Abstract: In this paper, a new definition of SE and CE, which is based on the hexahedron mesh and simpler than Chang’s original CE/SE method (the space–time Conservation Element and Solution Element method), is proposed and an improved CE/SE scheme is constructed. Furthermore, the improved CE/SE scheme is extended in order to solve the elastic–plastic flow problems. The hybrid particle level set method is used for tracing the interfaces of materials. Proper boundary conditions are presented in interface tracking. Two high-velocity impact problems are simulated numerically and the computational results are carefully compared with the experimental data, as well as the results from other literature and LS-DYNA software. The comparisons show that the computational scheme developed currently is clear in physical concept, easy to be implemented and high accurate and efficient for the problems considered. Abstract: In the present paper, we introduce the Euler sequence space consisting of all sequences whose Euler transforms of order r are in the space ℓ p of non-absolute type which is the BK-space including the space ℓ p and prove that the spaces and ℓ p are linearly isomorphic for 1⩽ p ⩽∞. Furthermore, we give some inclusion relations concerning the space . Finally, we determine the α-, β- and γ-duals of the space for 1⩽ p ⩽∞ and construct the basis for the space , where 1⩽ p <∞. This paper studies the shrinkage estimation for the difference between location parameters of exponential distributions when it is suspected but uncertain whether the two parameters are equal. A pre-test estimator and a shrinkage estimator after pre-test are proposed. Both the suboptimal levels of significance for the pre-test estimator in a special case and suboptimal values of shrinkage coefficients for the shrinkage estimator are obtained based on a regret function. This paper presents a new approach for solving optimal control problems for switched systems. We focus on problems In which a prespecified sequence of active subsystems is given. For such problems, we need to seek both the optimal switching instants and the optimal continuous inputs. In order to search for the optimal switching instants, the derivatives of the optimal cost with respect to the switching instants need to be known. The most. important contribution of the paper is a method which first transcribes an optimal control problem into an equivalent problem parameterized by the switching instants and then obtains the values of the derivatives based on the solution of a two point boundary value differential algebraic equation formed by the state, costate, stationarily equations, the boundary and continuity, conditions, along with their differentiations. This method is applied to general switched linear quadratic problems and an efficient method based on the solution of an initial value ordinary differential equation is developed.
