The two-volume set IFIP AICT 363 and 364 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Engineering Applications of Neural Networks, EANN 2011, and the 7th IFIP WG 12.5 International Conference, AIAI 2011, held jointly in Corfu, Greece, in September 2011. The 52 revised full papers and 28 revised short papers presented together with 31 workshop papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 150 submissions. The 2009 International Conference on High-Performance Networking, Computing and Communication Systems and the 2009 International Conference on Theoretical and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science (ICHCC -ICTMF 2009) were held during December 13–14, 2009, in Sanya, Hainan Island, China. ICHCC -ICTMF 2009 was a comprehensive conference focused on the various aspects of advances in high-performance networking, computing, communication systems and mathematical foundations. The conferences provided a chance for academic and industry profe- ionals to discuss recent progress in the area of high-performance networking, com- ting, communication systems and mathematical foundations. The conferences were co-sponsored by the Intelligent Information Technology Application Research Association, Hong Kong and Wuhan Institute of Technology, China. The goal was to bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of this area. We received 60 submissions. Every paper was reviewed by three Program C- mittee members, and 15 were selected as regular papers for ICHCC -ICTMF 2009, representing a 25% acceptance rate for regular papers. The participants of the conference had the chance to hear from renowned keynote speakers Jun Wang from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Chin-Chen Chang from Feng Chia University, Taiwan. The IDEAL conference has become a unique, established and broad interdisciplinary forum for experts, researchers and practitioners in many fields to interact with each other and with leading academics and industries in the areas of machine learning, information processing, data mining, knowledge management, bio-informatics, neu- informatics, bio-inspired models, agents and distributed systems, and hybrid systems. This volume contains the papers presented at the 11th International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning (IDEAL 2010), which was held September 1–3, 2010 in the University of the West of Scotland, on its Paisley campus, 15 kilometres from the city of Glasgow, Scotland. All submissions were strictly pe- reviewed by the Programme Committee and only the papers judged with sufficient quality and novelty were accepted and included in the proceedings. The IDEAL conferences continue to evolve and this year's conference was no exc- tion. The conference papers cover a wide variety of topics which can be classified by technique, aim or application. The techniques include evolutionary algorithms, artificial neural networks, association rules, probabilistic modelling, agent modelling, particle swarm optimization and kernel methods. The aims include regression, classification, clustering and generic data mining. This book and its companion volume, LNCS vols. 6145 and 6146, constitute the proceedings of the International Conference on Swarm Intelligence (ICSI 2010) held in Beijing, the capital of China, during June 12-15, 2010. ICSI 2010 was the?rst gathering in the world for researchers working on all aspects of swarm intelligence, and providedan academic forum for the participants to disseminate theirnewresearch?ndingsanddiscussemergingareasofresearch.Italsocreated a stimulating environment for the participants to interact and exchange inf- mation on future challenges and opportunities of swarm intelligence research. ICSI 2010 received 394 submissions from about 1241 authors in 22 countries and regions (Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Jordan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan, South Africa, Chinese Taiwan, UK, USA, Vietnam) across six continents (Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and Oceania). Each submission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. Based on rigorous reviews by the Program Committee members and reviewers, 185 high-quality papers were selected for publication in the proceedings with the acceptance rate of 46.9%. The papers are organized in 25 cohesive sections covering all major topics of swarm intelligence research and development.

The 8th issue of the Transactions on Computational Science has been divided into two parts. Part I, prepared by Guest Editors Nadia Nedjah, Abdelhamid Bouchachia, and Luiza de Macedo Mourelle, consists of 5 detailed papers, presenting state-of-the-art research results on adaptive models for evolutionary computation and their application in various dynamic environments. The 6 papers in Part II take an in-depth look at selected computational science research in the areas of geometric computing, Euclidean distance transform, distributed systems, segmentation, visualization of monotone data, and data interpolation.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the SPEC Benchmark Workshop 2009 held in Austin, Texas, USA on January 25th, 2009. The 9 papers presented were carefully selected and reviewed for inclusion in the book. The result is a collection of high-quality papers discussing current issues in the area of benchmarking research and technology. The topics covered are: benchmark suites, CPU benchmarking, power/thermal benchmarking, and modeling and sampling techniques.

The International Conference on E-commerce and Web Technologies (EC-Web) is a mature and well-established forum for researchers working in the area of electronic commerce and web technologies. These are the proceedings of the ninth conference in the series, which, like previous EC-Web conferences, was co-located with DEXA, the International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications, which, this year, took place in Turin, Italy. One key feature of EC-Web is its two-fold nature: it brings together both papers proposing technological solutions for e-commerce and the World Wide Web, and papers concerning the management of e-commerce, such as web marketing, the impact of e-commerce on business processes and organizations, the analysis of case studies, as well as social aspects of e-commerce (to understand the impact of e-commerce solutions on day-to-day life and the new opportunities that these behaviors open). The technical program included 12 reviewed papers and two invited papers. Each paper was reviewed by five reviewers, in order to select only the best quality papers. The program included five sessions: “Security in E-Commerce” (with two papers), “Social Aspects of E-Commerce” (with two papers), “Business Process and EC Inf- structures” (with three papers), “Recommender Systems and E-Negotiations” (with four papers) and “Web Marketing and User Profiling” (with three papers). This book contains a collection of thoroughly revised tutorial papers based on lectures given by leading researchers at the 4th International Summer School on the Reasoning Web, held in Venice, Italy, in September 2008. The objective of the book is to provide a coherent introduction to semantic web methods and research issues with a particular focus on reasoning. The seven tutorial papers presented provide competent coverage of methods and major application areas such as social networks, semantic multimedia indexing and retrieval, bioinformatics, and semantic web services. This two volume set LNCS 5163 and LNCS 5164 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2008, held in Prague Czech Republic, in September 2008. The 200 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from more than 300 submissions. The second volume is devoted to pattern recognition and data analysis, hardware and embedded systems, computational neuroscience, connectionistic cognitive science, neuroinformatics and neural dynamics. it also contains papers from two special sessions coupling, synchronies, and firing patterns: from cognition to disease, and constructive neural networks and two workshops new trends in self-organization and optimization of artificial neural networks, and adaptive mechanisms of the perception-action cycle.

This two volume set LNCS 5163 and LNCS 5164 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2008, held in Prague Czech Republic, in September 2008. The 200 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from more than 300 submissions. The first volume contains papers on mathematical theory of neurocomputing, learning algorithms, kernel methods, statistical learning and ensemble techniques, support vector machines, reinforcement learning, evolutionary computing, hybrid systems, self-organization, control and robotics, signal and time series processing and image processing.

This volume contains the papers presented at AI 2007: The 20th Australian Joint Conference on Arti?cial Intelligence held during December 2–6, 2007 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. AI 2007 attracted 194 submissions (full papers) from 34 countries. The review process was held in two stages. In the?rst stage, the submissions were assessed for their relevance and readability by the Senior Program Committee members. Those submissions that passed the?rst stage were then reviewed by at least three Program Committee members and independent reviewers. After extensive disc- sions, the Committee decided to accept 60 regular papers (acceptance rate of 31%) and 44 short papers (acceptance rate of 22.7%). Two regular papers and four short papers were subsequently withdrawn and are not included in the proceedings. AI 2007 featured invited talks from four internationally distinguished - searchers, namely, Patrick Doherty, Norman Foo, Richard Hartley and Robert Hecht-Nielsen. They shared their insights and work with us and their contri- tions to AI 2007 were greatly appreciated. AI 2007 also featured workshops on integrating AI and data-mining, semantic biomedicine and ontology. The short papers were presented in an interactive poster session and contributed to a st- ulating conference. It was a great pleasure for us to serve as the Program Co-chairs of AI 2007.

We are proud to present the proceedings of the 11th European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries (ECDL 2007) which, following Pisa (1997), Heraklion (1998), Paris (1999), Lisbon (2000), Da- stadt (2001), Rome (2002), Trondheim (2003), Bath (2004), Vienna (2005) and Alicante (2006), took place on September 16-21, 2007 in Budapest, Hungary. Over the last 11 years, ECDL has created a strong interdisciplinary com- nity of researchers and practitioners in the?eld of digital libraries, and has formed a substantial body of scholarly publications contained in the conference proceedings. ECDL 2007 featured separate calls for paper and poster submissions, - sulting in 119 full papers and 34 posters being submitted to the conference. All papers were subject to an in-depth peer-review process; three reviews per submission were produced by a Program Committee of 69 members from 27 countries. In total 36 of 119 full paper submissions were accepted at the P- gram Committee meeting for presentation at the conference and publication in the proceedings with Springer, resulting in an acceptance rate of 30%. Also, 24 poster/demo submissions and another 15 papers from the full paper submissions wereacceptedforposterpresentationandpublicationintheproceedingsvolume.

The CRIWG workshops have been motivated by advances in computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW), and by the need for CSCW to meet the challenges of new application areas. This workshop aims at providing a forum for academic researchers and professionals to exchange their experiences and their ideas about problems and solutions related to the design, development and use of groupware applications. - searchers report their ideas, models, designs and experiences to CRIWG submitting full-paper contributions to present achieved or mature works, and shorter papers to report work in progress.

This volume contains the proceedings of the seventh International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE2007), which was held in Como (Italy) in July 2007. This volume is the first part of the two-volume proceedings of the International C- ference on Artificial Neural Networks (ICANN 2005), held on September 11–15, 2005 in Warsaw, Poland, with several accompanying workshops held on September 15, 2005 at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Toru, Poland. The ICANN conference is an annual meeting organized by the European Neural Network Society in cooperation with the International Neural Network Society, the Japanese Neural Network Society, and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. It is the premier European event covering all topics concerned with neural networks and related areas. The ICANN series of conferences was initiated in 1991 and soon became the major European gathering for experts in those fields. In 2005 the ICANN conference was organized by the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland, and the Nicolaus Copernicus Univ- sity, Toru, Poland. From over 600 papers submitted to the regular sessions and some 10 special c- ference sessions, the International Program Committee selected – after a thorough peer-review process – about 270 papers for publication. The large number of papers accepted is certainly a proof of the vitality and attractiveness of the field of artificial neural networks, but it also shows a strong interest in the ICANN conferences.

The PAKM conference series is a forum for people to share their views, to exchange ideas, to develop new insights, and to envision completely new kinds of solutions to knowledge management problems, because to succeed in the accelerating pace of the “Internet age,” organizations will be obliged to efficiently leverage their most valuable and underleveraged resource: the intellectual capital of their highly educated, skilled, and experienced employees.
