The progress of a methadone-maintenance programme set up to deal with users of opiate drugs in Auckland is described. The failure of the programme is recorded and possible reasons for this are discussed. In addition demographic data given by each user is presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It states that doctor H. C. W. Stringer had noticed that the case of the patient who suffered from rheumatic carditis suggests a diagnosis of porphyria. It mentions several diseases including elastoma intrapapillare perforans (miescher) and chronic discoid lupus erythematosus.
