- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
The organizations across the geographical boundaries have been confronting with economically challenging and chaotic business environment. The organizational leaders are burning the midnight oil to enhance the ability of the firm to provide quality products or services to their customers at a competitive price in the marketplace - local, regional and global. The policy makers as well practitioners across the industry sectors fully believe in the management of performance and productivity as two key drivers which if leveraged properly will enhance overall organizational ability to be competitive in the global world economy. However, the management of performance and productivity in an organizational context is not an easy task as they depend upon motivated human resources who are managed through system driven HR processes wherein the organization believes in “mind-share” than “market-share”. Such a kind of HR policies and systems create an organizational climate wherein caring about employees'concerns, fostering employee engagement, involvement and retention at workplace become a normal but extremely powerful rituals played by persons in the leadership roles. Furthermore, it is also a well-established fact that the management of performance and productivity not only helps increase organizational competitiveness but also add to the economic growth of the country. It is under this backdrop that this special issue was conceptualized for the academicians, the practicing managers, the consultants and the researchers to contribute empirical as well as conceptual research papers aimed at solving pressing needs of managing performance and productivity at workplace to increase organizational competitiveness.

- Abstract
The Balanced Scorecard translates a company's vision and strategy into a coherent set of performance measures. The four perspectives of the scorecard--financial measures, customer knowledge, internal business processes, and learning and growth--offer a balance between short-term and long-term objectives, between outcomes desired and performance drivers of those outcomes, and between hard objective measures and softer, more subjective measures. In the first part, Kaplan and Norton provide the theoretical foundations for the Balanced Scorecard; in the second part, they describe the steps organizations must take to build their own Scorecards; and, finally, they discuss how the Balanced Scorecard can be used as a driver of change.

- Abstract
The management of modern companies requires full focus on planning activities and reaching expected goals, and in particular on monitoring achievements at the levels of strategy, the business model and management style. Company efficiency and effectiveness, as the key determinants of success, need systemic solutions that will help the company succeed and survive in a specific timeframe. Strategic Performance Management is becoming increasingly popular as a result. It not only monitors specific groups of indicators which is important, but also details a strategic approach to performance evaluation, which forces managers to consider all actions from the point of view of strategy implementation. Company strategy supported by business model attributes should be conducive to the growth of company value, not only in the context of the expectations of shareholders, but also other stakeholder groups. A strategic approach to the management of company high performance integrates company strategy, the business model and management style into a coherent system that is monitored in the context of the impact of this approach on the success of companies in challenging and uncertain business conditions. Taking the above conditions into account, a scientific monograph has been prepared, combining the experience of many scientific centers from many countries in the world, dealing with the subject of Strategic Performance Management: New Concepts and Contemporary Trends. The selection of this subject is no coincidence, as nowadays both management theoreticians and practitioners are looking for such systemic solutions in the area of company performance which ensure its survival and expected growth and development in particular. The monograph contains the following chapters, which aim to show the interdisciplinary character and importance of the issue of strategic performance management, compared to new management concepts and many individual approaches to this management problem. The monograph contains 28 chapters which deal with the issue of strategic performance management in various aspects, which proves the interdisciplinary nature of this management concept. The achievement of this monograph is that it shows how widely the issue of strategic performance management can be examined and in what areas it may be relevant. The editor and authors hope that the theoretical and practical aspects presented will be of interest to the readers and will be an inspiration for the development of this subject not only at the scientific level, but also for practical implementation at the company level. The book should help academics develop the issue of strategic performance management; in regards to business consultants, it can be used as a source of inspiration for practical implementations and it shows managers good practices in this area.

- Abstract
As firms struggle in the modern era to achieve financial success, many recognize that a global economy has made their task more challenging than ever before. Universal access to the latest information and the ability to duplicate technological capabilities make it difficult for firms to sustain previously existing competitive advantages. Business leaders understand that the challenges that they face require a new and much more behavioral approach to managing their companies than has been successful in the past. In this volume, we address the quest for success in a world where innovation and constant change threaten the status quo. Today's successful leaders recognize the importance of creating organizational cultures that build trust, treat employees as valued partners, and provide those employees with the resources to constantly learn. Emphasizing a value-based and behavioral approach to managing employees, many of the chapters of this book address the importance of a strategic approach that is committed to both organizational excellence and the best interests of a company's employees. Nearly eighty years ago, Chester Barnard emphasized that successful organizations both pursue a worthy purpose that benefits society and strive to satisfy the individual needs of its membership. This volume endorses the importance that successful organizations today are committed to values that inspire others, work for the best interests of the global community, and demonstrate a commitment to constant improvement. The theme of this volume is that competitive advantage can best be achieved by leaders and companies that are constantly learning, looking for more effective and efficient ways to assist customers, and those who are dedicated to innovation and the pursuit of excellence.

Additional means of control have included employment-based'welfare capitalism,'and human relations and corporate culture approaches. This book provides fresh insight into various practices of managerial control from the 1880s to the present and their effects on work organization and quality, and worker skill requirements. 30. In Search of Harmony in a Disharmonious World: Leadership Manual for Change Agents and Dreamers

- Abstract
Each one of us is, in a sense, a leader in this world, and the author encourages us to adopt a model of harmony-based leadership. In easily-digested'lessons'Prof. Srića gives fifty-two examples explaining in detail how each of us can develop internal harmony, and how to build and develop harmonious teams and organizations. Prof. Srića finds the source of today's global chaos in the lack of leadership in politics and business, and he explains why the current paradigm is exhausted. The first pages are valuable in their own right, as they present an ice-bath of cold facts that will wake up anyone who doubts that change is urgently needed. Questioning the existing value system, the author offers a new, harmonious leadership model for managers in government, politics, and both profit-based and non-profit organizations, but also for common people who want to lead a better life. By integrating knowledge, skills and values of harmonious leadership, the model provides a fresh look at the leadership challenge, encouraging people to grow themselves and everybody with whom they connect through behaviors which radiate positivism and create harmony. The model is based on the author's leadership experience, and on a variety of practices and cases he has witnessed as a politician and consultant. The model is genuinely multicultural and draws from the views from Far and Middle East, mixes them with Zen wisdom and integrates them with Western management trends, as well as with troublesome experiences from the transitional Central and Eastern Europe.

- Subjects
- Shared services (Management)
- Abstract
Organizations increasingly establish Shared Service Centers, either for transactional (administrative) or transformational (organizational change) purposes. Their popularity originates from a combination of efficiency gains and an increase in service quality, without giving up control of the organizational and technical arrangements. The belief is that shared services should maximize the advantages of centralized and decentralized delivery of business functions. The volume deals with sample questions, including: What do shared service models involve? What are the structural arrangements between shared services and the organizations? Which business processes can and/or should be shared? What are the structural differences between shared services in different business processes? This ASM volume intends to move towards more systematic research action. Five main theoretical priorities shape the content of the volume: conceptualizing shared services for different types of business processes, business strategy and shared services, shared services and performance, pluralism in organizing shared services, and governance of shared services in different types of organizations.

33. Winning Through Boundaries Innovation : Communities of Boundaries Generate Convergence

- Abstract
At present, many companies consider «knowledge» the most important element and the benchmark for maintaining an enduring competitive advantage. The process of strategically acquiring both new boundaries knowledge and convergence knowledge to generate boundaries innovation becomes an important element in acquiring dynamic organizational capability. This is essential for rapidly establishing a company's market position in new markets and technologies. This book discusses from a micro-viewpoint different strategies for companies'sustainable generation of boundaries innovation through the creation of both types of knowledge. It focuses on strategic management activities centered on innovation processes (incremental innovation and radical innovation) in a company. In the future, the knowledge convergence processes practiced by individuals, groups and organizations inside and outside the company will form the basis of dynamic innovation activities. These will continually create new boundaries knowledge and convergence knowledge, as well as the organizational capability for supporting these. The «knowledge convergence firm» this book proposes is a new corporate model that achieves sustainable boundaries knowledge by promoting creative, productive friction among people, and between and amongst communities. It does this by implementing knowledge convergence processes at diverse boundaries within and outside the company.

- Abstract
This innovative book describes the historical development of human resource management (HRM) in seventeen countries around the world. The chapters, written by national experts, describe the origin of HRM in the late 19th - early 20th century and its evolution and development as a business practice to the present day.Offering a comprehensive cross-disciplinary perspective, the chapters discuss the economic, political and social factors that shaped HRM in each country, including the role of national labor movements and labor law regimes. The authors also provide an examination of HR practices and systems within firms, starting with rudimentary hiring and compensation a century ago, progressing to personnel and industrial relations programs in the last century, and culminating in modern human resource management practices today, including strategic high-performance systems. This unique book is the first to identify the commonalities and differences in HRM both across nations and over time.A book with real international appeal, The Development of Human Resource Management Across Nations will interest researchers, students and practitioners involved with management, industrial relations, labor economics, organizational behavior and employment law.Contributors: C. 35. Governance, Regulation and Innovation : Theory and Evidence From Firms and Nations

- Abstract
This book aims to disentangle the complex relationship between innovation and its potential determinants, paying special attention to the roles of governance and regulatory frameworks, and the ways in which the latter interact with other drivers of innovation such as competition and the innovator's closeness to the technology frontier. The contributors provide theoretically grounded and empirically-rich findings indicating that governance and regulation affect innovation directly and indirectly through interaction with other drivers of innovation. The direct effects are positive in the case of governance quality and prescriptive regulations that set standards for compliance. However, the direct effects of corporate governance are not uniform and depend on the corporate governance dimension under investigation. The authors demonstrate that the direct effects are only part of the story. Both governance and regulatory standards interact with the level of competition and the distance to the technology frontier that may have complementary or offsetting effects. Overall, the findings in the book indicate that the relationship between innovation and its potential determinants is more complex and hence calls for more nuanced policy design compared to what is assumed in policy statements by national and international policy actors. This thought-provoking book will provide a stimulating read for a wide-ranging audience, including scholars and researchers in the fields of economics, industrial organization, public policy and innovation studies.Contributors: A. - Abstract
Social Entrepreneurship as a Catalyst for Social Change contains twenty chapters on the impact of social entrepreneurial ventures within a variety of cultural and national contexts. From Brazil to Croatia, from Thailand to Greenland, this book is rare in that it provides a rich landscape in which to imagine additional efforts to bring about positive social change. The case studies cover a broad range of topics with one common theme—how can we learn from what others are doing in the emerging field of social entrepreneurship? The various cases will inspire budding entrepreneurs to new heights of awareness to support the alleviation of poverty in many contexts. Part Two, Lessons from the Field: How Social Entrepreneurial Companies are Succeeding, discusses the similarities and differences that social entrepreneurial ventures and other businesses must face to be successful. Other topics covered include Entrepreneur Bootcamp for Veterans, microfinance, social entrepreneurship education, and development of a culture of social entrepreneurship. Part Three, Going from Local to Global, explores the challenges of a social enterprise as it transitions from a national venture to an international one. The relationship between social entrepreneurship and local business development in places such as Sicily is discussed through case studies. A stage theory of social venture internationalization is put forth. Research connecting social media and social entrepreneurship is used to illustrate the importance of social networks in creating positive social change. Part four, Challenges in Social Entrepreneurship, explores the challenges that social entrepreneurial ventures face. Ethics of intellectual property rights in social enterprises is a focal topic in this section. Social franchising as an approach to social entrepreneurship is illustrated.

- Abstract
Since the early 1980s, Japanese firms have massively globalized their production operations and have shown superb competitive powers in global markets. This meant, however, they had to establish their unique Japanese-style management and production system locally, taking into account different conditions in countries that had not originally nurtured their unique system. In each case, firms found ways to balance applications and adaptations, resulting in a hybridization of their management and production systems. These experiences abroad dictated changes to the traditional system-in order to retain its basic logic and competitiveness, the essentials of the system needed to be redefined. Hybrid Factories in the United States elucidates the real advantages and weaknesses of the Japanese-style management and production system (JMPS) in the United States and elsewhere in the globalized economy. To assess the success of the'hybridization'dynamics of JMPS abroad, the editor and authors developed their own'hybrid-analysis'model, which has been used successfully around and globe for decades, and has been recognized as a major research framework for elucidating the study of international transferability of management and production systems in general. In very concrete ways and attentive to regional differences, the authors'hybrid-analysis methods identify which aspects of JMPS will inevitably change and which should be sustained. Tetsuji Kawamura and his team have provided a crucial and comprehensive resource not only for anyone interested in the Japanese story, but also for those concerned about the future of American manufacturing industries, for the investigation of Japanese transplants provides an invaluable perspective of the real dimensions of major management innovations of U.S. industries.
