Internet of Things (IoT) architectures generally focus on providing consistent performance and reliable communications. The convergence of IoT, edge, fog, and cloud aims to improve the quality of service of applications, which does not typically emphasize energy efficiency. Considering energy in IoT architectures would reduce the energy impact from billions of IoT devices. The research presented in this paper proposes an optimization framework that considers energy consumption of nodes when selecting a node for processing an IoT request in edge-fog-cloud layered architecture. The IoT use cases considered in this paper include smart grid, autonomous vehicles, and eHealth. The proposed framework is evaluated using CPLEX simulations. The results provide insights into mechanisms that can be used to select nodes energy-efficiently whilst meeting the application requirements and other network constraints in multi-layered IoT architectures. This document is an editorial introducing a special issue on recent advances in motion planning and control of autonomous vehicles. Collaborative localization is a technique that utilizes the exchange of information between multiple sensors or devices to improve localization accuracy and robustness. It has a wide range of applications in autonomous driving and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In the field of UAVs, collaborative localization can help UAVs perform autonomous navigation and mission execution in complex environments. However, when GNSS is not available, it becomes challenging to position the UAV swarm relative to each other. This is because the swarm loses its perception and constraint of the position relationship between each member. Consequently, the swarm faces the problem of the serious drift of relative accuracy for an extended period. Furthermore, when the environment is faced with complex obstruction challenges or a camera with low texture scenes, noise can make it more difficult to solve the relative position relationship between drones, and a single UAV may lose positioning capability. To solve these specific problems, this paper studies a swarm co-operative localization method in a GNSS-denied environment with loud noise interference. In this paper, we proposed a method that utilizes a distributed scheme based on an incremental smoothing and mapping (iSAM) algorithm for state estimation. It incorporates new anchor-free topological constraints to prevent positioning failures and significantly improve the system's robustness. Additionally, a new switching function is applied in front of each factor of the loss function, which adjusts the switches in real time in response to the input information to improve observably the accuracy of the system. A novel co-operative incremental smoothing and mapping (CI-SAM) method is proposed and the method does not require a complete relative position measurement, which reduces the need for vehicle measurement equipment configuration. Efficient maritime search and rescue (SAR) is crucial for responding to maritime emergencies. In traditional SAR, fixed search path planning is inefficient and cannot prioritize high-probability regions, which has significant limitations. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) path planning for maritime SAR based on POS-DQN so that USVs can perform SAR tasks reasonably and efficiently. Firstly, the search region is allocated as a whole using an improved task allocation algorithm so that the task region of each USV has priority and no duplication. Secondly, this paper considers the probability of success (POS) of the search environment and proposes a POS-DQN algorithm based on deep reinforcement learning. This algorithm can adapt to the complex and changing environment of SAR. It designs a probability weight reward function and trains USV agents to obtain the optimal search path. Finally, based on the simulation results, by considering the complete coverage of obstacle avoidance and collision avoidance, the search path using this algorithm can prioritize high-probability regions and improve the efficiency of SAR. The efficient and accurate identification of traffic signs is crucial to the safety and reliability of active driving assistance and driverless vehicles. However, the accurate detection of traffic signs under extreme cases remains challenging. Aiming at the problems of missing detection and false detection in traffic sign recognition in fog traffic scenes, this paper proposes a recognition algorithm for traffic signs based on pix2pixHD+YOLOv5-T. Firstly, the defogging model is generated by training the pix2pixHD network to meet the advanced visual task. Secondly, in order to better match the defogging algorithm with the target detection algorithm, the algorithm YOLOv5-Transformer is proposed by introducing a transformer module into the backbone of YOLOv5. Finally, the defogging algorithm pix2pixHD is combined with the improved YOLOv5 detection algorithm to complete the recognition of traffic signs in foggy environments. Comparative experiments proved that the traffic sign recognition algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively reduce the impact of a foggy environment on traffic sign recognition. Compared with the YOLOv5-T and YOLOv5 algorithms in moderate fog environments, the overall improvement of this algorithm is achieved. In autonomous driving, the fusion of multiple sensors is considered essential to improve the accuracy and safety of 3D object detection. Currently, a fusion scheme combining low-cost cameras with highly robust radars can counteract the performance degradation caused by harsh environments. In this paper, we propose the IRBEVF-Q model, which mainly consists of BEV (Bird's Eye View) fusion coding module and an object decoder module.The BEV fusion coding module solves the problem of unified representation of different modal information by fusing the image and radar features through 3D spatial reference points as a medium. The query in the object decoder, as a core component, plays an important role in detection. In this paper, Heat Map-Guided Query Initialization (HGQI) and Dynamic Position Encoding (DPE) are proposed in query construction to increase the a priori information of the query. The Auxiliary Noise Query (ANQ) then helps to stabilize the matching. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed fusion model IRBEVF-Q achieves an NDS of 0.575 and a mAP of 0.476 on the nuScenes test set. Aiming at the problem that the traditional rapidly exploring random tree (RRT) algorithm only considers the global path of unmanned vehicles in a static environment, which has the limitation of not being able to avoid unknown dynamic obstacles in real time, and that the traditional dynamic window approach (DWA) algorithm is prone to fall into a local optimum during local path planning, this paper proposes a path planning method for unmanned vehicles that integrates improved RRT and DWA algorithms. The RRT algorithm is improved by introducing strategies such as target-biased random sampling, adaptive step size, and adaptive radius node screening, which enhance the efficiency and safety of path planning. The global path key points generated by the improved RRT algorithm are used as the subtarget points of the DWA algorithm, and the DWA algorithm is optimized through the design of an adaptive evaluation function weighting method based on real-time obstacle distances to achieve more reasonable local path planning. Through simulation experiments, the fusion algorithm shows promising results in a variety of typical static and dynamic mixed driving scenarios, can effectively plan a path that meets the driving requirements of an unmanned vehicle, avoids unknown dynamic obstacles, and shows higher path optimization efficiency and driving stability in complex environments, which provides strong support for an unmanned vehicle's path planning in complex environments. Appropriate traffic cooperation at intersections plays a crucial part in modern intelligent transportation systems. To enhance traffic efficiency at intersections, this paper establishes a cooperative motion optimization strategy that adjusts the trajectories of autonomous vehicles (AVs) based on risk degree. Initially, AVs are presumed to select any exit lanes, thereby optimizing spatial resources. Trajectories are generated for each possible lane. Subsequently, a motion optimization algorithm predicated on risk degree is introduced, which takes into account the trajectories and motion states of AVs. The risk degree serves to prevent collisions between conflicting AVs. A cooperative motion optimization strategy is then formulated, incorporating car-following behavior, traffic signals, and conflict resolution as constraints. Specifically, the movement of all vehicles at the intersection is modified to achieve safer and more efficient traffic flow. The strategy is validated through a simulation using SUMO. The results indicate a 20.51% and 11.59% improvement in traffic efficiency in two typical scenarios when compared to a First-Come-First-Serve approach. The purpose of the self-driving car is to minimize the number casualties of traffic accidents. One of the effects of traffic accidents is an improper speed of a car, especially at the road turn. If we can make the anticipation of the road turn, it is possible to avoid traffic accidents. This paper presents a cutting edge curve lane detection algorithm based on the Kalman filter for the self-driving car. It uses parabola equation and circle equation models inside the Kalman filter to estimate parameters of a using curve lane. The proposed algorithm was tested with a self-driving vehicle. Experiment results show that the curve lane detection algorithm has a high success rate. The paper also presents simulation results of the autonomous vehicle with the feature to control steering and speed using the results of the full curve lane detection algorithm. This paper presents a scientometric and bibliometric literature review of the research on transitions to autonomous and electric vehicles. We discuss the main characteristics, evolution, and various transitional issues, identifying potential trends for future research. The Scopus and WoS search for relevant research articles generated a corpus of 4693 articles, which we analyzed using VOSviewer visualization software. This result shows that the transition research is interdisciplinary, with 54 scientific areas identified. Analysis requires an understanding of the broader aspects of the automotive industry, trends related to sustainability, environment protection, road safety, public policies, market factors and other business, and legal and management issues. This study highlights the need for more research to address the challenges of this global transition in the automotive industry. Topics for future research are constant improvements in AI algorithms used in AVs, innovations in green energy sources, and storage solutions for EVs. This is leading to new innovative business models and platforms. Further to that, the conclusion is that the impact of the transition to a shared economy, the emergency of mobility as a service, and public acceptance of the technology have to be comprehensively considered. These methodologies, including notable ones like YOLO and SSD for one-stage detection and Faster R-CNN for two-stage detection, are critically analyzed for their efficacy in identifying various road damages under diverse conditions. The review provides insights into their comparative advantages, balancing between real-time processing and accuracy in damage localization. For road surface classification, the paper investigates the classification techniques based on both environmental conditions and material road composition. Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), as a member of the unmanned intelligent ocean vehicle group, can replace human beings to complete dangerous tasks in the ocean. It is of great significance to apply reinforcement learning (RL) to AUVs to realize intelligent control. This paper proposes an AUV obstacle avoidance framework based on event-triggered reinforcement learning. Firstly, an environment perception model is designed to judge the relative position relationship between the AUV and all unknown obstacles and known targets. Secondly, considering that the detection range of AUVs is limited, and the proposed method needs to deal with unknown static obstacles and unknown dynamic obstacles at the same time, two different event-triggered mechanisms are designed. Soft actor–critic (SAC) with a non-policy sampling method is used. Then, improved reinforcement learning and the event-triggered mechanism are combined in this paper. Finally, a simulation experiment of the obstacle avoidance task is carried out on the Gazebo simulation platform. Results show that the proposed method can obtain higher rewards and complete tasks successfully. At the same time, the trajectory and the distance between each obstacle confirm that the AUV can reach the target well while maintaining a safe distance from static and dynamic obstacles. The deployment of intelligent transportation is still in its early stages and there are many challenges that need to be addressed before it can be widely adopted. Autonomous vehicles are a class of intelligent transportation that is rapidly developing, and they are being deployed in selected cities. A combination of advanced sensors, machine learning algorithms, and artificial intelligence are being used in these vehicles to perceive their environment, navigate, and make the right decisions. These vehicles leverage extensive data sourced from various sensors and computers integrated into the vehicle. Hence, massive computational power is required to process the information from various built-in sensors in milliseconds to make the right decision. The power required by the sensors and the use of additional computational power increases the energy consumption, and, hence, could reduce the range of the autonomous electric vehicle relative to a standard electric car and lead to additional emissions. A number of review papers have highlighted the environmental benefits of autonomous vehicles, focusing on aspects like optimized driving, improved route selection, fewer stops, and platooning. However, these reviews often overlook the significant energy demands of the hardware systems—such as sensors, computers, and cameras—necessary for full autonomy, which can decrease the driving range of electric autonomous vehicles. Additionally, previous studies have not thoroughly examined the data processing requirements in these vehicles. Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) dedicated lanes can spatially eliminate the disturbance from Human-Driven Vehicles (HDVs) and increase the probability of vehicle cooperative platooning, thereby enhancing road capacity. However, when the penetration rate of CAVs is low, CAV dedicated lanes may lead to a waste of road resources. This paper proposes a cooperative lane-changing control method for multiple vehicles considering Dynamic Intelligent Connected (DIC) dedicated lanes. Initially, inspired by the study of dedicated bus lanes, the paper elucidates the traffic regulations for DIC dedicated lanes, and two decision-making approaches are presented based on the type of lane-change vehicle and the target lane: CAV autonomous cooperative lane change and HDV mandatory cooperative lane change. Subsequently, considering constraints such as acceleration, speed, and safe headway, cooperative lane-change control models are proposed with the goal of minimizing the weighted sum of vehicle acceleration and lane-change duration. The proposed model is solved by the TOPSIS multi-objective optimization algorithm. Finally, the effectiveness and advancement of the proposed cooperative lane-changing method are validated through simulation using the SUMO software (Version 1.19.0). Simulation results demonstrate that compared to traditional lane-changing models, the autonomous cooperative lane-changing model for CAVs significantly improves the success rate of lane changing, reduces lane-changing time, and causes less speed disturbance to surrounding vehicles. The mandatory cooperative lane-changing model for HDVs results in shorter travel times and higher lane-changing success rates, especially under high traffic demand. This paper focuses on the obstacle avoidance trajectory planning problem for autonomous vehicles on structured roads. The objective is to design a trajectory planning algorithm that can ensure vehicle safety and comfort and satisfy the rationality of traffic regulations. This paper proposes a path and speed decoupled planning method for non-split vehicle trajectory planning on structured roads. Firstly, the path planning layer adopts the improved artificial potential field method. The obstacle-repulsive potential field, gravitational potential field, and fitting method of the traditional artificial potential field are improved. Secondly, the speed planning aspect is performed in the Frenet coordinate system. Speed planning is accomplished based on S-T graph construction and solving convex optimization problems. Vehicular technology has recently gained increasing popularity, and autonomous driving is a hot topic. To achieve safe and reliable intelligent transportation systems, accurate positioning technologies need to be built to factor in the different types of uncertainties such as pedestrian behavior, random objects, and types of roads and their settings. In this work, we look into the other domains and technologies required to build an autonomous vehicle and conduct a relevant literature analysis. In this work, we look into the current state of research and development in environment detection, pedestrian detection, path planning, motion control, and vehicle cybersecurity for autonomous vehicles. Aiming at the problem of insufficient tracking accuracy caused by object occlusion in the process of multi-object tracking, this paper proposes a multi-order semantic fusion pedestrian multi-object tracking network. Firstly, the feature pyramid attention module is used in the backbone network to enlarge the receptive field and obtain more abundant feature information to improve the detection accuracy of different scale objects. Secondly, a size-aware module is integrated into the pedestrian re-identification branch network to fuse semantic features from different resolutions and extract more basic pedestrian features, thereby improving the tracking accuracy. Finally, the detection head is reconstructed and the small object detection layer is fused to make the proposed network adapt to objects of different sizes. Experiments on the MOT16 and MOT17 datasets show that the multi-object tracking accuracy of the proposed network reaches 75.4% (MOT16) and 74.3% (MOT17), which effectively deals with the problem of low tracking accuracy caused by occlusion in the field of autonomous driving, and achieves good tracking results. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have emerged as a promising technology for enhancing road safety and mobility. However, designing AVs involves various critical aspects, such as software and system requirements, that must be carefully addressed. This paper investigates safety-aware approaches for AVs, focusing on the software and system requirements aspect. It reviews the existing methods based on software and system design and analyzes them according to their algorithms, parameters, evaluation criteria, and challenges. This paper also examines the state-of-the-art artificial intelligence-based techniques for AVs, as AI has been a crucial element in advancing this technology. This paper reveals that 63% of the reviewed studies use various AI methods, with deep learning being the most prevalent (34%). This paper presents the implementation of an innovative solution based on heterogeneous autonomous vehicles to tackle maritime pollution (in particular, oil spills). This solution is based on native microbial consortia with bioremediation capacity, and the adaptation of air and surface autonomous vehicles for in situ release of autochthonous microorganisms (bioaugmentation) and nutrients (biostimulation). By doing so, these systems can be applied as the first line of the response to pollution incidents from several origins that may occur inside ports, around industrial and extraction facilities, or in the open sea during transport activities in a fast, efficient, and low-cost way. The paper describes the work done in the development of a team of autonomous vehicles able to carry as payload, native organisms to naturally degrade oil spills (avoiding the introduction of additional chemical or biological additives), and the development of a multi-robot framework for efficient oil spill mitigation. Robust object detection and weather classification are essential for the safe operation of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in adverse weather conditions. While existing research often treats these tasks separately, this paper proposes a novel multi objectives model that treats weather classification and object detection as a single problem using only the AV camera sensing system. Our model offers enhanced efficiency and potential performance gains by integrating image quality assessment, Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Network (SRGAN), and a modified version of You Only Look Once (YOLO) version 5. Additionally, by leveraging the challenging Detection in Adverse Weather Nature (DAWN) dataset, which includes four types of severe weather conditions, including the often-overlooked sandy weather, we have conducted several augmentation techniques, resulting in a significant expansion of the dataset from 1027 images to 2046 images. Furthermore, we optimize the YOLO architecture for robust detection of six object classes (car, cyclist, pedestrian, motorcycle, bus, truck) across adverse weather scenarios. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, achieving a mean average precision (mAP) of 74.6%, underscoring the potential of this multi objectives model to significantly advance the perception capabilities of autonomous vehicles' cameras in challenging environments. The formation of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) stands as a paramount concern in USV formation control research. In addressing this, this paper introduces a novel formation strategy for USVs, which accounts for their arbitrary initial positions and headings. Firstly, given the random distribution of the USVs' initial positions, to enhance the efficiency of formation assembly, the point set of the USVs is matched with basic formations using the Hausdorff distance to establish the formation. Building upon this foundation and acknowledging the potential hindrance posed by the arbitrary initial headings of the USVs, which could hinder their ability to reach the designated formation target points, a cost matrix is constructed based on the designed distance–azimuth evaluation function. Subsequently, the Hungarian algorithm is utilized to efficiently assign formation target points for the USVs. Vehicle pose detection plays a vital role in modern automotive technology, which can improve driving safety, enhance vehicle stability and provide important support for the development of autonomous driving technology. The current pose estimation methods have the problems of accumulation errors, large algorithm computing power, and expensive cost, so they cannot be widely used in intelligent connected vehicles. This paper proposes a vehicle pose detection method based on an RSU (Roadside Unit). First, the on-board GPS performs the positioning of the target vehicle and transmits the positioning information to the RSU through the UDP (User Data Protocol). Next, the RSU transmits a forward command to the OBU (On-board Unit) through the UDP. The OBU sends the command to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to control the vehicle forward. Then, the RSU detects and tracks the vehicle. The RSU takes pictures of two images before and after the movement and obtains the coordinates of the four angle points and the center point by image processing. The vehicle heading direction is determined by the moving direction of the center point of the front and rear two images. Finally, the RSU captures the vehicle images in real time, performs the process of tracking, rectangular fitting and pose calculation to obtain the pose information and transmits the information to the OBU to complete the whole process of vehicle pose detection and information transmission. Experiments show that the method can realize accurate and efficient detection of vehicle pose, meet the real-time requirements of vehicle pose detection, and can be widely used in intelligent vehicles. Pathfinding for autonomous vehicles in large-scale complex terrain environments is difficult when aiming to balance efficiency and quality. To solve the problem, this paper proposes Hierarchical Path-Finding A* based on Multi-Scale Rectangle, called RHA*, which achieves efficient pathfinding and high path quality for large-scale unequal-weighted maps. Firstly, the original map grid cells were aggregated into fixed-size clusters. Then, an abstract map was constructed by aggregating equal-weighted clusters into rectangular regions of different sizes and calculating the nodes and edges of the regions in advance. Finally, real-time pathfinding was performed based on the abstract map. The experiment showed that the computation time of real-time pathfinding was reduced by 96.64% compared to A* and 20.38% compared to HPA*. To realize accurate environment perception, which is the technological key to enabling autonomous vehicles to interact with their external environments, it is primarily necessary to solve the issues of object detection and tracking in the vehicle-movement process. Multi-sensor fusion has become an essential process in efforts to overcome the shortcomings of individual sensor types and improve the efficiency and reliability of autonomous vehicles. This paper puts forward moving object detection and tracking methods based on LiDAR—camera fusion. Operating based on the calibration of the camera and LiDAR technology, this paper uses YOLO and PointPillars network models to perform object detection based on image and point cloud data. Then, a target box intersection-over-union (IoU) matching strategy, based on center-point distance probability and the improved Dempster–Shafer (D–S) theory, is used to perform class confidence fusion to obtain the final fusion detection result. In the process of moving object tracking, the DeepSORT algorithm is improved to address the issue of identity switching resulting from dynamic objects re-emerging after occlusion. An unscented Kalman filter is utilized to accurately predict the motion state of nonlinear objects, and object motion information is added to the IoU matching module to improve the matching accuracy in the data association process. Through self-collected data verification, the performances of fusion detection and tracking are judged to be significantly better than those of a single sensor. The evaluation indexes of the improved DeepSORT algorithm are 66% for MOTA and 79% for MOTP, which are, respectively, 10% and 5% higher than those of the original DeepSORT algorithm. Path planning and obstacle avoidance are fundamental problems in unmanned ground vehicle path planning. Aiming at the limitations of Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithms in unmanned ground vehicle path planning, such as low sampling rate, insufficient exploration, and unstable training, this paper proposes an improved algorithm called Dual Priority Experience and Ornstein–Uhlenbeck Soft Actor-Critic (DPEOU-SAC) based on Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (OU noise) and double-factor prioritized sampling experience replay (DPE) with the introduction of expert experience, which is used to help the agent achieve faster and better path planning and obstacle avoidance. Firstly, OU noise enhances the agent's action selection quality through temporal correlation, thereby improving the agent's detection performance in complex unknown environments. Meanwhile, the experience replay is based on double-factor preferential sampling, which has better sample continuity and sample utilization. Then, the introduced expert experience can help the agent to find the optimal path with faster training speed and avoid falling into a local optimum, thus achieving stable training. Finally, the proposed DPEOU-SAC algorithm is tested against other deep reinforcement learning algorithms in four different simulation environments. The growing relevance of sustainability, as well as the necessity to replace traditional forms of transportation with sustainable ones, has made sustainable urban mobility an imperative. In order to respond to the ever-increasing need to develop sustainable modes of transport, the importance of electric, autonomous, and electric autonomous vehicles is increasingly emphasized. In addition, as trends of growth and development in electric autonomous vehicle technology are increasing, one of the questions that has appeared is whether autonomous electric vehicles represent one of the mechanisms that will be used to increase the sustainability of urban mobility. With this in mind, the results of a systematic analysis of existing research in the WOS and Scopus databases using the keywords "urban mobility", "electric vehicles", and "autonomous vehicles" was carried out to identify research trends in the use of autonomous electric vehicles in urban areas. The research showed that authors focus on the advantages and disadvantages of autonomous electric vehicles and their usage in the urban mobility system, but an insufficient number of authors consider and define the need to plan the transition towards incorporating autonomous electric vehicles into the urban system. The results of this research also indicate an insufficient number of papers that research and describe the application of autonomous electric vehicles in distribution logistics. This paper offers a novel view for managing and controlling the movement of driverless, i.e., autonomous, vehicles by converting this movement to a simulated train movement moving on a rail track. It expands on the "virtual track" theory and creates a model for virtual track autonomous vehicle management and control based on the ideas and methods of railway train operation. The developed model and adopted algorithm allow for large-scale autonomous driving vehicle control on the highway while considering the temporal-spatial distribution of vehicles, temporal-spatial trajectory diagram optimization, and the management and control model and algorithm for autonomous vehicles, as design goals. The ultimate objective is to increase the safety of the road traffic environment when autonomous vehicles are operating in it together with human-driven vehicles and achieve more integrated and precise organization and scheduling of these vehicles in such mixed traffic conditions. Featured Application: Path Tracking Control for Autonomous Driving. This paper presents a method to design a path tracking controller with a constraint on tire slip angles under low-friction road conditions. On a low-friction road surface, a lateral tire force is easily saturated and decreases as a tire slip angle increases by a large steering angle. Under this situation, a path tracking controller cannot achieve its maximum performance. To cope with this problem, it is necessary to limit tire slip angles to a value where the maximum lateral tire force is achieved. The most commonly used controllers for path tracking, linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and model predictive control (MPC), are adopted as a controller design methodology. The control inputs of LQR and MPC are front and rear steering angles and control yaw moment, which have been widely used for path tracking. The constraint derived from tire slip angles is imposed on the steering angles of LQR and MPC. To fully verify the performance of the path tracking controller with the constraint on tire slip angles, a simulation is conducted on vehicle simulation software. From the simulation results, it is shown that the path tracking controller with the constraint on tire slip angles presented in this paper is quite effective for path tracking on low-friction road surface. With the advancement of IT technology, intelligent devices such as autonomous vehicles, unmanned equipment, and drones are rapidly evolving. Consequently, the proliferation of defense systems based on these technologies is increasing worldwide. In response, the U.S. Department of Defense is implementing the RMF (Risk Management Framework) to ensure the cybersecurity of defense systems and conducting cybersecurity T&E (test and evaluation) concurrently. However, RMF and cybersecurity T&E conducted during the acquisition phase of defense systems often result in fragmented cybersecurity assessments, excluding the operational environment of the defense systems. This omission fails to account for the complex network integration, data exchange functionalities, and mission-specific requirements in actual cyber attack scenarios. For these reasons, vulnerabilities in defense systems that remain unidentified during the acquisition phase can potentially pose significant cybersecurity threats during operational phases, necessitating substantial costs and efforts for remediation. Therefore, this paper proposes a mission-based cybersecurity T&E model using a Multi-Cyber Range to effectively apply these two systems in a practical manner. The Multi-Cyber Range integrates independently operated cyber ranges into a network to expand the evaluation environment, which better reflects the mission environment of defense systems. The proposed model's effectiveness is validated using a cyber attack simulation system targeting a virtualized arbitrary defense system. The safety of autonomous driving is closely linked to accurate depth perception. With the continuous development of autonomous driving, depth completion has become one of the crucial methods in this field. However, current depth completion methods have major shortcomings in small objects. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an end-to-end architecture with adaptive spatial feature fusion by encoder–decoder (ASFF-ED) module for depth completion. The architecture is built on the basis of the network architecture proposed in this paper, and is able to extract depth information adaptively with different weights on the specified feature map, which effectively solves the problem of insufficient depth accuracy of small objects. At the same time, this paper also proposes a depth map visualization method with a semi-quantitative visualization, which makes the depth information more intuitive to display. Compared with the currently available depth map visualization methods, this method has stronger quantitative analysis and horizontal comparison ability. Road detection technology is an important part of the automatic driving environment perception system. With the development of technology, the situations that automatic driving needs to consider will become broader and more complex. This paper contributes a lightweight convolutional neural network model, incorporating novel convolution and parallel pooling modules, an improved network activation function, and comprehensive training and verification with multiple datasets. The proposed model achieves high accuracy in detecting drivable areas in complex autonomous driving situations while significantly improving real-time performance. In addition, we collect data in the field and create small datasets as reference datasets for testing algorithms. Accurately and reliably perceiving the environment is a major challenge in autonomous driving and robotics research. Traditional vision-based methods often suffer from varying lighting conditions, occlusions, and complex environments. This paper addresses these challenges by combining a deep learning-based object detection algorithm, YOLOv8, with LiDAR data fusion technology. The principle of this combination is to merge the advantages of these technologies: YOLOv8 excels in real-time object detection and classification through RGB images, while LiDAR provides accurate distance measurement and 3D spatial information, regardless of lighting conditions. The integration aims to apply the high accuracy and robustness of YOLOv8 in identifying and classifying objects, as well as the depth data provided by LiDAR. This combination enhances the overall environmental perception, which is critical for the reliability and safety of autonomous systems. However, this fusion brings some research challenges, including data calibration between different sensors, filtering ground points from LiDAR point clouds, and managing the computational complexity of processing large datasets. This paper presents a comprehensive approach to address these challenges. Firstly, a simple algorithm is introduced to filter out ground points from LiDAR point clouds, which are essential for accurate object detection, by setting different threshold heights based on the terrain. Secondly, YOLOv8, trained on a customized dataset, is utilized for object detection in images, generating 2D bounding boxes around detected objects. Thirdly, a calibration algorithm is developed to transform 3D LiDAR coordinates to image pixel coordinates, which are vital for correlating LiDAR data with image-based object detection results. Fourthly, a method for clustering different objects based on the fused data is proposed, followed by an object tracking algorithm to compute the 3D poses of objects and their relative distances from a robot. To improve the accuracy and robustness of autonomous vehicle localization in a complex environment, this paper proposes a multi-source fusion localization method that integrates GPS, laser SLAM, and an odometer model. Firstly, fuzzy rules are constructed to accurately analyze the in-vehicle localization deviation and confidence factor to improve the initial fusion localization accuracy. Then, an odometer model for obtaining the projected localization trajectory is constructed. Considering the high accuracy of the odometer's projected trajectory within a short distance, we used the shape of the projected localization trajectory to inhibit the initial fusion localization noise and used trajectory matching to obtain an accurate localization. Finally, the Dual-LSTM network is constructed to predict the localization and build an electronic fence to guarantee the safety of the vehicle while also guaranteeing the updating of short-distance localization information of the vehicle when the above-mentioned fusion localization is unreliable. Under the limited arithmetic condition of the vehicle platform, accurate and reliable localization is realized in a complex environment. Lane-level localization is critical for autonomous vehicles (AVs). However, complex urban scenarios, particularly tunnels, pose significant challenges to AVs' localization systems. In this paper, we propose a fusion localization method that integrates multiple mass-production sensors, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs), Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), cameras, and high-definition (HD) maps. Firstly, we use a novel electronic horizon module to assess GNSS integrity and concurrently load the HD map data surrounding the AVs. This map data are then transformed into a visual space to match the corresponding lane lines captured by the on-board camera using an improved BiSeNet. Consequently, the matched HD map data are used to correct our localization algorithm, which is driven by an extended Kalman filter that integrates multiple sources of information, encompassing a GNSS, IMU, speedometer, camera, and HD maps. Our system is designed with redundancy to handle challenging city tunnel scenarios. To evaluate the proposed system, real-world experiments were conducted on a 36-kilometer city route that includes nine consecutive tunnels, totaling near 13 km and accounting for 35% of the entire route. The experimental results reveal that 99% of lateral localization errors are less than 0.29 m, and 90% of longitudinal localization errors are less than 3.25 m, ensuring reliable lane-level localization for AVs in challenging urban tunnel scenarios. The working environment of mining electric locomotives is wet and muddy coal mine roadway. Due to low friction between the wheel and rail and insufficient utilization of creep rate, there may be idling or slipping between the wheels and rails of mining electric locomotives. Therefore, it is necessary to control the creep rate within a reasonable range. In this paper, the autonomous control algorithm for mining electric locomotives based on improved ε -greedy is theoretically proven to be convergent and effective firstly. Secondly, after analyzing the contact state between the wheel and rail under wet and slippery road conditions, it is concluded that the value of creep rate is an important factor affecting the autonomous driving of mining electric locomotives. Therefore, the autonomous control method for mining electric locomotives based on creep control is proposed in this paper. This paper presents the initial steps taken in analysing the benefits of connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs), especially Modular Autonomous Vehicles (MAVs), in search of sustainable solutions for reducing energy consumption per passenger in air transport. For this particular case, a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solution is proposed, correlating airside transport with landside transport, as an urban mobility alternative. To better understand the benefits of the proposal, this paper studies the impact on energy consumption conceptual differences between a conventional public transport fleet using Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) and an MAV fleet. Simulations for simple public transport tasks are performed to highlight the advantages of the modular vehicle concept, in which routes are assigned dynamically based on the requested passenger carrying capacity and travel distance, aiming to optimize the efficiency of the entire system. With a proven reduction in energy consumption due to better use of available passenger capacity and reduced travel times in which the vehicle is driving with a number of passengers less than half of its capacity, the concept can be addressed further in developing a predictive system that processes public transport data and delivers an optimized schedule for the entire fleet. The main goal being to improve overall operational efficiency and total cost of ownership, the second part of the paper studies the impact of weight distribution on efficiency parameters such as energy consumption, range, and overall performance of an electric bus. In the realm of autonomous vehicle technology, the multimodal vehicle detection network (MVDNet) represents a significant leap forward, particularly in the challenging context of weather conditions. This paper focuses on the enhancement of MVDNet through the integration of a multi-head attention layer, aimed at refining its performance. The integrated multi-head attention layer in the MVDNet model is a pivotal modification, advancing the network's ability to process and fuse multimodal sensor information more efficiently. In order to enhance the trajectory tracking accuracy of distributed-driven intelligent vehicles, this paper formulates the tasks of torque output control for longitudinal dynamics and steering angle output control for lateral dynamics as Markov decision processes. To dissect the requirements of action output continuity for longitudinal and lateral control, this paper adopts the deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm (DDPG) for longitudinal velocity control and the deep Q-network algorithm (DQN) for lateral motion control. Multi-agent reinforcement learning methods are applied to the task of trajectory tracking in distributed-driven vehicle autonomous driving. By contrasting with two classical trajectory tracking control methods, the proposed approach in this paper is validated to exhibit superior trajectory tracking performance, ensuring that both longitudinal velocity deviation and lateral position deviation of the vehicle remain at lower levels. Compared with classical control methods, the maximum lateral position deviation is improved by up to 90.5% and the maximum longitudinal velocity deviation is improved by up to 97%. To address the shortcomings of previous autonomous decision models, which often overlook the personalized features of users, this paper proposes a personalized decision control algorithm for autonomous vehicles based on RLHF (reinforcement learning from human feedback). The algorithm combines two reinforcement learning approaches, DDPG (Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient) and PPO (proximal policy optimization), and divides the control scheme into three phases including pre-training, human evaluation, and parameter optimization. During the pre-training phase, an agent is trained using the DDPG algorithm. In the human evaluation phase, different trajectories generated by the DDPG-trained agent are scored by individuals with different styles, and the respective reward models are trained based on the trajectories. In the parameter optimization phase, the network parameters are updated using the PPO algorithm and the reward values given by the reward model to achieve personalized autonomous vehicle control. To validate the control algorithm designed in this paper, a simulation scenario was built using CARLA_0.9.13 software. Polarization imaging has achieved a wide range of applications in military and civilian fields such as camouflage detection and autonomous driving. However, when the imaging environment involves a low-light condition, the number of photons is low and the photon transmittance of the conventional Division-of-Focal-Plane (DoFP) structure is small. Therefore, the traditional demosaicing methods are often used to deal with the serious noise and distortion generated by polarization demosaicing in low-light environment. Based on the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes a model called Low-Light Sparse Polarization Demosaicing Network (LLSPD-Net) for simulating a sparse polarization sensor acquisition of polarization images in low-light environments. The model consists of two parts: an intensity image enhancement network and a Stokes vector complementation network. In this work, the intensity image enhancement network is used to enhance low-light images and obtain high-quality RGB images, while the Stokes vector is used to complement the network. We discard the traditional idea of polarization intensity image interpolation and instead design a polarization demosaicing method with Stokes vector complementation. By using the enhanced intensity image as a guide, the completion of the Stokes vector is achieved. In addition, to train our network, we collected a dataset of paired color polarization images that includes both low-light and regular-light conditions. A comparison with state-of-the-art methods on both self-constructed and publicly available datasets reveals that our model outperforms traditional low-light image enhancement demosaicing methods in both qualitative and quantitative experiments. Public transportation systems, including trams and buses, play a crucial role in urban traffic. However, these traditional modes of transport have some well-known drawbacks, such as long distances between stops, lengthy waiting times, and a lack of privacy. In response to these challenges, an innovative mobility concept called "FLAIT-train" offers potential solutions. The FLAIT-train operates on regular roads and aims to provide DOOR-2-DOOR transport, addressing the issues associated with fixed stops and offering increased accessibility and convenience. In its initial phase, the FLAIT-train operates on exclusive lanes, but it is designed to integrate with other traffic eventually. The vehicle technology of FLAIT-trains closely resembles that of battery electric autonomous vehicles. To assess whether FLAIT-trains can be used as a suitable alternative to conventional public transportation systems, this paper employs traffic simulations that consider key performance indicators, including the average waiting time per passenger, maximum waiting time of a single passenger, average in-vehicle time per passenger, and average occupancy rate of the vehicles. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) aim to improve safety and comfort of road users while contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion, air pollution, fuel consumption, and enabling mobility and accessibility of disabled and older people. As AV technology is rapidly advancing, there is an urgent need to explore how those new mobility services will impact urban transport systems, including the users, the infrastructure, and the design of future urban areas. This paper applies a systematic review to assess the role of AVs in urban areas. It reviews 41 articles published between 2003 and 2023, and uses inductive and deductive coding approaches to identify seven themes and thirty sub-themes within the literature. The seven include: benefits, attitudes, and behaviours and user perception, climate adaptation, climate mitigation, legislation and regulations, sustainability, and infrastructure. Studies related to benefits accounted for 25% of the sample, followed by behaviours and user perception (24%) and sustainability (22%). The least amount of research has been undertaken on the role of AVs to support climate adaptation. Geographically, almost half (#22) of the papers originate within Europe, followed by America (#10) and Asia (#7). There is only limited research originating from the Global South. This systematic review sets the scene for considering how AVs in public transport can be implemented in urban areas by establishing the current state of knowledge on user attitudes, perceptions, and behaviour, the benefits of AVs, the infrastructure and legislation and regulations required for AVs, and the role AVs have in climate mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability. Existing vehicle-road models used for road tracking do not take into account the side slip angle, which leads to a reduction in road tracking accuracy in scenarios where the vehicle is at a large side slip angle, such as an emergency lane change. Consequently, this study presents a path-tracking control technique based on the T-S fuzzy model of heading angle vehicle autonomy. In this paper, based on the yaw angle-based vehicle tracking model, a heading angle-based tracking model considering the side slip angle is constructed. Second, since the vehicle speed varies with time, this paper selects the membership function of the vehicle speed to establish the T-S fuzzy model of autonomous vehicle based on the yaw angle and heading angle, respectively, and ensures the robustness and stability over the whole parameter space by the linear parameter variation robust H ∞ controller. As a specific task for unmanned tracked vehicles, leader-following imposes high-precision requirements on the vehicle's motion control, especially the steering control. However, due to characteristics such as the frequent changes in off-road terrain and steering resistance coefficients, controlling tracked vehicles poses significant challenges, making it difficult to achieve stable and precise leader-following. This paper decouples the leader-following control into speed and curvature control to address such issues. It utilizes model reference adaptive control to establish reference models for the speed and curvature subsystems and designs corresponding parameter adaptive control laws. This control method enables the actual vehicle speed and curvature to effectively track the response of the reference model, thereby addressing the impact of frequent changes in the steering resistance coefficient. Furthermore, this paper demonstrates significant improvements in leader-following performance through a series of simulations and experiments. Compared with the traditional PID control method, the results shows that the maximum following distance has been reduced by at least approximately 12% (ensuring the ability to keep up with the leader), the braking distance has effectively decreased by 22% (ensuring a safe distance in an emergency braking scenario and improving energy recovery), the curvature tracking accuracy has improved by at least 11% (improving steering performance), and the speed tracking accuracy has increased by at least 3.5% (improving following performance). This paper presents a machine learning (ML)-based approach for the intelligent control of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) utilized in solar panel cleaning systems, aiming to mitigate challenges arising from uncertainties, disturbances, and dynamic environments. Solar panels, predominantly situated in dedicated lands for solar energy production (e.g., agricultural solar farms), are susceptible to dust and debris accumulation, leading to diminished energy absorption. Instead of labor-intensive manual cleaning, robotic cleaners offer a viable solution. AVs equipped to transport and precisely position these cleaning robots are indispensable for the efficient navigation among solar panel arrays. However, environmental obstacles (e.g., rough terrain), variations in solar panel installation (e.g., height disparities, different angles), and uncertainties (e.g., AV and environmental modeling) may degrade the performance of traditional controllers. In this study, a biologically inspired method based on Brain Emotional Learning (BEL) is developed to tackle the aforementioned challenges. The developed controller is implemented numerically using MATLAB-SIMULINK. The paper concludes with a comparative analysis of the AVs' performance using both PID and developed controllers across various scenarios, highlighting the efficacy and advantages of the intelligent control approach for AVs deployed in solar panel cleaning systems within agricultural solar farms. In this paper, we explore the trade-offs between public and private investment in autonomous driving technologies. Utilizing an evolutionary game model, we delve into the complex interaction mechanisms between governments and auto manufacturers, focusing on how strategic decisions impact overall outcomes. Specifically, we predict that governments may opt for strategies such as constructing and maintaining infrastructure for Roadside Infrastructure-based Vehicles (RIVs) or subsidizing high-level Autonomous Driving Vehicles (ADVs) without additional road infrastructure. Manufacturers' choices involve deciding whether to invest in RIVs or ADVs, depending on governmental policies and market conditions. Our simulation results, based on scenarios derived from existing economic data and forecasts on technology development costs, suggest that government subsidy policies need to dynamically adjust in response to manufacturers' shifting strategies and market behavior. This dynamic adjustment is crucial as it addresses the evolving economic environment and technological advancements, ensuring that subsidies effectively incentivize the desired outcomes in autonomous vehicle development. In response to the limited accuracy of current three-dimensional (3D) object detection algorithms for small objects, this paper presents a multi-sensor 3D small object detection method based on LiDAR and a camera. Firstly, the LiDAR point cloud is projected onto the image plane to obtain a depth image. Subsequently, we propose a cascaded image fusion module comprising multi-level pooling layers and multi-level convolution layers. This module extracts features from both the camera image and the depth image, addressing the issue of insufficient depth information in the image feature. Considering the non-uniform distribution characteristics of the LiDAR point cloud, we introduce a multi-scale voxel fusion module composed of three sets of VFE (voxel feature encoder) layers. This module partitions the point cloud into grids of different sizes to improve detection ability for small objects. Finally, the multi-level fused point features are associated with the corresponding scale's initial voxel features to obtain the fused multi-scale voxel features, and the final detection results are obtained based on this feature. To evaluate the effectiveness of this method, experiments are conducted on the KITTI dataset, achieving a 3D AP (average precision) of 73.81% for the hard level of cars and 48.03% for the hard level of persons. The decision-making algorithm serves as a fundamental component for advancing the level of autonomous driving. The end-to-end decision-making algorithm has a strong ability to process the original data, but it has grave uncertainty. However, other learning-based decision-making algorithms rely heavily on ideal state information and are entirely unsuitable for autonomous driving tasks in real-world scenarios with incomplete global information. Addressing this research gap, this paper proposes a stable hierarchical decision-making framework with images as the input. The first step of the framework is a model-based data encoder that converts the input image data into a fixed universal data format. Next is a state machine based on a time series Graph Convolutional Network (GCN), which is used to classify the current driving state. Finally, according to the state's classification, the corresponding rule-based algorithm is selected for action generation. Through verification, the algorithm demonstrates the ability to perform autonomous driving tasks in different traffic scenarios without relying on global network information.
