El presente volumen reúne los trabajos del Grupo Latinoamericano de Estudios Subalternos, del Grupo Surasiático de Estudios Subalternos, y de algunos investigadores identificados con el subalternismo. El título contiene todos los temas del volumen. La convergencia de tiempos se refiere a la relación entre dos grupos con intereses afines localizados en dos continentes diferentes, Asia y Latinoamerica. Los trabajos estan organizados en tres secciones: una explica qué son los estudios subalternos; otra, cómo se realizan estos estudios dentros de los contextos latinoamericanos y una tercera se refiere al estado, la cultura y la subalternidad. La primera sección discute conceptos de subalternidad y del significado presente de los estudios subalternos; la segunda problematiza los traslados de teorías, o lo que se ha llamado “teorías viajeras” de un lugar geográfico a otro y la tercera reúne trabajos de campo en los cuales la subalternidad sirve de marco general desde el cual se reexaminan el estado y la cultura. Luisa Valenzuela's oeuvre is marked by a fixation with marginal characters, those often rendered invisible by society and outside hegemony: the subaltern. Valenzuela's El Mañana captures echoes of the past, aggravated in a globalized world, takes them apart and reassembles them, to then project them into the future. With a clearly dystopian intention, Valenzuela's novel reveals how instances of subjugation under despotism may be re-enacted by following a pattern of forgetting and repeating. This book examines the novel's main fictional characters, who propel the reader to an Argentinean distant and recent past, present and future, challenging and dismantling their founding beliefs, and finally reformulating them from below. The novel is shown to present a decolonial version of the dystopian genre in which a new configuration of power projects the perils of gender, class and patriarchal oppression onto the future, along the lines of coloniality. Ultimately, by addressing themes relevant to the fields of literary fiction, criticism and theory as well as decolonial and postcolonial studies, this book maps out the development of subalternity by performing a situated reading of a major work of Argentinean literature.

Dentro de la literatura comparada, la nueva novela cultivada por los llamados «noventayochistas» en España ha sido prácticamente excluida del canon del modernismo europeo, pues los intereses de esos escritores españoles se consideraban muy distintos a los de los escritores europeos. Este ensayo muestra lo cuestionable de tal perspectiva, y apuesta por la inserción de los principales novelistas españoles de la época modernista (aproximadamente 1890–1940) en la lista de honor del modernismo narrativo. Tras explicar el contexto filosófico, cultural, y literario, el autor estudia de forma sucinta y accesible una veintena de obras españolas de diez autores distintos y las compara con otras tantas de reconocidos novelistas que escribieron en alemcompara con otras tantas de reconocidos novelistas que escribieron en alemán, francés, inglés, e italiano. El cuadro se completa con la mención de muchas otras obras relevantes, todo ello ordenado bajo distintos epígrafes como la razón, la personalidad, el tiempo, la sensibilidad y la lengua. Drawing on the long and varied history of discourses of cultural hybridity across the caribbean, this book explores the rich and fraught cultural crossings that are often theorized homogeneously in postcolonial studies as'hybridity'. What is the relationship of cultural hybridity to social equality? Why have some forms of hybridity been enshrined in the caribbean imagination and others disavowed? What is the appeal of cultural hybridity to nationalist and post-nationalist projects alike? What can we learn from the hybridization of Afro-caribbean and Indo-caribbean cultures set in motion by slavery and indentureship?
