The article deals with the growing importance of consulting services to support systematic reviews and related secondary study types in scientific and public libraries. It is pointed out that librarians need formal training to be able to provide this service. A new interdisciplinary CAS program called "Systematic Review Information Specialist" is introduced. It is emphasized that systematic reviews are relevant for both scientific and public libraries and offer opportunities for cooperation. The article also addresses the professional challenges for scientific librarians posed by systematic reviews and emphasizes the role of information specialists in conducting systematic reviews. It is noted that there is a lack of certified training opportunities and that many of the required skills are currently only informally taught. The CAS program "Systematic Review Information Specialist" is a continuing education program offered by the Campus Muttenz Library of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) in collaboration with the University Library Basel Medicine. It is aimed at university graduates from all empirical disciplines, especially those from scientific libraries, universities, and research institutions who are confronted with the creation of systematic reviews. The program provides all the necessary competencies for research support and offers insights into professional everyday life, reflection on practice, and strategies for anchoring consulting services. It is the first offering of its kind in the German-speaking region and consists of 10 ECTS with a total of 7 modules. Participants acquire knowledge about the professional profile of an information specialist, the methodological process of conducting systematic reviews, and specific guidelines and tools. They can independently conduct, document, and advise researchers on systematic literature searches. Community building is an important concern of the CAS program, where participants can stay in contact during and after the program through a web-based instant messaging service. On the website, graduates of the CAS "Materials for Information Specialists" are compiled for free reuse. Public libraries are also interested in research support and see themselves as partners for research-related services such as open science, publication advice, or citizen science. Systematic reviews are also relevant for public libraries as they have a connection to citizen science and public libraries can serve as a point of contact for CS projects. Public libraries should consider supporting systematic reviews as the tools for this are largely available. Systematic reviews are also interesting when public libraries themselves are the subject of research in library and information science. Conducting secondary studies enables decision-makers in public and scientific libraries to take empirically based measures to further develop their institutions. While scientific libraries are increasingly building expertise, public libraries are still at the beginning in this area. The implementation of evidence-based practice is of great importance for scientific and public libraries. They use research methods such as systematic review and meta-analysis to provide qualitative and quantitative evidence. By collaborating with scientific libraries, they can connect ambitious citizen scientists with researchers at universities and colleges. Supporting systematic reviews through systematic literature research could be an innovative partnership between scientific and public libraries. Der Beitrag diskutiert die beiden Verbundkataloge Argentiniens, UNIRED 30A und den Konkurrenzkatalog SIUBDU. Der UNIRED 30A integriert die Bibliotheksbestände von 109 Institutionen, darunter den wichtigsten Regierungsinstitutionen, Ministerialbibliotheken, Think-Tanks, Universitäten des Landes, Banken, Institutionen der lateinamerikanischen Wissenschaftsintegration wie FLACSO, CLACSO, INTAL und die Fundación Bariloche. Der SIUBDU integriert die Bestände von 56 Institutionen, darunter CLACSO und FLACSO und führende Universitäten des Landes aus allen Regionen. Um die Katalogentwicklung der in den beiden Bibliotheksverbunden integrierten wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken zu testen, analysierte der Autor die Präsenz der Gewinner*innen des Skytte-Preises der internationalen Politikwissenschaft für die Jahre 2021, 2022 und 2023 in diesen Verbundkatalogen. Die Analyse zeigt, dass selbst bei sehr renommierten internationalen Politikwissenschaftler*innen ihre Bibliothekspräsenz in Lateinamerika äußerst gering ist und sich im Wesentlichen vor allem auf Werke bezieht, die von Ihnen in spanischer Sprache geschrieben wurden oder übersetzt worden sind. The paper introduces Argentina's union catalogues, UNIRED 30A and the rival catalogue SIUBDU. UNIRED 30A integrates the library collections of 109 institutions, including major government institutions, ministerial libraries, thinktanks, national universities, banks, Latin American science integration institutions such as FLACSO, CLACSO, INTAL and the Fundación Bariloche. The SIUBDU integrates the collections of 56 institutions, including CLACSO and FLACSO as well as leading universities in the country. To test the catalogue development of the academic libraries integrated in the two library networks, the author analysed the presence of the Skytte Prize laureates in political science in the years 2021, 2022 and 2023 in these union catalogues. Findings show that even for prestigious international political scientists, library presence in Latin America is extremely poor and refers chiefly to work written by them in Spanish or works translated into Spanish. Mit Blick auf das Jahr 2040 stellt der Beitrag die Auswirkungen der künstlichen Intelligenz (KI) auf die Bibliotheken dar. Mit der zunehmenden Fähigkeit von Algorithmen, Texte zu generieren, könnten Maschinen in der Lage sein, ganze Bibliotheken zu lesen und auf individuelle Bedürfnisse zugeschnittene Fragen in natürlicher Sprache zu beantworten. Dies könnte dazu führen, dass Informationskompetenz und der Rückgriff auf (veraltete) Bücher für die Nutzer gleichermaßen verzichtbar wird. Dieses Szenario stellt jedoch eine dystopische Zukunft für die institutionelle Informationsversorgung durch Bibliotheken dar; es wird davor gewarnt, zu pessimistisch zu sein. Vielmehr muss festgestellt werden, dass frühere Prognosen über die Auswirkungen der Technologie auf die Bibliotheken falsch waren. Dementsprechend sollte die Zukunft der Bibliotheken nicht in einem aussichtslosen Kampf gegen digitale Trends gesehen werden. Stattdessen sollten sich Bibliotheken an das sich verändernde Umfeld anpassen, indem sie ihre Rolle als Lern- und Wissensinstitutionen neu definieren, die Differenzierungswirkung der digitalen Transformation in den Blick nehmen und sich die Frage stellen, wie das Analoge sich im digitalen Umfeld verändert bzw. wie eine sachgerechte institutionelle Antwort auf diese Veränderung aussehen kann. Looking ahead to 2040, the paper outlines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on libraries. As algorithms become more capable of generating text, machines could be able to read entire libraries and answer questions tailored to individual needs in natural language. This could make information literacy and reliance on (outdated) books less important for users. However, this scenario represents a dystopian future for institutional information provision by libraries; it is important not to be too pessimistic. Rather, it should be noted that previous predictions about the impact of technology on libraries have been wrong. Accordingly, the future of libraries should not be seen as a hopeless battle against digital trends. Instead, libraries should adapt to the changing environment by redefining their role as institutions of learning and knowledge, looking at the differentiating effects of digital transformation, and asking themselves how the analogue is changing in the digital environment, or what an appropriate institutional response to this change might look like. Der Aufsatz skizziert grob die Entwicklung der Spartentrennung zwischen Öffentlichen und wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert Er beschreibt die strukturelle Konvergenz der Sparten ab Mitte der 1960er Jahre. Auf der Basis einer Diskursstrukturanalyse lässt sich feststellen, dass sich seit Mitte der 2000er Jahre der Abstand zwischen den Sparten wieder vergrößert. Es wird vorgeschlagen, die Unterschiede zwischen den Sparten unter dem Paradigma der Diversität umzuwerten und dann auf der Basis der Diskursanalyse nach Themen gesucht, die die Sparten im Dialog verbinden können. The paper illustrates how the relationship between the sectors of public and academic libraries in Germany developed in the 20th and 21st centuries. Following an initial period of strict separation in almost all respects and institutional structures, the two library sectors had started to gradually converge in the mid-1960s. On the institutional level, this process seemed to have come to an end by the year 2000, but quantitative discourse analyses show that the communication gap between the two library segments has been widening yet again since the mid-2000s. We propose a change in paradigm to capture the fact that the differences are indicators for an ever-expanding and more differentiated field. Discourse analysis will be used to identify topics and subjects that could serve as either 'boundary objects' or 'translatable objects' in the dialogue between the different library sectors. Johann Valentin Meder (1649-1719), born in Wasungen near Meiningen in Thuringia, ranks among the most important figures in the music history of the Eastern Baltic area. During his life he must have composed a large number of works, of which only few have survived. Moreover, in view of his activities in numerous different places in Thuringia, Northern Germany, Sweden and Baltics, Meder must surely have become familiar with a wide variety of compositions and styles, though concrete evidence of this is lacking. This paper attempts to reconstruct Meder's music collection, including both his own works and those of other composers. In the Düben Collection of the Uppsala University Library, several copies of works by other composers are now known to be in Meder's hand, including a psalm setting by Georg Ludwig Agricola and a sonata by Alessandro Melani. An examination of the estate of the Riga cantor Johann Michael Telemann, which is preserved in the Berlin State Library (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin), reveals that Telemann used many old music manuscripts as scrap paper, writing additional parts for his performances on the blank pages. A careful analysis of these fragments has brought to light both shorter and longer fragments of over 50 compositions by Meder, significantly broadening our picture of the composer's time in Riga. A lot of what we read today in the media about coronavirus waves, school closings, and soon available vaccines reminds of the influenza pandemic 1918-1920. An essential difference is the electronic infrastructure that allows us to supply users with online library services. This paper illustrates how the library of the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland managed to compensate the sudden decrease of physical borrowing with already available digital tools (Alma-Summon, Microsoft Teams), and new ones like LibAnswers. Even in the current situation, students of library science must gain professional experience in libraries under often difficult conditions. Libraries, in turn, should not lose the important input and new ideas that interns can provide because of the increased security measures. Many students choose to complete a part of their compulsory internship in the department of Repository Management PHAIDRA-Services of the University of Vienna every year. To continue this tradition during the crisis, a new concept for online internships was developed in the summer of 2020. The first group of four students from the Humboldt University of Berlin completed a four-week remote internship in October-November 2020. The paper discusses the concept for the virtual internship, as well as the feedback from both colleagues and interns. Since May 2013, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German research community) supports pilot projects dealing with the digitalization of historic newspapers at four libraries in Germany, one of them the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Bremen (State and university library Bremen). At the same time, the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB, journal data bank) is extended and the DFG viewers for newspapers are adapted. The participating libraries not only enlarge the number of digitalized newspapers significantly, but work out standards of newspaper digitalization which will also be relevant for future digitalization projects. The SuUB Bremen's pilot project aims at digitalizing all German-language newspapers of the 17th century which are more completely availiable here than anywhere else. The newspapers are presented on the digital collections portal of the SuUB Bremen (http://brema.suub.uni-bremen.de/) based on the software Visual Library. This paper represents newspaper digitalization in the context of the DFG's current support policy. Apart from emphasizing the standard and structure forming aims of the pilot projects, the specific orientation and the peculiarities of the Bremen project are the subject of the following report. In this paper a user study for two libraries of the University of Graz, namely the main library and the Law and Social and Economic Sciences Library, is presented. In detail, user structure, user behavior, and user satisfaction are evaluated by interviewing 276 library users. Despite its good standing the university library of Wildau decided last year, to develop a strategic and viable concept to face future challenges and uncertainties. The concept will cover the period up until the year 2020. It is supposed to provide transparency by informing the decision-makers of the university about planned objectives, goals and milestones. Besides, the support of stakeholders is to be won by providing them with a written strategy paper. The work on the Agenda 2020 started with an event outside the campus and library. As an unusual but inspiring place to retreat the library team chose a sailing boat. A cruise during Pentecost 2013 announced the launch of the Agenda 2020. This paper presents selected results of two online surveys conducted at academic libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia in August and September 2012. The focus of the survey conducted among the library directors was on the significance of imparting information literacy with regard to the strategic development of the respective library's profile. Additionally, academic library educators were asked about specific practical needs and desiderata. The results of both surveys provide starting points for a greater focus on information literacy in the library training, especially concerning the didactic skills of future librarians. Furthermore, the results give impetus to specific issues of library continuing education and training. In this paper we analyze the opening hours of 50 randomly selected university libraries (UL) in Austria, Germany, Canada and the USA. The aim of this analysis is to identify possible influences on the extent of the opening hours. Potential influencing factors that we consider are library size and country (state) or linguistic area in which a library is located. This article reports on a symposium of the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries for long-term availability of royalty-bearing digital content (i.e. licensed content) and summarises the papers presented at the symposium and the discussion phases between the lectures. Starting from a statement on the reasons of the consortium to deal with issues of long-term availability of royalty-bearing content (looking for a technical and organisational solution to ensure post-cancellation-access to various electronic journals for the consortium member libraries) the state of digital preservation activities in some European countries is outlined (Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, France, Italy, Great Britain). The two long-term-preservation projects LOCKSS and Portico are described in terms of their concepts, their organisational structures and their modes of operation. Advantages and disadvantages of both projects are shown through their comparison. The implementation of a LOCKSS test-installation at the Library of ETH Zurich is briefly outlined and the perspective of a major academic publishing house (Springer) on the issue of digital preservation is reported. Teaching information literacy is one of the main tasks of subject librarians at University of Tartu Library. The paper discusses the models of teaching information literacy at University of Tartu. The library developed a general e-learning course „Fundamentals of information literacy", which is offered at the university as an optional subject. Subject librarians offer discipline-specific online courses which are taught as a part of some subjects and are compulsory for students. The paper describes the stations of a study tour to selected US American libraries which give particular attention to their special collections and whose special collections contribute to their distinctive image. Of particular interest was the question of what German libraries can learn with regard to practice and strategy related to their special collections. The authors visited among other libraries the New York Public Library, the Pierpont Morgan Library, the Yale University Library with the Beinecke Library and the Harvard College Library with the Houghton Library. For planning library conservation measures like mass deacidification, microfilming or digitalisation in acidic book collections, it is nessessary to carry out a damage survey first. This survey should, on the one hand, make it possible to assess the extent of the damage and the suitability of the books for certain kinds of preservation, and on the other hand give direct access to the individual damaged book. With the Göttingen State and University Library as an example, it will be examined if and how a damage survey could be carried out in principle. For this a model is outlined as to how such a damage survey could be carried out. It is discussed if an item-by-item survey or a sample is more suitable, and a damage questionnaire is presented. Furthermore, the paper indicates how the questionnaire can be transformed into a database. Finally the possible course of the survey including preparations and evaluations is outlined.
