study cross-species normalization method that will hopefully open the way to the development of improved normalization methods for the inter-species settings. In online shopping, user perspectives transit dynamically from abstract categories to concrete subcategories within a short period. We propose a perspective-estimation system that estimates the dynamic, short-term perspectives of users by inferring a hierarchy of categories based on their actions. The proposed system analyzes the wish list rankings of users and their operational histories to extract the categories emphasized at that moment. It then employs formal concept analysis to infer the hierarchical structure of categories, thereby visualizing the dynamic short-term perspective. In experiments involving 57 participants, the proposed method rates its match with user perspectives on a seven-point scale, achieving an average score of 4.84, outperforming the feature estimation method using latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), which scored 4.36. The statistical significance was confirmed through the Wilcoxon rank-sum test with a statistic W=4.80 and a p-value of 1.56×10-6. The term tafsir, which means interpretation, explanation and expansion of the meaning, is the work written to explain the verses of the Quran or the branch of religious science that explains the meaning of the Quran. The Quran has a very rich content in terms of both subject and meaning. That's why it doesn't seem possible for people who don't have good knowledge to understand the orders and prohibitions in it. For this reason, tafsir has been seriously needed since the early days of Islam. During the Ottoman period, tafsir books were written in Persian as well as in Turkish and Arabic. One of the Persian tafsir books was written by Ibrahim b. Dervis-i Bukhari, about whose life there is no information. This work of Ibrahim-i Bukhari consists of the commentary of the Surah Qadr. This work, which is a literary commentary, was dedicated to Semiz Ali Pasha, one of the Ottoman Grand Viziers. Before writing his work, the author read the interpretation books written about the Surah Qadr and tried to rewrite the Surah in question in line with the wishes of his friends and colleagues. In the work, verses, hadiths and poems were used. In this study, the work called Tafsir of the Surah al-Qadr, written in Persian by Ibrahim-i Bukhari, which is in the Hagia Sophia collection of the Suleymaniye Library (nr. 00411), will be discussed in detail for the first time. The Book of Kings is the main source for reconstructing the chronology of the monarchic period in Israel, but it contains many contradictions and raises difficulties that make the reconstruction disputed to this day. The prevailing approach tends to attribute historical credibility to the biblical data, while few have suggested that some of the numbers have been deliberately manipulated to create symbolic or meaningful schemas. The purpose of the present study is to reinforce the artificiality of these numbers by presenting two cases of a »climax-decline pattern« at key points in the Book of Kings' chronology, in which a king with the longest reign in the history of a kingdom is followed by a period of deterioration towards disaster over the same duration. If these regnal years have been reworked to incorporate them into the book's literary design, then they may mislead the historian who wishes to use them to reconstruct a relative or absolute chronology. Introduction Methods Results Conclusion Dialysis adequacy is traditionally calculated from pre‐ and post‐hemodialysis session serum urea concentrations and expressed as the urea reduction ratio, or Kt/Vurea. However, with increasing hemodiafiltration usage, we wished to determine whether there were any differences between standard Kt/Vurea equations and directly measured spent dialysate urea clearance.Urea clearance was measured from collected effluent dialysate and compared with various other methods of Kt/Vurea calculation, including change in total body urea from measuring pre‐ and post‐total body water with bioimpedance and the Watson equation, by standard Kt/V equations, and online clearance measurements using effective ionic dialysance (OLC).We compared urea clearance in 41 patients, 56.1% male, mean age 69.3 ± 12.6 years with 87.8% treated by hemodiafiltration. Reduction in total body urea was greater when estimating changes in total body urea, compared to measured dialysate losses of 58.4% (48.5–67.6) vs 71.6% (62.1–78), p < 0.01. Sessional urea clearance (Kt/Vurea) was greater using the online Solute‐Solver program compared to OLC, median 1.45(1.13–1.75) vs 1.2 (0.93–1.4), and 2nd generation Kt/V equations 1.3 (1.02–1.66), p < 0.01, but not different from estimated total body urea clearance 1.36 (1.15–1.73) and dialysate clearance 1.36 (1.07–1.76). The mean bias compared to the Solute‐Solver program was greatest with OLC (−0.25), compared to second‐generation equations (−0.02), estimated total body clearance (−0.02) and measured dialysate clearance (−0.01).This study demonstrated that the result from equations estimating urea clearance indirectly from pre‐ and postblood samples from hemo‐ and hemodiafiltration treatments was highly correlated with direct measurements of dialysate urea clearance. To negotiate quality in early childhood education and care, we must ask from different perspectives what constitutes a good centre for children. The children themselves have only recently been identified as a resource to contribute to that discussion. Several studies have described profound methodologies to obtain children's perspectives by observing, interviewing and conducting group discussions. This article introduces research that combines exploring children's perspectives with sustained shared thinking (SST). Focussing on the dialogue following the rules of SST, we conducted and analysed group discussions with children about their lives within a children's centre in Berlin, Germany. The children were asked to think about aspects of quality. They expressed their ideas, wishes, likes and dislikes within the centre explicitly and profoundly. Following the lead of these children, a dialogue developed in which children and researchers contributed equally and led the way. This showed how well children could act out their agency and were capable of expressing rational and reasonable opinions. Here, we argue that SST helps to see the pedagogical side of exploring children's perspectives and acknowledges this as a pedagogical and political act. Resource quality is an important concept in ecology and evolution that attempts to capture the fitness benefits a resource affords to an organism. Yet "quality" is a multivariate concept, potentially affected by many variables pertaining to the resource, its surroundings, and the resource chooser. Researchers often use a small number of proxy variables to simplify their estimation of resource quality, but without vetting their proxies against a wider set of potential quality estimators this approach risks overlooking potentially important characteristics that can explain patterns of resource use in their study systems. Here we used Neolamprologus multifasciatus, a group‐living cichlid fish that utilizes empty snail shells as shelter resources, to examine how shells were used by, and partitioned among, group members in relation to a range of attributes, including shell size, intactness, texture, spatial position, and usage by heterospecifics. This approach generated a comprehensive picture of what characteristics contribute to the attractiveness and quality of each shell resource, confirming the importance of two previously proposed shell characteristics, size and intactness, but highlighting the influences of other unexplored variables, including shell spatial position and usage by heterospecifics. We also present a generally applicable "resource attractiveness index" as a means to estimate resource quality based on resource choice data. This index incorporates information from any number of resource characteristics and is of particular use when researchers wish to quantify resource value, but many characteristics jointly contribute to the value and attractiveness of the resource. This article asks why Stanley Kubrick's longstanding wish to direct the film version of Louis Begley's 1991 novel Wartime Lies never came to fruition. In Begley's novel, the protagonist Maciek recounts the experience of living in hiding under a false identity in Nazi-occupied Poland. Kubrick drafted a series of quite different plotlines and conclusions for the film version, to be called Aryan Papers, in which Maciek's aunt Tania takes a highly dramatic role in their destiny. The more Kubrick changed Aryan Papers, in response to the pressure of Hollywood expectations and the cultural valorization of active Holocaust resistance, the less it resembled the very work he had chosen to adapt. A systematic review of the wish to hasten death among people with life-limiting conditions was published in 2011. Since then, other reviews and primary studies have been published that have added to knowledge regarding the conceptual definition, aetiology and assessment of the wish to hasten death. To provide an updated synthesis of the literature on the wish to hasten death in people with life-limiting conditions. An overview of systematic reviews and primary studies was conducted, using an integrative review method. PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science databases were searched, from their inception until 2023. We included all systematic reviews published to date and all primary studies not included in these systematic reviews. Eleven systematic reviews and 35 primary studies were included. We propose that the phenomenon may usefully be considered as existing along a continuum, defined by the extent to which thoughts of dying are linked to action. A total of nine assessment tools have been described. The reported prevalence of the wish to hasten death appears to be influenced by the wording used in assessment instruments, as well as by the cut-off used when applying a particular tool. Depression, pain, functional disability, decreased sense of meaning in life, the sense of being a burden and reduced quality of life are the most widely reported related factors. This overview underscores the need for clinical strategies that can identify different manifestations of the wish to hasten death among people with life-limiting conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Phenomenology questions the centrality that Kant attributes to the “I think.” It claims that on the pre‐reflective level experience is selfless as unity is given. I call this the “unity argument.” The paper explores the significance of this claim by focusing on the work of Edmund Husserl. What interests me is that although the unity argument claims that we can account for the unity of experience without appealing to the an “I think,” Husserl agrees with Kant that experience must be owned. Moreover, he endorses Kant's dictum that ‘the “I think” must be capable of accompanying all my presentations’. The aim of the paper is to explore how Husserl can consistently appeal to Kant's account of the “I think” and at the same time contend that on the pre‐reflective level experience is selfless. The thesis I wish to advance is that although the unity argument acknowledges that experience is necessarily mine, it reveals that it is a necessary feature of self‐reference that I have never taken absolute ownership over my experience. AbstractThis study examines the reasons of people with dementia request euthanasia and how these reasons change over time with a special focus on reasons related to family. In addition, it examines how family relates to their loved one’s euthanasia wish. Seven people with dementia and a euthanasia wish in the Netherlands were interviewed, and three years later, two of them and five family members were interviewed again. Four themes were identified using thematic analyses: (1) Protecting the relationship from the impact of dementia; (2) Private domain as the primary setting to discuss euthanasia; (3) Implicit expectation to respect and agree with the euthanasia wish; (4) Experienced responsibilities of family regarding the euthanasia wish. Professionals should be aware of the position of family and the interrelatedness of the person’s concern for family happiness and families’ moral commitment to agree and support the wish. Universals in the Platonic tradition were intended to play both metaphysical and epistemological roles. The contemporary debate around universals has focused overwhelmingly on the former, with even ‘platonists’ typically holding that our knowledge of universals is derived from our knowledge of particulars. In contrast, I wish to argue for the epistemological primacy of the universal: specifically, I defend the thesis that we perceive particulars as a result of knowing universals, and not the other way around. My argument draws from the work of Malebranche, who notoriously contended that we see ordinary objects through the immutable ‘ideas’. I conclude with the suggestion that the resulting account of the relationship between our knowledge of universals and our perception of particulars may be thought of as a kind of Platonic indirect realism. In this article, we share insights from Raíces y Rutas, a digital storytelling workshop series which brought together Latinx immigrant families to share stories, make connections and build agency. Using popular education methods, we created a space for participants to engage in deep, communal thinking and theorizing. Participants developed the trust and confidence needed to share challenging experiences and politicized funds of knowledge using multimodal methods. Participants were able to shape the narrative that they wanted to be told about their lives. In the generalized linear model (GLM) setup, the information matrix depends on the unknown parameters of the model. In such a situation, an experimenter has to adopt the approach of finding local optimal designs i.e. first guess the best value for the parameters and then calculate the optimal designs [see Chernoff (1953)]. In this paper, locally R-optimal designs for the Poisson regression model with two parameters including intercept are discussed. The R-optimality criterion has been proposed in the literature as an alternative to the most frequently used D-optimality criterion when the experimenter wishes to minimize the volume of the confidence region for unknown parameters based on Bonferroni t-intervals [see Dette (1997)]. Estimating compensation for moral damage is more difficult than estimating compensation for material damage because there are no certain specific criteria for estimating it. In addition, the goal of compensation is not always to restore the situation to what it was as much as it is aimed at granting the injured compensation to satisfy him equal to the damage he suffered, compensation is a judicial means to eliminate or mitigate the damage, and it is the general penalty for civil liability. Objectives: This study aims to demonstrate the approach of the Jordanian legislator in estimating compensation for moral damage and the judicial position on this, the legal problems of this and the proposed methods in estimating compensation for moral damage, Methods: Adopted the descriptive analytical method to identify a sufficient comprehensive characterization the topic under study. Results: The results of this study showed that the Jordanian legislator in estimating compensation for moral damage was on two lines, the first is an estimate of a lump sum specified in legislation or a system, and the second is an estimate of a lump sum by an expert, also there is a fundamental problem, which is the absence of a legislative text that sets clear criteria for estimating compensation for literary damage, in order to find a proposed method for estimating compensation for literary damage. Conclusion: The study concluded with a recommendation in which the researchers wished the legislator to find a legal regulation represented by legislative texts containing an objective criterion for adjusting the estimate of compensation and avoiding factual and legal problems, providing for a fair way in legislation to estimate compensation for moral damage. In this editorial of the Journal for Individual Psychology, the psychoanalytic identity and the challenges for the next generation of psychoanalysts are discussed. It is emphasized that analysts should maintain distance from topics such as religion, politics, and societal changes, while still interacting with the world and being good practitioners. The article emphasizes that the identity as an analyst becomes difficult when times are turbulent and the external world contains so much dynamism. The issue is dedicated to the emergence of newly licensed colleagues and showcases examples of how art becomes real and creates identity. In his remarkable new book, Emotion and Virtue, Sreenivasan defends the view that, in the case of many virtues, in order for an exemplar of each of these virtues to be a reliable judge of what that virtue requires in specific circumstances, she must possess a particular, morally rectified, emotional trait. In this article, I raise two challenges to “the argument from salience” that Sreenivasan offers in favor of this view. First, I argue that, although Sreenivasan wishes to remain neutral about different philosophical theories of emotions, the success of his argument depends, in fact, on the outcome of the debate about the nature of emotions. Second, I challenge the central claim of Sreenivasan's argument from salience, namely, that the possession of a morally rectified emotional trait, cleverness, and supplementary moral knowledge is sufficient to explain an agent's ability to reliably judge what a given virtue requires in specific circumstances. The history of slavery in the age of abolition is full of contradictions. The fate of enslaved persons depended on coincidences, on bad luck and good fortune. To understand what this meant in practice, this article focuses on questions of flight and longing. It zooms in on the colonial enclave Manado, North Sulawesi (Indonesia), where slavery was both an indigenous-regional and a local-colonial phenomenon, two worlds that were never fully separated. This exploration centers around two sets of archives: a slave register and a series of interviews with runaways. These fascinating documents were produced at the same time and in the same space, but provides us markedly different perspectives. What do they tell us about motives and experiences of people who escaped slavery? To what extend can we reconstruct life in and out of slavery when we combine these two sets of sources? The critical exploration that this article presents is meant as a step towards a fuller comprehension of the history of slavery in colonial Indonesia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In terminally ill individuals who would otherwise end their own lives, active voluntary euthanasia (AVE) can be seen as life-extending rather than life-shortening. Accordingly, AVE supports key pro-euthanasia arguments (appeals to autonomy and beneficence) and meets certain sanctity of life objections. This paper examines the extent to which a terminally ill individual's wish to donate organs after death contributes to those life-extension arguments. It finds that, in a terminally ill individual who wishes to avoid experiencing life he considers to be not worth living, and who also wishes to donate organs after death, AVE maximizes the likelihood that such donations will occur. The paper finds that the wish to donate organs strengthens the appeals to autonomy and beneficence, and fortifies the meeting of certain sanctity of life objections, achieved by life-extension arguments, and also generates appeals to justice that form novel life-extension arguments in favour of AVE in this context. Introduction: Early integration of palliative care and advance care planning (ACP) play an increasingly important role in the treatment of patients with advanced cancer. Advance directives (ADs) and patients' preferences regarding end-of-life (EoL) care are important aspects of ACP. In the outpatient setting, the prevalence of those documents and EoL care wishes is not well investigated, and changes in the longitudinal course are poorly understood. Methods: From June 2020 to August 2022, 67 outpatients with advanced solid tumors undergoing palliative cancer therapy were interviewed on the topic of ACP in a longitudinal course. From this database, the prevalence of ADs, healthcare proxy, EoL care wishes, and the need for counseling regarding these issues were collected. In addition, EoL care wishes were examined for their stability. Results: Fifty-one patients (76.1%) reported having ADs, and 41 patients (61.2%) reported having a healthcare proxy. Nineteen patients (37.3%) with ADs and 11 patients (68.7%) without ADs indicated a wish for counseling. Reported EoL care wishes remained stable over a period of approximately 6 months. Nevertheless, intraindividual changes occurred over time within the different EoL care preferences. The desire for resuscitation and dialysis were significantly higher in men than in women (resuscitation: 15 of 21 men [71.4%] versus 9 of 22 women [40.9%], odds ratio [OR] 3.611, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01–12.89, p = 0.048; dialysis: 16 of the 23 men [69.6%] versus 9 of the 25 women [36.0%], OR: 4.063, 95% CI: 1.22–13.58, p = 0.023). Conclusion: Our results show a reasonably high percentage of ADs and healthcare proxies in our study cohort. The observed stability of EoL requests encourages the implementation of structured queries for ADs and healthcare proxy for outpatients undergoing palliative treatment. Background: Youth healthcare has an important role in promoting a healthy lifestyle in young children in order to prevent lifestyle-related health problems. To aid youth healthcare in this task, a new lifestyle screening tool will be developed. The aim of this study was to explore how youth healthcare professionals (YHCP) could best support parents in improving their children's lifestyle using a new lifestyle screening tool for young children. Methods: We conducted four and seven focus groups among parents (N = 25) and YHCP (N = 25), respectively. Two main topics were addressed: the experiences with current practice of youth healthcare regarding lifestyle in young children, and the requirements for the lifestyle screening tool to be developed. The focus groups were recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using an inductive approach. Results: Both parents and YHCP indicated that young children's lifestyles are often discussed during youth healthcare appointments. While parents felt that this discussion could be more in-depth, YHCP mainly needed clues to continue the discussion. According to parents and YHCP, a new lifestyle screening tool for young children should be easy to use, take little time and provide courses of action. Moreover, it should be attractive to complete and align with the family concerned. Conclusions: According to parents and YHCP, a new lifestyle screening tool for young children could be useful to discuss specific lifestyle topics in more detail and to provide targeted advice. The synthesis of a novel disorazole C1 analogue is described, and its biological activity as a cytotoxic compound is reported. Based on our convergent and flexible route to the disorazole core, we wish to report a robust strategy to synthesize a non-symmetrical disorazole in which we couple one half of the molecule containing the naturally occurring oxazole heterocycle and the second half of the disorazole macrocycle containing a thiazole heterocycle. This resulted in a very unusual non-symmetrical disorazole C1 analogue containing two different heterocycles, and its biological activity was studied. Hegel imitates Aristotle to the point of emulating him. He overcomes the past without completely eliminating it. He contains it, updates it and keeps it alive. Background: In Austria, due to its history, only relatively little research on the topic of intellectual disabilities and dementia has been conducted to date. The present study thus aims to explore the challenges and tasks currently facing formal caregivers, together with assessing their wishes for further development. Methods: Ten semi‐structured interviews were held with formal caregivers. Interviews were transcribed and analysed by means of structured qualitative content analysis. Results: Caregivers must deal with conflicts between residents, and with increasing demands for care and emotional support. Education and training on dementia and intellectual disability are mostly of high quality, but still remain insufficient. Caregivers would like to see suitable adaptation of care premises, smaller groups, more staff and better training on dementia and intellectual disability. Conclusion: To ensure quality care and 'ageing in place', caregivers and providers need to pay greater attention to dementia‐related changes when planning and adapting services. We can also mark the difference between the classical conception of natural law as a judgement of practical reason that orders man towards the end inscribed in his nature, allowing him to recognize good and evil in order to achieve the former and avoid the latter, and the modern Hobbesian notion that conceives the lex naturalis as a general norm that obliges you to do what best preserves your life or omit what could destroy it or deprive you of the means to preserve it. In this note I have limited myself to describing some convergent and divergent developments arising from the innovative concepts present in The Ego and the Id. It could be argued that a part of the psychoanalytic movement wished to emphasize the function of the Ego (Anna Freud, Hartmann, Rapaport), while another part (Melanie Klein and her followers) delved into the dynamics of the Superego and the Id in primitive and pathological states of mind. I will examine three themes presents in The Ego and the Id: the assertion that a part of the Ego is unconscious; the idea that the death drive becomes part of the dynamics of melancholia and its Superego; the concept of fusion and defusion of the life and death instinct. Freud's writing represents a forge of new ideas that have made psychoanalysis ever more creative and capable of understanding the complexity and mysteriousness of the human mind. In this article, the author wishes to defend a naturalistic version of phenomenology rooted in and expropriated from William James's radical empiricism against Max Scheler's non-naturalistic phenomenology. By drawing from Jack Reynolds's arguments for a minimal phenomenology, the author posits that radical empiricism is a middle way between the misguided self-sufficiency of transcendental phenomenology and the misguided self-sufficiency of ontological naturalism. The orthodox reading of Scheler as a dualist is found problematic, and in outlining four propositions characteristic of Scheler's positions, the author motivates resources from Jamesian thought to argue for the superiority of a naturalistic phenomenology. Focusing on a small immigrant community in contemporary England, Nadeem Aslam's Maps for Lost Lovers (2004) narrates the pain and loneliness of cultural isolation and (self-)ghettoization in a cosmopolitanised reality. In that context, Aslam explores nostalgia as a common aspect of the experience of migration, supplying the minutest details of a mingled sense of loss and longing, which translates into physical pain and traps the community in a system of values and expectations that belong in another world. Relying on twenty-first-century cosmopolitan theory and studies of the body, both physical and social, this article wishes to analyse the ailing body as a consequence of falling prey to nostalgia. Asceticism or renunciation (zuhd) is generally viewed as turning away from the world and all it has to offer in order to connect to the divine. The well-known mystical theorist, Muḥyī al-Dīn ibn 'Arabī (d. 638/1240), adds a denotation of asceticism to this conventional definition. Ibn 'Arabī argues that the impetus for the creation of the cosmos was the divine wish to be known by something other than Itself. As the fulfilment of this wish, the universe is nothing but a manifestation of the cataphatic aspect of God described as His 'most beautiful Names' (al-Asmā' al-ḥusnā) in the Qur'an, which is not God as He truly is in His apophatic essence that can never be comprehended, much less manifested. This means that there are two forms of asceticism or connecting to the divine: one is to assert God's transcendence and His true apophatic nature by renouncing the world, while the other is to emphasise His comparability by embracing the world as a manifestation of God's most beautiful Names. Ibn 'Arabī presents the world-renouncing form of asceticism through the chapter of Prophet Idrīs in his most popular work, Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam, and he presents the world-embracing from of asceticism through the chapter of Prophet Ilyās. After first employing the 12-tone serialism, Anatol Vieru turned to folklore for inspiration and then wrote works based on artificial modes. I was interested in the possible correlations between these periods of his oeuvre. More precisely, I wished to analyze Vieru’s concerti as to their use of 12-tone structures and the relations they establish with non-serial configurations. I noticed that, even if he uses the chromatic total and respects the rules of serialism only in a first stage, Vieru very much kept in contact with it, albeit by converting it from a point of departure to a destination, the direction of a route seeming to often coincide with the obtaining of the chromatic total or with an asymptotic aspiration towards it. An interesting intersection is thus created, where the modal takes over the serial while the latter will still discreetly remain woven into the former. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2022 Hannover City Library 2022 has embarked on a participatory process in several steps, which will perspectival lead to a new spatial concept for the central library. Internally, a future workshop was held to gather the know-how and wishes of the library team. Customer wishes were collected in moderated focus groups with LegoSeriousPlay and mood boards. To bring both perspectives together and prioritize suggestions, the feasible options were selected from the diversity of ideas using the how-now-wow-ciao process. Numerous studies have found support for the relationship between suicide and risky behavior. However, few studies have examined factors that may help explain the relationship between suicidal ideation (SI) and risky behavior. This preregistered study examined the relationship between SI and risky behavior and whether there is an indirect relationship through hopelessness, impulsivity, and low wish to live. These factors were selected due to their relationships with both SI and risky behavior. Participants recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk completed measures of SI, risky behavior, hopelessness, impulsivity, and wish to live. Consistent with our preregistered methods, we analyzed data from 180 participants with valid data. Indirect effects were evaluated via bootstrapping with 5000 resamples of the a path x b path product. Consistent with prior work, we found a significant positive association between SI and frequency of risky behavior (r =.49). We found significant indirect effects of SI on risky behavior through impulsivity and wish to live but not through hopelessness. SI and risky behavior are associated with each other through impulsivity and wish to live. Though future longitudinal research is needed to determine causality, this has important implications for models of suicidal thoughts and behaviors and their relationship with risky behavior. One essential albeit often neglected aspect of dreams is that we dream in images. Freud repeatedly emphasized the hallucinatory quality of dream images: the dreamer does not see the images, but experiences them. Without the experiential character of the dream, there would be no wish fulfillment, because it is the appearance of the real that the wish needs. In this way, the hallucinatory dream image is the guardian of the wish. The body image is of extraordinary importance in dreams. Through such dream images, the analyst can gain insight into their patients’ unconscious representations of their body. If the patient manages to accept these rejected ideas as their own, the dream can become a transitional object for them. Crucial to this process are the sensations that have been incorporated into the body images and become incapacitated. What remains of these dormant sensations can be aroused through analytical work. Gradually, the autoerotic cathexis of the previously rejected body images becomes possible. This deepens the patient’s capacity to be alone. The aim of Freudian analysis was to recover repressed memories, phantasies and wishes and make them conscious. This was the basic principle of analytic cure, and the means was interpretation. During the last 5–6 decades, analytic method has been supplemented by types of interventions addressing the relationship between therapist and patient. New kinds of intervention aim at adapting to the patient's developmental level and capacity to profit from interpretations. These interventions seek to establish (new) meaning, not to uncover hidden meaning. A special point concerns a combined type, where an interpretation is wrapped in an affirmative form. The authors discuss this development and focus on the concepts of containment (Bion) and affirmation (Killingmo). They are developed from different models, but in spite of this, their aims seem to be similar; to remove doubts about the experience of reality and establish new meaning, thus preparing the way for interpretation of unconscious material. Background Most primary brain tumor patients rely on family caregivers for support. Caregiving can be rewarding, but also leads to significant burden from unmet needs. We aimed to: (1) identify and characterize caregivers' unmet needs; (2) determine associations between unmet needs and wish for support; (3) evaluate acceptability of the Caregiver Needs Screen (CNS) and perceived feasibility in clinical practice. Methods Family caregivers of primary brain tumor patients were recruited from outpatient clinics and asked to complete an adapted version of the CNS consisting of 33 common issues caregivers report (item scale 0–10), and the wish for support (yes/no). Participants ranked acceptability and feasibility (item scale 0–7; higher scores being positive) of the adapted CNS. Descriptive and non-parametric correlational analyses were applied. Results Caregivers (N = 71) reported 1–33 unmet caregiving needs (M = 17.20, sd = 7.98) but did not always wish for support (range 0–28, M = 5.82, sd = 6.96). A weak correlation was found between total number of unmet needs and wish for support (r = 0.296, P =.014). Most distressing items were patients' changes in memory/concentration (M = 5.75, sd = 3.29), patients' fatigue (M = 5.58, sd = 3.43), and signs of disease progression (M = 5.23, sd = 3.15).Caregivers most often wished support with recognizing disease progression (N = 24), and least often with managing spiritual issues (N = 0). Caregivers evaluated acceptability and feasibility of the CNS tool positively (mean scores ranged 4.2–6.2). Conclusions Family caregivers experience distress resulting from many neuro-oncology specific needs, but this is not directly related to wish for support. In this article, we wish to clarify the way of being and appearing of ambiences. First of all, by distinguishing them on the one hand from lived experiences and on the other hand from external things; then by making the hypothesis of a third mode of being which comes from what stands between the subjects and the objects and which belongs neither to the one nor to the other. Finally, our proposal aims at showing that if the atmospheres are properties of the situations even before the subjects feel them, they feel them anyway only as these intrinsic and presubjective properties. The ability of Indiana tribes to resist removal, compel Euro-Americans to their terms, and maintain a land base was best exemplified by the Miamis in the years after the War of 1812 to 1826. Rather than become victims of dispossession, the Miamis reconstructed an identity riven by intratribal divisions that both ignited conflict between Euro-Americans and Indians and brought destruction to the Miami homeland. The Miamis used the memory of their divisions to regain political cohesion under the autonomous leadership of Jean Baptiste Richardville. In the process, they confronted the threat of Indian removal by using strategies based on their cultural customs, while also mixing these ideas with understandings of Euro-American landholding practices, racial constructions of Indians, and devices of Indigenous subjugation. Ultimately, the Miamis' efforts equipped them with resistance strategies that they utilized to conditionally prevent their displacement from their native homeland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a topos found in a range of Greek texts spanning the archaic period to the sixth century AD, a speaker links the attainment of a cherished goal to a declared desire for death. This sequence of ideas is often dismissed as formulaic or rhetorical; I argue that the topos is more varied and meaningful than such characterizations suggest. Its rationale, grounded in the archaic concept of alternation of fortune, is spelled out for a modern audience in Solon's speech to Croesus at the opening of Herodotus' Histories. • Wish to live is concurrently protective of experiencing suicidal desire. • Wish to die may drive some change in suicidal desire over time. • Suicidal ambivalence may also drive change in suicidal desire. • Wish to live and wish to die are distinct and must be considered in tandem. The internal debate hypothesis (Kovacs & Beck, 1977) suggests that those at risk for suicidal thoughts and behaviors may experience fluctuations in both the wish to live (WTL) and wish to die (WTD). Previous research has investigated this hypothesis using various cross-sectional (Goods et al., 2019 [cf. Page & Stritzke, 2020]) and longitudinal methodologies (e.g., Bryan et al., 2016). No investigations have determined the within-day temporal dynamics of WTL and WTD using ecological moment assessment (EMA), however. N = 49 undergraduate university students recruited from a research participant pool from a large southeastern university in the United States with a lifetime history of suicide ideation completed the current 10-day EMA investigation. Results demonstrated that WTL, WTD, and resulting suicidal ambivalence (i.e., relatively equal WTL/WTD ratings) demonstrated similar within-person person variability; however, WTD scores appeared to demonstrate higher average variability compared to WTL and ambivalence scores. Although state WTL and WTD were concurrently related to state suicidal desire, only WTD prospectively predicted suicidal desire when controlling for the influence of the outcome variable at the previous timepoint. Ambivalence scores also prospectively predicted suicidal desire when controlling for suicidal desire at the previous timepoint. Results support the clinical and theoretical utility of separate WTL and WTD assessment. WTD was relatively stable within this sample but may be closely related to risk for future suicidal thinking. Changes in WTL may reduce state risk for suicidal desire but could be more trait-like in nature compared to WTD. The 'religion/secular' frame should be retired as a way of characterizing contemporary northern European cultures. The concepts of 'secularity' and 'religion' are both falsifying and question begging. They invisibly and unhelpfully predetermine the conversation about who and where we are now. Further, they are terms which increasingly lack salience in these cultures. If we seek to locate and articulate, in order to reflectively engage, the horizons within which contemporary northern Europeans generally live, the goods that orient people's lives, the ideas and values that move and motivate them, we need to talk not about 'religion' and the lack of it, but about the idea of the human. Within the concept of the human is nested today the sense of orientation, meaning, goodness and importance that notions of 'religion' used to express. This is the conceptual territory on which arguments about 'what really matters' are now conducted. If one wishes to have salience in contemporary culture, one needs to speak to this. This practice-led research is aimed at the creation of a garment containing the maker's wish to transfer powerful energy to the wearer. Using autoethnography as a method, this article is based on my journal. Free-hand experimenting leads to a knot which, unintentionally, conveys the impression of a bold embodiment of energy; this is then consciously developed into a dress meant to establish a strong material connection between maker and wearer. The knot sets the maker-garment-wearer relationship in an ambiguous position, that is, between the visible and the invisible. The knot's hidden folds and structure constitute a node of energy for the realization of thought, a notion paralleled by the fact that knots are frequently used in magic. As a garment maker and researcher, I have explored the materialization of intention through design and making; here, the knot is the perfect embodiment of my wish to communicate unseen energy to the visible world through the creation of an extraordinary dress. Decisions regarding the end-of-life of minor patients are amongst the most difficult areas of decision-making in pediatric health care. In this field of medicine, such decisions inevitably occur early in human life, which makes one aware of the fact that any life—young or old—cannot escape its temporal nature. Belgium and the Netherlands have adopted domestic regulations, which conditionally permit euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in minors who experience hopeless and unbearable suffering. One of these conditions states that the minor involved must be legally competent and able to express an authentic and lasting wish to die. This contribution is different from other legal texts on end-of-life decisions in modern health care. Foremost, it deals with the role time-bound components play in our views on the permissibility of such decisions with regard to minor patients. While other disciplines provide profound reflections on this issue, from a legal point of view this side has hardly been explored, let alone examined with regard to its relevance for the legal permissibility of end-of-life decisions in pediatrics. Therefore, the manuscript inquires whether there are legal lessons to be learned if we look more closely to temporality-related aspects of these end-of-life decisions, particularly in connection to a minor patient's assumable ability to choose death over an agonizing existence.
